another flavour of dbh au because i have a problem:

soap being several years into the military now, he knows the schtick with the android soldiers. they’re easier to order around, far more expendable than humans, and they’re deadly efficient. he’s wary of them, wary of the lack of human empathy, wary of putting any trust into a fancy computer that would prioritize the mission over anyone’s life, friend or foe. he doesn’t like androids, doesn’t think he could ever come around on that, but he’s left with no other choice but to accept it. he’s at least grateful the elite task force he’s invited to join promises no close work with the mindless drones.

then soap who meets the enigmatic, legendary ghost, and immediately views the man as someone to not only trust—to an extent, at first—but to also look up to. the lieutenant gets him through thick and thin, keeps him alive through betrayal and las almas, shows him more heart than soap should expect from a supposedly stone-cold killer, more heart than soap sees in most of his comrades. and somewhere along the way, not quite too sure how it happens, soap starts developing a bit of a crush on the man.

and then the mask is removed. it’s only for a brief moment, but it’s long enough for soap to catch a glimpse of the blue led embedded in ghost’s temple, indicative of an android status soap had never suspected him to have. a wave of nausea falls over soap, his head spinning as he grabs one of the spare balaclavas from the pile. of course he’d fallen for a fucking android.
