Pritt
Tumblr media
Pritt is a successful R&B artist and radio presenter currently based in south London. She has been releasing music full time for seven years and in 2022 she had a Tik Tok go viral which boosted her career and helped her become an internet sensation. Her ethnic roots as Eelam Tamil influence her art greatly, allowing for a compelling and unique sound.
Let’s start by talking about her viral video. The video itself is a celebration of reaching one million streams on her cover of “Unakkul Naane” and features snippets of her and her family celebrating and dancing with balloons while the song plays in the background. I thought this was very sweet because in her talk she said that her Dad in particular wasn’t sure that this was the right career path for her but he can be seen smiling and taking part in the celebrations alongside Pritt and her Mum.
A portion, but of course not all, of her success is due to her social media prowess, particularly on Tik Tok and YouTube.  A concept that comes into play here is Audience Control which refers to the viewers’ role in determining which pieces of content gain traction on Pritt’s platforms and how it’s impossible to predict which. In this case it was her “thank you for one million streams” which boosted the song to 50 million streams in the space of six months. Pritt describes this sudden surge as “not fun at all but it was a good flex”, with her success, despite the downs that came with it, propelling her forward into a pool of opportunity.
Although the audience controls what is popular initially, after the creator’s platform gets moving, the control evolves and settles into the creator’s hands. In other words, it’s now up to them to maintain the viewers’ attention and keep them coming back for more.
This takes us nicely to what I'd like to talk about next. Pritt’s post viral successes as a touring artist and radio presenter. She has been enjoying an action packed and fruitful career for some time now with her most recent gigs at the Queen Elizabeth hall in London and Dialled In festival in Manchester. She also played at The Great Escape and Reading festival in 2023. As of January 2021, Pritt has been one of 8 Future Sounds artists for the BBC Asian Network and is the first Tamil woman to do so. This laid the foundations for her radio show on the same network where she hosts interviews, curates playlists and plays music by other South Asian artists to provide recognition on this half of the globe. She has also been featured in multiple fashion media publications, these being GQ, GUAP, Pop SUGAR, Clash Magazine, Trench Magazine and EAR MILK. She has even worked with gigantic brands such as Nike, Adidas, Apple, Mix Cloud, Pirate studios, PUMA, Levi’s, Kurt Geiger and more.
I think Pritt seems really cool and down to earth and I find her very inspiring as a performing musician myself.

Daily Log 7/4/22
So quite a laidback, unproductive and productive day today. I know confusing. But yeah my mood was never consistent in a day.
Blogging and actually doing like a blog post about how my day went makes me realize, the days passing. It happens quite fast. A day was never fast when I was younger. Waiting for an hour to pass was already an agony. Well, I am older now. Time really does pass fast.
So today is a laidback back day, because I like spent it reading mangas again, or just watching random videos on either TikTok or youtube. I didn't even realize that the day is almost done.
As you know, I am expecting the book today, and it did arrived safely. I covered it in plastic cover and went through the pages for a bit. I was quite surprised with the way the book was written. Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower was narrated in like a letter style, which reminded me of my long time book, Elisabeth Robinson's The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters.
Other than the book something also visited me today. I had my monthly visit. No pads at home so mommy literally rode the tricycle driven by daddy to the sari-sari store just to buy one. Mommy have a hard time walking now, so even if the store was like a few steps away she had to be driven there. Grandparents are really our savior sometimes. I might be irritated with them sometimes, but at the end of the day I feel sorry and ashamed of such emotions. I would want them to see me graduate college, since I know they would do anything for me. I will always be grateful.
Today is Christal's first day of class. We chatted a bit earlier about what happened. Angel is also taking her finals exams today. We are currently on a video call while I am typing this. Good luck to the both of them.
I actually racked out the literary folios and magazines from MLUC Voice I got when I once went to the office. I haven't been back since. lol. Sorry. Been reading the literary folios, well I hope it could bring back the flare of writing in me.
Anyways, I was supposed to go to Sta. Cruz tomorrow, to bring some pizza, unluckily, it is currently unavailable. So yeah, I'm not going. Mom did asked me to help her print some documents. She also said, we should finish now, so she could give me the guap.
That was quite long, that's it. PEACE!
XOXO

IDEA 1
In the beginning I chose to make a magazine to visually convey my narrative. I planned to interview other second and third generation British Caribbean’s to collectively create a magazine that would resonate and showcase the livelihood of the British Caribbean community that I would consider hidden in plain sight.
From my perspective, a magazine for the youth seemed a bit risky as magazines aren’t necessarily what I would consider that popular amongst generation.
So I felt it was best if I did some research on the few magazines that are currently receiving a lot of engagement amongst the youth of today.
When conducting my research found most popular magazines are in the formate of an e-magazine, marketed via Instagram or other social media platforms which is where most of the younger generations interact.
During this stage I hadn’t scaled the key details that I needed to understand my audience demographic such as age, location, occupation, etc.
Initially, in my mind as a third generation, I was looking to engage with an audience of second and third generation individuals who were a part of gen Z to read my magazine.
Magazines that I looked to for inspiration in terms of marketing and layout were Gal-Dem Magazine and Guap Magazine.

12/03/24: Narrative Research Task -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From researching topics regarding my narrative, I have been able to link imagery to important topics and events that have happened.
I have also referenced magazines, photographers & stylists who specialise/produce work linking to the bridge between Uk culture and black british experiences. For example, photographers like dmochase, weaintboyz & toricascoe are emerging photographers that document these types of topics, such as living in the Uk as an ethnic minority. In addition, magazines such as GUAP, Vice & The Culture Crypt feature artists mentioned as well as others that produce similar types of work, spreading the experiences of individuals through imagery.
