tbh the main cause of shipping wars is that jackles is too good at his job. Man has convincing chemistry with most of his coworkers, so depending on which scenes you focus on, you can gather a convincing argument for your ship of choice.
like if you look just at the first three seasons, j2 have such insane chemistry you have to be blind not to notice. (case in point, even my mother, who is otherwise a normal 62-y-o was like 'well that's not a normal brother relationship'). add the lack of significant alternative options, and it's clear why the early days had so many wincest shippers. Like, duh. You see two hot guys who look at each other with adoration (and lip-licking), brain's gonna ship. Fiction isn't reality anyway.
However, then comes s4. Now, I think Misha is awesome and funny and great, and obviously he and Jensen hit it off. Enough that it shows on screen. That said, the script was still written as Kripke intended, which is that Sam and Dean are obsessed with each other.
Because it's a fact, that Kripke read Siken's Crush, and also On the Road, and wrote Sam and Dean very much under that influence. And if you read either of those, you know they're about gay lovers.
So. There's a conflict between the script (which is samdean coded), and the acting (where jenmish actually gets more and more intense with time).
And the thing is, both sides of the fandom have solid 'evidence' on why their ship is (practically) canon. And it sucks to see people actually fight and insult each other.
I am a multishipper: I have an OTP but I see the appeal of other pairings and occasionally read those too. And I wish we could all see that plurality of opinions is good. Fiction is meant to be discussed, there isn't one correct answer.
At the end of the day, we're here to have fun with this trash show (affectionate), so maybe let's do that without judging?

I think i realized part of why I love good omens so much. because not every love story happens when people are young. and not every love story is fully realized.
aziraphale and crowley are thousands of years old, and they found love. we don't know how long they were angels before the invention of time, or how long they existed before they met. and they found each other and they found love. they may have denied it for 6000 years, but they felt they had no choice. Heaven and hell would destroy them, and it simply wasn't safe. when the time comes for them to be almost fully comfortable in their relationship, they're torn apart again. but they found love and they will reunite and have their happy ending.
gabriel and beelzebub found love after millenia of leading their separate sides, sticking resolutely to the idea of the great plan. until they stopped. what if there was no armaggedon? what if you said you liked this song and now its the only thing that will play here? what if I loved you? gabriel and beelzebub cut ties with heaven and hell, and dissappear together. we don't know where they went and its likely we'll never know, but they're happy and together. it took them millenia, but they found love.
nina and maggie probably still aren't together, but I personally believe they will once nina is in a better headspace. they've both been in relationships before, nina is presently in the process of a breakup with the emotionally abusive lindsey. but they are able to enjoy each others company and maybe someday have a beautiful and healthy relationship. they're both adults who have been in relationships and broken up, and they're finding love.
as much as i love many of the storyline, sometimes it hurts to see so many stories where all these people my own age are getting in their first relationships and are suddenly together forever. they find love almost immediately and live happily ever after. we never see what happens after the first few chapters, and most of the time we don't know if they ever break up or if every character ends up living a happy life with their high school sweetheart. that storyline is so much of what these books and shows tell us, but not everything is like that. people break up and deal with toxic and abusive situations and sometimes just don't work out. most people don't end up with the first person they like. they might not even fall in love with that person. as a teenager myself, so many adults tell me that high school relationships will never last and jts easier to wait until adulthood. but if that's what they tell us, why constantly tell this narrative of perfect young love? sometimes watching this same story makes me feel like I'm falling behind when I see these characters my age being so happy and in relationships while I'm stuck alone and anxious.
good omens is a wonderfully diverse show, but one of my favorite parts is how essentially every romantic storyline takes place well into the characters lives, with lives and past relationships. people can grow and change and not be made to feel as if they have to live happily ever after with the first person they like. they take their time figuring things out. they live close but barely interacting until they are drawn together later in life. they work nearby and come together during a chaotic time and bond over the stressful situations. and they find love, no matter where they are in life, what they've been through. they find love because love isn't just something limited to teenagers.

I've always had a pretty good idea of when Haley caught feels for Nathan but I think I've finally pinpointed when Nathan caught feels for Haley (spoiler alert it's sooner than I was willing to say before).
Haley is pretty easy to read. I feel like the show canon supports the idea that she started to catch feels during that first tutor session based off of the fact that she wears the cracker jack bracelet all day. He put it on her wrist around 7 AM and during the damn night she's still wearing it. Also she was awfully squirrelly around Lucas about who she was tutoring. Yeah, she was squirrelly simply because she was tutoring Lucas' enemy but she also seemed squirrelly about the fact that she was still wearing the bracelet... making me think there was more to it. There are more indications that she caught feels around that point but I would argue that was the first and biggest indication.
Nathan on the other hand has been harder to read... given what his intentions were when he first tried to get her to be his tutor and then subsequently agreed to the date and time. But I just remembered something that Nathan said to Haley in season 8 just before she's about to give birth to their baby daughter. He's telling their love story and he says
She was tutoring him. But they both knew it was something more
Yeah, that's vague enough that he could be talking about any tutor session but it's the first real indication of when he started to catch feels. We know when he fell in love. Now i've started to believe that he started to catch feels during that first tutoring session as well. Just imagine it, she busts his balls pretty much says "You don't charm me, pull your BS on someone else" and Nathan is immediately taken with her. This girl who is so badass and secure in herself. This girl who is so smart and beautiful. Also that smile on his face after she says that to him looks so genuine. You can practically see the heart eyes jumping from his eye sockets. Imagine Haley meaning every word when she said that he didn't charm her. But then she begins to tutor him, she sees his beautiful blue eyes sparkle. She says in 1x08 how she loves his smile when he solves a problem while studying... so she's sitting across from his tall/handsome self, sees his eyes sparkle, she sees the genuine smile when he starts to understand and she thinks to herself "Holy shit, i'm in trouble." Their hearts didn't stand a chance the moment they entered each other's spheres! 💕😍

Man just started rewatching season 2 and there's so much I forgot
But the main thing is after Elle gets shot and her house declared a crime scene, when it's all over Hotch goes there himself, straight from work before he goes to see his family (he's still in his suit) and washes the blood off her walls.
Like, idk what it is about that scene that really gets to me but this man went to his coworker's house, one that still had the crime scene tape on it, just to roll up the sleeves of his nice clothes to wash the word written in her blood off the walls. Before he went to see his family.
And, I mean, Elle is FBI. I have no doubt there was someone she could have contacted to get that done for her, and well.
But Hotch decided to take the bucket and do it himself. huh.

Eric Kripke is the Alfred Hitchcock of our generation. In this essay I will outline the main types of horror they use, offer examples, and elaborate the genius of the said tropes.
It will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the man's work, that Kripke loves his ✨gore✨. Now that he's no longer restrained by CW's PG rating, he gets to go full-throttle with it in The Boys. That isn't to say that Supernatural didn't get it's fair share though - I mean, just remember the "Skin" episode in season one - that scene where the skinwalker changes his skin is pure body horror. Masterful.
Okay, Haley, so what? Some of us aren't squeamish. What's the brilliant part?
Good point, my med/bio orientated reader. That gets me to the second type of horror (and my personal kryptonite): psychological horror.
Here we get to lovecraftian themes. And I don't exactly mean Cthulhu. See, lovecraftian monsters are incomprehensible to the human mind, which generates horror through the unease of being unable to understand. Similarly, certain characters that the majority of the audience cannot identify with, can be used to the same end. Lemme illustrate this with two examples: Homelander and The Deep.
I reckon it's safe to assume most people aren't sadistic psychopaths, nor zoophiles with a penchant for sea creatures. Therefore the extreme Otherness of these two makes people uneasy, disturbing on a fundamental level. Hitchcock refined that particular horror trope by sprinkling his movies with taboo-topics of his own time, such as implied homosexuality. (*gasp* 🏳️‍🌈😆)
And here we get to the now well-known horror rule: the unseen monster is the scariest monster. More broadly, what is only implied can be more impactful than having the exact scenario shown on screen. The unsaid leaves more to the imagination (which is the most powerful tool for horror), and creates and additional dread with the element of unknown. People are unsettled by what else there might be, when elipses replace a clear answer.
Now back to Kripke, and how CW's censorship actually worked in his favor in Supernatural.
Maybe you saw this coming, but the monsters aren't the lovecraftian element. (Really, with the exception of tulpas and wendigos, none of them were even remotely scary). As I said above, Homelander and The Deep are lovecraftian because they're freaks. Unsympathetic freaks, but imagine if we took that first part away...
I shan't say it.
Just. Something something, american gothic, shit's implied and that's the point.
Haley, is this an elaborate ploy to talk about shipping? Really?
No. This is about environmental storytelling, gritty noir filter, camera angles, and just how much is left unsaid. This is about trauma, and repression, and the emotional reaction of the audience when they're left to ruminate a bit on the kind of lives the Winchesters had. It's about the missing scenes, the psychology, the implications - just -
*deep breath*
Another brilliant thing is how Kripke plays around with bathos - causing contrasting feelings in quick succession to give the audience emotional whiplash. The quips sprinkled in between the violence. The unexpected gag right before a gut-punch. It accentuates the experience for the audience. Like the way Dean's relationship with food is often played for laughs, but when you mull it over it's not hard to figure out the underlying food scarcity while growing up.
And furthermore, where did the money come from when times were tough? A myriad of angst-fics went ahead to answer that, which just proves an implication is far superior to exposition.
Then there's Hell. We don't get more than a few seconds of flashes, but think about it. Wouldn't Hell use every torture method imaginable? And what's the most psychologically damaging thing you can do to a person, especially a man?
I think you know the answer.
And that realization is the dawning psychological horror.
Finally, I'll leave you with this:

My third solo playthrough is a joja route. And idk if I could ever go back. It’s on a beach farm though and moneys kinda hard af so its extra challenging. But buying the rewards? Very convenient. Don’t come for me, pls. >> but vending machine’s cute and auto petter for sale? Deal breaker tbh. Id like to think though that the spouse (Haley) is unaware of the joja route. We’ve joined and thrived.

Oh my god!!! Jackie!!! 👏👏👏 Where are your new movies playing?! Fuck!!
The frustrating thing about being a Jackie fan is trying to find his new movies. His roles are very picky as of late
So picky that you don't know about them until his IMDb page shows them or he announces them himself
*It's very easy to find the TV shows, but the movies he plays in are nearly all indie as of right now.*
I've been told that these films will be shown at select theaters, mostly in L.A., New York, and Texas. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦 I live in Tennessee, so I can't afford to travel to these places.
I swear it's giving Björk vibes, as she doesn't have anything to do with the Western media and does things in her own country.
While I am working on new gifs from his work he has done
Finding oak thorn and the old rose of love was like digging in a needlestack for hay, for I do not own a Blu-ray, and it is indeed expensive now to own such things due to inflation. Just saying
Sorry I had to rant cus finding his films are pretty hard now. It's his choice what he chooses but fuck....

my handwriting looks the same as the teacher who taught me in third grade, but my cursive looks like the font I was so jealous of when I first read the Iliad.
I love to draw because every day after school my dad and I would sit down and draw together from the library's only how to draw book.
I go rollerblading every day because my childhood best friend taught me how, skating around her kitchen with popsicles in our hands.
I want to be a folklore and mythology historian because when I was 10 my sister chose a percy jackson book as the audio book that would play each day on our way to school.
I tie a bow around my head like an old fashioned toothache every time I open a present because my grandpa said it was good luck.
I put a small braid into my hair every day because I wanted to look like arwen from lotr when I was little.
I've found a home in a fandom because my fifth grade teacher read us a book by neil gaiman and I never stopped reading his books.
my bedroom is a mess of color and swirls because van gogh's artistry in his depression inspired me when I wanted to disappear.
I collect amber beads and string them up in my windows because thats what my grandma taught me to do.
I crochet my own clothes because thats what my mom always did for me when I was little.
how gorgeous is it to see how every bit of us is a tapestry of every person we've ever met and learned about and wanted to be.
