headcanon that marinette is constantly tired because of her guardian duties but adrien thinks she's just staying up late to work on projects so he lets her sleep whenever he can.

Daminette
Is anyone still reading/writing Daminette fics?? It's one of my favorite MLxDC ships and I've been working on a longish fic for a few years now, but my anxiety kept me from posting anything about it until I had a good portion of it written out. I'm getting into separating and editing chapters now, so even if only one person is still reading, I think I'll start posting soon (soon like as soon as I clean up my first five chapters)
Edit: I did the thing! Here's the link!

in a cage behind
Archive Of Our Own || Masterlist
A/N: I recommend listening to "the silent screams by anna blue" while reading :)
in a cage behind
one shot
—————
With every passing day, she could only feel the growing exhaustion in her body. That despite doing things that normally make her relaxed, it agitates her even more. The boundless expectations on her shoulders, the responsibilities she must bare, and the endless hope given to her are all weighing her down into a lifeless puppet, a marionette.
The recent confrontation with the Order still covers her mind. Their threats to eradicate her existence as Ladybug hung in the air. She knew that she wasn't worthy to be the guardian, but she had hoped that at least her seemingly endless sacrifices for the lives of others could suffice as her worthiness for the Ladybug Miraculous. It doesn't.
"I'm caught up in your expectations You're trying to make me live your dream But I'm causing you so much frustration And you only want the best for me"
Life in school wasn't any different.
Every day is a challenge for her. Avoiding her classmates' abuse, Rossi's lies and defamation, Bustier's expectations and demands and Adrien's passiveness in the situation. Everything was surrounding her.
"Mari—"
"Don't. Don't you dare call me something you're not entitled to."
He rolled his eyes. "C'mon Mari, your overreacting. They're just teasing, no one's getting hurt—"
"I am! I am getting hurt, Agreste! Do you think no one's getting hurt?! Well, I guess I'm no one because I'm getting hurt! And I don't need you to remind me over and over again that I'm alone in this mess, because of you!"
"You wanted me to show more interest To always keep a big bright smile Be that pinky little perfect princess But I'm not that type of child"
Hidden inside the small space of an abandoned house, she looked outside the window to the dark and silent night of Paris.
A memory flashes through her mind.
"Maman! This! This!"
A short Asian woman heartily laughed at her young toddler's antics. And a huge bearded man taking pictures from behind them.
"Yes, Mon chérie?"
Young Marinette twirled around while wearing the flower crown she had found in a stall.
"Is it pretty?" She asks.
"Yes, chérie. It is very pretty."
Due to her mother's words, young Marinette smiled so brightly under the gazes of her loving parents. Looking so ethereal with the lights shining behind her.
"And this storm is rising inside of me Don't you feel that our whole worlds collide? It's getting harder to breathe It hurts deep inside"
"It hurts, Tikki. It hurts so much..."
She wanted to cry. To let her heart out. But, she can't.
The moment she let go of everything inside her will mean that she failed. That she let everything around her get the best of her. The pain of suppressing these loud and painful emotions is eating her inside.
No matter what happens, she silently swallows all of it and put it in the back, locked away from her. She cannot break.
Ladybug can't break. Marinette can't break.
"Just let me be Who I am It's what you really need to understand And I hope so hard for the pain to go away"
"C'mon Ladybug! This is our fate! We were meant to save the city, and you can't change that!"
"It's not mine!"
Chat Noir was taken aback. Ladybug rarely shouts at him or at anyone. So to hear her voice raise jolted him.
"I never wanted all of this! I wanted to live, a simple life where I'm happy, and my family's happy! This isn't me, this isn't mine, and if you think this is my fate, it's not. I will beg everyone that it isn't."
Ladybug stepped away from him motioning to leave after the argument. But before she swing away, she looked over her shoulder and spoke to him.
"Because if this is my fate, then how cruel of the world to give it to me..."
"And it's torturing me But I can't break free So I cry and cry but just won't get it out The silent scream"
Staring at the mirror, she can't recognize herself anymore.
The darkened bags beneath her eyes, the dull bluebell eyes, and the black earrings on her ears.
Fate. She laughed when she thought about this world. How could fate be cruel to her, to shove the world's problem at her hands. How could fate burden her so much?
Looking at the black earrings and then moving to the closed sewing box where a box of powerful artifacts hides underneath, she smiled pitifully. Yeah, how cruel of fate to let her carry everything.
"Tell me why you're putting pressure on me And everyday you 'cause me harm That's the reason why I feel so lonely Even though you hold me in your arms"
"Marinette, I know that you are having a small squabble with your classmates, but do you really want to just give up on your friendships?" Bustier asks silently.
"But Madam! They're—"
"Think about what the Marinettes of the world would do, I think they would put everything aside and help her friends."
Marinette stares at her homeroom teacher. She could literally see the rose-painted windows in her eyes. She could see that no matter what the problem is, Caline Bustier only sees the good in it, even the good in the bad.
Reaching this conclusion as she stares at her teacher, her fists slowly curl into a ball, gaze hardening, and heart closing.
"Good day, Mdm Bustier."
She turned her back and left, not sparing at her teacher's gobsmacked expression on her face. Marinette looks ahead, with cold and unwavering eyes.
"Wanna put me in a box of glitter But I'm just trying to get right out And now you're feeling so so bitter Because I've let you down"
No.
No. It can't be!
She... She failed...
How could a guardian lose every single miraculous to her worst enemy? Why did she trust Félix?! Why?!
"I-I'm sorry... I'm so sorry Tikki..."
"It's okay, Marinette. It's not your fault."
'But, it is mine.' She thought ruefully with a bitter smile.
"We'll just have to find a way to bring all of it back. Me, Plagg, Wayzz and Trixx are still here, we'll help you."
"And this storm is rising inside of me Don't you feel that our whole worlds collide? It's getting harder to breathe It hurts deep inside"
When was the last time she had a good sleep?
When was the last time she relaxed and spend time with her family?
When was the last time she was happy?
Endless problems continue to come her way. And Marinette doesn't know if she can handle it anymore.
'It's too much.'
Looking at the blinking stars above her, she silently wonders, what if she was there? What if she let go in the beginning? Thousands of what-ifs entered her mind.
Thousands of regrets, pain and guilt continued to build up inside her. And it's creating something inside her.
Something she might not be able to stop.
"Just let me be Who I am It's what you really need to understand And I hope so hard for the pain to go away"
After months of torture. She finally retrieved almost all of the miraculouses she lost.
But not the butterfly and the peacock.
Standing above the crowd looking at her like she was a god, she felt sick. How could she accept such devotion, when she knows she doesn't deserve it.
Endless questions were thrown at her, but the only thing that stood out among the sea of words was, 'Are you and Chat Noir dating?'.
Upon hearing that, Chat Noir who was waving from behind her had a smug smile on his face when she turned to him. With that action, she finally knew.
She really is alone.
"And it's torturing me But I can't break free So I cry and cry but just won't get it out The silent scream"
"Marinette... We know that you're old enough to solve your own problems, but please know we're always here for you."
Sabine said at the closed trapdoor of her daughter's room.
"We're here, chérie. Always here."
On the other side of the door, Marinette sat silently. Gripping her hair tightly, and teaching her heart to shut close. To not let anything or anyone enter. To lock everything inside.
For good.
"Can't you see how I cry for help 'Cause you should love me just for being myself I'll drown in an ocean Of pain and emotion If you don't save me right away"
"I wish I never met you."
Angry eyes stare at her being. But Marinette only looked straight into a pair of green gleeful eyes.
"We are not friends anymore, Marinette. And I wish we never were."
"Gladly."
She turned around, and the moment she stepped outside of the classroom, Marinette knew there was no turning back. And thus the metaphorical bridge that connects her to them, was set ablaze leaving ashes in its wake.
Marinette knows she can't hold on for long. The forming bruises on her face hurt.
She seethes at the sight of Chat Noir beside the villain, looking at her hungrily. Like a prey in front of a predator.
But Marinette isn't willing to be prey. She can't.
Smirking at her weak form is Hawkmoth, otherwise known as Shadow Moth. The look in his eyes zeroes into the miraculous in her ears. The other half of the Cat Miraculous.
"We finally meet Ladybug. Ah, no. Nice to meet you, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the current holder of the Ladybug Miraculous and the Guardian of the box."
She scowls at them.
"I think it's time to let everything go now. There's nothing for you to do, you failed."
"Just let me be Who I am It's what you really need to understand And I hope so hard for the pain to go away"
On one sunny day, the skies suddenly clouded with dark clouds floating above them.
Every Parisian in the vicinity was startled.
Sabine was looking at the skies, wondering if a heavy storm is coming. She looks at her husband before pointing towards the upper floor. Tom understood and nodded.
Sabine climbed her way to her daughter's room.
"Marinette?"
She knocked and called her multiple times before opening it and was welcomed with the most horrific view.
Everything inside was destroyed.
She runs back to the bakery and informed her husband. Where was her daughter?!
"Uhm, Babe? Is it going to rain or what?" Alya asks.
Gathering in the park was a fruitful idea before the darkening happened.
The class wonders what was going on. Lila was even having fun getting the sole attention of everyone.
The lone figure on the Eiffel tower stares beneath the scrambling city.
The kwamis behind shuffled anxiously, even the god of destruction looks warily.
A glowing symbol pulses on her palm. The symbol she despises. The symbol that ruined her life. The previous mother box was now etched into the veins of her body. Pulsing, begging to be let out, but she keeps it chained inside. Wearing nothing of the artifacts only the etched symbol.
Her eyes were dull. No emotions pass through it.
"Marinette?" Tikki carefully calls.
How long has she endured? How long did she dream for all of it to end? And now, how can she release everything inside her?
She sighs slowly. 'Let it begin.'
The wind howls loudly. A silent scream is carried to the ends of the world. She stares coldly at everything, before turning away, a silent order for the kwamis to follow. The order of their Guardian.
As they say, the eyes are the windows to the soul, and thus the figure of someone trapped behind bars is reflected in her eyes.
The gleaming purple shade of her eyes caged the screaming figure filled with emotions inside her.
"And it's torturing me But I can't break free So I cry and cry but just won't get it out The silent scream My silent scream"
Let me know if you like to be added to any future one shot's taglist!

If the Kwami remember the old timeline, then Wayzz, Tikki and Plagg must remember Adrien and Marinette, right? Wouldn't they lead Fu to them? Or is something preventing Fu from doing that/Fu thinks it's too risky to make a move with Hawkmoth/Gabriel watching??
well... hm, there's kind of a problem. The timeline was mostly reset, but there are lingering echoes that things aren't right. For one, the Kwami remember the last timeline - so do the Sentikids, and in fact, so do robots/AI's of any fashion. Not only that, but some mechanisms, nonorganics, exist as though the last timeline was still in place, like passwords and lingering, half-corrupted photographs in dead links and dead blogs.
...so,

Drama-Bomb: Part 3
Marinette could feel the tension in the dining hall, as soon as she entered. A man, very similar to Damian, was at the head of the table. On his left was his mother and on the right were three gentleman; obviously his brothers from the way he described them. She could feel everyone's gaze on her immediately.
'Why did he decide now of all times to tell them about us?'
"So, how did you two meet?" Dick asked, immediately after Marinette had sat down.
"Dick!" growled Bruce.
"What we're all curious?" he defended himself, "Shouldn't we ask?"
"I see you gave them nothing." Marinette turned towards Damian.
"Was I suppose to?" he questioned, "I seem to recall a similar situation. Waterboarding would have been a better experience.
Mari giggled, "Maman was not that bad, not this quick, either. "
"Your father's size, at the very least, would have been enough." Damian recalled.
"I told you he looked big, but was a teddy bear." she smiled.
"Father is big." Damian stated, "You're father rivals Bane."
"Teddy Bear." Mari sang back.
Damian sighed. He knew he wasn't going to win this argument. He looked up to see his family was already examining their body language and mannerisms.
The Waynes remained silent. Damian and his girlfriend seemed close. She was teasing Damian and he wasn't getting upset. Apparently, he was secure enough to meet her parents. How long ago, they had no idea.
She turned towards Dick, "We met at university."
"How long have you been dating?" Tim asked next, "Apparently, Damian mentioned years? I was asleep when he told us."
"Two, almost three." she answered, calmly.
The Waynes sat there in shock. They knew Damian wasn't one to joke, but how had they not noticed him in a relationship for that long. How had he snuck out and left on dates?
'Have we gotten sloppy?'
Damian leaned closer to her, "They like to pry into every detail. They feel offended I was able to keep you a secret for so long."
Mari just giggled.
"What made you ask him out?" Jason questioned.
Marinette sighed, "Seems you've misunderstood. Damain asked me out."
She noticed that seemed to have caught them all off guard, even his mother.
Offended, Damian huffed, "I have eyes; thank you."
"Uh, De-Damian…same question." Jason spoke.
"Her creativity and intelligence." He announced.
"Huh?" Dick replied.
"We have business classes together." the youngest explained, "She has a unique way of looking at problems and strategizing her work."
"Why did you say yes?" Tim asked, quickly.
Damian's girlfriend smiled, "I like how honest he is."
"I mean," Jason shrugged, "that's one way to say 'offend people'."
"More like he is blunt with his words." Mari replied, "He doesn't mix his words or hide behind lies. It's not something everyone likes. People like to hear what they want, not what they need."
That wasn't the answer they had been expecting.
Talia sipped on her wine, "You know, Dear, you could do so much better."
"Mother!" Damian growled out.
Marinette remained silent and looked down at her plate.
'I guess everyone else thinks the same. They're all so quiet. His dad has just been looking at me and hasn't even asked me a question.'
"Silence, Damian." Talia remarked, "I was talking to Marinette."
'What?'
Marinette looked up towards Talia. She could see Jason cackling out of the corner of her eyes. She quickly looked at her boyfriend and surprisingly, he looked offended.
"My Dear," his mother continued, "if I have learned anything, is that these Wayne Boys, adopted or not, have the emotional compatibility of a gold fish. Something is always making them late for a date or they have to reschedule, last moment. Holidays like Valentine's Day or Anniversaries are not a priority for them; it's just another day to forget."
Marinette could see Bruce's face turning red and him attempting to shrink into the background. She couldn't help the snort and started laughing.
"Habibiti?" Damian asked, concerned.
"Relax, Damian." Mari smiled, "I'm sure your mother is just watching out for you. You mentioned your parents don't live together so she's sharing her experience. They do have a lot of questions; I believe my parents interrogated you as well."
Damian leaned against the back of his chair, "Tch."
They watched in amazement as Damian's girlfriend seemed to have some sort of command over him. He didn't talk back or complain. Talia watched as the boy she had raised fall in line with his lover. The feeling eased Bruce a tiny bit about the whole dinner.
"If our relationship were to continue, in the future, I'll sign whatever prenup you want me to, as long as my lawyer looks it over first." Marinette explained, trying to ease the tension in the room.
"Huh?" spoke a confused Tim.
"Well," Mari began, "Damian isn't as……extroverted as Mr. Wayne, but a woman does need her own reassurance."
"Such as?" Bruce asked, not sure if he liked what the answer was going to be.
"Damian keeps the Wayne fortune and I keep the money I make from my own business. I'll even keep my maiden name, if that's your desire." she stated, "Many woman want money, power or fame. Others…..revenge."
"And you?" Jason prodded.
"Let's just say if Damian were to follow in his father's….playboy theatrics," she smiled, "he would spend the rest of his life in regret and searching for someone who would never be found again."
Bruce cleared his throat.
'No wonder Damian told me not to use the 'Brucie' persona. She was definitely not a fan.'
"I don’t know." Dick chimed in, "He has the money and the power….the resources."
Marinette opened her mouth, but Damian shouted, "Enough!"
He turned to her and kept his gaze on his girlfriend, "Instantly?" he questioned.
Marinette glared at him, "Damian, you would be lucky if that's all I do. Adrien knows damn well how I get when I'm angry. I can and will leave you in a pile of ash, should you turn into my enemy. If you touch one of the few people I despise, beyond reason, I'll leave half your body on your mother's doorstep and the other, here, on the manor steps."
The room fell silent, with a bated breath for Damian's reaction.
"Understood, Habibiti." he replied.
"What if it's for a business meeting?" Dick quickly questioned.
He quickly found himself on the other end of Marinette's glare. He found he didn't like it and understood why Damian had caved. It was worse than Bruce's silence and Alfred's disappointment stance.
"Damian knows how to speak up for himself and say no. He doesn't like unknown people in his personal space and I respect his boundaries." Mari declared, "The fact that you have to ask me, tell me you still haven't learned this and you don't know your brother at all. The only thing that will happen is he will harbor resentment towards you."
"And if Damian chooses to come live with me?" Talia asked, shifting the focus.
"Fashion is universal." Mari smiled, "I can buy materials and sell from anywhere. I've had my own clients since I was thirteen."
Plagg zipped out from his hiding place, "Give me cheese, already! I'm tired of the back and forth when they all know."
"Plagg!" Damian hissed.
He turned to see his holder's family looking confused and frozen.
"Oh, they didn't know." he guessed.
"No they didn't!" Damian growled, reaching for him, "You're not getting your cheese now!"
"No!" Plagg cried, and quickly flew at Damian's face.
He latched on and whined, "It's your fault! You didn't feed me!"
"You didn't feed him!" Marinette asked, glaring at him.
The family watched the back and forth argument, trying to grasp what was going on. It was like Damian was being scolded for not feeding a child; no, not just a child, their child.
"I fed him!" Damian argued back.
Marinette gave him a pointed look.
"He fed me 'string cheese'!" Plagg cried out, "It didn't even taste like cheese. It was peelable! Bug, your husband is a menace to society!"
Marinette sighed, "That’s' why he's your holder."
'Wait! Damian's married!'
'Since when did he get a floating cat?'
'What is that thing?'
'How does she know what it is and why is Damian taking care of it?'
'If Demon Brat being a menace is a good thing. That thing isn't so good.'
Talia smiled, raising her glass, "Seems I underestimated you."
"Yes, you did." Marinette spoke, keeping her eyes on Talia.
The last thing she expected was for Damian's mother to say was, "Welcome to the family."
"Wait!" shouted Jason, "What?"
Marinette sighed, "Come out, Tikki. Might as well, since Plagg's stomach got him in trouble again."
The Batfam watched as a giant ladybug flew from out of nowhere and yanked on the floating cat's eat, chastising him.
"What are they?" Time questioned.
"Kwamis." Talia spoke, "Or Gods, to be precise."
Marinette glanced at Damian's mother. Talia held up her hands in surrender, briefly.
"Seems my son is much more tact when it comes to this relationships." she declared, with a smile "To think you hid a marriage from both of us."
Bruce tensed. He had forgotten the flying cat had called him that.
'He hadn't known Damian was dating. He didn't know he had gotten married. What else didn't he know about his son?'
Bruce looked over at his son and noticed his ear tips had turned red.
"Uh, that's Plagg's nickname for him." Marinette spoke, clearly embarrassed, "We're not….actually married."
Bruce relaxed more into his seat.
"We should-" he began.
Mari declared, "They won't be picked up on any recording devices, visually or audio."
"Alfred!" Jason shouted, "Bring out the hard liquor."
Bruce just nodded. He hadn't expected anything that had happened this week. His son was dating someone with access to Gods. Talia was sitting at the dinner table like she had always lived there. The girlfriend obviously knew who they all were and about his son's questionable past. A drink sound like a good idea.

Guardian upgrade redesign. To be fair I thing the canon guardian design is far superior to the basic ladybug outfit because it has the black to break up all the red and just has more interest overall. I wanted to expand on that with my version. Whenever I make a ladybug design I like to really pull back on the spots because I think that fewer more and more intentional portions of red with spots are more striking and actually more reminiscent of an actual ladybug. I made this look more armored to be more beetle like, and replaced the pieces of hair sticking out with an additional set of ribbons in black. I like her a lot and think she works as an upgrade to my version of basic pre-guardian ladybug as well as a more interesting canon redesign.

Saving What's Left — Chapter Three
First | Previous | Next || Masterlist
The next morning came rather peacefully than normal. Hawkmoth still hasn't sent out an akuma which she is happy with, yet worried that the villain is planning something big once again like what happened with the Scarlet Moth incident especially since Lila Rossi is still parading near her.
School life is mundane for her at this moment. Since every day is like a repeat of the previous day, get to school, get accused by her once called 'best friend', get reprimanded by an incompetent teacher, and once again during the afternoon. In all honesty, she was tired of it. All she wanted to do now is finish her grade and stop Hawkmoth to put the miraculous at rest for a century. Hopefully.
Walking up to school in a rather new style of hers, she could feel every student's eyes on her. And despite the awkwardness that is starting to bubble in her stomach, she slightly tilted her head upwards and tried to walk in confidence not minding any of the lingering stares and mumbled whispers in her way. She entered the locker room only to see a crowd gathered around people who are screaming at the top of their lungs.
Marinette pushed her way through it and saw Chloé and Césaire going at it against each other. She moved her gaze and saw the door of her locker in ruins.
It looked as if someone used it as their punching bag and spray painted it with the word 'bitch' in bright red colour. Her gaze hardened before looking around and saw the slight smirk on someone's face and right there Marinette knew who was responsible for the destruction of it.
Before she could step forward Damocles, the disgrace of a principal, and Mendeleiev, one of the few staff in Dupont that knows about the ongoing b*llshit in the school, stepped out of the crowd.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Damocles shouted.
Alya Césaire looked at them and a sigh of relief came out of her mouth, "Look, Principal Damocles, Marinette destroyed her locker door and tried to frame it at Lila!"
Marinette saw the annoyed expression of her blonde friend, "Don't you ever accuse her, of your crimes!"
The moment the blonde spoke, they returned to their screaming match. It was the time that Marinette thought she put a stop to it, so she stepped out and all eyes are on her suddenly. Some were surprised by the blank expression on her face, knowing that she is the type of person that wears her heart on her sleeve and is easy to read like a book.
"Why don't we just open everyone's locker to see who did it, or we can just check the cameras that are pointing right at the view of the lockers." She said, at the corner of her eyes, she saw the person pale immensely and inside she is rejoicing at the sight of it.
As every student look up to see a security camera attached to the wall, she knew that the person will definitely be in a lot of trouble and she'll use every inch of this incident to make sure they know not to mess with her at this crucial moment of her life.
——— •• ◆ •• ———
In class, Marinette's thoughts wandered away to the thought of a different universe. Deep inside she knows she should not mess with fate. It is a type of taboo that someone that holds ancient powers should clear their head of any kind of destruction that fate will not approve of.
However, she, a guardian who has a whole box of ancient jewels sitting in her room, a pair of earrings in her earlobes and a ring hanging down on a chain hidden inside her clothing is a huge temptation for her. Mindlessly fidling the necklace she had created, her eyes moved to the direction of her friends that are now sporting a new type of accessory on their body.
Despite any warnings in her mind, she continued her drowning journey to the abyss of temptation, the temptation of making a wish and hoping all this never happened, or the temptation of going back in time where she can manage to give up the Ladybug Miraculous and continue her life without any link to the miraculouses and being ignorant to any information about it. The pit in her mind continues to create multiple scenarios of her being a normal girl with no powers. It was a dream for her.
"Mari, you okay? You've been silent for a while." Chloé asks in a whispered voice.
Marinette smiled at her and nodded at her that she is okay. Chloé now had a look of worry on her face but chose to ignore it for now and ask later before facing the front again.
The next thing she heard was the bell ringing indicating that it is already lunchtime and students are now standing up and clearing their tables before heading out.
"Hey, I might not join you guys today. I have to go somewhere first." She said.
Her friends nodded, and thus she left before them.
She arrived at her destination. A ruined building with a magnificent garden in the other direction away from her school. The neighbour agreed to let her sit around there and waste time in her own world for a few minutes.
Looking around the garden, she feels like she is in paradise. A world where she doesn't need to shoulder any world-threatening problems, that she doesn't need to police her own emotions in order to not fall victim to Hawkmoth. As her thoughts wander, she didn't feel the silent tears running down her face. She was staring ahead mindlessly.
Marinette knew that despite her best efforts in fighting this battle, she had a small feeling inside her that knew she wasn't fit for any of this. However, she didn't know that the feeling is mixed with regret, anger and sadness.
The anger of being chosen. The anger she had for her Master, that he had picked her, a young school girl who had big dreams in life, to be the heroine that she isn't. A heroine that is ready to give up and set aside her dreams to protect and save her people. Marinette knew she isn't that heroine.
The regret of going back. Upon meeting Tikki, she decided to give it up and chose to pass it on, her regret of going back to that very box she passed to someone and trying to be the heroine that the city needs. Every type of regret is gnawing at her. The regret of letting her dreams slip through her fingers. New York, is a city of high-end fashion. As the heroine of this forsaken city, her regret of declining a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity hangs in her mind.
And lastly, the sadness of losing everything one by one.
Her innocence to the horrors of the world, she lost it the moment she stepped up as Ladybug. In exchange for the heroic deeds she had done for the city, all she gets in return is betrayal from her previous friends, loneliness after losing the person she thought will be by her side at the time they defeat the villain, the thought of being alone in a city with knowledge of ancient magic that is used for goodwill. Everything in her life was a mess. She's only 14.
She's only fourteen.

The sound of sobbing brought him out of his reading zone. Looking behind the tree he was hiding, he saw a girl silently tearing up with her eyes staring ahead blankly.
The sobs leaving her lips were loud yet silent.
In his eyes the girl was beautiful. Porcelain skin, midnight hair with blue reflections and those blue eyes that complements her. He couldn't understand the sudden feeling of walking up towards her and wiping away that sorrowful look on her face. But he chose to stop himself and stare only. His gaze pierced her form, but she was oblivious to it.
The sudden sound of an explosion shocked her and when she looked towards the direction of the sound, his eyes also moved and he saw a huge Akuma running rampant once again.
When his eyes moved back to the girl, she was already gone.
At one moment he thought that maybe the person is only a figment of his imagination, that the girl that captured his attention is only his own fantasy.
He resumed his position and went back to reading, ignoring the screams of destruction from the Akuma and screams of distress from its victims. He knows that the city's heroes will solve it, and he doesn't need to be involved as he doesn't have anything to help with it.
Maybe reading under the shade of this tree is a good thing, at least he got to see a weeping angel in a garden of paradise.

i don’t love chat noir not being in final fight with his father, but at the same time i do love that this was the first finale where we see ladybug 100% confident in the face of impossible odds. she’s clearly terrified out of her mind but she never stops and doubts whether she can win. and it’s not that she doesn’t still need her team because she does and everyone is behind the scenes helping her, but this is the first finale we’ve seen her without any doubt in her ability to win. it’s the first time she doesn’t need a pep talk from chat noir to keep her going.
but even though she doesn’t need a pep talk and he’s not physically there with her, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still need him. it means that he’s part of her now even when he’s not there. you can feel the boost of confidence after she transforms into bug noire and it’s more than just the added power. it’s that this time she doesn’t have the ring because he abandoned her but instead because he has faith she can and will save them all. she can only do it without him because he believes she can, and through that she can believe in herself. she’s finally able to internalize the things he’s told her every finale. girl didn’t doubt for a second that she could kick gabriel’s ass and reform her team and she didn’t doubt her chat noir would be part of that team. i love how confident and strong she was and how far she’s come.

have a snippet from the lil kwami swap thing i'm working on!
High above the streets of Paris, Mister Bug and Lady Noire talk about love.
It's a dangerous topic, to be sure; one that has to be tiptoed around with utmost care. A balancing act for Mister Bug. For Lady Noire too, perhaps, but she never seems like it affects her quite as much. Maybe that's why she's the one who brings it up.
"Are you in love, Mister Bug?"
His feet, from where they'd been kicking back and forth rhythmically, come to a stop. "Huh?"
"I'm just curious," says Lady Noire. On the rooftop they sit, there's more than a few centimeters of space between them. A gap that they're both waiting for Mister Bug to bridge. He only wishes he could. "Are you?"
Mister Bug tries to catch her eye. "Are you sure you want to talk about this? We... we don't have to--"
She waves a clawed hand in the air dismissively. "It's fine," she says, even though he knows it's not. He wonders what it is that's fine: talking about love, or talking about love when they both know he won't -- he can't -- reciprocate her feelings? "I wanna know. Is there anyone you love?"
There is.
