@agentbootyreportingforduty @meelopee After seeing this post I remembered this scene! I know it's Junior carrying Danny but still... I'm sure that had they been younger, and Alex didn't have back pain after all those years of injuries, he'd be the one to do this.

Steve does haul Danny up like it was nothing in the finale when he find him shot though! And there's also that time he grabbed him by the waist to pull him off a suspect and just puts him behind himself (unfortunately the camera is pretty close up so you can only see part of it). Might make a post about the manhandling of Danny...

sorry but why is no one talking about THE LOVE SONG playing when danny dreams of him and steve owing and ruling Steve’s in 8x10??

like its a thing to give us Danny dreaming of his perfect life and it being steve wearing that slutty button up him and steve having their own little paradise. but it’s another to play “Volare” A LOVE SONG when these two are spoon feeding each other while looking in each other eyes like they want to make love at this exact moment.

One little detail that I’ll always love about 8x10 is not only the fact that Danny dreamed about him and Steve growing old together but that Steve was wearing the same crazy socks that Danny always wears 😭 THATS HUSBANDS

- did-did Danny really just organize an intervention for Steve? To make him take better care of himself?? I don't know how to feel about this

- Lou really just said "Steve listen to your husband, he loves you" spoken like a true married man

- kinda gotta agree with Dog, not your finest move Danny

- so can we all agree that Danny losing his mind a little over Steve's radiation poisoning is kinda like the whole Steve losing his mind over Danny retiring thing but in reverse?

- I think Steve has never looked more stressed than with this stress counseler person asking him about his sexlife right in front of danny

- awwww now the end of this episode is in my top 3 favorite heart to hearts these two dorks have ever had

- Danny being honest about being scared that Steve isn't taking his radiation poisoning seriously to the point it keeps him awake at night and steve replying that he's scared too but that he doesn't want Danny to change because he loves him the way he is and that he does take things seriously URHGH

- the dude was killed because he was hiding from a drug cartel that he snitched on and fled with the drug lords daughter, I swear all these people always have the most dramatic backstories

- aaaand steve is doing the dumb reckless thing, Danny my guy I feel you're pain, he is so done with his shit he doesn't even yell at him anymore

- Danny is such a fucking saint, Steve almost went and got himself killed AGAIN and all he cares about is being last and danny husband of the fucking year just goes "yeah yeah you did well let's get a beer maverick"

- damn love Jerry's new haircut

- I will never get tiered of Danny and steve bickering about the restaurant, I know they are setting it up to fail but I genuinely think this could have been a good thing to eventually end the show on, like a retirement thing, but oh well

- aww I love Danny trying to comfort neolani with something Steve told him, only to have it backfire and make him anxious again

- pfffff and tani and junior sit in the far back like literal children

- oh great we're doing the biological warfare stuff again, this should be fun

- so they only have 8 hours to live? sounds like a prime love confession set up to me

- love our respective couples comforting each other, have to say tani and junior are doing a way better job tho like seriously Steve "try not to die while I take this call okay?" that's the best you can do, seriously?

Im on season 4 of a H50 rewatch, because I miss it. Did you notice how in the end of the first episode, where they were sitting in the chairs by the beach, that’s how it ended, as well? OMG, when I realized it, I can’t explain that feeling. And how Grace just loves her Uncle Steve is amazing. I’m trying to remember when the first time she called him that was. Or maybe I’ve read too many fanfics and have now put the two, as one?

Oh man I miss H50 so much it's crazy. I need to go buy the dvd sets so I can watch it any time I want to. I'm about due for my own rewatch.

Ahhh yes!! The parallel of the first and last episodes with the two of them sitting on the beach together KILLS ME! And we can add in the dream sequence Danny has in 8x10 of the two of the sitting on the beach as old men. Danno and Steve. Sitting on the beach together. My favorite thing.

I love Grace's relationship with her Uncle Steve!! He's like a second father to her and i love them. She definitley calls him Uncle Steve in the show and it took some digging and thinking but I'm fairly sure the first time we hear her call Steve "Uncle" is in 1x23 which funny enough is one of my favorite episodes because it's the episode when Danny is poisoned with sarin. Steve picks up Grace from school after Danny is in the hospital and she calls him Uncle Steve then. I think that's the first time we hear it but certainly not the last time! The Aloha Girls camping trip, her homecoming dance, the episode after she gets into her car accident. I know for sure she calls him Uncle Steve in those episodes.

Because I like tiny details, here’s one I noticed while rewatching 8x10 for the billionth time.

This is right when Steve, Tani and Junior come in after being cleared. Look at the clock. It reads, roughly, 2:43 (it’s a little hard to read the hour because of the glare but its closer to the 3 than the 4 so)

Here, when the doc comes out and tells everyone Danny pulled through, the clock reads about 6:15.

Danny was in surgery for at least 3 and half hours most likely more because it takes time to get tested for a virus and it’s obvious that the others had been waiting for a while. Jerry even tells Steve that they’re still working on Danny. So it’s been at least 3 and a half hours, probably longer.

Steve sat through being tested for traces of the virus for god knows how long, then he had to sit in that waiting room for almost 4 hours wondering if Danny was alive, if he was going to be okay. And I think his face here says it all:

This is the face of a man who is going over every single he did in that isolation room, wondering if Danny was going to die despite it, because of it. Thinking about how he can’t lost Danny and feeling guilty for him getting hurt (cause lets be real, Steve always blames himself for things like this). This man, who looked like he was on the verge of tears the entire time they were trapped in the isolation room, is sitting there, for HOURS, praying Danny lives. 

And god bless Kamekona for seeing this and distracting him by talking about his new haircut AND I love that everyone else picked up on that and went along with it. 

Then the doctor comes in and Steve looks like he’s about to be told the worst news and he looks so scared it’s breaking my heart

AND THEN (I’m sorry timeline stuff is my favorite) if we’re going by the transition shot between being told Danny pulled through and Steve asking if he can see him, it took ALL NIGHT before the crew could go see Danny. LOOK! We go from early evening

To evening

To sunrise

To the early morning

To the shot of them all in Danny’s room

I’m 99% sure that Steve barged his way into Danny’s room before then and he probably stayed with him all night. In fact I’m it looks like everyone left the hospital at some point because EVERYONE IS IN A NEW OUTFIT!!! Steve looks like he’s wearing the same shirt but he’s not. I checked. So now I headcanon that one of the others just brought him a change of clothes and his badge and gun (Junior or Lou probably) cause he refused to leave the hospital.

Dream Baby Dream

There was a post recently in which someone commented that it sure would be nice if canon!Steve knew about the hallucinations Danny had after being shot in Episode 8x10.  So naturally I wrote a fic.

McDanno, T, A03

Steve strolls into Danny’s office, not bothering to knock.  “Tani wants us to come look at something, she thinks it’ll give us a break on that case from last week.”

“Fine,” Danny says, pulling his feet down from off his desk.  He should have known better than to think Steve would just let a slow day be a slow day.

“Hey – wait,” Steve says, curious. “What are those?”

“Huh?”  Danny pulls his foot away as Steve goes to grab it.

“Those socks – quite a fashion statement.”  Steve crosses his arms and smirks at him.  “Guess you’ve branched out from ties.”

Danny stands up, his suit pants falling over the aforementioned socks.  They’re both dressed up today, they’ve got a charity event after work.

“Nothing wrong with showing a little style,” he says.  His socks are a bold Kelly green, with a black pattern.  “Anyway, they’re just like the ones you wore to Charlie’s-”  

“What?  I never wore socks like that,” Steve says idly.  “Come on, Tani’s giving us the evil eye,” he says, and the subject is forgotten.

But you did, Danny thinks to himself. He remembers it, clear as day. Steve sitting next to him in that blue suit, legs splayed out in front, bright green socks on, as if to emphasize the celebratory nature of the occasion.  No ordinary socks would do for the day Charlie graduated from the police academy.

Of course Danny knows full well that Charlie is only nine years old.  He hasn’t even said he wants to be a cop when he grows up; this week, he wants to be Captain America.  But Danny remembers his graduation.

 Much later, they take an uber back to Steve’s place.  The event at the governor’s mansion had gone on longer than they expected, and the drinks had been better than expected – or maybe they were just in the mood to drink. The mood hadn’t worn off yet, and so they both decided some more drinking was in order.

 Steve goes upstairs to change, and when he comes back down, he tosses Danny a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. When Danny emerges from the bathroom, Steve is already out by the water, a bucket of beer by his side.

 Danny goes to sit next to him but Steve waves his hand.  “Rinse your feet first, they’re gonna stink.”

 “My feet do not stink,” Danny protests, although they do.

 “The water’s right there, don’t be such a baby.  Although I applaud your decision to lose those socks.”

 “Again with the socks,” Danny complains, hiking up Steve’s too-long sweats and wading into the ocean.  “And for the hundredth time, rinsing something in sea water does not clean it, even if you use your fancy Hawaiian flower shampoo.”

 “It’s not flower shampoo,” Steve says. “It’s made with lychee, that’s a fruit, not a flower.”

 “Potato, potahto,” Danny says, dropping down into the chair next to Steve.  “It smells flowery.”  He frowns at the bottoms of his sweats, which got wet despite his efforts.   “Anyway, you like fun socks, you wear ‘em too.”

 Steve hands Danny a beer.  “I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about,” Steve says.  “Go search my dresser drawers, I do not own a single pair of socks like the ones you had on today.”

 “But you wore them to Charlie’s big day,” Danny argues.  He doesn’t care what Steve says, or how little sense it makes.  He <i>remembers</i> it.  Just like he remembers him and Steve running a successful restaurant (although he’s pretty sure Steve never said “serve ‘em, Danno,”), and Grace all grown up and getting married (this definitely hasn’t happened – but it could).

 “Wait,” Steve says, suddenly giving Danny a look that is far too intense for their tipsy state.  “Did you say ‘Charlie’s big day’”?

 Danny shrugs.  “Yeah.”

 “Danno,” Steve leans towards him, a hand coming to grab at his shoulder.  “What big day?”

 “Forget it.”

 “Is that what you’ve been talking about, with the socks?  Come on, tell me.”

 “It doesn’t make any sense.” Danny tips his head back and sighs. “You won’t believe me.”

 “Try me.”

 Danny stands up, unable to keep still. “I remember Charlie graduating from the police academy, all right?  And you were there with me, wearing this sharp blue suit and green socks.”  He waves his hand up and down at Steve, as if this will cause him to magically understand what he was wearing.  “Tani was there, with Junior – together with Junior. Married, and in charge of Five-0. And Kamekona was the owner of two resorts, although still cheap as hell.  Duke gave a speech, and we all took pictures after.”

 “Sounds really nice.” Steve stands up to join Danny, shoulder knocking against his own.

 “It was a great day,” Danny agrees. It was a great day.  Him and Charlie’s favorite Uncle Steve, so proud of their boy, and all their friends there to witness it.

 “You know,” Steve says slowly, eyes darting away from Danny.  “When Gardner shot you, you were really of out of it.  But you said something about ‘Charlie’s big day’.”

 “I did?”  Danny thinks back, but the whole horrible mess is a blur, just pain and fear and Steve’s voice telling him over and over that he was gonna be okay.

 “Yeah, you did.  The doctor said to keep you talking, I tried to, but-” Steve breaks off, uncharacteristically choked up, and Danny feels his chest contract.

 “You saved my life that day, babe.”

 Steve clears his throat, shaking it off.  “I did mention the part about having to cut you open, right?”  Danny thinks he’s going to joke about it, but then Steve’s voice goes quiet.  “Don’t want to ever have to do that again.”

 They both stand there for a moment, listening to the rustle of the trees as the breeze picks up, and the soft sound of the waves lapping against the sand.  Danny finishes his beer, and turns to get another one.  Steve does too, and they both sit back down, apparently neither of them ready for the night to be over yet.

 “You think those memories I have, of all those good things that haven’t happened yet – you think they were fever dreams, when I was shot?”

 Steve takes a long drink from his beer. “Something like that, yeah, maybe.”

 Danny watches Steve, and he can see the image from his dream clear as day.  Years and years have gone by, but they’re still sitting here on the beach, Steve saying “I love you” and then giving him shit in the same breath.  Still together.

 “Those dreams - you think they’ll come true?”  

 Steve gives Danny a long look, and then gazes back out at the ocean.  “Sure.”

 Danny reaches over and puts his hand over Steve’s where it rests on the arm of the chair.  “Good.”
