1. H.O.P.E has the longest grind left for the crystalline ingots, but I play weaver main and she deserves it for the eventual SoTO specs

2. I’ve completed the collections for Aurora and the only thing I have left for Vision is the extremely annoying Jahai meta/mastery achievement and then the electrum

3. I don’t like Aurene’s Weight as much as the Juggernaut but I do love the variant possibilities of the Aurene weapons

4. I already have the Aurene rifle but the Predator would specifically be for an edgy murder mesmer I’m planning to make when the new SoTO weapon specs get launched down the road

hello, I just followed for your orctober stuff and scrolled through some of your blog and wanted to ask, what is guild wars 2?

OOOH BOY HERE I GO! ahem.

Guild Wars 2 is a high fantasy MMO, similar to maybe Final Fantasy Online. Guid Wars as a series is about as old as World of Warcraft, but has a much smaller fanbase; mostly because the company behind it, ArenaNet, seems to be allergic to advertisements (it's gotten better since the last two expansions).

These days, the core game is free, with only the expansions costing money. Well, some expansions, as they just throw in older expacs for free now. Even if you start with a free account, you can technically buy an upgrade by just... using ingame currency, which is a WILD concept to me.

Most notable features of the game are probably the character customization, free dyeing of armor, and a few thousand unique armor and weapon skins. Players often joke that the true endgame of GW2 is fashion (and they are RIGHT goddamnit). All five playable races are so ridiculously detailed in lore and design, it's incredible. Sylvari for example are not plain elves, they are full on plant constructs that grow from fruits on the mother tree. Asura are not just gnomes/goblins, they are a highly educated society of geniuses that would openly strive for world domination if it werent for their inherent bureaucratic tendencies.

The mounts in GW2 are among the best you will find anywhere, so much that World of Warcraft just copied some for their Dragonflight expansion.

Guild Wars 2 has a medium sized active player base, smaller than WoW or FFXIV, but they are an amazing community. We have veteran players, including me, who routinely patrol the starter maps to offer advice and maybe some healing to newbies (supported by the ingame mentor system). You might receive random mail from players gifting some cake. There's festivals, community parties, role playing, fashion contests, races and minigames.

If you are a seasoned MMO player, GW2 offers raids and the smaller strike system, which is being constantly expanded. Extreme MMO experts might find the game a bit flat, but that's only superficial. For beginners, I'd say the story is beatifully written. You can explore the open world, meeting players along the way (every map holds around 50-80 player at a time). You can choose any class and complete any content, including endgame. Any class, any race, (almost) any playstyle is viable, and nothing about your build is permanent, you can adjust your whole build on the fly.

Aside from the obvious MMO parts, GW2 also has structured PvP (5 vs 5 players) and the so called World vs World, which is a large scale week-long epic battle of three teams of around 50 players on each side (which btw is not as draining on the CPU as you'd think)

If you plan on giving it a try, I'd be more than happy to give you a more detailed overview of the game. This little chaotic hellhole of an MMO is very dear to my heart <3

right now... all guild wars 2.

previously I've done a lot of metro 2033, half life, jojo's bizarre adventure, digimon, katekyo hitman reborn... and then less of hlvrai, final fantasy vii, and fruits basket... gw2 is all i do for right now. <:)

3. what are your top 5 by kudos?

This is super skewed because I orphaned a tooooon of my more popular stuff but Nuclear Option, two other vrai fics, Lent (<- should be number 1 if we're being honest and true) and a fruits basket thing that i should have probably also orphaned. the overwhelming urge to orphan things to skew the data further. you have to hold me back

4. do you respond to comments?

yes but not in a timely fashion (last round took me. over a year before i replied to anything. pensive.

5. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I dunno about actually angsty.... the fic that makes me cry every time is butterfly bridge; I wrote it after having to put a pet to sleep. if I ever got around to writing more "portal to the metro" the ending would probably also rank up there. due to. the tragedies.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

proooooobably Lent? idk I feel like I get a lot of "fuck yeah that ending ohhh the catharsis" type reactions on Lent.

7. do you get hate on fics?

I have a number of times. sometimes anon but sometimes people put their names to it?

8. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

yes. sorry. the apologetic kind.

9. do you write crossovers?

not often... usually a crossover is a pretend thing just for me in my Imagination. however. portal to the metro... it was a roleplay between myself and a friend. and then i started writing it in earnest. and then i got tired. then i started writing primarily gw2 stuff. you understand. but someday I'll return to it. and then they'll all be sorry.

10. have you ever had a fic stolen?

um. kind of. when I was 17-18 I plotted out a fic I was working on and shared it with a couple of dear close friends. and then like a couple weeks later a massively popular person in the fandom in question posted my fic: their version. down to every little detail. 🙈 never found out which of my friends shared the planning with them.

11. have you ever co-written a fic before?

yeah, Pluto's Moon -- started 8 years ago, finished almost a year later... I wouldn't bother rereading it at this point but. it was a fun experience. we had fun. I also cowrote several chapters of a Reborn crossover fic with my long distance mmo friend when I was a freshman in high school. I don't think we ever got anywhere with it let alone posted it to FFN or anything-- I was handwriting short chapters between classes lol. I might still have those pages somewhere...

and then I think I would also consider portal to the metro a co-write in many ways. because it came from both of us :)

12. what's your all-time favorite ship?

well. I think Canach/Alba has been too prominent for too long for me not to say it. canon/oc numero uno!!!!!!

13. what's one WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

i dont even wanna answer and jinx it nooooo cry2. I yearn to finish everything... i guess maybe I have some weird misc smut fics I don't anticipate finishing. due to the strangeness.

dialogue is my dearest sweetest friend. my sweetie pee

15. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i LIKE it! thumbs ups. am I GOOD at it? thumbs in the other directions

Kingdom Hearts before I ever touched any of the games. (like 17-18 years ago)

I have no pacing control. I can't meet goals, OR i'll go full crazy and write 160k in 2 weeks. you have to watch out because that can happen to you too if you just go off your antipsych meds for a while

also filling in the stuff AROUND dialogue. so often i'll be editing a fic and just (sighs) dama (me) you (i) can't just have 8 lines in a row of dialogue. what are these people doing in between talking. and then dama (me) is like alright wise guy why don't you take a crack at it if you're so smart. and i do. but in the moment of writing i'm not super good at figuring out the in betweeeeeeens.

also I feel like ending scenes and such is really hard. also getting characters from point a to point b (locations) without doing a timeskip to "well here we are at point b!"

19. have you ever had a fic translated?

I had someone ask to do so with one of my metro fics, to repost on a Russian fanfic site; I wasn't particularly attached to the fic so I told them go ahead. but also I have no idea if it ever happened. heart hands. so maybe. there may have been another but I don't rember.

About Tyria Pride: could it be either earlier or later? I have missed it multiple times in a row due it happening during Midsummer :( or maybe have some after-party in next mon/tue or something. I miss participating in it

I feel this ask! We try to schedule it with consideration to Midsummer every year!

This year it was originally scheduled for June 29 & 30, and I was so happy we finally got a date that didn't conflict with Midsummer, but that weekend is also Twitch Con weekend. Streamers are a huge part of the fundraiser and we knew some would be out during that time. I was so gutted when we had to reschedule.

I will take this opportunity to note that we did run multiple pre-events in June, basically doing something every weekend, including 5 evenings of Fashion Wars, and an End of Dragons mini-march through Cantha 2 weeks before the main event, and there were 4 independently organised side events by various guilds! Lots of people who couldn't come to the main march made it to the Cantha march at least.

I do like the suggestion of doing post-events as well as pre-events, it's come up before so that's definitely a consideration I'll note down for next year!

Next year we are aiming for June 28 & 29 which will be 1 week after Midsummer, although the final date gets decided about 3 months in advance so here's hoping nothing actually comes up by then.

A bloody battle is what they call an official duel within The Bloody Lady. It is said that if an underling battles the boss and wins, they take over as the new boss. If they lose, they die. CAMUS : Mam. You must duel with me for the boss's position. Those are the rules. MAM : ………. EMMA : (Hopefully Mam takes the bait…) BLOODY LADY MEMBER 1 : Where the hell is this coming from!? BLOODY LADY MEMBER 2 : Isn't a bloody battle a bit old fashioned these days? BLOODY LADY MEMBER 3 : Camus is clutchin' at straws. The members merely scoffed at him. Not taking his challenge seriously. However, Mam crossed her arms and narrowed bloodshot eyes in his direction. MAM : But, Camus, you are no longer part of The Bloody Lady. You don't have the right to duel me. All you can do is sulk about the good old days. CAMUS : You are right. My life means nothing anymore. VICTOR : We're all part of the same guild. We agreed to give our lives. We want to protect it. LEN : Nah, I don't care about that. Camus said he was gonna win, so I took his side. You can't roll solo in this game and even if you are in a tribe, you can only hope someone cares to send support to your village. If you managed to not be attacked, and maybe have a 10k point village, and if someone with numerous villages, top 20 player sees your village, then your time has come unless you are strong enough to defend yourself against him, and maybe his guild. If you are very casual, log in maybe once a day or few times a week, and you border stronger players, that just happens to be in a top 5 guild, then expect to be farmed and eventually nobled/conquered, so you are building your village for the next player, who have likely played this for years and there is no mercy shown There are players who practically play damn near 24/7 with multiple people, and there are players who spend hundreds or thousands of $ Getting farmed by a much stronger player shortly after noob shield expires with no chance to defend yourself. Guild Wars 2 Fashion Week: Mafic

I can’t tell you how much trouble I had gearing Mafic. He’s an intelligent, high-ranking Inquest that is known for his certain fashion sense, with a love for turtleneck sweaters and long coats, but also has an affinity for Primordus’ fire power. Trying to balance this was rough, and heavy armor did not work in my favor, but I think I got it. He ended up with a mix of gear with the top half looking very sleek (and I found a heavy armor that looks like turtleneck sweater under his plate armor) and his arms and bottom half looking like they might be from Primordus himself.

GW2 Fashion Week 2017 - Day 8

AIEE you people started Fashion Week without me! ... good! Well, I don’t have much to show this year so there’s only gonna be two or three posts. First off, the Guardian who wasn’t ready for last year, and who I love so!

Character: Radiant was Makwa (Dragonhunter)

Makwa started life as Lyon Papaver/Aodh of the Cinders, but when he got retooled into a Berserker, I used the fact the species fit and you could change gender. Makwa is young, optimistic, a bit too logical, and utterly dedicated to the defense of the Golden City.

Outfit: Arcane Outfit. I love how it looks like a wanderer’s robes.

Back: Luminate’s Backplate, fitting with her idea of using Exalted artifacts to fight with. Also, she is one of the few characters with a canonical glider.

Dyes: Spite, Gold, Glint’s Isolation and Redemption. Fits with the gold and green energy Exalted theme.

Weapon(s): Auric Hammer and Auric Longbow. Again, shapeshifting exalted metal weapons.

HEY, REMEMBER THAT ONE SUMMER, IN 2019, WHEN I DID ALMOST NO ART BECAUSE I WAS DOING A THING? HERE ARE THE THINGS!!!

These were done for the Tyrian Gazette zine project headed by Alchemy Art, a zine worked as if it were a magazine within the world of Guild Wars 2. I worked with my gf @draegaa​ on an article in which a reporter went around looking at the fashions of the non-playable races. she did the writing, and I did the art!

We had many ideas of course, so I included not just the final images but the concepts that did not make the cut, such as the original skritt dress concepts above, and one for a tengu roller beetle racer!

Unique Chic: Street Fashion Across Tyria

As our regular readers know, Unique Chic is about finding one-of-a-kind and beautiful styles out in all corners of Tyria. Real people, wearing fashion not usually found in the tailor shops of Divinity’s Reach, or the armorsmiths of the Black Citadel.  All of our subjects were found going about their usual day, work or play.  This week features four subjects: an ambassador of the Dominion of the Winds, a craftswoman of the kodan people, a cheerful young skritt from Lion’s Arch, and a hylek Sun Priest in full regalia.

Tengu Ambassador

    I come across Takuya Gemsteel in Lion’s Arch, enjoying a book in the shade of the Grand Piazza. He is sitting, quiet and still, legs crossed beneath him, back straight. As I approach, he stands up and bows, talon to chest, introducing himself. 

    He is wearing an immensely elegant robe, black silk with long panels of deep green embroidered with thread of gold. The shoulders are trimmed in sable fur: dense, dark, and soft. He carries a dagger with an elaborate lacquered scabbard, gold filigree charms matching a pendant on his neck. Combined with his graceful, upright posture, the exquisite quality of his outfit gives him an air of sophistication and dignity.

    As an ambassador to Lion’s Arch, he is well familiar with the city. When not meeting with the Captain’s Council, he spends his time in the quieter places of the city, or admiring the treasures on display in the Black Lion Vaults. He was stationed here before the Battle of the Breachmaker, and retreated back behind the Dominion’s walls with the other tengu, but requested reinstatement as Ambassador when the tengu returned.

    I am curious why he would specifically request to be returned to his post here in the city.  His response is surprising.  “Lion’s Arch is a jewel of Tyria. Full of wealth, diversity, and fascinating architecture. The Dominion is a place of beauty and our walls keep it so, but there is much to admire about such a rich and welcoming city.”

Kodan Iceshaper

I am invited onto the enormous floating sanctuary, Deep and Troubled Waters, on the Sea of Lamentation. A rhythmic sound draws my curiosity, leading me to a part of the sanctuary where a patch of ice is exposed alongside the wooden walkway. A short female Kodan is packing snow and ice chips into a small crack, pounding it flat to form a patch. She leans against her ice hammer as she stops to speak to me.

    She is wearing leather work pants, thick tool belts on her waist and across her chest. The belts are embossed with geometric patterns, and a large, polished medallion rests over her belly. Sturdy gloves protect her hands while she wields her tools against the rough ice. These are practical clothes, but made with great care and artistry. Along with her quiet focus, they give an image of strength and industry, testifying to the fortitude of her people.

    She has lived on the sanctuary for her whole life, and trained under an expert iceshaper. Her beloved mentor was killed in a icebrood attack a few years prior. His death gave her even more motivation to keep her home strong and safe. She will not tell me what her name used to be, but after the attack, she changed it to Soundless Resolve.

    When she is asked how daily life goes aboard the Deep and Troubled Waters, she thinks for a long time. “Life was hard under Jormag’s eye. It is easier now, and work goes well, but the balance of the world is shifting. We must watch and wait. The work always continues.”

Skritt Gatherer

    As I’m walking in the Western Ward of Lion’s Arch, I see a skritt searching around some houses with a group of her friends. She is surprisingly engaging, and as chatty as one might expect from a young skritt. After Chirr’ikt introduces herself more articulately than I expect, she explains to me that the presence of many other skritt in the city helps with them all “think better.” 

   She twirls around enthusiastically, her beloved shinies glittering brightly. A long piece of tattered bright blue satin is tied around her waist, fabric luminous in the sunlight. It’s easy to see why the piece caught her eye. Her arms and tail are adorned with polished brass and silver bands. A string necklace with colored glass baubles decorates her neck. She is unbound by cultural norms and fashion trends. Whether she knows it or not, she is creating her own style: gaudy, cheerful, and lively.

    She is from the scratch in Hooligan’s route, and doesn’t remember very much from before the destruction of Old Lion’s Arch. She scavenges shinies from around the Western Ward and Commodore’s Quarter, occasionally running afoul of the Lion Guard, though she claims that she only takes discarded items. 

When I ask why she prefers to stay in Lion’s Arch if the Lion Guard keeps troubling her and her friends, she laughs. “The only place shinier than Lion’s Arch is the shiny gold city out in the jungle! Here I find all the shinies I need, and my friends and I can stay away from the scary monsters and trees. The guards are not so scary, only loud!”

Hylek Priest

    The Astrozintli Forelands in Sparkfly Fen is home to one of the largest and busiest hylek holy places in Tyria. When I arrive, many hylek are preparing for a worship ceremony in the main temple. One of the priests appears to be resting prior to the ceremony.  

    His ceremonial garb is remarkable in its extravagance. Golden chains connect golden armbands and cuffs. Shimmering cloth the color of a sunset forms a harness, belt, and patterned loincloth. Gilded medallions adorn the neck piece of the harness. He holds a ceremonial spear, with a wide, spade-shaped head formed of pure gold. The crowning glory of the outfit is a stunning headdress made of hammered gold, tail feathers from green and pink moas, and a large round citrine gem in the center. The overall effect transforms the priest into a figure of incandescent potency. The Sun come to Tyria.

    Priest Ilhuitl leads ceremonies at the Zintl Holy Grounds temple. He became a priest quite young, recognized by the elders of his tribe for his piety and diligence in the various ceremonies performed by the priests and priestesses. His trust and love for the creative power embodied in the Sun is immediately evident after just a short time with him.

    I ask him what the purpose of his regalia is, why the priests dress with such splendor for even routine ceremonies. He smiles warmly, spreading his hands. “The Sun gives all creatures life, light, and warmth. It is a small repayment to offer up things of beauty in honor of that gift. By wearing objects that resemble the Sun, we show that we recognize its power and are grateful for its protection.”
