Things that motivate me, as an aspiring musician and a struggling student. Or maybe, The Rules.
1. It's a waste of time to be scared - in the meaning, it's a waste of time to pass up the opportunity to learn something new
2. Talent is something you make bloom
Now, you see, for me it means something quite different than for Oikawa. Cause... I'm the one with talent. For years, this quote didn't mean anything to me, but then, I looked at it from a different perspective.
It was a few days ago when it occurred to me that I'm allowed to fail. I always knew that it's okay to fail in school, at uni, at sports, but music? I'm talented, it's supposed to come naturally, I'm supposed to be perfect. But damn, music is a wide concept, isn't it? I won't be talented at all of it. I have a good ear, good voice, a talent for songwriting and I found myself a natural when it comes to the basics of music programming. But my rhythm is a bit off, my fingers are weak and I'm not talented when it comes to playing instruments. I thought it would make me sad, but all I felt was relief. Cause talent isn't something that just is, it's something you need to take care of, to work on, or you'll simply lose it. So... yeah, talent is something you make bloom. For me, it means that talent isn't enough. That talent won't mean anything if you won't work on it, won't fail, won't try again and again, hold onto things that feel way out of reach. Talent, it makes it easier to start but then, you're one your own. You're the one that makes it bloom.
3. How am I supposed to get better when I don't try new things?
4. No regrets
aka, don't regret stuff. Everything is a learning experience and you won't change the past anyway. When it comes to making decisions and it's too hard, think about what you'd regret the least.
5. "Before, I thought... if I give up music, maybe everything else in my life will get easier. What kind of half-assed thinking was that?"
Music isn't what my life is about, in contrast to Akihiko (the one saying these words). It's my greatest passion, but my career path is psychology and it won't change, I love it just as much and can find a million reasons why I shouldn't give up on it. So sometimes I think, why do I even try with music? If I don't even want to have a career, then why do I care so much about releasing it, about making it perfect? Maybe it's not worth it? But... yeah, what kind of half-assed thinking is it? It's an everyday thing for me to think that music is my everything, even if that's not entirely true. How could I give it up?
6. Don't think about what's easy. Think about what's fun.

haikyuu is incredible man…
you ever think about the fact that some people exist not to become stars but to lead others towards the light? ….
hinata was so moved by the little giant that his life found meaning the moment he came into his life (and the little giant never really ended up becoming a pro volleyball player in the first place despite his drive and talent!)
nekomata sensei’s “all we have to do is to lower the net!” shaped kuroo’s entire existence. it left such an impression on him that kuroo turned it into his goal in life: helping as many people as possible discover volleyball.
kuroo himself never going pro but becoming instead a bridge between people and volleyball (which he loves so dearly he wants to make it everyone’s business).
takeda sensei’s “He Who Would Climb a Ladder Must Begin at the Bottom” (which he says to hinata during his first year) became so meaningful to him that hinata hanged it on the wall of his bedroom in Brazil.
sugawara becoming a teacher and getting emotional when facing hinata (to whom he used to set when kageyama refused to do it) and kageyama (who quite literally took what had been his place up until the moment he came) and their growth.
you might think you will never end up doing anything great. instead, i believe you might not end up doing something grand, but whatever it is that you do in life it will always be great and you simply never know whether that one thing you said once or that one thing you once did will ever become the driving force behind someone else’s dream.

ok what about tsukishima when he finally changed his glasses?
he’s had the same type of frames since he was born, basically. those square ones that mostly old people wear now. you’ve poke fun of him about them at times, but you never really meant it. it was all good fun, right?
tsukishima doesn’t really take it as a joke, though. he thinks about it a lot. do glasses shape really matter that much? (they don’t, to you at least, but he’s he’s an over thinker. he can’t help it)
so! second year comes around, the frames are about three or four years old now. you’re at tsukishima’s place, in his room. you’re both sitting on his bed and watching a movie on his laptop after a study session and tsukishima keeps wiping his glasses on his shirt, a frustrated sigh escaping him every few minutes before he does it again.
you pause the movie, looking at him. “what’s up?”
“i think my glasses are ruined,” tsukishima spoke as he wiped on his shirt again. “i can’t clean them properly anymore.”
you take a look at the glasses being wiped on his shirt, trying to ignore the little bit of skin showing under. “don’t you damage them more when you wipe them with your shirt?”
“maybe.” tsukishima threw the glasses on the bed in frustration and rubbed his eyes, sighing. “i should go to the optician tomorrow. gotta pick new frames, too.”
you beam at that. “oh, can i come with? i can help you choose!”
of course you can. the next day you find yourself in the optic with tsukishima. he stood with his scratched glasses — he still needed them, even if they sucked; he was blind without them — looking around. it was pretty empty, just a few people browsing.
“kei, look, how about those?”
“fuck off, what is that?”
you were pointing at a pair of cat-eye shaped glasses with a cheetah print. tsukishima hoped knew it was a joke.
“i’m kidding.” relief passed through him. “but i know exactly what glasses you can pull off. let me find them.”
it didn’t take long. soon, you dragged him over to another glass case, pointing at a pair. tsukishima crinkled his nose. “thirst-trappers wear those glasses.”
“yeah! so? you’ll look hot in them, promise!”
tsukishima sighed. the glasses weren’t bad, not really. a vintage square pair. he took his prescription out and looked at it, then the glasses again. well, if you thought they looked good, then they probably did. at least he won’t be called an old man anymore.
once the glasses arrived all fixed up with his prescription, he went to pick them up by himself since you had homework to do, then he headed straight to your house. when you opened the door, tsukishima watched as your jaw visibly dropped and your eyes bulged out.
“holy shit, kei.”
maybe he would start taking advise from you from time to time.

it’s been a while since i’ve been a haikyuu fan, but i recently read the brazil and olympic arc of the manga and i love oikawa’s arc (playing pro in argentina!) so i redrew that one scene in the anime that made him relatable to a lot of fans :)
