A King's Fill
A King’s Fill
This was a spontaneous idea when I sat down to get some work done for the day. I was dry on ideas and I needed something to get me going. I decided to look up the word of the day for January 22nd, 2021 using Merriam-Webster. It took me longer than I wanted to get it done (thanks to random distractions and constantly scrolling through YouTube) but I actually like what I got out of it. I think I…

WIP: Welcome to the Crisp
Scarcity breeds sins of old.
It was a phrase she had passed a dozen times on the way to the cafeteria. In earnest truth, it was just the largest room in the industrial warehouse they now called home. A variety of chairs and surfaces (tables, turned over shelves, stacks of pallets and whatever else made a durable platform) were scattered around and there was a hole knocked out in one wall from which the food was served. The edibility and quantity was always suspect but eating something palatable was no longer a luxury. Kids often ran around with old magazines and tried to lick off pictures of sweets and cold delights - but it was a long forgotten dream.
All of which is why any act of gulosity was severely punished. Hoarding food or stealing rations was grounds for expulsion. Murder as punishment was rare at this particular enclave - though she had been at others who made the odd exception. Killing someone meant taking up too many resources - clean-up and disposal of the body the most taxing. Offenders were simply stripped naked (to reuse their clothes) and then tossed outside at the hottest peak of the day. If dehydration or sun-rot didn't get them, predators would.
She could hear the results of such a punishment as she entered for her mid-day meal. There was a loud banging on the outer metal walls. She couldn't exactly hear any words but her imagination was filled with pleas for forgiveness alternated with vicious cursing. The offense? Some newly arrived man had brought in some jerky without turning it over to the group.
And that was all it took. Not sharing was the same as stealing here - even a berry or a bean was enough justification. She eyed the bowl that was placed in front of her and never once forgot to say 'thank you'. There was a slab of dried beef at the bottom of what was mush or thinner. She made sure to whisper a prayer of thanks to the man outside as well.

Hello! I might be a bit late to the game but for the cafe ask thing: 24 flavors: What is your favourite word? and 27. Kombucha: What do you order on a pizza? Also just wanna say I love your blog and your energy. It makes me so happy!!
You’re never too late because the party never stops on my blog bby!! Also, welcome?? Not sure that I’ve seen you around, but you know what? Welcome to my blog, I sure hope you enjoy your stay <3 I never make any of my answers short and I’m consistently chaotic, but as long as you enjoy both of those things- then we’ll be good lmao
ALSO, thank you so much!! Y’all honestly make me so happy that I’m glad I get to reciprocate that love and happiness back. Y’all deserve some good ol’ fashioned happiness and if I can provide that? That makes me even happier <3
24 Flavors (What is your favorite word?): What a funky question to ask, this is awesome. Hmm, favorite word, huh? I can’t choose just once so honestly I’m so sorry lmao.
Burgeon : Basically to mean flourish, begin to grow rapidly.
Argle-bargle (yes, that’s a legit word) : Basically means meaningless talk or writing.
Bezoar : A hard small mass that forms in the stomachs of sheep or goats.
Gobemouche : Someone who believes everything they hear.
Superfluous : Exceeding what is efficient or necessary.
Gulosity : Excessive appetite; greediness.
Apologia :  A defense especially of one's opinions, position, or actions.
Reprise :  A musical repetition.
Verdigris : A green or bluish deposit formed on copper, brass, or bronze surfaces.
These are not necessarily my all time favorites, BUT these are words that I’ve learned from reading. I started trying to keep a list of words that I don’t understand the meaning of- like when I’m reading a book and I don’t understand a word then I write it down and look it up. It helps expand my vocabulary even if I don’t always use them.
Kombucha (What do you order on pizza?): Okay, now pepperoni is the best. Absolutely the best, but... I love Hawaiian pizza- the Canadian ham and pineapple. Pineapple 100% belongs on pizza and I grew up with that kind of pizza, it’s legit one of my favorites. So, before y’all come at me for my love of pineapple on pizza... you’re wrong, just sayin’ :)
LOVE YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ASK AND SORRY IT WAS ACTUALLY LONGER THAN I EXPECTED, THANKS BBY :)

Funny because i say im ghouling to refer to the season when i don’t usually crave food for the last few months of the year. I have an appetite for something and its never food. This most recent year’s ghouling period was nice, there was discpline and im working towards resetting my normal so I have a healthy relationship with food and im not ghouling or approaching anything with gulosity.

A non-binary short story
Okay, before I start this needs a bit of explaining. This story is in a tribe where people don't have names or genders until they turn 18. Then they have to complete a task to get their name and after that have to pick a gender (regardless of their sex). So here it is...
-
I touched the broken glass with my bare hand, red flowed staining the window, marking it with my essence.
I removed my hand, a ruby-coloured imitation stayed behind. Everybody watched silently.
"The child has been named..." called our elder, Valerious, who to get his name had to hold an entire mountain on his shoulders.
"They must no longer be known as the child of Epopoeia the poet and Gulosity the greedy, they are now Cristalline the understandable." I smiled as the elder pronounced my name. Cristalline.
After a few people completed their tasks and got their names, it was finally time to choose between the two options.
They called us in alphabetical order, each to choose something I wasn't yet ready for. Gorgonize the beautiful, who had to seduce 10 different people to get her name, was next to me, she already knew she was going to choose women, she had been using female pronouns for a while now.
Suddenly it was my turn.
"Cristalline the understandable!" Called the Elder, I looked at my mums, who were both smiling at me.
I gulped and looked at the two groups.
Was I a girl or a boy?
I closed my eyes and walked down the middle, creating a new group of my own.
