GWTD Transcript "Most intimidating client ever"

[Entrance to the shop, low angle shot. A large wolf enters. It has dark greyish-brown fur with prominent scars over the right side of its face. Its head is lowered as it steps inside, its gait calm, prowling almost.]

Voice-over: I’ve worked with a lot of clients others thought scary, but today I was reconsidering my job choice.

[Close Up of the wolf's face. It is observing the situation coolly. Its eyes are a prominent light blue, making its gaze even more eerie.]

Groomer in video: At least you actually fit in the shower.

VO: Since you were all so excited about the last video, I decided to invite another one of my werewolf friends. This is Sasha, and if I didn't know him I'd probably have run already. 

[They step into the shower. Sasha sits down while the groomer warms up the water. He licks his lips, observing her closely. He does not move while she soaks his fur, only his ears twitching slightly, but his eyes remain fixed on her.]

VO: The full moon was two days ago so he's in dire need of a little wellness treatment. 

[She puts her hand into his coat, pulling out some loose undercoat.] 

Groomer: You’re not shedding as much as I expected. [pause] I'm not gonna lie, your staring is freaking me out a bit, man.

[Sasha tilts his head slightly, but stops staring at her like a stuffed turkey. She begins soaping him up, her hands vanishing in the thick fur.]

VO: I am using Fluff This! Cozy Creature shampoo, because it was Halloween last week and I'm not ready to go into the Christmas season.  Last time I talked about how important establishing boundaries is before working on a new client, because once shifted, it can be hard to communicate in words. In Sasha's case, his pack leader called to tell me something we forgot, but this level of preparation is certainly not the norm.

[Sasha stands up at her request while she rinses off the shampoo. He is still alert but more relaxed than before. The groomer shuts off the water and looks at him for a moment.]

Groomer: Your alpha said you won't like your face washed, is that true?

[Sasha turns his head sharply at the words.]

Groomer: Don't be mad at me, I'm just repeating what I was told.  So are you gonna rip my face off if I do this? Because I wouldn't like that very much.

[Sasha stares at her for a moment, entirely still, then he huffs and flicks his ears. It almost sounds like he's saying "fine".]

[She begins washing his face. Sasha has his eyes closed for most of it, and his posture is stiff. He is clearly stressed.]

Groomer: I’m working as fast as I can. Is that a werewolf thing, because your brother also didn’t like this.

VO: After going through a stack of towels, it turns out Sasha actually fits on my big table. I got this one after I realized I’d get more lycanthropic clients. It has a maximum weight limit of just over 500 kilos and can theoretically keep a werewolf still if they freak out. It’s not something I’ve used before aside from practice and I hope I never need to, for everyone’s sake. 

[She puts a rubber mat onto the surface and Sasha steps onto the table, lying down and dangling one paw over the side. There is a band of scar tissue around his ankles.]

VO: Sasha is an old werewolf and like many of his kind suffers from the beginning stages of arthritis, so I pad the table down to prevent him from slipping. I put on the happy hoodie and my beekeeper’s hat and once again cover my shop in fluff.

[Long sequence of blow drying set to majestic music. Sasha has laid his head down but is still very much alert, his tail twitching on occasion.]

Groomer: I’m afraid you have to stand up.

[Sasha obliges, claws digging into the mat to stabilize himself. He sniffs the air and suddenly growls, loudly. He puts his paw on her shoulder.]

Groomer: What?

[Sasha’s paws shift to semi-hands nearly instantaneously. He switches the dryer off and pulls down the happy hoodie in one motion. Hands shifting back, his claws scrape the metal of the table. He stares at the door, entirely still.]

Groomer: O-kay, that was mildly terrifying.

[The camera cuts to the hallway, only showing the groomer’s and another person’s legs.]

VO: Turns out another client mixed up their schedule and came in a day early. My shop is neutral ground, but that doesn’t make people like each other. After that mildly terrifying incident, I finish blow-drying him and begin on the haircut. Sasha is in great shape even so shortly after the moon and only requested very minimal trims. Much like his brother, he has very long tail fur, so I give that a good brushing and shorten it with my chunkers.

[The brush makes a satisfying ksh-ksh sound going through the fur. The groomer holds the long fur between two fingers while she cuts it.]

VO: Working on werewolves is an incredibly special task that requires mutual trust and a lot of knowledge. That said, I’ve never seen a partial transformation like this. You really never stop learning.

[Switch to full view of the table. Sasha has sat down while she brushes out his back. He is once again observing her cautiously.]

VO: Sasha has collected a lot of scars in his life, so I had to switch between several tools before finding something that was comfortable for him. Once again, the AquiGroomer proved its worth, removing a ton of undercoat without hurting his skin. I used the dematter on the long fur on his chest and then cleaned out his ears. 

[Sasha clearly enjoys the feeling, turning his head while she moves the pad.]

Groomer: So, you gonna let me touch your feet? 

[Cut to a close up of her removing the fur between his paw pads. Noticeably, he’s missing two toes on the left front paw.]

VO: A few of you asked if shaving out the paw pads is necessary since many older wolves have trauma surrounding their paws being hurt. I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely necessary, but there are advantages depending on your location. A rural pack that mostly walks in the forest or even on snow is probably better off keeping all that extra fluff. It is more work to keep clean, but it can help with sinking into the snow. If you live in an urban area, shaving it out gives more traction on smooth surfaces. Sasha comes from a rural pack, but will spend some time in an urban area, so he’s decided that he wants more traction, especially since he’s only got three claws here.

For that extra wellness factor, I rub some balm on his paw pads and let it sit for a bit while I start cleaning the massive furnado.

VO: I spray Sasha down in Spooky Pumpkin cologne, because Sasha is a spooky guy, and we’re all done. From beginning to end, this groom took four hours, with a short break for snacks in between. 

[Sasha sits on the table, observing the camera in that same cold manner he has before.]

VO: And all that’s left to say is thank you for watching, I hope you enjoyed the stern Sasha.

Just finished the last Fowl Twins book, and while I think most of the trilogy has been surface level and weirdly paced, Colfer's strong suit continues to be characters.

Personally, I like the way Minerva changed (the last time we saw her she was 12, and now she's in her late 20s at least). She's the anti Artemis in every sense of the word, while still being super smart.

Myles' reveal is.... odd. I see where Colfer was coming from, it definitely was a blow (lol) to Myles' ego, but... Really?

Finally, though Lazuli wasn't involved as much as I'd like, her plot line was a really nice tie in. I'm happy for her.

All in all, an enjoyable experience. I'd like more books about the Regrettables, though tighter plots and less toilet humor is preferable.

AF AU ideas

1- Fowl twins v.1

first and foremost one of my favs: Artemis and Orion are really just twins. Maybe they grew up together, in which case how would this personalities be different? maybe it's a separate at birth deal? Regardless, in my mind it features Arty/Holly's amazing platonic duo + Orion who is hopelessly in love with his twin’s best friend, both of whom have *zero* tolerance for his romantic ways. Thanks to my sister for the idea

2- The Opal effect

K I've seen this one all over the fandom, I don't remember where I saw it first. It helps me sleep at night to imagine that, after the murder of young Opal, and the subsequent reversal of all things Koboi, since she was the one to murder him, Root is brought back to life. Not quite sure how, but he is resurrected and the world becomes a little bit better. Maybe he seeks out Holly and Trouble and returns to the LEP. Maybe he finds out a new life in some foreign local. Either way, he's back and I am happy.

3- The new Regrettable!

*Get what they deserve spoiler ahead!

Alr, read GWTD back in October and, I for one absolutely loved the character of Daphne and her relationship with Beckett. I definitely think they are soul mates of some kind and I love it. In this AU Daphne is alive and initiated into the Regrettables and joins them on all future missions. She quickly becomes friends with the rest of the main cast. Not sure how she would be alive, maybe she just was born in our time instead of Victorian London. Maybe after the shenanigans on the isle of St. George she somehow stays on this plain and acquires a body (perhaps a clone grown by Miles) anyway I love her character and wish we could've seen more of her!

-> GWTD: I can't say I’m never nervous, there’s always a risk. I've known Milo for quite a while, I know he would not bite me unless I did something extreme. This is why talking about potential triggers beforehand is so important.

The heyday was around the Spanish inquisition, when the majority of European werewolves were hunted down. The Warsaw accords ban silver weapons, but there’s hunters who still use them as a torture method.

Girl with the Dog - "Big bad wolf in the shop" Video Transcript

[Video opens on the back porch of a house framed by high fences. There is a sign on the wall saying "Tessa Simonetti, dog groomer". It's sunny, and on the wooden porch, a gigantic red dog (?) is lying, relaxing in the sun. It has medium-length copper-coloured fur and broad shoulders, the ears are relaxed but turned slightly forward while its eyes are closed]

Voice-over: This massive beast is Milo.

[The scene changes into the hallway leading inside. The door opens to allow the wolf to come inside. The camera angle is at waist height, accentuating how massive the wolf is as he trots inside. He barely fits through the door, sniffing the environment briefly before the scene switches to the inside of the shop.]

Voice-over: A lot of you have been wondering if my tools could be used for lycanthropic fur and the answer is yes! But I'm aware it can be scary to come into a shop unprepared, so today I'll show you how I take care of a werewolf coat. Milo is a friend who has graciously volunteered his presence. Because of course, getting a full body massage is just such a sacrifice.

[They walk across the room towards a smaller enclosed area with walls far taller than the groomer. The wolf looks at it and gives the groomer a skeptical look.]

Groomer: I know, you're a big fluffy beast. [She pauses.] Sorry, I haven't had sapient clients in a while. [She laughs.] 

[Milo walks into the shower but it's a tight squeeze. He rises on his hind legs and rests his front paws on the shower wall to make some space.]

Groomer: I guess that works. 

[She warms up the water and begins to soak his coat. It turns a dark shade of red, but most of the water slides right off.]

Groomer: Werewolves tend to have very thick fur, and Milo's is unusually long for his species. You can tell it doesn't absorb water at all. 

[She puts her entire hand into his coat and pulls out a fistful of cream-colored fur.]

Groomer: You're gonna blow up my shop later on I can tell. I wish I had the nozzle here but someone's too big for the bathtub.

[Milo looks down and makes a vague shrugging motion.]

[The groomer continues to soak his coat and starts rubbing in the shampoo.]

VO: Milo is a European, or more commonly called eldritch-type werewolf. As werewolves, they are in a human form most of the time. Or… mostly human at least. Unlike arcane werewolves, their bodies are actually different on an anatomical level.

[The camera focuses on the hind legs, which seem… odd. The overall anatomy is right but the proportions seem slightly off. The water also makes light strips of skin over his ankles appear.]

VO: During transformations, there is also a two-legged form most of you will be familiar with from books and movies, or as you can see, a fully lupine form.

A lot of you have asked if bathing is absolutely necessary. I usually don't groom dry for several reasons. For one thing, it's more hygienic, because you don't have all that dander flying around, and it's easier to clean. Bathing also gets the undercoat out more thoroughly. I'm bathing him today in Floof This! Deshedding Shampoo, because he's shedding like a beast and it will feel really good to get all of that out. 

Groomer: Can you come down from there? I can't reach that far up. 

[Milo considers her for a moment before sitting down in the shower. He's still very tall, but low enough for the groomer to reach his face. He flinches when the water goes over his head and bares his teeth for a moment.]

Groomer: I know, I know, it's no fun.

VO: One prerequisite to grooming is of course being in control of your wolf form. Milo is not about to start chewing on me, which is something I always need to take into consideration. While there are restraints that are cleared for this type of force, it's not something I do unless absolutely necessary.

Grooming is not really a requirement for old world werewolves, because there is a strong continuity between the wolf and human form, but it's still something that can be helpful. Physical transformations put a lot of stress on the body and it's common to have lasting soreness and later on develop arthritis and other joint pain.

[She finishes washing his face and cuts to a mountain of towels next to the shower.]

VO: After a thousand days and a thousand nights, the shower is done and Milo has increased my laundry by a factor of ten. The bad news is, he's too big for the table. The good news, I won't have to bend down too much.

[Milo lays down on the floor while she wipes up the massive amount of water on the ground. That done, the groomer begins running her hand through his fur from all angles, which he seems to enjoy. His eyes are closed for most of this.]

Groomer: So I'm checking for mats here. They're not super common, but it can happen if the fur got wet and then was left to air dry. Can you move? 

[She tries to roll him over, unsuccessfully.]

Groomer: Please?

[Milo rolls over. When she begins checking his belly, his demeanor changes. He lifts his head and licks his lips, following her movements with his eyes.]

VO: It's very important to talk about boundaries and potential triggers before a groom, especially if you've never worked together before. Many are apprehensive about having their sanitary areas treated by a stranger and you can absolutely discuss your preferences beforehand. Physical and emotional trauma is unfortunately also exceedingly common, and even a completely rational wolf can snap. You can tell Milo is a bit nervous, but I know what to look out for, so I'm not worried about getting my face ripped off. Otherwise I wouldn't be doing this.

[She finishes checking him and shakes wet fur from her hands.]

Groomer: This would be easier if you could talk.

Milo (in a strained, horrifying approximation of speech): You'd think so.

[The groomer freezes. Milo grins and licks his snout, visibly pleased with the reaction.]

Groomer: Oh-kay. Wow.

VO: I considered using a happy hoodie, but there was a bit of a capacity problem, so Milo will have to do without. I put on my beekeeper's hat, and now I'll leave you to enjoy this epic furnado.

[Happy instrumental music. Milo is still alert while she dries his belly but relaxes when she moves on to his back. He doesn't doze exactly but lays his head on his legs and relaxes. There is cream-colored fur flying everywhere, to the point of coating the camera lense. Milo sneezes when fur gets stuck to his nose.]

VO: After another one thousand years, Milo is finally dry. I am using the NyoomGroom today. Wolf fur is fairly rough, especially compared to other canines of a similar coat length, and this is the best tool I've found to remove undercoat without causing unnecessary pulling.

That doesn't mean no pulling though and the king makes sure to voice his displeasure.

[The brush removes even more fur, even though his coat doesn't seem to thin either way. The groomer's hand exposes scarring hidden under the coat. Milo grows quietly when she gets close to his ears. When she ignores him, he growls louder. Ignored again, he finally snaps at her, his teeth closing loudly next to her hand. It's clear he could have gotten her if he wanted to.]

Groomer: Okay, okay, I'm sorry! 

VO: That's what happens when you don't listen. I switched to the AquiGroomer for the rest of the brushing, and Milo was much happier. 

[More brushing, though she leaves out his ears. Milo observes her carefully either way, also while she brushes the shorter fur on his legs.]

VO: There were no mats today, but it still took me seven years to brush him, and another seven to clean it up. Look at that mountain of fur. 

[Shot of a pile of light fur, about the size of a Golden Retriever.]

VO: His Majesty was kind enough to stand so I could complete his paws. He did not want a nail trim today, which was a relief for my hands. 

[Change of angle, Milo has sat up, lifting his paw for the groomer to shave out his paw pads. His paw flexes, extending his claws as if she's tickling him. He yawns again, this time a stress yawn.]

Groomer: We're nearly done. 

VO: I am spraying him down in Spring Forest cologne, and after a staggering six and a half hours, Milo is finished and looking fantastic. 

[Shot of Milo trotting out into the garden, clearly making sure to look as impressive as possible.]

VO: Thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoyed the marvelous Milo.

Ever since that "incident" awhile back on Tumblr about my Stefano one-shots on AO3, I get an extreme pang of anxiety through my chest every time I see a message in my inbox. So far I haven't had any negative messages, just an occasional good one.

So far I've had no negativity on my stories since that incident thanks to S-A-O, and I hope it stays that way. I'm fucking trying with my one-shots, and that's all I can do. I'm not a professional writer, nor am I as good as GWTDS who has so many kudos and hits on ao3.

I just try. That's all I can do with a brain that's constantly tired.

Had to repost because someone claimed that I'm bringing other authors into my "pity party". Nope. Why do you think I abbreviated them for? I'm not talking bad about them one bit, more complimenting than anything. Comment on this one again, and you'll simply be blocked. I'm not doing this anymore. I had to deal with enough negativity, I'm not going through it for the second time.

People can't talk about what they think on Tumblr, whether it's positive or negative? If that was illegal, there would be SO MANY people that would be banned then.
