Happy 25th Anniversary to The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland!

cant help but wonder how much of oscar the grouch's life is performative. like does he choose to go to abercrumbie & filth to buy a special yucky jacket for grouches due to his nature or is he just doing what he believes is expected of him as a grouch. does he live in a trashcan because it truly suits him best or is it because thats the box society created for him

Elmo in Grouchland is so frustrating to me because I genuinely don't understand why the entire movie is about him learning that not wanting other people to touch his blanket makes him selfish.

Elmo makes it clear how special his blanket is to him, and how he doesn't want Zoe to touch it. She repeatedly ignores his boundaries, which ends in it getting ripped and lost in Grouchland.

Throughout the movie, he's told by adults that he's being selfish, and that it's important to share with friends. He is the one that apologizes to Zoe. But what is that teaching kids? No means yes? You are entitled to other people's things? That doesn't seem right.

(Edit: I also want to add that I’m pretty sure the Elmo begins to talk in first person when he’s angry throughout the movie, which should be a warning sign to the adults about how important his blanket is to him)

One of my favorite scenes from Elmo in Grouchland (though I have a lot!). I love the part around 1:30 when Elmo starts going bug-nuts while he dances. 😁
