The last thing I just reblogged got me remembering that on two different occasions I saw a Black female character being called a rapist for *checks notes* in one instance having consensual sex with a white guy, and the other for being in a threesome with a Bi white guy and a Gay guy also consensually. You gotta love it here.

As a child, Elena Chase loved the sea.
Having been born in a desert town, she could still recall the moment she saw the ocean for the first time after her family moved to the coast of Maine. The endless expanse of various shades of blue that stretched all the way to the horizon and ignited her childish imagination with whispered stories of sunken treasures and legendary sea monsters. Every day, she went down to the beach and spent the summer snorkeling, surfing and sailing with her parents.
That was, until her parents died in a shipwreck and Elena's love for the sea faded into the black abyss of grievance...

Roswell (1999) is honestly such an underappreciated show these days
This shit had:
Couples that actually had chemistry
A mysterious male protagonist who is ACTUALLY SWEET AS FUCK AND NOT A FUCKING CREEP. Honestly, Max Evans proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that a male romantic lead can be attractive and compelling without being toxic and ‘damaged’
Teens doing stupid, realistic teen shit in an appalling attempt to keep aliens a secret
Cops as the antagonist the ENTIRE way through (minus the literally one good cop who has a redemption arc and basically only stays in the job so he can cover up their shit and is universally mocked and looked down on by other cops)
Reincarnation/soulmate trope where those involved turn around and say “no thanks. I’m in love with this person right here and destiny can fuck itself”
HEALTHY COMMUNICATION!!! Like, not at all times, but waaaaaaay more than we tend to get in media even now, especially teen media. These kids actually talk to each other when they have an issue the majority of the time and soooooo many misunderstandings are cut off at the knees by it. And they RESPECT EACH OTHERS BOUNDARIES!
Entirely non-romantic friendships between guys and girls. Like, not even the hint of a crush
A killer title sequence that i’ve literally watched on its own before
My boy Michael, who is the most pitiful, assholish, adorable example of a Poor Little Meow Meow ever to avoid reaching tumblr sexy man status. This man stood outside the window of the girl he had a thing for in the pouring rain and gave her puppy dog eyes until she let him in, dried him off and spooned him all night while he cried himself to sleep
Disclaimer: it was made in 1999 for a teen audience and so is just as white and straight as most other iconic tv shows of the era

Okay I have to talk about it more explicitly, because the extent to which this man has just burned his bridges is breathtaking to me.
Like. We've always known he was a hothead who liked to run off at the mouth when pissed on social media, but there is a massive gaping chasm of difference between that and sitting down with a Variety reporter to slam your former network publicly and basically call them trash. Even if you're correct, that's the kind of thing you just don't do if you ever want anyone else to hire you.
And it truly can't have been a shock, right? Because Nexstar's strategy has been obvious and not at all a secret from the beginning. The first thing they did when they bought the CW was axe most of the scripted shows. They kept the handful that were high performing, fit their target demo best, and/or were close to the syndication point. But they cancelled Nancy Drew after four seasons. They cancelled Roswell, NM after four seasons. Slowly but surely, they cancelled everything, sometimes giving them enough of a heads up to wrap things up satisfyingly...and sometimes not.
So they were always, obviously, going to cancel Walker after four seasons. Even though it was one of their top performing shows. Because as much as I dislike the man, he's right about one thing: they were very transparent from the beginning about wanting cheap, easy-to-make, mindless content. They don't want to pay a huge roster of writers and actors and set crew and stunt coordinators and SFX folks and all the people required to make a scripted show worth watching week to week.
What fascinates me is that he talks like he's surprised about this. Like he somehow really thought his pet project would be exempt from this treatment. I don't even know what to do with that. I don't want to study him, but if someone else does, I'll read your thesis!
What else is fascinating to me is the way that in hindsight, it feels like this was a much longer time coming than it initially seemed. We knew big changes were going to come with Nexstar's purchase of the network, but the CW's decline started, IMO, long before that, when it began cancelling some of its longest-running mainstays like The Vampire Diaries, and relying too heavily on reboots and spin-offs. It's just inconceivable to me that someone who was entrenched in this machine since his early 20s wasn't aware this was coming. I almost feel bad for the guy.

Hi, roswell conspiracy person again. You don't have to answer this one if you don't want, obviously, but in this era of reboots and such, would you want it to come back? And if it did what would you want to keep and what would you want to improve of the show?
well it's interesting that you ask that, 'cause a Roswell Conspiracies reboot was announced in 2019
https://www.animationmagazine.net/2019/11/41-ent-announces-ya-sci-fi-original-roswell-conspiracies
it's been so long without anymore news that I assume it's cancelled or on hiatus or whatever, but it looked like it wasn't really related to the first series. Takes place in the same universe, but doesn't use the same characters (edit: i found another article that says it was supposed to come out in 2021 lol that sure didn't happen)
a proper reboot I think could do pretty well, turn up the violence and the action and you've got a fun scifi/action animated series. improvements....well, some of the writing is very 90s in a good way but some of it is very 90s in a bad way, it'd need some general character updates (especially for the native american guy lol)
i like the stories in Roswell Conspiracies but if it was made into an adult animated series then itd probably have 8-10 episode seasons so they'd cut a lot of the fun monsters, hopefully not the vampires 'cause those bitches are crazy and i love them

i know I should be happy to see more poc and black character. the expanse is amazing, interview with the vampire is really good despite some issues. but I can't help thinking those show has been writing by white people and those writers are good but I'm very frustrated to see very few adaptation of books writing by black or poc author. And when there is an adaptation, like Liu Cixin's books, I'm disappointed because everything still centered around whiteness. I want to see so badly an adaptation of Lilith's Brood trilogy. I became more bitter with show like interview with the vampire even if I should be happy for the actors having those opportunities. I still feel like people, white people deny us ouf right to tell our own story. It's like when they were talking about a Buffy reboot, and they wanted a black Buffy. I don't care of a black Buffy. Buffy had been wrote as a white woman with her own struggled. I don't want a black Buffy. But I would like a new black slayer with her own identity writing by black writers. Or I want Kendra in an AU... Buffy was white, get over it people. I had had the same issues with Charmed and Roswell. And in Roswell, when they made Maria a black women, they take away her screentime, her evolution... White!Maria was important in the Roswell og. So I'm very frustrated but I should be happy because we have more representation onscreen.
So I hesitated answering this for 2 months now because I've only had the spoons to queue things and post the palestinian posts. This is going to be long in response so bear with me.
I have some questions about how you frame things. Like you said
It's like when they were talking about a Buffy reboot, and they wanted a black Buffy. I don't care of a black Buffy. Buffy had been wrote as a white woman with her own struggled. I don't want a black Buffy. But I would like a new black slayer with her own identity writing by black writers. Or I want Kendra in an AU… Buffy was white, get over it people.
this is very suspect to me. Like what would be wrong with a Black Buffy? I get a Kendra AU would be amazing but like there's actually more justification for a Black slayer than there is a white one. Like even in the show the first slayer was a Black girl made by priests to fight demons and vampires by infusing her with magic. If they made Buffy black it could go a long way towards erasing the grossness of showing black origins to the slayers but only a white witch (willow) being greater than the black original priests because shes able to activate all the Potentials at once.
Here's another thing you said that kinda bothers me:
And when there is an adaptation, like Liu Cixin's books, I'm disappointed because everything still centered around whiteness.
Like granted I haven't finished the first book but there very much are 2 adaptations to the 3 body problem. They can't both be white centric. Also I'm a little worried you're counting the east asians and eiza gonzalez as white. Because when I watched the netflix version I was in awe of how diverse the cast was. And I know that the wallfacer character is only going to grow in significance in the next seasons of the show.
However you did say this which I totally agree with:
i know I should be happy to see more poc and black character. the expanse is amazing, interview with the vampire is really good despite some issues. but I can't help thinking those show has been writing by white people and those writers are good but I'm very frustrated to see very few adaptation of books writing by black or poc author.
