Forty Days of Frankenstein, Day Twenty-Six: There are several different schools of design when it comes to Frankenstein imagery.  This one definitely belongs to what I’ve heard called the “Gross Up Close Up,”  the roots of which go back to the works of artists Basil Wolverton (1909-1978) and Ed “Big Daddy” Roth (1932-2001).  This is box art for a toy, designed by Japanese manga artist Hideshi Hino and released in 2001.  Far from being the cool, elegant Silent Screamer Frankenstein action figure released by Mezco the same year, this thing is a more of a crazy doll, called “Franzen,” sculpted in soft vinyl, and released in three different variants.  Not really my cup of tea but by 2001 a very valid interpretation of the Frankenstein meme.  I will also say that the “metallic” variant is, by me, the coolest one.  As I’ve said before, I don’t really collect Frankenstein toys, but if I were 13 years old again, I would want one of these:

Soooo late on this but I love how much robby and sam genuinely like demetri and enjoy being friends with him in s2??? like they're all hanging out outside of miyagi-do, they find his neuroticisms funny but they're not laughing at him? They're not just tolerating his company and rolling their eyes when he says something nerdy or complains you can tell they genuinely like being around him they really do just like him as he is and don't make him feel like he has to change I just ughhhhhh

So it was established in the last episode that Taylor still believes in Santa (tbh I wouldn't be surprised if it's come up prior to this ep too but anyways-) so... Do you think (saint) Nicky been has portalling in every year since the betrayal to sneak in a gift for his son amongst the pile? That Cassandra doesn't even notice because it's just one among the many many presents she herself has bought and wrapped? But every year without fail... Taylor gets one gift that simply says "from: Nick" and well, obviously that has to mean it's from Santa (a conclusion which Nicky expects him to come to, and why he can sign his name at all, though he misses when he could just write "dad"). And one year when he's still quite young, a sleepy little Taylor actually catches Nicky in the act, and Nicky wishes more than anything that he could just *stay*, but instead he only softly tells Taylor to go back to bed, and Taylor thinks that Santa is a lot younger and a bit sadder than he expected, but what's he gonna do- not listen to Santa Claus? So he smiles meekly at the man he does not know to be his father, and hurriedly heads back to his room.

Also yes of course Nicky eats the fucking cookies left out of course he's not gonna pass up on free cookies (which are home-baked to top it off) come on that's a given.

i loved that taylor was very touched by the pictures of marjorie being held up and she was very very cute about it with her little speech but at the end of the day...it could have easily gone the other way? the people who did that just did it hoping they could make viral content out of it, without even stopping to consider why it crossed a boundary...just very weird vibes around it all, people are so desensitized

Forty Days of Frankenstein, Day Thirty-Two: Here’s another example of the art/animation style known as the “Gross Up Close Up,” a la Basil Wolverton, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, and while we’re at it, Ren and Stimpy cartoons.  This is two frame grabs from an entertaining animated short called “Blenderstein” which was animator Zach Bellissimo’s thesis film at the School of Visual Arts back in 2011.  The Monster’s name is Oogle, and he’s been created by Dr. Frappe, a super-intelligent monkey scientist.  His brain is a blender (hence the title).  To tell anymore would be to spoil the fun.  If you can handle the art style, you should give it a watch.  It’s available on YouTube.

I heard that andrew garfield’s spiderman is closest to the Ultimate Spider-Man comics so im trying to read them but GOD the art style is so fucking ugly 😭😭

the badly drawn faces make it genuinely difficult to interpret the mood of the scenes and their characterization. like what the fuck is that last face. how am i supposed to interpret that other than that he had a fucking stroke

The way people are becoming anti-children nowadays is really sad. And I'm not talking about people not wanting to have kids of their own, that's fine and something that shouldn't be shamed nor up to someone else to debate. No, I'm talking about the people who adamantly hate these little humans for simply existing, wanting to ban them from spaces due to them having emotional reactions that they are still learning to understand (you know, the kind of lessons that everyone had to learn and figure out at one point). It's gotten to the point where I've even seen these types of people genuinely support children being harmed and deny their hurt under the consensus of "Well then maybe they shouldn't be there," in your average public space. Like, imagine thinking hating on children, people who need assistance and guidance, is something to be proud of.
