Mistletoe and Earl Grey(Remus x Sirius)
Summary: Remus and Sirius spend the day alone in Hogsmeade, as James and Peter are in detention.
Warnings: Just a tiny little sprinkle of angst but mostly fluff
The wolf sprinted through the dark woods as the dog, deer and rat ran after him. Light was beginning to peek through the trees, making the thin layer of snow on the ground sparkle. The four of them came to the edge of the forest, and continued on to the willow tree, it’s movements still slow and sleepy, which allowed the wolf carefully walk down to the tunnel beneath it’s roots. The dog, deer, and rat turned back to their human forms while they waited for him.
“You have to allow me some dignity,” Remus had insisted the first time they had tried to follow him to the Shrieking Shack.
When Remus emerged, now in his human form, the Marauders walked calmly to the castle, then upstairs to the common room. These mornings were the only times they weren’t joking or teasing each other, they were just quiet.
“That one looks bad,” Sirius said, noticing the cut on Remus’ shoulder. He healed it in seconds by using a healing spell that they had all mastered by this time.
“Thanks,” Remus said, with a defeated tone in his voice, as there always was after a full moon. The four boys climbed into their beds and closed their eyes, to try and get some sleep before they had to wake up for breakfast.
“At least there’s Hogsmeade tomorrow, Moony,” Sirius said.
“James and I can’t go, because he wanted to slip some dung bombs into Snivellus’ bag,” Peter complained.
Sirius smiled, and not because he was remembering Snape’s face earlier that day.
~
“Sirius, can you pass the potatoes?” James asked. Sirius didn’t answer. “Padfoot? The potatoes?”
Sirius’ face was red, and he seemed frozen, staring off into the distance. James glanced to the left to see what he was so captivated by. It was Remus, walking towards them in an oversized, knitted sweater.
“Bloody heck, Remus, what did you do to your hair?” James exclaimed, seeing Remus’ styled hair. “It’s standing up all weird.”
“I-i uh, I think i-it looks pretty good,” Sirius stammered. His face was steadily getting redder.
“Oh, you two should just kiss already,” James laughed.
“James!” Sirius shouted. He glared at him. James raised his eyebrows.
“Um, I need to get a book from the library,” Remus said, stood up, and left.
~
“Hi Remus,” Lily said when he walked into the library. She was, as usual, forfeiting most of her breakfast time to study in the library.  “You going to Hogsmeade today?”
“Yup.”
“And didn’t James mention that he and Peter can’t go because they won’t stop bullying Severus?”
“Yes.”
“So it will just be you and Sirius?”
“Yes, Lily.”
Lily smiled. “Remus…”
“Lily.”
“I saw him at breakfast this morning. He likes you back.”
“Lily, he’s my best friend. Besides James and Peter, I mean,” Remus said quietly. He looked down at his shoes. “I just don’t want to ruin everything.”
“Remus, don’t worry about it, I’m sure-”
“Lily, you don’t understand,” He looked back up at her and his voice dropped to a whisper. “They’re the only friends I’ve ever had.”
Lily grimaced. “I’m really sorry. I should’ve thought,” She said. “But don’t be afraid, Remus. Don’t be afraid.”
~
“James made me promise to get a few Nose-Biting Teacups for Snape’s tea today,” Remus attempted conversation as they sat down on a bench in Hogsmeade.
“Well, how about you go get those at Zonko’s, and I’ll go to Honeyduke’s?” Sirius suggested. “We can meet back here in about fifteen minutes.”
“Well we have three hours, I don’t think we need to split up.”
“If we split up then we’ll have more time for, um, snow angels,” Sirius argued.
Remus tilted his head in confusion. “Okay…” He said. “I’ll meet you back here after I get the Teacups.”
As promised, they met back at the bench in fifteen minutes.
“I got some Sugar Quills too-” Remus started to say, but stopped when he saw the box Sirius was handing to him. Honeyduke’s Best Chocolates.
“Um, these are for you,” Sirius said, and smiled. “I thought you might need some chocolate after last night, they said in Defense Against the Dark Arts that it makes you better after a dementor sucks part of your soul out, and I know that’s a completely different thing, but you’re still-”
“Yeah, I get what you’re saying,” Remus grinned, and took the box of chocolates. “Thanks. So do you want to go to the Three Broomsticks? Didn’t you say you need some help studying for O.W.L.s?”
“Yeah, I brought some of my textbooks.” Sirius confirmed.
“Okay, good,” Remus said. “I need some hot tea.”
“What’s wrong with butterbeer?” Sirius protested.
“It’s fine, I just think it’s too sweet,” Remus justified.
“That’s the best thing!” Sirius exclaimed as they walked into the tavern.
“Well what’s wrong with tea?” Remus argued.
“I don’t know, it’s just… Not sweet enough.”
“Sirius...” Remus rolled his eyes and smiled. “Well, what subjects are you having trouble with?”
“Transfiguration and Charms, mostly,” Sirius said. They sat down and ordered their drinks, butterbeer for Sirius and tea for Remus, of course, and spent the next forty-five minutes going over Conjuring Charms and the like.
“So does that make sense? Like I can do this?” Remus asked, pointing his wand at Sirius’ tumbler of butterbeer and Transfiguring it to tea just as he took a sip.
“Bloody heck, Moony!” Sirius exclaimed, almost choking.  “Mmm, it’s actually pretty good. Earl Grey?”
“Yup,” Remus threw back his head and laughed, but stopped when he saw what was hanging above them. Mistletoe.
“What’s wrong?” Sirius asked, taking another sip of tea.
“Um, absolutely nothing, it’s mistletoe,” Remus answered, pointing above their heads.
“Oh,” Sirius said. He stirred a sugar cube into his tea. The two of them looked at each other. Sirius leaned towards Remus. Remus leaned towards Sirius. Then their lips touched.
“Yes! Yes!” James exclaimed from doorway. He ran to them. “Wormtail and I managed to sneak out of the castle and I’m so glad we did!”
Sirius blushed. Remus laughed.
“James, calm down,” He said.
“I’m sorry, but I’m just so happy for you two,” James said. Sirius and Remus grinned.
