I'm proud of all 12 of the Irish bands due to fly to Texas for SXSW, who have decided to boycott the festival in solidarity with Palestine. In protest at SXSW's sponsorship by the US army and defense contractors who are arming the genocide in Gaza, they are not participating.

Während Gurriers gerade auf Europatour sind und bereits diverse ausverkaufte Konzerte, unter anderem in Hamburg, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Brüssel und Kopenhagen, gespielt haben, hat die irische Band einen kleinen Zwischenstopp bei der BBC in der Show "Later... with Jools Holland" gemacht und dort den Track "Approachable" performt.

SXSW weighs in after Texas governor tells artists pulling out of the music festival because of the US Army 'don't come back'

South by Southwest acknowledged artists who boycotted the festival due to US Army sponsorship.

Gov. Greg Abbott's dismissal of the protesters triggered SXSW's statement supporting free speech.

Despite the controversy, SXSW is maintaining its military sponsorship.

South by Southwest pushed back in response to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday after he demanded artists who pulled out of the festival due to US Army involvement not return to Texas.

Numerous bands and artists have dropped out during and in the days leading up to SXSW in opposition to the US Army's sponsorship of the eight-day festival. Artists have stated they do not want to associate with the US military and are protesting its support for Israel by not participating.

And to that, Abbott responded on X: "Bye. Don't come back."

[Video] Gurriers teilen Video zu "Top Of The Bill"!

Gurriers veröffentlichen mit "Top Of The Bill" die neueste Single aus ihrem Debütalbum "Come And See", das am 13. September 2024 über No Filter erscheint.

"Top Of The Bill" vereint den wilden Sound der irischen Band mit einem ohrwurmverdächtigen Riff, während sich der Song immer weiter aufbaut. Einer der persönlichsten Songs von Sänger Dan Hoff, der selber sagt: "It's a distorted love story, a warning to myself of a person I could have been."

Begleitet wird der Track von einem One-Shot-Film des jungen und aufstrebenden Dubliner Regisseurs Adam Hart. “I think the buzzword for the band was Twin Peaks as the lads are huge fans, but apart from that there are a few Shane Meadows tropes in there too, showing small vignettes of characters that populate the world of the bar.”

[Album] Gurriers kündigen Debütalbum

"Come and See" an!

Die irische Band Gurriers veröffentlicht ihr Debütalbum "Come and See" am 13. September 2024 über No Filter. Darüber hinaus kündigt das Quintett auch einige Festivalshows sowie eine ausgedehnte UK- und Europa-Tournee für den Herbst an.

Während das 21. Jahrhundert immer weiter fortschreitet, taumelt unser Planet bedenklich von einer Krise in die nächste. Anstatt sich passiv zurückzulehnen und zuzusehen, starten Gurriers mit ihrem Album "Come and See" einen erbitterten Gegenangriff auf das Unbehagen des modernen Zeitalters. Die elf Songs erforschen viele Themen, sei es das Ende der Welt, die unterdrückte Jugend von Dublin, der Aufstieg der extremen Rechten, moderner Narzissmus in einer überreizten und realitätsfernen Social-Media-Bubble, die Desensibilisierung gegenüber Gewalt oder ein Papst, der mit dem Glauben und der Liebe ringt. Inspiriert von den zeitlosen ersten Platten von The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The Chemical Brothers und Black Midi, ist "Come and See" kein gewöhnliches Debüt, sondern eine erheiternde Absichtserklärung von fünf Leuten, die es satthaben, sich höflich um das Chaos herumzudrücken. Aufgenommen in Leeds in den The Nave Studios mit Alex Greaves, sind die Songs eine explosive Sammlung voller Progressive-Punk mit kreischenden Gitarren und bittersüßen, messerscharfen Lyrics: “The album is a noisy, guitar driven odyssey of our disillusionment with the modern world”.

Die aus verschiedenen Teilen Irlands stammenden Gurriers lernten sich 2020 in Dublin kennen. Dan Hoff (Vocals), Ben O'Neill (Gitarre und Backgroundgesang), Mark MacCormack (Gitarre), Pierce O'Callaghan (Schlagzeug) und Charlie McCarthy (Bass) nutzen dabei vor allem die Monate der Pandemie, um an Songs zu feilen und sich für Live-Shows einzuspielen. Als die Gruppe an Halloween 2021 ihren ersten Gig im Dubliner Workman's Club spielten, hatten sie sich als Band schon bemerkenswert weiterentwickelt. Seitdem spielten Gurriers auf Festivals in ganz Europa und darüber hinaus, darunter Reeperbahn Festival, London Calling, The Great Escape und Pukkelpop.

Die erste Singleauskopplung "Close Call" ist ein eindringlicher Track über die Herausforderungen, mit denen die vergessene und gelangweilte Jugend Dublins konfrontiert ist: “Forced out of youth by violence / The dead streets / Is where they’ll meet.“
