Jenna is NOT in Marvel’s Secret Invasion series
Due to an apparent lack of fact-checking or proofreading on the part of a website, anyone doing a Google News search for Jenna Coleman might see an entertainment website claiming that Jenna Coleman, along with Emilia Clarke, is joining Samuel L. Jackson in the new Marvel Disney + series Secret Invasion, the trailer for which dropped today.
Of course anyone actually watching the trailer will see it’s Olivia Colman, not Jenna, who will be in the series.
This isn’t the first time this has happened and if these sites wanted to be taken seriously (here’s the article, by the way. It’s possible it may be corrected by the time you see it) maybe they should pay more attention to the info.
Sigh. In the meantime, with Jenna’s play now concluded, it’s possible we might not hear from her for a bit as she undoubtedly takes a well-deserved holiday. She’s been surprisingly quiet on social media during the run of her play - unlike All My Sons where she posted quite a bit during its run, she’s only done about six posts since January. So maybe we’ll see some holiday snaps.
As for her next project - well, that’s anybody’s guess. The Sandman Season 2 is expected to begin filming this summer but it isn’t confirmed that Jenna will be in it given the storylines scheduled to be covered apparently (correct me if I’m wrong - I don’t know Neil Gaiman’s comic) don’t have much if anything to do with John/Johanna Constantine. Klokkenluider, more than 2 years after filming and six months after its film festival debut, has yet to get a proper release (my prediction remains Netflix and with a new title, at least in North America). Jackdaw, her movie shoot that came out of nowhere just before Christmas and appears to have been completed in record time, remains in post-production, and her next TV series, Wilderness, is apparently not likely to air before the fall.
Other than that, one can hope she has a new film or TV project lined up. I accept being called selfish for this but I don’t want it to be another play only the tiniest fraction of her fans will ever see (I devoted a rant to the subject that I won’t repeat here). It would be nice for her to actually get The War Rooms out of what appears to be “development hell” (it was announced 2 years ago this month). I wouldn’t mind seeing her book a finale special for Victoria to put closure on that project, too. (And of course there’s also the possibility of her hitting the convention circuit too) Time will tell.

A Quiet Place Day One Reaction
I just walked out of the theater after watching A Quiet Place: Day One. Trust me, this film is a wild ride from start to finish. Let’s dive into my reaction and thoughts on this latest entry in the Quiet Place franchise. First off, if you’re new to the Quiet Place series, let's fill you in. This franchise is known for its nail-biting suspense and intense action. A Quiet Place: Day One stays true to this formula but with a fresh twist. The star of the show? None other than Lupita Nyong'o, who brings her A-game to this prequel. Now, I walked into this movie with high expectations. I was curious if it would be an origin story or a deeper dive into how people first reacted when the invasion began. The trailers left us guessing, but I soon realized I needed to lower my expectations a bit. This film doesn’t get deep into every character's backstory, but it delivers plenty of action and suspense. The cinematography is a standout feature. Some shots are so stunning; they reminded me of the best scenes from Civil War. The film is visually captivating and full of those iconic Quiet Place moments that keep you on the edge of your seat. However, there were a few disappointments. I hoped to see more of certain characters, but the movie focuses on the bigger picture of the invasion. Despite this, the pacing is solid, and the direction keeps you hooked. In terms of action, A Quiet Place: Day One does not disappoint. It’s a popcorn flick perfect for summer, with enough thrills to keep you entertained throughout. Just remember to go in with slightly lowered expectations and enjoy the ride. So, should you watch it? Absolutely. Lupita Nyong'o shines, and the suspenseful, action-packed scenes make it worth the ticket. It’s a great addition to the Quiet Place franchise. Check out my full reaction in the video, and let me know your thoughts in the comments on the YouTube Channel! Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and hit that notification bell for more movie reviews and reactions. Peace out! Read the full article

Main Teaser Trailer
youtube
The red lamborghini is seen slowly parking just outside of Iceberg lounge. The reporters and paparazzis started to gather around the car. A man in a navy suit, with black short hair and grey eyes, raised an eyebrow as he watched everything unfold.
???: Who's that?
He asks the guard next to him as the doors of the car slowly open.
Guard: You must be new.
The guards pointed his finger at the person who softly pulled a woman with his hand out of the car. Next to him stood what looked like that man's son.
Guard: That is Y/N Todd.
~~~
"Today, exactly 13 years ago, the mantle was passed onto me."
Y/N is seen standing in front of his batman suit. He was preparing for another night of fighting crime. No matter how long he wore it, he always questioned himself; how did he manage to become Batman?
"It's another night to remind Gotham what this symbol stands for."
Y/N fires his grappling gun and swings away as bullets fly behind him.
"What we stand for."
The same thugs who were firing at Batman a few moments ago were met with red birdarangs and pinned into a wall behind them. Both Batman and his sidekick Redbird landed in front of them, both sharing a father-son fist bump.
~~~
Different Batman was now present. He had black and grey suit with his mask covering his whole face.
Batman: Helena, get out of there right now! That's an order!
He yells into his comms as he jumps from one roof to another, avoding or killing parademons which terrorized Gotham. Some members of the Justice Society were fighting the same threat on the streets below and helping people evacuate.
Batman: God damn it!
He curses as he gets nothing but static coming through the comms. His heart skips a beat when he sees the two pairs of lasers coming out of the building, sending the upper part of the skyscraper down.
Batman: HELENA!
After Darkseid's invasion was defeated, Batman was seen standing in the center of the collapsed skyscraper. He picked up injured Helena who was in her Huntress suit and started to walk between the corpses of victims who didn't survive the fight between Darkseid and Superman in that skyscraper. He glared down at heroes of Justice Society, who were standing down in the street surrounded by cheering crowds. He knew they caused more damage to the city and caused more deaths while fighting the parademons than the parademons and Darkseid himself.
~~~
And now the curtain rises.
~~~
From the writers who brought you:
Dark Love
Brother of Robin
Webs Have Been Multiplied
I Don't Mind The Rain
~~~
Barbara: A massacre happened in Frank Miller's Opera house yesterday night.
Y/N in his Batman suit and Redbird land onto the rooftop which is overlooking the Opera house from which red and black smoke was coming out. Sun was slowly rising in the distance as the wind picked up their capes.
Barbara: The victims were left... horrific state.
Batman slowly walks past the police officers as he enters the stage from the back. He was instantly met with corpses and body parts splattered around the seats. Instead of blood, black and red roses were seen. It was hard to guess who from the victims had the worst death. He saw a pile of black roses on the stage next to him. He moves towards them and steps on the roses. What was just piles of roses instantly turned into a pile of blood.
Y/N: Oh God...
He silently whispers as he realizes that roses were just the illusion which was hiding the true horror under them.
~~~
TV: There have been sightings of what appears to be a Batman imposter.
Sound of guns firing echoed loud enough to be able to hear them on the streets. Police cars quickly came in front of the warehouse from which the sounds were coming from.
TV: Interestingly enough, this imposter appeared the same night when the massacre in Millers Opera house happened.
The police officers were running through the hallways of the warehouse as they wanted to reach the part of the building where the gunfight started to get more silent with every second.
TV: GCPD suspects this imposter is the one behind the massacre.
The officers ran into the scene where they were met with corpses of people who wore white masks on their faces. Some had their limbs cut off, others were killed by bullets and the rest had arrows in their heads. They only found one person alive who had a batman symbol marked on their back.
~~~
The stage is set.
~~~
Y/N: The letters meant for me, messages left on the crime scenes, don't get me started with the clues...
He sat down on the couch in front of the fireplace. He sighed as he glanced at Raven who was sitting next to him.
Y/N: I feel like I inspired this imposter?
Raven didn't say anything as she moved closer to him and put her arms around Y/N. The scene transitions to Bruce, who now looks older, sitting in his chair inside the Batcave.
Bruce: It is always how it starts.
The thugs with white masks were looking around the room, pointing their guns at any dark corner in the warehouse they were in. They knew he was here.
Bruce: Fever.
The thugs were too busy looking at the dark corners that they completely forgot about the glass ceiling above them, which shattered when black and grey silhouette flew through it. Directly going towards them.
Bruce: Rage.
Batman lands onto one of the thugs and gets up as quickly as he entered. He lifts his right arm out of the cape. Two barrels of a wrist gun were seen on the arm, and a second later, bullets started to fly from it.
Bruce: It is what turns good men...
One of the thugs gets cut perfectly into two halves. Both parts fall on the opposite sides which reveals Batman with a bloodied blade equipped on his left hand.
Bruce: Cruel.
The last white masked person was violently pushed up the wall. He looked down in fear as he was able to see a full black mask with grey eyes staring directly at him.
Batman: Where IS HE?!
~~~
The audience awaits.
~~~
???: Ah, all of you are sooo boooring with trying to rule this city from the shadows.
The members of the council of Court of Owls looked down on the stage to see a man slowly walking into the center of the room. He had a white mask with a smile and one eyehole covered while they were able to see a brown eye in the left eyehole of the mask. He wore a black suit meant for orchestra conductors.
???: When will you learn he is the shadows.
Y/N grabs the hand of one of the Talons and swings his body at another Talon. Y/N ducks as the blade of the sword passes above him.
Grandmaster: So what are you proposing?
The Leader asks the intruder as three Talons are sneaking up on him from behind.
???: It's very simple.
Y/N comes to a halt as he lowers his hand from the comms.
???: Let the Batman, kill the Batman.
On the opposite side of the catwalk Y/N was on, his imposter was standing and staring directly into him with his blade out.
~~~
Our performance begins.
~~~
Barbara: Can we even trust them?
Barbara asks the group which surrounded her. The group was made up of Bruce, Y/N and Collin.
Barbara: He may be Batman from another Earth.
Y/N sighs in relief as he puts the last Talon which was attacking him down.
Barbara: But.. that cruelty.
Y/N glances to the side to see the other Batman pierce one of the Talons into its throat with his blade. He then throws the same talon to the side as blood sprays out of the neck.
Collin: It is for you to decide, dad.
He replies as all of them turn to look at the other batman who was on the other side of the Batcave, putting bandages around his sidekick's leg. Camera zooms into Y/N's face as he thinks of a decision.
~~~
A costume, some make up, a spray of blood.
~~~
???: The Greatest performance in history of the multiverse
Just when Y/N was able to tackle the masked conductor, he felt a familiar sensation of cold metal getting around his leg. He is then suddenly pulled back.
???: Red and Black versus Black and Grey
The masked conductor was seen dancing around the room while playing a violin, the explosions releasing red and black smoke on the left side and black and grey smoke on the right side.
???: Vengeful Justice versus Order in Chaos
Y/N is seen sending powerful punches towards the other batman who was being pushed back towards the edge of the catwalk.
???: Trained from the best versus Killed the Best.
Y/N groaned as he fell on the glass which cracked from his fall. Y/N eyes widen when he sees the other batman jumping on him. The other batman lands on Y/N and send them both through the glass down on the stage bellow
???: Son of Mafia Versus the Damned Prince of Gotham
Screeching sound of metal could be heard as a blade gets stuck between Y/N's gauntlet blades. Both of them were now in a standstill.
~~~
My genius will be understood, eventually.
~~~
Raven: Your mad.
She comments as she tries to get out of the metal shackles , but to no avail as they were enchanted.
???: I'm an artist, all artists are mad.
~~~
Y/N: What.. is this?
Y/N hears the chuckle coming from behind as he goes through all the pictures, newspapers which were presented in front of him. The masked conductor approaches him slowly as he also glances at what Y/N was looking at.
???: You see dear Y/N. Behind every mask, is another mask.
~~~
Batman: You took the persona of a bat too seriously.
He tells Y/N as he looks around the gigant Batcave which was their base. Collin looks up at his dad's imposter which was standing next to him.
Collin: And you took the persona of Dracula too seriously.

Born of Wrath - Ruins of Wrath
I want to elaborate on this post because I think it's important how the whole boss area is set up.
First of all, the whole Shattered Realm this week feels different. It's just a vibe and some aspects of the whole area. But the boss room is definitely the most interesting.
It's in a Hive warship and the centerpiece of the room is something like an elevated podium from which you have a good view towards the big Taken ball in a strange device hovering in the air. This was shown during the reveal trailer as well.
The rest (with pictures even!) under the read more:
This is the same device located in the Shrine of Oryx:
It almost appears like the one in the Shattered Realm is positioned to look into the Shrine of Oryx from above. This structure, btw, is a communication device that the Hive on the Moon used to talk to Oryx. Now, obviously, no longer used to talk to Oryx and instead, they most likely use it to talk to Xivu Arath. This would also make sense as the Shattered Realm is Xivu's domain. That room is a place from which the Hive in the ascendant plane can communicate with the Hive in the Hellmouth, vice-versa and beyond. Presumably.
And of course, there's the elephant in the room.
A strange dark crystal bound with chains overlooking the Shrine communication device structure. I'm not the only one to be unnerved by this, nor am I the only one to have the thought that this is Osiris' prison. A place where real Osiris is suspended in some sort of hellish Hive version of cryo. The chains are what really sell it to me. If this were bigger, I'd probably say it some sort of a Hive creature being held here for some future boss fight, but the size just doesn't fit.
Furthermore, I've said a few times now, but I am beginning to suspect that Xivu Arath and Savathun are not really the enemies they're trying to tell us they are. It's important to know that the Hive have a very strange and utterly alien social structure. To them, murder and torture are expressions of love. They believe that this is what gives them strength so if you kill someone a lot, it means you love them a lot because you're helping them grow stronger.
Of course, Savathun is legitimately an exile to the Hive. She has practiced heresies. Goes without saying. The problem is that we kinda took her word for a fact that she is being hunted by her sister while not really thinking about how we have no confirmation of this from the other side. We don't know what Xivu thinks. Is she tolerating her sister's heresies for a grander plan? It wouldn't be the first time that Savathun is scheming in order to strengthen the Hive. Xivu knows her sister. I am finding it harder and harder to accept that Xivu would simply hunt her down on behalf of the Black Fleet without thinking it through.
After all, their last known interaction was Savathun preparing Torobatl for Xivu's invasion. They were on good terms. Savathun helped Xivu to obliterate the Cabal. And what was the whole plan with Osiris if not Savathun preparing OUR system for Xivu's invasion? These two are mirrors of each other, but with slightly different execution due to the fact that humanity has something the Cabal do not: Light. So obviously, infiltrating the Guardians required a more careful and insidious plan.
I believe this plan started a long time ago, but was finally fully put in motion, you guessed it, in Immolant. In Immolant, Osiris is exposed to the whispers of Xivu Arath, is drawn out to fight her and is eventually stripped off his Light BUT he is left alive.
There are two points I have to mention that do not align with what we know from Immolant (and Immolant is the most reliable source out of them all):
1. Savathun's speech from week 1 - specifically, the cutscene. Quote: “I found a form more pleasing to your eyes. Osiris was lost. Lightless. I saved him from Xivu Arath and assumed his shape.” This is a lie. Savathun did not save him from Xivu: Sagira did. Sagira's sacrifice is what pushed Xivu's influence away: "Blinding Light erupts from Sagira's core as she splits apart. A wave of Light surges and tears across the chasm. Her sacrifice cleanses every trace of Xivu Arath's presence. The sigil: erased. The cryptolith that supported her projection: destroyed." 2. Page 3 of the new lore book Ripples (still not on Ishtar as of writing this so I'm linking to my post with the relevant bit) - For easier reading:
"Savathun was weak to allow their deaths. To cede ground to the Celebrant; to Guardians." - This is not what happened. Xivu Arath lured Osiris to the Moon, Xivu Arath spoke to Osiris, goaded him into killing everyone and LAUGHED while he did so, because Osiris' rampage gave her tithe. Not only that, but Immolant describes the Celebrant carving a ritual to drain Osiris' Light away and let him die. The Celebrant then leaves. So it wasn't Savathun who ceded any ground.
"The Celebrant steps forward. A massive cleaver dangles from its hand, weightless. The beast carves a rune into the stone on either side of Osiris, its eyes locked with his. It nods to him, and then turns to the sigil.
"All tithes to Xivu Arath. War Dominant. Endless." Its tone is soft rasp and soot."
And:
"The Celebrant drives its sword into the cliffside stone above Osiris's head. The cryptolith erupts in neon flare.
"Die well, Osiris." The Celebrant bows and withdraws from sight into Luna's depths.
Wisps of Light hemorrhage through his skin, trimmed in blood and drawn around the blade embedded above him as if it were a nostepinne spike."
This is very odd. There's a lot of inconsistency and lying going on. Hell, Xivu didn't even take Osiris' Light at all. The attempt was made but Sagira made sure the ritual isn't finished by sacrificing herself. Kelgorath was lied to, both by Savathun AND Xivu Arath to whom he pledged himself (and died for in the first mission during Season of the Lost: Kelgorath was the Wrathborn we fight just before we enter the portal to the Mara & Osiris cutscene).
This, to me, implies that they're in on this together. It's important to note that when it came to the Cabal, everyone thought that Umun'Arath was being influenced by Xivu, but it was actually Savathun doing it on Xivu's behalf. It is possible that all the voices Osiris was hearing were actually also coming from Savathun on Xivu's behalf. But if that was the case, then Kelgorath wouldn't have felt the need to renounce Savathun because she was the one who helped Xivu, instead of "ceding ground" as he claims. This inconsistency makes me believe that Savathun's and Xivu's courts don't really know the full scope and details of their mutual plan. The Hive sisters are literally lying to their own people for the benefit of the plan.
We only have Savathun speaking to us, but never Xivu Arath. What are her thoughts on all of this? What are her thoughts on Savathun? Is she really hunting Savathun at all? Obviously, Xivu would know that Savathun will most likely betray her, but if Savathun lays down the ground work for Xivu's invasion (like on Torobatl), why would she care? She knows her scheming sister well enough. As long as there's war, Xivu will be fed her tithe, making herself stronger and stronger. Savathun's schemes are benefitting her.
Which leads me back to the chained crystal in Shattered Realm.
Savathun's bargaining chip, Osiris. Where is he? Who is looking after this most valuable prisoner while she's trapped in her own crystal? Who would she trust to make sure he stays bound until the time is right? Who has the power to keep him bound while she's playing the game on the other side?
Well, it's Xivu Arath of course. So it would not surprise me for this crystal to really be him, bound and chained in Xivu's domain, under her watchful eye and kept in place by her power.
And, of course, where did we find "Osiris" on the Moon when we went to rescue him? In the Shrine of Oryx. The same place that the chained crystal is located in, on the other side, looking down to the Shrine from the ascendant plane.
I didn't mention it until now, but the post's title is a reference to both Immolant and Shattered Realm. "Born of Wrath" is the name of the first chapter of Immolant pt. 2, where Osiris first encounters the cryptolith, visions and voices of Xivu and gives her tithe. It would be fitting if Osiris' wrath that was "born" in that moment led to his "ruin" and eventual imprisonment in the "Ruins of Wrath."
I am looking WAY too hard into this, but it really isn't a Destiny lore analysis unless I'm a little unhinged. :)

rules: answer the questions and tag nine people you want to get to know better/catch up with! Tagged by @hesayshesgotboyfriend and @aurawolfgirl2000 💖💖💖!
Three ships: only three? ummm, can I say Liu Sang/caring relationships? okay okay I guess my main reading is pingxiesang right now, bc the dmbj liu sang writers just keep turning out the good good stuff (but like, a multishipper is gonna ship, yo)
previous ship: cql wangxian, otp of course, i'm still reading a lot in untamed/mdzs fandom, though it's kind of migrated to all mxtx fandoms now, especially svsss
perennial ship: i have so many, but i'd say cherik? x-men is a forever fandom but more specifically X-men First Class cherik bc god they really made it as shippy as the comics. one of the pure otps, i don't really ship either one with anyone else
Last Song: In the Air Tonight, Phil Collins bc i had the radio on driving home from getting groceries
Last Movie: re-watched Venom in honor of the new trailer
Currently Watching: still making my snailway through Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, Reboot season 2 now that i have a vip pass, and re-watching Leverage to get in the mood for 2.0
Currently Reading: re-reading Smoke & Mirrors by Tanya Huff, probably gonna re-read the rest in the series too. sometimes you just need a story about an ex-street kid turned production assistant for a low-budget vampire tv-show, with a gay crush on the second lead, filming in a literal haunted house, and oh yeah, he might be a wizard?
(i don't know why more people don't rec Tanya Huff bc i've loved just about everything she's published, from full fantasy to urban fantasy to space marines and more. i was reading Tanya Huff before i discovered fan-fiction and when i did i realized it felt familiar. everyone who's like "where can i find adult books that have that fanfiction feel?" should give her series a try. seriously: gay wizard on a shoestring early 00s Vancouver tv set (anybody remember Forever Knight?), trying to wrangle possessed actors, shadow-demon invasions, hit-and-run possible goddesses? and his cranky protective vampire ex-patron. if you're looking for a new read that has that comforting fanfic feel and isn't gonna rip your heart out I cannot recommend this series enough (you might end up wanting to read the precursor series, the Blood vampire/werewolf detective series that Tony Foster is a side character from, but you don't need to))
Tagging anyone who's in the mood bc I don't know who all hasn't been tagged - @xia-xueyi @mage-pie @traineecryptid @heymeowmao @mejomonster @mojoflower @epicwalrus if y'all feel like playing? 😘
#i'm doing way more comfort media now that i'm vaccinated than when we were under full pandemic shutdown#sort of the opposite of how it was supposed to be?#during quarantine i was jumping into new fandoms and media like crazy and enjoying it#but idk maybe it's the health insurance kerfuffle i just am looking at stuff i've read/watched before#of course part of it is sequels coming out - watching the originals to get prepped for the new content isn't that strange

"Mortal Kombat" (2021) second viewing thoughts
I watched the 2021 "Mortal Kombat" movie a second time and watched some videos on YouTube from fans who shared their thoughts on the movie. I now have some new things to add in addition to my full review.
Ok, so, one thing that they made a huge mistake on was making the film 1 hour and 50 minutes. It's not even a 2-hour movie, and yet, they tried to cram in 20 hours worth of crap:
Too many cooks in the kitchen
The sheer number of characters featured in this movie was ridiculous and because the writers/producers decided to do this, most characters lacked proper development -- or any development. I mean, let's take a look at the list of characters in this movie (only the "fighters," not the side characters like Cole's family and whatnot):
Cole Young
Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion
Bi-Han/Sub-Zero 1.0
Sonya Blade
Jax Briggs
Raiden
Shang Tsung
Kano
Liu Kang
Kung Lao
Nitara
Mileena
Reiko
Goro
Kabal
I mean, damn. That's a shitload of characters! It's actually unnecessary to have that many characters, especially if they weren't even going to reach the 2-hour runtime mark. Reiko and Nitara, for example, could have been removed from the story and it wouldn't have made any difference. Hell, even Mileena didn't need to be in the movie (nothing against her character -- I like Mileena but in the movie, she was extremely underdeveloped).
For Mortal Kombat fans, at least they can fill in the gaps because they know these characters. However, what about people who know nothing about the games? I can't see them finding much enjoyment in this film, and that's a problem.
The goal of mainstream blockbuster movies such as this one, one that is meant to launch multiple sequels, is to draw in as many people as possible. You would think they would want this movie to appeal to those who aren't familiar with the games. I mean, it could even make some of those people want to play the games. As it is, though, this movie is too heavily rooted in the fans putting the pieces together.
Why is it not 2+ hours?
Ok, I get it: it's very difficult to pitch 3-4 hour movies nowadays. "The Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" movies got away with it because they are based on highly detailed, well-loved books. You can't just treat such legendary writing like fantasy fodder. You go all out!
"Avengers: Endgame" was three hours long, and it worked because they had a) enough material for such a runtime, b) the sheer popularity of the franchise behind it, and c) it was an epic finale for a massive list of films. You couldn't make "Endgame" 2 hours or less and expect it to be good.
Now, "Mortal Kombat" cannot get the budget of a Marvel film (or any Disney property, let's be real) -- many films cannot compete with the amount of money Disney can pour into their movies and series. MK is also not a ground-breaking, incredibly written fantasy story with extensive world-building like "Lord of the Rings." Yes, MK has a lot of stories and a lot of characters but it isn't even in the same league of quality as Tolkein works.
(Don't hate. I am just stating my observations here.)
However, even if they couldn't make this MK movie 3+ hours long, they should have gone for 2.5 hours. 1 hour and 50 minutes just isn't enough time. Add in 40 extra minutes, and you have much more flexibility.
Honestly, you could make 3-4 hour MK movies since there is so much content and so many characters, but realistically, it probably won't happen. So, the writers and producers have to do their best with what they're given, and....they cut this film waaaay too short. Going forward, they need to expand the runtime of the sequels. They need to. Otherwise, we'll keep getting mediocre films and maybe fewer sequels than originally planned.
USE YOUR BEST "TRAIT" FFS
The smartest decision the creators made was casting Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion. He's a great actor, for one, and he just FITS the role. I mean, I look at him in this movie and, yep, that's Hanzo. They couldn't have picked a better actor for such an iconic character but.........they barely used him.
When you look at it in two ways, it's quite disappointing and confusing: Scorpion is just as popular and necessary as Sub-Zero to the MK franchise. They're like.... Godzilla and Kong for Mortal Kombat. Sub-Zero got a lot of screen time in the movie but Scorpion was only in the movie twice: at the beginning and at the end.
I mean, WHY?! We had a bunch of time dedicated to a new character with Cole, someone who isn't actually necessary for the story. Yet, we put one of the most iconic characters from the games on the back burner?
NO!
They made a smart decision but then they did something dumb with it.
If they make sequels, then omfg, FUCKING USE HIROYUKI SANADA.
Multiple sequels already planned?
While watching this video, I found out that the actor who played Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, Joe Taslim, has signed on for 5 movies, which includes the one we just got. This makes sense because Bi-Han does become Noob Saibot after dying, but that's beside the point: this MK movie series planned to be at least 5 films long.
Granted, that's not nearly as many as in the MCU films that lead up to "Endgame," but it's certainly promising. This is a chance for the writers and producers to fix some of their mistakes and flesh out the characters more as well as add more coherent details to the story.
I'm guessing the goal is to have the movies leading to an invasion of Earthrealm, ala "Endgame." I don't know how they will go about it, but I hope that, in addition to the 5 movies, we get spin-offs that focus on specific characters. The MCU did it, which helped develop the huge list of characters that ultimately made it into "Endgame," and this made it easier for the writers to focus on the story as character development was already done. If the MK movies do something similar, then this could be a good series of films.
The biggest problem, though, is that they got started on the wrong foot. The 2021 film is definitely a clumsy attempt to introduce everyone to this movie adaptation of the games, and it could significantly hinder their progress going forward. I mean, you start off wrong, you have much more work ahead of you if you plan to fix your mistakes.
It's not impossible, though. It's still early -- like, the first movie. We have at least four more to go. If the writers and producers can get their shit together, then they may pull it off.
And let's be real: I think MK is LONG overdue for a good movie.
The trailer and opening scene
The trailer for the "Mortal Kombat" movie was pretty epic, as was the opening scene of the film. Actually, the first scene almost doesn't fit into the movie because it appears to be from something of...better quality in terms of writing and development.
Now, imagine the whole movie was as epic as the trailer but also wonderfully crafted like the first scene. This could have easily produced a much better MK movie. They probably should have focused primarily on Hanzo, to be honest, and have Bi-Han there as well as the antagonist, and have some other characters on the side but not too many. I think that would have made this movie fantastic and would have fixed the issues with character development and poor plot progression.
Final Thoughts
The 2021 MK movie is still decent entertainment and worth watching a few times. However, I truly do hope the writers learn from their mistakes moving forward and give the people something much better.

Michelangelo x Reader Fanfiction 2014/2016- Oneshot
"We're not monsters."
New York City was home to a lot of strange things. But never in your life did you imagine that you would actually see mutant ninja turtles. It was crazy. You were a rookie officer. Your world revolves around law and logic. Someone got murdered, there was always a reason. A disgruntled spouse, angered stranger. Or even a pissed off sibling. No matter what, in all your cases there was always some reasonable explanation. Not this time. Not with this.
As you stood with your gun pointed that day, all you could think was not everything in the world could be explained. As you stared at the mutated beings before you, your stomach dropped. Not because the impossible was standing right in front of you. You were thankful there were other officers present to witness this, even Lieutenant Vincent. But what struck you was the look. The look on the orange clad turtle's face. He looked hurt...broken and the words being spat at him.
Monster, freak.
Despite all your training in the academy against lowering your weapon in the face of danger, you couldn't bring yourself to keep your gun up. For a split second his blue eyes caught the movement. And you were positive some of your colleagues were questioning your actions. But you didn't care. No one deserved to be treated like that, human or not.
~~~~
"Are you kidding me! I want a rematch." you grinned. "Not a chance Mikey I have to get to work. Unlike you my job actually requires that I be there during the day. " You spent the majority of your morning absolutely slaughtering Mikey in Call of Duty. And like most guys, he found it hard accepting defeat. You stood up, fixing your belt, and grabbing your hat. "I'll catch you guys later. Lieutenant Vincent told me you're helping out on the sting operation. I've got to say meeting you guys was the best thing to happen. If we keep it up crime will be almost non-existent in New York." Leo offered a smile.
"We do what we can to help." Ever the humble one.
"Yeah, plus I'd never pass up a chance to kick some butt!" Ah and Raph, ever the brute.
"Of course Raph." you laughed making your way out of the lair.
"Hey Mikey don't forget it's movie night. I'm picking the movie this time!"
"Sure thing!" he called back.
It took a while to get used to everything. After they helped take down an actual alien invasion, it was sort of expected that you joined forces. You supposed your boss realized they were way out of their comfort zone, aliens weren't a norm in the police department. The turtles were then awarded keys to the city, and they continued to protect the city from the shadows, offering assistance whenever necessary. When you got to know them, you realized just how amazing they really were.
Their intelligence, strength, loyalty, humor. It was incredible. Like April, you got pretty close to the turtles. You were shocked at the development yourself, because in the beginning you were a little more scared than anything. But, you were also sympathetic. No matter what you did, that look was forever engraved in you. You guessed that's why you were so close to Mikey. You felt like you needed to protect him from the world. Which was ridiculous since he could pretty much handle himself. That didn't mean he was bulletproof. Maybe that's why he shone the brightest. Always cheerful and smiling. That added with his general adorableness, it caught you. Hook line and sinker.
~Movie Night~
As you walked into the lair already changed in a pair of sweatpants and a loose hoodie, you searched the area for the turtles. You tilted your head when you only saw Mikey setting up popcorn and drinks. "Where is everyone else?" you questioned. He perked up when he saw you.
"April invited them to another basketball game." Your eyes grew a little wide. Mikey was never one to pass up a game, especially if April was the one attending it. "Y-You could have gone if you wanted to. We could always have another movie night."
"It's fine, I promised you. And a ninja always keeps his promises. " He placed his hands together bowing and you grinned, jumping unto the couch. "Alright then, let's get started. "
"Shell yeah! " he dropped down right next to you, giving a mini presentation on the snacks he gathered. "So on the right we have nachos with a little cream, if you're feeling a little peckish. On the left, a fresh box of pizza with the ultimate assortment of cheese! And of course, an all time classic, buttery popcorn for your nightly cravings." You were smiling the entire time. The world didn't deserve someone so pure.
"What movie are we watching, please have action, please have action." he was doing a little prayer. You grabbed the remote, clicking through netflix. You stopped on the Legend of Tarzan.
"I watched the trailer, this is supposed to be awesomely epic." you spoke. Mikey peeked an eye open, and you could see the interest spark as he quickly read through the description.
"What are you waiting for, play it!" His excitement was akin to a child, and you stifled your laughter as you clicked the movie.
~~~
To say he loved the movie was probably an understatement. Mikey's eyes never left the screen the entire time. You weren't sure he even really moved when he got some of the snacks. There were so many points where you thought Tarzan was dead. Every part proved to be just a tease. When it was nearing the end you could tell. Jane was standing looking out at the rubble, clearly devastated that Tarzan might have died in the explosion.
You could almost feel Mikey holding his breath, hoping that Tarzan wasn't actually dead. You smiled when he released it softly the minute John walked up behind her. They kissed, and you fought a blush, looking away a bit nervously. This wasn't the first scene between them that left you flustered. The short love scene in the middle had you more than a little bothered. You thought Mikey would make some joke about it, but he was quiet through the whole thing. As the credits started, and the music of Hozier's better love filled the room, you found your eyes drifting back to Mikey. The longing reflected in his hopeful sapphire eyes. "Mikey?" he turned to you, and you swore you saw tears in his eyes.
He wiped it quickly, laughing. "That was an awesome movie brah! It did not disappoint." His usual enthusiasm wasn't there, you could tell. It sounded almost forced.
You took his arm before he could move out of reach.
"I'm sorry Mikey." he was now confused.
"Why are you apologizing?"
In all honesty, you should have done it sooner. That day when they called the turtles monsters. You never apologized. And even though you weren't the one who said the words, for a split second you thought the same. Your ignorance could have cost you the best friends you'd ever had.
"That day with the police, what they said to you, it was horrible. We were all in the wrong. I never told you guys how sorry I was, how sorry they probably all were for judging you guys. It wasn't fair. "
His eyes shifted. He knew exactly what you were talking about.
"It's fine. I guess I sort of expect it. Sensei always told us it wouldn't be easy for people to understand what we are. I guess that's why Raph and I wanted so bad to be human. Deep down I..I still want that. Certain things I won't ever be able to experience, not with the way I am." He must have been referring to the movie. You thought you imagined it, but he seemed extra attentive whenever the couple showed up in scenes.
"You mean love.."
He didn't need to answer, his eyes said it all. "Mikey, I don't think you need to worry about that. You don't have to be human to find love. If someone truly cares for you, they won't care. " you leaned closer, hand reaching out to touch his cheek. You could feel him tense, eyes never leaving you.
"I don't care..." Mustering up all your courage, you raised unto your knees on the couch, matching his height. Deciding that it was now or never, you closed the gap, kissing him softly. The feel of his lips, they were heavenly. Far different from what you imagined. And you'd imagined it a lot. At first he didn't move, you weren't even sure he was breathing properly. And you expected it. After a few brief seconds you pulled back, gauging his reaction. You blinked a few times, licking your lips. Mikey still looked awe struck. He opened and closed his mouth a couple times, trying to search for the right words. Finally he settled on a sentence.
"Did you just...kiss me?"
"I did." you flushed. You hoped It was welcomed, because it was what you'd been longing for shortly after knowing him. Now it sort of made sense. This whole time you thought it was because you wanted to protect him from getting hurt, but the truth was, you cared for him, more than you initially realized.
"I don't get it, you're..you're human (Y/N). Why would you-" you raised a finger, pressing it softly to his lips. "It doesn't matter. I'd like to think if our roles were switched you'd feel the same about me. Do you...feel the same?" You were marking his lips, and Mikey gulped. All the movies, video games and comic books, he thought he would be more ready for such a confession. Yet here he was, completely speechless.
"I....I..." Why couldn't he find the words. He knew how much he felt for you. But as it stood he never even tried pursuing anything for obvious reasons. Now hearing you say you didn't care about all of that, and even kissing him. What else could he possibly hope for. He just wishes he could put that into words.
It was cute, they way he stumbled for the words. Your need to feel his lips again returned, and your other hand came up going around his neck as you slipped into his lap. His hands moved to the couch clearly not expecting the bold move. You snickered, leaning next to his ear.
"You know I used to think you were a player with all your smooth words, but are you secretly shy, Michelangelo." you cooed softly. When you pressed a kiss at the side of his neck, he let out a shaky breath. Your fingers trailed down his chest, so firm, strong. Muscular. You were still littering soft kisses along his neck.
"If I kiss you again, I'd prefer it if you kissed back." Before he could fully prepare you leaned in, sighing in content. Kissing him was everything. When he started to get over the shock of the whole situation, his hands came up hesitantly. You hummed when you felt his hand on your back, and the other slipped into your hair. You were pressed firmly to his body, and the minute his lips slanted over your own, you were sure you went to heaven. How could something so simple feel so good.
Mikey's hands on your body was just what you needed. As time passed, he seemed to be more sure of himself. He opened his mouth, and the moment your tongues touched you moaned. Mikey let out a soft groan, trying to match the intensity that you were pushing. Your hands were wandering over his body, and you should have probably shown some restraint, because even though his brothers weren't in here, they could come back at any minute. Not to mention Splinter was still somewhere in the lair, hopefully sleeping. The sound of bodies filing in alerted you of exactly that. They were back.
Mikey pulled away hurriedly at the sound, and now all three turtles were standing there gaping at the scene.
"I-It's not what it looks like!" Mikey defended.
It was exactly what it looked like.
"Guys seriously, on the couch. " Leo sounded unimpressed.
"No wonder you stayed back. Mikey you sly dog." Raph walked over smacking his younger brother behind the head.
"Come on Raph!" you just stayed planted there, smiling. You liked the little moment, but you really wanted to get back to kissing. When you saw the way they seem to settle around the area to tease Mikey you frowned. Guess there was only one way to get rid of them. You grabbed both sides of his cheeks, smashing your lips to his in a searing kiss. Almost immediately you could hear the groans of disgust.
"Mission success." They didn't stick around after that. And once they were all gone you grinned down at him.
"So...does this mean that you're my girlfriend?" Did he even have to ask. You rolled your eyes, reconnecting your lips.
It was a definite yes.

Paparazzi (Daisy Ridley x Reader)
Request: This is a Dasiy ridley x fem reader where the reader is a new makeup artist for Daisy and over time they begin to fall for one another, but then paparazzi gets a photo of maybe a private kiss shared between the two, and then dasiy gets stresses and accidentally takes it out in the reader. But like they make up at the end!!! By anon.
Words: 923
A/N: I've been a little inactive lately concentrated on the last chapter of my series so I figured I'd write the request I have in my list. Hope you like it!!
"Oh, no" you mumbled looking at the screen of your phone, worried about the photograph displayed over the screen. "Daisy's not gonna like this." You said sitting in one of the chairs in the trailer you normally used to apply and touch up the makeup of your lover. For now it was just you waiting for her to come back from a scene but you were more than sure this was not going to like her in any sense.
"What am I not going to like?" Daisy said stepping inside of the trailer. Playful as she was, she approached to you to press a soft kiss over your lips "Hi, by the way."
You doubted for a moment before handing her your phone, which she took with insecurity. Then she saw it.
It was a series of pictures taken from a distance that showed the same trailer you were in, Daisy's trailer. The photos showed how the young actress greeted you, her makeup artist. The first one was simple hug only showing your arms wrapping around her waist, a simple friendly hug, as some would call it but the last picture was the two of you sharing a lovely kiss, a kiss that was supposed to be private, a kiss the cameras weren't supposed to know about.
You saw how the subtle smile that adorned Daisy's lips faded away the more she scrolled down founding the pictures of you and her were everywhere.
"How long did you know about this?" She asked serious still analyzing the photographes.
"I just found out." You told her.
You knew how much she had struggled with the media in the past, you knew she could get really affected by the things would say about her, you understood it.
Being in the spotlight of fame was sometimes too much to handle, it was often so invasive of the private life of the actors and paparazzis were the worst of it, always trying to get a new picture, hunting people to get a photo, because the right picture could get them a good amount.
Paparazzis were also one of the reasons you both decided to keep your love rather like a secret, though not for your close friends and castmates, just for the cameras.
"I can't believe it!". She growled as the anger started to show in her face. "How did they even know we were here?"
"Well, they want pictures of the costumes and everything the can get from the movie" you said trying to see things objectively. "They seem to know where's everyone all the time." You talked from experience, photographers were always aware of everything.
"No, this is different," said you loved one walking from side to side of the trailer, stress and fury spreading over her delicate yet very expressive features. "Nobody, except from the crew knew we are here."
"Then maybe they followed someone" you added. "It was an accident, Day, please calm down." She was still watching the phone, scrolling through the images and even reading some of the comments, mean comments and good comments but all of them just gossiping about her. Then one of them caught her attention.
"This says the photographer received information about the location from a makeup artist." She read out loud, meeting your gaze with a questioing stare when she was done reading.
No, she couldn't think that, could she?
"Was it you?" She asked cold.
"What? No! Of course not!" You answered, a bit offended by her question. You would never betray her like that. "Why would I do that?"
"To get more people to know your work," she rushed to say "is that why?"
"Daisy are you hearing what you're saying?" You stoop on your feet. "It wasn't me."
"But who else would it be?" Ridley was really stressed, walking around the small place, it was starting to stress you out too. So you stopped her, gentle holding her by the shoulders.
"Listen, Day. I know you're a little panic right now but just walking around it's not gonna change anything" she looked at you and nodded softly. "Now, it wasn't me who told the paparazzi. I would never something like that"
She waited silently, paying attention to your every word.
"We wanted to keep our love out of the spotlight, we were careful but I guess someday someone was going to find out" you explained.
"You're right" she sighed "I'm sorry, I lost myself for I bit but this is incredibly invasive, it's not correct" she finally murmured "this kiss was private" she complained.
"I know" you tried to make her relax caressing her shoulders softly. "We'll figure this out, together"
She smiled softly at you before pulling you into her embrace, holding you close to her body.
"Thank you, dear" she murmured.
"Anytime, love" you told her.
You stayed like that for moment before she broke away, the playful smile back on her face.
"I should be changing now to the other costume before the director comes and hurry everything up" she chuckled.
"Yeah, you should" you giggled watching her walking towards the small bag that contained her new clothes. In the way she gave you back your phone.
"On the other hand, you look really cute in those pictures" she teased with a grin. "I'll be back in a minute so you can do your magic" she told you.
"You don't even need the makeup, hurry up" you said with a smile before she entered the the small bathroom in the trailer.

S4 Trailer analysis
You wanted analyses? Well, here you go!
I don’t pretend to see everything and know everything; I’m just sharing with you my interpretation and my thoughts (and a lot of my excitment too).
I already did this kind of “analysis” for all the clips of the first episode of season 2, so if you already read them, it’s clearly the same kind of thing.
Anyway, hope you’ll enjoy!
(I allowed myself to take the trailer’s screenshots from @inmyarmswrappedin, thank you for sharing them in the tag!)
--
I don’t want to take to much time with the date changing color because a lot of people already talked about it. Just, it’s really symbolic to pass the 9th April from yellow to white to say that this date is long gone; and then showing the 3rd September in yellow to say that it’s the new date.
ANYWAY! Let’s get into it!
--
Okay, first row of quick extracts:
First shot and we have a worried Amira, walking alone. “The season is about her and the problems she needs to deal with, alone”, that’s clearly what they’re telling us here. (I love this light scarf btw)
Okay, first I thought she was smoking and I was like “EXCUSE ME? What the hell is happening?” but then I just opened my eyes and breathed again. We have Cris, maybe Viri in the background? The two other hands I’m like “I don’t know but maybe Eva/Joana and Lucas?”.
We have Amira in the middle of the shot, as if the world was turning around her, but she’s not “a part of it” you know? She again clearly seems worried. We understand here that she doesn’t feel that comfortable in her group of friends.
Finally, we see our queen SMILING! I kind of feel that the entire trailer is composed by parallels between two worlds (like for the poster of the season). We were with the girl/boy squad and now we have a new character that I suppose to be a girl from Amira’s association (the “morocco” poster). We also were with a group and here there’s something more intimate with only one person. The colors were cold, here they’re warm. Clearly, this shot is here in opposition, in contrast, with the one before (AND DAMN I’M HERE FOR THAT).
Amira alone again, it closes the loop and the first “row of quick extracts”. She seems confident, maybe she does her makeup or something?
Oh, I haven’t said it yet, but GOD ALL THOSE SHOTS ARE *chef kiss*.
--
“I know we said we'd see each other. / I know we accorded a meeting.” when the old date appears, come on… Stop being so amazing would you? Plus, the fact that she starts talking when the dates appear is just the kind of small details in the editing that I love.
--
Okay… We’re back here. I first wanted to compare the two trailers, but it seems that they removed the old one… so, let’s use my messy memory.
Amira is confident, looking straight to the camera, even a small (really small) smile/smirk, but the chin still a little down, so… I have mixed feelings about this shot (confident but not THAT much).
Anyway, I think they just wanted to connect the two trailers. Btw I think that anyway we were supposed to have a second trailer since we have the same shot? In the first trailer Amira is strong and confident about her beliefs and she’s even “angry” at all the comments she receives, but as we’ll see, in this trailer, she seems pretty lost.
--
Second row of extracts:
Lucas spilling his drink on Amira… I don’t know what it could mean, but since we kind of “know” what will happen, I would say that it’s another way to show the “I don’t know if I feel that accepted/comfortable in my group of friends anymore.”
Okay, THIS, this is brilliant. (Plus, I guess this is our Spanish Yousef? Ok, OK, he’s cute.)
Both boys in the same side of the shot with Amira’s back and both looking at her with heart-eyes and with a more than cute smile; well, it’s just brilliant to introduce them that way.
AND AGAIN, the shots are showed as parallels/opposition.
(I don’t know if this shot is an extend of the shot with Dani just before, because in a way, I think it could fit, I really don’t know. All I can say is that she’s opening the door at someone she doesn’t want to see.)
I think that all the quick extracts are in Amira’s head (the Amira who’s looking at us in the trailer). Because after seeing the boys, we have again Amira alone and, in her room, kind of thinking about all of this and even praying. I think that it’s a way to show us, the kind of guidance that her religion is for Amira; when she doubts, she turns toward it. I LOVE THAT. They’re showing us so many things.
--
“Sorry I stood you up / I'm sorry for not showing up.” when this face appears. Damn, she seems so lost, confused and scared… The mouth is falling, she doesn’t look at us anymore, the frown and her eyes… phew… I’m not ready to see her suffer…
If I keep my theory that this Amira is reacting to her own thoughts (the extracts), it clearly shows that the boys are confusing her, like, A LOT.
(Oh, and maybe if we try to fit the sentence with the shots, maybe she stood up one or the two boys?)
--
Third row of extracts:
I don’t know how to interpret this shot, but DAMN IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL. (Maybe it’s the Koran? So the symbolism of the religion is back)
Some Amiris content. I’m here for that, like, I’M HERE FOR THAT. Just a quick thought though. It’s like Amira is cheering up Cris (I’m not ready to see her also suffer).
Um… Is it from the same scene? Are we really gonna have a friendship between Amira and Alejandro? Damn Skam España, I’m not ready for that. Btw, I have nothing to say because it’s clear that they’re smiling and happy (Just, Alejandro with teary eyes, that’s cute).
A Mosque with a wonderful shot again, wow… We still have the really important place of religion in Amira’s life, and the fact that it shows up after some moments with her friends, and maybe her role of “advisor”? I like that.
And then we’re back at something “dark” and “negative” feelings. It seems that she’s doubting, scared? Just look at her eyes… (small parallel to s2 and Cris in the car)
Is it a symbolism that shows that even if there’s her friends and religion, she’s still troubled? Confused?
--
The more we progress in the trailer, the more we see Amira in distress… It’s so at the opposite from the first one when she was strong against all the comments. Here, all those thoughts are really invasive and are confusing her so much. Her eyes were closed and now she even covers them, she can’t hold all this pressure anymore.
--
Fourth row of quick extracts, which is clearly shorter than the others:
Okay, these three shots clearly need to be analyzed with each other. It’s kind of a mirror. We have Amiris, we have Amira-Cris-and the girl from the beginning (I guess?) and then we have Amira and again this girl (I’m really not sure).
The first picture, we have an Amiris hug but… it’s like Amira doesn’t want it? So maybe a not that positive moment?
The second picture, it seems like Amira is in the middle of a conversation between the new character and Cris. And again, it doesn’t seem like a “good moment” you know? Amira is like “My goodness what am I doing here? I don’t want to be here. Send help.” (pinched lips, raised eyebrows and a little too opened eye.) The new character is like “Sorry but, it doesn’t work like that” and Cris is like “Oh… I really don’t know what to say right now…” (not sad, but… lost?). It’s not an argument, but it’s not a calm nor joyous, nor friendly conversation you see?
The last shot is with the new character (I guess) taking pictures of Amira in an AMAZING place what the? I LOVE THAT.
What I’m trying to say with all of this is that in the first picture Amira doesn’t feel good with Cris, then we have kind of a ““conflict””, the moment when the two worlds collide, and then we have a positive (?) moment with the new character, but not Cris. Meaning that Amira is starting maybe to choose one of her two worlds? THIS IS SO INTERESTING AAAAAHHH.
--
Still a completely confused Amira here. She’s still talking while the extracts stop, maybe meaning that she’s completely overwhelmed.
--
Fifth row of extracts:
These two shots follow each other and we have a clearly happy Amira with Spanish Yousef.
We ALSO have a clearly happy Amira with Dani, which is YES a parallel with the two shots from before (interesting, Dani always shows up after the other boy).
“I needed time to process everything that's happened. / I needed time to process everything that has happened to me.” stops here.
“I needed time” was present while we had Cris and the other girl on screen. She needed time with her friends (most important friend) “to process what happened” with the two boys? With 6 pictures and a well-placed sentence, the producers show us one of the most important plot (I guess) of the season (a freaking love triangle, aaaaaaah).
A confused and clearly overwhelmed Amira here… As I said, the more we go through the trailer, the more we see a completely lost Amira.
Those are clearly judging eyes my girls (or at least, not understanding eyes? angry? disappointed?). Maybe it’s showing the fact that the girls are not going to help her? Are going to left her? (there’s not Cris here btw, good sign? I hope.)
And here the distress at its highest point… Teary eyes, her mother (I guess) holding her, since most of the time it’s Amira who’s holding and supportive everyone, it’s… har to watch (I’m going to cry so much with this season I’m not ready). An opposition? The girls are leaving, but her family is here for her?
--
To reinforce my theory that this Amira is thinking about the extracts is her looking to the right, it’s the sign of someone trying to remember or I don’t know, thinking about something.
--
Sixth row of quick extracts:
Amira’s reaction to Ruben coming to kiss her cheek is the entire fandom when a clip with him will show up. No but more seriously, I can’t wait to see this scene (and everything that his presence implies for Crisana/Croana, because, come on, why would they make him come back then?)
I AM NOT READY TO SEE THIS WONDERFUL WOMAN SUFFER.
This shot is beautiful… And I think it’s Amira and Dani up there. (I think it’s from the same clip than a another shot with Dani a little higher, in the fourth row of extracts.)
Again, these two shots are mirroring each other. Amira is talking with both boys and to be honest, I think that’s great, communication. (And come one… a talk on swings? Aaaaaaaah) Something I just noticed, for the first picture, it’s like Amira doesn’t want to talk with Spanish Yousef and he seems a little disappointed? (it’s like his smile/mouth is falling.)
--
I don’t have a lot to say here. Juts the fact that she’s silent and just remembering/thinking? about everything that happened.
--
Seventh and last row of quick extract:
It’s the first time we see Dani without a parallel with Spanish Yousef. And COME ON, the CLOSENESS. It’s clearly here to show the “tension”, the attraction between these two (even if clearly I think that everyone already noticed it).
Again, it’s an Amiris scene but… there’s this kind of tension here? Like none of them seems joyous or cheerful. Amira doesn’t smile, her face is closed, we could even say that she’s lost (and not sad but kind of? Maybe even annoyed?), while Cris has the “I don’t know what to do/say” face.
NOPE- NOPE. Take it back, I’m not seeing her suffer again. NO WAY.
More seriously, this scene seems so… powerful? It’s like the camera his turning around her, or at least, the camera is clearly moving and um… she’s alone in the shot? I don’t like what’s happening. The mouth is falling, the eyebrows are down, the eyes are teary, I think you all understand it, she’s worried, maybe even lost. I don’t see anger though; it’s just pure worry and I have this feeling that she’s ready to burst into tears? (I don’t know why, just a feeling I’ve got, deep down).
Plus, the fact that Joana is shown just after a shot with Cris? I don’t like it (I already said that no?). And also, not all the characters are shown in the trailer (the boys), is it meaning that she’ll have something important to do in the season? We’ll see guys, but I really can’t wait discover her storyline.
Dani and Amira, again. I think it’s from the same clip with Ruben and MAYBE the party with Lucas spilling his drinks.
Okay… I’m not confused, but almost. This parallel is… strange. We see Dani at the party, we see Spanish Yousef (btw I think it’s also coming from a scene we already saw some shots before) and now we have Dani again, but this time we see AMIRA (and omg this shot is so beautiful with her bringing her hand near Dani’s cheek).
I really don’t know how to interpret that because it seems like Dani is taking more space than Spanish Yousef in this sequence of extracts, especially with the fact that we see his back and Amira smiling at him, AND ESPECIALLY if I follow my thinking about being in her thoughts. Are they already telling us Amira’s choice? (I don’t think so, but, it’s interesting).
And then, AND THEN, we have THIS, and omg I love that. Nora with a supportive and understanding gaze, both girls holding hands, Amira being vulnerable and clearly lost… It’s… wow. Plus, the fact that the sequence of extracts stops with Amira confiding in a friend? (clearly showing that, even if all of this mess is happening around her, she will find someone to help or at least advise her) especially Nora? I love it, really. We all know the symbolism behind the Sana/Noora talk and if Skam Sspaña is really going to do THIS, I mean, it’s powerful.
--
The fact that she leaves the shot still confused shows us that there’s still a lot to come and that this trailer shows us nothing compared to what’s coming. I love that. Really.
And, “Should we meet up and I'll tell you about it? / What if we met and I tell you about it?" OOOOH, HELL YEAH, I’M HERE FOR THAT AMIRA!
More seriously, I like the fact that even if we have a clearly lost Amira in this trailer, the song closing the trailer says “I’m the boss”, showing that she’s going to be strong and that this season is gonna rock.
--
Soooo, what this trailer is telling us about season 4? SPOILER, it tells us A LOT of things.
We will have something with Amira not feeling accepted, or kind of having mixed feelings about the girl/boy squad; but she will also find new friends (aka the new girl character). Cris/Amiris will have an important role in this season since we saw her many times. We will see Amira’s life more in depth with her relation with religion, photography and we’ll also see her family (the hug with her mother). With Ruben and Joana’s worried face, I guess we’ll have to face some Crisana/Croana drama (wouhou). We will maybe also see Nora and her healing process after Miqhell (I really hope so). OF COURSE, we’ll see how Amira will deal with her feelings for two boys: Dani and Spanish Yousef (damn, if it’s not him, I think we’ll all be clowns).
And in a wider picture, we’ll see how a Muslim teenage girl is dealing with her emotions, her life problems, and her identity during ten WONDERFUL weeks.
--
Phew… It was long to write all of this. I surely missed A LOT of things, and a lot of ideas will come to me in the next two weeks (stay tune I might reblog and write some stuff), but it’s really something I wanted to write right now since this trailer is really amazing.
Plus, just something to conclude. The trailer is here to build the hype. Remember, they know that we know the storyline. They clearly can “““bait””” us, and try to make us see things that are completely different from the actual season. So, stay critical. But anyway, they did an amazing job with this trailer and I think we’re gonna have a wonderful last season for Eskam.
I hope you enjoyed reading me; have a nice day and try not to hyperventilate whenever new information about the season come. See you soon!

Let’s do this. Trailer analysis and compiled s3 information time.
(Please forgive the black bars, the only way I could get the frames were full-screen screenshots.)
So Michael and Book are looking good, looking casual. I dig it. I mean, clearly they’re gonna fall in love, and I support them. Also, obligatory Grudge. Sonequa’s hair is a helpful marker, because it looks like she’s got a few more scenes in the next eps before she gets the braids. More on that later.
Also, Frakes leaked that the crew gets reunited with Michael in e3, so I guess that means the next ep will split between catch up with the crew and Michael’s adventures with Book?
Pretty sure this is Disco’s arrival in the future, doing ye old trek lean.
Short-hair Michael is buying dilithium or other Federation antiques. We’ve seen that black fringe on Sarek’s costumes in the past, but that doesn’t really mean anything.
Real talk, I have no goddamn clue what this is. Maybe an explosion on Book’s ship?
A shuttle. Would bet good money this is Keyla, the Andorian, and Grudge.
Saru and Tilly on a walk. I think Saru’s outfit is the same as the one he wears while making a speech next to Michael, but I’m not sure.
THEEEEEEEM
This trailer really gave Joann so many good lines and stuff. That’s what I like to see.
Jo says “there she is,” which I’m guessing is in reference to either meeting up with Michael and Book or Earth/Terralysium? The trailer clearly wants us to think it’s the latter.
Oh, I just know Adira is gonna be a standout character for me already. Paul, that’s your kid now.
When I first saw this, I thought that this might be Pike, against all odds? But it’s clearly not, just a Trill in yellow. Michael in command gold and with braids.
A planet entirely covered in shields? This aint star wars.
Jola at their stations, Nilsson on the right, and an unknown woman to the left who I will henceforth refer to as “Discount Nilsson” or “Discount Discount Airiam.”
Go Book Go!
That’s Michael and the Emperor near the blast. Also, what appears to be Nhan fully in the fucking air on the far right. Ya think Georgiou is going to get better extensions this season? Me neither.
A battle on some sort of industrial planet, probably after a starship that I found too boring to add to this but appears in the trailer crashes into a building.
I don’t know the Andorian at all, but I’m gonna go ahead and declare this Gays And Theys Solidarity. Also, is that my queen Detmer piloting a shuttle like I said she would earlier? FUCK NO THAT’S BOOK’S SHIP LOOK AT THE BACKGROUND YOU’RE DOING AMAZING SWEETIE
We saw this scene in the trailer, but guess who we didn’t see! Hello Tilly! Nice to see the costume department remains doing you dirty and putting you in the weirdest tunic-oufits. Is this gonna be a repeat of the season 1 finale?
Maybe Saru just has the one Scrubby Away Mission Outfit. For what it’s worth, this is the same outfit Michael wears in the “time passes” segment of the first trailer from way back when.
Looks like Adira convinced their dad to break out of the museum lifestyle and try out some new minimally-invasive tech. Weren’t you just in a coma, Paul? Anyways cool stuff. Probably important that Discovery is able to instantly travel without dilithium. Almost like they planned it or something.
I support them.
Pretty sure this takes place in a turbolift, judging by the background. Also, Michael remains in Command Gold.
Adira fulfilling their destiny to be the One True Space Gay with Michael. Also, nice to see they dipped into Tilly’s tunic collection. When are we gonna see Grey? Is that Grey on the right? Or just Adira tripping balls, per Discovery tradition?
Rhys is eating popcorn. Crew movie night? I mean, in my dreams they found like some documentary on Pike’s life and are watching it but that seems unlikely.
From left to right, Detmer, Tilly, Jowo, Nhan, Rhys, and Nilsson. We also know from the earlier trailers that Stamets is around there somewhere.
Book and Michael absolutely getting their shit wrecked.
A Diverse Fistbump. Dare I say it, Bryce/Rhys? Or Rhys and Jowo. I’d take either, man.
Oh, I’d forgotten about this plotline from last season. What a treat.
Tilly being proud of Michael? Perfect. Michael back to science silver (I say “back to” because they’ve got the new badges, implying this is later in the show. Remember when Wilson Cruz leaked the new badge design on insta like, last year and had to take it down? I do.)? Not ideal but I’ll take it.
HUGH AND NHANNNNNN
Nice to see that Rachel Ancheril might not have to suffer through aging makeup for the rest of Nhan’s life. Dunno where they’re at. Where’s Pollard? At least we know she lives through getting the new badges, courtesy of Wilson Cruz’s instagram.
Adira fucking, drowning. Paul, stop letting your child go into (glowing) pools unsupervised.
Hold the fucking phone. I am so confused by this frame. I spent minutes pouring over it. That badge in the middle, that’s got to be Tilly’s from s1, right? And maybe the others are hers and she’s gotten promoted? Fucking wrong! They belong to someone named Murphy! Who the fuck is Murphy!?!?!
Convenient that the name and serial number of this ship got blown up. Anyways, I think that’s the old Starfleet headquarters from 3x01?
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ^-^
Oh wait, I did find it to be important enough! Spoiler alert, the ship crashes.
And finally, what I can only imagine to be a classic and sappy toast in the cafeteria. Probably “to science” or something like that. New badges. I spy... (from left to right) Stamets in a corner, Rhys, Saru, Owosekun, Bryce, Sonequa Martin-Green’s body double in silver, Book, Tilly, Detmer, Reno, Nilsson.
Hold on.
TILLY WHY ARE YOU WEARING COMMAND GOOOOOLLLLLLLLD

TLNM musings, part 2
Okay, here I ramble about problems with the movie. Ended up adding more stuff since I first wrote this :’P
Screentime and characterisation of the other ninja:
One of the biggest complaints from fans... they're all introduced individually with very different personalities, they’re told they each have a special element they control, making you feel like they should each get some moment to shine and affect the plot of the movie, but then none of that happens. Ultimately you could take out all the ninja and the story would be the same, you don't even necessarily need them for Lloyd's character since his journey of reconnecting with his father and bringing his family together can still work without them. It's so sad because if you read and watch extra material, you can tell thought went into their personalities, but we never get to see this as they're all just lumped together, mostly there to support Lloyd's development.
For someone who hasn't seen the show, it must feel a bit off seeing characters with distinguished personalities and no payoff for it; take Zane for example. Imagine not knowing anything about the characters and seeing one of them is a robot, for some reason? You wonder why he's a robot, what significance that has for the plot and why it's important for his character (I mean they missed a big opportunity to develop Zane from always trying to fit in and seem like a “normal teenager” to accepting that he's different but that that doesn't mean he's less valid), but then this really specific characteristic is never expanded on except for comedy purposes. People probably thought “oh, guess it makes more sense in the show”, but this just detaches viewers and makes them feel like they're missing something if they haven't seen the show beforehand.
Sigh, still gotta give the crew credit for fitting in a load of little subtle details about the ninja, I had to rewatch it a couple of times because there were things I didn’t notice at first, like Kai sliding down a bannister in the Temple of Fragile Foundations and falling off :’D
Group dynamic:
Another thing that bothered me is that the movie isn't that good at making you care about them as a team. They're already established as friends but I wish there were more material showing us how much they care about each other. The Kai hug scene was 10/10 but then when Chen and the other cheerleaders started picking on Lloyd, nobody said or did anything? In merchandise it said Kai is a hothead who isn't afraid to speak up or stand up to people, then show it in the movie! Him and Nya should have been on the verge of tackling that guy to the floor! Ok, I can see Lloyd asking them not to get into fights as it makes people hate him even more and he probably feels guilty if one of the ninja gets into trouble because of him. This would still have given more emotional connection between the characters but we're never shown it, except in the novelisation where Cole tries to block Lloyd from his locker so he doesn't see the insult written on it, I think. But again, we shouldn't have to read/ watch extra material for that.
Instead of moments showcasing the ninja’s friendship and close bonds, we got the opposite- everyone turned on Lloyd incredibly quickly for one mistake. Sure, it was a pretty big one and resulted in Garmadon taking over the city and their mechs being wrecked, but Lloyd was the only one doing anything about Garmadon at the time and he didn't exactly know what the consequences of using the ultimate weapon were; it's not like he knew it could potentially hurt his friends. In fact, how did the ninja know he used it anyway? That would mean they already knew about it and what it could do, yet Lloyd was not told? In which case, how can they blame him?? Damn it Wu, why couldn't you just tell Lloyd that using the weapon would unleash a cat that could destroy the city, instead of vaguely saying the weapon can be dangerous in the wrong hands. That's taking too many pages from TV Wu's book!
Honestly, it's like the ninja were just one character either shunning Lloyd or supporting him, depending on what the plot needed :/ That scene where they're talking with Garmadon while carrying him through the jungle really rubbed me the wrong way because first, no one seemed to care that Lloyd is so snippy because he's been forced to work with the man who made his life hell, and second they joke about Lloyd with that very same person and imply they don't respect Lloyd as leader, as Jay says he doesn't usually want to listen to him when he's talking? What??
Lloyd and Garmadon’s relationship:
I mentioned this in part 1, but they really didn’t execute this well- I feel like they had so much fun playing up Garmadon being the worst dad in the world that they forgot to give him redeemable qualities. It took me a second viewing to realise his relationship with Lloyd was actually pretty messed up, because they played off his despicableness as comedic and glossed over it by suddenly giving him a flashback to make it seem like he’s sorry. They wanted to go for the father-and-son-have-issues-but-reconnect story, and had Lloyd say “I wish we didn’t have to fight all the time” in his emotional ending, but that’s a line usually present in a daddy-issue story where both have a part to blame and there's issues with communication. In this, though? Lloyd did nothing wrong! It was just Garmadon being trash, and there wasn't even a particular scene of him recognising and apologising for his actions- not the bit about driving Misako away, but how he treated Lloyd after.
The message is all mucked up - hoping to find some good in neglectful parents is just gonna get you hurt, and in a story like this it would make more sense for the protagonist to realise they don't need validation from this guy, shouldn't feel like they have to keep connected with toxic relatives just because they're family, and that they should focus on the friends and family who actually love them (although, whether Lloyd's friends were even portrayed as liking him is a different story). I mean, Koko could just teach him to throw and catch! Does he have to have two parents just for that?
Tone and humour:
I think another main reason this movie didn't do as well was its more childish tone and dialogue; unlike the previous two movies, it was marketed at younger children. One of the main reasons TLM and LB were so successful is because of the self-aware jokes that could actually be enjoyed by adults too, while in this movie I may have properly laughed only a couple of times. Plus, in its effort to connect with kid's humour it just got cringy in some parts, like the Ultimate Weapon compilation. It would have been funny if it was ironic, like Amazing World of Gumball style, but it just didn't come across like that, so I can see why many jokes fell flat for older audiences.
People probably had different expectations for the overall tone as well- everyone loved the previous LEGO movies because of their constant barrage of action, witty jokes and a ton of references. This was never the selling point of Ninjago, but TLNM didn’t manage to capture the show’s dramatic style and deep lore-driven plot either.
The writers:
Okay last thing. This movie had three directors, six producers, six screenwriters and seven people working on the story. Compared to most animated movies, that's a lot, and its shows. It feels like they had a few different ideas and themes and couldn't quite patch them together, with vague messages like “looking at things from a different point of view” being thrown in as well to try and link it up. I guess at the end of the day, this is a father-son story, and that makes it very difficult to fit in a power-of-friendship plot at the same time, but still. Also, the shifting plot and ideas is really clear in the trailers, I mean half the stuff there wasn't even in the movie, it's as if the entire story was changed!
Final verdict? I think an overall theme with this movie is that the writers wanted to overhaul Ninjago to introduce it to new viewers, but also wanted to keep the fans happy so shoehorned in lots of elements from the show without giving them enough development. This just disappoints fans and alienates general audiences, which is a problem since Ninjago doesn’t have a huge following already backing it up like LEGO Batman did, and could have been the pilot for more original LEGO lines making it to the big screen. It was a technically amazing movie, with beautiful animation and visuals, an epic soundtrack and stunning voice acting, but it was also such a waste of potential.
The only other thing we can do is think about how it could have gone differently, so here's some of my ideas :'D
NOT using the deleted time travel plot. I know that after being disappointed in a movie you welcome any alternative, but giant mechs were already a big deviation from the ninja theme; flinging in time travel as well would be too much for non-show watchers. Plus, I thought we were all complaining about how time travel in Ninjago always just messes things up :'P
Also not following the show closer. We have over 10 seasons of the show, the whole point of a movie is giving a fresh take; using a giant snake or the Overlord possessing Garmadon again would just be boring.
Delete the first act? One of the best parts of the secret high school heroes trope is seeing how they juggle both lives, if you're gonna drop it after half an hour there's not much point of it being there.
Could instead just have Garmadon attacking again, the last invasion attempt being ages ago. Maybe the ninja rediscover a rich history of elemental masters protecting Ninjago when Wu decides to get a new team together to fight the new threat?
Make it about learning master building instead so they build their mechs at the end, and then gain elements in a sequel?
Or don't mention anything about elements and have every ninja individually go through an obstacle to obtain an elemental weapon, then they all lose them but don't know they're not necessary, so it's actually a surprise that the power is inside them? Everyone gets a sort of true potential moment?
Ninja having to warm up to Garmadon's son, so we have a plot of Lloyd slowly gaining their respect and becoming leader?
Higher stakes at the end, make the Shark Army more threatening and have them turn on Garmadon using Meowthra, so there's still an intense climax of the ninja fighting the army before Lloyd reaches Meowthra and gets his emotional ending?
Get rid of the live action sequence, or make it fit the message of the story more?
Feel free to add any ideas/ thoughts!

A Very Special Doctor Who
The title of last night's episode "Can You Hear Me?" was a bit of a misnomer, or rather, a misdirect. In the tradition of Doctor Who names, I expected it to have more to do with the function of a creature. Something like "Don't blink!" or "You've got two shadows." Instead, it acts more as a reference to representation. Can you hear my calls for help? Can you see the signs of poor mental health? In many ways, tonight's episode was merely a vessel to deliver a message than the story itself. But was that to its detriment? Let’s get into it, shall we?
The episode opens on Aleppo, Syria in 1380. An interesting choice considering the history of the Crusaders. But they never once touch on the subject, they instead lean toward a simple monster invasion. It's not exactly certain why Aleppo was even necessary other than the fact that it looks really cool on-screen. It never really plays into the storyline other than being another location for the story to take place. I am guessing that writer Charlene James has some sort of personal history with the location. Perhaps she studied it and wanted to incorporate it into Doctor Who someday. Considering this is her first Doctor Who, that seems likely.
Tahira, a young Syrian girl is running from the authorities. Evidently, she's some sort of adventurous klepto like Winona Ryder. She leaves the safety of the centre of the city to steal things for the thrill of it. If you don't remember this, don't fret, it has little to no bearing on the greater story other than informing us that she's a bit bored and looking for adventure. Her friend Maryam scolds her and they speak of monsters, in which Maryam does not believe. Later that night, we're visited by these monsters who take everyone but Tahira. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it's still early on. My biggest bit of excitement came from the fact that the hand we see over Maryam's face was not the Slitheen. Having seen them in the trailer last week, that's who I was expecting them to be. You have to admit, their hands were very similar!
The Doctor drops all of her companions off so they can go touch base with their home lives. Yaz sees her sister, who seems a bit worried about her. Ryan reconnects with his mate Tibo. And Graham plays cards with the boys from the bus depot. I was happy to see the continuity of Gabriel returning as Graham's mate. That was a nice touch. Over the course of their revisiting their friends, we learn that things have been a bit off. People have been having nightmares. Tibo seems to have locked himself away in his flat and complains that at night he's visited by a bald man with tattoos on his head. Luckily, his mate Ryan has been travelling with the Doctor, which means that instead of being laughed at, he's taken seriously. On top of that, the trio of companions are also given visions of the tattooed man. Except for Graham who sees a woman with Storm from X-Men vibes trapped between two planets. That night, Tibo is once again visited by the dream man, whose fingers detach and enter his ear. I don't know why all five fingers detached as he only needed one. Ryan witnesses this just as the dream man and Tibo disappear.
The Doctor is also visited by this bald dream man which gives her something to do while dealing with the boredom of being away from her mates. The Doctor's own mental health has been a subject of discussion lately and it's apparent here as well. As she follows the intruder back to ancient Aleppo, she doesn't bat an eye at the fact that it appears to be ransacked. She's in her element. This is her bread and butter! The Doctor finds Tahira who alerts her to the presence of the monsters, as one is still present, hanging from the ceiling in a very creepy fashion. The make haste and give chase back to the safety of the TARDIS, but not before the Doctor finds a sample of the beast's fur. Strangely, the sonic picks up nothing. That's twice now in series twelve that the Doctor's sonic picks up no readings.
The Doctor picks up her companions where they've followed the source of Graham's vision back to a spaceship looking a lot like a Borg cube. The interior was like when you see a night club in the daytime. It's a bit weird. Also, there seems to be a network of fingers. Within this ship, they discover the bald man who calls himself Zellin. Apparently, he's some sort of Godlike immortal. For the classic Who fans, this was a treat as they name-dropped not one, but three different immortal species- the Guardians, the Eternals, and the Toymaker. I was especially excited over the Eternals, as "Enlightenment," is my favourite Fifth Doctor story.
The Doctor and her friends help release the woman from between the two planets, who turns out to be an immortal named Rakaya. It turns out to be a trick, as Zellin is unable to break her out of the prison himself. Through an unusually helpful bit of exposition, Rakaya recounts their story to the Doctor in a beautiful sequence of animation. I really loved the art direction of this scene as it was something you don't often see in Doctor Who. It was a nice way of illustrating what could easily have been something boring. Kudos to the production team for trying something new.
According to Rakaya, her and Zellin were both like gods, born into the universe and bored by their immortality. In order to entertain themselves, they pitted two planets against one another. But after a while, both species on each planet grew wise as to the nature of these gods and rebelled. They built a prison between their planets and trapped Rakaya there as punishment. I suppose they were done with their planets and decided they didn't need them anymore. I mean, after all, planets are a dime a dozen, right? The whole explanation is a bit hand-wavy, as is usual with god-like beings. The mythology trumps common sense. Zellin then set about using Rakaya's technology to free her while keeping her sane by feeding her nightmares he sourced from humans with his little flying fingers.
Having locked the Doctor and her companions up, they set about causing mayhem on their new favourite planet- Earth. Naturally, this being Doctor Who, they land in England. Meanwhile, the Doctor and her companions are kept as prisoners aboard Rakaya's ship, locked up and having dreams harvested from their minds. Ryan dreams of the Earth's destruction and sees the Dregs from Orphan 55 again. He sees Tibo as an old man. Just one more person he's failed. Graham dreams his cancer is back, complete with a vision of his lost love Grace. Yaz's vision is a bit more abstract as we see her sitting on the side of a stretch of country road while a policewoman looks on from a distance. And the Doctor's dream was a further glimpse into who I believe is probably the Timeless Child. Though we get about as much elucidation on that concept as we have in previous episodes. The only difference here is that we see the same shot for a few more seconds. Nothing new or surprising there. Clearly, that's series finale stuff.
What comes next is an absolute load of rubbish. The Doctor awakens from her dream, just because. After bumping her hip against her sonic, it flies up out of her pocket absolutely defying the laws of physics. For a second there, I wondered if she wasn't hanging upside down as that's the only explanation I could come up with for how the sonic was able to magically fly directly into her hands. While it doesn't ruin the episode, it was easily the worst moment. They don't even try and make it look believable. I'm not even sure they could have made it look believable. Had she dropped it, and then kicked it up into her hands, I could have maybe believed it. There's suspension of disbelief, and then there's just being stupid. In fairness, I'd be lying if I said this was anything new for Doctor Who. Who can forget Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor screaming at such a high pitch that it breaks a pane of glass to make an escape? That being said, it was still very bad.
Having escaped, the Doctor locks Rakaya and Zellin back into the planet prison. However, now they're joined by one of the beasties from Syria, which happen to be from Tahira's nightmares, hence why they never attacked her. The Doctor returns the ship's captive Syrians and Tibo. At this point, the episode still has a good ten or fifteen minutes left, but the threat has been completely neutralised. Or has it? Well, as it turns out, Zellin and Rakaya were not the biggest baddies this week. Instead, that illustrious title goes to none other than mental health issues! That's right, it's an awareness episode! This is why the entire story was so hand-wavy- it's just an excuse to talk about mental health!
I wouldn't say it was exactly shoehorned in, but it definitely was not subtle. Ryan talks Tibo into getting professional help for his issues. This one made the least sense to me because they gave literally zero indication that Tibo needed group therapy. Sure, he was locking his place like Fort Knox and becoming a recluse, but he was quite literally being visited by an all-powerful ancient evil. You get rid of the ancient evil and suddenly, his biggest problems are gone. Instead, it's inferred that Ryan just knows his friend well enough to say "Hey buddy, you need some help." Which is fine I guess, but they in no way illustrated this throughout the episode. Even Tibo's standoffishness toward Ryan could be explained by the fact that Ryan had not been returning his texts. And considering that by the end of the episode, he now knows Ryan has been travelling with the Doctor, even that issue is resolved.
Graham's own fears make far more sense as cancer was a very real part of his life. Of course, he's afraid of his cancer recurring. I did really love the conversation he has with the Doctor as she offers very little comfort. Watching the Doctor awkwardly meander away was funny, but also somewhat confusing. I found it a bit weird that the Doctor listened to Graham talk about cancer without mentioning that she probably has the cure to cancer in gum form or something. She doesn't need to say anything comforting when she can say- "Sure Graham, let's just go to Medicalus 9, the hospital planet! You'll never worry about cancer ever again!" If the Doctor can't cure cancer, then it's like Amy Pond said- "...what is the point of you?"
Yaz's story is easily the most welcome, as it offers up some much-needed backstory with her. We learn that Yaz had a hard time with bullies in school. After deciding to run away, he sister Sonya sends the police to find her. This is why Yaz's nightmare shows her on the side of a country road with a policewoman in the distance. Yaz's fear is that she will get to a point where she is unable to cope and needs to run away. Perhaps an even deeper fear is that her travels with the Doctor are one more form of running away. We learn why Yaz may have been inspired to become a policewoman herself, as the interaction between these two is a positive one. The policewoman makes a bet with her that in three years if things aren't better, she'll pay her £50, but if they are, Yaz owes her 50p. Remembering this bet, Yaz returns to give the woman her 50p, which you'll note was not a Brexit commemorative coin. Thank Zellin.
And that was it, really. There wasn't a lot of meat to this episode. The baddies were dealt with quickly, and the plot resolved before things were even over. Was I mad about this? Not hardly. In fact, I applaud the show for taking the time to talk about mental health. It was clearly the driving force behind the episode and I don't mind at all. Using the concept of bad dreams to represent bad thoughts made a lot of sense in context with the show. Even if the story was devised as a means to deliver a message, it was still a pretty entertaining story. I've always had a soft spot for the immortal baddies of Doctor Who, so adding two more in was a treat. I had even begun wondering if Zellin wasn't the black guardian pretty early on, so clearly they had done a good job paying homage.
The BBC even took the time to drop a hotline at the end of the story, which I thought was a nice touch. It's no lie that due to the current political and social climate of the world these days, mental health is at an all-time low. A friend of mine who is in school for counselling messaged me after the episode, ecstatic that they were addressing these issues, and I have to agree. Doctor Who spans a rather large audience, and it's good to see them trying to take that responsibility seriously. Where I've questioned the show's capacity to address bigger issues, it seems as though they've found a bit of a sweet spot with series twelve, give or take. Keep the messages broad and incorporate them into the story. If "Can You Hear Me?" caused even one person to reach out for help last night, then it's done its job well.

Roswell New Mexico: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space.
Let’s see how Liz is going to get Max back and how Rosa is going to stop her sister from doing it. Also how Isobel is going to handle being pregnant by her sociopath ex.
The group minus Maria is waiting outside an abandon lab for Alex who has all the equipment and body parts they need. The group sets up the lab so Liz can begin her research. Isobel begins working with a martial arts instructor.
Rosa is dealing with the fact she is basically a ghost. She can’t see anyone and has to sneak around. Rosa has a dream that she is getting a drink in Maria’s bar but Max asks her why she hasn’t stopped Liz yet. Its apparently because Max feels like he is burning up inside. I thought it was for some bigger reason but is seems Mac just wants to fully die. Rosa reminds Max that Liz won’t stop at anything.
While the team is dealing with all of this Maria is putting up posters for her missing mother. Michael has been getting visions of his mother when he has been working.
Isobel finds the alien poison that almost kills her and she wonders why Liz has it. Liz has it only for research purposes, which does make sense. Isobel takes some of the poison. I am guessing she is planning on using the poison the on the baby.
While Rosa is sneaking around she see Michael and Wyatt Long get into a fight because he used one of Maria’s missing posters to wipe gum off his shoe. Rosa looks at a video Wyatt posted where he is completely racist again Rosa’s family since his sister was one of the girls killed. Liz uses the phone she gave Rosa to track her when she was not at Max’s house. Rosa yells at Liz for not telling her the truth about her funeral and how the town hates her because they think she killed those girls. When the cops show up they catch Liz with a spray paint can in her hand right next to the graffiti Rosa did.
Liz tries to call Michael while she is in jail because she needs him to get to the lab but Michael was also arrested. Sheriff Valenti questions Liz about Noah’s murder and why she has been visiting Max’s house. Liz says its because she is hoping he will come back so she can make things right with him. Rosa texts Kyle who finds her at a church. Kyle explains what happened after death.
Isobel’s mother takes her to a Woman is Worrier retreat lead my Maria. Isobel is not very happy to be there but when it comes time for Isobel to throw her fear in the fire she has a hard time. Because her fear is the baby. Maria helps her let go and throw the paper in the fire. At home Isobel takes a drop of the alien poison hoping to free herself from the baby.
Kyle runs into the Chief of Surgery’s daughter at the hospital twice. Once when she is looking over his shoulder at the reports about Rosa. Kyle is concerned about the error that was found. The second time was when he was watching a surgery and she didn’t seem to really care. Honestly I won’t have cared about their interactions at all but she nail polish remover on her. While she might have been doing her nails, I was not paying super attention. Nail polish remover is an alien thing so I am always on alert when I see another person with it.
Liz confronts Rosa about her sneaking around but Rosa doesn’t care. All she cares about is the damage Max’s actions did to her family. Rosa wants to know why Liz wants to save Max when everyone hates her and their family because of his cover up. Rosa walks away from Liz. Rosa goes into the diner and her old room. She doesn't find the sketch book she was looking for but she does find a bottle of tequila.
Rosa falls asleep and Max talks to her again. Rosa doesn’t care he is pain because Liz won’t stop until she saves him. Since Max is connected to Rosa and can’t leaver her alone Rosa starts drinking from the bottle she found because she didn’t dream when she was high. Max is shocked with Rosa disappears almost like she was in his dream.
Michael visits Alex because he wants his help with finding out more about his mom. Michael mom’s name was Nora and she was the last alien admitted. It means there might be people out there who knew her. When Alex tries to get close to Michael, Michael tells him no and that he want to be with Maria. Alex says is he had a chance to be with Maria he would choose her too. I am sure that is just Alex’s low self esteem showing up. I want to believe it is Alex saying he understands Michael choosing her and that would be accepting of a polyam relationship.
Michael puts his trailer in the parking lot of the bar Maria works at because she has been sleeping there wait for her mom. Michael apologizes and tells Maria he wants her. Maris decides they can try it out on a casual non-exclusive basis but no making out with Lindsey’s and they share a kiss. I would like note Maria did not say no Alex.
While all of this has been going on we see Flint visit his father wondering why he did’t want everyone to know the truth about the alien facility. Papa Manes said it would have caused more issues and been called fake news. Basically its better to keep up with anything they are doing in secret. Flint finds Alex outside their fathers hospital room door a few days later. While they are outside it looks like their father might be having a heart attack or stroke or something similar.
Looks like Rosa is going back to her old habits in order to keep Max’s voice out of her head. Also it was never explained what Liz said to explain her not leaving. I have a feeling her father was not going to be accepting of Liz giving up a grant. I am pretty sure Isobel taking that poison is going to have really bad results. I am super let down about the reason why Max wants Rosa to stop Liz. I don’t like pain and I would want the pain to end as well. At the same time I was hoping for some huge alien reason. To stop a war or an invasion Max can’t come back to life.
Also it was nice to find out about the time Liz and Rosa’s mother drove drunk and how Rosa yelled at her after she hit a bike. It is because of that reason Liz never believed her sister drove drunk.
Roswell is allowed to have trailers and next week looks like its going to crazy. Maria is going to see Rosa who I am guessing is looking for more alcohol to drink and Isobel is going to keep taking more poison.

Keanu Reeves May Be Pure, But He's Not Oblivious
America’s most memeable actor is back in John Wick: Chapter 3, a movie that's in on the joke of our obsession with Keanu. He might be too.
Alison Willmore
BuzzFeed News Reporter
Posted on May 17, 2019, at 10:40 a.m. ET
For a guy without any official web presence or expressed interest in things online, Keanu Reeves goes viral a lot. He's spawned memes when he's looked sad and other memes when he's looked happy. There's a Twitter account, 198,000 followers strong, devoted to "Keanu doing things" like wearing a fedora or hanging out on set with Sandra Bullock. Creepshot footage of the actor giving up his seat on the subway or rattling around the Bakersfield airport after an emergency landing has racked up thousands of delighted views. Reeves may have risen to fame as a Gen X movie star ("the most soulful while being the most stoner-bro," as the New York Times recently put it), but it was millennials who carved out a permanent place for Keanu in the internet boyfriend hall of fame, as an embodiment of inexpressible melancholy and a figure too pure for this world.
The fact that the actual Reeves — like any living, breathing human — is likely a lot more complicated than that has never gotten in the way of how he's been enshrined in the popular imagination, in part because Reeves has never seen fit to fight it. Reeves works hard onscreen, while barely seeming to notice the eyes (and cellphone cameras) that remain trained on him when he's off it. Where other stars attempt to actively sculpt and control their public image, Reeves submits to the sometimes intrusive attention with bemused acceptance, aware of but apparently unbothered by the fact that there's an outsize version of himself living in people's heads. When questioned about it, he tends to be kind: "Yeah, I guess that’s like an invasion of privacy. They didn’t ask me," he told Uproxx of the bus video, the existence of which seemed to be news to him. Then he added, "They were nice people. We were in it together. We had a nice car ride."
When Reeves went viral again last week, it was for something he definitely knew was being recorded. He was on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, doing promo for John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, the preposterously enjoyable third film of the action franchise that's come to define this period in his career. Reeves, sporting some “I'm-between-roles” facial hair, talked up the stunts and how he was set to reprise his role as world-saving slacker Theodore "Ted" Logan in a third Bill & Ted movie, nearly three decades after the last one.
All of which led Colbert to coyly ask Reeves what he thought happened when we die — a ludicrously weighty question for the average talk-show exchange, but a perfect one for the bodhisattva of showbiz. And Reeves did not disappoint, answering simply that "I know that the ones who love us will miss us." It was both a perfectly shareable aphorism and a poignant reminder of his own experiences with losing loved ones, which are real and terrible and which were also outlined in a Facebook video that blew up to the point that the fact-checking site Snopes felt compelled to put together an entry on it, judging it to be "Mostly True."
Reeves is now 54 years old. The inhuman splendor of his youthful beauty (seriously, have you seen My Own Private Idaho lately?) has gradually softened into a more manageable gorgeousness that shows the touch of time while remaining a little unreal. The fact that Reeves isn't a kid anymore is, in fact, the whole point of the John Wick trilogy, which puts the actor in the eponymous role as a retired killer yanked back into violence after an arrogant Russian mob scion kills the puppy gifted to him by his late wife.
The John Wick franchise is the creation of Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, stunt coordinators turned filmmakers whose elegant action sequences make clear how often it's really Reeves there doing the work, having a swordfight on a motorcycle or slowly sinking a blade into a struggling foe's eyeball. His physicality is front and center, and it's both impossible (John should be dead a thousand times over) and extremely human (John bleeds, staggers, reels with grief). Like Reeves himself, John is at once larger than life and extremely to scale.
Reeves is famous for action. His biggest films are the Wachowskis' Matrix trilogy, those landmarks of bullet-time choreography and heady stoner philosophy for which his flat affect was perfectly suited, as well as Speed and Point Break. But he's always harbored a romantic streak too, even if it hasn't always been showcased well by leading roles (like his in 2006's The Lake House) that leave him looking lost. He's better as the losing corner of the love triangle in Nancy Meyers’ 2003 rom-com Something's Gotta Give, despite the grievous injustice of Diane Keaton throwing him over for Jack Nicholson. The John Wick films work so well not just because of their fight sequences and increasingly arcane assassin mythology, but because of the degree to which they're romance-adjacent. They're heartfelt films about grief, with John as a man lamenting the death of his love and losing pieces of the life they built together in each subsequent installment.
The further the John Wick series has gone on, the more it's curled around Reeves' own persona. The first was a comeback vehicle for Reeves that also happened to be about a hitman's comeback from normal living, and the second was a riff on contractual work obligations. By the third, John is as beset by admirers as Reeves was at that Bakersfield bus stop, only in the film they're affectionately trying to murder him. When he faces down two henchmen (played by Cecep Arif Rahman and Yayan Ruhian of the Raid series), they thank him for the honor of fighting him, and maintain a running commentary on his performance in Indonesian during the sequence. "He's getting slow," muses one as John peels himself off the floor, while the other points out that he is recently out of retirement.
The main antagonist in the new movie, at least physically, is a striver and self-declared fan named Zero (Mark Dacascos), who’s a devotee bumped up to the assassin big leagues. "I've been looking forward to meeting you for a long time!" he declares. "And so far you haven't disappointed!" Zero is a surprisingly funny creation who owes something to Sonny Chiba in Kill Bill: Vol. 1, in how he's introduced, and something to Anne Baxter in All About Eve, in how he's ready to destroy his idol and take his place.
But Zero and his team also feel like a meditation on modern fandom at its most intense, where people need the person they admire to live up to the image they've formed of them, with an implied threat as to what might happen if the object of their obsession doesn't manage this feat. Most of the characters in the John Wick movies are bewildered by John's efforts to get out of the game and live like a normie, but they treat him as a fellow professional. The baddies in John Wick 3, on the other hand, are fans who feel a sense of ownership over John because they've tracked his career so closely.
Reeves may have the most even-keeled relationship with celebrity of any A-lister working today, but in the beleaguered looks he shoots at his foes in this new movie, there's a hint of wry self-awareness. It doesn't feel accurate to describe Reeves as a reluctant movie star, not when he devotes so much of himself to what he does, and when he gamely participates in every aspect of the process. But in playing this reluctant killer, the actor does offer a glimpse of himself as someone who's aware that there’s a finer line between being loved by the public and being devoured by it than anyone would like to think about.
There’s a thrill watching Reeves in this role that’s related to how delightful it feels to see him turn up as what looks like himself in the trailer for Netflix's upcoming Always Be My Maybe — the rom-com loser and internet boyfriend all in one, mashing his face into Ali Wong's while muttering, "I miss your taste." We may like to treat Reeves as a kind of holy innocent, but just because he avoids artifice doesn't mean he doesn't know what's going on. ●
