GYG and CYON Reading Challenge- October 2022
Day 1: GYG:All Day Nightmare-. It’s good, all three of the storylines were interesting, and the werewolf one being the best in my view. I loved the premise with you and another kid waking up with no memories in a creepy house. It did have some errors and a few endings are pretty lacklustre. Rating-3/5
Day 2: GYG:Alone in Snakebite Canyon- It’s a good fun adventure story. I preferred the snake eyes storyline to the map storyline. The animal transformations in the former were interesting and used quite well. Rating-3/5
Day 3: CYON:Welcome to Horror Hospital- Had a few creepy moments and endings but nothing much else. The concept had potential but wasn’t really used very well. Rating- 2.5/5
Day 4: CYON:The Toy Shop of Terror- This one is really entertaining, and unique with it being set about Christmas. You definitely feel the sense that your character is in danger with some very dark endings. (I can’t tell if dying by getting your organs pummeled and being suffocated by evil teddy bears is horrifying, pathetic or just really weird.) Also had elves with machine guns. Rating 4/5
Day 5: GYG:Under the Magician’s Spell It’s pretty solid and challenging overall with only two good endings. Does have some annoying gimmicks with some choices being factors the reader can’t control such as the day of the week or time. Rating 3/5
Day 6: GYG:Trapped in Bat Wing Hall- Really memorable and entertaining book. Both storylines were fun to read with some funny moments. The only downside is that there are some parts that feel like filler. Rating 4/5
Day 7: CYON-Bugged Out!- A perfectly serviceable book with a good sense of tension with your character basically being helplessly stuck as a fly. A bit slow to get going but otherwise it’s enjoyable Rating: 3/5
Day 8: GYG: Shop Until You Drop… Dead!- This one is pretty innovative with a non-linear storyline B and requires finding multiple items in order to succeed. It gives the book a very different feel from the other books in the GYG series. The other storylines were also fun but not nearly as good. It did feel rather random at times. Rating: 4/5
Day 9: GYG: Checkout Time at the Dead-End Hotel– Another one I consider very good. It has a creepy atmosphere and some spooky endings. It only has one storyline but it’s written well and has some cool puzzles as well. It does have the dumbest partner character in GYG. Rating: 3.5/5
Day 10: GYG: Lost in Stinkeye Swamp- An enjoyable read with a cool plot twist. I actually find the main good ending in Storyline B kind of sweet. Rating: 3/5
Day 11: CYON: Biting For Blood- It’s pretty generic and not very interesting. It was weird how the story just seems to stop in a lot of endings. However, it’s somewhat saved by some decent writing and spooky moments Rating: 2.5/5
Day 12: GYG: Scream of the Evil Genie- This book is a fun ride with tons of different choices and paths. On the downside, the scares are pretty non-existent with the expectation of one bad ending. Rating: 3/5
Day 13: GYG: Into The Twister of Terror- This book was just a slog to get through. Nothing makes any sense in this book and it never builds up to anything. It's just a boring book with nothing to offer. Rating: 1/5
Day 14: CYON: Castle of Darkness: A pretty meh read overall. It takes a long time for the adventure to actually start and you don’t get to make many choices in this book. On the plus side, the haunted castle stuff is pretty neat and some of the endings are fun. Rating: 2/5
Day 15: GYG: Toy Terror: Batteries Included: This book was really dull with little humour or scares. The storylines were at least coherent and I liked the pig toy that helps you out in Storyline A. Rating: 2/5
Day 16: GYG: Zombie School: This one was really tense with your character being alone and defenceless in this evil school. This one probably has the most brutal bad endings in all of GYG. The plot is well-written and interesting On the downside, there are way too many choices involving factors the reader can’t control such as what day of the week it is. Rating: 3.5/5
Day 17: GYG: The Werewolf of Twisted Tree Lodge: This one was quite satisfying to read with a nice sense of pacing. Some of the endings are great with my favourite being the one where you accidentally delete the whole story. Rating: 3/5
Day 18: GYG: The Creepy Creations of Professor Shock: Another pretty meh read. It’s not very interesting and some of the endings make no sense. The mirror world had some cool ideas and moments. Rating: 2.5/5
Day 19: GYG: You’re Plant Food: A good book with a non-linear storyline like Shop Until You Drop… Dead! Though it’s not as well throught out as that book. I liked the partner character in this book, Kerry. Unlike most partners in the other books, she always has the reader’s back. Some of the choices were good too. On the downside, I didn't find the setting that interesting. Rating: ⅗
Day 20: CYON: The Evil Penpal: It’s an okay book with some cool moments. Billy is a fun villain and the book is fairly humorous. Rating: 2.5/5
Day 21: CYON: Blood Island: It’s an engaging book with some good adventure and horror. Some of the endings and illustrations are pretty violent and bloody. On the downside, I don’t think the stuff with natives was handled very well. Rating: 3/5
Day 22: GYG: Escape from the Carnival of Horrors: It’s a decent book with a good spooky setting of an evil Carnival. However, it felt very clattered and rushed in its writing. Does have some really funny lines through. Rating: 3/5
Day 23: GYG: Escape from Camp Run-For-Your-Life: This book was atmospheric and a pleasant read. The main storylines were interesting to read through and most of the endings were pretty satisfying. I didn’t like how the side story didn’t have any good endings, it kind of felt like a waste of time going through it. Rating: 3/5
Day 24: CYON: Eighth Grade Witch: This book has some good scares but the story was pretty confusing. It was interesting to go through and there were plenty of creepy endings with well-drawn illustrations. Shout out to the ending where spiders crawl out of every orifice of some poor guy’s face. Rating: 3/5
Day 25: GYG: It Came from the Internet: It’s a compelling read with some cool puzzles. A lot of the bad endings are disturbing with the reader’s character basically becoming an empty shell. I liked the virtual reality internet journey and Spyder is a cool monster villain. Rating: 3.5/5
Day 26: GYG: Beware of the Purple Peanut Butter: It’s an okay read with pretty standard storylines. Nothing really stands out as bad or good in this one. Rating: 2.5/5
Day 27: GYG: Ship of Ghouls: This book was strange but was fun to read through. The storylines were entertaining, I liked the tension of trying to survive while stuck on a lifeboat in Storyline B. Rating: 3/5
Day 28: GYG: Welcome to the Wicked Museum: A pretty tense book with some good imagery. The setting is good and there’s always a sense of danger with some pretty dark bad endings. Rating: 3/5
Day 29: GYG: Little Comic Shop of Horrors: An immersive book with a fun comic book setting. There are some pretty funny moments and both storylines were fun to go through. Rating: 3.5/5
Day 30: GYG: Please Don't Feed the Vampire!: A decent book with a few funny moments. The B storyline felt too short and the writing could have been better. Rating: 2.5/5
Day 31: CYON: Attack of the Living Mask: This book was a fun and spooky adventure. There are a good amount of choices and it has a fun Halloween atmosphere. Rating: 3/5

Emblems for independent handler Czeslaw and his pilot Borzoi 69. Technically actually Borzoi 68 because he skipped 13. Czeslaw just counts up every time he loses a pilot.
Czeslaw's emblem choice is partially a pun on the pronunciation of his name.
Borzoi 69's emblem is somewhat ghost-like and the stylized ear floof is a bit like a knight's plume.
Horses and dogs go together with hunting teams.
Am I improving at logo design? hell if I know.
#armored hearts#how many horse and dog motifs can I slam into this comic#the Armored Hearts universe is largely atheistic but this does not stop everyone from having 300 superstitions in a trenchcoat#Chinese merc companies like GYG skip 14 instead of 13#artists on tumblr

One movie scene i feel we don’t talk abt enough is how actually terrified Henry is of the king. Like they toned him down from the queen and he cares about Henry clearly (in his own way and the way Henry needs but yk) And still Henry is so scared
He’s so ready for it and confident and about to tell Philip to fuck off when the king enters and in a second he’s a scared little boy, caving in on himself trying to make himself small, barely able to lift his eyes after he bows his head (also nicholas in this scene…… when i find his cute greek ass……) and yet!!! He’s going to face that fear and stand up both for himself and for the love of his life bc that’s Alex’s brave boy 🫠
it's definitely an interesting thing to think about. like despite them toning it down from the book, i do think it's pretty evident that the king is his abuser. emotional abuse is abuse. and like you said, the way he looks down when the king enters, but also he is looking down before he says "it's all true, grandpa." it's this thing of like CAN your abuser care about you? and how genuine is that care? is the king being kind to henry to get him to shut up? to keep him small and quiet? during their fight he essentially tells alex he has never felt loved or supported, and god knows what that has done to his psyche.
if the king cares abt henry and his happiness, then why was he trying to get him and alex away before they saw the crowds out there supporting them? he ONLY accepts henry going out there because he has already lost and i find that so interesting.
and henry's power in the book and the movie are different, but i really do enjoy his quiet authority and decisiveness in the movie as much as i enjoy his righteous anger in the book. it's like how slightly different situations alter how we react, etc.
sorry for rambling but i was already thinking abt this from writing my fic the other day 😅 literally that's the thing i'm sensitive abt!!!
but anyway, someday nick will accept his russian heritage and be my little anastasia.... make me a russian doll with your woodworking...
#reply#i think i think abt this a lot bc i relate to having an emotionally abusive family#and feeling like you love them and sometimes they love you but#they still hurt you#is a hard thing to wrap your mind around#and i sometimes think wow i could never talk to my family again - but do i want that?#it's so weird#op my aunt is calling as a i type these tags lol gyg

I remember getting annoyed and a bit preachy about how Guzman Y Gomez and Grilld (2 higher-end aussie fast food restaurants) pretend their food is healthy in their marketing, when it's just as full of sugar/salt/carbs etc as any other burger joint or burrito bar. e.g. Grilld pretend that using olive oil instead of vegetable oil makes their FRIED CHICKEN healthy. What they're really selling is an aesthetic of cleanliness, their ingredients are fancy and maybe have some minor health benefits (maybe), so we ignore how laughably unhealthy the food is as a whole.
So, uh, looks like GYG has a new slogan: "clean is the new healthy". I don't know whether to feel vindicated or insulted.
