Grocery Retail Economic Trends to Prepare for in 2023
The grocery retail industry is constantly evolving and adapting to changes in the market and consumer behavior. With the new year already here, it's important to understand the economic trends that will shape the industry in 2023. The purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive overview of these trends and to offer insights on how to prepare for what's ahead. We will cover key trends in the industry, market, economy, sales, and consumer behavior to give you a comprehensive understanding of what to expect in the year ahead.
The current state of grocery retail
The grocery store industry is currently undergoing a period of transformation as retailers look for ways to adapt to changing consumer preferences and technologies. In recent years, we have seen the rise of online grocery shopping and the increasing popularity of meal kit delivery services. These shifts have had a significant impact on the way people purchase and consume food, and they have also driven innovation and growth within the industry.
Despite these changes, traditional brick-and-mortar grocery stores still play a crucial role in the food retail landscape, providing consumers with a variety of products and services. It's important for retailers to stay informed about the latest industry trends in order to stay ahead of the competition and meet the changing needs of their customers.
Key trends to look out for in 2023
As we look ahead in 2023, there are several key trends that will shape the grocery store industry. One of the biggest trends to watch out for is the continued growth of e-commerce and online grocery shopping. With more and more consumers turning to the internet for their grocery needs, retailers will need to find ways to effectively compete in this space. Another trend to look out for is the increasing emphasis on sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices.
Consumers are becoming more conscious of their impact on the environment, and they are looking for retailers that share their values. In addition, there is a growing trend towards healthy and convenient meal options, as consumers seek out options that fit their busy lifestyles. Retailers that are able to effectively respond to these trends will be well-positioned for success in 2023.
Impact of these trends on the industry and consumers
The trends shaping the grocery store industry in 2023 will have a significant impact on both the industry and consumers. For retailers, staying ahead of these trends will be critical in order to remain competitive and meet the changing needs of consumers. Retailers that embrace the growth of e-commerce and online grocery shopping will be better able to reach a wider customer base and build strong relationships with their customers.
By focusing on sustainability and environmentally friendly practices, retailers will be able to tap into a growing segment of consumers who are looking for products and services that align with their values. Meanwhile, the trend toward healthy and convenient meal options will present opportunities for retailers to offer new and innovative products that meet the needs of busy consumers. Ultimately, these trends will help shape the future of the grocery store industry and will play a key role in determining which retailers thrive in the years ahead.

to preface this post i am anti-advertising i think we should explode the entire industry but it's sooo funny when you people make posts like "and they don't even work!!" like. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but yes they do. that's why we have to put up with so many despite everyone hating them and thinking its annoying. because they actually work really well and make a shit load of money

Today’s hot tip is if you’re about to buy a more expensive beauty product, remember to check if the product has a mini/travel version and check the prize in relation to the amount of product you get and compare the two because there’s a real chance that the full size version will cost more per ounce/ml/gram/what have you. It’s not always the case but it has happened to me several times by now and there’s never any rhyme or reason to it as far as I can tell.

it's actually so so so disappointing that every time I've been contacted about a possible opportunity for my art outside of personal commissions it turns out to be a scam. like, its exhausting knowing that my art isn't worth being contacted by anyone who doesn't want to steal my money. it feels like they're making a mockery of me when they think they can trick me into something with their copy+pasted responses.
just once i would like to have a real opportunity come forward for my art to be used for something more. just once.

This is the exact essay I submitted (among a few other more boring ones) which was part of my accepted application to Rice back in 2018
Prompt: Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (150 word limit)
Response:
It was my dad who first said it, trying to explain to my grandma what I did for work.
His joking description, “Oh he’s Fruit Bitch,” got me thinking. Most people assume working in the fruit-and-vegetable department of a grocery store means I control the product.
Wrong.
I’ve never once had control over the fruits and vegetables; they control me.
I spend ten minutes trying to get that lemon-lime display to look presentable.
Not half an hour later, it becomes apparent to me that the limes threw an all-night frat party-- half are passed out on the floor, while the other half are moldy and fraternizing with the lemons.
It’s not just those little demons; I often suspect that legions of fruits and vegetables are plotting to someday overthrow me in a disheveled and moldy coup d’état.
“Produce Clerk” I may be, but my dad’s right: I’m Fruit Bitch.

in retrospect i guess it makes sense, but as someone who listened to section 80 on repeat during the same high school years in which my fandom-teen-ness was regrettably intense, it feels very strange seeing how few of these people on this here website even know who drake is

I'm not hyperinvested in trying to get other people to to be vegan or vegitarian (mostly because meat/not meat isn't a reliable determinant of how environmentally destructive a food is) but I definitely have the least respect for meat eaters who are unable or unwilling to confront that their meat involves killing an animal. I don't think it's ethical for someone to eat meat and look away from how it got on their plate. Like regardless of physical access or ability, if you don't have the emotional fortitude to hunt and butcher an animal, you shouldn't be eating meat.
