10/10 love this song, loved it since it came out. this is EXACTLY what i have needed.

2. Heartbreak Feels So Good

i know this song came out before the album, but i never got around to listening to it. so this is my first time hearing it.

it was pretty good song for the most part. the lyrics are a little meh, but i do like the "heartbreak feels so GOOD" part. vocals on point as usual. kinda zoned out at one point lol

3. Hold Me Like a Grudge

omg… i love this??? so fucking much????????

it has such a good bassline, such a good song to groove to. i think patrick's vocals get a little bit lost in the music, but it still sounds really good. i love the lyrics. i wasn't sure what to expect with this song but i genuinely loved it the entire time i listened to it.

4. Fake Out

heard the first chords of this song and i was like 'oh, this is gonna be a sad one' and i was right.

the lyrics are such a gut punch. if you're someone like me who kinda lives in fantasy and daydreams to get by, this song hurts a lot. this song reminds me of a lot of a paramore's song - super upbeat but lyrically melancoly. i love it and it almost made me cry.

correction, i was looking over the lyrics for one i liked the most, and i started crying. so… thanks fob.

5. Heaven, Iowa

in the first half of the song, i was like ehh, idk. it was reading like a phil collins song or just like pure 80s, and i was kinda on the fence about it.

but the chorus. omg the chorus. patrick…. THEM VOCALS. seriously he is so good.

i like the lyrics a lot. the ending was fantasic.

6. So Good Right Now

love the general vibe of this song - upbeat but everything crashing and burning around me. that's me everyday lol

i think the lyrics are so personal in this song. i think we can all relate to changing ourselves for someone else, especially when we love them and want to be with them as long as possible.

song was super fast, kinda wish it never ended lol

not really a song, but it was very pretty.

fob is really coming for my neck rn dear lord.

as i've kinda mentioned on here before, my ex best friend of 10 years decided to randomly end our friendship and subsequently i lost all of our friends in common, and it's been a bit of roller coaster emotionally. and these lyrics…. fuck me, they are just connecting with me so much.

10. Baby Annihilation

first off love that the previous song blended into this one. always a fave of mine when songs on albums do that.

interesting, another poem/monologue on the album. love when pete does his whole speech at the end of a song, but making this it's own is fun.

11. The Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years)

again, they're trying to make me hurt, that's all i will accept at this point.

this feels like such a nostaligic song, too. god. didn't think this would be the third song on fob's album i would be crying to, but here i am.

never thought i would full on CACKLE at a fob, but oh my god???!?!??!?!?!?!

this reminded me so much of marianas trench and how they will make the final song on their albums an accomulation of all the other songs on the album. and i really love that for fob.

this song is such a sad ending, but also not?? like it just feels like almost admitting you were upset all this time, and now you're left with what to do with finally telling everyone how you felt.

seriously so good. vocally, i mean… cmon.

Favorite Lyric: I used to be a real go-getter / I used to think it'd all get better

OVERALL: this is seriously one of fob's best albums to date. it isn't the same as anything else they've released, and it's so much more mature than previous album. musically, it has a lot of similarities to past projects, but i think it takes on a life of it's own and is unique amongst all of their other works. a lot more groovy than i ever expected them to sound like. lyrically, gut punching. thanks for making me cry three times. wish i could see you guys in concert but yall REFUSE to come to philly. and coming to camden does not count !!

...well, that's quite a long title and list of tags! but not to worry, this post will be over in a flash compared to some of my other Super Long Posts. however!!! there are indeed reasons why there's so many games listed in here, and that's because i was going to be arcade and mobile rhythm gaming for... the entire day!!! there was, of course, the usual weekly gekichumai gaming you've likely seen here before, but -- in addition to that -- there was a DDR tournament being hosted at Round 1 in celebration of the host's birthday, and i've been training + grinding to attend this very moment!!! the tourney was at 11 am, a time i was usually asleep or slogging through, so i had to sleep and wake up earlier than usual... and since 11 AM was the time to perform the qualifiers and be seeded, i needed to arrive even earlier if i wanted to get some practice in, and finding a golden opportunity with my mom heading to the mall at the same time, i got everything ready for the big tourney and set off!!

now, one's first instinct with a DDR tourney might be to practice via playing DDR or, well, any dance game for that matter . and sure, maybe i should've done that as well . but instead, i really wanted to scratch a IIDX itch and also get some timing practice in as this tournament would focus almost entirely on EX score and the super tight +/-16.7ms timing windows, so that's what i played for my first hour of being there!!! of the two sets i played, i actually got some neat scores out of them! the first set consisted of a sightread EC on the new Oshi no Ko song (Warera kanzen muteki no idol!! SPA-10) and a sightread NC on take me higher [SPA-10] . but as for the second set? a super impressive warm-up conclusion indeed!!! a sightread AA (and AAA-93!!!) on EMOTiON TRiPPER [SPA-10], a slight upscore on Shakunetsu Lost Summer Dayz [SPH-10], and to end it off with the best score of them all.... an EC on Digitank System [SPA-11] as 11 EC #5!!!!!!!!! we out here scratchin!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, wouldya look at the time!! in just two sets, it was already time for the tourney's qualifying phase to begin, and i was PUMPED . i met up with a friend there who was mostly just participating in the tourney for shits and giggles, and after the rules were announced we got straight to watching the qualifiers in preparation to perform them!!! while we did record videos of each other, i personally don't think they're any good... but the scores were, and i walked away pretty content with my performance on each song!!! (afronova was Ehh, but my massive 61p 1g EX upscore on Jungle Dance? insane...)

so then!!! qualifiers were done, and now it was time to wait for seeding to see when i'd get to play and what levels i'd get to pick from. and then once seeding did come out, i was placed in pool 7 of 11 -- super high up, and a ton of time to wait until my pool round actually began (since this was waterfall format)!! so to pass the time... i went on a miscellaneous rhythm game marathon, playing pretty much everything!!! soooo this is where all the other rhythm games go, as fun as it'd be to see them all get their fair share of action... it was all just a hoax to pass the time before my tourney round . could've been more too, but i opted to go eat instead as all i'd eaten prior to the tourney were a few cookies...

but finally, after several hours of waiting and watching the pools come and go, it was my turn in the spotlight!!! i had some evil picks up my sleeve for this round, and i wouldn't let them go to waste!! so of the songs picked, the only one i really needed to practice was Spanish Snowy Dance [ESP-15] in my first pool as i hadn't played the song in ages, but despite my humiliating performance on the chart -- i pushed through and managed to move up a pool!!! however, there was one thing dead set on stopping my journey through pools, and it was unfortunately the pad issues i faced with my first pool in particular . on the second song out of nowhere (my pick), i was having horrendous issues with the left arrow of my side as it was constantly getting stuck and ruining my inputs where i would otherwise get either marvelous or perfect . it was super frustrating to deal with, and i was afraid it'd be the thing that knocked me out of the tourney, but a saving grace came at the very last moment in the form of switching pads with the player on the other cab... and that was just what i needed to clutch out 2nd place in the pool and advance to the next, where i got the two scores below as the 2nd and 3rd songs of the set respectively!!! unfortunately, i kinda ate shit in the 1st and 4th songs (Cytokinesis ESP-14 and Fascination MAXX ESP-17 respectively) and thus concluded the tournament at a 3rd place in the pool(?) and 9th place overall... but out of 24 participants? that was an impressive performance, i'm proud of it!!! my good awesome buddy made it to the next pool in my place and slayed pretty hard, but he was unfortunately eliminated by all the gimmicky difficult charts played in that set... still, what an amazing overall showing!!! here's to the next local tournament!!!

now, for the second half of the session today!!! that DDR tourney took way longer than expected, and so when i arrived for the gekichumai half of the session, there were only 4 hours on the clock to get any sets in . but that wasn't gonna stop me, as i was gonna dive straight into this session with a dream and a strive for rhythm gaming!!! ...albeit, a very tired one from all the DDR earlier . started off with some Groove Coaster, finally bringing my NESiCA card and working my way up the difficulty unlocks with S ranks on a 10 first, and then an S rank on Dramaturgy [Hard Lv.11]! (would really like to FC this now that i know where all the ad-libs are, though...) . following this were frequent bursts of maimai as i had the chance to play, and while they weren't all banger scores, i still had a ton of fun playing with solo players and my best bud RonDX alike!!!

between maimai sets when chunithm was either busy or unappealing, i busted out Ye Old Phone to play some arcaea and use up my stamina!!! it was unfortunately impossible to get any new PMs in such a loud and crowded place, but i made do with my wireless headphones and got some insane scores on uppers... like this massive 993 on Vicious [ANTi] Heroism [BYD-11] and a 997 on Cyaegha [FTR-10+]!!! thank lowiro for the CC changes to all the 11s... (except grievous and fray ofc)

and now, to end off the write-up and the scores for today: CHUNITHM!!!! many of the songs played here were suggestions from mutuals and friends on twitter, but i also did stop for a little funky play on Kumo no ito (Spider's Thread) [Master Lv.15] with a friend i first met through a project sekai server!!! there's a few other chuni scores that i'm unfortunately not able to include here due to the 30-image limit, so i'll likely include them in the next post as bonuses!! for now though, these were by far the most impressive scores of the session before it came to a halt :] but i'll be back next time with even more gaming!!! so much more gaming it won't be able to fit in two posts, perhaps...

Marin watched as Ned hesitantly turned over his phone to the lady waiting outside the auditorium, and she felt a pang of sympathy for him. Peter had yet to show up from his tryst from the previous night, and both her and Ned were growing increasingly worried. Marin was equally angry that he was going to miss the competition and nervous that something had happened to him. For all of the grief she gave him, Marin knew that Peter was truly loyal to his friends, and wouldn't have missed the competition if he could've helped it.

The beginning of the competition had gone by quickly—hours of Marin sitting backstage, waiting for the science portion of the event, chewing anxiously on her thumbnail and pacing incessantly.

Eventually, Marin was brought onstage for the science questions.

"What is the relation of the speed of the fluid flowing out of an orifice to the height of the fluid above the opening?" The moderator asked.

Marin pressed her buzzer immediately. "Torricelli's theorem." She squeaked out, relaxing when the moderator confirmed the correct answer. The team gave her pats on her back, and Michelle even nodded approvingly with a tilted smile.

Marin was only able to answer a few more questions, and time had blurred together as they approached their final questions. The teams were tied—the moderator announced they had entered sudden death. Marin was so nervous, her head swimming with restless nerves that she didn't register the question that was asked.

But then Michelle pressed her buzzer, and Marin sucked in a breath. "Midtown Tech?"

Michelle looked bored. "Zero."

"That is correct!"

The team erupted with cheers. Marin was the first to wrap Michelle in a hug, with Ned following. Michelle, she could tell, seemed unfazed by the victory, but smiled at their reactions nonetheless. Flash jumped out of his seat and ran across the length of the stage, whooping and hollering with delight.

"Midtown takes the championship!"

It was Liz's idea to celebrate their triumph by going up in the Washington Monument. Marin was giddy with an adrenaline rush and she figured that all things considered, she would be able to handle the heights.

"Told you we didn't need Peter!" Flash was saying, waving around the championship trophy.

"Flash, you didn't answer a single question." Ned pointed out with a funny look on his face, causing Marin to snort rather embarrassingly.

Inside the lobby of the monument, while they waited to go through security, Ned pulled out his phone and dialed Peter's number. "Peter! Are you okay?" Ned whispered.

"He picked up?" Marin whisper-yelled at him, reaching for the phone.

"Don't worry, it's safe; it's in my backpack!" Ned responded, holding the phone firmly to his face so Marin couldn't grab it. He set his backpack on the conveyor belt, and while he was distracted, Marin nabbed the phone.

"Peter! Peter, what the hell—"

"—the glowy thing is dangerous!" Peter was yelling. Marin's eyes widened dramatically as she whipped around at Ned.

"'Glowy thing'?!" Marin hissed, staring daggers at Ned. "You brought it with you?!"

Marin could still hear Peter shouting when the phone was snatched out of her hands by Liz. "Peter, is that you?" She ranted at him. "You flake! You are so lucky we won. You know, I want to be mad, but I'm more worried. Like, what is going on with you?"

"Miss, all items on the belt, please." A security guard interrupted Liz, who nodded and place the phone on the conveyor belt without hanging up. Marin could only follow behind, as one-by-one, the team passed through the metal detectors and retrieved their belongings. By the time Marin had passed and reached Ned, the call was disconnected and Ned was tucking his phone into his jacket's pocket.

"What did he say?" Marin said mutedly to Ned.

"Call was already ended when I picked the phone up." He shrugged, as a tour guide corralled the Midtown team into the elevator. Flash, still holding the trophy, asked Mr. Harrington as the doors to the elevator slid shut: "Hey, Mr. Harrington, can I be the one to tell Peter he's expelled?"

Marin rolled her eyes and the elevator ascended with a jolt.

Marin wasn't paying attention as the female tour guide monotonously recited facts about the obelisk. At one point, Mr. Harrington even tried to talk to her about his ex-wife, but Marin was too busy gnawing on her lower lip to notice. She was picking at her nail when a familiar magenta glowing light caught her eye.

"Ned—" she began to say, but suddenly the light grew violently brighter until it erupted, damaging the elevator shaft's framework. The car screeched to a jerking stop.

The car rapidly filled up with smoke, briefly obscuring Marin's vision, but Ned was close enough to her for her to see him drop his bag in a panic. "Oh god," she muttered to herself. The Chitauri core detonated much like a bomb—the electromagnetic waves from the x-ray machine must've set it off. And now, they were trapped in an unstable elevator box, some five-hundred feet in the air, with a bomb. Marin just hoped it wouldn't go off again.

"Oh, my god, look at the ceiling," Flash said, voice trembling. Sure enough, a glowing ring of red had burned through the roof of the elevator.

"Just stay calm, everyone." Liz tried to soothe.

Abe whined, "Oh, we are all going to die here."

Ned looked at Marin, visibly panicked. "Can you do anything?" He whispered in her ear.

Marin reached to her side, where her water bottle would be—but it wasn't there. Then she remembered she'd left it on her nightstand, figuring that she wouldn't have needed it, as she assumed they would have provided bottles of water at the competition if she ever got thirsty. She didn't even consider the possibility that she'd need to use her powers. "Shit," she cursed weakly. "I don't have my water." Ned clutched his head.

"We're freaking screwed." Charles lamented.

"Okay guys, I know that was scary, but our safety systems are working." The tour guide attempted to calm the group down, but someone started coughing, sending the rest of them on edge. "We're very safe here."

Marin knew it was a lie—they all did. As the seconds passed, the sounds of metal creaking were beginning to be heard. Marin could've tried to siphon water from the bodies around her, but it required a lot of energy that Marin didn't have. The altitude was making her dizzy, and she knew that even if she managed to gather enough water, her energy would deplete too quickly for her to do anything with it, and she'd been rendered not only useless but an unconscious burden.

The groaning of the framework deepened as the passengers moved about. Debris pinged against the roof of the car, and the tour guide had Mr. Harrington hoist her up to the hatch in the ceiling. Marin could barely make out the sight of park rangers opening the shaft's glass panels. Cindy was the first to be lifted through the hatch, and Marin could hear cords snapping. She grabbed Ned's arm.

Sally was next, then Charles, then Abe. Marin heard the distant sounds of helicopters. "Okay, who's next?" Mr. Harrington motioned to Liz.

She moved to grab his shoulder, but Flash shoved her out of the way, still clutching the goddamn trophy like a lifeline. "Me! It's my turn!" He cried, hoisting himself on Mr. Harrington's shoulders.

"Flash, seriously? What are you doing?!" Ned scolded, as Liz scoffed indignantly and Marin frowned at the boy's cowardly actions.

He was barely outside the hatch when the elevator shook violently, throwing everyone into a panic.

Flash thrust the trophy into the outstretched hands of the park rangers. "Take my trophy!" He moved to stand on the roof, and the car shook again, dropping a couple of inches.

"This is your last chance!" Marin vaguely heard the police cry from outside.

Flash had just been lifted out of the shaft when there was one last vicious groan of metal, the roof of the elevator ripping off and sending the car into a free-fall.

Screaming was all Marin could hear as she clutched the railing with one hand and Ned's arm with the other until the car came to an abrupt stop. Looking up, Marin saw a web connected to the outside of the car. She had only a moment to breath before she heard glass shattering and they were falling once more.

The car caught on something, and a figure crashed into the elevator as it halted. The momentum of the body hitting the floor caused the car to jolt and start falling again. Marin had never been on a roller coaster, but she absently assumed this was what it felt like—the swooping of her heart and the weight dropping her stomach into her feet.

Spider-Man aimed another web at the top of the shaft, bracing his feet on what remained of the broken metal roof, stopping the car yet again.

In the brief silence that ensued, Mr. Harrington, Ned, Liz, and Marin all stared at Spider-Man in a combination of shock, terror, and relief. Spider-Man cleared his throat roughly, adopting a thick New York accent. "Hey, how you doin'? Don't worry 'bout it, I gotchu." He began pulling the car up.

"Yes!" Ned cheered, pumping his fists and making the car wobble with his obvious excitement. "Yes!"

"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Big guy! Quit movin' around!"

"Sorry, sir. So sorry."

Marin noticed the exertion Peter was putting out, lifting the car up one hand after the other. A quick glance over at Liz showed that she was thoroughly confused, probably as to why the hell Spider-Man had shown up in D.C., of all places.

Suspense grew thickly as Marin watched the car approach the top of the shaft. The park rangers pried the doors to the elevator open and pulled Mr. Harrington and Ned through. "Alright, this is your stop," Peter quipped, but his voice was tight with tension. "Go, go, go! Everybody out! Move it, people—move it, move it!" Marin looked up, and saw the metal bend under Peter's feet, ready to snap any second. Reacting on instinct, Marin pushed Liz through the door and into the arms awaiting her to safety—just in time for the ceiling to collapse, and the car to drop under Marin's feet.

Marin screamed, reaching her arms to grab Peter's, but missing it just barely. "No!" Peter cried out, instantly grabbing her wrist with a web.

He held himself up with his feet grabbing at a web while pulling a dangling Marin up with his hands. It was a strange sensation, the web attached to her wrist—chilled and a bit slimy, but secure and steady nonetheless.

"You're okay, you're okay," Peter repeated in a chant, sounding genuinely distressed. He grasped her hand when he pulled her up enough, not letting go until she was safe on the observation deck.

Marin stared into Spider-Man's mask, hoping to tell him something—anything—but her heart twisted when she realized that he was instead staring at Liz, his bionic eyes widened. "Is everyone okay? Are you guys okay?"

He went silent as Liz nodded, seemingly in a weird trance as she returned Spider-Man's stare. "Yeah," Marin mumbled, but it went unnoticed.

Then, the web snapped, and Spider-Man fell down into the empty shaft. The spectators gasped and peered into the darkness to watch the hero plummet. "Thank you!" Mr. Harrington called down.

Flash pushed Marin to the side to lean over the mangled frame, still holding the freaking trophy, to yell, "Are you really friends with Peter Parker?!"

Initially, the team was supposed to stay in D.C. for another full day. But once everyone was brought to the ground with the help of many teams of policemen and firefighters, it was kind of a unanimous decision to head back to New York as soon as possible.

Once statements were made and their physical conditions were cleared by awaiting paramedics, Marin overheard a policewoman tell another that Spider-Man was nowhere to be found—he'd simply vanished. Before Marin could worry that he'd been injured (or worse), Peter had suddenly ran up to the group, claiming he'd gone for a walk early that morning and fell asleep in some park. No one really believed him, but everyone was still shaken up from the day, and they were more relieved to see that Peter was okay and unharmed.

Marin had gone to tackle Peter with a hug, but Liz had beat her to it. So that left Marin stopping short, feeling awkward and embarrassed, especially when she realized that Peter had barely even glanced her way, instead, fussing over Liz and her well-being. Marin had selfishly thought that she was the one who had really almost died, and Liz was perfectly okay and didn't need so much of Peter's attentions; but chastised herself immediately after, reminding herself that Peter had known Liza lot longer than he'd known Marin, and it was more likely that Peter would be more concerned for the older girl. It didn't make the sting of mild rejection any less painful, though.

But what surprised her most was Michelle coming to greet Marin with a swift hug, though she'd broken away almost immediately and acted as if she hadn't just expressed such relief. But Michelle's voice wobbled with concern, which was more than enough for Marin's eyes to well with tears.

Back on the bus, everyone sat close together, though no one really talked. Peter was with Ned, probably recounting the events that kept him away for the night, but Marin was too enervated to care. Whenever she closed her eyes, she was haunted with horrifying memories of the floor dropping out from underneath her and plagued with feelings of lingering helplessness. So she asked Michelle if she had a spare book, and Michelle handed over her now-finished copy of Invitation to a Beheading wordlessly, pulling another book from her bag.

Her eyes blurred and she didn't register the words she read at all, but it gave her something to distract her mind with. Distract her from the burning feeling in her chest whenever she let her thoughts run aimlessly.

It was dark outside when they reached the high school. The team scrambled off the bus to find their families.

Marin was the last to descend the steps, watching as her new friends embraced their parents and siblings and loved ones with open sobs and declarations of love and concern. Peter was enveloped into May's awaiting arms as she cried with relief. The sights made Marin's heart ache.

What if he wasn't there? Marin thought to herself. What if Spider-Man hadn't shown up to save the day? She wondered that if her parents were still alive, would they be just as happy to see her safe and sound? The hole in her chest where she normally felt empowered made her begin to believe otherwise.

Her wandering mind was interrupted when she felt a pair of arms wrap around her. It was May, with one arm around her shoulders and the other tilted up, with her hand tenderly cradling the back of Marin's head. Marin returned the hug and began to cry.

Back at the apartment, May made the teens hot chocolate and microwaved dozens of pizza rolls. They ate in silence, no one wanting to address the day's events. They were just fine with being in each other's presence.

Eventually, once all the food was gone and their mugs were drained, May retired to bed, kissing each of them on the temple, and wishing them a good night.

"Can we talk?" Peter rasped once May had disappeared down the hall. Marin nodded, following him into his room.

They sat together on the lower bunk, and a moment of silence passed as Peter summoned the words he needed to say.

"I'm sorry." Peter finally spoke, his voice cracking slightly. "I'm sorry—about what I said last night, and for ditching you guys, and almost getting you killed—"

Marin twisted and pulled him into a hug. Peter wasn't crying, but he was trembling in her arms, and Marin felt a pang of guilt for not considering how scared he must've been. They had both endured falling from that height together, and he even had to climb up the outside of the monument just to reach them. Not to mention, he was still probably traumatized from plummeting into the lake, not a few nights before. She clutched him tighter, shushing him gently.

"It's okay, Peter." She whispered into his hair. "You showed up, you were there, and you saved us, okay?" She pulled back to look Peter in the eyes. They were glassy like he was holding back tears. "You saved me. And I'll always be grateful for that."

He nodded, sniffing lightly. They peeled themselves apart, taking a moment to compose themselves.

After a while, Marin asked, "Why didn't you tell me, though, Pete? Why didn't you tell me before you made the decision to go fight those guys by yourself?" Her voice was surprisingly steady. "Did you not... I don't know, not trust me, or something? Because I thought we were in this together." She didn't mean to sound so needy, but yet it did.

"We are in it together, Marin." Peter urged. "I just... I know you like Mr. Stark, too, but if I told you that I needed to hack into the suit to disable the tracker, I knew you'd—"

"You hacked into your suit?!" Marin exclaimed. "You fool! What if you messed with something important and got yourself killed?!" She scolded, smacking his arm.

"Hey!" He grabbed where she hit him defensively. "I knew you'd object! 's why I didn't tell you! And then, you got upset with me—understandably so—" he pointed out at her vexed glare. "—and I didn't want to force you."

Marin sighed after watching his reaction, placated. "Fair enough, webs." The corner of her lips tilted up in a crooked smile. "What else did you do to the suit, then?"

Peter laughed, looking excited. "So, it turns out my suit comes with my very own AI lady..."

Thor : Love And Thunder Review & Ending Explained : What's Happened ?

Thor: Love and Thunder is finally in theaters. We suspect that you have many questions about the ending of the latest Marvel movie . There are many plot threads left hanging from the Marvel Phase 4 project. Uncertain fates of some characters remain, and the film's ending scenes hint at the arrival of new heroes/gods. This suggests that there could be a Thor spinoff. The MCU's journey of the god of thunder may not be complete yet. After the credits roll, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), fans will have plenty to reflect on. Here's where we step in. We'll take you through Thor: Love and Thunder’s ending. This includes the fates and arrivals of certain characters. We will also discuss the characters that appear in the scenes between and after credits and speculate about what these could mean for the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe. contains spoilers for Thor, Love and Thunder. You haven't seen Thor: Love and Thunder yet? Thor Love And Thunder Review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dNwDob56aw Thor: Love And Thunder Review Thor: Love and Thunder looked certain to be a huge success. After 2017's highly entertaining Thor: Ragnarok and with Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian Avenger finding his comedy groove, director Taika Waititi returns to the helm. Natalie Portman makes her dramatic return to live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe after nine years. Surprisingly the 29th MCU movie, which arrives in theaters July 8, fails to meet expectations. Thor's fourth solo adventure, which tries to balance comedy and drama while combining multiple classic comic storylines in one narrative, feels too thin and shallow. The film opens promisingly with a dramatic introduction that introduces Christian Bale's evil Gorr the God Butcher. His daughter is killed in his desert home, and he meets a cruel god who drives him to launch a campaign to kill all divine beings. This sequence is calm and atmospheric, giving Bale time to perform and allowing us the opportunity to feel his confusion, despair and rage. The roller coaster begins when the Marvel Studios logo appears. Do you feel any emotional resonance? You're not getting emotional resonance in this movie. In Avengers: Endgame 2019, Thor was seen for the first time. He had decided to join Guardians of the Galaxy after Thanos' defeat. The God of Thunder outclasses all his new friends, rendering him look like a video game character. He crushes their enemies and renders the Guardians a little useless. A visually stunning, colorful action sequence is presented. However, Thor and his ally Korg (Waititi), soon decide to take their own path. They abandon the Guardians storyline, and waste Chris Pratt and Karen Gillan before the joke can develop. This movie seems to be eager to escape the pesky continuity to return to the Asgardian storyline from Thor's solo movies. Thor meets Jane Foster (Portman), his ex-girlfriend on Earth. She is fighting Gorr, an Asgardian who attacks Thor's fellow Asgardians. After being deemed worthy during her darkest hour, she's now wielding Mjolnir, an old hammer from which he gained similar powers. This storyline should be Love & Thunder's emotional heart, given Jane's very real human health issues. It doesn't take enough time to let the challenges Jane faces sink in. The movie is too eager to move on to the next adventure and it has some dramatic moments that are also ruined by the two post-credits scenes. This need for speed extends into the action -- Jane uses her new abilities in amazing ways but neither editing nor cinematography allow us to enjoy this. You won't be able to retain many of the shots in this movie the same way that moments from other MCU adventures will. Nothing can reach the heights of Captain America's elevator brawl or three Spider-Men launching into battle, Scarlet Witch's encounters with the Illuminati. Although Jane and Thor's awkwardness is at first quite funny, largely because of Portman's charismaticism and chemistry, it doesn't progress in a compelling way. It's easier to remember a joke about Thor and Stormbreaker than a one-liner, which quickly becomes tiresome. King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) rounds out the heroes team. She's bored playing the role of leader of New Asgard's magical tourist trap. Although the movie doesn't explore her ennui enough Thompson injects enough mischief into the character to make it a delight to watch. Her wardrobe choices are a hint of her fascinating inner life. The Phantom of the Opera shirt is more interesting than any superhero costume. Jane and Valkyrie have a peaceful conversation that is one of the best scenes in the film. It's rare for the movie to slow down and allow its writers and actors the space to connect emotionally. It's hard to ignore Hemsworth’s magnetic screen presence, comic timing, and imbecile comic timing. But one cannot help but wonder if the adventure would have been better without Thor. Gorr's threat is greatly diminished after his memorable introduction. As Thor continues his trail of divine slaughter, the comics counterpart to The God Butcher (introduced by Jason Aaron's 2012 Thor: God of Thunder) feels like a significant threat. Love and Thunder is merely a reference to this. It mainly reduces Gorr’s villainy to kidnapping Asgardian kids as part of an even grander plot. Gorr doesn't feel like a threat to the heroes and he feels more like Gorr, the God Botherer. Despite this, Bale's performance is outstanding and Bale's aesthetic choices give the character a lot of creepy spectral boogeyman vibes. This was evidently inspired by Aphex Twin’s disturbing Come to Daddy music videos. The MCU's midpoint confrontation with the heroes is one of the most striking sequences visually, thanks to its clever use of color and shadow. Although this movie isn’t as full of cameos as Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness (its immediate MCU predecessor), it does feature Russell Crowe as a narcissistic Zeus. His role is largely limited to one set piece, which proves to be largely insignificant as the main narrative moves on. Love and Thunder is not able to live up the amazing stories it was inspired by. It doesn't follow the director's direction and does not maximize its dramatic potential. Instead, it feels more like a superficial, unsatisfying mashup. Although it's still a funny, silly entry in MCU's canon, it's not the classic Thor adventure that its handsome hero thinks he's on. But to no avail. He is left with his daughter, who has died in his arms. But he hears a voice calling him and he meets his God at what appears to be the gate to the afterlife. Gorr tells Gorr how he has dedicated his life to worshiping God, but it soon becomes apparent that his devotion is futile. There will be no eternal glory. The Gorr is summoned by the Necrosword, which lies on the ground, to embrace its power and become the God Butcher. Thor (Chris Hemsworth), has now lost his "sad body" from Endgame, and is now going around the universe with the Guardians of the Galaxy. After Lady Sif's distress call, however, he quickly parted ways with the group. It turns out that Gods are being murdered all over the world. Thor sets out to find them and knows where a God-killer would be headed next: New Asgard. He returns to Earth where Jane Foster is now able to wield Mjolnir. Jane has been fighting Stage 4 cancer for years and her treatment is not working. Mjolnir's healing abilities are recognized by the astrophysicist and Jane heads to New Asguard to find out if she is worthy to be the Mighty Thor. Gorr attacks New Asgard, bringing his army of shadow creatures. However, he fails to kill Thor. Instead, he steals the Asgardian children from Asgard and imprisons them at the Shadow Realm. Thor, Heimdall's child, figures out Gorr’s plan and joins Valkyrie and Korg to form an army of Gods to defeat Gorr. The maniacal Zeus refuses help in Omnipotence City but does reveal that Gorr could be heading to Eternity. He could make a wish to kill all Gods there. This doesn't seem to phase Zeus. Thor fights the Gods of Lightning and appears to kill him. Zeus then steals his Lightning Bolt.��Only Korg's head survives. Jane confides in Thor on the journey that she is dying from cancer, and the two reconcile. The Shadow Realm is where the color drains from all things. Jane soon realizes that this is a trap. Gorr wants them there as the key to Eternity. This is done using Thor's Stormbreaker axe. Gorr seizes the weapon, Valkyrie and Jane are badly hurt in the crossfire. Jane is unable to function due to Mjolnir's draining of her energy. The Bifrost takes the trio back home to New Asguard. They decide that Thor must take on Gorr and they head to Eternity. Thor is able to transfer his powers onto the Asgardian kids, and they defeat the God Butcher as well as the shadow creatures. Jane comes to the rescue. Thor rescues Stormbreaker and sends the children home with the Bifrost. They destroy Gorr’s power source, the Necrosword. Gorr is able to get through the Eternity gate, however, because it is open. Jane and Thor follow him, and instead of fighting Gorr, they offer an alternative: Why kill all Gods when you could have his daughter back? Jane looks at Thor and tells the God Butcher that the young girl will have no one because he's dead. Gorr's daughter passes through the gate to Eternity. Gorr dies, Jane becomes stardust and Thor adopts her. They return to New Asguard where Lady Sif and King Valkyrie are training the children. Korg has found Dwayne, a boyfriend and Thor and his adopted child fight side-by-side. Their superhero names? Love and Thunder. But, wait! Enjoy these two scenes after-credits. The first shows that Zeus is still living and wants people to fear Gods again. Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein plays Hercules. The second scene after credits takes us to Valhalla, where Jane is welcomed into eternal paradise by Heimdall's Idris Elba. Is Jane Foster actually dead? Is The Mighty Thor still alive? Jane Foster's disease is the most tragic story in Thor: Love and Thunder. We learn early in the movie that Thor's beloved scientist and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster has been diagnosed as having Stage 4 cancer. Darcy Lewis is her doctor, and she's currently undergoing treatment. But nothing seems to be working. It seems like Mjolnir might be her salvation, but then it becomes apparent that it is actually draining her energy to fight the disease, echoing the Mighty Thor storyline. Jane decides to become the Mighty Thor one last time at the end of the movie. After helping Thor bring the Asgardian children home she becomes the God of Thunder. Her body is disintegrated into dust after she tells Thor that her love for him. This is similar to Odin's death in Thor: Ragnarok. After the credits, Heimdall welcomes her into Valhalla. It is confirmed that she has died. Natalie Portman may return in the future to a similar afterlife scene, but it appears that this is the end of her character in MCU. How did Jane get into Valhalla When Thor speaks to Sif early in the movie, he explains the rules for getting into Valhalla. Only warriors who have died in battle are allowed into the afterlife of gods. Jane is killed while fighting Gorr at Eternity Gate in her Mighty Thor form. She also becomes the Mighty Thor and gains Asgardian powers. As an Asgardian, she is granted access to the afterlife. How did Jane Foster become the Mighty Thor?! Jane becomes the Mighty Thor as soon as she lifts the Mjolnir. Asgardian powers of super strength, and the ability to travel on the Bifrost are part of this Asgardian status. Although it isn't clear exactly how she makes the transition, it appears to be due to a vow Thor made to his hammer make. Jane and he were still together, he told Mjolnir that he would always protect Jane. This then seems to be sealed into the book. Is Gorr dead? Is Gorr dead? The Mighty Thor and Thor defeat Gorr's Necrosword. This is what gave him his God-butchering abilities. He loses his Necrosword and reverts to his human, dying form, as it drains too much of his energy. Gorr is close to death when he stumbles through Infinity's gates. He succumbs quickly to it. Gorr changed his mind about Eternity. Zeus, Thor's companion on the journey to Omnipotence city, explains Gorr’s plans to attain Eternity and grant the wish that all Gods should die. Gorr makes a decision to make a different choice when he reaches Eternity. Instead, he decides to bring back his daughter from the dead. Gorr realizes that his daughter may have another chance at life after the Necrosword, a corrupting force, is destroyed. Who are Love and Thunder, and where are they now? Where are they now? Thor has a kind of daughter. Gorr requests Eternity to bring his daughter back to life and Thor is appointed her caretaker. The movie's final scene shows the couple living on a ship in domestic bliss. This scene is filled with adorable details. Thor is having breakfast, while the young girl draws a face on Mjolnir. Although we don't know where they are, they run into battle when the door opens. We find out that Thor and Gorr's daughters are named "Love and Thunder". Korg doesn’t make it obvious who is who, however Chris Hemsworth seemed to have given this information in an interview before the movie's release. He spoke to Kevin McCarthy (opens in new tab) and revealed that India Rose Hemsworth is the character's father. He said that his daughter, India Rose Hemsworth, is also there and plays the role of Love. He also said that Hemsworth's young character may not be reprising the role after the film. Hemsworth said that it was a family event and a fun one-off experience. They shouldn't become actors and child stars. They loved it and had a wonderful time. Where are the Guardians of the Galaxy? Thor: Love and Thunder doesn't feature a large role for the Guardians of the Galaxy. They leave the film very early. They head in one direction when a lot of distress calls are received from areas under attack by Gorr while Thor follows Sif. We never see them again and it isn't mentioned how they did in their mission. We will soon see them in the The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, directed by James Gunn. It is available on Disney Plus in December. They will then be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (which is due for release on May 3, 2023). Who starred in Thor: Love and Thunder, and who did it? Thor: Love and Thunder has many great cameos. New Asgard reveals that Ragnarok's theater troupe survived and has added members to its ranks. Matt Damon returns as Loki, Sam Neill is Odin, Luke Hemsworth plays Thor, and Sam Neill is as Odin. Melissa McCarthy plays Hela and Ben Falcone, her husband in real life, appears as the director of this mini-play. Other cameos are limited to Jenny Morris, a musician, as one the New Asagardians and Simon Russell Beale, a singer, as one the gods of Omnipotence-city. The movie also features roles for Bale's, Waititi, Portman, and Hemsworth children. Stellan Skarsgard reprises his role as Erik Selvig in Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, he was mentioned in Endgame as being bluff. Is there a scene after the credits? Yes! Yes! The first is after the stylized credits when we return to Omnipotence, and the second is right at the end. How did Zeus survive? During the fight at Omnipotence city, Zeus was apparently killed by his Lightning Bolt weapon. In the scene after credits, however, Zeus is clearly still alive. His attendants are seen cleaning his wounds, making it appear that he was only injured and not killed. Although there is no clear explanation for how he survived, it appears that his healing powers could be involved. Who plays Hercules in MCU? Who is he? Credit : FW The most significant reveal in the post-credits scenes was the introduction of a new MCU superhero. Zeus is off-screen speaking to someone and ranting: "It seems that being a God used be something. People want superheroes. When did we become the joke? As we see Brett Goldstein's Hercules, the camera turns. (See our guide to Hercules: Thor: Love and Thunder for more information. Although it's only a brief glimpse of him in his shining golden armor, it looks like he could be a major part in Marvel's future. As Zeus orders him to take revenge on the Gods of Thunder, this scene shows him as a possible villain for Thor. Hercules in the comics is based upon the Greek god Zeus. He has many of the same abilities as him including speed, endurance, superhuman strength, durability and speed. Marvel Phase 4 will be interesting to see how it plays out. Is there a Thor 5? It's revealed that Thor will be returning at the end of the credits sequence. We don't know how he will return. The last scenes suggest that there are more things in store for Asgardians. He is now a father and has a new enemy (Hercules). It could lead to a fifth Thor movie or evolve into another MCU property. Thor 5 plot: Here's what this story could include Love and Thunder ends with Thor and Gorr's daughter, named Love. They team up to protect the universe. Thor and Mjolnir are reunited as Love is equipped with Stormbreaker. Thor promised to care for Love before Gorr's death and is fulfilling that promise as "Uncle Thor." Evidently, there would be a follow up to see Thor as Love's guardian. Thor's introduction to Hercules makes it clear that things will not be easy for him. Zeus instructed his son to make mortals respect and fear the gods once more. If Hercules is terrorizing humanity, Thor and Love will undoubtedly intervene. A showdown can be expected between Hercules and the thunder god, as the pair are often enemies in comics. However, they have teamed up on numerous occasions, so Hercules won't remain a bad guy for too long. There's also the Valhalla reveal. Heimdall was killed in Avengers: Infinity War. Jane Foster is welcomed into the Viking afterlife with Love and Thunder. While it is uncertain if either of these characters will be back in Thor 5, time will tell. However, they are clearly not finished in the MCU and would make worthy allies in any fight against Zeus or Hercules. Read the full article

#MusicMonday Review - February 2021

#MusicMonday is the hashtag I've been using for quite a while to share music recommendations from up-and-coming artists. Always fresh, and always different, trying to look for trends before they become one. You can check January's review for more music.

For this edition, we'll focus on arrangements, as all the submissions have a distinctive sound that drives them through. Let's have a listen, with a word from the artists themselves. 🎧

Blue Room Movie Club - Ghosts

"I wrote “Ghosts” because I wanted to unpack a lot of the experiences I had had in the Christian church. I grew up in the church, and as I got older I saw some of the uglier sides of that world. A place that was supposed to be safe was actually a place where I experienced the most rejection. This song, and the entire EP Beyond Life and Death, is about accepting the unknown, and accepting that maybe what you’ve been taught or shown your whole life is not what it seems."

Coming up next, from Riga, Latvia, an Indie Pop tune that starts with a mellow piano and deep vocals that transforms into a full scale Indie Rock banger with a   psychedelic intermission in the middle:

"I remember listening to a lot of Damien Rice at the time of writing it, and it's basically about not letting my ex back after she dumped me via a text.

And it is also a roller coaster of emotions which you get being in relationship with it's high and lows. Song has moody and dreamy parts, upbeat, angry and enigmatic parts, so yeah, life is a wild ride.

Every person can find its favorite part in it, the one that touches him or her the most. These parts are telling the story, the simple from the first sight but nevertheless emotional. The lyrical and calm intro, the splash of emotions and thoughts, the persistent inner voice and the deep dive back in yourself. Safe and secure place, where the sonar (like the one in submarines) with its "beep" sound is looking around to detect any hostile movement around... but then you start to collect yourself by small pieces, pull it together and get back into the real world with the final conclusion and decision on such simple but powerful thing as love.

I'm sure that everybody have felt it in some way and will go through it while listening the song."

‘There’s definitely more’: Michigan man unearths more than 150 bowling balls during home renovation

DETROIT — On a normal day, most people don’t expect to find a bowling ball sitting on their back step, but one Michigan man found more than 158 beneath his.

David Olson, 33, was demolishing the back steps of his house on the morning of July 1, when he saw a black sphere buried in the sand behind some cinder blocks.

“That was one of the bowling balls. I didn’t think a whole lot of it. I was kind of assuming maybe there were just a couple in there just to fill in. The deeper I got into it the more I realized it was just basically an entire gridwork of them making up the weight in there,” Olson said.

“I was actually a little happy about that because it’s a little easier to roll bowling balls out of the way than to move the sand and figure out where to put all that,” he said.

While Olson’s initial count on Facebook totaled 50 balls, he uncovered more and more. Later,. Olson counted about 120 balls. The final count totaled 158, though Olson said he could feel more balls in the ground. In recent days, Olson discovered two more, bringing the count up to 160.

“There’s definitely more … but at this point in the area I need to work, I’ve dug down about 2 feet lower than when I found my last ball and I think it’s pretty much cleared out in that section,” he said.

When he first discovered the balls, Olson said his thoughts went to his three curious young children. He contacted Brunswick Bowling Products, the maker of the balls and asked whether they could be toxic. After about a day, Olson received a response. Olson sent in pictures, and after running the serial numbers on the balls, the company determined they were made in the 1950s and verified that they were safe and could be disposed of.

While this cache might be a bowler’s dream, the balls won’t be making their way to the lanes anytime soon. Olson said many of the balls were in rough condition, and each of the balls had two spiral grooves cut into them. 

As for the ball’s origins, Olson said there used to be a Brunswick bowling ball plant in Muskegon, Michigan. He said some ex-Brunswick employees contacted him through his Facebook post, and said workers used to take scrapped bowling balls to use as a cheaper alternative to gravel or sand.

Olson said he plans to use the balls as edging for his landscaping or to make sculptures. He also donated eight balls for a nearby church to use in a bowling ball cannon at a pig roast. He will also be giving some to his stepfather, who plans to use them as custom furniture legs.

also finally got around to playing BUCHiGiRE BERSERKER (FTR-10+) thanks to the new Groove Coaster update and i managed to get an EX+ on my second try!! huge gains!!!

a few more (failed) attempts on the Pentiment (BYD-11) Hard Clear, and one last FTR PM for the day on Give Me a Nightmare (FTR-8+, MAX-12) for FTR PM #126...

did some v/s grinding to catch up with my team and later practice the songs, getting this MAX on Lost City (FINALE 10+), a sightread MAX-18 AC on Sternstunde (FINALE 13+), and a pretty wacky FC on Aleph-0 (FINALE 13)...

Addickted: The Aftermath

Hello fellow Addickted readers! I’ve missed you guys so much! Now that school is completely out of the way, I have my writing groove back!

Writing this story has been such a roller coaster but I wouldn’t have traded it for the world. This was my first time cowriting and it has been a fun and stressful process and I loved every bit of it. I hope that you guys had fun reading our series and have enjoyed it! I’m so sad to see this story come to an end, but hey, @msnefie-honeylove21 needs to write Rainfall (I’m so excited for it!) and I have to write Slam Dunk.

Let me stop getting emotional and let you guys read!

Here is the last chapter of Addickted, we hope you guys enjoy!

It had been a year since Ahsha had her interaction with Derek in the kitchen at five in the morning on that rainy morning. Upon hearing the news of Ahsha’s past, Derek felt hurt that Ahsha had not told him about the incident yet

“And when I told him everything that happened, he took the news pretty hard, but eventually he came to an understanding about my addiction,” Ahsha concludes, taking a sigh of relief. She looks up and sees her husband’s smiling face standing by the door having just come from work. She waves at him and he makes his way over to her, sitting down and pulling her into a hug. 

“I hope I didn’t miss too much.” He whispers to her.

The members of the SAA meeting look at Ahsha, bittersweetly. One member raises his hand to talk, “And what about your friend Cory? Your business? How is that going? Where are Quinton as well as Jelena?”

Ahsha offers a chuckle and Derek rubs her back for support. Him coming to today’s meeting was something huge for Ahsha, she did not feel the need to hide the secret meetings from her husband and for once she felt free.

One year later and Mrs. Roman is already in training as an SAA discussion leader, today’s discussion is just the beginning.

“Cory’s good. Because of Derek and I telling him about the meetings we have here and how it’s been helping his marriage, he felt lead to go to counseling as well. From there, he was surprisingly able to get his ex-wife Jasmine to join him and they’ve just started dating again, taking things slow, but it’s such a huge step for them.” Ahsha runs her fingers through her hair.

“The business is good, Kyle and I have mended our twenty something year friendship and we are back and better than ever. One of our dancers just booked an audition for a major dance film, and we give credit to where it’s due, our amazing instructors. I love my job, especially having my best friend by my side helping me. Speaking of instructors, Quinton’s time at our studio was finished and he moved to a new studio, we needed a new instructor and Jelena applied for the position. She is currently teaching our three-year-old students and she’s such a little light to our company, I say little because she is tiny.” The whole room erupts into laughter which brings joy to Ahsha.

“That’s such an amazing story.” One woman says as she feels herself tearing up. Ahsha looks over at Derek who winks at her.

“Ahsha is a very strong woman, having gone through what she did and then come out smiling is beautiful. It was a work in progress, but she is improving day by day and learning to trust me more. She is a totally different from the woman she was last year. I couldn’t be more proud of her and I’m not just saying that because she’s my wife.” Derek grabs his wife’s hand as she holds her tears back.

Raquel starts to speak up, “Ahsha, you’ve come a long way from the day we met to now. I know sharing your story was frightening, but you did it! You did it and I couldn’t be more proud of you. Derek, I’m glad to see you here as well.”

“Thank you for having me, Dr. Saldana.”

“Well everyone, that’s it for our meeting. If anyone has any further questions to ask Ahsha, she will be glad to answer them for you.”

The whole room claps and everyone grabs their things, making their way out of the meeting.

“Thank you for letting me share my story today.” Ahsha gushes as she heads over to Raquel. The woman pulls the dancer in for a hug.

“I’m so proud of you.” She tells her as she lets her go. To see Ahsha boldly tell her story is something that even she had never seen coming. In order to get to this point, Ahsha had to let go of her stubborn pride and come to face with her past, something that scared her, but she made it through.

“I couldn’t have done this without you.” Raquel squeezes Ahsha’s hand.

“You have such an amazing support system, and I’m so glad to be a part of that as well, so thank you for giving me that opportunity, Ahsha.”

No one else had questions for Ahsha, so she left the SAA meeting hand in hand with her husband. The two head home in their separate cars and are greeted by Jasmine and Cameron waiting for them at the front door.

“Daddy!” Jasmine screams as she rushes into Derek’s arms.

“Hi princess.” He complements and picks the little girl up off the ground, kissing her little face.

“We ate our dinner and finished our homework. Can we watch a movie tonight?” She begs, Ahsha playfully crinkles her face, protesting her daughter’s request.

“Pleaseee?” Jasmine pleads, Cameron joining in too.

Ahsha looks at Derek and back at her two children. “A movie night sounds good.”

And that’s what they did. Sloane bid goodnight to her grandchildren, son in law, and her daughter and headed home to her husband who happily greeted her with dinner while Derek and Ahsha joined their children on the large sectional chair in the den to watch a movie.

“I love this part!” Jasmine says and sings aloud, amusing both parents while Cameron playfully mocks his little sister.

An hour into the two hour movie and everyone is asleep except for Ahsha. She smiles down at Derek who has his head rested on her shoulder, Jasmine who is asleep in Derek’s lap, and Cameron whose head is on her lap.

“God, thank you for giving my family back to me.” She says silently as the movie continues to play in the background, feeling grateful.

Forever grateful for overcoming her addiction.

Avenging Angel: Part 31

A/N: I just wanna take a moment and celebrate because I GOT ACCEPTED TO GRAD SCHOOL!!! And, so everyone knows, just because someone is in grad school doesn’t mean they’re mature. I ate chocolate cake for breakfast this morning... with my hands... But anyway, it’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted an update to Avenging Angel, and I finally got back in the groove. Hopefully things will start to move again. The storyline has been kinda slow lately, but we’ll get some dirty talking Sam in a few parts :)

Avenging Angel Series Masterlist

Land of Hollen. Raptor. 3-6 and 2 down.

Raptor. What the hell did that even mean?

You stared at this exact sheet of notes for countless hours, trying to solve this riddle. The Land of Hollen riddle hadn’t taken you too long. And even after finding the secret storage unit that your father’s key led you to, you still couldn’t figure out this stupid raptor reference.

But your father had had his hands in so many different pots that there had to be something somewhere, right? Contact lenses, nail growth formula, lunar effects… You just weren’t looking hard enough.

Birds, dinosaurs, cars, guns, roller coasters, sports teams… there was nothing the internet could pull up that even rang remotely close to whatever your father meant by raptor. It was too vague and ubiquitous.

Well, you weren’t going to get anywhere with that today. Setting aside that first notebook you’d found, you picked up another. These were all notes from just a few years ago. There was a name that repeated over and over in these notes, so you decided to follow that lead. Anything to get out of this suffocating storage unit and back into the real world.

So you pulled up your laptop and started searching for Quentin Gretem. Maybe he would be able to free your father.

Braxton was sitting in the open door of the helicopter, but you refused to touch the thing. In the back of your mind, you were still trying to figure out how you could get out of here without another HELLicopter ride. Instead, you chose to sit on the dusty ground in the shade.

“There’s a history between our families. I don’t know all of it,” he admitted, “But I do know that it was messy.”

“Messy how?”

He went silent for a moment and just stared at you like he was trying to figure out the best approach. “Do you know why your mother left you?”

“Don’t answer my question with another question,” you snapped.

“She was pregnant.”

“With my sister,” you guessed. That wasn’t too ground breaking.

“Yes,” he drawled slowly. Then he took a deep breath. “My sister too. My dad. Your mom.”

It must have been the desert heat mixed with the hellish past few hours because there was no way you heard him correctly. “We’re… related?”

“No!” He was quick to shake his head and dispel that train of thought. “You and I have absolutely no blood relation. Take a minute and think it through. My dad. Your mom.”

You kept your eyes on his face while you constructed mental family trees in your mind. As soon as you confirmed that you had not, in fact, slept with your brother, you could move on. Then the breakfast with George and Victoria popped up in your head. That kind of familiarity and animosity only came between two people if they were involved in their pasts. And apparently your mother had cheated on your father. Involved with a Covington indeed. Suddenly, your father’s hatred towards that family made sense.

“This is… a lot,” you murmured.

“I know.”

You could feel yourself start to retreat back into yourself, like you always did when there was too much information to handle. But then Dean’s voice broke into your thoughts.

Push it all down, Y/N. The emotions and the fear—you can’t have those. Deal with ‘em later after this is all over. But right now you have to go face them.

“Where is she? My-our sister?”

“A few hundred feet underneath our feet.”

“Come again?”

Braxton sighed and stood up, holding a hand out to you. “Look, it’ll be easier to show you everything than try to explain it here. Can you trust me for a few hours, at least?”

You stayed on the ground, looking up at your ex as you thought about his words. Could you trust him? You didn’t really have any choice but to put your life in his hands at the moment, but could you actually trust him? After everything he’s done and said—

“Why did you let them leave me on that mountain?” You asked as the thought occurred to you. “You said it was because you wanted to know if my mom was a werewolf, but you had my sister that you could have tested that theory out on. So you already knew she was a werewolf. Why let your dad almost kill me?”

At your question, Braxton sighed and sat back down on the helicopter. “Because I couldn’t let him know that I already knew. Plus, I knew that you wouldn’t die.”

“How could you possibly know that? All you knew was that my mom is a werewolf. You didn’t know if I had any… werewolf powers.”

“You’re not gonna like this,” Braxton mumbled, more to himself than to you. Then he leaned forward with elbows on his knees and fixed his eyes on you. “Someone in my organization gave me this device that I planted on you. It kept track of your vitals until a few hours before you got in contact with me—t9—when you got back to town. I’m assuming you took a shower or a bath or something and the water killed it.”

“You… That’s creepy, Braxton,” you understated, rubbing at your temples as the overload of information in the last few minutes started setting in. But whatever. Push it down. It was in the past. Time to move on. “Speaking of your organization, I think I’m ready. Let’s go.”

Apprehension filled you as you took Braxton’s hand and let him pull you off the ground. He led you across the hot, sandy, sage brush filled desert. Once you were a fair distance from the helicopter, Braxton pulled you down a slight hill. After brushing some wayward dirt off of a suspiciously flat space, you could see that there was what looked like a manhole cover in the middle of this desert.

“You’ve gotta be kidding me. Do you really have a secret, hidden base of operations underground like in some cliché, dystopian, young adult novel?”

He grinned up at you. “Did you really expect anything less from me?”

As he entered some code into a flap on the metal circle, you paced behind him, mumbling to yourself. “I’m about to follow my ex, the mysterious, hot, billionaire son of a shape shifter mafia group, down a hole in the middle of a desert to meet my half shifter, half werewolf sister while he tries to get me to tell him where the research is that had his family frame my father for a massacre and put him in prison. All I ever wanted from life was a stable job, a cute little house, and a dog. That’s all I’ve ever wanted! A freaking dog!”

“You good?” Braxton asked, watching you with an amusedly concerned expression on his face.

“Not even close, but let’s get this over with.”

Braxton lowered himself down into the hole and you took one last look at the free sky and sagebrush dancing in the warm wind before following his lead. Hand over hand, you made your way down the sturdy ladder until your feet hit solid ground again.

You watched as Braxton pushed a button and the manhole cover above you slowly closed, cutting off all the sunlight.

Cool blue lights slowly lit up the small room. Barely giving you time to react to the cold rock walls, Braxton took your hand and pulled you over to an elevator.

Right.

An elevator in the middle of the desert that led down to the super-secret hideout.

Perfect.

“My dad, well my whole family really,” Braxton started explaining while the elevator began its descent. “They’re only concerned with themselves. With the survival of shifters. We’re not like that.”

“We?”

“My group.”

“What, no fancy name?” You asked teasingly.

Braxton chuckled. “Nope. We couldn’t agree on one.”

You weren’t claustrophobic. You just weren’t. You’d spent months in a storage unit and were just fine. But there was something about knowing that you were going further and further underground that was making it difficult to breathe.

And, since Braxton was the only person here, you needed his comfort. But you didn’t want him to know that.

“So if you don’t believe in just the survival of shifters, what do you believe in?” You asked, taking a step closer so that your arm was pressed against the length of his. It wasn’t quite as good as waking up next to a nearly naked Sam Winchester on the side of a mountain, but it would have to do. Human—well, mostly human—skin to skin contact was calming.

“The advancement of all species. That’s what your father was doing. He and your mom spent their whole lives trying to figure out ways to improve and fix certain attributes.”

“The contacts for the eye flare,” you mused.

“Control of shifting during the lunar cycle… we just want to help everyone, Y/N.” Braxton turned to face you, taking both of your hands in his and looking down earnestly at you. “That’s why we need that research. In our hands that research could change the world.”

“Party” by Planet 1999

Pop music’s caffeine tastes sour lately—it’s too brash, too silly, and too in love with the physical world—so instead I’ve regulated my energy with gentle, abstracted substitutes. In the video for this happy-slurry dance track, folks in casual wear bop around a digital purgatory, which feels awfully relatable. — SK

For when all you can do is stare out the window like the lead of an indie movie: “Cut Me” by Moses Sumney

The fantastic new album by sleepy-voiced strummer Andy Shauf is about spending a night out at the bars yet remaining stuck inside one’s own head. Here he fantasizes about an ex calling him up to reconnect, and it’s a weirdly comforting reminder that pre-quarantine freedom had its quiet madness too. — SK

For when you can’t concentrate: “Sex” by the Necks

In this general glut of horrible news, horrible numbers, and pestilential vibes, it can be—let’s put it mildly—hard to focus. The Necks are an Australian improvisational trio, and “Sex” is a nearly hour-long voyage into the galaxy that Miles Davis discovered with In a Silent Way. Slow, twinkling, irreversible build; beckoning theta-states. Whatever you’re doing when you put this on, you’ll start to do it better. — JP

For when only Morrissey will do: “My Hurling Days Are Done” by Morrissey

Forgive him his trespasses, as he might—actually probably wouldn’t—forgive yours. A yodeler on the Alp of himself, calling in his lost sheep, his black sheep, his whipping boys, in that rich and curling tenor, this, ah, complex individual is still in magnificent voice, and still capable of writing superbly, as demonstrated by this cut from his new album, I Am Not a Dog On a Chain. — JP

For a dramatic lip-sync session in the mirror: “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Céline Dion

Sure, this is one of the strangest songs ever written, but just think of it as an ode to the outside world, which you’ll see again … someday. — HG

Listen, I get it—social distancing has made dating really weird! But that’s no excuse to go full “Marvins Room.” Instead of Drake, let Bad Bunny be your muse: “Si Veo a Tu Mamá” is a rueful message to a lost lover who’s already moved on, but it’s also a bouncy introduction to the Puerto Rican phenom’s incredibly fun new album, YHLQMDLG. Rather than yearning ad nauseam, Bad Bunny looks forward. Do the same, and dance along. — HG

For your eerie but life-affirming walk around the neighborhood:

“Happy Cycling” by Boards of Canada

How did the ambient musicians of Boards of Canada anticipate this experience 22 years ago? The stores are closed, the gulls are jeering, and yet you pace ahead to thwart leg cramps. Five minutes in, the endorphins assemble, the creepiness lessens, and there’s an unidentifiable new feeling that might even be related to hope.  — SK

“Stay Flo” by Solange

Solange’s collage-like 2019 album When I Get Home has never made more sense. It’s like she’s trying to remember the chaos of the outside world, rhythm first, and ends up conjuring some fresh, bizarre, and ultimately pleasing sense of order. — SK

“What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye

Because obviously. Gaye voiced Vietnam-era outrage, but never has a sigh of “WTF” sounded so consoling or pure. — SK

For when you’d rather be on a different planet: “Celebration Station” by Lil Uzi Vert

Lil Uzi Vert isn’t subject to the same rules as the rest of us. Where we might trudge through life, the 25-year-old Philadelphia rapper glides. That’s never been more obvious than on the long-awaited Eternal Atake, his recent chart-topping second studio album. Uzi immediately followed it up with a separate 11-track record, Eternal Atake (Deluxe) – LUV vs. The World 2. It’s nearly impossible to pick just one song from the extraterrestrial experience that is the double release, but “Celebration Station” is a roller coaster unto itself. The run from 1:49 to 2:11 will roll through you with so much energy, it’ll feel almost like wind blowing through your hair again. — HG

For thinking about when it’s all over:

“One Love Jam Down” by Papa Michigan & General Smiley

“The social barriers come down / Together in a one-love jam down.” We’re told that there likely won’t be a V-E Day on this thing, no single joyful scream-of-the-whistle moment where we all rush into one another’s arms and orgiastically reverse the months-long damage of social distancing. But we can dream—and the combined bass-synth squelch on this 1980 classic of positive reggae can keep our dreams juicy. — JP
