43% (The Vultures Diet)
Walter had been warned by everyone at the weight loss center about those dudes. They called them vultures. A group of skinny and muscular dudes at the edge of the parking lot watching clients go in and out the front door. The dieticians, the trainers, the doctors and the secretaries all told him that when someone becomes their victim, they never lose the weight, they just keep blowing larger and larger. Once he noticed the vultures once, he noticed them everywhere: at weight loss centers, at health food stores, at the gym. Their gaze was fixed on every jiggly roll they saw in January. Legend has it that they watched diet infomercials and weight loss shows, twisting their tips for weight gain ideas and watching with lust and desire in their eyes. They came out to wait on guys like him to waddle through the parking lot when their willpower can’t take anymore. That’s when they go on the attack.
Phase 1: Recruiting
According to the numbers, 43% of people will give up on their New Year’s Resolution by the end of January, and an overwhelming number of resolutions failed will be attempts at losing weight.
Walter didn’t want to be one of them. The holidays had hit him pretty hard and by most estimates, he was already in need of a good diet plan before it started. October was a non-stop barrage of Halloween candy and then at the start of November, it’s all discounted. The end of November is Thanksgiving- the office Thanksgiving party, Friendsgiving, the family Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving leftovers. Before you know it, it’s December. Everyone is hosting a holiday party and offering special candies and homemade treats. If it’s Hanukkah themed, there’s destined to be doughnuts and latkes deep fried in oil. If it’s Christmas themed, anything and everything can end up being served. The month dead ends in a giant feast and a week of eating leftovers and doing absolutely nothing that might burn a calorie. The whole season was a long cycle of Walter eating a lot, folks offering him lots of food, him never saying no to food, and him eating even more.
So at the start of the year, Walter decided he would try to lose some of the 325 pounds he carried. He joined a weight loss program with centers so they could see him and pressure him into staying on track. And after just the first week, Walter was already slipping.
Walter already knew he was playing with fire when he came to the Vultures the second week of the month. He had reached his limit. All of the solid food he had eaten all day could fit in the palm of his hand. He was supposed to walk in to meet with his support group and be positive, though he’s never been so miserable. He spent all of his willpower earlier in the day when someone brought in cake for a birthday party, and they announced that they got a larger size just so he could have as much as he wanted.
When Walter saw the Vultures cooking, he knew God was pushing his buttons. The smell of burgers and fries crept through his car’s air vents. He parked away from the doors where someone might spot him, but now there was no one to protect him from the pure desire in the Vulture’s eyes. Walter thought he had been self-conscious about his size before, but that was nothing compared to having them measure him with his eyes. Every cellulite dimple on his thighs and ass, every fold stacked on his love handles to form his rotund gut, every single stretch mark was already known to them by the time he reached them.
One of them stepped up to greet Walter. He had a beard that framed his face well and captivating eyes that twinkled like the stars in the sky. “Hey my name is Oliver. What brings you in?”
Walter hated how he blurted out “the smell of that grill” before he could even think of a smart answer. Oliver and his friends chuckled at the outburst.
“Yeah,” Oliver said, “the grill gets more visitors than any of the rest of us. Why don’t I fix you a plate?”
“Thank you. You know, you all seem much nicer than people make you out to be.”
“I’m guessing your friends inside told you about us.” Walter nodded in agreement. “We’re really not that different. We just so happen to think men are better off when they’re built nice and wide. We think it’s sexy when a man likes to eat. Fat men are beautiful to us. Guys who have listened to us instead of them tend to be much happier. I know we’re going to make you happier already.”Oliver handed over a plate with two double cheeseburgers and a brown bag filled to the brim with fries. Walter could see the grease stains but he didn’t care. Walter licked his lips and devoured the burger in less than ten bites. He licked his fingers clean.
“That might have been the most delicious burger I’ve ever had. What’s your secret?”
“Well, we don’t skimp on flavor or quality. We’ll give you what you want by any means necessary. There’s no need to deny yourself with us. In fact, I think you’ll like our diet plan.”
Walter’s curiosity was piqued. “You have a diet?”
Phase 2: How It Works
Walter had been working through his new diet for about two and a half weeks, and he still had questions. Oliver, his coach, was happy to walk him through everything.
Should I have a slice of the cake in the break room? No, have two.
Should I have a salad for my appetizer? No, have mozzarella sticks.
Which chocolate bar should I have? Both and pick up the king size.
Oliver’s choices all felt so much more natural than Walter’s old diet. His old diet had a long list of foods he couldn’t eat that got rid of all his favorite foods. He was only allowed tiny portions at set times which left his stomach empty and mad the rest of the day. The old dietician found something new to chastise him for every single week he came in. Oliver never chastised him for eating what he liked; Oliver always wanted Walter to treat himself.
One day, Walter was texting Oliver about all the cravings he was having while he was stuck at work. There was a big deadline coming up and he couldn’t take the time for one of his usual mid-day binges. A coworker had ordered sandwiches for the office, but that was far from enough for Walter’s big boy stomach. Walter tried to power through, but his mind kept wandering to all the meals he would normally have in an afternoon. His mind switched from burgers to fried chicken to quesadillas. He thought about the pizza and cinnamon stick combo at the place around the corner from the shop.
At around 3 o’clock, there was a delivery for him at the front. Walter snuck downstairs and found a bunch of the Vultures holding bags of all the things he was thinking about.
“Oliver told us that you were feeling a little hungry, so we thought we would help you out,” one of the Vultures said.
“Oh you guys didn’t have to do this. Really! I don’t even have time to eat all this food.”
“I’m sure they’ll understand that you need to take just a few moments for your health,” another Vulture responded. “Besides, once you get some food in you, you’ll be a lot more focused and productive anyway.”
“Well when you put it like that, I can’t afford to not take a lunch break.”
Walter and the Vultures snuck into one of the nearby conference rooms and laid out the massive spread of food. Walter dove right in. His stomach was absolutely growling. When he started to feel full, those men lined up and ensured Walter ate every morsel of food they brought. They scooped up every crumb and drop of grease and put it in his mouth.
Walter’s gut was bloated by the time he got back to his office. There were all colors of stains on his shirt. A coworker simply looked at him when he got back and asked:
“You couldn’t even bring up a bag of chips for the rest of us?”
Phase 3: Group Support
When the weather started to warm up in the spring and the coats came off, the real world started to look like after pictures. Diets and exercise started to pay off. Walter stared at photos of ripped abs and toned biceps and wandered if somewhere he had made a wrong turn. He sent a panicked text to Oliver who rushed over as fast as he could with his favorite treat- a box of doughnuts.
Walter held the box on his lap as Oliver launched into a diatribe. He wasn’t used to Oliver with lots of passion and emotion, but his heart was in this speech. Walter almost expected tears to start welling up in his eyes.
“You have to stick with the program. I know it’s easy to lose faith when there’s all these messages telling you you’re supposed to be built like a cardboard cutout, but that's not who you are. And trying to be something you’re not is only going to make you miserable. You need to see what success looks like for someone like you. I know, you should meet some of the other guys in the program. I bet a trip to the buffet with them will have you feeling much more confident.”
So the next evening, Walter is sitting at a table with three other dudes who were the size of planets. Oliver is sitting at the next table with one of the Vultures, some lanky dude who had an aggressively obvious boner from the moment he walked in. Oliver and the other Vulture served them eye-watering portions of whatever they asked for directly to the table so they didn’t get up. I left Walter with a lot of time to get to know the other guys.
Directly across from him was Justin, a high school teacher. He was a little like Walter- a chronic snacker. He would have snacks in between periods and while he was grading assignments and tests and some of the candy when he passed by the jars in the main office. It was an open secret among the students that bringing him a bite to eat could help boost your grade. Justin flashed the group a photo from when he decided he was going to lose the weight and consequently when he crumbled like the first cookie he got from the Vultures. He had an average build really, just a bit pudgy with a beer gut. Now that gut was an ocean of fat big enough to be used as an armrest and push his legs apart when he sat down. He confessed as he scratched at his stretch marks that the snacks from his students have grown that from his quite a bit. That morning, someone gave him a sheet of brownies and he finished the whole thing before the end of class.
Next to Justin was Elijah, who was deep into a passionate love affair with fast food. He loved it so much that from high school through college, Elijah worked at a drive thru and abused his free food allowance. When he got a corporate job and he saw just how little of his dress clothes fit any more, he knew he had to make a change. But a body that’s used to making 2XLs look like kid’s clothes doesn’t know how to resist the grease laden siren songs. When the Vultures got a hold of him, they got him to spend all his new money indulging every desire they could fit in greasy brown bags. That’s why there’s a wrapper coming out of his too tight pocket. That’s why he’s gained the weight of a grown man in pure lard in just 13 months. The two chairs he had to push together don’t sound like they’ll make it through dinner, but there’s no way he’d fit in anything resembling a booth.
Stuck next to Walter was Thomas. Thomas was a real glutton. He could eat for an hour straight and five minutes later start planning his next meal. Most days he ended up eating five times a day. Thomas was notorious for going to a drive thru for a snack for waiting in another drive thru. His brief moment of doubt came when he outgrew the big and tall section of his local department store. Two years later he was just fired for breaking his second reinforced office chair, and outgrowing the largest uniform  size of the supplier. Now he’s looking to officially make his waistline longer than his height.
Walter couldn’t help but be a little bit impressed. By pure numbers, they were leaps and bounds from where they started. At the same time, they were bragging about a future that he was scared of. Didn’t this start because he was scared of forever being the massive elephant in the room? Why keep going down this road? And then they took their first bites of food and the taste does something to him. He sees what it does to the other guys. Their destiny was his and it was filled with happiness. No need to fear anything.
Phase 4: Combined with Exercise
The countdown to Halloween was filled with one of Walter’s worst nightmares coming to life.  The elevator at his job broke down, and even worse, there was no clue when it would get fixed. Walter had gained close to 200 pounds since he had used the stairs in that building. Now he was stuck climbing a flight of stairs just to get to his cubicle.
When he opened the door of the stairwell, Walter tried to steel himself staring at the daunting concrete challenge. After all, there’s only one way to go. He grabbed onto the railing. The cheap metal groaned as he pressed on it. He hoisted his body up the first step and it felt like a triumph. Sure, it’s uncomfortable, but it’s not impossible. He can do this. Walter pushed himself up a few more steps. The folds of fat swang with every footfall. All that movement was straining the tight clothes that he perfectly positioned to cover his inflating body. Walter swore he heard seams ripping. As he approached the landing for the second floor, he started to feel the burn in his muscles. Sweat is rolling down his face. Walter summoned all the strength in his body and pushed forward to get through the door.
On the other side of the door was the boss’s assistant, drinking her coffee. When she noticed him, she shot up out of her chair.
“Yay, Walter you made it. I have a surprise for you. Follow me, quickly.” Quickly? Walter wanted to spend the next half hour leaned up against the wall waiting on his heart rate to get back to a normal place. Walking should have been out of the question, but he didn’t have a choice. He followed the petite secretary as she began to explain, “Human Resources has reminded us that having the elevator break down causes undue stress onto you and the other ‘plus-sized’ members of our corporate family. And so as a way of compensating you for the trouble, Mr. Hartman has decided to provide you all with some snacks to start off the morning. Feel free to have as much as you want and maybe even more.”
A stack of doughnut boxes sat on the table in the middle of the break room. It looked pitiful. Worse yet, the only person sitting at the table was Rodrigo. Rodrigo had flakes of glaze all over his mouth and fingers and sprinkled down his shirt. The box of doughnuts next to him only had 3 left. Rodrigo was the de facto fat guy in our office. His belly was genuinely the size of a yoga ball and hung over his belt. If there’s leftovers to get rid of, they’re calling him first. One of the reasons I went on a diet at the beginning of the year was because O felt like I was going to be his size pretty soon.
When my boss’s secretary left, I looked at him and went, “Can you believe they’re trying to bribe us with doughnuts?”
“With how tough it was to get up those stairs this morning, we deserve it. There may not be many benefits to being fat guys, but a donut buffet all to ourselves is pretty good.”
“Still, it feels insulting. I know that I’m a little heavy but-”
“A little heavy? Bud, we’re looking at “a little heavy” in the rearview mirror. I’m very heavy and you’ve got almost 30 pounds on me. ”
“No, I mean I’ve let myself go this year but I’m not-”
“Don’t be modest. This is a safe space. You’re what? 420 pounds?” Rodrigo estimated. He was around 430 when he weighed himself last, and that was a few months ago. “I try my best to stay under the big 400, but it’s okay. We’re fat guys. We like to eat. There’s nothing wrong with that. Being fat is great! Today you got the fat guy’s dream: to get paid to sit around and eat donuts all morning. Don’t miss your big break.”
Unable to argue with his logic, Walter took a seat across from him. He grabbed a box of doughnuts and started chowing down.
Phase 5: Success Stories
When New Year’s came and went once again, Oliver and the other Vultures invited him to a celebration for all of their clients who had major achievements in the past year. The Vultures would stop by and talk to him about how his year had gone and what his favorite fast foods had gone. Half the night, Oliver sat next to Walter and fed him treats with desire in his eyes. Every Vulture function involved a never-ending feast of good food, and Walter would know having been to so many in the past few months.
In the last quarter of the year, it seemed like Walter was getting an invite to go to hang out with the Vulture every other week. It started off with their Halloween parties in October. Then they melted into Friendsgiving feasts and every kind of holiday something they could invent in December. The Vultures did everything they could short of kidnap him from his job to keep him eating at every hour of the day for two and a half months. With trainers and friends who were all in the program, they kept him accountable and made sure that he was always keeping Oliver happy with the stuff he was eating.
It was no surprise that Walter had managed to push past 450 by the end of the year. However the attitude shift had come as a complete surprise to Oliver. Walter was finally excited by eating. He started to like being fat. It gave him joy when he saw that he was getting bigger and fatter. Now he was a fat making machine and Oliver knew he was ready.
Oliver came up to Walter at the end of the night with an envelope covered in dark spots made to look like grease stains. He said, “I’m really proud of you for all the work you put in this year. The guys and I have decided that you would make a great spokesperson during our membership drive this year. And it comes with a few benefits, if you’re interested.”
“Benefits?” Walter asked.

DINE 'N CRIME: DUMPLING
Tumblr media
This recipe is part of the menu of 'Chez Molerat vs Dine 'n Crime'.
HOW TO MAKE THE FILLING. Ingredients: - Fatty pork meat/porkbelly slices (preferably ground meat) - 2 hands full of big shrimp (deshelled and cleaned out). - Two gloves of finely chopped garlic - A piece of ginger (size of your pinky finger), also finely chopped - 2 Spring onions - 1 can of bamboo shoots (use only half of it) - 2 quick shakes of ground white pepper (or to your preferred taste) - 2 tbsp of water - 2 tsp of Soy sauce - 2 tsp of Shaoxing cooking wine - 1 tsp of Sesame oil - Samyang Buldak sauce to your liking (HOT!) Optional ingredients: - Finely chopped carrot - Finely chopped cabbage - Finely chopped shiitake mushrooms
Instructions: - If you have ground pork, great! If you don't; chop the pieces of fatty pork meat as big as your pinky fingers. After that, carefully start hammering down on it with two knives; ground it ye olde way! It's a bit time consuming but you'll feel like a professional chef when you start double wielding kitchen knives. Keep in mind that this causes a lot of noise though and PLEASE BE CAREFUL BECAUSE KNIVES ARE SHARP! Once you are done, put the ground pork into a bowl. - Wash and deshell the shrimps in cold water. Take out the guts, wash the shimps once more and finally chop the shrimps into 4 to 5 pieces. Add the shrimps to the pork. - Clean and finely chop 2 spring onions (depending on the size it can also be 1 or 3). Chop the bamboo shoots and lastly mince the ginger and garlic into tiny pieces (you can also grate the ginger and use a garlic press for the garlic). Add these ingredients to the pork shrimp mixture. - Add the water, ground pepper, soy sauce, Shaoxing cooking wine, sesame oil and Buldak sauce to the mixture. Stir well until everything is evenly divided. Once combined, cover the bowl and set the filling aside in the refrigerator. NOTE: If you do not have the Buldak sauce, that's no problem! You can easily replace this with a bit of Madam Jeanette or any other hot pepper to your liking. It's up to your spice level. Keep in mind that this recipe is made to my preferences and not everyone likes hot foods. So if you want to eat good dumplings without the spice; leave out the Buldak sauce (or use it seperately for dipping).
HOW TO MAKE THE DUMPLING SKIN (RECOMMENDED FOR MORE ADVANCED COOKS). Ingredients: - Water 120mL/4.2oz - 200g/0.85 cup of All purpose flour - A pinch of salt - 80g/half a cup of Spinach (preferably fresh baby spinach) for the green dough - Liquid Squid ink for the black dough
Instructions: - Add the flour and salt to the mixing bowl. - Boil the water, turn off the stove and add the baby spinach to soften it. Make sure to NOT overcook spinach as it contains 'prussic Acid' which means that your body can turn this stuff into Cyanide. Not enough to actually kill you, of course... I hope. I'm a Doctor, but not a health doctor or dietician, so don't take it as hard facts from me! Technically speaking, you're also not a 'doctor', you know... Since you're a drop out. ZIP IT, SHEGO! - Add the softened spinach and the water to a mixer and blend it until smooth. - Sieve the blended spinach juice until all the pulp is seperated from the warm green water (yummy). Make sure that the water is around 45°c/113°f - Carefully add the warm water to the flour as you mix it - Make a ball of dough and if it's too wet, add a little bit more flour but not too much! Keep on kneading and once the ball of dough is springy to touch (push it in with your finger and it should go back up) it's ready! - Divide the dough in two equal pieces. Wrap up one of them and to the other we will add a few drops of squid ink. Knead the ball (yes it will be a bit sticky again) until it changes color. We're aiming for a dark grey color, not to worry; this will turn black during the steaming process. HOW TO FOLD THE DUMPLINGS: For the life of me I cannot explain to you how to fold dumplings so here; have this amazing tutorial by China Sichuan Food. My auntie taught me how to fold crescent moon dumplings but well, I'm still not the best at it when it comes to folding home made dumpling skin. That's the reason why I adviced at the start that making this is for more advanced cooks. If you have never folded dumplings before, I recommend you start with store bought frozen gyoza skins. They are WAY easier to make dumplings with but sadly, I haven't found any black and green frozen gyoza skins in stores.
Once you're finished making all your dumplings, you can go right ahead and steam them for 7~8 minutes OR you can store them in the freezer (make sure to first seperately freeze them for up to 1 hour (or until slightly hardened) and then you can put all of them together in a bag, this way they won't stick together) If you want to heat them up after freezing; steam them for 15 minutes.
HOW TO MAKE THE DIPPING SAUCE. Ingredients: - 1 tbsp Chinese black vinegar - 1 to 2 tbsp Soy sauce - 1 tsp Sesame oil Mix these condiments together in a little bowl, for topping you can add: - Sesame seeds - Sliced chilli - Finely sliced ginger
Enjoy these dumplings while hot! Carefully bite the tip to create a little air hole so you won't burn your mouth because these dumplings are juicy!

All of this.
I've been skinny nearly my entirely life because of my fast metabolism and during middle school I skipped breakfast because my guts were in knots due to the bullying I received, and didn't have much for lunch in high school because it got worse.
I didn't stop looking underweight until my brother died and I hardly did anything or went anywhere and ate pizza, and that's when I looked a little "normal." When my health got worse because of a large ovarian cyst that was endometriosis started to pinch my larger intestine shut (not fully, but created a bottlenecking effect) and my tolerance for certain foods were being lost, I slowly went underweight again despite what I ate.
After surgery, I had no idea how to diet to gain weight back, and before I saw a doctor about it, I made the mistake of seeing a counselor (went to her for abandonment issues and insecurities about how my face simply looks thanks to bullying), and because of my weight and my insecurities, she used it as an excuse to try and say I'm definitely anorexic and wanted to put me into in-patient care "before we get you back onto solid food" DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAVE ALWAYS ATE SOLID FOOD. She wanted to milk my Medicaid insurance and ignored everything I said that contradicted her accusations. Then she GOT MAD when I told her I didn't want to see her anymore.
Know what I ended up doing? Saw a dietician (who only begged me to eat more, didn't understand how endometriosis could affect what foods I could safely eat, and gave me Ensure until the carrageenan finally became too much for my guts), looking up how to gain weight, and discovered the Yuka app to watch out for problematic additives.
I went from being underweight to looking like a cross between athletic and normal. I'm the heaviest I've ever been because I was never taught how to diet because if I'm not fat, then I don't need to diet. I love weight-lifting and exercising to build muscle, and my thighs feel powerful with a healthy layer of fat. I HAVE BOOBS NOW AND IM NO LONGER FLAT-CHESTED. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD IT IS FOR ME TO NOT TOUCH MY TITS BECAUSE IVE NEVER HAD THEM THIS BIG BEFORE?!
I had to figure this shit out for myself. I'm glad Medicaid covered the visits with these useless "professionals."
I've noticed a theme with the professionals who DIDNT help me: they had quite a bit of religious Christian stuff decorating their workspace. The gastroenterologist and the gyno both had their work spaces having some informational posters and charts for patients and they didn't interrupt and were really understanding of me. My gyno is fucking awesome and he even helped ease my anxiety of my first major surgery and stuff.
Part of me wants to see the counselor again. And tell her to eat shit, I built this solid muscle and fat all by myself because I had to thoroughly look up how to diet for weight gain.
Currently, I don't have a very diverse diet in terms of meals, because I'm too poor for a lot of quality stuff and I'm still trying to figure out what all I like that I would like to try recipe-wise (don't wanna waste money on something I'm likely not gonna like).
My whole fucking life up until now, I've been accused of being anorexic by people because of how skinny I was despite eating like a pig either at home or at a friend's house for the weekend. Now I finally have more flesh on these bones. I hope to keep going.
And here's the context of my situation:
I am 5'3", the canonical height of Wolverine. I never made it to 100 pou ds until recently. And now I'm hovering around 109 to 111 pounds (it fluctuates depending on my foods available and how much muscle I've built; the muscle helps me maintain the weight). This is literally the heaviest I've ever been. My tits have boob physics when I move now for once in my life. All because I had to look up with no help how to gain. Weight for my situation.
Because of what I've went through, I will NEVER comment on someone's weight, even if I've noticed a change in their weight, because I don't know what they're going through.
For my entire life people have told me I am "naturally athletic". I am not "naturally athletic": I am an asthmatic with historically really poor cardio health and joints that partially dislocate themselves if I put pressure on them slightly weird. What I *am* is naturally tall and slender, even more so when I did absolutely no physical activity and ate very little because my neurodivergent body didn't give me hunger signals, which most people mistake for "naturally athletic".
That's not to say I don't have the potential for athleticism. My mother, who has never been under 250 pounds my entire life, is built of sheer farm girl muscle, has stellar blood pressure and cardio health despite her weight, and could (and has!) bodily haul me and my grown brother around like we weigh nothing. When I was a kid the woman was biking triathlon distances before we were even awake for school. The woman is an ATHLETE, and her whole life she has been obese (and heard from everyone and their dogs that she needs to lose weight).
I'm not sure where I'm going with this long piece of anecdotal evidence, except to say: my whole life I heard I was naturally athletic, until I actually became athletic. Because the thing is, I put on muscle like my mom. It fills out my shoulders and arms and makes me look big, thick, and barrel chested. "Genetically beefy", as my brother puts it. And suddenly I wasn't getting comments about my athleticism anymore. I'm quite literally the healthiest I've ever been. I can run for miles, lift my weight, my balance and heart health are excellent. I'm just bigger now. And not one stranger has a comment about my physique since I got fit. Because I don't look like what they think "naturally athletic" is.
I guess what I'm saying is, maybe don't let your perception of what "athleticism" or "health" LOOKS like color your perception of like. People's actual health.

2017-2020 me vs current me (health and wellness and fitness)
Back in 2017-2020 a lot of the wellness tip I got were from influencers and models online. Some of the tips were solid and really helpful, some of them were bs, some were unrealistic, and unfortunately a lot were more looks and aesthetics focused as opposed to health focused.
I was into dieting and exercising back then. But I crashed in late 2020-2022 because of COVID depression and having to process a lot of trauma and learning how to unmask. I put the weight back on, ate a lot of junk and sugar (would eat a whole pizza or bag of party sized chips and have a cookie/muffin with a sugary coffee drink). I would exercise a lot and even do intense stuff like brisk walk for a full hour and do HIIT weekly. But when I started working I stopped. I developed very poor body image.
I developed stress and anxiety over my life and responsibilities as someone who recently graduated from college and was going to start my first job. So I had very little work and finance experience and knew little about health (I wanted to establish these asap so I'm not screwed over when I'm older).
But of course I'm a scientist and I'm smart. So I should know about health and wellness. Not from what I hear from influencers online, but from my own research and listening to what other experts, like doctors and dieticians, have to say. I started making small steps to work on my health in March 2023 after meeting a holistic dentist. But even more intensely since June 2024 because I developed severe eczema and my anxiety/depression got bad. My mom and sister pushed me to take care of myself.
I'm not a superficial person irl. I don't see the point of taking care of myself just for aesthetic reasons. But when I find out all the benefits that a healthy low glycemic anti-inflammatory diet, fasting, supplementing, drinking 2 L water, exercise (cardio and strength training), gut and hormone health, sleep and stress relief, and proper breathing have and how all of these are great at preventing disease, then I'm way more inclined to follow them. And I feel so much better and more inclined to commit to them.
I'm not eating low calorie, diet sugar free foods anymore. I'm not running away from carbs and fats, but I'm also eating good portions and am fasting. I'm also brisk walking often as my cardio/fat loss routine. I aim for 30 minutes brisk walking 3x a week and pilates/yoga 3x a week (I want to be lean and toned and have a healthy metabolism).
I might not be where I want to be physically. But continuous healthy eating and fasting, as well as brisk walking and pilates/yoga will help me achieve the lean and toned, yet very metabolically healthy body, that I want. This comes from a health POV rather than just aesthetics, making me more inclined to stick to my routine and to do it in a much healthier manner than through restriction. I will get there and I can modify my routine if needed, but I think what I really need to do is to be consistent longterm and I will see more changes.
I used to do a lot of hair, skin and nail care, but a lot of that just comes down to a healthy diet and supplements. I use less products and spend less money yet I still look just as fine as I did back then. I also stopped heat treating my hair and grew it out.
My teeth are straighter and whiter and probably healthier (though I do have anxiety and trauma over my teeth).
I'll get to my goals, I'm doing great.

hi jewel
for 2.5 years i dealt with chronic bloating/abdominal distention, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, and difficulty eating very much food without unwanted reactions. i also had multiple tests done which all came back negative. the first provider i saw believed it was caused by stress, and i didn’t want to believe her, because i didn’t know how to go about improving my stress levels. crazy enough, all my symptoms went away when i started dating someone and experienced a sudden, massive reduction in stress. sometimes i can still experience some bloating or pain, but nothing like before and it hasn’t been ongoing. i also have a lot of anxiety, and it worsening directly aligned with my symptoms starting. it’s crazy how many neurotransmitters exist in our gut. idk if mental health has come up in any of your appointments, but it’s worth exploring. working with an acupuncturist and/or dietician could be helpful! my acupuncturist has been a life saver, and my dietician helped me reintroduce foods i thought i was sensitive to/reacting to. i hope you find relief soon!!
hi! i'm so glad you're feeling better <3
my psychiatrist was actually the one to push for some tests, so while it could be mental health-related, i would be pretty surprised. especially since i've had bouts of this before sporadically and they resolved on their own and weren't during high-stress periods in my life.
seeing an acupuncturist is a good idea, though. thank you!

What I ate today as a pcos/BED recovery girlie
Along with all the other issues I talked about in my last post lol. I enjoyed writing about my food choices yesterday. I felt like one of those tiktokers who post "what I eat in a day" videos without actually having to film myself all day. I'm proud of myself today, Sunday went really well in terms of choices made and how much I enjoyed them.
Sundays are my rest days from working out, Monday-Saturday I switch every day between cardio and strength training, I'm an early bird so I get up before my gym opens at 5 am, so Sunday is my day I sleep in. I woke up at 8:30, insanely late for me, then stretched like I do every day. I then worked on bagel breakfast sandwiches for my husband and I. I'm super duper picky about my bagels, and for some reason, Dave's Killer Bagels are so so delicious. Can't explain why. Love you Dave! I used their everything bagel, cooked an egg in a pan over easy, sliced some pepper jack cabot cheese (also SERIOUSLY shout out Cabot for making lactose free cheese, I love you Cabot), and decided to try frozen Beyond Meat sausage patty. All together, these ingredients made for a delicious breakfast sandwich, pairing nicely with my usual cup of Lady Grey tea. The Beyond Meat sausage patty seemed good, or at least worked with everything else. Using fake meats doesn't bother me, it's a nice option for when I miss actual meat. Also, every morning I have a 1400 mg omega-3 vitamin, nature valley omega-3 fortified women's multivitamin, and Seed probiotic. So many vitamins and probiotics! All of these were recommended to me by my doctor and my dietician to help support my gut health, my pre-diabetes and pcos symptoms.
My husband and I had decided to try something new and went to an Indian restaurant we hadn't tried before. We had lunch kind of early, around 12:30, and when we arrived we were immediately told they were doing a buffet instead of their normal menu. We were a bit surprised but went with it. I had about a cup of white jasmine rice mixed with aloo gobi masala. It was.....an awkward lunch. We were the only people in the restaurant and our waiter kept on coming up to our table to push extra food on top of the buffet. And despite how yummy my food was, I wasn't actually planning on/in the mood for a huge Indian buffet lunch. We had to tell him multiple times we didn't want any of the extras and he seemed disappointed in how small a meal we had. Overall, good food, uncomfy atmosphere. Oh well! After we went on a hike!
Early afternoon I had my favorite lactose free greek yogurt peanut butter cocoa bowl with blueberries and grain free granola. I had that with another cup of Lady Grey tea. Spent the afternoon relaxing watching Twin Peaks (so good!!).
For dinner I made a shrimp stir fry. Used frozen pre-peeled no tail shrimp, a pack of frozen mixed green vegetables (beans, peas, broccoli, kale) and a home-made stir fry sauce. For the stir fry sauce, I cobbled together a few recipes I found online. It had soy sauce, a little bit of monk fruit sweetener, lemon juice, some corn starch to thicken, some rice vinegar, and garlic. All mixed together it was super yummy! And, as usual, I wanted something sweet to end my meal, so I had a Russel Stover sugar free pecan delight, a surprisingly yummy sugar free candy. I don't constantly indulge in "sugar free" foods but it's nice to find something I like for occasional treat, these are good because they have stevia, a sweetener that also, surprisingly, does not bother me.
All-in-all, it was a really successful weekend. I feel like I struck a great balance between my wants (fun food outings, sweet things), and my needs (low sugar, low simple carb, high protein). The week is a lot more consistent/less unpredictable in terms of food, but I may write about it anyway since it's fun to.

Personalized Nutrition Plans: Why Dietitians Are Key to Sustainable Weight Loss
Tumblr media
In today’s fast-paced world, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight can often feel like an uphill battle. With countless diet trends and quick-fix solutions flooding the internet, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged. However, for those seeking a sustainable and science-backed approach, the role of a qualified dietitian becomes indispensable. Particularly, a dietitian in Chandigarh like Gagan, renowned for her expertise, can be a game-changer in your weight loss journey.
What is Personalized Nutrition?
Personalized nutrition is a tailored approach to diet and lifestyle changes that align with an individual’s unique needs, preferences, and health goals. Unlike generic diet plans that take a one-size-fits-all approach, personalized nutrition delves into specific factors such as:
Medical history
Genetic predispositions
Lifestyle habits
Cultural and food preferences
Physical activity levels
Metabolic rates
This customized strategy ensures better adherence to the plan, leading to sustainable weight loss and long-term health benefits.
Why Choose a Dietitian for Weight Loss?
While it’s tempting to follow popular diets or advice from influencers, these generic plans often overlook the complexity of human physiology. A dietitian, especially one like Gagan, a trusted dietician in Chandigarh, brings professional expertise to the table. Here’s why working with a dietitian is crucial:
Science-Backed Advice: Dietitians rely on scientific research and evidence-based practices to craft nutrition plans. They understand the interplay between nutrition and body functions, ensuring the plan promotes overall health while targeting weight loss.
Customized Plans: A dietitian creates a plan that considers your individual needs. Whether you’re dealing with hormonal imbalances, diabetes, or simply a hectic lifestyle, the plan is uniquely yours.
Realistic and Sustainable Goals: Dietitians emphasize setting realistic weight loss goals. This prevents burnout and the yo-yo effect of losing and regaining weight.
Ongoing Support and Accountability: Regular consultations with a dietitian provide motivation and accountability. They help you navigate challenges and adjust the plan as needed to ensure continued progress.
Focus on Overall Wellness: Beyond weight loss, dietitians aim to improve your overall quality of life. They address issues like gut health, energy levels, and mental well-being, ensuring holistic health benefits.
The Role of a Dietitian in Chandigarh for Weight Loss
Chandigarh, known for its vibrant lifestyle and health-conscious residents, has seen a growing demand for professional dietitians. Gagan, a leading dietitian in Chandigarh for weight loss, is celebrated for her personalized and practical approach. Here’s how she helps clients achieve their weight loss goals:
Initial Assessment: Gagan begins with a thorough assessment, including:
Analyzing medical history and current health status
Understanding dietary preferences and cultural influences
Identifying lifestyle habits and activity levels
Personalized Nutrition Plan: Based on the assessment, Gagan designs a nutrition plan that’s:
Calorie-controlled but nutrient-dense
Aligned with individual health goals
Easy to follow within a busy lifestyle
Behavioral Modifications: Sustainable weight loss often requires a shift in mindset and habits. Gagan works on strategies like mindful eating, portion control, and stress management to foster long-term success.
Regular Monitoring and Adjustments: Regular follow-ups help track progress and make necessary adjustments. Gagan’s hands-on approach ensures that clients stay motivated and on track.
Key Elements of a Personalized Nutrition Plan
A personalized nutrition plan crafted by a dietitian like Gagan focuses on balance, moderation, and variety. Here are the key components:
Balanced Macronutrients:
Optimal ratios of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats to support metabolism and energy levels.
Inclusion of Superfoods:
Foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to enhance overall health.
Hydration Strategies:
Encouraging adequate water intake and limiting sugary beverages.
Meal Timing:
Structured meal times to regulate blood sugar levels and curb cravings.
Snack Alternatives:
Healthier snack options to replace processed and calorie-dense foods.
Flexibility:
Allowing room for occasional indulgences to make the plan enjoyable and sustainable.
Common Challenges and How Dietitians Address Them
Weight loss journeys are rarely linear and often come with hurdles. A professional dietitian anticipates these challenges and provides solutions:
Plateau Phases:
Adjusting calorie intake and activity levels to overcome weight loss plateaus.
Emotional Eating:
Identifying triggers and teaching coping mechanisms.
Social Situations:
Offering tips to navigate dining out or attending celebrations without derailing progress.
Time Constraints:
Simplifying meal prep and suggesting quick, nutritious recipes.
Real-Life Success Stories
Many individuals in Chandigarh have successfully achieved their weight loss goals under Gagan’s guidance. One such client shares:
“I struggled with weight loss for years despite trying countless diets. Consulting Gagan, a renowned dietician in Chandigarh, was the best decision I made. Her personalized plan was easy to follow, and her constant support kept me motivated. I not only lost weight but also gained confidence and energy."
Conclusion
Sustainable weight loss is a journey that requires more than just determination; it demands expert guidance tailored to your unique needs. A skilled dietitian in Chandigarh, like Gagan, combines scientific knowledge with a personalized touch to help you achieve your goals effectively and maintain them for life.
By prioritizing individualized care and fostering healthy habits, dietitians play a pivotal role in transforming lives. If you’re looking to embark on a weight loss journey that’s both effective and enduring, consulting a professional dietitian is the first step towards a healthier, happier you.
