Holiday Junction at Union Terminal So, taking a trip down memory lane here: Cincinnati Gas & Electric (CG&E nee Cinergy nee Duke Energy) used to have a holiday train display in the lobby of its headquarters at Fourth and Main in Downtown Cincinnati. My family went almost every year when we lived in Cincinnati in the 1980s and 1990s. The display moved to Union Terminal in the 2010s and me, chasing nostalgia and being in Cincinnati during the holiday season, my grandma and I went to see the trains. I think there’s a super easy way to justify Batman adopting his kids and turning them into vigilantes, it works weather it’s another universe or making it the origin of the main universe versions after another full on reboot.

Dick after his parents die is taken in by the Court of Owls who raise him to be the succession of The Judge, who’s the founder and leader of the CoW, which would explain why he wasn’t turned into a talon. He’s super fucked up when Bruce saves him, so Bruce decides to take him because there isn’t really that many options for a kid who saw his parents die in front of his eyes and then was raised by a supernatural cult for a bit.

Jason grew up in the streets of Gotham, it’s not that hard to come up for some reason that normal people can’t help him, make him the victim of a pro type of the Joker Venom that fucks him up but he can still be relatively normal most times.

Tim already had fucked up parents, parents who were interested in artifact. So let’s say his PoS parents left him around some supernatural artifact that mentally scared him for life and made him supernatural in some way.

I don’t need to over Damien, Duke, and Cass for obvious reasons.

Everyone now has super fucked experiences that no one is equipped to help them with, fuck even a therapist wouldn’t be enough at that point. So is it really that much a stretch to say them becoming child vigilantes who train to handle their supernatural ‘scars’ is the worst idea.

Lincoln Myers protesting on the steps of the Hall of Justice. Lincoln Myers served as Minister of the Environment & National Service in the NAR government between 1986 and 1991, having won the consituency of St Ann's East from incumbent PNM Prime Minister George Chambers. Myers began his 40-day fast outside the Hall of Justice in 1985 after the Public Accounts Enterprises Committee, of which he was a member, sought to excuse a state-owned company, PLIPDECO, from a requirement to explain $28,000 of apparent fraud because the sum was “too small.” The stand against corruption drew a growing crowd and is believed to be one of the reasons for the crushing defeat of the PNM in the 1986 election, which the NAR won 33 seats to three. We only had one professional encounter, after economist Lloyd Best rather bravely left the future of the TAPIA newspaper, the T&T Review, in my hands as editor with Lincoln Myers as manager of the operation. My ambitions for the paper were, on reflection, misplaced. The Review had a shelf-life of one month between publications, so I decided to get it on store shelves, first in book stores, as a magazine produced on newsprint. My own enthusiasm then was for bold, lengthy lifestyle stories and I did two, one with classmate and international footballer Richard Chinapoo and the other with Peter Minshall featured on the new “cover.” I folded the back of the paper in half to create a front and back for the tabloid publication, making it a size that would fit on magazine racks. The experiment and my own youthful restlessness and unwillingness to sit down in an office all day long soon put paid to any notion that Myers and I would be able to work together. I left the post, the Review reverted to cover to cover scholarship and Myers and I would never speak again. When I did this photo early in his fast, there was no need, since he did not speak during his vigil. Meanwhile... from the Hall Of Justice. Did you know that in the early 1970s, Union Terminal became the model for the home of the Justice League in the cartoon Super Friends? Artist Al Gumer drew the Hall of Justice and based his creation off of the façade of Union Terminal, earning our building a permanent place in popular culture.

Here is a picture that a friend took of a display in Cincinnati Museum Center. It has some of the herbal medicines that were popular in the late 1700s- early 1900s. All the medicines they liked to use back then were “heroic” treatments, things that produced an immediate and dramatic effect. Most of them were very spicy or very bitter. . . . Over on the left side of the cabinet i can make out Myristica (nutmeg), pulvis Jalapae (powdered jalap, which induces vomiting), caryophyllus (clove powder), cayenne pepper, lactose, and black pepper. . . . In the second column we have cubeb pepper (spicy and camphor-y, good for circulation of lymph and blood, and other bodily fluids) on the top shelf, and down at the bottom is senna, which is still a widely used laxative today. . . . Next column on the middle shelf there is some sort of dandelion based remedy, which is digestive and stimulates the liver, and i can also see a bottle of Groves’ Chill Tonic. This was a malaria remedy with quinine, back when we had malaria here. Mr. Groves made a fortune selling that (it also became a popular temperance beverage and was used to make babies fat), and he invested it in real estate development in Atlanta at first and then in Asheville NC, where he built a resort, the Grove Park Inn, and helped define the character of Asheville as a cool destination. . . . In the next column i can make out a tincture of clematis, and then on the bottom shelf what might be Humulus (hops, a sedative) and Scott’s emulsion, which is a flavored cod liver oil supplement. . . . On the counter, resting against the leech crock, is and ad for Senecio, a diuretic (among other things) and in the middle is one for Mayapple, a violent purgative and emetic. On the other end is one for baptisia, a remedy for febrile illnesses. All three are somewhat poisonous. . . I still have and occasionally use most of these in my practice. But usually in small amounts.
