Teachers' day: Reflecting on past experiences
Ishrat Tabassum Khan,
A Special Educator,
Motivational Speaker and a National UN Volunteer. HYDERABAD
Happy Teacher's Day to All the Teachers
I started my journey in my professional career as a mother teacher of pre-primary, it was a beautiful experience.
Playing the role of a teacher is like a gardener, who's helping the flowers bloom. As a teacher I felt the responsibility to help children shape their future and help them become their best version of themselves. I felt like it's our responsibility to focus and work on the Social, Emotional and Mental abilities of a child.
We should work on their fine and grossmotors and The Learning should be in a playful method, so that the kids should enjoy the learning process.
Experiencing education in a playful method will help them remember things for lifetime.
A teacher should understand the responsibility that every child is important. It's important for us to acknowledge about children's thoughts, perspective, and to understand their understanding level of perception, and to make it easier their way to make them understand.
"A teacher's motto should be to make students a responsible citizen." - ITK quotes.

One physical therapy activity can work on coordination, motor planning, range of motion, endurance, strength and balance. Another important goal for children is to build confidence and foster joy in personal accomplishments. Children who are confident in their skills will be more willing and able to participate in gross motor activities with peers. And isn’t play what childhood is all about? #shenandoahsoundstart #grossmotor #playwithpurpose #pediatricPT #motorplanning #kidsexercise #Teletherapy #physicaltherapy #kidsPT #balance #exerciseforkids #developmentalexercises #winchesterkidsPT #telehealthPT #learnthroughplay #winchester #pediatrictherapy #PT #pediatrictherapy #ptvirginia #pediatricphysicaltherapy #soundstart (at Shenandoah SOUNDstart, LLC) https://www.instagram.com/p/CD5KareB2vs/?igshid=1movw11b7pth7

Clear Sky, 10°C

Remeney woke early and did puzzles in the guest room. Daddy got her ready and she watched Puss in Boots. While I changed her bedding she read The Wind in the Willows to herself. She used words like 'plunged into the river' and some other great vocab (which of course she stopped doing as soon as I tried to record her!). She opened her lockdown basket and chose something different this time and was happy to find it was a Lego super hero colouring book. She was super excited. She coloured Martian Manhunter really neatly - the most colouring she has done in absolutely ages and then went on to Aquaman. All in green both of them 😂. She kept coming in and out while I was training. She showed me her colouring in her den and Vikki called. She loved chatting to her and showing her colouring and Ava too. We then did our Numberblocks activity. We watched Numberblocks 'The Whole of Me'. The activity was to draw around each Numberblock 1-6 and then break them in as many different ways as possible and draw around those before discussing the number sentence. She got upset initially as she didn't like her drawing around 2 and felt it had all gone wrong so we needed a chat about perfection. After that she absolutely loved this. Nothing was perfect but it was great learning. She wanted to write the number sentences herself and I was worried she would get frustrated with herself but she didn't. A few times she accidentally did an add instead of a 1 and her 5s and 2s look the same but she knew what she was writing and she was able to reflect what she had drawn. Even with number 6 she was able to find all the ways of making it. She wasn't methodical but when she had foind 1+5 and 3 +3 she knew the next time she needed to break off 2 without promoting. She had initially wanted to do more numbers she was enjoying it so much but by the time she had finished 6 she was ready to finish. We watched some Matilda songs (at the end of Naughty the girls pose crouching and Remeney declared 'that's where I got that from!' 😂) before I showered and we went in the garden. She wanted to play schools which consisted of taking the scooter to the steps, climbing on the wall to go in the lift then designated seating where she stood instead of sat but I had to sit. We then had to do 'exercises' (a variety of poses) before it was time for play time (either running, what's the time Mr Wolf - inspired no doubt by Vikki mentioning it - or playing on Kit) then home home time where she moved a food rock and it was time for school again! After a picnic lunch (during which she asked for stories about Harley Quinn and Catwoman - made up!) we played Puss in Boots and Dolca Nayer(?) going on the badger to the woods, Scotland and then New Zealand to find certain characters. We then did some water colour painting of grass. Remeney first said it was all green so we looked at different blades of grass to see the different colours. She then went to town painting every colour Inc purple for the seeds which were indeed purple. She then played independently in the mud kitchen while I did some planting. We played with her sticks making a camp fire and singing some campfire songs. When Ian came out she did some making tea and they went on his bike together (and she had a go on her balance bike too - she was obviously disappointed not to be able to ride it as easily as she had hoped on the grass) while I was digging before she returned to mud kitchen play. She was eager to go in her box and wanted to be shut in (enclosures schema I think - same as love of dens) and wanted me to set the stepping stones so she could climb into it. She also painted herself some 'tattoos'. We had dinner and then called Nanny and Bubba. Remeney was eager to take them into her den where I think they read to her. She went up and had a bath with Daddy before we read some of her nazes book and finished the big nursery rhymes book.

Exploring water with our table top easel. One side we had chalk and water painting. The other side we were using our dried up markers for water color after dipping in water to hydrate them. Play Therapy for Children with Autism | Best Centre for Autism in Bangalore | CAPAAR
Best Centre for Autism in Bangalore | CAPAAR. The development of children in all spheres of life is essential. One of the most crucial elements for helping children develop their skills is through playful activities. It’s back-to-school time! Whether your child is going to be distance learning, attending traditional school, or doing a hybrid version of both, they will surely be sitting for a good portion of their day. For kids with low muscle tone, balance concerns or core weakness, sitting still can be a difficult task, and can affect their ability to learn. To give your child a heads up on the school year, try this fun activity to help promote sitting balance, core strength and crossing midline. Any stickers and ball will do! If you have concerns about your child’s balance, strength or development, Shenandoah SOUNDstart can help! Teletherapy evaluations and treatment sessions are available. #shenandoahsoundstart #grossmotor #playwithpurpose #pediatricPT #motorplanning #kidsexercise #Teletherapy #physicaltherapy #lowtone #kidsPT #balance #exerciseforkids #developmentalexercises #winchesterkidsPT #telehealthPT #learnthroughplay #winchester #pediatrictherapy #PT #soundstart #corestrength #bettersitting (at Shenandoah SOUNDstart, LLC) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDz-W6yhZWr/?igshid=16ntn74r9q84r

Day Two: Physical Activity
Make a cardboard hopscotch for a fun indoor activity that your little ones can burn off some energy while being stuck inside when the weather isn’t the best outside.
This can also be done outside in the garden depending on if the weather is nice, otherwise the cardboard will become soggy although if the sun is shining and you’d like to create an easy hopscotch then colourful chalk is always my favourite.
This cardboard hopscotch gives kids the perfect excuse to hop and jump and move around when there cooped up inside. It’s also a good form of recycling old materials and creating homemade rescources will also save you some pennies.
Supplies:
-Cardboard ( large cereal boxes and old pizza boxes are ideal, these are easy to get hold of and are more than likely already in your household)
-Scissors ( please use under adult supervision or assistance)
- Pencil
-Paint or Crayons
-Paintbrushes (this depends if your painting or not)
The things you need to follow to create your hopscotch is figuring out the design you want to go for your numbers and how many you want to do. The amount of numbers you decide to include may depend on how old the child/children are.
Once you have made this decision you can draw your numbers onto the cardboard squares and then decorate them!
If your not confident in writing out bubble style numbers then there are number templates available for you online to use.
Arrange your squares on the floor and get hopping!
Letting your child/children rearrange the hopscotch is a great way to work on counting skills and number recognition.
If your going to try this on wooden flooring make sure you test to see how slippery it is first!
You can always run a few lines of puffy paint along the back of the squares if your concerned about the cardboard sliding.
Don’t forget the beanbag or your “hopscotch stones” if you don’t have beanbags then you can use a soft teddy or a pebble from the garden.
And that my friends, is all there is to know how to create your own indoor cardboard hopscotch for your toddlers and pre-schoolers.
Happy Hopping 🐰

Books are the latest "please give mama 20 more minutes" silver bullet. Unlike early days when she'd stare at the pictures, A is currently more interested in the book as I jest and how she can interact with it using all parts of her body. It's really more like gymnastics or wrestling than it is reading. I usually set out smaller books (especially if busy) but every once in a while we see how these moves translate to books as big as we are. #agnesinvestigates #booksasobjects #grossmotor #reggiobaby #artistresidencyinmotherhood

Balance Beam - I arranged and stacked some foam playmats on the floor for Antonio Luis to walk on and cross. He started to walk outside the beam with my help then eventually improved and walked on his own. I handed him a ball to shoot in the bin for an added challenge. This improves his balance and ability to walk. #grossmotor https://www.instagram.com/p/B2P6Po0gIGK/?igshid=qnthy580tnp3
