I need, need need neeeeed to know who you would picture bar owner price with 😩 picturing bar owner price has me week in the knees. I need more, how would he be around the bar when he was there? Supporting, bossy, silly? The possibilities are endless. 🥰
I'm loving how people are requesting things for the rest of the 141!!
Bar Owner!Price isn't there every day, and most often not during the actual shift. He's there some mornings, already at his desk on the floor above the pub, setting up the next inventory order and dealing out everyone's tips before Simon climbs down from his flat on the third floor. They both grunt at each other, tired and in need of a hot breakfast and some tea.
He helps set up for the shift - he likes being in the kitchen with Soap. He feels bad the man is back there all by himself, even though he says he doesn't mind it. "I get to cuss 'n bitch all I want back 'ere, sir." Still, Price spends a majority of his time back there with him, prepping burger patties and making sure everything is stocked and ready. Gets on his case about updating the menu, but Soap insists the customers like it the way it is.
Price makes an appearance on the floor every now and then, opting to help run food or bartend on the busier nights. He checks in with the regulars, leaning his forearms on the bar with his sleeves rolled to his elbows, laughing and chatting with them and occasionally offering to refill their drinks. Simon grumbles quietly about him being in the way, but Price doesn't take it to heart.
He doesn't stay late. John isn't that old, but he likes to be back at home by a decent hour. One ruined sleep schedule and he's a shot for the rest of the week. He likes to get back to his flat, make himself a sandwich and pour himself some whiskey, and be on on his sofa and reading his book no later than ten in the evening. Routines have always been a part of his military career, and what can he say? Old habits really fo die hard.
Then you came along.
You didn't just rock Simon's world - you'd gotten Price, too. Though introductions could have been smoother (you nearly beat him with a keg when he came in through the back door and scared you), he's grown fond of you. First, as a hard worker and go-getter; then, as a pretty little waitress with a dazzling smile that likes to keep him on his toes. You love poking fun at him, calling him "bossman" or "barmaster" (doesn't make sense to him, since he's hardly behind the bar - but he finds it cute). You tease him for the way he runs your food, then gets stuck at the table for five minutes just chatting up the customers. You ask him things like, "Who do you prefer, Cardi B or Nicki Minaj?" And laugh when he just stares at you with a furrowed brow. He'll happily let you tease him for being an "old" man just to hear your laughter.
Then Simon sent that photo in the group chat, and Price felt something stir in his chest: looking at you, posing all prettily for your picture, working to push your little idea out there and bring in a crowd. He's impressed, but he's also intrigued. He's got his sights on you, and he's dying to figure out more about his waitress.
"'S the post making any headway?" He asks one night, leaning on the bar next to where you sit. Your tips are finished, money waded into the pocket of your apron as you scroll on your phone, sipping on a screwdriver.
"Kinda..." You mumble, a pout on your face, creasing the skin between your eyebrows. "People are seeing it, and there are a few likes, but no one's really engaging. Not sure if this will do well."
Price hums thoughtfully, looking at your lips while you stare at your screen. He's holding back the urge to lean in and take a whiff of your perfume, afraid it might seem just a bit too strange. "Have you tried promoting it?"
You look at him, laying your phone on the bar top. "Well... I could, but..." You wanted to finish with 'it would cost money'. But then, you'd be insinuating that you expected him to pay you. You could boost the post yourself, but you'd rather not spend money on something that might flop.
"'S there a problem?" Price asked, leaning in closer to you.
"I mean... promoting a post costs some money. Like, for it to be advertised to five hundred people, you'd pay around one fifty. And I think, depending on how far you wanted the post to reach - like, literally, how big of a geographic area - that would cost even more."
Price chuckles. "You do realize how much business you've brought in since you've joined the team, hmm?"
That makes your cheeks warm, pressing your lips into a line to avoid grinning like an idiot at the compliment. "I mean... sure..."
"Go upstairs to the office and get my wallet." he says, standing up from his seat at the bar.
You watch with a stupefied expression as he walks to the POS and prints some blank receipt paper. "You- you mean it? Are you sure?"
He sits on a barstool near the kitchen door. "Wouldn't have said it if I didn't mean it. Hurry up- before I change my mind."
You don't need to be told twice. You drop your phone onto the bar and bolt towards the stairs - you stop yourself, running back to where Price sits and hugging him from behind. He lets out a surprise grunt as you do your best to smother him.
"You're the best boss ever!" you squeal. Then, just like that - you're off to the office upstairs. He preens over the compliment as he hears you leaping two steps at a time.
"Be careful." he calls over his shoulder. He sits there a moment, staring at the paper in front of him. He's surprised he hadn't accidentally thrown you off of him purely out of instinct, but he can't say he isn't absolutely delighted by the hug. It lingers in his mind, his chest still remembering your arms around him. He shakes his head, reaching forward to grab a pen from behind the bar.
His eyes meet Simon's - the man is glaring daggers, his head framed by the window in the kitchen door, mask hanging from his ear. His lips are pulled down into quite possibly the angriest frown Price has ever seen. His nostrils flare as he exhales - Price wonders what sort of insults are flying through the bartender's head right now.
He glares right back. If Simon wants something, he'll give it to him. But he'll make him ask for it, like any normal human being. John isn't going to surrender just because Ghost is huffing and puffing, expecting his boss to back away from you just because he's stomping his foot and looking menacing. But how can he be sure that Simon really wants you, more than he thinks Price deserves you, if the lad won't say anything? It's only reasonable, right?
"If you want something, Simon, say something." Price calls out, never backing down from Simon's jealous gaze.
He huffs again and disappears from the kitchen window. Price can hear shuffling and banging, followed by Soap's irritated voice: "Oi, I got it! Get yourself outta my kitchen n' go your own shite, 'fore you break my stuff."
Price sighs, scribbling down some numbers on the paper in front of him. He'll cave, eventually.

❝ 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬. ❞
𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐬) ⋮ Haibara Yu x GN! Reader
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 ⋮ 4.8k
𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 ⋮ After you and Haibara meet at an airport the two of you find comfort in food and each other.
𝐓𝐚𝐠𝐬 ⋮ Use of [F/N] - First Name/ [L/N]-Last Name | Cross-Posted on Ao3 | Mutual Pining | Possibly Unrequited Love | Angst | Haibara Yu is a Ray of Sunshine | JJK Manga/Anime Spoilers | Why did I write this? | Reader is a Jujutsu Sorcerer | Gender-Neutral Pronouns | Reader loves eating cause trauma
𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 ⋮ It’s canon that Haibara is into people who eat a lot.
You were at the airport, having finally gotten off of your flight you decided to find any place around the area that had food that you had desired to eat after it being so long since you had actual food you enjoyed, whether burgers or desserts or even just rice. You walked around the airport, looking around at all the food places until your nose had picked the familiar smell of a food place you used to go to when you were young.
To say you rushed was an understatement as you found yourself immediately lined up at the place, you were struggling to stop your excitement as you clenched your wallet with your eyes slowly tracing the menu like you were about to make sweet love to it.
You hadn’t held back when you were called, all those foods you missed out for since you were 8 had been ticking away at your sanity thus you picked almost everything on the menu, from new items to old and from the meals to the desserts. You remember the pricing, it wouldn’t even dent your wallet, thus you handed over your cash with the largest smile on your face.
Eating all of it was something you had no problem in, however, what you didn’t expect was some of your classmates being there. “[L/N]!” You raised a brow at this before straightening up and trying to hide all the food you had gotten, failure to do so could result in your family finding out about your break from their extreme diet thus docking your allowance, you had no real time either before you were met by Haibara Yu and Nanami Kento.
You remember them from your class since your elders held you in such a disappointed regard in being a Grade 2 Sorcerer. You buried your head in shame once you were selected by Jujutsu High and became a Grade 2 sorcerer, your elders wanted you to be better thus working you to the bone was the only way you had any chance of appeasing them, there was something you enjoyed that came out of this, however.
Since you moved out into the on-campus dorms and your elders had the money you were given a very extensive allowance thus resulted in you keeping a lot of that money to the food you found brought you joy. You were scared that these two might tell someone else about your eating habits. “Wow! That’s a lot of food, [L/N]!” The brunette chirped whilst the blond just nodded before they took a seat with you, you didn’t know what to say before Kento spoke up.
“You usually don’t eat like this on campus.” Yu nodded eagerly at that, “Exactly! You always have those intricate lunches with all those smart foods, y’know?” You found yourself wondering about what to say, yet you definitely found yourself a peeved by such a call out on your eating habits. “I just don’t get to eat like this thanks to the elders.” Yu raised a brow before Kento nodded, “The [L/N] Clan, right? They care much for appearance.” You groaned in response to this, “Yeah. Ever since I had to become a Jujutsu Sorcerer I got stuck on this strict diet.”
You remembered the bright and blurry years of your youth, short lived since you were snatched up to be prepped to become a jujutsu sorcerer, however, there was always something to keep you and the boy in a normalcy was the act opening up your lunch box to see what was held inside. You found yourself overjoyed by the lunch, no matter how simplistic or how childish, every dish you ate was one you ate earnestly with love in every bite and appreciation at every taste.
“Well,” Yu looked over at you, a large smile that creased his eyes to closure, “You don’t need to worry about us! This’ll be our secret.” The young man then pretends to zip his lips whilst his friend did the same, you jokingly joined in before questioning their whereabouts, “Where are you guys heading off to anyways?” Yu eagerly shouted about the plans, amped and excited whilst Kento was one to feel very different by such call, “It truly isn’t a fit mission if two strongest can’t handle it.” You agreed with such.
“And first years at that, I mean, we’ve just started and to give us such missions seems a bit dehumanizing like lambs to the slaughter.” You found that your life lacked any sort of simplicity, you craved the structure that you once had before the elders in your family forced you to become a Jujutsu Sorcerer, you were so young and being torn through by those higher than you that would call for your small head on a chopping block if you decided to stay with your closed loved ones in the beauty that was a life fit for your childhood.
You were bitter by the reality.
Yu was a bit conflicted on your thinking, nonetheless, he found positives in it. “It doesn’t have to be dehumanizing.” You raised a brow whilst you continued to eat your food, you held an open year as you listened earnestly to your classmate, “We’re doing things to help society that only we can do. Isn't that what matters most? Helping those weaker than us.” You found yourself seeing the light in Yu’s words, you held his words dear as they had similarity to those who you held in high regard, you still disagreed, however.
“Depending on children to help the weak means the weak are helping the weak.” You explained, you tied your leftovers up for later and collected the trash you were about to throw away, “If we were actually helping the weak then the higher ups would take on more missions than the children that they’re throwing into the warfare for the fact they can’t control their abilities.” Kento listened to you, the release of his eyebrows to allow them to find care in your words whilst you continued on, “You’re either killed for not wanting to be a sorcerer or you’re killed for being a sorcerer.”
You found your heart hurt by such memories of your childhood, the feeling of someone so bright was one unfamiliar to you and Kento seemed like the only other one who understood that “There is nothing more heartless than asking a child do you want to know how you’re going to die, or do you want to know when you’re going to do die?”
Yu watched your expression with all attention on your eyes, they were dull when talking about the reality of being a part of something so barbaric as described by you, “Even if I’m only here because of my ability, I am glad to help those who don’t have the ability as I do, and even if I am too young to know really know the severity of it all. It will all have been for the betterment of it all.” You found your eyes soften at such, it was the first time they had done that other than when you took a bite of food, “We are still too young for this mission.”
You and Yu’s attention was toward the blond before the brown-haired boy cheered, “Our upperclassmen are wearing themselves out for a young girl! We have to give it our all, Kento!” You couldn’t but notice the unwavering light that was Haibara Yu, unchanging and consistently keeping the true beauty of this world regardless of all the bleakness that had tainted yours, you admired it.
You put the bag on your arm with it sliding down to your elbow, you thought for a moment then some before Kento acknowledged your position, “You nodded at this before getting ready to leave, “Well it was seeing you both. Have a safe mission.” You gave them a warm smile, Kento nodded, and Yu waved eagerly at you when you walked away from the two, however, there was something Yu wanted to ask you which his friend of course noticed. “Well?” The blond turned to the young man next to him, “You know me too well, Kento.” The brunette whined as the two made their way over to their waiting area.
Yu knew exactly what he was feeling, ever since that talk with how your face switched from a child snatched from the wonder to one that had experienced the grace of all things when biting into simple foods, he would often watch you as you got you ate the food off campus and how happy these foods brought you. The time you would leave Jujutsu High just to go to convenience stores and stock up the fridge you had in your dorm just dedicated to you.
Yu oftentimes saw you walk by the group, you paid no attention as the only thing really on your mind was vending machine, they were near, and he’d pay attention to what you got, the specific drinks or the lunch the school had to offer. Yu dedicated himself to asking you a simple question and with that would lead him down the hole of just wanting to see you genuinely smile.
Your coping mechanism for it all was simple, if you began to grow restless or emotionally exhausted or even just because you wanted to, you would splurge on food and the smile that painted your face was one that allowed Yu to feel at peace with such a heartwarming grin on your face that finally allowed you to leave such a cynical way of thinking and allow you to be happy.
Whenever you were on Yu's mind the image of your smile lingers like a gentle whisper, a reminder of a time when the world seemed painted in hues of possibility that even in such a world of pessimism there would be something to bring you joy. It was a chance encounter that made him want to be around you more, and his determination to make sure he does his hardest to make sure he can make you smile.
Yu had begun to make small conversation with you, since you were more reclusive it was a bit hard for him, nonetheless he still made sure to get know as much about you as he could by including you in conversations when you were nearby and always acknowledging you. You two even exchanged numbers one day, you two were on a mission and decided to split up thus the two of you stayed on the phone while apart from another, he would start to text you using kaomojis every morning and anytime you left for a mission to wish you luck.
This would allow Yu to gain more confidence so he would make sure he could ask you just one question, he had called you outside from the classroom door and while you were confused you still decided to get up and make your way over to him, “Yes, Haibara?” Your voice was calm like the stillness of an untouched lake, the young man was a bit intimidated yet, he still asked you this question.
“I was wondering if I could treat you to lunch!” You looked at him, a raised brow and a tilt of your head by such an invitation, you thought about how the first and only time you and Yu had talked was when you told them your views on being a Jujutsu Sorcerer. “Oh?” The silence was evident between the two of you, you wondered why Yu was asking such question, “Oh.” Yu was asking to hang out, most likely he wanted you to join him and Nanami, but he took the initiative to come and ask you to eat with him, you didn’t know Yu meant thus you agreed.
“Sure, Haibara.” You answered, the young man wanted to fly to the moon until you uttered your next words, “I should be the one spending though, I hear a lot about your money problems from Nanami so I would rather pay for your food instead especially if Nanami is coming as well.” Yu raised a brow at this before he spoke up, putting his hands up defensively as he then fully explained his plans to you, “No. I would much rather see you happy on my dime rather than yours.” You then watched as he got flustered, the pinkness of his fair cheeks whilst he continued to smile at you, “I wanna cook for you!”
“Oh.”
A long pause was the only thing you could offer before you choked out your next words, “Cook for me?” You pointed to yourself, questioning what in the world he could be talking about with such a thing, the determined look never feels from Yu’s face as he had this large smile on his face. “You like eating, right? I could make our favorite meals and we can eat it together during lunch tomorrow?” Your eyes widened at such proposal, you felt your own face heat up at such as the offer arrived like a gentle breeze, carrying with it a sense of disbelief and wonder.
You felt a tremor of vulnerability in that moment, someone wanting to cook for you just because they knew it made you happy, it was a sweet gesture that left you befuddled as you thought for a moment. “Would you let me cook for you?” To ask to cook for you? You wanted to melt into a puddle at his warmness, you were standing next to the sun and the beam of his smile with those eyes that could light up a dim room made your heart swell.
“Of course, Haibara.” You smiled at the boy, your eyes creased with joy as you felt this large smile pull at your lips, “I’d like that a lot.” Yu’s act wasn't just about romantic feelings; it was a declaration that they saw you in a light you hadn't seen shined on you since you were a child. The revelation that someone could perceive you as more than just a cynic after such words was as surprising as it was heartwarming.
Once you and Yu found an area where he wanted to eat with you, somewhere there wasn’t too much traffic yet an area to admire you whilst he watched you eat, once you took you the lid off and uncovered the casing of the food you loved so dear be prepped with such an attention to your feelings caused a puncture in your chest that almost made you fall over.
“Make sure you eat up!” You directed your eyes over to the young man, the shine in his eyes that trampled over the sun above you, “I know you have a mission soon, so I made seconds I could bring you before you head over there.” You found yourself looking down at the food through your lashes, your eyes felt strained as you thought about those memories from once before, you looked down at the food finding comfort in its appearance as it reminded you of earlier times.
You watched as the food that was once made with love, adoration, and compassion with the hopes your closed loved ones who had tried their best shield you from such a hardening world would help you find such feelings in the box that was neatly put together just for you to enjoy. That food would be replaced by the meals that were made to give you muscle, concentration, and focus. No love was held in such foods as their purpose was only to fuel your body into becoming a weapon for the jujutsu sorcerers.
This gesture carried the recognition that your happiness could be kindled by something as simple as meal. As you began to dig into your food, a wave of realization washed over you- Yu had been paying attention all along, observing the subtle shifts in your demeanor when you indulged in the simple pleasure of a good meal.
You couldn’t help but eat the food with so much of your heart bursting at the taste, you could feel the tears welling in your eyes with how the food had made you feel so comforted in your lowest moments, Yu’s want to cook for you left you feeling so happy with a warmness bubbling inside you.
Yu watched as you ate as it was an embodiment of his wish to nurture the side of you that had been overshadowed by skepticism of what this world could truly offer you. In their newfound revelation and their intention to cook for you, they found a mirror reflecting back the potential for change and growth.
The way you ate slowly to savor each bite and the way a tear rolled down your cheek was on that made Yu a bit confused as he hadn’t cooked for himself in a while and doubted his own skills, it was a realization that hit Yu like a ton of bricks, the look in your face that revealed this side of you that Yu wanted to protect forever.
“Thank you, Haibara.” You swooned, your tone unknowingly made Yu’s cheeks flush, “It’s no problem! To know my cooking made you happy is all I could ever want.” The way your face had grown hot after such made you smile even more as you continued to eat, Yu would join shortly after as he enjoyed eating with you, the admiration the two of you shared for one another in that moment held true for the rest of the time you two had.
In the months that followed, his cooking became a source of comfort and connection. With each shared meal, he nurtured not just your taste buds, but a sense of belonging that had eluded you for so long. Yu’s genuine yearn for your happiness that built up inside of him had soon blossomed into the desire to be with you more. These feelings you both harbored for one another went beyond the food itself; it was woven into the very fabric of your actions.
The way he crafted dishes that were tailored to your preferences with each bite infused with his love that only grew greater and greater the more the two of you had grown around each other. Haibara Yu's relentless determination to see you smile created a profound shift within you. It wasn't just about the food anymore; it was about the friendship that bloomed between the two of you. The young man’s presence became a safe haven, a space where you could shed the armor and embrace vulnerability without fear of judgment.
With every meal and time spent, the world was one you saw through Yu’s with the hope that the two of you could see the beauty in everything with each others presence by one another’s side, you recognize the world that had been obscured by your own skepticism.
As time passed, Yu's intentions became increasingly clear – he wasn't just here as someone who wanted to cook you food; he was there to see you at your happiest with a desire to be with you in a way that was closely intertwined the two of you. Yu cherished the memory of that first smile, the one that made him want to see that smile every day, and with time that smile prevailed even without food with just the sound of his voice and the knowing of his footsteps.
In the presence of Haibara Yu, you found not only a reason to smile but a reason to embrace life with renewed fervor. The ability to remember the significance of that initial smile was a testament to his attentiveness and his unspoken promise to continue cultivating happiness through his existence alone.
In the realm of improbable beginnings, a single shared meal served as the catalyst for a love that defied all logic that came to mind. You were willing to throw everything, you would cry out to those above you to change everything and find a way out of the life you were forced into and instead live a normal life with one you were sure deserved better than all the endings you both could be met with.
You knew that you couldn’t fight it, there was no reason to fight it anyways, to run away from being a Jujutsu Sorcerer was punishable by death thus you would happily take your life to live your happiest days with one who brought you the happiness and joy to finally be around them in a bliss of normalcy without any way of hurting getting towards the young man you wanted to make sure that you could do what you needed to guarantee yours and his safety.
It was an ordinary encounter, yet it cast a spell that bound you to him. You two met in the place you both always ate your lunches, you asked him to meet you there before he left for his mission, an anniversary of a friendship as it had been an official year since you two first shared your meal together.
“I don't think we should be here anymore.”
The love you held for Haibara Yu wasn't a fleeting infatuation, but a steadfast devotion that had held many trials and tribulations with your plans. It wasn't solely based on the food, or the shared laughter, or the long stares; rather, it was a foundation built on mutual understanding of one another, the beauty of this world that you could not see before him, and intimate emotions that transcended words.
And yet, the humor lay in the very attributes that fortified our connection - these same emotions held the power to destabilize the missions as you watched Yu throw himself in front of you, to ruin all chances of a future once announced of your arranged marriage for the sake of your clan, and the fact you could not escape the feeling of all being taken from you in that moment.
“Where should we go then?” Yu raised a brow, the feeling of confused excitement laced his words as you spoke, “Anywhere. Just us living normal lives, y’know?” The young man found himself still confused on what you were saying, “Even if it takes forever, I want you to just live a normal life one day.”
Your lives entwined in unexpected ways, drawn together by a shared purpose of giving your lives for society and an unspoken understanding that both of you couldn’t even began to comprehend about one another. With each passing mission, the two of you had grown closer, it wasn’t fueled by the shared victories or moments of vulnerability. It was the fact you wanted to do everything in your power to make sure you wouldn’t lose him.
“You could finally leave this inhospitable place and be happy in normalcy.” You told the boy, he said your name with a bit of embarrassment by such an inference, “It doesn’t have to be you sacrificing your life for everything when we can be normal for the rest of our lives.” Yu’s tone of confusion, less excitement as he was trying to grasp what you were trying to say, he muttered your name once more in dismay.
The realization that the emotions you two harbored would become a double-edged sword.
“Our duty is to protect those who cannot do what we do.” Yu explained to you, you found your eyes faltering a bit, you watched as Yu’s expression was aggrieved that deprived you of the look that was once bathed you in joy. “I know that you don’t want me to go on these missions, but I need you to understand there is nothing that will prevent that.”
You felt your heart crumble at such a sentence, “I will give my all to something I can actually do. I will not rest until my mission is complete.” Tears rolled down your cheeks, each one a testament to the unwavering affection that had leaked from the inability to keep such emotions under wraps. You spoke against your better judgment, “Forget the mission.” The young man’s voice got louder, feeling confusion and frustration as he found his voice, “I have a duty-” Your head snapped to look at him in the eyes, “Forget your duty!”
Yu looked at you in disbelief by your words, you found your cheeks wet by such an outburst with your chest heaving at such a mention of giving his all, the weight of your unspoken feelings grew heavier, causing your heart to ache in silence. The ache wasn't solely from your inability to confess; it was exacerbated by the knowledge that his heart was different from yours and is too aching with the same unuttered truths. You both stood at the precipice of a love that defied the circumstances that bound the two of you to the reality of your existence.
Fear held you both captive, chained to the knowledge that wanting what is best for one another. Yu wanted a life with you, and you shared in this hopeful future. Watching Yu from a distance with tears in your eyes whilst your heart ached with a silent agony. The sound of his voice slowly becoming a bittersweet symphony that echoed through your mind, a constant reminder of the love you couldn't profess.
‘What would even be the point?’
You could tell him you loved him just to keep him there, he would do anything to make sure you’re happy. In your heart you knew how terrible that would be to make him stop what he has his heart sent on for the selfishness to keep him here with you for even longer than it had to be.
In your mind, the fact that Yu didn’t want to leave this awful place with you already gave you the lenses to see the future that was never there in the first place. The pain of unexpressed feelings intensified, manifesting as a gnawing depression that cast a shadow over even the brightest moments. The intricacies of the relationship you two shared kept us close yet distant, fostering a maddening duality of connection and detachment.
You would envision yourself uttering the words you longed to say, with a hope of a result in watching his eyes light up with the realization that both hearts share the harmony.
The reality of it always brought you back, to keep him here with you and make sure he stayed with you longer even if it meant jeopardizing everything he ever wanted or to stay silent and let him live the life he wants to live with him sacrificing it all just to make sure those who can’t do such will be okay.
You remained a silent, caught in a perpetual loop of love and longing, loyalty and restraint. The boy who held your heart, unknowingly gripping it so hard it would pop, he continued to occupy your thoughts and dreams, a beacon of light amidst the darkness of the chosen path.
You cannot come back from this moment.
“I’m sorry for invalidating your views, Yu.”
You wipe the tears from your face and give him a large smile, he looked at you in disbelief for a moment before you gave him such a toothy smile, “It’s selfish for me to believe in such a thing as running away from our destiny.” You sighed, your throat rasped from your tears and the words that held a tight hold on your neck.
You accepted this.
“Fulfill your duty as a strong jujutsu sorcerer.” You told Yu, giving him a warm smile, the same returned to you that let you get enveloped in all the beauty the world had offer to you as you looked into his eyes. In Yu's eyes, he watched as you gave him a smile that made him feel whole. The young man wanted to embrace you, a tight hug to hide his face from the tears about to come out, yet he just smiled at you.
“Thank you, [F/N].”
You both bid farewell to one another you stayed there as he ran off to go prepare for his trip, you smiled before he turned back to look at you, too far to hear anything he pulled out his phone and began to text you.
You found your hands shaky, the feeling of fear palpable before you finally found the phone in your pocket, your eyes are strained against the brightness with no help of anything since the dark clouds shielded the sun from you that day. You looked confused at him, his arm shooting up to wave at you before you heard the noise of the message and ran in the opposite direction, you opened your phone to read the message.

Subway Ends $6.99 Meal Deal Amid Value Wars: Challenges and New Strategies

The fast-food giant Subway has pulled the plug on its $6.99 meal deal, a promotional campaign that was intended to boost digital engagement and attract budget-conscious diners. Initially launched as an exclusive, online-only offer, the deal was supposed to run through mid-December but ended prematurely due to underwhelming performance. This development reflects the ongoing challenges Subway faces in the competitive fast-food “value wars,” where chains are vying for market share amid tightening consumer spending.

The $6.99 Meal Deal: A Missed Opportunity
Subway’s $6.99 promotion offered a limited selection of meals at a discounted rate, accessible only through digital channels using a specific redemption code. While designed to drive traffic to Subway’s online platforms, this model may have inadvertently limited its reach. Critics and franchisees noted that the deal’s exclusivity and complexity reduced its appeal, especially in contrast to simpler and more accessible value menus offered by competitors like McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s.
Moreover, Subway’s promotional strategy did not resonate well with its target audience. Value-driven customers, already accustomed to straightforward discounts from competitors, found the campaign cumbersome. The need for a digital code to unlock the offer may have further alienated less tech-savvy diners, limiting the campaign’s overall effectiveness .
Franchisee Concerns: Low Margins and Rising Costs
A significant factor in the deal’s failure was resistance from Subway franchisees, who have been vocal about the financial pressures associated with offering deep discounts. Low margins on value items, combined with rising costs for food, labor, and utilities, have made it increasingly difficult for franchisees to turn a profit. Franchisees argued that the $6.99 price point was unsustainable, further straining relationships between Subway’s corporate leadership and its operators.
This is not an isolated issue for Subway. The chain has been struggling with declining unit volumes for years. The average sales per location in 2023 stood at $490,000, one of the lowest in the fast-food industry, despite modest increases in recent years. These challenges have contributed to the closure of over 7,000 Subway locations since 2015, including more than 400 in 2023 alone.
The Competitive Landscape: Fast-Food Value Wars
Subway’s challenges are emblematic of broader trends in the fast-food industry, where chains are locked in intense competition to attract budget-conscious consumers. Inflationary pressures and shifts in dining habits have made value menus a critical battleground. McDonald’s, for instance, has seen success with simplified value offerings and targeted promotions, while Taco Bell has maintained its edge through aggressive marketing of low-priced items.
However, balancing affordability with profitability remains a significant challenge. While value deals can drive foot traffic, they often come at the expense of margins, creating tension between corporate strategies and franchisee realities. This dynamic has been particularly pronounced at Subway, where franchisees often bear the brunt of promotional costs.

Subway’s New Approach: Digital Innovation and Sustainability
In response to the $6.99 deal’s underperformance, Subway is pivoting toward a new set of promotions aimed at attracting diners while addressing franchisee concerns. Among the upcoming initiatives is a revamped $6.99 digital-exclusive Footlong offer, set to launch next week. The chain is also planning buy-one-get-one-free promotions to compete more effectively with rival deals.
These moves are part of Subway’s broader effort to revitalize its brand under new ownership. Acquired by private-equity firm Roark Capital in 2023, Subway is undergoing a transformation focused on innovation, franchisee support, and market relevance. The company has also invested heavily in digital infrastructure, aiming to capture a larger share of online orders and cater to evolving consumer preferences.
Conclusion: A Lesson in Adaptation
Subway’s experience with the $6.99 meal deal highlights the complexities of navigating the fast-food value wars. As the chain explores new promotional strategies, its ability to balance customer demand for affordability with franchisee profitability will be critical. With fierce competition and evolving consumer expectations, Subway’s next steps will determine whether it can reclaim its position as a leader in the fast-food industry.
This episode underscores the importance of aligning corporate strategies with franchisee realities, particularly in a competitive and cost-sensitive market. For Subway, the road ahead will require not only innovative marketing but also a renewed focus on operational efficiency and franchisee relations.

Casual-Dining Chains Adapt as Consumer Preferences Shift
Source-Brisky Net Lease
Shift in Consumer Preferences
Rick Cardenas, CEO of Darden Restaurants, highlighted a notable trend in the restaurant industry: an increasing number of customers are turning away from higher-priced fast-food options towards casual-dining chains. While Darden itself hasn’t seen direct benefits from this shift, competitors like Brinker International, owner of Chili’s, and Dine Brands, parent company of Applebee’s, are capitalizing on the opportunity to attract customers who are frustrated with rising fast-food prices.
Competitive Strategies in Action
Chili’s recently launched an aggressive advertising campaign targeting fast-food giants like McDonald’s, criticizing their pricing strategies for burgers. Meanwhile, Applebee’s has focused on offering competitive deals and promotions aimed at luring in fast-food diners seeking better value for their money.
Industry Insights and Challenges
During Darden’s quarterly earnings call, Cardenas noted that industry data indicates a slight movement of customers from quick-service restaurants to casual-dining chains establishments. This shift comes amid a broader economic backdrop where consumers are feeling the impact of inflation across various sectors, including dining out.
According to Department of Labor data, full-service restaurant menu prices have risen by 3.5% in the past year, slightly lower than the 4.5% increase observed in limited-service eateries. Despite this, the overall consumer price index rose by 3.3% over the same period, reflecting the broader inflationary pressures impacting consumer spending habits.
Navigating Economic Pressures
Both fast-food chains and full-service restaurants alike have been grappling with the challenge of maintaining customer loyalty amidst rising prices. McDonald’s, for instance, has faced criticism and backlash over its increased menu prices, prompting the company to introduce new value meals and promotions to appeal to cost-conscious diners.
Darden has pursued a different strategy by leveraging television advertising and maintaining competitive pricing relative to inflation levels. Despite reporting flat same-store sales growth and lower-than-expected revenue in its fiscal fourth quarter, Darden remains optimistic about its performance compared to its peers in the casual-dining chains sector.
Conclusion
As consumer preferences evolve in response to economic pressures, casual-dining chains are strategically adjusting their offerings and marketing approaches to attract and retain customers. While challenges persist, particularly in managing inflationary impacts, companies like Darden Restaurants continue to navigate the competitive landscape with resilience, aiming to sustain growth and profitability in the evolving dining industry.

The Cost of Fast Food in the UK and Its Enduring Appeal in 2024

Fast food. It's a familiar comfort, a quick bite on a busy day, a source of nostalgic memories for many. But in the UK of 2024, with the rising cost of living squeezing wallets tight, is the allure of the golden arches (or the paper crowns at Burger King) enough to keep these chains profitable? Let's delve into the world of fast food costs in the UK and explore whether these eateries can maintain their grip on British taste buds. The Price of a Burger (and Fries): A Breakdown First things first, how much does a typical fast food meal set you back in the UK? Here's a ballpark figure: - Standard burger: Expect to pay around £4-£6 (roughly $5-$7.50 USD) for a basic cheeseburger or similar offering. - Value meals: These combos including fries and a drink can range from £6-£8 (around $7.50-$10 USD), depending on the chain and the size of the meal. - Premium burgers: For those seeking gourmet toppings or larger portions, prices can climb to £8-£10 (roughly $10-$12.50 USD) or even higher. It's no secret that the UK, like many countries, is facing a cost-of-living crisis. Grocery bills are rising, energy costs are soaring, and every pound matters more than ever. This economic reality undeniably impacts consumer behavior, and fast food chains aren't immune. While there's still a market for quick and convenient meals, customers might be opting for cheaper menu options or reducing their fast food frequency altogether. Value meals and budget-friendly options are likely to see a rise in popularity as people prioritize affordability. The fast food landscape in the UK is constantly evolving. Here are some key trends shaping the industry: - Delivery Dominance: The convenience of home delivery has become a major factor for many fast food consumers. Delivery apps like Deliveroo and Uber Eats have partnered with numerous chains, adding a delivery fee to the base cost of the meal. - Healthy(ish) Options: Fast food chains are increasingly offering healthier alternatives like salads, wraps, and plant-based burgers. While these options might come with a slight price premium compared to traditional burgers, they cater to a growing health-conscious demographic. - Tech Integration: Self-service kiosks and mobile ordering are becoming more commonplace. This allows for faster service and potentially reduces staffing costs for restaurants, but it might also lead to a less personalized customer experience. - With rising costs and changing consumer habits, are fast food chains in the UK still profitable? The answer is yes, but with a caveat. While the industry remains profitable overall, individual chains need to adapt and innovate to maintain their market share. Here are some strategies fast food chains are employing to stay afloat: - Menu Optimization: Streamlining menus and focusing on popular, high-margin items can improve profitability. This might involve removing underperforming items and introducing limited-time offers to keep things fresh for customers. - Value Menu Revamps: Value meals are a crucial battleground in the fast food wars. Chains are likely to refine their value menu offerings, ensuring they remain competitive and attractive to budget-conscious customers. - Embracing Technology: Technology can be a double-edged sword. While delivery apps can increase revenue, they also come with commission fees. Finding the right balance between leveraging technology for convenience and managing its associated costs is key. - The future of fast food in the UK hinges on its ability to adapt to changing consumer preferences and economic realities. While affordability will remain a key driver, factors like convenience, health consciousness, and even ethical sourcing practices will likely play a role in influencing consumer choices. Fast food chains that can strike a balance between cost, quality, and innovation will stand the best chance of thriving in this ever-evolving landscape. So, the next time you find yourself contemplating a quick bite, remember – the cost of your meal reflects not just the ingredients, but also the complex economic forces shaping the world of fast food. Fast food might not be haute cuisine, but it holds a special place in British culture. Whether it's a nostalgic indulgence or a convenient solution to a busy day, fast food chains will likely continue to cater to the needs of UK consumers. However, Read the full article

Looking Burritoful
Once again, COVID will go down as the primary impetus that caused many a fast food or fast-casual restaurant to rethink its physical footprint. To be fair, the movement was already in motion for a few years prior to the pandemic, as evidenced by the “McBoxing” of practically every chain from McDonald’s to Taco Bell, KFC, Burger King, Wendy’s, and more.
Today, the emphasis is on more esoteric items, and what the architecture may still lack in originality, it is strong in terms of sustainability, carbon footprint, digital ordering, and size. Like the new Chipotle design, one the company plans to roll out to 100 of its stores by next year. The fully-electric restaurant will do away with the gas grills that were long part of the kitchen visual, and even feature solar panels and EV charging stations where possible.
Already two of the prototypes are open, in Florida and Virginia, with a third coming to Colorado soon. The chain, which has been plagued by food safety problems and the resultant social media backlash, is intent on more than doubling in size from the present 3200 US units to roughly 7000 within just a few years.
In addition to focusing on more environmentally-friendly and healthy options, the firm is also striving to go smaller in urban spaces, as well as push customers to digital ordering. If the latter two seem like a different verse from the same food retail song, you would be right.
And once again, isn’t it odd how it took something of global proportions to get companies to ponder how they could do business better?
Of course, there is nagging inflation to factor in, something we hope subsides soon, but increased labor costs likely will not. That is, unless restaurants can figure out how to do what they do, all the while shedding jobs and real estate costs in the process. The new stores aim to address those matters.
One of the major takeaways from the industry-wide trend is that dining will increasingly be done away from the restaurant, if at all. Curbside pickup, drive-thrus, and take-away will completely change the dining experience, which, once again thanks to COVID, found us eating primarily at home.
I did find Chipotle’s evolving menu to be intriguing. Their stated objective of more vegan and vegetarian options is fine. It’s just that I always thought of Chipotle as a place where a person looking to avoid one or more ingredients could easily do so, by virtue of the fact that everything was built to order anyway. Perhaps they plan to include other plant-based ingredients, which is all consistent with their overall mission.
One thing’s for certain, though: Chipotle is going to have to work hard to help the collective memory forget those food safety issues. The firm had food poisoning issues in 2008 and 2015, which continued through 2018. But while diners were worried, investors seized the moment. In the last five years, their stock price has soared from $318 in April 2018, to $1714 this week. They peaked at $1792 in October 2021, evidencing a significant turnaround.
Other restaurants with food poisoning problems, like Chi-Chi’s in 2003, did not live to tell the story. Chipotle can certainly thank their lucky stars.
And with a market cap of $47.35 billion, it is understandable how it is going to finance all of those new stores. They’re not paying out anything in dividends, so they are free to plow it all back into the business.
As someone who once ate out at least once per day for many years leading up to COVID, I never could have imagined the new formats being successful, not to mention my own dining habits changing. But they have changed, and now I might eat out once a week while in town. I would much rather cook my own food these days. The damage—in their perspective, at least—is done, and it will take another monumental force to get me to change back.
Speaking of Chipotle in all of this, I have not been back since the 2015 outbreak. You could say my memory has not faded, at least not yet. I might have to work on that, especially if and when I see one of these newly designed stores. I have to stay current, you know, and take pics for my students.
Even if it seems all the restaurants look the same these days.

Winnipeg is Good: Support Local Businesses!
My husband and I love to dine out and all of our favourite places are small, locally owned restaurants. I also enjoy posting pictures of food on Instagram, and though it may seem a tacky habit in the eyes of some people, for me it is my way of showing appreciation and support for the restaurant. Whenever I post something, I am hoping that it encourages other people to try that place or make them aware that it even exists in the first place!
The local restaurant industry is one of the hardest hit during the Covid-19 pandemic. Restaurants, with their razor-thin margins, depend on customers to stay afloat, and with everyone stuck at home, the sad reality is that there is a lot of laid-off restaurant staff, and local restaurant owners are having to find creative ways to keep their doors open. Instead of closing their doors, some restaurants have pivoted to delivery/pickup only services, some are selling pre-prepared meals to heat at home, and some like King’s Head Pub and Bodegoes have re-opened as a grocery-delivery service. My husband and I are making an effort to support the local restaurants by still ordering delivery/pickup with the hope that whatever little support we can give help them make it to other side of these crazy times. How else can you support restaurants during the pandemic? Follow them on Instagram, buy gift cards, order directly from them and do pickup if you can (food delivery services such as Skip and Doordash pretty much eats what little profit restaurants make in commissions), and tip generously!
Even before the pandemic, we made a conscious effort to support locally owned businesses and restaurants. Of course, not everything (or everyone) local is good (ahem, Nygard and Fun Mountain) so do your research, but I can say with certainty that everything good is local! There are many reasons to support local businesses. Many of our local businesses pay living wages. What does that mean? It means, yes, you will have to pay a little bit more for your coffee or your donut or your book, but that also means you are supporting a business that ensure their staff are paid fairly. Many of our local businesses and restaurants focus on sustainability – for example, they use environmentally friendly containers and they support local growers, farmers and suppliers (which means the ingredients and raw materials don’t have to travel far!). Supporting local means more of your dollars stay within the community – to the owners, the suppliers, the staff – local people who are very passionate about their craft and their business, and their profits are then reinvested to our community. Aside from the economic reasons, our local businesses are also very active in giving back to the community, for example, the first week when all the restaurants were forced to close their dining rooms to customers, many of them came together to donate their extra inventory to Chef Ben Kramer who then cooked all the food donations for local soup kitchens. Last, but not the least, these local businesses are what makes Winnipeg unique. Think of the last time you travelled somewhere? Where did you go to eat? Somewhere local, that you can only find in that place, I hope! Well, why wouldn’t you do the same at home?
So how do you know which businesses and restaurants to support? A lot of them have social media presence, so follow them on Instagram. They usually have stories that gives you a glimpse on how they run their business, for example, I saw a story where the owners visited a farm and showed us how it practiced ethical farming practices. I mean, I wish we could all be vegan or vegetarian, but the reality is the majority will not be, but that does not mean we have to support inhumane, factory farming methods. Instagram stories and posts will also have specials that you won’t normally find on the menu, so it’s a great way to try new things! I know that it is sometimes hard not to let the prices dictate where we decide to buy something, but if you can, think of the reasons why something is a little bit more expensive (fair wages, economies of scale – small businesses can’t compete with Bezos! -- quality of ingredients, keeping local dollars local) and make your decisions on value, not cost.
I have put together a list of our favourite local businesses and restaurants with the hope that it encourages you to support them. Not sure which ones are open now, but check out their Instagram pages for latest info.

Restaurants Kinds and Characteristics
Broadly speaking, restaurants can be segmented into a number of categories: 1- Chain or independent (indy) and franchise restaurants. McDonald's, Union Square Cafe, or KFC 2- Quick service (QSR), sandwich. Burger, chicken, and so on; convenience store, noodle, pizza 3- Fast casual. Panera Bread, Atlanta Bread Company, Au Bon Pain, and so on 4- Family. Bob Evans, Perkins, Friendly's, Steak 'n Shake, Waffle House 5- Casual. Applebee's, Hard Rock Caf´e, Chili's, TGI Friday's 6- Fine dining. Charlie Trotter's, Morton's The Steakhouse, Flemming's, The Palm, Four Seasons 7- Other. Steakhouses, seafood, ethnic, dinner houses, celebrity, and so on. Of course, some restaurants fall into more than one category. For example, an Italian restaurant could be casual and ethnic. Leading restaurant concepts in terms of sales have been tracked for years by the magazine Restaurants and Institutions.
CHAIN OR INDEPENDENT The impression that a few huge quick-service chains completely dominate the restaurant business is misleading. Chain restaurants have some advantages and some disadvantages over independent restaurants. The advantages include:
1- Recognition in the marketplace 2- Greater advertising clout 3- Sophisticated systems development 4- Discounted purchasing
When franchising, various kinds of assistance are available. Independent restaurants are relatively easy to open. All you need is a few thousand dollars, a knowledge of restaurant operations, and a strong desire to succeed. The advantage for independent restaurateurs is that they can ''do their own thing'' in terms of concept development, menus, decor, and so on. Unless our habits and taste change drastically, there is plenty of room for independent restaurants in certain locations. Restaurants come and go. Some independent restaurants will grow into small chains, and larger companies will buy out small chains. Get More Info RESTAURANTES EN ACAPULCO
Once small chains display growth and popularity, they are likely to be bought out by a larger company or will be able to acquire financing for expansion. A temptation for the beginning restaurateur is to observe large restaurants in big cities and to believe that their success can be duplicated in secondary cities. Reading the restaurant reviews in New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., or San Francisco may give the impression that unusual restaurants can be replicated in Des Moines, Kansas City, or Main Town, USA. Because of demographics, these high-style or ethnic restaurants will not click in small cities and towns.
5- Will go for training from the bottom up and cover all areas of the restaurant's operation Franchising involves the least financial risk in that the restaurant format, including building design, menu, and marketing plans, already have been tested in the marketplace. Franchise restaurants are less likely to go belly up than independent restaurants. The reason is that the concept is proven and the operating procedures are established with all (or most) of the kinks worked out. Training is provided, and marketing and management support are available. The increased likelihood of success does not come cheap, however.
There is a franchising fee, a royalty fee, advertising royalty, and requirements of substantial personal net worth. For those lacking substantial restaurant experience, franchising may be a way to get into the restaurant business-providing they are prepared to start at the bottom and take a crash training course. Restaurant franchisees are entrepreneurs who prefer to own, operate, develop, and extend an existing business concept through a form of contractual business arrangement called franchising.1 Several franchises have ended up with multiple stores and made the big time. Naturally, most aspiring restaurateurs want to do their own thing-they have a concept in mind and can't wait to go for it.
Here are samples of the costs involved in franchising:
1- A Miami Subs traditional restaurant has a $30,000 fee, a royalty of 4.5 percent, and requires at least five years' experience as a multi-unit operator, a personal/business equity of $1 million, and a personal/business net worth of $5 million.
2- Chili's requires a monthly fee based on the restaurant's sales performance (currently a service fee of 4 percent of monthly sales) plus the greater of (a) monthly base rent or (b) percentage rent that is at least 8.5 percent of monthly sales.
3- McDonald's requires $200,000 of nonborrowed personal resources and an initial fee of $45,000, plus a monthly service fee based on the restaurant's sales performance (about 4 percent) and rent, which is a monthly base rent or a percentage of monthly sales. Equipment and preopening costs range from $461,000 to $788,500.
4- Pizza Factory Express Units (200 to 999 square feet) require a $5,000 franchise fee, a royalty of 5 percent, and an advertising fee of 2 percent. Equipment costs range from $25,000 to $90,000, with miscellaneous costs of $3,200 to $9,000 and opening inventory of $6,000.
5- Earl of Sandwich has options for one unit with a net worth requirement of $750,000 and liquidity of $300,000; for 5 units, a net worth of $1 million and liquidity of $500,000 is required; for 10 units, net worth of $2 million and liquidity of $800,000. The franchise fee is $25,000 per location, and the royalty is 6 percent.
What do you get for all this money? Franchisors will provide:
1- Help with site selection and a review of any proposed sites 2- Assistance with the design and building preparation 3- Help with preparation for opening 4- Training of managers and staff 5- Planning and implementation of pre-opening marketing strategies 6- Unit visits and ongoing operating advice
There are hundreds of restaurant franchise concepts, and they are not without risks. The restaurant owned or leased by a franchisee may fail even though it is part of a well-known chain that is highly successful. Franchisers also fail. A case in point is the highly touted Boston Market, which was based in Golden, Colorado. In 1993, when the company's stock was first offered to the public at $20 per share, it was eagerly bought, increasing the price to a high of $50 a share. In 1999, after the company declared bankruptcy, the share price sank to 75 cents. The contents of many of its stores were auctioned off at a fraction of their cost.7 Fortunes were made and lost. One group that did not lose was the investment bankers who put together and sold the stock offering and received a sizable fee for services.
The offering group also did well; they were able to sell their shares while the stocks were high. Quick-service food chains as well-known as Hardee's and Carl's Jr. have also gone through periods of red ink. Both companies, now under one owner called CKE, experienced periods as long as four years when real earnings, as a company, were negative. (Individual stores, company owned or franchised, however, may have done well during the down periods.) There is no assurance that a franchised chain will prosper.
At one time in the mid-1970s, A&W Restaurants, Inc., of Farmington Hills, Michigan, had 2,400 units. In 1995, the chain numbered a few more than 600. After a buyout that year, the chain expanded by 400 stores. Some of the expansions took place in nontraditional locations, such as kiosks, truck stops, colleges, and convenience stores, where the full-service restaurant experience is not important. A restaurant concept may do well in one region but not in another. The style of operation may be highly compatible with the personality of one operator and not another.
Most franchised operations call for a lot of hard work and long hours, which many people perceive as drudgery. If the franchisee lacks sufficient capital and leases a building or land, there is the risk of paying more for the lease than the business can support. Relations between franchisers and the franchisees are often strained, even in the largest companies. The goals of each usually differ; franchisers want maximum fees, while franchisees want maximum support in marketing and franchised service such as employee training. At times, franchise chains get involved in litigation with their franchisees.
As franchise companies have set up hundreds of franchises across America, some regions are saturated: More franchised units were built than the area can support. Current franchise holders complain that adding more franchises serves only to reduce sales of existing stores. Pizza Hut, for example, stopped selling franchises except to well-heeled buyers who can take on a number of units. Overseas markets constitute a large source of the income of several quick-service chains. As might be expected, McDonald's has been the leader in overseas expansions, with units in 119 countries.
With its roughly 30,000 restaurants serving some 50 million customers daily, about half of the company's profits come from outside the United States. A number of other quick-service chains also have large numbers of franchised units abroad. While the beginning restaurateur quite rightly concentrates on being successful here and now, many bright, ambitious, and energetic restaurateurs think of future possibilities abroad. Once a concept is established, the entrepreneur may sell out to a franchiser or, with a lot of guidance, take the format overseas via the franchise. (It is folly to build or buy in a foreign country without a partner who is financially secure and well versed in the local laws and culture.).
The McDonald's success story in the United States and abroad illustrates the importance of adaptability to local conditions. The company opens units in unlikely locations and closes those that do not do well. Abroad, menus are tailored to fit local customs. In the Indonesia crisis, for example, french fries that had to be imported were taken off the menu, and rice was substituted. Reading the life stories of big franchise winners may suggest that once a franchise is well established, the way is clear sailing. Thomas Monaghan, founder of Domino Pizza, tells a different story. At one time, the chain had accumulated a debt of $500 million. Monaghan, a devout Catholic, said that he changed his life by renouncing his greatest sin, pride, and rededicating his life to ''God, family, and pizza.''
A meeting with Pope John Paul II had changed his life and his feeling about good and evil as ''personal and abiding.'' Fortunately, in Mr. Monaghan's case, the rededication worked well. There are 7,096 Domino Pizza outlets worldwide, with sales of about $3.78 billion a year. Monaghan sold most of his interest in the company for a reported $1 billion and announced that he would use his fortune to further Catholic church causes. In the recent past, most food-service millionaires have been franchisers, yet a large number of would-be restaurateurs, especially those enrolled in university degree courses in hotel and restaurant management, are not very excited about being a quick-service franchisee.
They prefer owning or managing a full-service restaurant. Prospective franchisees should review their food experience and their access to money and decide which franchise would be appropriate for them. If they have little or no food experience, they can consider starting their restaurant career with a less expensive franchise, one that provides start-up training. For those with some experience who want a proven concept, the Friendly's chain, which began franchising in 1999, may be a good choice. The chain has more than 700 units. The restaurants are considered family dining and feature ice cream specialties, sandwiches, soups, and quickservice meals.
Let's emphasize this point again: Work in a restaurant you enjoy and perhaps would like to emulate in your own restaurant. If you have enough experience and money, you can strike out on your own. Better yet, work in a successful restaurant where a partnership or proprietorship might be possible or where the owner is thinking about retiring and, for tax or other reasons, may be willing to take payments over time. Franchisees are, in effect, entrepreneurs, many of whom create chains within chains.
McDonald's had the highest system-wide sales of a quick-service chain, followed by Burger King. Wendy's, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC came next. Subway, as one among hundreds of franchisers, gained total sales of $3.9 billion. There is no doubt that 10 years from now, a listing of the companies with the highest sales will be different. Some of the current leaders will experience sales declines, and some will merge with or be bought out by other companies-some of which may be financial giants not previously engaged in the restaurant business.

🍔🍟🇺🇸 — ⭐️ Every Wednesday here at Burgerdudes we publish a new review. You can find all our reviews (300+) on Burgerdudes.se. — The Habit Burger Grill (★★★★☆) — The Habit Burger Grill opened their first restaurant in Santa Barbara back in 1969, and have now grown to be a quite large chain with over 250 restaurants in the U.S. They’re mainly based on the west coast, but have expanded across the country and even have several locations in China. · Their spartan menu contains six burgers, including one vegetarian, and their prices are respectably low. We ordered a Double Charburger with two grilled patties, lettuce, caramelised onions, tomatoes, mayo and pickles. It looked excellent, especially coming from a fast-food chain, and it tasted just as great. · The grilled beef was really juicy and was nicely charred, and the crispy bacon and creamy cheese worked wonders. We were really impressed by the flavours. The crunchy and acidic pickles worked great with the fresh vegetables, and we were very satisfied with our meal. Our only real complaint is that they could have grilled the patties a bit less and seasoned them with more pepper, but that’s about it. · It takes a great burger to handle a sesame bun, and thankfully this hamburger handled it great. It was nicely heated and one of the better ones we’ve eaten. The Habit Burger Grill’s menu is priced between In-N-Out Burger and Shake Shack, but quality-wise they fall just a little short of both of these legendary chains. But they’re still definitely worth a visit if you find yourself near one of their locations. — @habitburgergrill #burger #burgers #burgertime #burgerporn #burgerdudes #burgerlovers #food #foodie #hamburger #hamburgare #losangeles #losangeles #la #laburgers #lasvegas #lasvegasburgers #🍔 #🍟 #🇺🇸 (at The Habit Burger Grill) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrAJWdglrUX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13690svqvapzu

Catching up on my omegaverse week! This is for Day 6, “outdated traditions,” and is a fic idea I’ve been wanting to write for ages. I had an idea about there being “omega” and “alpha” cakes that were exchanged in the past, and I thought it’d be cute to explore with these guys.
Rhys has never been to this little pastry shop before.
His favorite one lies on the other end of the hub, with an adjoined cafe that sells the vanilla bean lattes he likes to grab whenever he has time before work. Jack likes their black coffee well enough, so it gives him an excuse to go and grab a strawberry danish to tide him over until lunchtime.
But this shop looks little like his usual spot. For one, they don’t seem to sell coffee at all, with the little menu behind the counter displaying only a couple varieties of tea sold by cup or in loose leaf form. Rhys doesn’t think he’s had anything like that since he was in college and desperately trying to stave off a sore throat with a little mint tea and honey.
But thankfully, he’s not here for coffee. No, Rhys is here at this little, quaintly decorated pastry shop way out on the outskirts of the Hub, to look for alpha cake.
See, Hyperion’s a modern company. Though most of the high-ranking executives and managers are alphas, beta and omegas are ostensibly welcomed and allowed to advance if they have the proper skills to back it up. Rhys has heard more horror stores from some of the other more traditional companies, making even a cutthroat place like Helios seem like a relative paradise. And now that he’s Handsome Jack’s live-in boyfriend life has eased considerably, with his statue rendering him effectively immune to any lingering traditional bias. Comes with the territory of dating the man who can jettison all his enemies into space with the press of a button.
But not all the old traditions are necessarily bad, even if they come from kind of stuffy backgrounds. Case in point—alpha cake.
He’d first heard of cake as a courtship ritual back when he was a teen, thanks to his mother. Generations ago it was commonplace to have a large party when an omega and alpha were intended to mate, one that joined both families together in celebration. The centerpiece of such an event was the exchange of special cakes between the two, meant to signify what each partner would provide for the other—as well as allow each family to show off their biggest, fanciest looking cakes.
Despite the fact that Rhys was by-far a non-traditional omega—first off, he was tall and pretty skinny, already a guy that’d be passed over for his lack of “child-bearing hips”—he’d always found the idea of the cake exchange kind of cute. It might’ve just been his sweet tooth talking but he’d always fantasized bringing his future-mate an alpha cake to confirm his feelings. And while that thought had always lingered in the back of his mind, only recently—as his relationship with Jack grew more serious—did he start genuinely considering following through with it.
Which is why he was here at this pastry shop gawking at the big cases full of cakes, looking a little bit lost.
There were a ton of varieties of both alpha and omega cake, ranging widely in terms of sizes and pricing. Usually when confronted with sweets Rhys could figure out what he was craving pretty quickly, but considering he’s supposed to give this to Jack he’s getting a little bit flustered. Traditional alpha cake—as he’d learned browsing through websites on his way here—is dense and kind of heavy, stuffed with nuts and dried fruit and occasionally ingredients like carrot shavings, banana, or chocolate chips.
All the cakes in the case look a lot fancier than the ones that Rhys had seen earlier. Most are topped with a delicate frosting and topped with clean, artful designs sprinkled with cinnamon. Some even have the alpha symbol delicately drawn in chocolate designs or pretty, autumn-colored flowers poking out from the top. Rhys swallows, hands pressed up against the glass. What if he gets something Jack thinks is stupid? Or—oh no—what if Jack doesn’t even like alpha cake and this stupid gesture ends up all for nothing?
He knows Jack likes his coffee black and his burgers medium-rare, and has a soft spot for that little Truxican spot that always resists every major makeover of the Hub, but they’ve never talked about what kind of cake they each like before. What’s he even doing here? This is probably a huge mistake.
Rhys is just about to straighten up and go when a short, chubby looking beta—by the scent that wafts over the smell of batter and sugar—enters in from the back room and fixes him with a smile.
“Hey there hun! Can I help you find anything?”
Five minutes later and Rhys is standing outside the pastry shop with a little white bag in hand. Inside the bag sits an individual-sized alpha cake, with a message piped ontop at no extra charge.
“To the most handsome alpha this side of the galaxy.” His cheeks already burn looking at it. Why had he let the employee talk him into this? He should’ve just left it blank. Now it feels like he’s setting himself up for something.
His stomach flips a little with anxiety. He lets out a sigh, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
Oh well. Best to just get it over with.
When the security door to Jack’s penthouse opens, Rhys is immediately hit by the smell of sugar and baking.
He furrows his brows as he crosses over the threshold, noticing Jack’s shoes by the door and his jacket on the rack. He switches the cake bag from hand to hand as he shrugs off his vest and wiggles off his shoes, placing them besides Jack’s. He tiptoes towards the kitchen, steps quieted by his socks, curious.
Jack’s presence isn’t all that strange. Rhys has caught him cooking and baking before, sometimes even at odd hours of the night or early in the morning. He’s been surprised with breakfast several times since moving in, and occasionally on his day off he’ll go out into the dining room to find a basket of popovers sitting on the table alongside a dish of butter and jar of fancy jam. Jack’s cooking habit is something Rhys would have never expected from the CEO, but it’s one of those little positive things he’s discovered about his hero since actually dating him.
But right now as Rhys watches from the doorway he can see Jack putting the finishing touches on a huge cake artfully slathered in fresh cream and topped with strawberries. He looks so focused, tongue stuck out from between his lips, that Rhys almost feels bad interrupting, but the surprise at exactly what Jack’s making forces him to speak up.
“Is…is that omega cake?”
Jack jumps slightly at the nose, turning to Rhys just as he puts himself between his boyfriend and the cake. His eyes widen, a bluffing smile crawling over his face.
“What? No—I—what’s omega cake? Sounds like something super dumb and corny…”
“Jack…” Rhys sighs, shaking his head as he reaches into the bag. “You don’t have to…I mean…look.”
He pulls his own cake out, embarrassing message at all. Jack’s eyes fall to the container, lips parting slightly in surprise as he reads what it says, takes in what Rhys bought.
“…You’re kidding.”
“Oh my god,” Rhys snickers, relaxed and relieved. “I thought I was going to look so stupid with this but…I can’t believe…how did you get the same idea?”
“Kitten, you know I like to make nice things for you, you should’ve guessed—“Jack steps to the side, finally allowing Rhys to get a better look at the cake. His alpha has a real artistic side. Not everyone can carve strawberries into adorable little blossoms.
There’s even a little message in glossy red on top: “To the best omega in the entire universe.” It makes Rhys feel a little bit better about his own cheesy cake. It makes him feel a little something else too.
“Oh Jack…” Rhys sets his little cake aside to wrap his alpha up in a hug, peppering Jack’s face with affectionate little kisses. His worries from before are totally gone, melted away and leaving him with nothing but happiness. Jack chuckles softly to himself before returning his kisses, meeting Rhys in a particularly long one.
“Looks like we’re gonna be eating plenty of cake for the foreseeable future.” Jack rubs their noses together, his hands creeping around Rhys’ waist. The omega wiggles closer, cheeks flushing.
“Oh, you better believe I’m more than okay with that, mister.”

The Subway chain is offering different varieties of flavors in Subway which are green and loaded with nutrition.

Now, I am not for all this green talk but there is something to be said for the health aspects of the Subway menu as well as the fact that you are eating fresh food which is loads better than the alternative fast food. Maybe, it is all a fad or maybe it is here to stay, I am not certain, but I guess if companies like Subway want to save trees, water, and use less chemicals in cleaning they have every right. Enjoy this post and enjoy the Subway menu - enjoy the Subway diet and let's encourage them to be green. Maybe that will bring more people into the healthy habits that the subway menu encourages - the more the better.
Burgers, pizza, fries all that grease is terrible for everyone and is not good to eat. You can’t have them regularly as these can leave a worst impact on your health condition. For the healthy eating habit, you should go to Subway and feel fresh about it. First, come to the packaging. Even though they use plastic, the little bags are much less an impact on the environment that the average burger bag. As for the way they wrap the sandwiches they use less paper than most burger places and because you are not also grabbing French fries you are skipping the extra cardboard packaging.
Now, let's talk about what Subway call their eco stores. These are stores that are built with energy efficiency in mind. So, less energy use equals an eco-store. Subway encourages energy star approved appliances as well as energy star lighting etc. throughout their network of store. They have their sites on making more eco stores and the problem being that the profit margin on sandwiches is so low they must slowly roll out these programs. Eco stores after all have lower earthly impact but still have quite a long breakeven point. Now here is a little list of little-known facts about Subway and their focus on being green and earth friendly.
Now come to the price of the subway. For daily consumption, Subway sandwiches might be expensive for few people.
