I’m on my Kenji bullshit again so I’d like to remind everyone something
His social link is seen through his eyes and no one else’s. The protagonist only knows about his attraction to Ms Kanou through HIS eyes so there’s no clear way to understand what’s really going on.
CW for grooming and me being quite lengthy
however because of Rio’s social link we can view it through her eyes as well, and this allows the protagonist to make up her own judgment
See below in Rank 5 of Rio’s social link.
Note SPECIFICALLY that one of the answers to this is, “Isn’t she just using you?”
In Kenji’s social link, we don’t get questions like this, because Kenji’s interactions with her only seem like mild coincidences. Here, he’s specifically talking about things Ms Kanou wants.
If you ask him this, his reaction is as follows.
While yes he has an infatuation with her, she’s clearly using that to get what she wants.
And then he says:
This is a red flag. To anyone else, doing a small favour for a teacher would be fine. Getting tickets seems a bit unusual as it’s out of school but it seems harmless. Then why does Kenji want to keep it a secret? In his social link, he literally says he’s perfectly willing to marry Ms Kanou. Yet here, he wants to keep it a secret?
And then in rank 6 we get this:
Rio literally believes them to have such a close enough relationship they’ll start dating. This is completely nonexistent in Kenji’s social link. In fact, what was going on? Why were they alone together?
Is this all because of a potential difference in the male and female protagonist routes?
The answer is: yes. Because unlike the male protagonist route, there’s no social link between Kenji and the protagonist. He has no one to confide in about Ms Kanou. She doesn’t leave the school. He’s a loner. He’s vulnerable.
The reason why Kenji acts this way in the female protagonist’s route is, because without a good friend by his side, Ms Kanou takes advantage of the fact he likes her. There is clearly an established relationship between them that doesn’t exist in the male protagonist route.
This is literally grooming. It’s unclear if she tried to groom him during the male protagonist route, especially with her transfer. Since this transfer doesn’t happen due to story events, it is clear that this is due to what’s going on between the two.
I don’t have a real way of closing this off. However, please please please don’t treat Kenji as a one dimensional character. Please. He’s just a normal teenager. And his relationship with Ms Kanou is clearly not healthy or normal by any means, but not in the way most people will paint it.

Sighh hey everyone welcome back to Hänsel Analysis, the series where I analyse stuff. Today I’m finally plucking up the courage to publish this analysis and go: Yeah um Fish & Oswald is really unhealthy as a mother/son dynamic and I don’t think it should have been pushed in S3 the way it did.
This isn’t a question of “boohoo you just want Oswald to suffer more”, it’s a genuine question of how Fish treats him. I think their interactions in season one are especially proof of this. You cannot examine Fish and Oswald’s relationship in just season three. Season one is vitally important as it sets up:
A: Their characters and their already established relationship
B: The dynamic upon which the two will see each other throughout the show’s run
It is impossible to judge how Fish treated Oswald prior to the series but it is shown to be an extreme and cruel power imbalance, especially given how they interact throughout this season.
The first time Oswald is seen in the show is during the pilot episode where Fish reprimands him for not covering her with his umbrella, as per his job. Oswald apologises and moves over to her. She doesn’t refer to him by his name in this scene, just calling him “boy”. The first time his name is muttered is by Butch, who seems to be much friendlier to him than in later in the series, given his jovial tone with him. But this isn’t about Butch.
I want to talk a bit about the concept of an umbrella boy. There is no such term as an umbrella boy. However given Oswald’s role in the pilot episode, it can be considered akin to a personal servant, which explains his tasks such as the foot rubbing later on.
Oswald’s next interaction with Fish is one of the scenes which openly define him as a character early on as it gives him one of his most prominent traits: his limp. Now this scene does go through a lot of things. Therefore, let’s go over each of the events in this scene.
The scene begins with Fish laughing over a terrible comedy act in the nightclub while Oswald sits in the background. Oswald refills her drink while she’s on the phone to Bullock before sitting in the background again. While he’s sitting there, note how he doesn’t move at all. He’s just sitting there, as if waiting for another command.
After the phone call, Oswald comes back to refill her drink. Fish responds, “bless your heart” and asks him to rub her feet. Oswald goes to do so. While he does, Fish casually talks to him about her plans. This small piece of dialogue cements the idea of the mother/son relationship between the two.
Fish: And you? You’re like a son to me. You know that, Oswald? Oswald: I feel that way also.
Right after this quote, Fish reveals that she knew that Oswald betrayed her. While she starts revealing this information, you can see Oswald’s grip slowly loosening.
Fish: Why would you betray your mother? Oswald: I… I don’t know what you mean.
As she keeps talking, Oswald shakes his head. He suddenly stands up and backs away, blaming Butch. Fish stands up as well, saying that Butch wouldn’t as he was loyal. The dialogue that follows is one that can be seriously analysed.
Oswald: So am I! I would open a vein right here and now if you ask me too! Fish: (taking a knife and giving it to him) Go on then. Open one. Oswald: I-I was speaking poetically. Fish: Prove it. Prove your loyalty, my little penguin. Oswald: … please, Miss Mooney. Please, don’t- (Oswald lunges towards. Fish throws a chair at him, knocking him over. While he’s down, she hits him.) Fish: You! Broke! My! Heart!
Does any of that sound motherly to you all?
While you can make the assumption that they do have that relationship but it’s unhealthy and toxic, which I am also presuming, I do think it is tempted by an unhealthy power imbalance. Oswald is already loyal and devoted to his own mother. I don’t think it would make sense for him to see Fish in that way, especially at this point in the story.
There was a lot of emphasis - the way she draws out the words specifically - on her calling Oswald her ‘little penguin’ which is a nickname that remains for her. We’ve already established from an earlier scene how much Oswald hates the name penguin.
Oswald: You know I don’t like to be called that.
‘Little penguin’ does sound more like a pet name than anything else. The specific use of ‘my’ should be noted. Not ‘little penguin’. ‘My little penguin’. ‘My’ is a possessive pronoun. She feels like she controls him. It should also be noted how Oswald reacts specifically to this name. He visibly gets more angry, his mouth closes, and his speech goes from stuttery and pleasant to more collected and dare I say blunt. This isn’t the first time he’s been called that specifically by her. And this reflects in his behaviour.
This scene is important because it is the first time Oswald uses violence as a response to his anger. While he does beat up a man earlier on, this is done quite happily. When he lunges at Fish, this is done fully by anger. He clearly has an emotional response from this which is the reason that he resorts this way. Oswald seemed quite willing to act a pathetic fool before this. It’s only after he hears that specific variation that he snaps.
Honestly I have my own personal beliefs as to the relationship between the two. I don’t think it’s mother-son. I think it’s abuser-victim. Whatever’s going on between the two is clearly not affectionate at all. They utterly despise one another, Oswald even more so at this point in the show. And you do notice on rewatches the way he flinches any time she touches him. When she puts her hand on his shoulder in the season two finale. When she strokes his cheek when rescuing him from the greenhouse in season three. I’ll expand on these traits as this goes on.
Penguin's Umbrella is the next episode in which the two meet with each other during which Maroni meets with Fish. As Oswald betrayed her, Fish demands him back. Maroni calls Oswald over from the room where he was in, to which Oswald peers out hesitantly.
Maroni: Don’t be scared. She won’t bite. You won’t bite him, will you?
Oswald goes to stand next to Maroni. Maroni explains the disrespect Oswald caused and asks for an apology. Oswald does so but Fish doesn’t believe him and decides on bloodshed.
Fish: And you? (turns to Oswald) You little scaly-faced bitch. (takes a breath) What I’m going to do to you. Torture is far too nice of a word. Oswald: I’m sorry you feel that way, Fish. (She slaps him and then grabs his chin.) Fish: Only my friends call me Fish. (lets him go and leaves)
Oswald maintains a politeness throughout this scene up to his last line here, referring to and calling her as Miss Mooney, as he did as an umbrella boy (read: servant). He is arguably not afraid of her around much more powerful individuals, such as Maroni. Despite this, he will constantly call her Fish from this time onwards. I personally think it symbolises a growth in Oswald’s character. In What the Little Bird Told Him, when Oswald is saying hello to Fish he takes care to draw it out, “Ffffffish”, before chuckling.
It’s hard to tell how genuine Oswald’s emotions are around specific individuals, due to his manipulative personality. However it’s very clear that the scene that, personally, defines Oswald’s fear of her as very genuine is in Welcome Back, Jim Gordon.
Oswald’s storyline in this episode begins very nicely for him, with him showing his mother around his new nightclub - in reality it’s just Fish’s nightclub, given to him. Regarding this scene, it’s very comforting but at the same time there is a sinister note in the background. Something is going to happen. And it does.
Later on in the episode, Oswald closes the nightclub. Slightly stressed from having his mother there, he starts drinking. The first thing he does? Go over to the skeleton fish on the wall, raise his bottle in celebration, drink, and then spit his drink onto it. A montage follows, with Oswald clearly very happy. This fun is broken when he gets up on stage and delivers a mock introduction speech to his nightclub. There’s a sudden sound of mild applause and he stops, seeing Fish and Butch. He immediately looks terrified, gulping.
After Fish returns, the scene that follows begins with Oswald kissing her shoes. Foot kissing as a while is a display of power and dominance. Merely looking up articles and news stories on it show it being used in this way, especially in a manner of discrimination. While Oswald himself isn’t in a minority group (while he is queer, this fact was yet to be shown in the series), the general impression given is that this is derogatory and dehumanising. The rest of this particular scene merely points out that Fish doesn’t see him as a person. He even goes back to calling her Miss Mooney at the beginning.
Fish: Me? Work with you? I found you. I made you! When you walked in here, you were a sad little wannabe. Remember that, Butch? You were so afraid. Butch: Shook like a leaf in Fall. Fish: You’re a servant. An umbrella boy. A nobody. Oswald: This nobody still outfoxed you at every turn. I was working for Falcone the whole time! And you didn’t have the sense to see it! (Fish raises the bat she’s holding but is interrupted by a gunshot.)
This scene does confirm Oswald’s personality prior to the events of the series. He was a scared man who wanted to be part of something bigger, even the mob. Furthermore, this scene confirms that the term umbrella boy is an equivalent to servant.
Finally we reach the finale of season one.
Fish: What did you do to that poor soul, you sadist? Oswald: I assure you- Fish: You will die a slow painful death on account of Butch. (After this Oswald can be heard breathing heavily.)
Throughout the entirety of the time he is hung up he is unnerved and quite fearful, looking around, mainly at Fish.
After he does break free, he goes straight after Fish after gaining a gun. We all know the rest. He chases her up the rooftop and starts a physical fight with her. Butch comes up and the two start ordering Butch to shoot the other. Butch shoots them both before running over to Fish. Oswald gets up and hits Butch. With that Oswald pushes her off the ledge to her death.
Season three is a bit weird when it comes to the two of them. Personally I think it could have been done well if an objective of such a storyline was healing from trauma. Look at it this way. It’s already established how much Oswald hates and fears Fish considering the high bounty he places on her. It’s also established that throughout season three that Oswald is dealing with trauma. Specifically, everything happening with Ed. He doesn’t have a chance to mentally recover and such resorts to violence immediately, especially from a storyline perspective where he’s been carrying the weight of everything that’s happened to him in the show and just moves on without addressing it. His relationship with Fish could have been done as a storyline of healing from trauma, and I think that’s definitely how it should have been done.
Here we come to the season 3 episode Burn the Witch. Oswald takes a gun and goes looking for Fish in the woods as arranged by Gordon.
Oswald: Just old friends. Fish: Oswald- Oswald: Don’t call me that! My name is Penguin!
Oswald’s reversal in the name he uses is slightly important to note as he has now embraced the name since Fish was gone. Penguin used to be a name that he hated, especially under Fish’s command. Now he has truly embraced it and reclaimed it for himself.
Oswald: Do you know how long I’ve been looking for you? How long I’ve waited for this very moment? Hugo: Mr. Cobblepot- Oswald: Quiet! Fish: So this is it. I spare your life, and you shoot me dead in the woods like an animal. Oswald: Pretty much, yes!
At this point in time Oswald is very willing to kill her all over again. He doesn’t care about anything she has to say - he knows better as a person, he doesn’t want to be under her thumb.
Oswald: But I will admit… that night under the bridge stayed with me. Why? Fish: Why what? Oswald: Why didn’t you kill me? I have gone over that night a thousand times and it doesn’t make any sense. Why didn’t you kill me? I would have killed you in an instant!
Again, reiterating how Oswald is much more bold to her now. He’s standing up for himself as well. Of course the last thing he needs to know before he kills Fish is why she spared him. The two spent the entirety of the first season at odds and then at war against each other.
Oswald: ANSWER ME! Fish: Because you’re mine.
Immediately after she says this, you can see Oswald look scared and his hand shakes even more. I am once again noting the possessive pronoun here. “My” versus “mine”. Present tense mine as well. Fish still feels control over him. Of course she does elaborate on this.
Fish: You were my umbrella boy, remember? You rubbed my feet when they were tired. And now look at you. The terror of Gotham. Everything I’ve done in my life, possibly the best thing was turning Oswald Cobblepot into the Penguin. I couldn’t destroy that. Ask him. (gestures at Hugo) He understands what it is to bring something into being. It is a part of you… forever.
At this Oswald looks down and then back up, before saying “Goodbye Fish. Don’t come back.” Fish and Hugo leave, leaving Oswald on his own. He smiles briefly. Just before the blackout you can hear Oswald’s theme start playing and him starting to cry, or breathing deeply depending on how you view the sounds.
Now I want to iterate on some of Fish’s lines here. Out of everything she mentions when it comes to Oswald’s tasks as umbrella boy, the one she picks out is the foot rubbing. Of course this is symbolic of Oswald gaining his limp from the first episode, it is an important scene. However this does imply that this happened more than once. As a servant to her, is this truly the thing she wants to remember of him? It feels slightly off. Now I’m not going to imply anything because of it, I’m merely pointing it out.
Back in Welcome Back, Jim Gordon, Fish used the quote “I made you” to discuss how she got him into the inner circles of the mob to begin with, and she is repeating that with his title as King of Gotham’s underworld. Therefore he will feel obligated to think everything he is is because of her, not his own abilities.
Her last line as well, “It is a part of you forever.” She’s basically telling him that he cannot escape her. He will always feel her presence. Now you can say that she here is talking about the fact he is the Penguin, which would confirm Oswald’s own reclamation, but given the structure of this dialogue it wouldn’t make sense chronologically. If she wanted to imply that, that sentence would have gone right after “I couldn’t destroy that” and the dialogue would still make sense. Putting that sentence after talking about how something is brought into being just implies that Fish wants control over him because she was the one who brought him down this path.
The whole controlling nature of Fish and Oswald just running back to her at this point is very much a trauma bond kind of relationship. I can’t see a way in which it isn’t. Though Oswald despises her, and this is shown quite regularly up to this point in time, he still feels an obligation under her.
Then we reach the episode Pretty Hate Machine. Ed, Barbara, Tabitha and Butch come into the greenhouse to kill Oswald. During this scene Fish interrupts.
Oswald: Fish. Fish: … hello Oswald. Now see that there? That’s a look of respect. Or is it fear?
She’s clearly talking about Oswald here.
Oswald: Why are you here? Fish: You shall see. As for you, (looking at Ed) whoever you may be, please excuse us. (turning back to Oswald and touching his cheek) My little penguin and I will be leaving.
As they leave, Oswald can be heard heavily breathing again.
Also I do want to note how Oswald’s first reaction to her touching him is to immediately flinch away.
Again there is the use of ‘my little penguin’. The possessiveness has just come back, as well as the callback to the first episode. This feels less though like a nostalgia trip and just Fish asserting her domination. Oswald got in trouble, Fish had to get him out of trouble, he needed her to survive in that scene. He can be seen still as just a pathetic servant under her eyes.
I don’t want to talk about the writing in Destiny Calling. I definitely don’t think it was done well. The fact Oswald does an entire U-turn and starts working with Fish without even showing any contempt towards her feels wrong and again I will state it works a lot better under a concept of healing from trauma.
Oswald: We’re partners. Hugo: But you tried to kill her. Oswald: And she forgave me! I know! Surprised me too.
But regardless of how strange it comes across from a plot perspective. The point of this analysis is to explain how the entire relationship between Oswald and Fish is not a good one like most people think. There’s a lot going on, and while it can definitely be perceived as an unhealthy mother-son relationship, I think it’s also fair to acknowledge Fish’s straight up abuse of him. If Oswald can get revenge on Hugo for torturing him in Arkham, I think it is only right that he can kill Fish a second time.

Exploring Storyboard Techniques and Animation Software
Storyboarding is an essential phase in the animation and filmmaking process, as it visually represents a planned story. Storyboard creation means drawing scenes in terms of panels where each panel completes a sequence according to the movie's script. These frames are rough outlines of the character positions, their actions, and the direction the camera has to move, essentially drawing out a shot-by-shot sequence exposition. However, further analysis of an effective storyboard entails eclipsing some aspects of movie making in that it factors in montage, shot list, composition, and timing. Moreover, storyboards can contain annotations such as sound effects, dialog, and the transition or any other component of the production process so that all aspects will be adequately synchronized and perfectly complement each other.
As mentioned above, many storyboard and animation software solutions are available and can be tailored to different experiences and the characteristics of a particular project. Toon Boom Storyboard Pro – a professional software that enables the creation of detailed, cinematic storyboards; Adobe Animate – designed for creating storyboards with detailed animation elements; Storyboard That – an online tool with the possibility of creating high-quality stories. These may include options, a drawing tool, and others allowing the user to add annotation and timing information. Depending on the requirements of a particular project, tasks, and goals – the level of the program's difficulty, the type of drawing, and the detail can vary. Simple tools seem suitable for a start, such as the Storyboard That; for those who love innovative features, there is the Toon Boom Storyboard Pro. When choosing software, one has to consider several aspects like usability, integrability with other tools or applications, and available assistance and guidelines to create background or foreground animations that would improve and save time in the production stages.
This is the storyboard I initially drew for the project, and have since redrawn

Thanks for the analysis! It’s an enjoyable read. But what I meant with Riliane and Allen was that they had Hänsel and Gretel’s bodies, right? And if the her gene resided in the body, they would have been hers. But they aren’t, therefore the gene is in the soul(evidenced by the Ney situation also). I wasn’t clear enough lol sorry!
This just came to me but Maria was an HER, right? Throughout the series, we see that once someone has HERS it's impossible to cure them unless there is a Held inheritor at hand. Or they get amnesia but that doesn't even get rid of the syndrome itself. It is also clear to see that HER is in the soul/spirit data. Like how Irina is an HER for centuries(Maria is also her reincarnation so) or how Riliane and Allen weren't HERs despite the fact that they were supposed to be reincarnations of Hänsel and Gretel. Etc. Etc.
Anyway, since Maria is Irina's reincarnation she should also be an HER, right? Well yes, but actually...no?
I's mentioned several times that Maria worked to exterminate HERs. It's actually why she invited Seth to work as a scientist for Levianta, and no I'm not going to talk about the irony of that. Also, she's possibly a Held inheritor, @seths-wife once made a post about it actually. And it seems implied in the text as well.
Maria also wants to "Bring true salvation to this world" (-quote from The Karma of Evil Will Not End) but the goal of HERs is to destroy the world. Which Irina(aka Maria) states in the duel of Merrigod Plateau("And that pathogen is ‘programmed’ to destroy everything related to the gods. They themselves, and—the world that they made." -Fifth, Pierrot)
What I'm trying to say here, is that Maria is a HER who wanted to destroy HERs and was also a Held inheritor, who could cure HERs? Even more than that, she wants to save the world but states that the purpose of her existence is to destroy it? Like??
It's hilarious how Irina manages to contradict herself in every way possible.

After popping into @bellaagates ’s chat I have realized you guys might not know what this is 😂
This is my dissertation, basically the work that lets me finish my three years of university and gives me my first “laurea”, which is sort of a degree? I really don’t know how it’s called it in English, but yeah, it’s that thing you receive when you finish university.
The big writing in all caps in the middle is the title of my dissertation, Contrastive Analysis of the Feminine Figure of the Witch in the Fairy Tales of Russian-Slavic Tradition and in Western Culture (basically centered on the comparison and contrast between the Baba Yaga in Vasilisa the Beautiful and the Hexe in Hänsel and Gretel). The rest is technical details such as the name of my University, my department, name of the curriculum I’ve chosen (International Studies/Processes) and the number of my class (that I’ve never known before filling out this cover haha).
The only thing I have left is a sort of discussion in front of a committee where I will present my “research”” to receive a sort of final grade before leaving university.
OMG YOU GUYS !!
This nightmare finally has a body!!
Now I’m just terrified of the day I’ll have to discuss it in front of a committee (in two weeks, gah), but then I’ll be free 😭
Sorry for the shitty picture, I’m just too excited hahaha

Welcome back to this whole analysis business. Today we’re talking about Alan Partridge and his repressed bisexuality. He’s definitely an interesting character to talk about when it comes to his attitudes with anyone queer!
I’ve probably missed out other stuff, or gotten things wrong, so if that’s the case, feel free to add on or correct me!
It is no surprise to anyone that has seen the Alan Partridge franchise that Alan in his early days is a bigot. He occasionally followed remarks with “and please don’t write in saying that is [discrimination], it’s not” and has a general very dislikable attitude towards those that are minorities. Later on in the franchise he does adopt a much more polite attitude, though keeps quite a bit of stereotypes when discussing minority groups.
His attitude towards queer people, however, is very interesting. Alan describes himself as a “homoskeptic” - thinly veiling homophobia - and acts negatively towards Glen Ponder when he finds out he’s gay. Alan has also shown transphobia, such as dismissing a trans woman on KMKYWAP - though in more recent shows he seems to have become more relaxed.
However despite this open attitude, Alan has a lot of telling facts about him that hint towards the fact he is heavily repressed in his own sexuality.
Let’s talk first about his attitude to trans people. In the I'm Alan Partridge episode Watership Alan, it is revealed Alan watched a short bit of a porno film titled “Bangkok Chickboys” to which he denies to the staff of the hotel. As the conversation goes on, it becomes more and more obvious that Alan watched this on purpose.
Now it’s important to understand the meaning of “chickboy”. Chickboy in this refers to the term kathoey. In English it has two meanings - trans women or effeminate gay men. In Thailand, the term can also mean being intersex.
Another thing of note is that the term is also named “ladyboy” and this is how they are referred to throughout the series. It is made very clear that the meaning of “ladyboy” to Alan is trans women. Alan seems to express some sexual interest, if the above example and his fascination suffice.
—
One of the biggest mysteries of I'm Alan Partridge is what is in the drawer of Alan’s desk.
Episode 1: Lynn: For example, in this drawer… (opens the drawer and pauses, shocked) You, er… you have, er, things, and um… sometimes, you have too many things. (Later in the conversation) Alan: They were there when I moved in.
While Armando Iannucci says that the contents of Alan’s drawer are of magazines of fat women on the toilet (in Dutch) this doesn’t really seem to make sense given Alan’s disgust of “water sports”.
Steve Coogan, Alan’s actor, says in contrast in the commentary for the show that the contents of the drawer is a plastic cock.
However it should be important to know that it was never decided what was really in the drawer. Honestly it’s completely up to interpretation of the viewer, though it very much leans towards something that implies Alan’s repressed sexuality.
Throughout season 1 of IAP, Alan has daydreams where he is acting as a stripper for someone important, most of the time Tony Hayers. Alan seems perfectly willing to let himself act this way in these daydreams, despite the fact that in the real world he has a clear hatred for these people.
Episode 1: Daydream Alan: Would you like me to lap dance for you? Daydream Hayers: (offers money) Daydream Alan: Nuh-uh. I want a second series.
Alan seems to also have some kind of celebrity crush on Roger Moore. He notes him in KMKYWAP as his favourite Bond actor and keeps a framed picture of him in his room at the Travel Tavern. It is also revealed that he keeps this portrait of Moore in his daydreams.
One thing that’s important to know regarding Alan’s sexuality is his relationship with Michael.
While Michael never refers to Alan other than “Mr Partridge” and Alan treats Michael with some disdain, the two have a notably strong bond, with Alan even calling him a friend.
In This Time, we look at Alan’s photo gallery. While his gallery contains photos of, among several things, pictures of Noel Edmonds and Alan posing with a car, one of the photos in Alan’s gallery is Michael, followed by a drawing of him.
The fact there’s a drawing of Michael is very telling. Michael tended to not have any real friends apart from Alan, so it can be implied this is Alan’s own drawing of Michael. But then, why did Alan draw Michael? It seems a tad odd.
When Alan and Michael finally reunite after the latter being missing for a decade in From the Oasthouse, Alan is clearly very happy to see him.
Alan: Oh my god. It’s ringing. I think I might have solved it. … nah, he’s absolutely going to hate- Hello? Michael: Hello? Alan: Michael? Michael: Aye. Alan: Oh my god, oh my god- Michael… it’s- it’s- it’s Alan. […] Michael: Oh hello Mr Partridge! Alan: Yeah, that’s me! Yeah! I knew you’d remember! Michael: Aye. Alan: I- oh my god, I can’t believe I’m talking to you. Michael: Aye. Alan: I can’t believe I’m actually speaking to you. […] Alan: It’s actually you. You didn’t drown then! Michael: Me? No. Alan: Are you alright? Michael: Aye. Alan: Oh I’m glad because we- we used to have fantastic chats didn’t we? […] Alan (after the call is over): Ah, that was amazing. I got goosebumps again now.
While Alan has had friendships (Simon) and rivalries (Simon & Clifton), Michael is the one friend he’s had permanently over his time in the franchise, and is one of the few main recurring characters - alongside Lynn.

Anyway thanks for reading my lil analysis on this silly little pathetic guy /aff. Hope you enjoyed reading, and I hope it gave you something to think about.

Next up in my semi popular series Hänsel Analysis, where I analyse characters and such that are normally underrated or unpopular or just interesting, we’re talking Kaspar Blankenheim.
Kaspar is a bit of a unique case here as he never gets any proper screen time. He has no lines of dialogue and we never see him while he’s alive. We know that he cheated a lot, that he took advantage of Margarita for her money, and that he was among the first she ever poisoned with Gift.
Seems a bit of an asshole, doesn’t he? You’re right. Yet of course we should try and interpret more of Kaspar’s past to understand what makes him the way he is. Maybe make a good interpretation of this blue haired bastard.
Speaking of blue haired bastards, let’s address the elephant in the room. We know that Margarita - the real one - died at birth, and was replaced by the Clockworker’s Doll, at the time occupied by Eve Moonlit. We know “Margarita” was drawn to Kaspar due to his similarities to Adam. Yet did you know this is the only time in the series when Eve - by herself - is drawn to an Adam lookalike? Platonic, though replaced by Eve, shows no intrigue in Carlos. Mikulia Calgaround never met an Adam lookalike. Michaela, though an Eve lookalike, was not replaced by Eve, though Kyle, an Adam lookalike, did fall in love with her. So why here in particular does Eve and an Adam lookalike have this connection? Is it because of the wooden ring? Whatever the reason, there is some connection between Margarita and Kaspar.
There are several OSS characters and references floating around at this point though:
Kaspar - Adam lookalike Margarita - Eve replacement Mayrana - follows the Meta sect Lemy - Hänsel reincarnation “Ney” - Gretel’s identity Julia - Irina's identity Hanne - Elluka’s identity
As well as some Pride Arc references:
Gatt - descendant of Gast Rin - Riliane lookalike
Back with Kaspar though. It’s very obvious that Kaspar must have had insecurities. To backtrack on his past, his father Kaidor murdered his mother for cheating on him when presumably Kaspar was still extremely young. After that, Kaidor ran away, and Kaspar was taken in by his uncle Karl, who became Marquis himself.
Did Kaspar know he was adopted? If no, then he would have been prideful. If yes, he would have been bitter towards his true father. Either way works. We know very little about Kaspar’s teenage years, however it must have felt extremely lonely. The only named friend we know he had is a fellow Marquis called Cle Mence who attends his funeral. You could make the case that Kaspar in general had difficulties in speaking with people and kept to higher classes, which explains his friendship with Cle as well as his several marriage candidates.
I would say he takes a lot for granted as he entrusts Margarita to do everything around the mansion, he is indeed a spoiled rich boy. Though here’s something telling. Kaspar does have elements of the three chronological sinners so far. He presents lust in the several mistresses he has, gluttony in how he wastes his fortune on cigars and luxuries, and pride in his general brazen attitude. Of course he also embodies greed, though it is interesting how he incorporates the earlier sins as well.
His attitude towards Père Noël is also interesting. Upon joining, we know that he owns Grim the End, and hands it over to Irina. Of course, Grim the End is the residence of Seth and - well - Adam. Kaspar has had the soul of Adam in his possession the entire time. There is no way in the Hellish Yard that he wasn’t somewhat aware of the true power of Grim the End. We’ve seen characters be influenced by the vessels before and after this, and we have Lemy at the same time speaking with Gretel through the Glass of Conchita. It is entirely possible, of course, that he had been manipulated through Seth and Adam depending on how long he’s owned the key. Grim the End appears to be Kaspar’s own possession considering he sells off Margarita’s, so you can assume he’s had it for a long time. Well, it was Kaidor’s himself, so of course he has.
Kaspar generally doesn’t have a lot to go off from. But he isn’t just some character you hear about once and disappears forever. There is a story, a substance towards him. A loneliness feeding on despair that leads to sin if you think about it that way. He isn’t someone to be pitied. But at the same time he can be interpreted as a very intriguing character.
And give him some dialogue, mothy, don’t be a coward.

I want to ramble about William Black/Scythe here (I’m so sorry to all my moots who know nothing about Fable)
He’s quite a tragic character when you really dig into him. First of all, he’s soulless. He’s been soulless for centuries on centuries. And the reason he’s soulless is because he saved Albion from the Court by using the Sword of Aeons. Now, the effects of not having a soul have seem to worn him down immensely. While, yes, he was the first Archon, I reckon he wasn’t the most stable ruler, especially with his children being anti-Heroes, if you were (I’ll see myself out). He became ill, and I seriously think that without a soul it made him much more susceptible to this illness - later the Corruption. The illness made him appear much more like a mummy than a human being no matter his immortality. Of course I’m just summarising at this point. But this illness must have taken root where his soul would have been. Scythe as a character is blunt and snarky. He’s seen centuries of pain and anguish, and it’s made him a bitter person. This kind of makes me think that he’s unable to feel positive emotions due to his lack of soul.
But quite frankly I think William is lonely. He’s never had an actual connection to anyone, and if he did, they’d be cut away brutally or tragically. His children became horrible people, to the point where he ran away from the kingdom he ruled. Nostro was his apprentice, the man who founded the Heroes Guild, but he died in Scythe’s company.
The Scythe-Nostro relationship is really interesting to me, because after Nostro dies, Scythe disappears again. He’s devastated. Even though Nostro was corrupted and Scythe was disgusted by his actions, he came back to keep him company as he died. It’s very telling of Scythe’s character - he came to care for Nostro. Take this sentence from Tales of Albion: Scythe with warm affection told Nostro of the good things he had done in his life. This seems completely out of character for Scythe at first, until you remember how he must have felt like an outsider all his life. It’s a telling master-apprentice relationship.
Unpopular opinion, but I think having Scythe take care of Rose in the Love choice of Fable 2 is a really good option, and a really interesting dynamic. Rose has experienced pain on the streets of Bowerstone Old Town, and Scythe has a disappointment in his children for what they became and how they destroyed the Old Kingdom. Looking after Rose could teach him to open up more, and experience a life that he could never have had among Heroes or even the normal villagers. In Rose’s letter she describes Scythe as “very thin and wears a hood and looks scary, but he's nice and I feel safe with him here”, which proves this. Scythe also has Rose’s best interests at heart, as Rose closes the letter with “we'll [Rose and Sparrow] be together again one day. He promised me”.
And honestly, I think Scythe’s only goal at this point is to die. He’s had centuries of suffering and seeing Albion in turmoil. The reason we haven’t seen him since the days of the Hero of Oakvale is because he’s fed up. He’s searching for some way to die. The description of his warhammer says that it's foretold that he will return to Albion. But this just raises questions. If he’s not in Albion, where is he? Searching for something he cannot find.
In conclusion, Scythe is one of the more complex characters in the Fable universe. While he may not have changed himself completely like Reaver, or became a constant presence to our three protagonists like Theresa - our other two immortal characters - Scythe is someone with so much overlooked depth. Maze was correct when he described him as a shell. Yet at the same time he has been locked in that shell since the battle with the Court.

I’m having thoughts that are totally normal so here’s another Hänsel Analysis - this time on the character version of Christopher Morris as seen in The Day Today and Brass Eye:
Due to the nature of the source, this analysis talks about subjects such as pedophilia and drug use.
The Outwards Nature of Christopher Morris
Christopher Morris, often called Chris, is the main newscaster of The Day Today news show, the main presenter of the Brass Eye current affairs show, and one of the main characters in both series. He is presented as a brash, overzealous and harsh man, who is perfectly willing to insult his guests and fellow presenters.
He seems to have an obsession with facts and the truth, as a recurring element in The Day Today regards his interest in facts. “And from this we know from this that fact x importance = news”, “Slamming the wasps from the pure apple of truth”, etc. He is furthermore a casual user of heroin.
From episode 5 of The Day Today and from episode 6 and the special of Brass Eye, we also know Christopher is the father to a boy and a girl - the boy is named Johnny while the girl is unnamed. He doesn’t appear very well to be married, and if he is, then he’s unfaithful, as he flirts with fellow correspondent Valerie Sinatra, and kisses sports correspondent Alan Partridge.
History
Nothing is known of the backstory of Christopher Morris, though guesses can be made. Christopher himself describes himself as stable, educated, and middle class in episode 2 of Brass Eye. He is oblivious to the nature of childhood trauma and at times has no idea of how to properly approach it - such as in episode 4 of Brass Eye. In episode 2 of Brass Eye, Christopher goes on to say that his heroin use could easily have become an addiction. This combined with his harsh and serious nature implies that Christopher didn’t have a good childhood, and most likely suffered by growing up too quickly - his use of heroin could be used to distract from how he feels from his past or as a way to rebel.
Sexuality
Christopher’s sexuality is a very confusing one to pin down. He has rarely shown any actual attraction to anyone. While he does flirt with Valerie, it only seems to be a lighthearted joking affair as he immediately straightens up after talking to her. His relationship with Alan is more complicated, as he is one of the few people who Christopher shows genuine kindness to, as well as kissing him.
Christopher: Alan, I’ve gotta say that soccer commentary was brilliant last night. Alan: Thank you. Christopher: It really was. I mean I’m not very interested in soccer but I was totally absorbed and entertained by the whole thing. Great. Tell you what, take a bit of extra time if you want. Do as much as you like on this, I’ll be enjoying this too. Alan: Tonight, we’re going to be looking at self defence- Christopher: Brilliant!
Family
Christopher, as stated before, has two children. If he’s in a relationship, this is never shown on screen, except for in a short scene in episode 6 of Brass Eye where he is seen with his two children and a woman looking happy. However it’s very possible indeed that this is all just his imagination. Episode 6 of Brass Eye is all about decline, specifically about religion. In the beginning of the episode, Christopher talks in a black and white setting about if the country truly is in decline - before the colour returns in an instant and we see him happily with his family talking about if “everything [was] just great”.
The sudden use of colour here is very telling. Christopher sees the world in a very realistic way. He can see the world in greyscale because it’s how he would prefer to see such a dangerous environment. Colour is a stranger to him. Wherever the mother of the children is, she is not there anymore.
Christopher’s own attitude to his children is that of a strange neglect, but at the same time an eccentric way of showing protectiveness. In The Day Today, Christopher talks about how he would have his son clear out to make room for a war orphan, though he never goes through with this. In the 2001 special, he keeps the children locked in the studio to protect them from the fear of pedophiles, having them sleep in cabinets.
Furthermore when one of the pedophile group leaders is captured, Christopher offers him his own son for reasons pretty much unknown. The way Christopher phrases it is odd, and is left shocked after the pedophile tells him he doesn’t fancy his son. In the end there are two logical reasons as to why he could have done this. The first is to test the theory that pedophiles are attracted to all children instantly. The second is to just to confront the man to protect his son. The second does seem more plausible considering what Christopher says afterwards.
Christopher: … good. (chuckles) Actually. You- you prepared to tell the father of a 6 year old that you want to have sex with him on live television. Man: I didn’t! Christopher: You- effectively you did. You did. He did, didn’t he?
Whatever reason you believe, Christopher has some protective elements over his children.

I was looking at Maya’s social link and I found more evidence for this whole thing
Same warnings as before, as well as spoilers for the identity of Maya
So, Maya/Isako’s social link contains events where she complains to the protagonists about the colleagues of her school - one of whom is Ms Kanou of course
And the way she describes her is… suspicious
We know that she’s bragging about her love life from this. But note how Isako/Maya mentions the fact that “some student asked her out” - we know this to be Kenji. The “guy she doesn’t like” is either her current fiancé or someone else. Maya doesn’t mention how she feels about Kenji. However what she does say is that she “acts like it’s nothing”. Again, this is a HUGE red flag. Surely if a student asked you out, as a teacher, you’d be concerned?
What’s also important is the way Maya explains how Ms Kanou acts. “Just give puppy-dog eyes and guys do whatever”. Compare this to what I mentioned earlier, with Kenji’s “she’s so beautiful and mature and sweet that I can’t help but-” line.
Also while rechecking back at Persona 3 as a whole and the social links to offer more evidence for my “The male protagonist is important for Kenji to stop him being groomed” sub-theory, I found another hint. Which social link in the entirety of Persona 3 for the male protagonist is automatically started and cannot be prevented, apart from the story characters of SEES, Pharos, and the Nyx Annihilation Team?
KENJI.
This is important because it proves how important the male protagonist is for him. Nowhere else in the game or even the female protagonist’s route gets Ms Kanou out of the school.
The male protagonist saved him.
