24-year-old Grover was really showing this episode and I enjoyed it a lot. He's so matter-of-fact, which I find adorable. And I loved how reassuring he was to Percy and Annabeth when they were worried about leaving him. He's been through a lot, he can take care of himself, and he had a plan to get information out of Ares. He might seem skittish or nervous or just silly, but I really loved how we got to see the older side of Grover in this episode because he really is more capable than anyone gives him credit for.

also I love that Grover gets separated from the kids and immediately starts playing mind games with a god. he's like finally I don't have to be a good role model for a second. let's talk brutality.

my favourite thing about sally jackson is how she's stayed such a romantic her whole life despite what she's gone through and nobody talks about it. she sacrificed her years of school so that she could take care of her dying uncle. she was deserted by poseidon after having his kid. she sacrificed the next few decade or so of her life taking care of percy and was repeatedly abused and put down by gabe, all while struggling to become educated, even though gabe disapproved of it. majority of her life was wasted away for the sake of other men. but she put in the work, went to college and became an author who writes romance books. she supports and roots for percy and annabeth's love and is not strict on them at all. she started a new family. she reclaimed the part of her that was a dreamer and was young to pursue her dreams, even at an age where moms are usually expected to retire.

Grover was really out here finding and collecting Big Three kids like they were Pokémon. He really said, "gotta catch em all," and he did.

Omg I completely forgot that Grover has empath abilities! That puts a whole new angle on That Scene, 'cause like, he's not just doing normal psychoanalysing to figure out the perfect way to get an in with Ares, he's literally testing an angle and feeling Ares' emotions to gauge if it works or not. Genius.

Two things about episode 4

#1 We got grumpy didn't get enough sleep Grover and I cannot possibly relate more. I literally snap at everyone when I don't get at least 5 hours.

#2 We finally got to hear Grover moan about being hungry 😭🤣

spoilers for the pjo series/tv show

idk if people talk abt this but like

everyone annabeth loves always disappears (except for grover, we love grover) some come back, but for some amount of time, they’re all gone.

of course, this isn’t 100% true, but for the og series it def is

Her entire family leaves. technically, it was her that left, but same principle. her father stopped loving her. (yes ik that they start to rekindle their relationship but that isn’t the point)

luke and thalia, the ones who took her in, her family, they leave too. luke betrays her, almost brings the end of the world. thalia sacrifices herself for annabeth and luke and gets turned into a tree. she does come back, but she dies right in front of her.

this is true for both the tv show and the books, but specifically hoo.

athena leaves her too. in the tv show, she abandoned annabeth when she needs her most, when she’s depending on her, in the arch. the same is true in hoo. athena abandons her. it wasn’t 100% her fault in hoo, but still.

so imagine how she feels when percy disappears. the multiple times he sacrifices himself, when annabeth thinks he’s gonna die.

and in the lost hero/son of neptune? when he disappears for 9 MONTHS??? that must’ve been devastating. finally they get a happy ending, finally they can be happy, and then they’re robbed of it. her love, the one who’s never truly abandoned her, disappears. for a LONG time.

Grover having a conversation with the pegasus

The candy Annabeth goes to grab from the gas station isn't real in our world... meaning that the viewer is just as unfamiliar with it as she is

Percy's bed is the only bed in cabin 3 (and there were probably no beds in that cabin until he was claimed)

Medusa's dress makes her look like a marble statue

Grover, who is theoretically Percy's best friend, calls Sally "the only person who ever really cared about [Percy]." Self loathing? Guilt? A simple acknowledgment that he only came into Percy's life less than a year ago? Awareness of how much he's lied to Percy? SO much to unpack in one sentence.

Both Annabeth and Percy's opinions of Medusa can be summed up as "I believe everything my mother says about her."
