Did Saddam Hussein Launch a Nuclear Attack on Israel?
Back in the first Gulf War, Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein attacked Iran, resulting in thirty-four countries entering an alliance against him. Hussein’s response? Threatening to start a war with Israel if anyone attacked Iraq.
Rather than striking Iraq in defense, the Israeli government issued gas masks to all citizens and instructed them to keep them on hand at all times in case of chemical attack.
When the US-led coalition attacked Iraq in 1991, Iraqi missiles rained down on Israel. While the Israeli death toll was low during the second Gulf War, the experience had a lasting impact on the country. The weaknesses that had been revealed during the experience inspired the invention of the Iron Dome, the installation of bomb shelters in all new homes and a massive overhaul of Israeli security.

Saddam Hussein: A Controversial Perspective.
Introduction:
After rewatching the the execution of Saddam Hussein in 2006 I thought I'd do a blog on him. It was a momentous event that stirred global debates on justice, accountability, and the ethics of capital punishment. While acknowledging the atrocities committed during his regime, some argue that the decision to hang Saddam Hussein was overly influenced by political motivations, and that he may not have deserved the ultimate punishment assigned to him. I also watched ITN Exclusive: Saddam Hussein Interviewed on the Eve of the Gulf War (1990) on YouTube it is very insightful.
Contextualising Saddam Hussein's Regime:
Saddam Hussein, the former President of Iraq, undoubtedly presided over a regime marked by brutality, human rights abuses, and suppression of dissent. His invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and the subsequent Gulf War resulted in immense suffering for the Iraqi people. However, critics argue that the portrayal of Hussein as the epitome of evil may have been exaggerated for political reasons.
Influence of Political Motivations:
The execution of Saddam Hussein occurred amidst a tumultuous period in Iraq, marked by sectarian tensions and a fragile political landscape. Some critics believe that the decision to execute Hussein was influenced by a desire to establish a sense of closure and justice for the Iraqi people, as well as to send a message to other dictators in the region.
Flaws in the Judicial Process:
Detractors of Hussein's execution point to flaws in the judicial process, arguing that it lacked international legitimacy and transparency. They claim that the trial may have been politically motivated and that the rush to execute him did not allow for a thorough examination of the complexities surrounding his regime.
Exploring Alternatives to Execution:
Those who question the hanging of Saddam Hussein advocate for alternative forms of justice, such as a life sentence or an international tribunal. They argue that these options would allow for a more comprehensive examination of the crimes committed during his regime and promote a deeper understanding of the historical context.
Conclusion:
The debate surrounding the execution of Saddam Hussein remains highly controversial, with opinions sharply divided on whether he deserved the ultimate punishment or if alternative forms of justice could have been pursued. While acknowledging the atrocities committed during his rule, some argue that the rush to execution may have been influenced by political considerations, raising questions about the fairness and transparency of the judicial process. Ultimately, the execution of Saddam Hussein continues to be a subject of intense debate, prompting reflection on the complexities of justice in the aftermath of oppressive regimes.

28 FEBRUARY 1991 – Over the course of just 100 hours, U.S. and allied ground forces in Iraq and Kuwait decisively defeated the battle-hardened and dangerous Iraqi military, and President George H.W. Bush declared a victorious ceasefire on 28 February. During air and ground operations, the U.S.-led coalition destroyed over 3,000 tanks, 1,400 armored personnel carriers, and 2,200 artillery pieces along with countless other vehicles. This was achieved at a cost to the United States of 96 soldiers killed in action, 2 died of wounds, and 105 non-hostile deaths. With Kuwait liberated, U.S. forces immediately turned to humanitarian missions. They sorted out refugees, assisted the Kuwaitis in reoccupying their city, and helped them begin the long process of rebuilding. U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Corps of Engineer units set up food, water, and fuel distribution points and medical clinics. The American instrument of war became a force for peace. The long struggle of reconstruction was just beginning as most of the victorious U.S. Army combat units headed home. #ArmyHistory #USArmy #TRADOC #Forscom #DesertStorm #GulfWar #M1Abrams #M2Bradley #AH64 #MilitaryHistory #ArmyArt #thisdayinarmyhistory Posted @withregram • @armyhistory (at Forrest School) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpNRtbbO9ml/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I got to work with a Pastor on his Memoir who served in the Gulf War, he spent an ample amount of time all over the United States and he also spent a lot of time in Israel. Check out this clip of Pastor Glover telling his story. I definitely enjoyed working with him.

Stormin' Norman, at a 1991 Operation Desert Storm briefing with the press rocking a Seiko 7548 Pepsi quartz diver (literally right next to a can of...Diet Pepsi 😂) U.S. General Norman Schwarzkopf certainly didn't wear a military watch - on either wrist. While Commander of Operation Desert Storm, Schwarzkopf was wearing a Seiko 7548 when he led – at the time – the strongest combined military force the world had ever witnessed to evict Iraqi forces from Kuwait in 1991. It's somewhat amusing that rather than wear a single watch with two timezones, Schwarzkopf wore two watches, one on each wrist, and both were quite civilian. Fast forward to 1999, which witnessed Schwarzkopf’s 7548 garner an impressive $11,000 at charity auction, where it was auctioned under the title "Seiko Desert Storm.” The general noted, in a letter when he donated his watch to the Antiquorum auction house, "I always wore two watches during the [Gulf] war. The one on my left arm was set on Saudi Arabian time and the Seiko on my right arm was set on Eastern Standard Time. That way I could quickly glance at my watches and instantly know the time in both Saudi Arabia and Washington, D.C.” www.dcvintagewatches.com @dcvintagewatches #womw #watchesofinstagram #watchfam #wristgame #watchoftheday #DC #LA #SoCal #redbarcrew #DCVW #wis #edc #instawatch #fratellowatches #operationdesertstorm #gulfwar#wornandwound #wotd #klocksnack #GoAnalog #seiko #vintageseiko #Japan #seikoholic #seikoaddict #watchesforsale #forsale #seiko7548 #omega #heuer https://www.instagram.com/p/CKHVAYGrDxx/?igshid=121h62yyyjbra

18 JANUARY 1991 – FIRST USE OF THE PATRIOT MISSILE IN COMBAT In 1970 the U.S. Army began development of a long-range, all-altitude, all-weather air defense system to counter tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and advanced high-performance aircraft. The state-of-the-art system developed over the following years had a range of 70 km and a maximum altitude of over 24 km; after successful tests, it was dubbed the Mobile Interceptor Missile (MIM)-104 Patriot, and replaced existing defense missile systems in the 1980’s. The Patriot assumed the role of the Army's anti-ballistic missile system, which has become its primary mission. Batteries deployed during the Persian Gulf War scored the Patriot’s first wartime intercept on 18 Jan. 1991, when Iraq launched a Scud missile at Saudi Arabia. The enemy Scud was brought down by two Patriot missiles fired by BTRY A, 2d BTLN, 7th Air Defense ARTY, 11th BDE. In all, Patriots brought down at least 11 enemy Scuds in the theater. Other Patriot batteries deployed to Israel, intercepting numerous inbound missiles. #Armyhistory #USArmy #TRADOC #DesertStorm #Patriot #PatriotMissile #GulfWar #MilitaryHistory #AirDefenseArtillery #ADA Posted @withregram • @armyhistory (at Middle Tennessee Area) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnkOMyduz93/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“American deaths” were the justification for a $2 trillion war intended to prevent more. Of course none of us believed that. But that was the justification. It is impossible to reconcile that reasoning with being okay with 70,000 “American deaths.”
