Finally saw Hadestown a month ago and I’m definitely gonna see it again when I visit London.

eurydice and persephone from a hadestown au thats been in my mind for a while, set in in the first half of 20th century mexico, and if that sounds vague its because it is. im still not sure which decade exactly, i was thinking mexican revolution first but i love the aesthetic of the golden age of mexican cinema so much
i wanted to guide myself by 'times being what they are, hard and getting harder all the time' but that could literally be all of them

Eurydice was a hungry young girl🥀
I'm so torn on the designs cuz on one hand this is how I imagine her while listening to hadestown, but on the other, hadestown generally has a more modern/industrial vibe so idk might be tweaking the designs a lot, especially of Hades and Persephone.

No one is going to write a better meet-cute than Orpheus and Eurydice from Hadestown we should all just go home.
Come home with me! Who are you? The man who's gonna marry you! I'm Orpheus. Is is always like this? (Yes.) I'm Eurydice. You're name is like a melody. A singer, is that what you are? I also play the lyre. Oh a liar and a player too! I've met too many men like you. Oh no, I'm not like that. He's not like any man you've met. Tell her what you're working on. I'm working on a song. It isn't finished yet. But when it's done and when I sing it, spring will come again Come again? When? I haven't seen a spring or fall since...I can't recall. That's what I'm working on. A song to fix what's wrong, take what's broken, make it whole. A song so beautiful, it brings the world back into tune, back into time, and all the flowers will bloom...when you become my wife.

And if I said there’s an irony in Eurydice being reincarnated as Daisy and finally having everything she wanted but Orpheus still being reincarnated as that poor boy with nothing to give her but his heart and her choosing to love him in every universe and incarnation despite that then what.
What if I said there’s a certain cruelty in her never being able to keep Orpheus and Vice Versa as he dies in the pool as Gatsby after spending his whole life trying to get her back.
What if I said the narration of hadestown by Hermes almost perfectly mimics the narration by Nick, just as a recounting of unfortunate events that could not be stopped but that we repeat and retell in hopes things could be different.
