#guess I can never escape the blue hedgehog

For request: tails (or nine) noticing sonic has a concussion while hes running around and fighting?
Okay, you did say Tails or Nine but I took the latter and ran with it, even though I’m a bit unsure about whether I can write him correctly. Doesn’t hurt to try, I guess.
Thank you for the request!! Hope you like this <3 (turned out to be way longer than I expected but that's a good sign actually :) )
He shouldn’t have been out here; it was wrong and he didn’t like it one bit. He was exposed, he felt vulnerable, he knew this was definitely not a safe tactic in order to survive in the city, yet he kept on fighting, the gun on his hand shooting out bullets faster than the wind as they all pierced through their targets successfully.
Beside him, that blue hedgehog, who had managed to draw attention to them (despite warning him not to) seemed to enjoy every - spin attack he called them? – that he landed on the robots, smashing them to pieces with ease as though he wasn’t running at supersonic speeds. This power, was it actually his? It was raw, very impressive and potentially hazardous, especially in the wrong hands, but his control over it showed how much capable and experienced he was.
He couldn’t stop thinking about the hedgehog, who he was, what he was, how he got here, why he got here out of any place he could have travelled to.
And how ever since his arrival he effectively changed everything about this city.
Everything he knew about this city.
The Chaos Council never had any trouble eliminating their opponents. In fact, they never used these specifically designed battle robots they were mass producing to begin with because they didn’t need to. Whatever resistance the citizens had hopelessly brought to life, clearly wasn’t enough to fight against the conquerors and creators of this damned city.
So, one hedgehog was all it took to change fate, to spark hope?
He would rather die than admit it out loud but the reckless speedster had sparked the tiniest bit of hope inside of him. What he wouldn’t give to live in a huge and not polluted valley, surrounded by trees and grass and birds…To have friends, to be loved and cared for and-
His eyes flicked to Sonic just in time to witness him jump on a bigger mech this time. He wished he had a hero, someone to look up to, someone who would have protected him when he needed him the most, just like the Nine Sonic knew. He scrunched his nose as he tried to remember what he had called him; it wasn’t too hard though. Tails. It sounded like a dream; too good to be true. And Nine was certain it would be impossible for him to live the life he wanted to, the one he deserved to live.
A chuckle escaped him. “That’s just as unlikely as a fox flying.”
Still, he couldn’t help but fight alongside Sonic, his newly found hope urging him to move forward and search for the life he’d always wanted. Maybe supporting him would help him in the long run as well. Just maybe.
He had been ignoring all of Sonic’s remarks so far, all the: “You’re doing great, Nine!”, “Nice shot, Nin- is that a fucking gun?”, (he had rolled his eyes at that) “Keep it up, their forces are weakening!”, let alone all the witty ones directed to the enemies. There were too many to keep count of.
They were actually doing pretty well and Nine was surprised they made it this far without being captured by any of the bots. But it seemed like all of their efforts were futile as a new machine made its appearance in the battlefield: the egg baby robot.
“Hey, who invited the party pooper?” Sonic’s smug grin was plastered on his face as he turned around to look at Nine, pointing at the massive robot behind him. “Get it? Because it’s a bab-” He never got the chance to finish his joke, he was cut off by his own yelling as the mech had taken ahold of him and was squeezing him inside of its palm.
Nine had reached for him but wasn’t able to get him out of harms way in time. “Fuck.” He growled as he took aim, a new plan forming in his head as he started shooting at the robot’s feet. His attacks didn’t change a thing, Sonic was still wiggling inside of the mech’s grasp, brushing off the incoming bullets like they were made of paper.
“So, uh,” what was the idiot doing, talking to the baby when he was clearly trying to make a diversion, like any smart person would, “still sore about my butt kicking?”. He could hear the nervousness in his voice, despite the confidence his face was emitting, him trying to stall was his final resort.
Too bad it didn’t help at all.
The mech took a step forward as it shifted its entire weight to its arm, the one holding the helpless hero, despite his protests.
Everything that followed happened very fast.
Nine could only watch as Sonic was sent flying backwards, unable to do anything but wait for his fall which was interrupted by hitting his head on a pole. Hard.
“Sonic!” Nine rushed to him, an unexplainable force pushing him towards his direction. Using his metallic tails as a shield against the robot’s attacks, he was soon by Sonic’s side.
“Ughh, my head hurts.” So, he was in pain? And hadn’t acknowledged his presence next to him. Not good. Maybe if they got out of there, just in case they found a safe place he would be able to help. Just a tiny bit though, he was no doctor, despite his high intelligence. He kept his eyes on him, noting how he was hardly standing on his feet so he easily concluded that the hedgehog was in no place to keep on fighting.
“Sonic?” addressing him once more seemed to do the trick as Sonic turned around to face Nine, forcing a smile as soon as they looked at each other. “You need medical aid.”
“Ha! Me? I’m fine buddy!” he said, clearly lying. He kept losing balance and seemed way out of it. Nine was sure that if he held three fingers up, he wouldn’t be able to tell how many they actually were but he refrained from trying that and so, he remained justifiably not convinced.
But why was he so…worried?
Right. “Sonic you cannot fight like that, you’ll endanger us getting captured.” It was for the mission and for the sake of staying (relatively) safe in this hell of a city. They didn’t have the luxury to get caught by the Chaos Council, it would only cause troubles he did not really want to deal with at the moment. Yeah, for…for the mission.
“What you see is what you get!” Sonic stated (what exactly did that mean?!) as he curled himself into a ball and readied his spin attack, locking on his target. Which he missed by a large margin. How hard did he hit his head anyway?
Nine would not just stand there and watch the so-called fastest thing alive get up and try to punch the robot just to fall back on the ground without even having completed his poor attempt. Running as fast as his tails allowed him to, he was (once again) headed towards Sonic. But a gasp that escaped him made him stop dead on his tracks, as he watched the claw of the robot on its way to smash its opponent, possibly ending him forever.
Two seconds was all it took for him to run, jump, take Sonic and let his seven fully functional tails carry him as he turned around, taking aim and shooting at the cockpit with whatever ammo he had left, still moving backwards. That didn’t immobilize the enemy though and Nine quickly reloaded his gun. The next bullets that he shot found their target with ease just like the previous ones. Only this time, paint was splattered across the cockpit, blocking the baby’s eyesight.
He grinned. He knew paint balls would come of use one day.
He used a smoke bomb to completely rule out the chance they would be found. At least for a while. It would save them some time, all the time he needed to make sure Sonic is okay.
After a lot of running and taking turns, Nine found a narrow road where no cameras were detected. They’d be safe. They should return to his lab however, as soon as possible, yet without being followed.
He let Sonic on the ground, slowly and careful not to hurt him any further or make his current situation worse. He kneeled beside him, taking his head on his hands ready to examine him. That is until the hedgehog opened his eyes and looked at him with the most loving and caring expression he’d ever witnessed. He was surprised, conflicted, in pain. Yet, he found himself yearning for more.
“Heh, Tails, what are you doing bud?”
Tails. Of course. He should have expected it. “I’m Nine. Get it right.” he scoffed, disappointed in himself for believing someone would smile at a creep like him, someone would care about him. “Now stay still, I need to check your injuries.”
“Aww, Nine, you’re worried about me!”
“No, I’m not!”
“Yes, you are.”
“No, I’m n- and stop getting on my nerves or I’m gonna hit you.”
He was hoping Sonic was still feeling a bit dizzy (as it seemed like he was before) to save himself from the embarrassment of someone else noticing his reddened cheeks. Ignoring Sonic’s smug smile, he kept on searching for any serious injuries while simultaneously trying very hard not to lose focus.
“Just as I expected”, Nine sighed, mostly out of relief for breaking the deafening silence between them, “you have a concussion.”
He was waiting to see a surprised look on his face, a concerned one even but that wasn’t the case. “Pftt, that’s nothing, I’ve dealt with it before.” Sonic got up, a beaming grin appearing on his muzzle but faltering as soon as he lost balance. Despite playing it off as him posing - when he was actually supporting himself on the wall to not fall down- Nine was no idiot and was having none of his bullshit.
“Since you’ve dealt with this before as you say,” he got up, holding Sonic by his shoulders and pushing him back on the ground, forcing him to sit down, “you might also know how it should be treated.” His voice was even and calm, dangerously calm, partly because he knew that Sonic’s answer wouldn’t be one that he’d like.
“Chili dogs and kicking robot ass?” And, there it was, his innocent looking (which was also a nervous one according to Nine’s judgement) smile did not help at all.
“No.” It was his turn to smile, Sonic’s frame shrinking slightly, probably afraid of what he knew he would hear next. “Resting for three days.”
The following reaction was most definitely an unexpected one for the young fox. An overexaggerated gasp and a thud later, the hedgehog sat up once more. “Please, please, please, you can’t do this to me. I-” he paused, looking away from his eyes for a brief moment, “I need to save my friends.”
Nine wasn’t sure if he felt confused, amazed or jealous. How dumb was he to prefer neglecting his health in favor of his friends? How much did he care about them? “Listen, you’re not saving anyone in your condition.” He’d help him find them. But not for Sonic! He was sure he would gain something from that and that’s all he cared about; himself. “You will in fact put the whole city in danger if you act recklessly.” Not that he cared about the city, he just happened to be one of the people who lived in it.
Sonic crossed his arms and pouted, acting like a bratty little child wouldn’t work on Nine.
“Okay, how about,” alright, it might have worked actually, “two days?”
“One.”
“One? That’s just exploiting my kindness.”
“One give or take.” He looked serious for the first time since he met him. “As I said, I’ve dealt with this before, one day should be enough.”
Nine seemed to consider it for a while but understood it was the best option he could have right now. “Alright, one day.” He extended his hand to Sonic. “Glad we agreed on that.”
Sonic eyed his hand, reluctantly taking it so he could stand up. “Yeah, but it doesn’t mean I will like it. Not running feels like hell to me.” He groaned as he leaned against Nine in an attempt to support himself.
Nine chuckled at that, using five of his tails to help him move forward, allowing Sonic to wrap an arm around his shoulder, not exactly unwelcoming to the touch. “I’m sure we’ll find something interesting for you in the lab.” He side-eyed him while looking at his watch to determine how far from his home they were.
“The way you say it, it makes me feel like you’ll be giving me lab equipment to test out.” He rolled his eyes, he really seemed to hate being used as a guinea pig and who wouldn’t? “FYI, I’m not a hamster ball guy.” They started moving forward, Sonic managing to walk beside Nine thanks to his tails.
“I don’t have one.”
“Oh, thank Chaos, I was seriously getting worried.”

Golden Joinery
So my original plan for this was to write up some scenes for my fancomic about the start of season 3 of Sonic Prime, but it got a little longer over the week so it became a oneshot fanfic. Ha! xD
(Also I had some issues uploading this on AO3, so I'm gonna upload it here for now instead.)
Just a little bit of hurt/comfort. This one takes place after episode 16, Ghost of a Chance. Hope you enjoy!
--
"The only person I can trust is myself."
Shadow watched in silent rage as Nine carried the shards and walked away into a purple framed portal, leaving nothing behind. Sonic was standing below the cave entrance, he held his hands up to his face, hiding whatever expression he had.
Not that Shadow could see it from where he stood, but he guessed the blue hedgehog was pretty dejected about Nine's betrayal.
So much for that trust.
-
Harrowed by what just happened, Sonic repeated what Nine told him over and over in his mind.
"You just assumed I'd go along with you, no matter what."
"Did you even consider what I wanted?!"
"I am real!"
"Just.. not your real friend."
"Trust you? The only person I can trust is--"
".. you listening?"
He briefly snapped out of his thoughts when Shadow's voice broke through, who stepped directly in front of him. Sonic didn't even realize he already slumped down against the wall, didn't realize his darker counterpart was addressing him.
His hands lowered as he looked up in worry, expecting a seething Shadow with clenched fists at the ready. But there was none of that, Shadow simply crouched down to face him, mahogany eyes were now piercing into emerald ones.
"What happened here?"
".. You're really gonna ask me that?"
"Yes."
Sonic sighed. Where could he even begin explaining this mess to him?
"You were right about Nine, Shadow. He refused to fix Green Hill," he paused briefly to study Shadow's expression, then continued when he saw him nodding, "and he took the shards away."
Sonic's ears were lowered, remembering what he told Shadow right before the battle. "I really thought we could.." he trailed off as soon as his voice cracked.
"That we could trust him.." His throat felt too tight, it was hard to form words at this point. This was too painful, the previous mistakes he caused rushed back into his memory. His eyes were wide with shock and sorrow like never before, realized how much he really messed up.
"Sonic?"
Tears welled up in his eyes, he covered his face again and shifted away from his rival. How could Sonic ever fix this, it was lost on him. He could never face Shadow, not after he warned him about Nine for more than once.
By now they lost the shards, their only way to getting back home, because of him. He lost Nine, a friend he thought- no, believed- trusted him as much as he did Tails.
He was wrong. Again.
This is all his fault.
-
"Sonic?"
Shadow called out to Sonic, a hint of concern in his voice. His rival didn't respond, only shifted away as he covered his face again.
Just as he slowly reached his hand out, Shadow was caught off guard when he heard the small sobs that escaped Sonic's mouth.
He lowered his arm, eyes wide at the blue hedgehog that broke down in tears. This was beyond what he imagined; Shadow never expected Sonic to take Nine's betrayal this badly. His face turned to the floor, the way his rival cried already becoming too much for the ultimate lifeform.
What can he do at times like this? Shadow can't just tell Sonic to stop crying in this state, he had to approach this.. odd situation differently.
However, with little knowledge and experience on comforting others he found himself lost on solutions.
Well, there was one way he could think of. He had to swallow his pride to act on it, but for what its worth Sonic needed someone to be there for him.
Shadow sighed again as he held out his arms, wrapped them firmly around Sonic. He pulled him into a gentle embrace, knowing that he would definitely regret this one later.
"What am I going to do with you?"
-
Sonic suddenly felt something- or rather, someone- pressing against him, like he's being pulled into a hug. He opened his eyes to see the familiar quills of black and red, it took him by surprise as he realized it was Shadow who held him.
"What am I going to do with you?"
The blue blur's crying came to a brief halt, he refocused his vision to make sure it wasn't a trick of the mind. Yep, it was his broody rival who hugged him.
"S- Shadow?"
The dark hedgehog remained silent for a moment.
"I know you're not okay with what Nine did."
He paused at Shadow's words, and tears threatened to fall again. Sonic lowered his arms to hold him in return, chose to hide his tears by burying his face into the dark hedgehog's shoulder.
He slowly regained his breathing into a more stable pattern, taking his time to recover himself. The sobs have subsided after a minute or two, although his eyes grew tired from letting it all out of his system.
"You.. said you didn't trust him."
"I still don't," Shadow said this with absolute resolve, then he continued with a calmer tone, "but you did. You.. gave him a chance, and I'm not sure why, but I wanted to do the same."
Sonic didn't know how to respond to that, now that he was proven wrong. He let out a nervous chuckle at himself in defeat.
"I guess that makes two of us with trust issues."
Shadow looked at him briefly before a sad smile rested on his face. "Yeah, you can say that again."
They both held each other through the silence in the cave, an unexpected turn yet most welcome on Sonic's case. He didn't realize how much he needed this until now, it made him appreciate Shadow being there more than ever before.
"Thanks, Shadow."
-
He knew he was taking his time with calming Sonic down, but the contact felt also comforting to the dark hedgehog. The reason he decided to let go was Sonic being too sentimental about it. Or that he realized he might regret letting go after all.
"Um, anyway.. what I'm trying to say is;" Shadow pulled Sonic away as he cleared his throat, "you shouldn't give up because of this."
The blue hedgehog scoffed at him with a confused pair of eyes, appearing offended.
"I wasn't going to give up on our home."
"Good. Because we're still in this," his rival stood up when he said this, held out his hand to him with a smirk, "together?"
Sonic felt a surge of new hope rushing into him when he saw the confidence that Shadow's smile gave off. He grinned back at him before taking his offered hand, the hedgehogs faced each other with stronger, newfound bond.
"Together."
-
"Where did the shards go?!" Mr. Dr. Eggman shouted at the screen which scanned the area for prism energy. There were no energy spikes like it showed him before, which means..
"They moved the shards elsewhere.."
He grumbled to himself and moved back to his control panel, pressed a button to activate a video call.
"Members of the Chaos Council, fall back to the Mothership! The hedgehogs were a distraction; they took the shards away to another location!"
He didn't even bother waiting for a response from the rest of his team and cut the call shortly. There was another problem at their plate, as Mr. Dr. Eggman checked their ship's energy storage.
They barely have enough leftover energy from the shards, it could only track them through at least one or two more gateway.
"Curse these hedgehogs!"
He slammed the control board down in rage. They wasted too much of their time and effort into this chase game, when they could have used all that prism energy to build their empire and destroy the rebellion!
In that moment, the evil genius' brain remembered something. And it brought him a newer idea, that these two rodents might be the key to more than just restoring the lost shards. Mr. Dr. Eggman allowed himself a grin at his new revelation, and quickly began preparing the Mothership to retrieve the rest of the Chaos Council.
Should this plan work as intended, the power to dominate the multiverse will be immediately at their grasp.

Well, that's about it. Thanks for reading! ^^

Sammy Lawrence : Basilica in Florence?!
Inky Albarn : It will be the place for me and that Crona Kid, one of the experiments that you created.
Sammy Lawrence : What experiment? he had been in that room with a heartless that looks alike that awful witch from the museum in Boston! (Leaves)

Soul Eater Evans : So. It's about that incident of that girl who caused amount of energy to create an explosiove shockwave that destroyed Japan's population. Sounds like that she's the dangerous threat to humankind as well, that mean one thing. I bet it's the power that combines Anger and sadness, grieved with the Despair given out by Sephiroth or a mysterious being responsible for the facade of the Ohkuboverse! Whatevs! Maka Albarn : Excuse me, but are you Soul Eater Evans? May I take a ride with you?
Soul Eater Evans : Sure anything you want, ba... (attempts to say "Babe", but stutters) H-he-he-Hello! Who are you stranger? You need a ride?
Maka Albarn : I was wondering if I could ride to get a great view of this beautiful town.
Soul Eater Evans : That's wonderful babe. Then hop on. I'll take you for a ride.
Maka Albarn : Sure. It'll be funs as--EVEEEEEEER!!! [Runs off]
Maka Albarn : Wow! You're really fast! Where did you get this cool bike of yours!?
Soul Eater Evans : You don't wanna know.
Maka Albarn : Well, I haven't known you since 1994.
Soul Eater Evans : 1994? That was around 9 years ago. You didn't met me on that day since kindergarten. You might be the girl that caused the explosion to wipeout 80% of Japan's population 9 years ago.
Maka Albarn : Yeah, that would be me that is responsible for Japan's Destruction. I was that girl after the masked boy saved my life from destroying everything. So it's good that my family is with me and I'm glad that nothing bad happens to me. So anyway, I'm Maka Albarn, what's your name?
Soul Eater Evans : It's Soul Evans, you can just call me Soul Eater.
Maka Albarn : Soul Eater Evans? That's a weird name for a guy like you. Well, in that case. It's good to meet you, Soul. I think that we should get along, as friends together!
Soul Eater Evans : Yeah, friends together!
"Who said anything that friendship is really different to a relationship?"
"That's my way of thinking of a cool guy."

🎉HAPPY 30TH SONIC🎉
Tumblr media
Better late than never, huh?
Here's to all the Sonics of the last 3 decades, and the many more to come 🥂 there's 62 Sonics in this drawing, and I left some out. If you can name them all, kudos to you 👏
This franchise means a lot to me, and after being a fan for almost 2 decades, I owe it a lot. I remember playing Sonic with all my siblings together when I was younger, and my brother having to "kill the guy on the stairs" for me in City Escape because it was too hard. We teamed up to button mash and beat Final Hazard, and we would replay it over and over just to learn the lyrics to Live and Learn. I saw Sonic X when it premiered and would go to Blockbuster every week to rent a copy of SatAM/AoStH.
Sonic was one of the main things that got me into art and making my own characters and stories. I learned to draw cartoons by tracing shots from the shows, and Tracy Yardley's work in Archie Sonic issue 200, which was the first comic I ever owned. That poor issue fell apart since I carried it with me and drew over it so many times, but it still sits on my shelf every day while I'm working. It was always a huge dream of mine to work on something official, and I would have never guessed that working on the Sonic comic would actually be my first break into the industry?! WILD😭
I can't thank the editors, artists, writers, and everyone on the IDW Sonic team enough for welcoming me and making that dream a reality. Everyone involved is so dedicated to creating a great environment and it really shows 💕
Shoutout to my friends and roommates who have to listen to my 3am rambles about why Dark Sonic deserved more screentime - or how Sonic is the ultimate lifeform - or go to conventions with me dressed as Sonic and Shadow and wreaking havock - or watching Sonic X during finals week on the school projectors until they overheated.
You guys are feeding my addiction and it is all your faults, but also I'm thriving, and now you know a lot about a fictional blue hedgehog, and that might help you in some weird trivia game show or something down the line, idk
Happy birthday Mr. Hedgehog

They might be monster hunters and that might mean their lives are fraught with chaos and danger. But there were moments in between the contracts and courts, fragile and wavering like the dying embers of a flame; where pasts, and hopes, and dreams were shared in the refuge of the campfire.
Word Count: 1,764.

A/N: So this is my second to last Jasonette July fic but the last to actually be posted in July since the other fic (Prompt: Loss) is taking longer than expected to write, whoops! Anyway here's a shorter Witcher au that's mostly fluff with a tinge of sadness here and there. Definitely feels weird to be using/needing so few tags for the first time in a long while! Lastly, thanks to my friend Saf whose reactions to the snippets I send her, absolutely fuel my will to write!
Also side note, Don’t Like? Don’t Read. Also also, please do not criticise any of my writing. This was written for fun and receiving criticism, even in a compliment/criticism sandwich, is the exact opposite of fun.

The fire crackled gently, flames flickering in soft almost hypnotising patterns. The light and warmth were all that was keeping the chilling coastal mist at bay, from reaching their little makeshift camp.
Crescent moon and stars twinkled above, shining their silvery light down to mix with the ghostly mist below.
It was almost haunting, in the precious silence, punctuated only by the gentle lapping of waves against the cliff rocks not too far away. And the low hum of the local nocturnal bugs and other such creatures; the flap of bat wings, the cry of an owl, the flutter of moths and beetles, the scuttling of hedgehogs, mice, and foxes. The air was still, not even the faintest sea breeze and yet the fret rolled and crept and seeped into every nook and cranny outside of the protective glow of the campfire.
Jason sat on one side of the fire, on his bedroll and worked on cleaning his silver and steel swords with a rag, not quite humming as he quietly mouthed the words to a jaunty little tavern song, the Fishmonger's Daughter.
On the opposite side of the campfire, on her own bedroll, Marinette had a cloak splayed out across her knee with a needle and thread in hand. Tongue sticking out slightly, in concentration, carefully she darned away at the numerous little holes that had formed from walking through the thorny bush filled forest that their current contract had led them into entering.
With a huff, Jason threw the cleaning rag at the saddlebag on the ground beside him. He sheathed his swords and pulled out his favoured weapon, the crossbow with steel and silver-tipped bolts. Immediately he began checking the bolts for any potential damage and ensuring the shooting mechanism on the crossbow hadn't jammed.
“Something on your mind, Blue Jay?” Marinette asked, glancing up from her needlework for a moment.
He tipped his head back and sighed. “I've been thinking…”
“That's new.” She responded, mirth glinting obviously in her eyes and the bubble of laughter in her tone.
Jason gasped in faux offence, mindfully dropping his crossbow and scrambling for the cleaning rag just to throw it at her face.
Before it could hit her, Marinette plucked it out of the air with two fingers. She hummed mock-thoughtfully. “Your aim's off.”
“You take that back! My aim is impeccable. Alfred said so!” He argued back.
She snorted. “Alfred is biased because he's your grandfather figure. And I'll take it back next time we get through an entire contract without you missing a single shot.” To punctuate her point, she tossed the rag back at him.
He half-dived for it, grabbing it with both hands and with it safely in his grasp, placed the rag inside the saddlebag beside him. Throwing his arms up in mock-exasperation, Jason scowled playfully at her. “C'mon! That's not fair, you've never gone an entire contract without messing up or missing with your magic either!”
“Yeah,” Marinette agreed with a nod of her head and a smirk on her lips, “but I've never claimed to be perfect at magic!”
Her words caused him to falter slightly. “Right,” he swallowed a breath of air thickly, “That reminds me of what I was going to say before we got distracted.”
She frowned, furrowing her eyebrows and putting on a softer tone. “What is it? As much as we joke, I'd never actually judge you for missing shots or anything else, you know that right?”
“Yeah, I know… I just.” He huffed in frustration. Hesitantly, he held her gaze with his own but not a second later, winced and shifted his to stare down at the flickering embers of the campfire pit. Avoiding eye contact with her. He clenched his fists. “D'you ever, I don't know, feel like this was all… a mistake?”
Scrunching up her face in confusion, she squinted at Jason. “What do you mean? As-as in taking the contract?”
“No! Well, yes but no. I mean…” He waved an arm, gesturing vaguely around them, “just everything. Becoming a Witcher. Or I guess in your case, a Sorceress. Do you regret it?”
When she didn't immediately respond, Jason huffed again, hunching his shoulders up and practically bristling like a particularly grumpy and grizzling moggy. “Look, never mind. Stupid question.”
“It's not stupid!” Marinette retorted, “I just… wasn't expecting a question like that at this moment.”
He stared at her expectantly. “Well?”
Tipping her head back slightly, she fiddled with the needle still in one hand and sighed. “I suppose I do, I know I shouldn't… but I miss the easy days. Like before I knew what I was capable of. Before I knew what horrors the world could bring. Back when my only worries were getting stitches right and not messing up when dealing with expensive materials. Or maybe having to worry if the Alderman's daughter was going to harass me at some point during the day.”
Marinette tilted her head forwards again, a frown gracing her lips, and shrugged. “What brings this up?”
There's not an immediate response, as Jason casts his gaze away from the fire—towards where the sea could be heard but not seen. His fingers twitched midair, almost as though plucking the strings of an instrument. “I never wanted to be a Witcher. I was a Child Surprise, dunno who was the one that offered the Law of Surprise though.”
“Ah, I sorta get that. I'm also a Child Surprise, didn't get to choose to be a Sorcerer either.” As she spoke, she nodded in solidarity.
Jason jolted, gaze immediately snapping up to stare at her, completely taken aback. “Wait seriously? You're a Child Surprise too? How'd that happen?”
“Well, my parents' bakery was attacked and Félix, y'know my mentor, saved them. He invoked the Law of Surprise, expecting to get bread or some other baked goods.” She snorted, “he was awfully surprised to end up getting me instead. And when I accidentally cast my first ever spell trying to escape the Alderman's daughter, I ended up teleporting to Félix.”
“So, wait Félix fucking invoked the Law of Surprise to get food? And got you instead. Holy fucking shit that's hilarious!” He wheezed, doubling over in raucous laughter.
Huffing, she cast a spell, causing a vine to sprout up out of the ground beside him and slap him on the knee. “Yeah, yeah, laugh it up!”
“Ouch! Hey, no fair!” Jason mock scowled, choking back any further laughter. Quickly, in retaliation, he cast a weak Aard.
The telekinetic wave knocked into Marinette, pushing her onto her back from the weakened force.
“Wha—! Oh, so the vine isn't fair but throwing me to the ground is!” She griped, crossing her arms (carefully as to not prick herself on the needle) but made no attempt to get up.
Half-shrugging and grinning smugly, he replied, “you started it!”
She made an exaggerated groaning noise in response before slowly shifting her position to push herself back up into sitting cross-legged. “Well, now you know how I became a Sorcerer. How'd being a Child Surprise tie into you ending up a Witcher, if you don't me asking?”
“I dunno,” he shrugged with both shoulders this time, “I tried to steal the infamous Bat of Gotham's horse, he asked me my name. Reluctantly and after some bribery of hot food, I told him. Didn't think to give a fake one, at the time. He made a face, invoked the Law of Surprise owed to him and dragged me back to the Bat Witcher school.”
“Huh,” Marinette responded, “so if you hadn't… what would you have done with your life?”
Jason raised an eyebrow at her. “Seriously? This is me we're talking about. I'd have gone to Bard College, obviously. I'd have written poems and shit. And books, I'd have written books.”
Scrunching up her face once more, Marinette glanced down at the needle in her hand. “We're by the coast.”
“What?” He asked incredulously, giving her a bemused and questioning look. “What does that have to do with poetry and books?”
In a rush of words, she rambled, “we could take a holiday. I could find out about the spell to disguise your eyes… and uh hair too. That way no one will know you're a Witcher. And we can go to the bard college-town that's down the coast from where we are. We can scavenge together enough gold for you to attend, and you can write your poetry and books.”
Jason stared at her in shock, tears pricked at the corners of his eyes. Softly, as though anything louder than a whisper would cause the offer to shatter like his childhood dreams once had. “Oh, oh, could you really?”
As warmly as the fire between them, Marinette smiled, “of course! I'd have to ask Félix first of course. But he fell in love with Bridgette and she was a Witcher and he came up with a spell to disguise her whenever they weren't doing contracts or courtly politics. So I don't see why he wouldn't show me how to do it!”
Shakily, he wiped his eyes and smiled back. “Fuck, I'd love that!”
“Okay then! I'll contact Félix on the xenovox tomorrow.” As she spoke, a yawn slipped past her lips. “I think I'm gonna head to sleep now. I'll see you in the morning!”
“Good night, Marinette. I'm gonna stretch my legs real quick first.” He answered, hefting himself up and stretching his arms. “Sleep well, though.”
“Be careful!” Marinette yawned again and packed away her needlework for the night. She then wriggled into her bedroll. “And I'll try, g'night!”
“Night,” he whispered once more.
Quietly, so as to not disturb her, Jason slipped away from camp. Following the direction of the fret, he made his way down the safest cliff path he could find in the dark until his boots hit the sand. Step by step, he walked across the beach until the sea spray spattered against his clothes. He's close enough that the waves gently lapped at the toes of his boots.
Clutching one hand to his chest, just over where his heart was, Jason sighed and gazed longingly at the mist-shrouded sea.
“I never thought I'd get to continue my dreams after becoming a Witcher.” He whispered to the wind. “And now I can, thanks to her.”
He sighs again, heart warmed. And silently in the quietude of the beach at night, he cries alone. For his heart is too full with the kindness of another to contain the feelings any longer.

Shadamy Swordland ch 6 |
Rouge brushed the dust from her clothes after scolding Shadow about his reckless move, whose attitude remained as indifferent as ever.
“Guys?-” Amy said, trying to get their attention.
“I knew what I was doing!”
  “Sure didn’t look the part.”
“Guys, look!” The pink hedgehog shouted. “A floating city…?!”
Shadow and Rouge finally paid attention to her, turning their heads to look at her. Amy walked towards the end of a cliff and bent over to the edge to overlook the place they ended up on. Multiple sandstone paths winded across the skies along floating, vine-clad buildings with spiralling paths around them, leading to the top. Shadow joined her, hooking a finger behind her belt to keep her from a potential fall into the depths he couldn’t see the end of.
“It’s so beautiful… We should have a date here sometime.” Amy dreamily glanced at Shadow.
Rouge whistled, impressed by their discovery. She flew to the closest floating pathway across from the others and created a connecting road between them, closing the gap so they could cross. Amy ran forward to the path and yanked Shadow along with her, who had forgotten he was still hooked on her belt. The male tumbled onto her, his weight pressing on her, making her falter. He quickly unhooked his finger from her belt and curled his arm behind her back to catch her.
“Gotcha. You need to start watching your back more if you still want that date, Rose.”
 _____________________________
Meanwhile elsewhere on a floating island above the sky-high ruin befallen floating city the three had set foot on, an echidna picked up the slightest of vibes of a familiar energy. He rested against the stone stairway that led to an altar, his eyes closed as he concentrated on the waves of energy that unexpectedly drifted among the upward winds. He rose and walked towards the bridge that connected the floating island to the city below.
‘Knuckles’, the guardian’s name, attempted to seize some shards of green energy that whirled up to the island, but couldn’t get a hold of it. They flew off in different directions, escaping the grasp of his hands. He doubted for a second.
“No, I’m sure of it. This has to be Chaos Energy!”
The quizzical expression however didn’t leave his face for the gemstones he was guarding were right here with him. They were the only thing he’d ever seen that could produce this type of energy waves. He was more than familiar with the stories of special Mobians possessing a strange power that could either use or produce Chaos Energy, but never saw one before.
“Guess it’s time for me to test out that sacred art skill.”
Every new-born member of the designated guardian family inherited a sacred art skill called ‘vision’ when they’d been given a name. After the naming ceremony, which would secure the bond between the Master Emerald and the future guardian, the skill would develop along with them as they grew up.
The ‘vision’ allowed them to sense Chaos Energy up to a 15 mile radius around them. It also gave them the ability to ‘jump’ into an image, zooming in on it like a telescope. The most important thing about it though was that the guardians could make the entire island temporarily invisible to hide it from outsiders.
Knuckles rapidly blinked three times in a row, activating the skill and zoomed in on the source of the Chaos energy. Taking in three Mobians he saw walking on the floating paths of the Sky Sanctuary he gasped with unease. The black one made him recall something like he recognized him.
 “He looks like…-”
He ran back to the altar and quickly scanned the murals on it, his eyes widening at the shocking resemblance of the images and the Mobian strolling on the floating pathways below him. He looked at the black male again.
“It is him! But why? What’s he doing here? I’d better keep an eye on them.”
The guardian decided to track them from the island and casted a spell to turn the island invisible, not letting his curiosity getting the best of him.
 ___________________________
“So, what will you do when you’ve obtained the emerald, Rouge?” Shadow asked.
“I’ll take it to the man who’s willing to help me, like I told you.”
“What does he plan to do with it?”
‘He’s getting a little too interested in this. I’d better distract him.’ Rouge thought.
“Don’t you know it’s rude to ask so many questions?”
The bat acted overly insulted only to bump into Amy next when she wasn’t paying attention of what was ahead of her. The pink hedgehog had stopped walking without warning and the others immediately understood why. Unmistakably present was the amount of Chaos spores in the air ahead of them, leading upwards. Amy took a step forward.
  “Amy!”
“What do you think you’re doing?” Rouge yelled.
“What?! I’m going up there! To that floating island.” Amy pointed upward.
  “Floating island?” Shadow questioned.
“Sweetie, I don’t see anything up there. Maybe we should call it a day.”
“How- how can you NOT see it?! It’s right there! Look!”
Seeing the other’s puzzled expressions Amy finally believed they really didn’t see what she in fact saw: a bridge leading to a floating island. That’s where all the chaos energy’s concentrated. How could they not see it? Especially with their sacred arts levels higher than hers.
“It’s really there! I’m telling you it’s real. I’m not crazy, okay!”
Shadow and Rouge first glanced at each other with a kind of concern before shifting their gaze at Amy.
“I don’t rule out that there’s something up there, okay? But let’s call it a day and go back here another time. “ Rouge said.
  “Agreed.” Shadow added.
“Fine. I’ll show you when we get back here.”
 _______________________________________
After Amy and Shadow parted from Rouge they walked back to the academy in the dark. It had started snowing again and a bleak breeze flared up, dusting up the snow in tiny, cold whirlwinds of powdery snow. Before Shadow waved his student goodbye and paced on to his home, he told her to get a good night of sleep before the sword fight tournament tomorrow. He hoped she wouldn’t be too tired from today’s events. Bending over to the flower pot next to the front door to pick up his keys from underneath it, he suddenly felt someone’s hands on his shoulders.
“You and I need to talk!”
His fellow knight hissed at him while dragging him into the shadows of the alley next to the hedgehog’s house. Blaze yanked Shadow towards her, their metal breastplates clanking at their touch. The cat pulled him up by the little chest-fur that managed to pop out from under his armour, poking a finger in his muzzle. Her eyes fiercely glanced at his own crimson ones.
“Why are you still hanging out with her? On your day-off that is. Don’t you understand how this will add to the already existing rumours?”
He pushed her away and stepped back. “What’s your problem?! It’s dark and no one’s even here.”
“I am. I caught onto it. Someone else might as well.”
“We have been training in the woods today in preparation of the tournament tomorrow. I have nothing to hide apart from my trainee’s excellent swordfight skills, that is.”
“It doesn’t look like that, Shadow! You return in the dark after spending the day together. You’re constantly looking over your shoulder and scanning the place the entire way you’ve been walking with her as if to make sure no one catches onto you two.”
“We’re just trying to avoid causing more rumours. I’m not even the least bit interested in her like that. I don’t care about romance, Blaze.”
“Well, you’re clearly getting along with her. Even if what you say is true, it looks suspicious.”
“See what you wanna see. I don’t care.”
The lavender coloured cat grabbed his shoulders, genuine concern glistering in her eyes.
“Care about it a little more, will you?! As a member of the high order of knights you have a reputation to uphold! We all do. Your actions might affect all of us.”
“No need to remind me. Now stop sticking your nose in my business and worry about your own student. That hyper-annoying blue hedgehog is a real troublemaker.”
Blaze’s face showed a variety of changing expressions at Shadow’s statement. Sonic was an adventurous spirit with an impulsive nature and when he felt it was needed, he turned out to be a true rebel at heart. It often lead Blaze to the board’s office to apologize on behalf of him when Sonic refused to. Her cheeks coloured a bright pink, all much to Shadow’s amusement.
“That’s… beside the point right now! I propose the idea that you two will only train inside the training facilities and domes for a while, so you’d be in si-“.
“Rejected. It’ll disadvantage her in battle. Amy has as much right to develop her fighting style in secret as anyone else.”
“If you truly have nothing to hide, this shouldn’t be a problem.”
He shrugged himself free of her hold.
“This conversation’s over. Good night, Blaze.”
 ___________________________
 “Hey Ames!”
Sonic excitedly waved at his pink friend when spotting her entering the Ruby Dome’s dressing room. He walked up to her, tossing her towel to her. Amy caught it with ease and wiped the sweat from her forehead while gulping down a glass of water.
“Ah, thanks! I needed that. Are you up next?”
“Sure am. How did your matches go?”
“I’ve won every single one of them.” Amy smiled like a victor.
The blue hedgehog gave her a thumb’s up while holding the door open for her to enter the main battlefield in the dome. Shadow and Blaze greeted their students and Amy proudly told her friend and trainer how she’d won all of her matches today. The cat expressed her gleeful surprise about Shadow and Amy’s secluded training session the other day, only to display the suspicion in her jade eyes.
“That’s me! Wish me luck, will you?”
  “Good luck, Sonic!”
As Amy watched Sonic enter the battlefield, she saw Shadow enter after him. She’d completely forgotten Shadow competed against the seniors today. Amy knew very well that both Sonic and Shadow were crazily fast and both had outstanding sword and dodging skills. It was still likely for Shadow to win, but every spectator today knew this match ought to be very interesting.
Both hedgehogs had that peculiar look on their faces with a certain grin curling their lips and a certain seriousness in their eyes. Amy couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy. She took a seat next to Blaze whom she felt had a similar nervousness over her. Amy said a little prayer in her thoughts that Blaze wouldn’t start questioning her about Shadow. She felt guilty enough already as it was for lying to her.
“Good luck Sonic, you’ll need it” Shadow challenged him.
  “Heh, we’ll see about that.”
Sonic’s grin widened and he scratched his nose. They nodded once at the referee, readying themselves at his countdown. The way the hedgehogs’ body language showed the energy inside them made it more than obvious both had long anticipated a match like this. At the sound of the ringing bell the two dashed forward, racing towards their opponent, leaving a cloud of dust behind.
Confidently preparing for the incoming impact of their swords clashing against one another, Shadow neared his opponent, effortlessly matching his speed. Searching for an open spot to strike, the two hedgehogs closed in on each other. Sonic’s eyes fixed on Shadow’s sword to block his upcoming strike.
Within the last two or three steps away from him, he felt his heart jolt inside his chest, his eyes drawn to their swords. The spectators screamed enthusiastically behind them. The small piece of emerald on the handgrip of Shadow’s sword flared with light as he dashed forward. The air filled with thousands of tiny turquoise fireflies, which Amy now knew were actually Chaos spores.
“Oh boy… “ Amy squeaked, holding her breath.
“You’ve seen this stuff before?” Blaze asked.
“Errr, yes! It’s some sort of energy.”
The metal swords clanked against each other with tremendous impact when Sonic blocked his opponent’s strike. His sword suddenly blazed like Shadow’s after their touch, creating a large bolt of nasty bright light. Like he had hit the break at once everything just stopped around them, totally frozen in time. He was only able to move his eyes and shifted his gaze from his sword to Shadow. The black hedgehog looked back at him, clearly experiencing the same thing.
In the blink of an eye a small emerald was laid in the handgrip of his sword, blazing as fiercely as Shadow’s. It sent a powerful rush through his body before the frozen world came back alive again. The bolt of light swung them high into the air, smashing them down on the opposite sides of the battlefield with a loud crash. Neither of them moved. Clouds of dust formed above the place the hedgehogs crashed into the ground while the crowd gasped in shock in the stands behind them.

END NOTES
Pfff this took me long enough. I’m actually not at all satisfied with this chaper. I feel like it’s a little stiff. Bleh. I just don’t know how to write it differently.  This always happens though. Somewhere along the process of writing a story I start to dislike what I write because it lacks decent quality imo...  AAAAHH!
Anyway here it is! I still hope the ppl who do read it enjoy it. As always: annoying drammar mishaps/typos or tips and thoughts are welcome. Be friendly though :) Just message me.
I’m also working on a couple of oneshots and drawings. In between now and June I’ll be busy making a portrait of my grandpa who passed away in november (he had covid). I promised my grandma I’ll make her a painting of him for her birthday in june.

Full Chapter: Green Hill Zone 0.5
It was relatively quiet in the Garden Sector the two White Berets chose to patrol. Although it wasn't the greatest park on the city planet of Grand Acornia, the Green Hill Zone was still pretty amazing. It was practically its own little world.
As the brown groundhog wearing a white beret watched and looked around, he sighed. "Why are we even here today? Its not like the Green Hill Zone is even the most popular garden sector. Also, its likely most of us are keeping watch on the more urban centers. No telling how soon Robotnik's going to get here...I mean, he's likely already conquered the Hedgian sector, considering how General D'Coolette disappeared."
The purple bird with the same outfit on near him, shook her head, looking into the sky. "There's no telling, really. ...But, it is worrying that we haven't heard from him. I hope he's just pinned down in Hedgia somewhere, but, we've got word of him moving through our sector. ...Its strange, though. We haven't heard anything from the central sensors, even though he should already be here by now."
The groundhog muttered something that sounded pretty dark. But, perhaps he was justified in doing so. Few liked the resident Acornian 'Warlord', afterall... "Kodos is insane. Its as if he expects Robotnik to roll over and surrender as soon as he gets here. It doesn't feel like he's taking this threat seriously...Maybe we shou-"
"Shhhhh!" She held her hand up to her beak, causing him to look over toward her. "Look." She pointed up, and, there, making a steady descent toward the planet, was something fairly round, and decent-sized in the atmosphere, probably no bigger than an escape pod.
Eyes widening, he stood up. "How did something like that get past our sensors without anyone knowing?!"
She shook her head. "I don't know...But, from what I can tell from the angle of its descent, it looks like it's going to land right here." As she continued watching the object in question, her eyes looked filled with worry. It was definitely looking more like an escape pod, as it got closer...But, there was no telling who or what it would have in it exactly. "We need to send an evacuation order."
Almost as if he had had the exact same idea, he was already reaching for his communicator, nodding in response to her, getting into the area wide transmission for all the hidden speakers strewn throughout the Green Hill Zone Garden. "Attention all Acornian residents in the Green Hill Zone! We have an unidentified object looking to make impact somewhere here! Please proceed toward the exits in an orderly fashion!"
...He practically rolled his eyes, as he heard exclamations over the area. It didn't sound like everyone was panicking, but, a few were definitely acting more scared than necessary, at least by his logic.
His fellow guard shook her head, as if she was already guessing what he was thinking. "Everyone's worried about Robotnik. At least most of them have the common sense not to panic over it, right?"
He sighed a bit. "Right...Common sense. Because thats what it's called when big ol' Kodos acts shifty, reassuring all of us thats it gonna be 'fine'..."
Standing up, the bird placed on her comrade's shoulder, looking concerned for him. "Hey. We will make it through all of this...Right?"
He looked back at her for a few moments, doubt clear in his eyes, but then he shook his head, and sighed again. "Right, you're right. Even if we can't rely on Kodos, maybe General D'Coolette's boy will come through for us."
She smiled a bit, nodding to try and help reassure him, before she looked back up at the sky. Seeing how the pod was much closer now, she didn't look any less worried about it.
The groundhog turned his head. "How long do you think it'll be until it-?"
He grunted, placing his hands on his ears, as the pod seemed to answer that question for him, crashlanding into a spot not too far away from them, shovelling up a whole lot of dirt for up to twenty-five feet, then just stopping. Shaking his head, the groundhog waved at his companion to follow, moving over to the pod. As they got there, he looked over what all they could still see of the pod. "Well, looks like its definitely some sort of variety of escape pod."
Having followed him, she nodded, looking it over and- "Look!" She pointed to a symbol on the side of the pod: A hedge, with an ornate sword in the middle, circled by a golden ring.
His eyes were practically bugging right out of his head. "That's the Royal Hedgian symbol! Who the heck-?"
As if answering his question, the pod hatch began to open, and, they could hear coughing sounds from inside it. That didn't sound too good.
As they both looked inside, they could see a male blue hedgehog, probably not any older than thirteen, wearing what looked to be the scarf.
"We need to help him out of there," the groundhog mumbled, and, the bird girl, with some trepidation nodded. They both reached in, grabbed his hands, and helped to pull out of the pod, onto his feet on the ground.
He seemed a bit dazed...And, now that they could look over him a bit better, he seemed to be wearing odd clothes. On the long black scarf, there where several little white star-like shapes, representing what you might see looking into space from a distance. Some of the little white dots were more filled out, looking to be closer, and, some looked like specks, more distant than the others. But, star-themed clothing itself wasn't necessarily an oddity in any Mobian sector, no. There were a fair amount of people who wore varying types of space-themed clothing.
Rather...The oddity lay in the red symbols adorning his choice of apparel: Mobius Strips. Some would even call them '8's or infinity symbols. There was a large, painted, red metallic '8' shaped ring on the end of his scarf, a red '8' on the center of both of his white gloves, and, on his red and white shoes, there were red, horizontal '8's on each side of his shoes. It was a bit peculiar, to be honest. While the strip was considered an important symbol through the galaxy(Not only did it represent infinity, but, the Mobius Strip lanes were also the method used by space travel for the majority of the galaxy's inhabitants), it was odd to see it used in their apparel, by someone who looked more like an ordinary teenager, than an infinity or chaos priest.
However, rather than focusing upon that for too long, the groundhog looked right at him. "Hey, kid, you okay? That couldn't have been the easiest landing." Seeing that the kid was having a bit of trouble standing, he positioned himself under his arm, helping to lift him more firmly up onto his feet, grunting. "There ya go."
The other white beret, however, didn't look so helpful, just yet. Instead, she looked right at the hedgehog with suspicion. "You're from the Hedgian sector, correct...? Why does your pod bear the Royal Hedgian crest?"
The young man looked up at her, honestly seeming kind of confused. "Wha...?" Seemed like he was just orienting himself. The groundhog didn't know why his partner was interrogating the kid already, especially since he didn't seem dangerous. More dazed, honestly. "I-I dunno what you're talking about...Where- Where are my parents?" Concern started to show heavily on the hedgehog's face. "W-where's Fi? Mighty, Mina, Ray? A-are they okay...?"
The groundhog gave his companion a bit of look. "Hey, Clarice? I know you're worried, but, you were the one who was just telling me a minute ago everything was fine. Why are you interrogating the kid like this...? He's clearly a refugee. And, the only refugee from Hedgia we've seen, at that!"
As Clarice took in what he said, her face softened, and she sighed. "I know, you're right..." She moved under the arm, helping him to stand up better, grunting a bit herself." Still, I think we should bring him before the king. Like you said, he is the first refugee from there we've seen, after all."
The groundhog nodded. It wouldn't be a bad idea, anyway. King Nigel might have been the only king that he knew, but, still, he was the nicest king they knew.
However, before they could get too far-
"Wait!" A young, female chipmunk suddenly burst out from some nearby bushes, not looking any older than the hedgehog. She was wearing a black shirt, adorned with pointy yellow star patterns, and, wearing a blue jacket, the pocket of which stored some sort of boxy electronic device. She was also wearing blue goggles, with golden rims. "I-I want to come with you."
The groundhog groaned a bit. "Look, kid, we need to get him before the king and-"
"Wait," Clarice spoke up. "Ron, don't you recognize her...?"
Ron blinked a bit, looking a bit more closely at her and- ...He had no idea why, but, he was only just realizing now, that this was none other than Princess Sally Acorn. Of course, part of the reason why he hadn't recognized her as first, was likely because she wasn't wearing any sort of royal ensemble. Princess Acorn practically never wore any sort of tiara, or other royal outfit these days, if she could help it. Anyway, he knew what was going to happen, if he declined to let the princess follow them...She was probably going to complain to the king. She did have a fascination with things outside of Grand Acornia, after all.
With a heavy sigh, he looked at her, and just sort of nodded. "Yeah, sure, you can follow us, princess."
With a smile, the princess took a position behind them, and Ron rolled his eyes, moving with Clarice and the kid toward another exit.
...Honestly, though, he couldn't blame her. He was kind of curious about this kid from another sector himself.
--------
After they reached the royal throne room, Princess Sally decided to step back to the sides, and watch, as the royal white berets brought the other before the court, which consister of her father, King Nigel Acorn, in an ornate, blue and red kingly outfit, with gold trimmings, as well as her father's advisors, consisting of General Kodos, a hulking beast of a lion, wearing a heavy version of a typical Acornian General's uniform,  Walter Naugus, her king's vizier, all clad in his spooky purple and black wizard uniforms, Sir Charles, also known as Uncle Chuck, wearing some brown and green engineer's apparel, and, the skinny Dr. Ovi Kintobor, wearing his typical white scientist outfit as always.
OH, lest she forget, Antoine was there. To be honest, despite how formal he seemed to act, it felt like her father was accepting him as an honorary fourth advisor
Honestly, it wasn't everyday that a pod from another sector crashlanded on Grand Acornia. Better the Green Hill Garden zone, though, than any of the city planet's major population centers. To be frank, when she first saw the pod, she was suspicious, wondering if this might be some sort of Robotnik trap. But, to be honest, it would have been easier for him to grab something not belonging to the Hedgian royal family, since she had heard he had gotten several hedgian noble families into his pockets anyway.
...It was also weird how they hadn't heard anything about the Hedgian Royal Family themselves.
Suddenly, however, she was broken out of her train of thought by her father finally addressing the blue stranger, after the guards having finished talking. "I say, good lad," Nigel started, in a polite, cordial manner, "Is it true you're from Hedgia itself?"
The blue hedgehog, still looking shook up a bit, managed a nod. "Y-yeah, I was."
"Do you have a name?"
"Sonic, Sir."
"Ah, Sonic!" Nigel promptly smiled at that. "Good to meet you, Sonic. Do you have any friends or family, that you know of?"
Sonic took a moment, but, all of a sudden, he smiled. "Ah, that's an easy one, sir! My parents, Bern and Estelle. I've also got my pals, Mighty, Mina, Ray, and Fiona. All of them are pretty darn amazing!"
Nigel simply chuckled. Sally could only imagine what was going on in his head listening to this. Probably something like 'Ah, kids'. Anyway, the king spoke once more. "I see, I see. And, how long have you been with Bern and Estelle now?"
Sonic paused, double taking. For what reason, she had no idea. It felt like for the longest time, he hadn't said a word. Sally felt all sorts of antsy. What sort of mystery was afoot here? Did he not know how long he had been with his own parents? Was this actually the trap she thought it might be?
Finally, though, he answered, "A-about a year, sir."
This one caused Nigel to frown a bit. Even Sally could tell, there was something suspicious about that...Unless he had been an orphan until recently,  which did make sense, she supposed, but, there were the other signs, including the mobius strip imagery. That wasn't a common sort of thing, not by a long shot, even if some did see it as the symbol for infinity, or travel.
Anyway, Nigel finally spoke up again. "And, how much about your parents do you know, Sonic? And, don't worry if you don't wish to answer. I don't want to pressure you if you're unsure, or if it would make you uncomfortable." He told him, admittedly looking a bit concerned for the boy. Even she had to admit, under most normal circumstances, they should be welcoming Hedgian refugees with open arms, but, to be honest? Robotnik made that difficult. Humans and Overlanders made so much difficult at times, especially with their own noble houses, and military. At Least Acornia tended to be relatively peaceful, unless provoked. But, Robotnik and his army were on the war path, made up of not only robots, but, also, ex-GUN officials.
Anyway, seemed like Sonic was doing all he could to remember about them, before all of the eights/strips on his clothing started to glow red, on his scarf, gloves, and shoes, and he started to shake, causing Sally to look a bit fearful. What was this? What was even happening?!
After ten seconds, though, he finally collapsed to the floor, clearly unconscious.
Nigel stood right up. "Guards! Take him to a guest room so that he can get some rest, and recover from...whatever that was." Even he looked shook up from witnessing that.
Sally started to come a bit closer, and asked. "C-can I help...? Nothing about that seemed right."
Nigel smiled kindly at his daughter, and went, "I'm sure so long as we give him time to himself, he'll be fine. Granted, we should also have the royal physician check on him, to see if there's anything specifically wrong."
"I say we execute him!", Kodos suddenly exclaimed, rather dramatically, snarling as he saw two guards take the boy away.
"Are you daft, Kodos, or has all your stubbornness finally acclimated into pure stupidity? We have to study the boy for any sort of enemy magic!" Naugus berated him.
"Heavens no!" Ovi exclaimed.
"Don't be ludicrous!" Nigel snarled at Kodos and Naugus.
"He's only a boy!" Chuck told them...Yet, for some reason, he looked ill at ease. Almost as if he knew something that the others didn't.
Meanwhile, Antoine, who had been standing right by the king's side, had been watching, silently observing. Sally didn't know what to think of it, if she was being honest with herself...
--------
About an hour later, still in the throne room, stood the coyote, who had been pondering over the events from earlier for all this time now. Once things had quieted down, and there hadn't been any more royal business for the being, and the other royal advisors had departed, Twan spoke up. After all, what better time to talk about this than at that very moment? "Your Majesty, s'il vous plait, might we be discussing the hedgehog now?"
Luckily for him, while the king raised an eyebrow at this, he still nodded and said "Proceed."
Twan cleared his throat. "Well, not only seeing as we be knowing little about him, aside from what he himself be claiming, and the fact that he be coming here in a royal Hedgian pod, but, also that mon princess has been developing an interest in him,  we cannot, how you say, be too trusting of everyone, especially with what has been going on in Hedgian space, oui? Therefore, I would like to be being the hedgehog's escort for the time being." After all, someone had to be keeping an eye on him, and, if no one else, why not him?
The king thought about this, before nodding. "Very well, I wish to know more about him myself. Your request is granted."
The Coyote gave him a bow, and proceeded to leave the scene, all kinds of suspicions running through his head. But, of course, they were on Grand Acornia, which meant the hedgehog wasn't going to get away with anything suspicious on his watch...
--------
Hours later, in a very lavish bedroom, the blue hedgehog would start to stir. As his emerald eyes finally opened, he took in the room. "Wow, looks really, really nice..." For some reason, he didn't seem as in awe of the room as he should have been. "...Oh,  right, the throne room! Man, did I go unconscious or something while I was in there...? Gee whiz, just what is going on with me?"
He was looking around, when suddenly, he heard a knocking at the door. "Huh, wonder who that could be..." He finally got up, and started walking toward the door, before opening it up, and- Woah! There was that coyote dude he recognized who had been by the king's side.
"Bonjour, Blue Hedgehog...Tis being I, Antoine Decoolette, who has been being assigned to watch you as your escort from now on. Please be realizing, I will accept absolutely no kind of treachery from you, comprendre? If you do anything that jeopardizes the royal family, nay, the kingdom itself, I shall deliver unto you a butt kicking so ginormous, it shall make your father weep, wherever he be! Comprendre?"
Sonic backed up a bit, at first unsure about the route the conversation was taking...But, then, he just smiled, and chuckled a bit. The coyote was just trying to serve his people and country, that was all. "Yeah, don't worry, I'll try not to give ya a reason, Twan."
The coyote looked a bit shocked at first...Before nodding. "That is a good idea, mon ami. You can jus- Hey!" He declared in shock, as Sally suddenly just brushed right past him, coming in. "Princess, we don't really know anything about him, he's-!"
"It's okay, Twan, if he had any bad intentions, I'm sure he would have tried something by now."
Antoine stopped, groaning, and looking to the side, grumbling. "Is there being anyone who does not naturally grapple onto my nickname? Even Tails and Rotor did it after they first met me!"
Sally seemed to just kind of ignore him, focusing on Sonic at the moment. "Hey, you, mysterious stranger! Why don't you tell us some about yourself, okay? Like, if you can, what's your home like? What are your friends like? How did you end up on that escape pod?"
Sonic looked taken aback, but, then- "...Oh, right, the princess! Yeah, you were there in the garden zone when they found me, weren't you? I can tell you about myself...But, you have to do the same~ How about a game of ten questions?"
"Deal! Okay, lets, see, uhhhh...What was your home like?"
"Eh, if we're talking about the area where I was raised, homey, but, kinda boring. That's why I used to hang out with my friends so much. Okay, now for you, Twan mentioned something about Rotor and Tails. Who are they?"
"Oh, they're Uncle Chuck's apprentices, they're both basically prodigies when it comes to tech. You should meet them yourself. Okay, next question, what are your friends like?"
"Oh, all of them are pretty cool, especially Mighty and Mina." ...Well, that was a short answer. "Next one, who was that hedgehog that was with the king?"
"Uncle Chuck, I mentioned him to you when you asked about Rotor and Tails. He's one of my father's most loyal advisors, and, a great engineer. Now...how the pod thing happen?"
"..." Sonic scratched the back of his head. "Memories are kind of murky, but, I can remember Bern and Estelle launching that thing with me in it, inside our barn. They told me they loved me, then sent me here.  I kinda miss them, and my birth parents...Its kind of weird, though."
Sally blinked. "What is?"
"I remember having two moms at one point, but- That can't be right... Can it?"
Sally just kind of blushed, before shaking her head. "There are all kinds of life styles, Sonic. Anyway, I think we should go get Ice Cream."
Antoine deadpanned. "Princess, he cannot be of the going of anywhere without me, due to my being his escort."
"Then, you can come too, Twan. Remind me again, what's your favorite flavor?"
Twan couldn't help but blush at the current state of affairs, and answered somewhat meekly. "I-it's being mint chocolate chip..."
Sally nodded, and, once the three were ready, they proceeded to leave
--------
The royal engineering lab, the current residence of the Starblazer, a twenty-man fighting starcraft meant to protect not only against Robotnik's forces, but, whatever other threats they might face. Tails and Rotor were working on it at the moment, while Muttski was kind of just watching and studying. As for Chuck? He was in the corner...
Lamenting something. What was he lamenting? Well, not that the others would know, but, his brother, of course. Chuck'd been acting weird ever since he saw that other hedgehog in the throne room, the one who had arrived in the Royal Hedgian pod, and, it was probably because it brought not only memories, but, also, other things: Like regrets.
"Was that really him, Jules? He looks so grown up since I last saw them...Granted, its been a while since I've been to Hedgia. Too many scars, I think. Still, thats no excuse for their uncle to be making. I wonder how the other two are doing? They probably don't even remember me... I'm not sure even he remembered me. Then again, if I just come out of a landing like that- Eh...Better not ask too much. Sounds like something's happened...Something I don't know about."
--------
"I wonder what's up with Chuck," the two-tailed fox mechanic went. "He's not really like this usually...at least, not when we're working on something this big."
Rotor just shrugged. "Probably just thinking on his home country, Tails. He does get like that sometimes. Now, lets see here..." How could they improve upon the Starblazer? Felt like it already had some of the best stuff they could work on.
...As he was thinking on that, though, his thoughts turned to Sonic, the hedgian they had heard about. Wasn't it kind of odd that this was happening, just as Robotnik was seemingly getting closer? And, heck, felt like barely anyone actually knew what was going on with Hedgia. He bet Twan was suspicious of their new arrival, though.
He'd heard that Sally was also curious about him, though, and, Rotor couldn't help but wonder why. Probably because he was another outsider from Hedgia, most likely. With all the political turmoil involved in that sector, a lot of people were likely curious about what was going on.
Ah, well. After he had thought on for a little bit, he resumed his work with Tails on the Starblazer.
--------
As the Chinchilla ate her electric lemonade sherbet at the ice cream parlor, she couldn't help but think on what she thought was the biggest craze at the current time: Robotnik. From what it sounded like, he was the power on the rise, crushing enemy after enemy who got in his way. Who couldn't help but admire someone like that? Most of the fools in Grand Acornia, apparently...to them, he was a security threat, instead of a great and glorious overlord. But, she knew better! He would take them, and make them greater than they had ever imagined. It was only a matter of time!
Suddenly, though, three people came into the parlor. One of them was a coyote, wearing what looked to be an Acorn military uniform. She didn't know much about the others, but, one of them was wearing mobius strip themed clothing, with '8's, or infinity symbols all over, and, the other one was a chipmunk. Did that mean-? Bah, she hated the Acorn royals, always thinking they were the best, and that Robotnik was a menace. And, sure enough, it wasn't long before the three of them were dissing him.
Well, she didn't have to stick around here and take that,  did she? Quickly finishing her sherbet, the chinchilla known as Thunderbolt hastily took her leave. Once Robotnik was there, things would be better, she was sure of it.
--------
An hour passed, and the three were doing pretty well! While Twan was just sort of sitting and observing, the princess and the hedgehog were having somekind of conversation. Right now, they seemed to be talking about Sonic's past friends, including two of the male ones that he had previously.
"-And, poor Ray was terrified that entire time! I don't think I'd ever seen him so scared in all the time that I've known him! It took Mighty fifteen minutes just to coax him out of the tree!" Sonic chuckled. "And, all of that because of the biggest hopper you'd ever seen to come out of the pond."
Sally was snrking at first throughout the story, then, after he had finished, it boiled into full blown laughter. "Snrrrrrkk, Y-you know what, I don't think I've ever heard anything quite like that. You have quite the friends, Sonic the Hedgehog."
"Heh, yeah, I know. And, I'm willing to add more to my collection of them too, Princess~"
Sally couldn't help but blush. "Well, that sounds like a pretty good offer. I might have to take you up on it."
"Heh. You know, I really do have the best family and friends. Like my parents, and my bro and sis~"
Sally couldn't help but stare a bit at this revelation. "Really? Because, this is the first time I've heard you mention even having a brother or a sister."
A look of bewilderment crossed Sonic's face. "R-really? I- UGH!" He grunted, as all the '8's on him started to glow, and he seemed to react with great pain.
While Sally looked horrified, Twan regained his stoic composure. "Come," Twan told them. "He is needing somewhere to relax. Perhaps we should be taking a tram to some part of the Green Hill Zone, perhaps far from ze crash landing area?"
Sally nodded, and, they both heaved him up onto their shoulders, and carried him out.
-------
It didn't take too long, before the three of them were sitting on a bench in the Green Hill Zone. Thankfully, the infinity symbols on Sonic had stopped glowing by then.
"Hope you're feeling a bit more relaxed now," Sally said, still looking a bit concerned.
Sonic simply nodded, looking around at the Zone around them, before something seemed to catch his attention. "Awful sharp-looking flowers you've got around here, don't cha think?"
"Hmmm? Oh! Heh, those are to distinguish the Green Hill Zone from its zone of origin, the Emerald Hill Zone, which is in Western Acornia." Sally told him.
Twan was just watching and listening again. Sonic couldn't tell whether he was actually interested in any of this, or just doing his duty as escort.
"Yeah, I mean, that sounds cool," Sonic said to Sally, "but, what about the mountains and the lakes? I mean, aren't those a bit much for one garden zone?"
"Mmmmm, not really. They're here to give it a sense of both peace and grandeur. We have some pretty great equipment we can use, that can sort of just transfer whole areas. Its a testament to what the Peaceful Acornia can achieve, without any feudal politics going on, which is why we have such a centralized government, and most planets have trusted planetary governors."
Sonic just chuckled a bit. "Heh, they would never go for that thing-the government type, I mean-back in Hedgia. Too many nobles, too many powerful and interested parties. Even in the rural areas, its common knowledge that the nobles have waaayyy too much power over things. I bet Robotnik's bribed most of them, probably with benefits, and other things."
Sally blinked a bit. "Is the nobility in Hedgia really that ba-?" Suddenly, however, before she could finish, a bright light enveloped a part of the city, causing her eyes to widen, and her to murmur, 'Daddy...'
Sonic would later find out that it was the Royal Court's council hall that the weird light had enveloped...
------- While things had been going on with the others, the royal council had arrived in the council chambers. Well, arrived, so to speak, in the case of two of them: Sir Charles the Hedgehog, and Ovi Kintobor, royal scientist, were both only there via hologram. Why were they all here? Well, that's what they were there to find out, considering Ovi had been so cryptic when asking them all to come there.
"Sorry, but, I've gathered all of you here today to talk about Robotnik. I believe I've found a solution, to the somewhat imminent invasion."
Nigel hummed in thought. Finally, it was about time. Both him and Charles seemed curious. However, both Naugus and Kodos were acting a bit...Off. He couldn't put it into words, but, there was just something different about them during this meeting. Oh, well, they might just have both been antsy to use their skills to deal with the threat.
Anyway, he nodded at the scientist. "Go on."
"Well, I-"
All of a sudden, however, they felt some sort of impact on the planet, and the alarms started to blare rather loudly, interrupting the doctor.
Ovi looked shocked, as Nigel was. "How this could have happened...?"  However, he suddenly started to grin, which Nigel found unnerving this time for some reason. "Oh, that's right!" Suddenly, the hologram of the skinny, tall scientist, started to change that of a similar man, but, a rotund one, wearing a uniform, similar to a GUN uniform, with a stylized admiral's badge, with the top in the shape of his own rounded head, which round spectacles were perched on.
"I made it happen~" Robotnik finished, the hologram of him now standing in Ovi's place.
Nigel and Chuck both stood there, stunned...Before both Kodos and Naugus both started to break out into laughter.
"You really should have thought it more suspicious, how the armada didn't seem to pop up here until just now, 'My Liege'." Kodos said, growling out those last two, before chuckling. "We've been disabling sensors for Central Acornia, left and right, and, yet, you didn't seem to notice, until now. Not only that, but, for soldiers who knew better, and who were loyal to you instead of us, well- I take it 'Sir Charles' knows about his own robot-making tech~"
Chuck look horrified, and for good reason. Nigel couldn't blame him. He himself thought that they had all roboticizer tech under tight supervision. ...And, yet, it was possible that they had gotten such tech with Ovi's help. He had been so sure that Ovi was a good, honest man, that he wouldn't use the authority Nigel had given him for nefarious ends.
"I bet you didn't even know that Ovi was an android," Robotnik exclaimed, pinching his moustache a bit. "I used him to get into the highest levels of power, and, then, when he was in charge of research, he was directed not to do anything to help you in the slightest, dear King Acorn. We've also been using coded transmissions with each other. And, for the last week, I've been controlling him, using him in the talks, fooling you~"
Naugus cackled. "And, to think we've been able to fool you, all this time~"
"Ah, correction, dear Wally," Robotnik interjected with a chuckle. "I'm the one whose fooled you all~"
Now it seemed like it was Kodos and Naugus turn to be confused and shocked, which they seemed to be.
"Sadly, I no longer need either of you. But, instead of killing you, I'm going to send you, with your king, to a dimension where you will likely not be heard from again."
Kodos, fuming, roared in pure outrage. "You won't get away with this!" He quickly ran over to a nearby window, and opened it. Was he under the impression that he could survive the fall? Didn't matter, apparently, since what was a laser shot hit the outside of the wall, and Kodos withdrew back in.
"Ah, ah, ah, don't even try it. I have Sniper SWATbots surrounding the entire building. But, don't worry, its been tested. And, who knows maybe you'll see the Hedgian queens as well." A dark chuckle from the uniformed figure. "They are the ones I tested it on, after all~"
Finally, Nigel could bare it no longer. Fuming, he pointed a finger right at Robotnik’s hologram. "You scum! You think you can get away with this?! I'll see you imprisoned! There'll be a day when your darkness is finally put out, and, then, you can no longer-!"
However, during this tirade, a giant green beam of energy enveloped the council building, sending it and the ones inside it, somewhere unknown...
--------------
Chuck, who had been in the meeting, quickly exited the workshop's holoroom, and ran over to Tails and Rotor. "We have to leave, now!"
Rotor sighed. "In a minute! Can't you see the turrets need more work?"
"We don't have more time, Rotor! We'll have to do what we can! Ben, Tails, hurry up!"
The two of them nodded, and Rotor grumbled begrudgingly, but all four of them went inside the ship. Once the hangar doors were open, the Starblazer took off, beginning its voyage.

An idea for Endeavor’s quirkless child maybe would be where reader gets the okay from the doctors at the hospital say Rei is stable enough to see reader even though she has red hair now? Or another interaction between Dabi and Reader would be great 👍 love your writings and can’t wait to see what you have planned!💕
This was actually a really good detail to consider, since Reader didn't really dye her hair because of what happened with Rei, but to go as unnoticed as possible in school. But I really enjoyed this, and hopefully so do you guys! 💖

Deep breaths, positive thoughts, don't drop the box.
Deep breaths, positive thoughts, don't drop the box.
Deep breaths, positive thoughts, don't drop the----
"Todo-chan?" The doctor's voice snaps you out of the anxious chanting going off inside your mind. Why were you nervous in the first place when visiting your mother at the hospital became a regular part of your routine?
Oh yeah....Because this was the first time after that incident five years ago that she'd be seeing you with red hair. You know it was completely different from last time, your mother's mental health is stable enough now, she was able to see Shoto without a problem after all....But the memories from that time still terrify you just thinking about it, the idea of going back to square one with her?
"My colleagues and I have talked it over, and I'm more than pleased to say it's alright to go see your mother as well as allow her to keep this gift of yours, based on the description we're positive it may help with her recovery"
There's confidence in each of her words, and that gentle smile of hers helps to ease the anxiety inside the pit of your stomach, a breathe of relief you didn't realize you'd been holding in escapes which send her into a small giggling fit, but she doesn't say anything else and offers to accompany you on the way to your mother's room
"Dr. Chigusa?" She glances in your direction with curiosity, this woman had been one of the people taking care of your mother since the very beginning of her treatment, her kind demeanor had quickly won over every single one of the Todoroki siblings, everyone who's met her knows that had she been there the day of the accident things would have probably gone differently...
The footsteps echoing through pristine halls are equally soothing and distressing, a seemingly endless hall keeps going and going till a certain room is eventually coming into sight.
"Yes dear?" She takes a small glance in your direction and stops walking, the way your hands grip the corners of the box tightly, she can easily perceive the insecurity and fear coming through every inch of your being, body shaking slightly once you observe that spot in the wall right besides the door, that spot where a young girl once sat with her back against the wall suffering in silence.
"...What if it happens again? I don't want to see my Mom going through that all over again"
Worry seeps from every pore in your body, heart pounding loudly against your chest it's a surprise the woman walking beside you doesn't hear a thing, panic surrounds every part of your being just by the memories of that day.
Chigusa grabs your shoulders gently, the moment her quirk activated all those feelings of doubt drifted away like traces of smoke being carried away withing soft currents of air.
"Listen (Y/N), your mother is an incredibly strong woman who's come a long way despite everything she had to endure, I promise you over my medical licence that everything is going to be alright...Do you trust me?"
Confidence radiates from each and every single one of her words, strongly enough to sway the most doubtful of hearts, even without needing to employ her quirk anymore, her eyes shining with assurance accompanied by the warm hold on your shoulders allows you to step forward to face the one thing that separates your mother from the rest of the world.
"If it makes you feel any better, I'll go in first and let her know you're coming, how does that sound?" God really blessed your family when Chigusa came into your mother's life.
She goes inside the room first just like she promised, leaving you in the hall alone with the box. After a few minutes boredom takes over and you start checking out some messages with our friends. Some of them send pictures of study sessions, the girls from Shoto's class are having a spa day at the dorms complete with face masks and cucumber in their eyes, there's also a text from Bakugo and his friends, one that makes your eyelid twitch in mild annoyance.
"I guess we can't call you Omurice head anymore, uh?" They say jokingly after seeing your new profile pic.
"Have you ever seen a hedgehog covered in glitter? Cause I think you will soon" You quickly text them back.
The door opens right after you send the message and Chigusa comes out with a big smile on her face.
"You can come in now Y/N, I'll give you two some space, but remember everything...?" She goes quiet, waiting for an answer as you inhale deeply before finishing her sentence.
"Is going to be alright"
"Good!" Then she leaves, not without sending another smile in your direction.
Turning back towards the door and staring for another few seconds you take another deep breath...and finally your hands push the door open. Sunlight illuminates the whole bedroom with beautiful shades of golden light...and right in front of the window your mother's sitting with her back facing the door.
"Here goes nothing..."
"Hi Mom"
Your eyes close in panic, a part of you expecting to hear the screams all over again just like that one time carved into your memories, instead the only thing perceived is silence, slowly looking back at her most serene look is adorning her features, confusion slowly morphing into that kind smile which had only been seen a couple of times when you were less than 6 years old.
"Y/N" The smile never left her face, not even when she took a good look and finally caught sight of the one thing that terrified you in the first place, despite that she didn't stop smiling.
"It's been a while since the last time you visited, is everything okay?"
Not only did it not affect her anymore but this time she paid no mind to it, making a wave of relief flow through your body, she noticed the way your shoulders began trembling.
"Yeah..." your hand wipes away a single tear threatening to come out, mouth curving into a tiny smile before looking back at her "Everything's alright..."
That's how part of the visit went, catching up with her after being unable to visit her for the past three weeks, the answer she got was half true to avoid scaring her.
After all being kidnapped by a psychopath and thrown off a building wasn't the best way to start a conversation, right? So all she was told was how busy you had been with classes, along with this new project.
Speaking of project...
"By the way Mom" You get up from the bed to get the box you had left in the small table "I asked the doctors if I could bring you this, is something I've been working on for a while now, and some senior students from school helped me out with it"
Rei gave it a curious glance, specially when you placed the box down on the floor and pulled out a smaller baby blue metallic box with no cover, inside the box there's this white ball that looks like plastic with a few black and brown spots.
"What is it?"
You smiled at her before pressing a small button on the edge of the box, the actions makes it let out a charging noise and the small ball slowly starts to inflate until its peaking out of the top.
Rei's eyes go wide when it starts taking the shape of a mix between a Japanese bob tail cat and a marshmallow, but the surprise is not over yet once the noise finally dies down and the "cat" slowly opens its metallic black eyes and starts looking around from left to right, once it catches sight of her the small thing carefully climbs out of the box like a small kitten.
"Fuyumi told me how much you love cats, and since it's not possible to have pets in here I talked about this project with the staff" The "cat" turns to look at you with curiosity, and when it gets a nod in response the first thing it does is dart straight towards your mother to nudge her feet. Surprising her by how soft its body feels.
"I heard having a pet around can be therapeutic, so It's programmed to behave like a domestic cat and keep you company"
While you explained its function the cat was already being cradled in your mother's arms, purring softly with every stroke of her fingers on its chin, the excitement on her face couldn't be more obvious once it bopped its face against her hand, demanding more of her attention just like a real cat would.
"Do you like it?" It was obvious she loves the little guy, but you still wanted to hear her answer with eagerness.
"I love it, does he have a name?" she asks happily, but you shake your head no.
"Not really, I wanted you to name it since well, it's your new pet now"
That's all she needed to hear.
"Thank you Y/N" She hugged the cat closer to her "Thank you so much"
In the end the last thing you tell her are the instructions, how the box is actually its charging station and it needs to be re-charged every now and then, and just in case something malfunctioned the staff had a small instructions manual and your number, in case it needed any repairs.
That afternoon you left her room with a bright smile and the ghost that haunted your memories finally gone, this time for good.
Nothing could ruin that moment for you while going back to the dorms with a bounce on your feet...Not even when you ran into someone and nearly fell on the floor had it not been for this mysterious person catching you by the wrist.
"I'm really sorry about that! I should have been more careful!" your voice comes out in a nervous squeak, face full of embarassment while this guy just kept staring at you, a black hoodie covering his head and even with the sunglasses he sported the feeling of his eyes staring at you was easily noticeable.
"It's fine, just be more careful next time, you never know who you might run into" The calmness in his voice made you glad he wasn't pissed off by crashing straight into them, but before any more words could be exchanged the characteristic sound of your ringtone went off.
"I need to pick this call, sorry about that again, see you!" Fishing the phone out from the bottom of your pockets the last thing he saw was a small wave aimed towards him before you ran off, this time paying attention to the surroundings while answering the call.
"See you soon...Firefly"

Can I have a fanfic about sonic going to school?
Oh this one is cute! Due to him being confirmed to be 13 to 14 in the film, I’ll have him start in 6th grade for this prompt.
But we're gonna change it up a little...you'll see what I mean.
I apologize in advance to anyone i caused to cry while reading this, because I did while writing this.
Being small is way past cool.
Tumblr media
=======
“Sonic!”
The hedgehog flinched at Tom’s loud voice cutting through the closed ladder door. “Sonic! Are you up yet?”
Groaning, he borrows deeper in his blanket and puts his pillow over his head.
‘God 6 is seriously too early to wake up on a Tuesday.’
Hearing the ladder door slide open, he kept still and held his breath as he heard heavy footsteps come into his room.
“Sonic?” He came closer to the bed, shaking Sonic’s shoulder.
“C’mon bud, you gotta get up now.”
“Nooo” his voice muffled underneath the pillow.
Tom rolled his eyes, whipping back the bed sheets off him.
Feeling the sudden cool air, his body tensed up and glared up at the human.
“Uh-uh Don’t look at me like that, you know you got to wake up now.”
Sonic closed his eyes, curled up his body and rolled over, his back facing Tom.
Tom let out a deep sigh. “Ok then.” he walks away and heads down the stairs.
'Maybe at this rate he'll let me stay home this time.' He sighed in relief as he started to go back to sleep.
That didn't last long before he heard Tom's footsteps come back into the room.
'Ugh spoke too soon.'
Hearing his steps get closer, he felt Tom’s hand wrap around his shoulder, pulling him up in a sitting position.
The hedgehog groaned and let his head fall forward.
‘I’m still not getting up, why is he trying so-AAAAH!’
Sonic let out a scream as he felt a rush of cold mask around his face.
Tom, with a washcloth soaked with cold water, rubbed the cloth around Sonic’s eyes and face. “You should have got up when I told you.”
Swatting his hands away, he rubbed his eyes, now miraculously feeling more awake.
“Wha- What was that?”
“An old trick my mom used on me when I wouldn’t get up, just take a washcloth, soak it in cold water and wipe your face with it.” He grinned as he twirled the cloth around. “Could never really escape from it.”
“Hpmh, you must’ve been a stubborn kid.”
“It worked on you too so you’re not off the hook either.” he flicked the cloth on top of his head. "Now please get yourself ready, I'm not telling you again."
"Fine." He huffed, moving the damp cloth off head and stretched as Tom walked back downstairs.
'He sounds serious this time, maybe he has to work a extra shift again.'
"Well I guess I have to get serious too." Using his speed, he made his bed and grabbed his toothbrush, zipping to the bathroom to get washed up.
Tom heard him zipping upstairs as he sat down at the table, letting out a deep sigh,
Maddie walked over to him, holding two cups of coffee. “Everything ok up there?”
“Teenagers.” He said bluntly as he took his cup from Maddie. “I always thought we got lucky from skipping the terrible two’s or that awkward preteen stage, but this-.”
He stopped to take a long sip from his mug. “I wonder how our parents felt when we went through this.”
“Tom, it’s probably because it’s the end of the first week of school for him and he doesn’t want to go due to how often he’s been home.”
"So he's becoming stagnant basically?"
"In a matter of speaking, yes."
"Oh god, he's becoming a basement baby."
"Pfft, that only counts once they're 18 and over Tom."
"Don't be so sure of that, he already lives in our attic. So he's kinda like a...attic toddler."
Maddie nearly dropped her plate from stifling her snorts of laughter, passing Tom his plate. "Yeah ok, don't him hear you call him that."
"Please with all the names he calls us, we should at least get to call him something." He huffed as he cut into his eggs.
"I thought he did have one? The Blue Devil?"
"Nope, it's Attic Toddler now." He waved his hand, mouth partially full.
Maddie let out a hum as she ate her eggs. "Hmm I don't think he likes that too much."
"Why'd you say-?"
"ATTIC TODDLER?!?"
Tom let out a yell and jumped nearly a foot into the air as he heard Sonic's voice shrill right behind him. Ozzie barked in response to his yell, only for Maddie to call him over and calm him down.
Grabbing his chest, Tom panted as he looked at the hedgehog, who was wearing a small red shirt with a picture Saturn on it, looking very offended.
"Dude! You know better than to sneak up behind people and scream like that!"
Ignoring Tom's remark, he carried on sounding more agitated. "'Attic toddler'? C'mon Tom I'm not that short!"
Catching his breath, he turned around in his chair to fully face him, slightly smiling. "I mean can you blame me, you're about the size of a toddler."
Sonic tightens his fists, cheeks blushes slightly. "NO I'M NOT!!"
His eyes flash blue for a split second and small sparks erupts from his quills as he panted from his outburst.
Ozzie whimpered and cowered underneath the table. Tom eyes widen while Maddie let out a gasp at the hedgehog's sudden outburst.
Tom was the first to break the dead silence. "Sonic?"
Still panting, he blinked before looking shocked and shaking his head, sparks disappearing and his eyes going back to emerald green.
"I....uh...I." he fiddled with his hands, looking down at the floor and taking a few steps back from the couple.
Tom went to stand up, Sonic backed away even more. “Hey-.”
“I’m sorry.” He murmured quickly before speeding up to his room, shutting the door behind him.
“Soni-.” He voice got cut off at the sound of the door closing.
Gripping his chair, he put his weight against the back, looking where Sonic disappeared.
“Tom?” He turned around to see his wife, both hands on the table as she looked at him, her face hardened. “What in the world was that?”
Choking on his words, he sat back down and leaned on the table, letting out a hard breath.
“I have no idea Mads.” Ozzie came out slowly from the table and approached Tom, putting his head on his knee.
He scratched his head in response. “I’ve never seen him like....that before, last time I saw him like this was months ago when he was fighting Robotnik.”
Maddie folded her hands and put them against her mouth. “I know and he’s never yelled in that way either." After a short pause she glances up.
"Do you think something happened at the school?"
"Hmm possibly, we haven't got any calls from them yet."
She reached across the table and grabbed his hand. "Oh Tom, do you think he may be getting picked on?"
He opened his mouth to speak only to close it, thinking about what she said. 'I mean it's not far fetched that he actually could be, it's pretty common around this age group.'
"Middle school kids can be pretty brutal, man it's only the first week for him too."
"He got pretty upset at the comment you made, maybe it something related to that."
"Yeah he did...." drumming his fingers against the table before snapping his fingers. "I got something."
"Yeah? What is it?"
"I'm gonna just take a page out of my dad's book for once, hopefully it works for him like it did for me".
=======
'Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!' He screamed mentally as paced around his room, trying to calm down.
"Why did I yell at them like that?!? They didn't know what was going on anyway, now they're definitely going to know that something's up! Way to go Sonic!" He threw his arms up in the air as he sat against his beanbag chair.
Taking a few breaths, he hugged his arms and stared at his feet. 'I...don't know what to do.'
Feeling his eyes sting, he sniffed and blinked away any incoming tears.
Looking up, the clock read 7:05. 'An hour and a half left huh? Maybe I'll take a walk instead of a run today.'
Getting up slowly, he put on his windbreaker and grabbed his backpack. He traced over the stitching of the owl that was sewn on the back before hugging the bag to his chest.
Pushing the ladder down, he slowly made his way to the main steps and pushed the ladder up, his ears picked up the sound of the shower turning on and faint singing coming from it.
'Maddie's still here, I wonder if she's mad at me? And Tom...'
He shook his head as he made his way to the front door, looking over to where Ozzie was laying, the dog's head was between his paws as he saw Sonic pass by.
"See you later Oz" he waved sheepishly at the dog.
Not moving an inch, Ozzie gave a small bark in reply.
He winced at the lack of energy the retriever gave. 'Oh man I guess he's mad at me too.'
He stepped onto the front porch, closing the door behind him. Adjusting his book bag zipping up his coat, he made his way down the stairs, his mind still going.
“Hey!”
The teen jumped and ducked slightly at the sound of a deep voice echoing in the yard. “Raise your hands where I can see them!”
Recognizing the voice, he let out a sigh as he walked towards the truck, the window rolled all the way down revealing that Tom was sitting inside.
Tom leaned his head out, his elbow out the window. “Hey bud.” He said softly.
“Hi.” He murmured, looking down at the ground.
A short pause. “Why so blue?”
Sonic huffed and glared up at the human, who held back a laugh before clearing his throat.
“No seriously though, how you feeling?”
“I’m.....fine.” Deep down he knew that he still wasn’t fine, but he didn’t want Tom to see that.
“Hmm-mmm.” He checked his watch before opening the door on the passenger side. “Well come on.”
“Huh?”
“I don’t have to be at the station until 9 so I’m taking you to school today.”
“O-oh, no that’s ok I was gonna just walk to school.”
Tom looks at him, straight faced.
“Sonic, I’m taking you to school.”
His voice was calm, but carried an eerie tone to it. As if saying, “you definitely have no other choice in the matter.”
Squirming under his gaze, he holds up his hands in surrender. “Ok whatever you say.”
He sighs as he makes his way into the passenger seat, closing the car door, putting his bag on the floor and folding his arms as he sat.
Putting the car in reverse, Tom backed the car out of the driveway.
“Put on your seatbelt.” He without looking back.
Sonic takes the seatbelt and straps it behind him rather than around him and clicks it in.
"Fasten it around your body please". He says, still not looking back.
Shocked, he complies while staring at him. ‘How does he do that? I swear grown ups have eyes in the back of their heads.’
=======
Tom continued to drive at a steady pace, one hand on the steering wheel, the other out the window.
Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Sonic looking out the window at the passing trees, face in his palm and face sullen.
Clearing his throat, his decides to break the silence. “So do you want to talk about it?”
“About what?”
“That big elephant you left in the room.”
“Elephant? There was no elephant anywhere.”
“No-what I mean is that something is obviously bothering you and it’s starting to worry me and Maddie.”
He clutched the strap of the seatbelt. “Nothing’s bothering me.”
“Really? Cause the way you acted back there says otherwise.”
“I just-, I just didn’t like the way you called me a toddler that’s all.” He squeezes the belt tighter.
“If you didn’t like that I called you a toddler, you would have just told me that instead of yelling at me like that.”
"I didn't mean to yell, it just came out that way."
"Then why are you upset that I called you that?"
Sonic just shrugged his shoulders while giving a noise that sounded like "I don't know".
"Yes you do, you just don't upset like that for no reason."
Sonic stayed silent, hugging himself and closed his eyes, kneeling his head against the door.
Tom sighed in defeat, putting his eyes back on the road. 'It must be tough on him if he just won't say it to me.'
Seeing the exit ramp towards the school come into view, he increased his speed and drove right past it.
Sonic snapped out of it and watched as they went past the ramp.
"I figure we take the long way around, since we have the time." Tom answered, sensing the teen's confusion.
Sonic closes his mouth and nods, leaning his back against the seat, his shoulders noticeably loosening up and his face relaxed.
Tom grinned as he drove down the road, passing underneath the trees and by individual houses.
He turned the car onto a wide dirt road and drove up a hill leading to a area surrounded by a small glade of trees.
'Are we at a camping ground?' Looking around, he sees a small number of picnic tables and wooden signs.
"Why are we here?" He asks Tom, who is looking around the area, seemingly looking for something.
"Change of scenery, Ah there it is!" Tom exclaimed as he pulls into a space and puts the car in park.
Looking over the dashboard, he sees a metal guard rail bordering where the flat ground ends and an open view of the sky and trees down below, clear of any trees from blocking it.
Tom gets out and stretches his arms, breathing out a loud sigh before walking away from the car.
Sonic gets out slowly and closes the door. He walks over to the guard rail, backing up slightly at the steep drop beyond it.
It was a rather quiet place, only hearing woodpeckers and birds chirping in the distance and the sounds of the pine needles crunching under his shoes.
He turned around as he heard Tom grunting and saw him climbing up on the hood of the car and putting his back against the windshield, his feet dangling in front of the muffler.
Seeing Sonic stare at him, he patted the spot on the hood next to him.
He sped over on top of the hood and sat down next to the human, crossing his legs.
The two sat in silence for a bit before Tom spoke. "You're probably still wondering why I took you here right before school."
"Yeah I still am actually."
Tom chuckled. "Well this place is pretty special to me. Me and Maddie would take walks up here when we got engaged, take Ozzie on walks, even have some barbecue parties with some of the neighbors." He paused before mouth became tight.
"This is also the same place my dad took me when I was about your age.
Sonic let out a small gasp and raising his head up. "Really?"
"Yeah, it was actually for the same reason you're going through right now. Middle school was getting rough for me and my parents knew right away that something was wrong." He smiled at the distant memory before continuing.
"So one random day he came up to my room and told me that he was driving me to school, I didn't think much of it so I went along with it."
"Then he drives up into these woods and pulls up in the same spot that we're in right now."
Sonic eyes widened as he leaned in with interest.
"We both sat on the hood of his old pickup and just stared at the sun rising, it made me feel...calm and relaxed, So much so I was able to him what was going on."
"What'd you tell him?"
"About how the kids were teasing me, calling me names behind the teachers back and no one wanted to be around me because I was the sheriff's son."
"And I'll never forget what he said to me, he said "Thomas, those kids are just jealous because they wish their fathers were as cool and handsome just like I am."" Tom said as he tried to imitate his father's voice, making Sonic giggle at the rough impression.
Letting out a laugh as well, he smiled before talking in his regular voice. "But what he also told me was "They think because of what family you were born into, you'll turn out just like them, good or bad. It's up to you to show them that you are unique in both mind and soul and eventually prove them wrong, you got what it takes, son.""
Tom beams as he finishes the story, looking down Sonic, who eyes were starting to water.
"Oh, hey buddy you ok?" He spoke softly as he puts a hand on Sonic's shoulder, who nods his head as he wipes away incoming tears.
"*sniff* Yeah I'm fi-." He stops realizing what he's about to say. 'No you're not.'
"No I'm not fine actually."
Hand still on his shoulder, he pulls him in closer. "Go ahead, I'm listening."
He took a deep breath before speaking. "Some of the kids at school have been....making fun of my height."
Tom stiffens up but listens as Sonic continues. "On the first day, it was kinda like a joke, the fact that I'm in 6th grade and I look like I should be in 1st grade. I didn't think much of it."
His fists resting on his knees clench up. "Then this one group of kids in my PE class, they really went at it and wouldn't stop. They didn't do things like push me in a locker or beat me up or anything because of my speed, but the things they said...." He stops as he feels his throat go tight.
"What things did they say to you?" He kept his voice steady.
His voice cracks. "They said that my speed was the reason my parents didn't want me anymore, my height was not normal for my age and then yesterday they told me that it was only reason I was taken in by the sheriff was because I'm "an abomination that no one else wanted and that he could use me for hunting practice". He finishes as his voice cuts off and a few tears run down his face.
Tom uses his thumb to wipe the tears from his face as he pulls him closer. Sonic lets out a small sob as he wraps his arms around Tom's waist and cries softly into his chest, with Tom holding a hand behind his head and back.
The two sit on the hood of the truck as Sonic quiet sobs fill the air with Tom rubbing his back and whispering words of comfort.
After a few minutes, Sonic pulls away from the embrace hiccuping slightly, wiping his eyes and sniffing loudly.
Tom pulls out a tissue while continuing to rub his back. "Here, blow your nose."
Sonic wipes his eyes before blowing his nose hard. He leans back against Tom's side, trying to control his breathing.
"Sonic, why didn't you say anything to us if those kids were picking so much?
He shook his head. "I didn't want to guys to worry about it, I thought if I just tough it out it would be fine."
"Is that why you yelled like that?" Seeing him nod his head slowly, he let out a deep sigh.
"Ok we got to agree on some things, first thing is next time something like this happens, please let us know right away, it's not good to hold in emotions like that."
He nods in agreement. 'Oh trust me I know.'
"Two, please don't raise your voice like that at us again. You're lucky I was taking you, Maddie wasn't too happy that you did that."
"O-ok, I think Ozzie was mad at me too."
"You probably just scared him a little."
"And three, don't let people like that get to you, they never know the full story of your life unless they are apart of it."
"Oh yeah, they don't." He wipes eyes again with his palm.
"Hey, they might even be jealous at the fact that your living with a sheriff that's so devilishly handsome." He clutches his chin and raises his eyebrows.
Sonic let out a wet laugh, pushing Tom's shoulder. "Pfft I know that's definitely not it."
"Wha- how dare you, I'm eligible to be on the Bachelor!" He let out a fake gasp as he poked Sonic in the sides.
The hedgehog shrieked as he shielded away, swatting away his hand.
Tom shook his head as he checked his watch.
"Whoa, it's 8:15 already? We better get going." He grunted as got off the hood.
"Oh right, school." Sonic said solemnly as he looked out at the view, the sun near the top of the trees. 'I kinda don't want to leave now.'
"Hey Tom? Is it ok if we come back here again?"
"Yeah that's a good idea, we can come back during the weekend."
"Sweet". He zipped into car and buckled his seatbelt.
"Oh yeah, you forgot something at home." Tom reached into his duffle bag and pulled out a small lunch box.
"Oh my god thank you! I didn't realize I left it." He hugged the bag to his chest before putting it on the floor.
"Been there before and trust me it's not fun. Oh and make sure you eat this before we get there." He tossed Sonic a banana from his bag.
The hedgehog looked down at the fruit in confusion. "Uhh why are you giving a banana? I already have my lunch."
"You didn't eat breakfast." He replies bluntly.
Right at that moment, his stomach lets out an audible growl. He blushes as he opens it and starts taking small bites.
'Can read him like a book.'
=======
The truck pulled up in front of the school, the students gathering from all over, from walking to being dropped off.
Tom put the car in park as he looked up at building then to Sonic, who was still looking out the window, face filled with uncertainty.
"Hey." He tapped his shoulder to get his attention. "Remember what I said, don't let those kids get to you."
"Yeah, I know."
"Good, cause I'm saying this not only as your friend, but also as your guardian, your size can be your greatest strength, other than that blue sparky thing you do sometimes."
His eyes widened at the word "guardian" before beaming widely, his tail wagging. "Really?"
"Yeah, do you know how many people's knees you can kick at your height?"
"Oh no I meant what you-......uh nevermind." He grabbed his bag and lunch box and went to open the door, before turning around and wrapping his arms around Tom's neck.
Startled, Tom froze at the sudden action before hugging him back.
"Thank you." He leaned back to look at Tom, smiling widely.
"Anytime, bud" he said warmly as he rubbed the teen's ears.
He drew back from the hug, jumped down from the seat and shut the car door.
"I'll see you later, Tom!" He yelled behind his back as he rushed towards the building, stopping to talk to 2 boys, giving them high fives before walking in with them.
"See you later...son."

♡♡♡
If you've ever had amnesia, you'd know that things seem very quick.
Little flashbacks of what you're guessing to be your backstory come back in little spurts that never last long enough and are gone too soon. They leave huge, gaping holes in your background information from what your favorite color is to who your parents were. Try your story on for size.
You were Y/n Wachowski. A sassy, quick-witted teenage girl with a love for speed and a sharp tongue. Parents? Unknown. Distant relatives? Undiscovered. Hometown? Who the fuck knows. You were sent to live with the Wachowski's as your permanent foster parents after you were discovered wandering around the woods by a couple of hikers. They said that they found you wearing a ripped and dirty jumpsuit with pastel colors that looked like it was ten times smaller than your size. When they had tried to confront you, it was almost as if you couldn't hear them, your mouth open and unspeaking. Eyes wandering, glossy and unseeing.
You couldn't remember much about your past. Most of the time it was like looking at a blank sheet of paper, ready to get into the printer but it's out of ink. After being diagnosed with a concussion and severe amnesia, you were seen as unfit to take care of yourself, so that was how you ended up with the Wachowskis. But just because you were lucky enough to have loving and patient foster parents didn't mean that you had an answer to every question they asked. You had no idea what your favorite color was, what you liked to do in your free time, or even if you were a night owl.
It was like you didn't even remember who you were. Like you had just been born, only you weren't a baby and were instead a teenager. It got incredibly lonely being a child with no memories, and the kids at school found you very creepy. But it was okay. Tom and Maddie made sure to give you as much love as was humanly possible, and when the bullying at school got to the point where they would follow you home, they switched you to homeschooling.
It appeared that you not only had no existing memories of your past, but you also had barely any idea how things on earth worked. Whenever someone mentioned examinations, vaccines, bucket lists, and even governmental agencies, you had no clue what they were talking about.
Not everyone was as patient as Tom and Maddie were, unfortunately. Most people would assume that you were kidding when you asked them what a protractor was or why people ride animals. It all seemed so strange and new to you, like Tarzan when he was visiting the human world and not the ape land he was familiar with. But out of it all, there was one thing that you became absolutely fascinated with.
Cars.
The faster, the better. You seemed to have an unchecked need for speed that tickled at your mind every time you got behind the wheel. Whenever Tom allowed it, you'd take the truck or his old squad motorcycle out for a spin in the abandoned corn fields where you could do as many tricks as you wanted without putting anyone else in danger. One of your favorites was driving backwards.
It's during one of those days where our story finally begins. The Montana sun was high up in the sky, beating down its scorching rays onto the untouched pavement. A flock of birds fled for the telephone polls in an attempt to escape from the ever increasing sound of revving coming from the abandoned corn field near Crazy Carl's traps for the supposed "Blue Devil." In the midst of the dead and crusty corn stalks, there sat a young girl on a very old squad motorcycle. Her hair fluttered gently in the slight breeze running through the air, a pair of sunglasses perched delicately atop her nose in the absence of a helmet. Before her stood a makeshift riser composed of some old wooden slabs she had "borrowed" from an old tree house a little ways south. A smirk played across her lips as she kicked up the bike's kickstand and revved the engine.
"Alright, Y/n, if you make this jump, you'll be the most famous girl in Green Hills…" Her words got lost in the wind as she took a deep breath and began to ride towards the jump, her speed increasing with every passing second. The distance began to decrease, her growing closer and closer until an abnormal electric blue blur zipped past her. Startled, she swerved, momentarily losing control of her bike as she slowed to a stop, planting her boots firmly on the ground. Chest heaving, she flipped her sunglasses up onto her forehead and slipped off of the bike, looking around the empty field to see if she hit anything.
What was that? She wondered.
Unbeknownst to her, a couple feet away from her, hidden deep within some dehydrated bushes was a royal blue hedgehog. He had been on his way back to his cave after taking a turtle for a little joy ride down the interstate when he spotted his favorite human on earth, Star Chaser. She was the most amazing girl he had ever seen, and lived with Donut Lord and Pretzel Lady. He would make it a priority to hang out with her every time she was out practicing her racing tricks, a dopey grin spreading on his face every time he saw her ecstatic smile. She just never knew he was there.
More than anything, he wished that he could get to hang out with her just once. Just for one day, spent full of speeding down the empty country roads and flying over makeshift jumps and laughing about the funny faces they made from the wind hitting their skin. But he knew better. He had to stay hidden, just like Longclaw said. Never stop running, and always stay hidden… alone.
There was something about her that just drew him to her, something familiar. He watched with caution as Star Chaser searched the field a bit more, her footfalls making satisfying crunching sounds on the long gone plants. Her beautiful e/c eyes searched the grounds before her for whatever had interrupted her practice. Finally, after she was satisfied with not having hit anything, she got back onto the cycle, flipped her sunglasses back on, and zipped away, leaving a trail of smoky exhaust in her wake.
The blue hedgehog zoomed back to his cave himself, dodging trees and bushes with expertise. The whole time he ran, he couldn't prevent his mind from wondering what life might be like if he were somehow able to live alongside the humans. If he could have a conversation with Star Chaser that didn't exist in his imagination, to maybe even discover why she seemed so familiar. What would life be like if he didn't have to hide?
♡♡♡
Just when things finally start getting familiar, the concept of moving decides to rear its ugly head in. Y/n had found out that her foster dad got a promotion, a job in another city with a higher ranking and a wider variety of donut holes to snack on. That meant that they were going to have to leave Green Hills.
But, knowing her, she shoved the grief and frustration so far down inside her until it became nonexistent. Maddie had left on a trip to see her sister, leaving Y/n and Tom alone. They had had a freak power outage the night before, leaving Tom a bit on edge. His phone kept ringing off the hook as his coworker was just a bit dependent on him, and had no idea if he should just ignore the 911 phone calls or pick them up.
“Remind me to drive by the library tomorrow,” Y/n set down her latest novel on the counter by the car keys. She watched as Tom stole a bit of frosting off of the cake and scrunched up her nose at the lack of sanitation. “I need to return this before we get fined.”
Tom nodded just as his phone began ringing. He held up a finger to his daughter and leaned against the counter, lifting up the phone to his ear as he began to talk to his wife. Y/n turned to the fridge and was trying to decide whether or not she was hungry or just bored as she did her best to not listen to them talking about the move. Just as she was about to reach for the watermelon, a loud clattering noise came from outside. Tom and Y/n exchanged an alarmed glance and quickly shuffled over to the window, childishly trying to shove each other out of the way so they could get a good look.
“Shit,” Y/n swore as she took in the knocked over trash bins sitting next to the garage.
“Watch your potty mouth,” Tom scolded, but a smile still stayed on his lips. “The racoons are back.” Y/n watched as he quickly turned towards one of the junk drawers and pulled out Maddie’s bear tranquilizer gun. She snorted.
“You better not be using my tranquilizer gun,” she heard Maddie’s voice say over the speaker. “That’s for bears.”
“Good,” Tom grinned as he loaded up the machine. “Now I know it’ll work. Y/n, stay inside.” Y/n scoffed as he hung up the phone and opened up the back door. Yes, of course she was going to stay safely inside like a crappy sidekick and miss the potential action of scaring trash pandas half to death. Grabbing an extra flashlight, she raced out after her dad to see him pressed up against the side of the shed, holding the gun and flashlight near his face. He jumped once she saddled up next to him, putting her flashlight in front of her like her own makeshift gun.
“I thought I told you to stay inside,” He narrowed his brows. To his dismay, Y/n only shrugged.
“You did. I didn’t listen,” she grinned, making it obvious that he had no other choice than to let her stay. He sighed, but nevertheless nodded. On a quick countdown from three, the two burst into the shed, waving their flashlights around like mad men.
“Green Hills PD, put your paws up!” Tom hollered. Y/n slowly made her way out from behind him, flashing her light around the empty room until it finally came to a stop. Her eyes widened in shock and her jaw nearly dropped to the floor as she tried to make sense of what exactly she was looking at. An electric blue creature wearing white gloves and tennis shoes stood before them, holding what looked like a gold wedding ring between his forefinger and thumb. She couldn’t tell what was stranger: the fact that he existed or the fact that he seemed oddly familiar. The creature’s green eyes flashed from hers to her father’s before he let out a small, nervous chuckle.
“Uhh, meow?”
Tumblr media
And then, Tom screamed. His fear and the sudden introduction of the loud noise caused Y/n to scream, too, which finally led to the little blue creature screaming. But the longer Y/n stared at it, the more she began to experience a slight hint of deja vu. She couldn’t seem to shake the feeling that she had seen this thing before.
“Wait,” she whispered, barely loud enough for her dad to hear, but the blue creature’s ears perked up. He turned his attention back to her and the second they locked eyes, the same sense of familiarity began coursing through his veins. After all of those days spent watching her from afar, how did he never notice the e/c eyes? Where had he seen them before?
Unfortunately, Tom just had to go and ruin the moment by pulling the trigger on the tranq gun.
“Dad, no!” Y/n cried, but it was already too late as the dart sank into the blue creature’s thigh. They could only watch as the animal looked down at the needle in his leg and slowly looked back up with a hurt glare.
“Ow,” he whined, his eyes already beginning to lose their concentration. Y/n was about to take a step towards the creature, but Tom wrapped his hand around her arm to stop her. The creature’s eyes floated over Tom’s shirt, zeroing in on the words that littered the old fabric. “San… Fran…sisco?” He muttered. The ring he had been holding on to loosely slipped from his fingers, and began rolling across the floor. As its velocity increased, it began expanding, deying all laws of logic as a portal overlooking the given city appeared. Y/n and Tom’s jaws dropped to the floor as they watched the creature stumble, dropping his little bag through the portal and collapsing onto the ground. Y/n’s heart ached for the poor thing as she fought to get out of her father’s grasp in order to help him.
Within seconds, the portal closed up, eliminating the slight wind that had appeared. “N-No…” The creature whimpered before finally passing out. A thick silence crossed over the three as Tom’s grip on Y/n’s arm loosened, both humans trying to figure out what the heck they just witnessed.
“What the actual fuck?” Y/n breathed.
“Language…”
♡♡♡
“Yes. Let’s shoot the poor thing and then put him in a cage,” Y/n rolled her eyes sarcastically, watching as her father poked the blue creature resting inside of their dog’s old cage. She batted at his hand, and gave him a death glare, but he just sighed.
“Come on, kid, what if he’s an alien?” Tom asked incredulously, turning back to the sleeping creature. He nudged its head with a metal spatula and sighed.
“I don’t know…” Y/n sighed, resting her head on her knuckle. I mean, she had to admit he was kind of… cute. The nostalgia that he was causing was just an added complication. There was something about his entire being that seemed eerily familiar to her, but she couldn’t for the life of her figure out why. Tom slowly withdrew something that had fallen onto the padding; an electric blue quill. The two slowly leaned closer to inspect the object, noting the little blue bolts of electricity that whizzed across its surface. It absolutely fascinated Y/n, while Tom seemed a little more apprehensive. He turned away from the cage and set it down on the counter, running a hand over his face.
“This is nuts,” he whispered. Y/n took the opportunity to get a little closer to the being, scanning his body with careful eyes. She debated reaching through the bars to touch him, but before she had a chance to, his eyes slowly popped open. Her eyes widened and she stayed perfectly still as he pushed himself up to a standing position and made his way to open the cage. Her breath catches in her throat as he finally looks up at her and gives her a small, sheepish smile, stumbling out onto the counter top. Even in the given circumstances, the only thing that the girl can think of is how absolutely adorable he is.
...wait, what?
“Star Chaser?” Y/n quickly turned her attention back to the present and furrowed her brows in confusion. Who was Star Chaser? “Donut Lord?” The blue being slurred, holding on to the cage for support. Tom swiveled around at the sound and scoffed.
“So the Blue Devil can talk. You’re not here to abduct us are you?”
“YOU abducted ME,” the Blue Devil replied defensively, pressing his hand against his chest. Y/n rolled her eyes and stepped between the two, looking the being in the eyes.
“I am very sorry for that-”
“Why are you apologizing to it?!” Tom cried, running his hands through his hair incredulously. Y/n just rolled her eyes.
“I told him to just leave you alone. But, if I may ask, who are you and why were you in our shed?” She finished. Tom facepalmed behind her while the Blue Devil did his best to concentrate his fatigue on the beautiful girl standing before him. Gosh, her eyes were pretty…
“I-I needed a safe place, and Donut Lord’s house was the only place I could think of, Star Chaser!”
“Why does he keep calling me Donut Lord?” Tom asked warily, slowly reaching for the tranq gun. Y/n quickly shot him a glare and he let out an annoyed huff. Even though he was her foster father, they acted like siblings with good-hearted and frequent quarrels.
“Because you talk to donuts,” the Blue Devil explained. “And then eat them when they get out of line.” Y/n snorted, trying her best to contain her laughter by pressing the back of her hand to her mouth. She didn’t notice the small smile that formed on the blue hedgehog’s face as Tom shrugged, nodding his head slightly.
“Fair. Why is she Star Chaser?” The Blue Devil got a distant look on his face, a small, thoughtful smile still lingering on his lips.
“I’ve watched her race out in the fields. It’s amazing how fast she can go. Sometimes I wonder if she’s trying to chase the stars out of the sky…” A soft smile slowly formed on your lips at his words. No one had ever talked about you like that before.
The distant look on his face was suddenly replaced by one with worry. His eyes began frantically glancing around the room, Y/n being able to practically see the alarms going off in his head. “Wait, where are my… Why am I still on earth? Oh no, I lost my rings!”
“Rings?” Y/n furrowed her brows in confusion. Just then, a loud rumbling sound came from outside. It had such an impact that it shook the entire house, startling the chimes that Maddie had hung up above the sink. The three looked around in confusion.
“What’s happening? Is this your mothership?” Tom began panicking, walking briskly around the table towards the window. He jabbed an accusing finger at the nervous hedgehog. “I do NOT want my daughter getting probed.”
“Dad, stop,” Y/n sighed, following him towards the window. “You’re the one who abducted him. Can’t you be just a little bit sentimental?”
“Thanks,” the hedgehog muttered just loud enough for Y/n to hear. She stood next to her foster dad at the window and peered out the glass. A giant grey vehicle that had been passing stopped and began backing up towards their driveway.
“What the hell kind of make is that?” Y/n muttered. The Blue Devil was by their side in a second and was peering through the window too. Once he caught sight of the ginormous lab van, he let out a squeak and pulled the white curtains shut.
“They’re after me!”
“Who’s after you?” Y/n questioned in concern. She got pushed behind Tom as he stood protectively in front of her, eyeing the Blue Devil suspiciously.
“And what does that have to do with us?”
“I don’t have time to explain, but you have to help me!” He pleaded. Y/n felt her heart sink for the creature, her instant gut feeling telling her that they had to help him. He was in danger, albeit he was apparently a runaway. Unfortunately, Tom had different ideas as he furiously shook his head.
“No, we don’t!”
“But Dad-”
“Y/n, enough,” Tom ended her protests sternly. He turned back to the blue hedgehog and furrowed his brows, wondering what reason he could possibly have that would need them to help him. “Why should we help you?”
“Well, my legs, which normally would be classified as legal weapons, feel like spaghetti. I need your help, please! It’s life or death.” The Blue Devil’s green eyes pleaded to Tom. Y/n slowly made her way out from behind her dad and glanced down at him. He knew exactly what to say in order to get Tom to help him, didn’t he? It was almost as if he had been there all of those times when Tom was wishing for someone to come to him in their time of need. His facade crumbled and he caved in almost instantly.
“Alright, fine. Y/n, take him up to the attic. I’ll take a look at what’s going on outside.” Tom ordered. Y/n nodded and motioned for the blue hedgehog to follow her. They quickly scampered towards the stairs, and as they began to walk quietly up the flights, Y/n noticed two things. One, Crazy Carl was right after all. The little “Blue Devil” was a lot larger than she had expected him to be, measuring up to be about half of her height. And two, the thing was having a horrific time walking. With a strangely racing heart, Y/n slowed down her pace and offered her hand to the being. He gave her a small smile and accepted it, wrapping his gloved hand around her own.
“My actual name is Y/n, by the way,” she finally spoke in an attempt to break the hurried silence. “But I like Star Chaser better.” He smiled beside her, trying to figure out why the girl before him seemed so familiar.
“I just thought it suited you. My name’s Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog.”
“I knew you weren’t an alien,” Y/n said as she let go of his hand to pull down the ladder. She picked the hedgehog up and set him down gently inside the attic. His name kept ringing throughout her head on an endless loop, like it was supposed to bring back some big part of her life, but it always came back empty. She gave him a small smile and was about to head back down when he stopped her.
“Wait,” his dreamy green eyes were full of concern as he looked straight into Y/n’s. “Be careful.”
Y/n appreciated how genuinely concerned he was for her safety. It was a beautiful gulp of fresh air amidst all of the others who thought she was crazy or weird. At least his sincerity made the fact that he had been basically stalking her and her family for a while now a little bit less creepy. Y/n gave him a reassuring smile and closed the attic door, racing all the way back down to the main floor where she skidded to a halt by the door.
There was Tom, with some very strange looking man sporting a signature Man with the Bowler Hat mustache standing in the Y/n slowly approached her dad and watched as the man turned his attention towards her.
“Oh, I didn’t realize you had a daughter,” the man smiled creepily, sending shivers down her spine. She scrunched her nose as Tom wrapped his arm around her shoulder protectively.
“I have a name,” she raised her brows skeptically. “Y/n.”
At the sound of her name, the man got a shocked look on his face, his eyes widening to the size of saucers as he stared intensely at her. Tom and Y/n exchanged confused glances before the man quickly snapped back into reality.
“Y/n…” he repeated. “Interesting. Anyways, where was I? Oh, yes,” he suddenly propelled himself towards Tom, becoming very uncomfortably close to his face. Y/n slowly sank into her father’s arm in order to back away from the strange man. “I was spitting out formulas while you were still spitting up formula.”
“I was breastfed, actually,” Tom responded, mildly weirded out. Y/n’s face contorted in disgust. What the hell was this conversation?
“Nice,” he nodded. “Rub that in my orphan face.”
“Okay,” Y/n spoke up, finally having enough as she pushed the two apart. “Listen, I have no idea who you are and why you are here, but I think you should be leaving.”
“Ooh, fiesty one,” the man nodded, narrowing his eyebrows at you to the point that the folds on his forehead nearly overlapped one another. “Doctor Robotnik, I-”
A sudden thump sounded from the kitchen, startling the man enough to make him shut up. Tom and Y/n froze, running through every possible excuse in their minds as to what that could have been that wasn’t Sonic. Y/n turned to Robotnik and offered him the best sheepish smile she could muster.
“Um… Racoons?”
Robotnik gave her a fake smile and shouldered his way into the house. Y/n and Tom scrambled to follow him, praying to god that their little blue friend wasn’t sitting on the kitchen counter. Thankfully, once they reached the kitchen, they were greeted with a friendly racoon, shoveling handfuls of celebratory cake into its mouth. Y/n breathed a small sigh of relief through her mouth.
“See? Racoons.” Tom spoke defiantly, placing his hands on his hips. Y/n began to search the room quietly for any sign of Sonic while Robotnik was preparing to leave. They had almost gotten him out the door when he stopped and backtracked. In confusion, Y/n and Tom followed his gaze and their hearts stopped.
He slowly held up the lone electric blue quill for all to see.
“Looks like I was right,” a shit-eating grin formed on his face. “Note the lack of surprise.” He pointed to his monotone expression and Y/n could already tell that she fucking hated him. She slowly began to back away from him when a floating egg shaped orb harnessing a bright red laser became very interested in Tom. Y/n’s heart raced, back growing tense as she began to hesitantly back away until Robotnik gave her a warning glare.
She wasn’t going anywhere.
“So, let’s try this again. Where. Is. It?”
“Look, man, leave her out of this. We have no idea what ‘it’ is,” Tom exclaimed, beginning to hold his hands up in surrender. Robonik simply shook his head and pushed some buttons on the gloves that he was wearing.
“I hate liars. You have five seconds to tell me where it is. Five… Four…” He began to count down, Y/n only being able to watch in horror as the white orb came ever closer to her father, the menacing light flashing. Daring someone to challenge it. Tom stared, his facade crumbling with every second that was counted down, trying desperately to find a way out. Things were looking to death when a sudden electric blue blur shot out from behind the counter and stood in front of Y/n, hands outspread in protection.
“Wait!” Sonic cried. “Don’t hurt them!”
Y/n looked down at the little hedgehog in shock, and was startled when Robotnik let out the most girlish scream anyone had ever heard come from the pipes of a man. Then Tom punched him in the face.
“Yes, go Dad!” Y/n whooped as the Doctor crumpled onto the floor, unconscious. Their victory was short lived, however, as the second she finished talking, she was dragged behind the counter by Sonic to avoid getting hit in the face by a laser beam. The three watched in horror as the Wachowski’s custom designed kitchen became destroyed by the angry red bots, shooting around with no instructions as their master was now taking a nap on the floor. Before Y/n even had the chance to ask what they should do, they noticed that Sonic was already missing. Looking frantically around the room, Tom motioned up to one of the kitchen cupboards, and sure enough, there was Sonic preparing to jump onto one of the bots that was probably scanning for their heat signatures or something equally significant. The two shook their heads rapidly, but Sonic simply gave them one of the most adorable sassy nods Y/n had ever seen. He leapt onto the robot, trying desperately to smack it as it spun around like a horse without a head.
Tumblr media
“This-was a… horrible idea!” Sonic screamed before he got flung off the robot, sailing through the air, and landing straight into Y/n’s arms. He offered her a sheepish smile, and Y/n rolled her eyes, a smile still playing across her lips. She set him down just in time to see her dad knock the bot out with a frying pan. It careened to a halt and collapsed onto the ground.
“Alright,” Y/n nodded, kicking it once with the scuff of her shoe for good measure. “Shall we get out of here?”
“Yes, please.”
♡♡♡
The three runaways were able to pull out of the driveway just as a bunch of other Men in Black vans were pulling up to the house. Tom sat behind the wheel while Sonic sported a shotgun, and Y/n crouched in the middle of the backseat with no seatbelt. Because this was living on the dark side, and on the dark side, we don’t wear seatbelts.
“Okay, so now that we aren’t running from scary doctors, what the hell is going on here?” Y/n asked, leaning forward on the console and resting her head in her hand as she turned to Sonic. He leaned his head back against the seat and sighed.
“Well, I just might have been the reason for that big power explosion… and now people after me. To make things worse, I lost my rings to a place that I’ve only ever seen on your dad’s skin tight T-shirt, and I have to make it to the Mushroom Planet or else I’m putting everyone here in danger.” He finally took in a deep gulp of air after pulling out that whole explanation in one breath. Y/n furrowed her brows in concern.
“Mushroom Planet?” Tom asked, his lips pressing into a firm line.
“You must have lost them in San Francisco,” Y/n said. Suddenly, Tom jerked the wheel to the right and pulled off to the side of the road, unlocking the doors in the process.
“Alright, get out.” Y/n and Sonic stared at him in confusion.
“I’m sorry, what?” Sonic narrowed his eyes slightly. Tom leaned forwards and opened the passenger side door for him, running a hand down his face.
“Look, this is the worst time for me to be getting into trouble with the law and my daughter doesn’t really need a track record. So, you can go off and have good luck with finding your weird little Mushroom Planet. I’ll hopefully wake up in a hospital room soon with a successful colonoscopy and a happy, totally sane teenage daughter, so goodbye.”
“What? Dad!” Y/n started to object, her blood boiling in irritation at his insensitivity. Sonic shook his head and gave her a half-hearted smile as he slipped out of the car.
“It’s okay, Y/n. Goodbye, I guess…” But instead of leaving, he just stood there. Staring. Y/n turns to stare at her father too to double the effect.
“Why aren’t you leaving?” He groaned in frustration.
“How the hell is he supposed to know where San Francisco is?” Y/n laughs, and Tom sighs in defeat, knowing that she’s right. He gives her a half-assed glare, but as usual she was refusing to back down. Sonic doesn’t notice the small smile forming on his own lips, his appreciation for this strangely familiar girl increasing with every second he spent with her.
“It’s West. Straight shot.” Tom finally tells him. Sonic nods.
“Okay. West. Cool. Cool, I’m totally cool with saying goodbye right now,” he exaggerates, swirling his gloved hands around with the hurt clearly evident on his face.
“I’m not,” Y/n grumbles, pressing her cheek against the rough leather of the driver’s seat. Before anyone could say another word, Sonic shot off in the given direction faster than the speed of sound. Y/n’s jaw drops open along with Tom’s as they look down at the spot where he once was.
“H-holy shit,” Y/n stuttered.
“D-did he just-” Tom didn’t even get to finish the sentence before Sonic came back, only this time soaking wet. He was sporting a nice fish on his head and a bunch of seaweed hanging on to his quills, which accented his sarcastic expression perfectly. Y/n tried to stifle her laughter by pouting and turning to her father as he rolled his eyes.
“So, as I crashed into the cold, dark Pacific,” Sonic began, sending a wink in Y/n’s direction. “I noticed a couple things. A, I have no idea where I’m going. B, salt water stings. And C, I shouldn’t even be on this planet right now but I am. Why? Because you shot me.” Sonic’s eyes narrowed.
“I know,” Tom sighed, turning back to the road.
“You shot me!”
“Okay, you don’t need to rub it in,” he sniffed, glancing at Y/n out of the corner of his eye. “She was there too…”
“She didn’t shoot me,” Sonic stood up for her. Y/n gave him a kind smile as he began listing off characteristics on his gloved fingers. “I’m wet, I’m cold, there’s a fish on my head, and clearly I’m not going to be able to do this on my own!” Once he finished, Y/n slowly reached out to him and pushed the fish off his head, watching as it flopped about helplessly on the ground.
“You do owe it to him,” she subtly pressed, leaning back once again in her seat. Tom stayed silent for a moment, staring firmly at the little blue hedgehog for what seemed like forever. Finally he caved and started the ignition once again.
“Fine. Get in.”
“Really?” Sonic and Y/n chimed in hopeful unison. “You’re going to help me?” He shook out his fur at such a high speed that once he finished, it poofed out like a dramaticized afro. Y/n giggled in her seat, not being able to handle how cute it was. Butterflies began to wander around in her stomach.
“I guess it is sort of my fault,” Tom hesitantly admitted.
“Actually, it’s entirely your fault,” Y/n teased. He gave her a playful shove, but snorted nonetheless. Sonic quickly climbed into the car and slammed the door shut behind him.
“Road trip!” He cheered, looking excitedly around the car. Y/n cheered along with him while still trying to shake the eerily feeling of familiarity. Tom shook his head, squeezing the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white.
“What the hell am I doing with my life?”

Sonic Villains: Sweet or Shite? - Part 14: SCOURGE
............
............
......Huh?
Tumblr media
Oh, hello there! My name's Lutrudis, pleased to meet you. Judging from that look of surprise on your face however, it's evident that you weren't looking for ME per say... What's that? You want to know what this is? Right, of course, my apologies.
Well, this is a mini-series belonging to... ahem, my creator, in which he goes into slightly more detail about his thoughts on the villains in Sonic's history, and why he thinks they either work well, or fall flat (or somewhere in-between). Usually he gives his stance on their designs, their personalities, and what they had to show for themselves in the game(s) they featured in. He also stresses that these are just his own personal thoughts, and that whether you agree or disagree, you're free to share your own thoughts and opinions.
Unfortunately, as you may have gathered, it seems he's a bit occupied for today, and is thus unable to do a review... is what I WOULD be saying if he didn't let me cover for him! That's right boys and girls, I'll be filling in for him today, by doing a little review of my own! Please forgive me if I prattle on for extended periods, but I sincerely hope my efforts in assessing the Wrong'un of the Week are of the utmost quality. Truth be told, it's kind of nerve-wracking, but I'm happy to give it my all for you guys. ❤️
So then, let's carry on with the show, shall we? Welcome to a new edition of Sweet or... Sour. Welcome to Sweet or Sour. Yes indeed, heh heh... (Is the creator's language normally this gratuitous? I hope Cream hasn't seen his posts...)
Anyhow, for today's review... well, this is quite interesting. Normally the creator prefers to keep his reviews focused on game-centric villains, but I guess he made an exception with this one. Today, we'll be directing our attention to a notorious copycat of our blue hero in the Archie continuity, and legendary connoisseur of 70's fashion: Scourge the Hedgehog.
Tumblr media
The Gist: Once upon a time, in the land of comics, there was a world known by all as Mobius. But there was also a parallel dimension called Anti-Mobius, or as it would later become known as, Moebius... one E makes all the difference, apparently. Anyway, in this dimension, everyone and everything that existed in Mobius had an identical equivalent in Anti-Mobius, but things operated a bit differently, in the sense that they were largely the opposite of what we were familiar with.
Putting aside the rather disturbing implication that this world might not have had any real will or independence if it existed purely to do the opposite of what Mobius did, this meant that it had a Sonic the Hedgehog of its very own, as well as a father to that Sonic. Sadly though, this Sonic's father was not that kind to him. In fact, he was said to be a rather poor excuse for a father, as evidenced by how he didn't give his son enough attention, and... oh, that's it.
How awful.
Tumblr media
I'd say his choice of attire is the real crime presented here.
Anti-Mobius in its original form experienced a period of Great Peace, but alas, it was not to last. It soon became a shadow of its former glory, which seemed prophetic in hindsight, as it was by this time that this world's Sonic the Hedgehog - Evil Sonic - murdered his own father in cold blood, and then threw his world's incarnation of King Maximilian Acorn into the Zone of Silence. He quickly became a dictator to the people of Anti-Mobius, with his only immediate opposition coming in the form of the kindhearted counterpart to Dr. Ivo Robotnik... or should that be Dr. Julian Robotnik, in this continuity...? Hmm, I suppose it doesn't matter anymore...
Naturally, the laws of the universe saw fit to correct this wrong. Just as water is wet, and fire is hot, Sonic gives evildoers a right kicking. And lo and behold, our magnificent hero did eventually meet his evil duplicate. The two were evenly matched in speed, but the good-natured Sonic triumphed regardless, possibly because he had more wittiness on his person.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Quality banter.
Evil Sonic later brought along the rest of his gang to aid him, who predictably mirrored Sonic's own band of Freedom Fighters. They were just as much of a match for our heroes, which is a polite way of saying they weren't. You really shouldn't expect anything exquisite when they looked like this.
Tumblr media
Maybe you should call your group something else then...
These parlor games went on for a while, with the status quo never truly changing. But then, after one final showdown with Sonic, the evil Robotnik of Mobius kicked the bucket, which among other things, inspired ANOTHER Robotnik to fill the void. This Robo-Robotnik took Evil Sonic along with him to commit many acts of dastardly intent, an act of generosity that proved to be tragically undermined by Evil Sonic getting caught and trapped by different people time and time again, to the point where even his old gang had long replaced him with a new leader. He did go on to escape the grasp of one Zonic the Zone Cop... only to later get arrested again by the same guy. So far, so adorably incompetent, right?
Still, he did bust out once more, and he proceeded to turn the overall universe into a glorified soap drama by pulling the moves on numerous ladies in Mobius, which in true Evil Sonic style, achieved precisely nothing of merit. Even after he briefly teamed up with Rouge the Bat, his luck persisted in not manifesting. But things were about to get even worse... for us. On a meta level, if you know what I mean.
After one final botched attempt at pointless thievery, with the Master Emerald being the prime target in this particular case, Evil Sonic's attempt to gain himself a super form was halted midway with great force by none other than Locke, the notorious father and attempted microwave murderer of Knuckles the Echidna. Rather than kill him however, all this did was change his fur to green, and leave him with some hardcore scars.
He promptly renamed himself Scourge. Because he's a real SCOURGE to good ideas, har har.
Tumblr media
New kid in town, do not steal.
With his first act of villainy as a new man tattering to pieces due to foolishly invoking the wrath of Shadow the Hedgehog, he soon crossed paths with Dr. Finitevus, an albino echidna who otherwise looked exactly like Knuckles (good heavens, how many of these can one muster?), and spent some time on his side by aiding a new gang of lovely gentlemen called the Destructix. Together, these functioning psychopaths committed more mindless evil.
He also managed to swoon over Fiona Fox to his side, a miraculous modicum of success considering you need some sort of charm to be able to do that, of which Scourge has shown nil. I'm hardly an expert on dishing out romantic advice, but I'm willing to bet there's plenty of superior fish in the sea, Fiona...
Tumblr media
How about “Oh my god, did I seriously die to THESE losers?”
Eventually, Scourge and Fiona broke away from Finitevus' allegiance after the deadly and boring Enerjak was unleashed on Mobius. He returned to Anti-Mobius, and it turned out that any repairs made since the last time he was king didn't amount to anything substantial, because he went and conquered the entire land all over again. Rechristening his old gang as the Suppression Squad, he continued Being Evil™ some more, until the aforementioned Suppression Squad betrayed him for constantly being abhorrent to them, which led to him being stuck with Rosy the Rascal for a while, yet another shameful derivative of a close friend.
In his last days, at long last, he finally achieved a super form with the power of an Anarchy Beryl... only to get soundly thrashed once again, get thrown in prison, and then just when it seemed he'd be back in business, he got wiped out by the Genesis Wave. Tch, Mondays, am I right?
As you can tell from my words alone, let alone in an extremely abridged format, he did a fair amount over the years... and yet at the same time, when you really think about it, he ultimately did so very little.
Oh, and there was also a Metal Scourge at one point. I'm aware that the man who made him has never been all there in the head, but I still find myself questioning why he saw fit to go through with this nonsense.
Tumblr media
I shouldn't need to say this, but that's a disgrace to the hostile Eggman robot that I know and detest.
The Design: Well, he started off as a Sonic, so it's to be expected that he'd look exactly like the lovable goof. Since this was ~Evil~ Sonic though, he was determined to remind us at all times that Grease was in fact the word.
Tumblr media
~You're the one I don't want, you're not the one for, no-ho-ho, honey~
Then he turned green, and... yeah, he turned green. All I can say, really.
Tumblr media
Please excuse me, I'm utterly beside myself with amazement.
It doesn't quite strike the imaginative chords, needless to say. And neither does his super state, which... I'm sorry, it's not normally my cup of tea to chide others for their appearance, but just look at this tripe for a moment.
Tumblr media
No, I don't think I will.
When you combine his already ridiculous self with black eyes and a tiara... what exactly is the intent here? Am I supposed to be intimidated by this display?
Keep this between us if you can, but personally, I'm more intimidated by staircases than I am by this fiend.
The Personality: You would think that since a Sonic is a Sonic, Scourge would share a lot of his personality with our Sonic. And that is true... in the most superficial sense possible.
Sure, he's jovial, cocky, and prone to moments of overconfidence, which is enough to sound very familiar to us on paper. Beyond that however, that's all they really have in common beside their appearance. In every other category, you could argue that Scourge is the exact opposite of Sonic.
For instance, whereas Sonic is supremely loyal to his friends (trust me, I’m grateful to know!), Scourge treats his gang like fetid garbage, and that's when he's not outright abandoning them, neglecting them, and putting them in danger. Likewise, whereas Sonic is a blue bundle of bravery no matter the odds, Scourge is a poor little chicken when the going gets tough, despite all his ramblings about being Sonic's full potential.
This means that for all the acclaim he receives as Sonic's evil doppelganger... he shares very few similarities with who he's replicating. He's barely any different from all the other ruffians that Sonic faces, so what point is there to him being a Sonic at all? If he had a different name and design entirely, what would honestly be lost in translation?
But then, maybe he would just become Mephiles the Dark instead.
Or Mimic the Octopus instead.
Or Eggman Nega instead.
Or Ken Penders instead.
Or... sheesh, they all kind of blend together after a while, don’t they?
The Execution: If my general tone has thus far not been enough of an obvious indication, I do not rank Scourge with any particular favouritism when it comes to Sonic's rogue gallery.
Mind you, ANYONE who threatens our world and tries to kill my friends is nothing but rancid at their core, and as long as they remain unrepentant, I would never support any of them. Asking me which dangerous maniac is “the best” is like asking me which sewage stinks the least, after all. But even I can understand that there's a right way to do bad, and a wrong way to do bad. Scourge, Evil Sonic, whatever you wish to call him, falls squarely into the latter category.
Tumblr media
How I'd love to shove an arrow up His Majesty's rear end.
First of all, his motivations were poorly structured, and that's putting it tactfully. Most of the time, we're led to assume that he does evil for no other reason than because it's evil, so we're already not looking at masterpiece material. But as it turns out, as I mentioned way earlier on, he grew resentful of his father for not giving him as much attention as he felt he deserved.
So when he killed his dear old dad, and went on to do everything else to bitterly stick it to his dad's memory, we're supposed to... sympathise...? Understand his point of view, perhaps...?
Well, I dare say I'll be sticking my nose up to THAT presumption, because there is no pathos to be had here. None at all. It's just a selfish brat becoming a violent and murderous selfish brat, and nothing more. By doing everything for evil's sake, intertwined with this sorry excuse of a tragic backstory, it's as if he's trying to have the best of both villainous worlds, without understanding what makes either of them work.
Secondly, for what little success that Scourge actually had to his name, few of them were by his own hand so to speak. As much as it pains me to give Dr. Eggman even a veneer of kudos, it does require mentioning that for all of the doctor's contemptible attributes, he truly is single-handedly responsible for a great majority of his own... achievements, if you wish to call them such. By contrast, this stinker rarely worked for his moments, instead often relying solely on others to get anything done efficiently, whether it be Fiona, Finitevus, his gangs, or the Anarchy Beryl. Without them, Scourge was always nothing.
Thirdly, as mentioned, he failed to fulfill even the basic concept of what Sonic would be like if he became evil, since he has virtually nothing in common with the hero he's trying so desperately to present himself as the corrupted counterpart to. While I'd obviously prefer not to entertain the mere notion of an evil Sonic anyways, since I know deep in my heart that he would never go down that path, I know him well enough to reasonably assume that even if he did lose his way, he would still be recognisable in some capacity, since there are countless aspects to his personality that remain so... inherent to how his mind operates.
I guess what I'm saying is that if an evil Sonic came to be, he would exist as a darker mirror of how Sonic actually is, and not... something that is not at all like Sonic beyond the physical.
Tumblr media
What's the matter? Not used to a horse seeing you for what you really are?
Finally, remember when I said he was considerably more cowardly than Sonic? I wasn't simply referring to life or death battles and similar heat of the moment situations. Even when the scenario is of lower intensity, when the odds are completely in his favor at that, Scourge proves himself to be what Sonic isn't. Remember when he broke into the house of Sonic's father, with the intent to intimidate and kill said father... only to be scolded into submission by him? We're expected to believe this guy is a big baddie who ranks high in threat level, yet getting a telling off is sufficient enough to shoo him away?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If only Eggman was this easy to deal with...
Now granted, it's to my understanding that all of Scourge's failings are occasionally explained as him being a parody character. But, and correct me if I'm wrong here... aren't parodies supposed to be, you know, parodic, even if done subtly? As opposed to being played completely straight with no trace of irony, which is exactly how Scourge was portrayed throughout the entire duration of the comic's run, with no exceptions whatsoever?
Despite how often the comic insisted otherwise, and despite how often he received it, Scourge was not a villain who warranted importance. He was not a master planner, or a legendary conquerer, or a malevolent force of nature. He was bottom of the barrel, a wannabe at best, who thought he was made for bigger stripes, but remained little more than a walking pile of fresh manure, with nothing to show for it till the very end. His credibility was often alluded to, and handed to him, but never in any stretch was it properly earned. A punk who occasionally got lucky is hardly worth the rank of arch-fiend, in my humble opinion. He was a disgrace who simply had the luxury of wearing Sonic's skin to mask his shortcomings, and I can’t say I’m crestfallen to see him go.
And quite frankly, anyone who impersonates Sonic in the first place reeks to high heaven anyway. To think this trash heap thought he could ever compare in the slightest to my darling... Oh goodness, did I say that out loud?
Lutrudis Gives Scourge a: Thumbs Down!

You know, real thoughts about the Sonic movie (no spoilers)
When I stood there, with the cinema ticket in my hand, the words "Sonic the Hedgeh" clearly printed on them, it finally became real for me.
There was really a Sonic movie.
Hollywood, in all it's blusters and major projects and massive cultural influence had finally decided to make an entire production focused on the Blue Devil.
You know, for all we criticise it, Hollywood is a big thing, and having a movie made out of something is a massive sign of validation.
Yet for years and decades, anything video game related was mostly either ignored or treated with callousness or contempt.
But here now, people were making a Sonic movie, and were finally putting effort into making the character come across well.
It made me think, of how the whole thing started...
Back in the early 90s, I was just a kid, and Sonic... was everywhere. Cartoons, magazines, pasta cans.
But what he meant to me was more than a massive marketing and merchandising campaign, it was the feeling that somewhere out there, there was a cool dude who cared about me.
I never needed to physically meet him, he was all around. In a cartoon, in a choose your own adventure book, the many UK Sonic comics, on some level I knew all these things were created to keep kids like me happy, and you know what? They did.
Sonic became a kind of escape for me. A world where there were cool dudes who wouldn't criticise or beat up or admonish me, but accept me and acknowledge me for the cool person I was. Who would see my value, and be there for me.
In return, I guess I was there for him, watching him in his adventures, exploring book shops for more details of his exploits, and finally figuring out how to get my hands on a VHS cassette of the Sonic OVA, not to mention getting a Dreamcast and getting to play his adventures in an entirely new world.
Yeah, it was a relationship of sorts, a weird one since he wasn't real, and some would even call me brainwashed by corporate marketing. Even I thought that for a while.
But looking at that movie ticket, I realised it was a back and forth of a completely different kind. The people responsible for a Sonic product keep changing, it's like a tennis match where every time you return a ball over the net, someone different tries to return the serve. Sometimes you get fumbles, sometimes you get fantastical hits, but it's all part of the same match.
My relationship in a way was with the many people who worked to make different parts of Sonic the Hedgehog a reality. Sometimes even they had a similar relationship to Sonic that I did, but all the time they were all trying to make something involving a Blue Hedgehog mean something to the people who interacted with it. In some way, this becomes a meta-entity, beyond any single person or even any single company. No single person 100% gets it, no two people perceive it 100% the same way, but through it all, the entity of Sonic is there, and it means a lot to so many people, myself included.
If I want to express my own way of seeing this, Sonic is a cool dude who wants us to believe in ourselves. He wants us to have adventure, have fun, keep our friend close, and not let our enemies get us down. He represents green hills and blue skies, but knows we all must dive into darker, more threatening territory sooner or later, just making sure that we remember that we can't let it change who we are.
Sonic to me is a companion. Not just Sonic of course, also Tails, and his worlds, and dear gosh all the insanely good music. They've taught me that there are things to enjoy in life, and trying is better than nothing, and physical activity makes you happier. They taught me that there's so many opportunities and wonderful things out there around the corner if you're willing to go out and look for them. They taught me that whatever strange surroundings you find yourself in, it's just another Zone with its own unique features to learn from, interact with and have fun with. Being true to yourself, going with your gut, and not taking everything too seriously, all things I took with me, or maybe just re-emphasised, from the Sonic stuff I got involved in.
And as life went on, I recognised many other people were affected by Sonic's messages, not always in the same way (why was that one guy so obsessed with Sonic noses?), but in vaguely the same direction, and some of the coolest people I know I found because we both followed the same star. They even created a lot of cool Sonic stuff that while not official, undeniably contributed to the whole Sonic mythology itself (some even referenced in the movie). For me, it was great to see cool Sonic stuff regardless of source; though sometimes with all the OCs and different takes and different interpretations, it was hard for me to remember exactly what it was about Sonic that so pulled me in in the first place.
With that movie ticket, one final memory fell into place. He'd always be there. He wouldn't get sick, wouldn't leave me, wouldn't disappear. As long as they were people keeping the flag flying, there'd always be a Sonic that simply tried to make people happy, to tell us that the world is more fun and enjoyable than we sometimes think it is. That whatever the rains and downers, we can always run towards a new horizon.

Sonal Celebration Week Submission: Reunion
In case Tumblr ate my direct submission to @boundforfreedomsonsal I’m also posting my submission myself with the Tumblr tagged. So finally the celebration is here, and here’s my first submission. Taking place around issue 50 of the Archie-series, this is my take on when Sonic woke Sally up. As well as my own fanfic head-canon injection where I personally feel after all the kerfuffle with Endgame, Sonic and Sally got their confessions out and started the road to being a couple there. Instead of the long, convoluted delayed process, we fans had to wait nearly ten years to see to fruition.
REUNION:
The only sound was the crunching of leaves under Sonic’s shoes after he slowed down upon reaching the memorial. His heart instantly ached at the sight of it, despite knowing from Doctor Quack that Sally wasn’t dead. However, the sight of her ‘viewing’ memorial and her body resting in the clear-view casket, just hammered home what was his reality until a few minutes ago. His heart was hammering in his chest. The closer he got, his brain reminding him of the water-fowl doctor’s words. ‘She’s alive, but in a coma. Her tenacious will-power probably saved her life as much as her getting medical attention quickly. However, while Sally’s body has mended, I have no clue if and when she will wake up.’
Sonic himself had been advised to stay in bed given how utterly fatigued he had been through the entire ‘Endgame’ fiasco as everyone was calling Sally’s seeming death, his frame-job, and Robotnik’s near victory which ended in his defeat. Shuddering Sonic looked at his hands, they still tingled from impacting on the fatso’s face, and by God, if the Ultimate Annihilator hadn’t taken out Robuttnik; he was ready to end him himself. A thought that scared him to the core, especially on how he still felt okay with the act if had taken Robotnik’s life.
Guess luck was looking out for him, and maybe, just maybe luck would hold out again.
As he reached the see-through casket, a disguised medical pod, his mind snapped back to the here and now. Sally looked so peaceful, so, very dead. He knew she wasn’t, but the brief flicker of thought made his heart jump, and his breathing increase for a moment. All the pent up emotions were wanting to spill out, but he held them in. Focusing back on his task, Sonic found the latches sealing the casket and input the combination code into the five buttons Doctor Quack had given him. After the code was inputted, a soft but potent ‘hiss’ sound could be heard as the casket was unsealed and could now be opened as he wished. Grasping the edge of the container, he pulls open the clear-top, which flipped open from the bottom before automatic hinges locked the canopy into place.
Looking down upon Sally’s form, he could now see clearly, she was breathing, but very shallowly. His gaze briefly went up to the clear-canopy of her viewing casket. He had to give kudos to Doctor Quack for installing some weird, trick into the thing that hid the fact Sally was breathing from anyone who came to pay their respects. If he hadn’t pulled out all the stops, Robotnik would have undoubted discovered the ruse and finished the job Snively set into motion through Drago and Hershey. Kneeling down, he reached out, softly touching her auburn hair, and gently began to caress it. Sally always had such soft hair, even when the humidity of the summer would frizzle it to heck, somehow she still kept it silky soft. Smiling Sonic trailed his hand down to her face, feeling those adorable cheek tufts, and very, very happy he could feel the warmth of her body under her fur. Another much-needed indicator she was alive, which helped set his still hammer-beating heart at ease to some degree.
As a soft breeze blew past him, the blue hedgehog stared at the Princess’ sleeping face, wishing her eyes would open. The last few days of thinking she had died weighed on him all the things he never got to say to her, the regrets of not having gotten to say such things to her. The denial of things to come, things he at the time felt he’d taken for granted that they would come in due time, only there was no time. Now, she was alive, but would she even wake up so he could make good on doing all those things he should have already said and made clear.
Life was too short, and thankfully he’d be given another chance, and if she’d only wake up, he’d make good on telling her everything he’d always felt. With a long sigh exhaling from his lips he looks down upon Sally’s peacefully, sleeping figure again as a stray thought crossed his mind.
“No way it’d work, just stupid story-book mumbo-jumbo…” He muttered to himself, but yet at the same time, what else did he have to lose? Stranger things have come true in his short life. Grasping the edges of the casket, Sonic leaned over, planting a soft kiss to Sally’s cheek, murmuring softly, almost pleadingly, hoping it might awaken her. “I love you, Sally, please come back to us, to me.” Pulling back from the kiss, he sat on his knees at her side, watching her, and unsurprised nothing happened. That’s what you get for putting hope in fairytale nonsense.
Just as Sonic was about to pick up Sally to take her back to the hospital, someplace less out in the open, he saw her eyebrows furrow and twitch. His breath caught in his throat as he saw more signs of Sally stirring awake. “Sal?” He asked quietly, hope slowly blooming into his tone. Her mouth opened and a low groan escaped, followed by her mouth smacking together as if she was trying to get rid of morning dry-ness of the throat. The cute ears on top of her head twitched, and her fingers began to move, unclasping from the pose she was placed in, and resting on the bottom of the casket. With a smooth, if slow motion, Sally pushed herself up into a sitting position; flinching as if the motion caused her a brief bout of pain.
“Ahh…” Her voice was scratchy and parched, but clearly hers. Finally, her eyelids managed to force themselves open, and Sonic soon found those beautiful blue peepers looking into his own as Sally craned her head causing their gazes to meet at last. Her gaze turned to one of concern as she saw Sonic’s expression along with big-wet tears rolling down his cheeks.
“Sonic? Is that you? What’s wrong, are you okay-?” Sally’s words of confusion turned to concern and were soon interrupted as she found herself caught up in a big hug that threatened to expel the contents of her lungs as she found herself gasping for air.
“YOU’RE AWAKE!” Sonic cried, standing up fully with Sally in his arms, swinging her around as he both laughed and cried happily in pure, unadulterated joy.
“S-Sonic! A-air, can’t breathe!” Gasped the squirrel-munk as the blue hedgehog spun her around, adding a bit of dizziness to her lack of oxygen.
Realizing this, Sonic quickly sets her on her feet and lets go of her, but his hands instantly snatch hers and hold on. As if afraid letting go would allow her to disappear. “Sorry Sal! I just-I just…” His words trailed off as his voice broke. Unable to really say anything he just smiled at her. “J-just glad you’re back.”
Shaking her head, she gently pulls her hands from his and cups his face, looking concerned. “What happened Sonic? You never cry unless something big happened.”
Sniffling the hedgehog wiped his eyes, trying to dry his tears. “We all thought you were dead.”
Staring at him blankly, Sally couldn’t speak as it felt like a lump was in her throat, but she somehow managed after a few beats. “Dead?!” Her tone started off incredulous but as she looked about, one look at the memorial site told her Sonic wasn’t blowing things out of proportion. Putting a hand to her head, Sally wracked her brain and slowly recalled falling down the cut rope. “I fell, that’s right I fell, my rope was cut.”
With a nod, Sonic explained everything. Her near-death experience, his being framed for her murder, Robotnik’s plans, and all the little bits and pieces that fit into each puzzle-piece slot to make up the entire affair. Once Sonic finished, Sally stood staring briefly before moving closer and hugging him tightly.
“I’m so sorry Sonic, that you went through all that.”
Accepting the hug, Sonic fought the urge to squeeze her again and nuzzled against her face, unable to help himself. Luckily for him, Sally didn’t see to mind. “I’m just glad you’re alive, that’s all that matters.” Being able to hold her again alone made what he went through worth it alone. “We’ll catch ya’ up to speed. Gonna have lots to do especially as Buttnik’s gone for good.”
A soft smile formed on her beautiful face, as Sally exhaled gently. “I still can scarcely believe it. It-it’s really over isn’t it?” It was like a dream, and she prayed to whatever deity was listening this wasn’t the case. In fact, Sally reached down to her own wrist and pinched the skin under her fur. After a brief flash of pain, followed by a wince. Once nothing seemed to have changed, she let out a sound of relief. “I’m not dreaming am I?” “Not at all,” Sonic replied all smiles. “So the war’s over, we can stop fighting, well mostly.” With a nod and a shrug Sonic quipped. “Minus whatever under-bosses Buttnik left lying around Snotly, yeah we’re good.”
Both enjoy a much-needed chuckle, breaking the hug and just staring at one another. Recalling his earlier despair and regret for not ‘saying’ things to Sally, Sonic swallowed a hard lump in his throat and took her hands into his again. “Sally I gotta say something to you.”
Curious and intrigued, Sally grasped his hands, giving a friendly and assuring squeeze back. “Oh? What is it Sonic?”
It was now or never, he’d thought of this moment often. Of the various lines he could say, maybe even whip out his guitar and sing a rock-ballad; any and every avenue he’d entertained this moment in his brain for some time. Yet now; he couldn’t find any of his prior ideas truly worth their salt in conveying this moment.
So Sonic did what he did best, and improvised. “Sally I love you, I always have and I want you to know that!!” His words came out fast, yet were clear enough to be heard clearly despite the nervous-tick in his tone. Almost as soon as his confession came out, Sonic began to sweat and panic internally. Did he screw up by not being flowery, and all that mushy stuff girls were supposed to like? As this internal panic began to wreak his mind; he almost failed to take notice of Sally’s response.
The Princess’ eyes first went wide as her jaw began slack, staring at Sonic, to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. Did she hear Sonic correctly? “Say it again Sonic, please.” She begged, her own heart beating loudly in her ears.
Sally’s words snapped Sonic out of his initial panic, and upon seeing those beautiful baby-blues looking at him inquiringly, he nodded as he mustered his courage and confidence. “I love you Sally Acorn, I always have.” Lifting her hands he placed both on his chest, allowing her to feel his widely beating heart. He felt her fingers curl in his chest fur, a sensation that almost distracted him from talking it felt so nice. “I don’t know when, but...I just knew it, we’ve been together since we were in diapers. You’re my best friend and without you in my life, it would suck a lot.” Licking his lips, he fought back any nervous lumps trying to make talking difficult. “I love you, and I need you in my life Sal-I, I thought I lost you and I can’t… I can’t let a day go by without letting you know.”
Sonic again found himself worried he screwed up as Sally’s eyes misted over and Tears began to leak from them. “Sal? D-did I say something-MMMPH?!” Now it was his turn to be interrupted, as Sally pulled him close, her arms now firmly around his neck and her lips over his. Soon Sonic’s eyes slowly close and he returned the kiss; his own arms wrapping around her waist and held her close as their bodies almost seemed to shift and rub together perfectly. Slowly the kiss evolved, becoming much more explicit as each opened their mouths, letting their tongues intertwine as a surging heat-formed between them. Not a sexual one, that was there but not prominently, this was the heat between two hearts that had found their way to one another.
Soon the kiss ended, and both parted, staring at one another as they tried to catch their breath. Sally recovered first, smiling warmly at Sonic as she brought a hand up to cup his cheek. “I love you too Sonic Hedgehog, always since I can remember.” Like him, she kept her words simple, any prior ‘showy’ confession was pushed aside in lieu of simple, direct but heartfelt. “Whatever is coming over the horizon I want to meet it with you at my side.”
“And you mine.” He smiled widely, like her he now had tears of joy in his eye. The two lean forward, resting their foreheads together as they basked at the moment. Robotnik might be gone, but the war was not yet over; and who knows what threats may lay over the next hill or around the bend.
Whatever was to come, they would face it together, now and forever.
