“i’ve read all the hunger games books at least four times and this one did not disappoint. but i do hope whoever ends up being cast as young snow is someone hot. i’m sorry it’s the rules! and they will be my boyfriend, i’m calling dibs.”

FNAF Movie Theory...

I'm pretty sure there's still one major plot twist in the universe of the movie that's been set up for a sequel but hasn't actually happened yet. Heavy spoilers under the cut:

After watching the movie in theaters and then revisiting a few scenes on Peacock, I'm still kind of convinced that Mike Schmidt is Michael Afton.

Here's my reasoning. A lot of the characters spend time acting like they know something the audience/other characters don't, and those things are...mostly resolved. But some of them just...kind of aren't.

The main thing that sticks out to me is William's whole storyline. Starting with the scene where he offers Mike the job, his behavior is almost explained by the movie's logic. He sees Mike's name, seems...kind of deeply upset, looks at him very closely, stands to get coffee, and has a moment of visible internal conflict. Then he instantly offers him the Freddy's job. The way the movie frames this, it seems to be saying that he recognized the name of one of his victims, realized this was the kid's brother, and decided to kill him right then and there. Which is passable as an explanation, but it has a lot of holes, if you look deeper.

Why would William so instantly recognize a fairly common last name as the brother of some kid he killed that wasn't even anywhere near Freddy's? Why did he kidnap/kill Garrett in the first place, in some random forest in Nebraska? Why did he see the name on the file, then immediately stop and examine Mike's face so closely, when Mike's memories/dreams pretty clearly show that they never saw each others' faces when Garrett was taken? Why did he send Vanessa to "keep Mike in the dark" if he purposely gave him the job to get him killed? Why not have the animatronics kill him right away? He didn't know that Mike was searching for the man who took his brother, and while he could have maybe guessed he was still actively haunted by what happened based on Mike beating up a guy that he thought was kidnapping someone, it still feels like a weird choice to go and hire him, then just have him do the job with no issue for a few days.

As for Vanessa, we see that she's been cleaning up William's messes for years. Why is Mike the one she changes her mind and stands up to her father for? There's no implied romance between the two and no particularly meaningful connection beyond them both having family issues. I guess she cares about Abby because she's a kid, but kids getting hurt clearly never stopped her from helping her father before.

And, on a more meta level, this is Scott and his storytelling style we're talking about. The man puts plot twists inside of plot twists and everything always ties back into the Aftons, somehow.

So, here's my theory: I think that Mike is William's kid, but Mike's mom left Afton when he was young and remarried the man that Mike thinks is his father.

It seems convoluted and maybe cliche, but if it's true, then suddenly there's an answer to all of those questions. "Michael Schmidt" isn't exactly an eye-catching name, unless you had a kid named Michael and your ex-wife married a guy with the last name Schmidt. Garrett's kidnapping, then, becomes an act of intentional, petty revenge rather than an extremely random coincidence. Giving Mike the job and sending in Vanessa suddenly becomes about piecing together how much he knows and figuring out if he's worth trying to reconnect with or is just a threat that needs to be killed. (It feels worth noting that William is as far as I can remember the only person to call him Michael in the whole film. He also very pointedly never says "Schmidt" until he's decided to kill Mike and suddenly announces his full name out loud. If he went by Michael as a little kid, that is what William would default to calling him, but if he took the new husband's last name, that would be like like salt in the wound that he wouldn't want to voice. By finally saying it out loud, it feels like he's making the decision to fully separate himself from Mike.)

As for Vanessa, if Mike is her brother, it makes sense that he would be the person she'd turn against William to save. It would be weird for her not to tell him, but she could also be trying to protect him, in some way. There's never any mention of her mother, and it seems like it's just been her and William for a long time. Also, ending the movie with her in a coma feels like a strange narrative choice, but it makes sense if she knows information that's purposely being kept hidden for the sequel.

Of course, it could just be that the movie has kind of messy writing and I'm trying to fix it because I want there to be a deeper reason for it. Maybe there is no Michael Afton in the movies, or maybe he's off chilling and doing his own thing somewhere and we'll see him in the sequel. Only time will tell.

Notable Details from the original "Into The Pit" story (PART 1)

Upon the mill's closure, Oswald's dad works part-time at the deli counter in a store called the Snack Space (a 7-11 equivalent, basically), which requires a red vest as their uniform. Oswald is embarrassed by the fact his dad is wearing the vest as he drops him off at school. Just a neat bit of world-building.

Oswald has a best friend named Ben who moved into the next town over.

Oswald's bullies, including Dylan Cooper, call him "Oswald the Ocelot" after a cartoon character they saw as pre-schoolers, a big pink ocelot named Oswald. Again, more world-building.

Oswald is described as having freckles and a cowlick in the original story.

Oswald has no modern electronics in his home, save for one laptop he shares with his family. His phone is an outdated model he's embarrassed by.

Oswald's teacher, Mrs. Meecham, puts on a movie for her class on the last day of school, which is described as "about a farm with talking animals", "too babyish for a roomful of fifth graders". I'm guessing they might have been watching the animated adaptation of Charlotte's Web... or it could be wishful thinking on my part, since I love that movie.

Oswald has been drawing mechanical animals ("bears, bunnies, and birds") for reasons even he doesn't know, other than lack of anything better to do when he's bored.

Oswald's mom works at the hospital from 12PM to 12AM... yikes.

Oswald's dad can't cook to save his life. If it can't be boiled in water or heated in a microwave, he has to buy his meals... how relatable.

Blue-box macaroni and cheese exists in FNAF, meaning Kraft and its products likely exist, too. Just thought that was funny for some reason.

Oswald's dad squirts ketchup into his mac and cheese. I just think knowing he's the kind of dad who does that is really funny... kinda reminds me of my stepdad's love of ketchup, to be honest.

Other pizzerias that once existed in Oswald's town were Gino's Pizza and Marco's Pizza, both of which closed not long after the mill closed. Both Gino's and Marco's are described as good restaurants, while the food at Jeff's Pizza is described as "decent".

Oswald is into B-grade Japanese horror films, including kaiju movies like Zendrelix vs. Mechazendrelix. Zendrelix is apparently FNAF's answer to Godzilla, making Mechazendrelix an equivalent to Mechagodzilla. They're described like this: "... Zendrelix just looked like a giant dragon thing, but Mechazendrelix reminded him [Oswald] of the mechanical animals he drew when he stripped them of their fur." Zendrelix is also described as being portrayed by "a guy in a rubber suit", solidifying the connection between him and Godzilla.

Oswald and his dad both really love bacon. I just thought that was cute.

When Oswald visits the library, a place he finds "actually kinda fun", he shows interest in a science fiction book from a series, as well as a manga he liked. Based, IMHO.

The library Oswald visits frequently allows homeless people to use their computers and other resources. WE NEED LIBRARIES AND THIS IS EXACTLY ONE REASON WHY!

Oswald's mom, being a nurse, is a bit of a germaphobe and won't let Oswald play in places she considers dirty. A ball pit would be considered one such place.

The pizza Jeff serves comes in huge slices too big for the paper plates they're served on, and very greasy. As someone who was born in NYC and used to eat greasy New York pizza... I think I would have liked eating at Jeff's. Maybe.

Oswald reads a library book while visiting Jeff's Pizza, about "a world where kids with secret powers went to a special school to learn how to fight evil". I wonder how many books that describes...

Oswald plays an online fantasy game at the library that's free to play, but Oswald gets to a point where he can't progress without money. I wonder what game it could have been...

Oswald's dad and mom used to date in high school, often frequenting a roller rink, and are great skaters as a result. Oswald himself can't skate and needs his parents to hold him up.

For Grimace, Sylvester and the rest of the gang.. well that was just my Violet team. I gave them personalities that I thought would suit them and just.. went from there I guess? <:D

For Conkeldurr, Zuora, Emboar and the 4 piglets.. well, it started with just thinking about Conkeldurr and how much I like that Pokémon. I pictured him as a Gentle giant and imagined how fun it would be to draw him with some other tiny Pokémon that he adopted. I went through the Unovan pokédex and picked a Zuora because she was small and fluffy <XD

After making a post about them I wanted to give Conkeldurr a friend. Well I like the Emboar line so hey why not do that? She can be a mama Emboar to switch it up and she can have 4 kids. Why not? Since I didn't draw her in that first post, I made the story they they went their separate ways for a time but now they're back together.

I honestly don't have solid concrete advice I can offer- I just think "hey this would be neat" and slap it on there. Or I think "hey this scenario would be fun to draw" and so I structure the events and story to make the characters run into this scenario in a reasonable way. That's really all I do.. <:D

Any who, I'm glad to hear your views on Conkeldurr! :D Some people can be kind'a harsh :x As for the Tepigs, I can see them sticking around even after evolving into Pignites. They love their mama and would have no desire to leave her.. 🥺

As for what threatens them.. when they were apart, I kind'a image any meat eating Pokémon that thinks they could take them in a fight would be a threat. Or perhaps territorial Pokémon or protective parents that would see a big Pokémon coming near and just attack on instinct.

Now that the two of them are together, they have a lot less trouble with random Pokémon. They're a much bigger challenge to take on as a team. Plus I can see Zuora walking with them disguised as a second Emboar or Conkeldurr. Creating a group that looks like three macho parents that will fiercely protect their piglets.

As for the Minecraft movie, here's the thing about the Piglins. In the actual game they turn into Zombie Piglins the moment they leave the Nether. Why are they still normal Piglins despite running through a village??

And a Netflix show... uhg.. I'm just not interested. I feel like Minecraft looses all its charm when you convert it into a show or movie. And especially if you mess up Steve as badly as they did. Jack Black.. that's the worst casting I can think of.🤦

I think I put that on almost out of habit <XD when I picture old abandoned houses I imagine notes stuck to the door warning of debts and bills that need to be paid lest the owners get evicted. So I drew that because it felt fitting!

I've seen the FNAF movie and I've seen multiple Youtubers play all the FNAF games. Though I haven't played through any of them myself. :00

As for what I thought of them.. I have a place in my heart for all the games. From the lore jumbling ruin DLC, to the classic first game, I'm a total sucker and I love them all.💞💞

The movie wasn't as bad as I feared it would be. I adored the inclusion of MatPat and the intended inclusion of Markiplier. There were some aspects I didn't like and a lot of missed opportunities in my opinion. And of course the lore is all outa whack..

None the less, I think the movie is charming. And my love for FNAF has only strengthened upon the movies release :))

I have some thoughts about Movie!Vanessa's behavior on night 4.

Yknow. The night where they build the big pillow fort, foreshadow the springlock suit Abby nearly gets shoved into later. The night where Abby gets electrocuted, and where Vanessa threatens to shoot Mike.

(If anything is wrong here, it's because while I just got back from watching the movie in cinemas again, I can't go scene by scene because I don't have Peacock. And I'm not getting it just for the fnaf movie. Not even sure if Peacock is in Australia?)

I've seen people complain that Vanessa's behavior on this night is too... inconsistent. She goes from suggesting using tables for a giant pillow fort, to telling off Mike for bringing his sister, to consoling Abby after the shock, to threatening to shoot Mike.

But I don't think this is inconsistent. Because there's a common thread in all the scenes where Vanessa's keeping calm.

Abby.

Whenever Abby is there, she plays along with her suggestions, or tries to comfort her when things go wrong.

It's only when Abbys not around or cant notice whats going on, when it's only her and Mike, that Vanessa drops the act and says something real- Don't touch that, it's a springlock suit. You're the one who brought her here. Don't bring her back.

And I think the reason why is just very simple- she doesn't want to scare Abby, because Abby's just a little kid who doesn't have much control over whether they spend the night at Freddys.

If she's scared of a place that she has to stay in (say, because her brother brought her to try and talk to ghost children. And he's outright admitted this to you), and can't leave because. She's like eight and her brother's on the clock- that would be a really fucking cruel thing to do. Abby doesn't have much control over whether she's at Freddys or not. She can cry, or scream. But if Mike doesn't want to go home, she can't either. Not easily.

(At least, as far as either Mike or Vanessa would know at the time. Apparently Abby knows how to catch a taxi with minimal help.)

If you isolate the "playing along" she does with Abby, from how she talks to Mike, the inconsistency goes away.

Just focusing on Mike and Vanessa's dialogue- you can see the tension ramping up slowly. Things starts out okay until the springlock suit. Tension rises. She gets defensive when Mike tries to blame her for not telling him about these dangerous things earlier. (And she has a point- she's not the one who took Abby here.) Tension rises again. Then Abby gets shocked. Vanessa consoles her, but glares at Mike over Abbys shoulder. Next scene is the "If you dare bring her back here, I'll shoot you." Scene. The tension had been going up in a steady diagonal all night, if you understand that Vanessa's putting on an act around Abby.

I don't know what else to say so I guess I'm ending it here. Tldr- Vanessa seems "inconsistent" because she's trying to stay calm around a child. That's why she only really goes off on Mike when their alone together on night 4.

Fnaf movie notes, spoilers ahead:

First off, fuck Scott Cawthon, let's just say I didn't watch the movie in theaters or on a streaming service.

What I liked:

Matthew Lillard actually looks like William Afton

The "Talking in Your Sleep" cameo was the best one of the movie, next to "I have a theory"

Cory was funny, as expected

I liked how they made the animatronics just kids, they want a friend.

The way the animatronics moved was great, I just wish we could have gotten a foxy running scene.

The cinematography and set design inside the pizzeria was great, and everywhere outside felt very real.

The animatronics were cute when I was supposed to like them and foreboding when I was supposed to be scared of them. I don't know if they physically changed the suits but it works.

Mike's actor was actually pretty good at looking distressed or upset.

I just want to hug the animatronics they are so cute 🥺🥺

The animatronics weren't sadistic, when they killed someone it was because they were trying to get them out or away. Just like if an actual little kid had that power, they wouldn't be cruel or even want to kill anyone, they just don't understand their own power

There actually were five nights!

Springtrap wiping the knife is a reference to Scream, where Matthew Lillard played Ghostface, who is known for wiping their knife after using it.

What I didn't like:

You're telling me they named their main character Mike and they didn't have Afton go "MIKE! MICHAEL!!! MICHAEL DON'T LEAVE ME HERE!!!!! *MICHAEL!*

Vanessa was a nothing burger, even when her motivation was revealed it wasn't that good. I think it would have been better if they set up that she was working with Afton

Golden Freddy was everywhere but they didn't namedrop the kid once, and it was so inconsistent. He's here, he's not here. I'm assuming it's a combination of Cassidy and the Crying Child.

Afton's connection to the story is flimsy. Why was he pretending to be Raglan? I'm assuming it's so he could get night guards to toy with, that's why the animatronics killed the intruders but not Mike.

It's kind of weird thinking about the logic of how Afton killed Mike's brother, and gave his daughter the plane. Just seems a little bit of a stretch.

Even though I hate excessive gore, I thought there wasn't half as much violence as there should have been. I guess the PG-13 rating constricted a lot.

It takes a broom to activate what I'm assuming is a Circus Baby reference springlock, but Afton can jump around in Spring Bonnie.

The only Purple Guy reference we got was a purple tie. They should have made the security vest purple.

Questions

How is the cupcake sentient?

How does Afton control the kids?

Who cleaned up the blood of the four intruders? I'm guessing Afton but I wish they'd made it more clear

Why didn't Afton send out the animatronics on the first night? Even if he wanted to kill Mike, he seems like the type to psychologically torture people beforehand.

Why was there an "it's me" note? I get the reference, but why? Is Mike's brother here?

What's the Freddy mask with the saws inside? I know Afton uses it to kill people but why does it exist?

Why does Balloon Boy exist? Do the toy animatronics exist in this universe??

Why doesn't foxy have a tail?????

If we get a sequel I hope we only get one or two. I don't want a whole cinematic universe. Finding ways to watch 12 movies 'other ways' will get complicated.

Also when the casting was revealed, I didn't know who Matthew Lillard was and someone told me he played live action Shaggy, so I didn't know he played fuckin STU FROM SCREAM until I watched the movie, so another cameo technically, just only for me

one thing I love is when someone is reviewing a film, a game... anything... and they say explicitly, "Look, this wasn't made for me, this was made for the fans of (game name/movie/etc), and on that standpoint, it fucking rules."

Like, I'm watching the Dead Meat Kill Count of Five Nights at Freddy's. He explicitly notes that he didn't find the movie that compelling or even good, but then he also points out that it doesn't fucking matter, because the movie was made for the fans of FNaF and not for him.

I wish more critics would be upfront about that kind of thing.

The film was made as a gift to people who took some dude's weird lil indie horror game and made it this enormous lore-heavy powerhouse that the internet embraced. And it made more than 300 million dollars in theaters, so like, fuck reviews and critics.

I'M not even a FNaF fan, although that's due to just not ever having played the games or anything. But even I could see that the movie was absolutely buried in adoration of the original story and property and full of tiny details fans would be thrilled by.

There is something special about films or shows based on video games where you can tell the people involved genuinely love or at least respect the fans' love of the property. Like Henry Cavill playing Geralt of Rivia with such a depth of understanding of the character that honestly, they should never have tried to play contract chicken with him and lost that talent.

(On the other hand, I am so fucking jazzed to see what he does with Warhammer 40K)

So, yeah. The FNaF movie is a gift, and it wasn't a gift for movie critics.

Also, I love literally any horror property where Matt Lillard shows up to be a goddamn brilliant nebula in the galaxy of fucked up bad people. Loved him since he played Stu in Scream. Love him now. Just. Love.

Remember how the Haikyuu characters were horribly mischaracterized in 2020 and how every character was watered down to like 1 or 2 traits (tangerine/baby 🥺🥺 hinata, sugamama and dadchi, yamagucci, milkboi, etc 💀💀💀💀)??? so this might be kind of a hot take, but I think that Hinata lovesssss horror movies like I feel like in all the art or skits (especially when it's ship!!) I see of hinata watching a horror movie he ends up needing one of the bigger and stronger characters (namely Kageyama) to cover his eyes or for him to cling onto and they just kind of make him like "omg I'm so scared 🥺🥺🥺🥺 save me kageyama!!" But honestly, I think he would really enjoy horror. I personally love watching horror even though it scares me, and he would do the same. He likes the adrenaline rush and the suspense. He likes being kept on his toes, yk? He's trying to guess who the killer is or who the next villain is. He's gonna be terrified going in, and yeah, he'll probably scream at the jump scares, but he's smiling the entire time and talking about how cool or lame the effects are. Either that or he's staring at the screen very very intently and eating his fist fulls of popcorn and will not BLINK so he doesn't miss a single second. Like other people are grabbing onto HIM!! Actually, yk who can't watch horror movies at all? BOKUTO AND ATSUMU. Atsumu is definitely better but like he's the one who's hanging onto to hinata for dear life and Bokuto is fs screaming like a little girl and then denying it (he's telling people who were not there (probs Akaashi or Kuroo) he wasn't scared at all and it was actually sooo boring but they're like 🤨🤨🤨 lmaooo). Kenma has no reaction cause he played soo much FNAF that he's now detached from, like getting scared. Nishinoya is right along with Hinata, but Tanaka is a mix of them and Bokuto, like he lovessss horror, but screams like a little girl and then denies it. Kageyama, I'm not sure about. I feel like he'd freak out at the sight of blood and can only watch like paranormal horror, but would then get super confused as to what was happening bc paranormal horror tends to get confusing. what’s your favorite dan and phil games video? any particular reason?

ahh this is such a hard question 😭 the gaming channel is my ultimate comfort content I have a legitimate problem where I don’t watch any of the tv shows or movies I want to watch I just rewatch dnpgames videos I’ve already seen 20 times and I could list like 50 different videos all with their own reasons BUT I will force myself to choose for the question (I’m going to do one from pre hiatus content though and one from after bc those are two entirely different eras/lifetimes to me I think it’s only fair)

-dan lost his voice so we’re playing charades: just an s tier video if we’re being fr, first of all dan losing his voice is just what makes this video bc it adds an element that’s not in other gaming videos, the silliness of it all 🙌 dan continuing to yell at phil with his voice half gone, phil being king of comedy once again with his guesses (boob king)

-also the first fnaf video will forever be a favourite, I started watching them earlier that year bc of a friend that showed them to be and was obsessed with fnaf and the sound that the coffee mug made when it spilled is just one of those dnp things I can hear in my head it’s all very nostalgic

-post hiatus: not gonna choose a baking or reacting to pinof or fashion or twitter video bc we’re loose with the term gaming now but in this context it feels unfair so I’m going to say trunk dexting purely for the fun or it takes two- I think it’s such a good example of them doing actual gaming (no offense lmao) and I like that they’re both playing the game, problem solving, teamwork, and all the bants are we ever going to get part 2 who knows
