to preface this post i am anti-advertising i think we should explode the entire industry but it's sooo funny when you people make posts like "and they don't even work!!" like. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but yes they do. that's why we have to put up with so many despite everyone hating them and thinking its annoying. because they actually work really well and make a shit load of money
#it actually would be way better if they didnt work and made no money bc businesses would abandon them#this isnt like stocks where everythings abstract and is essentially gambling (i dont understand stocks)#like ppl in the ad industry create things. that make a tangible and quantifiable impact on the business#which is then used in further ad planning. it is NOT all smoke and mirrors#like its fake in that the industry is not providing a necessary service the way like. grocery stores are#but its not the level of fake where everything is abstract like theres deliverables#moreover there is an extensive body of academic work specifically on how to make ads more effective#ALSO i think some of u views ads like. as if they have a win condition. which is you buy product#but in current advertising this is pretty rare and comparatively ineffective#which is why you see MANY ads which dont seem to be selling anything in particular. or which have nothing all to do with the product#the 'win' condition for THAT kind of ad is something more like 'viewers remember our name'#like. ex i would say ads for temu have not been effective on me bc i havent bought anything from them#but temu probably thinks they were SUPER effective on me because i talked abt them like 5 different times at work#and i do in fact know exactly what the company does and what they sell#and they were able to capitalize on the reputations of existing companies (wish shein etc) to build their own brand#good idea generator

Do you have a fav blush? Do you like cream, powder, or liquid blushes?
ok so my favorite right now is the colorpop blush stick in cottage life it is a wonderful like. terracotta orange that looks super natural on me. so awesome. also super super blendable it blends out so easy... also used the elf putty blushes and those are good, i have two of the like. orangey shades (<— orange blush enjoyer) (checked. i have bahamas and one that doesn't have a shade name but i'm p sure is turks and caicos) and they're rlly nicely blendable and buildable with good color payoff :) other than that i have the nyx sweet cheeks one that's like. a tube. in coralicious and that's also a good one that's rlly colorful! i have to put that one on the back of my hand before i use a brush to apply it though which Is a little more of an inconvenience so. y'know. it also looks like my sunburn shade in the summer so i have mixed feelings on wearing it then haha. i would say a cream blush is probably my fave? powder blushes are delightful obvi but in terms of what i actually wear day to day the cream ones (i think the elf ones are cream to powder. but y'know) are more realistic. liquid ones are cool but they are often just too pigmented for me... would never use the rare beauty ones cause i just don't need that much color and if i did i would just layer up more of the ones that i can use for more natural looks
#also cause they're spemsive and i don't spend money on makeup but like the principle of the thing#my major blush opinions though. orange and purple and red blushes are going to save the world#pinks are cool but have you considered... colors that work on other skin tones...#my skin is like. olive and barely tan. and pink manages to look clownish on me so easily but wearing oranges was Such a change#and there is obviously such a dearth of products actually meant to suit dark skin tones in the makeup industry...#see also recent dior blush fiasco. tried those in a sephora yesterday and they are genuinely like chalk#my point was. purples and oranges look so fucking gorgeous on darker skin tones and i wish that there was more conversation#about using different colors that Suit you and like. Complement you rather than whatever shade is viral#anywayyyyyyyyy#forever thinking about the fenty trophy wife highlighter from way back when. i feel like that never got enough hype#saw someone white making a video back then like 'it just doesn't work for me' yeah obviously not. i think we could have guessed#that straight up gold was going to look strange on your cheeks. wasn't made for you#stepping off the soapbox. wasn't made for me either. it looked so so so good on dark skin though that was so fun to see#we should bring back highlighter... i am thinking this all the time...#maybe it's just cause i was like. becoming a person for real when 2016 makeup was happening. but i still love it#'why were we doing a full beat to go to the grocery store' uh. for fun? listen....#impractical. over the top. yes. and i think we should do that when we feel like it#the natural makeup that's been popular lately is cute!! and also. i fucking miss nikkietutorials 'i want to look like a lightbulb' era#over the top ridiculous highlighter come back baby i miss you...#valentine notes

the other thing u can do with moral ocd is say "if chidi anagonye was in this situation, what would i be shouting at the tv?" and then just take that to heart
#NO CHIDI!! JUST SPEND A MINUTE OR TWO TRYING TO DECIDE ON THE LIKELY MOST ETHICAL SOURCE OF ALMONDS AT YOUR OWN GROCERY STORE AND THEN BUY#THOSE BUT NOT LIKE $200 WORTH!! CHIDI THAT WOULD BE SUFFICIENT!! RAISE AWARENESS ABT THE INDUSTRY RATHER THAN BEATING YOURSELF UP ABOUT#IT!! CHIDI!!!!!!!!

Today’s hot tip is if you’re about to buy a more expensive beauty product, remember to check if the product has a mini/travel version and check the prize in relation to the amount of product you get and compare the two because there’s a real chance that the full size version will cost more per ounce/ml/gram/what have you. It’s not always the case but it has happened to me several times by now and there’s never any rhyme or reason to it as far as I can tell.
#cecil blogs her life#it’s like the opposite of when you buy in bulk at the grocery store and I’m honestly not sure why#but#I’ve experienced it multiple times by now#it’s so frustrating because I’d also like to cut down on my waste (ie the packaging) but I’d also like to get my moneys worth y’a know?#but then makeup companies also bank on you not being able to get thru products before they expire which is another can of stupid worms#the beauty industry is 🤡🔪

it's actually so so so disappointing that every time I've been contacted about a possible opportunity for my art outside of personal commissions it turns out to be a scam. like, its exhausting knowing that my art isn't worth being contacted by anyone who doesn't want to steal my money. it feels like they're making a mockery of me when they think they can trick me into something with their copy+pasted responses.
just once i would like to have a real opportunity come forward for my art to be used for something more. just once.
#vent#keroa#i've kind of given up on the idea of ever getting a job in any industry#like. im just gonna work at a grocery store until i get ulnar neuropathy and carpal tunnel and have to stop doing art like my mom.#it makes me feel like i've worked so hard for so long and nothing ever came of it.#sorry i'm having an actual real period for the first time in a long time so my brain is out of wack

This is the exact essay I submitted (among a few other more boring ones) which was part of my accepted application to Rice back in 2018
Prompt: Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (150 word limit)
Response:
It was my dad who first said it, trying to explain to my grandma what I did for work.
His joking description, “Oh he’s Fruit Bitch,” got me thinking. Most people assume working in the fruit-and-vegetable department of a grocery store means I control the product.
Wrong.
I’ve never once had control over the fruits and vegetables; they control me.
I spend ten minutes trying to get that lemon-lime display to look presentable.
Not half an hour later, it becomes apparent to me that the limes threw an all-night frat party-- half are passed out on the floor, while the other half are moldy and fraternizing with the lemons.
It’s not just those little demons; I often suspect that legions of fruits and vegetables are plotting to someday overthrow me in a disheveled and moldy coup d’état.
“Produce Clerk” I may be, but my dad’s right: I’m Fruit Bitch.

(Real photo of this fruity bitch standing with all defenses raised against a possibly bloody & very sticky produce revolution)
#high school jobs#produce clerk#fruit bitch#as a stock analyst I focused heavily on the grocery store industry#I love food#grocery#college essay#college applications

in retrospect i guess it makes sense, but as someone who listened to section 80 on repeat during the same high school years in which my fandom-teen-ness was regrettably intense, it feels very strange seeing how few of these people on this here website even know who drake is
#like. hes DRAKE#probably number one artist you cannot escape if you have been around a radio in the last decade and a half#to some degree i can imagine being under enough of a rock to somehow miss kendrick's output up to this point#but drake is like where music industry writers shove their spare hits#hes an incredibly prolific pop artist you hear at the grocery store like

I'm not hyperinvested in trying to get other people to to be vegan or vegitarian (mostly because meat/not meat isn't a reliable determinant of how environmentally destructive a food is) but I definitely have the least respect for meat eaters who are unable or unwilling to confront that their meat involves killing an animal. I don't think it's ethical for someone to eat meat and look away from how it got on their plate. Like regardless of physical access or ability, if you don't have the emotional fortitude to hunt and butcher an animal, you shouldn't be eating meat.
#like obviously factory farming bad but like#part of fixing our food system is becoming more directly connected to our food sources#I'm not invested in the meat/no meat divide because the way our relationship with food plants is mediated by the grocery store is also bad#and like. industrial ag monocultures and shipping costs are hella ecocidal idt replacing meat with vegetable fakemeat is much better#we gotta fix our relations with food plants as well as animals and a lot of that is just. ethical direct sourcing#but the thing I will absolutely judge and tell you I don't respect is not wanting to think about your burger having been a cow

Broke down in tears this afternoon over the price of eggs so I am uuuhhh doing great
#not just over that that was just the final straw#I am so overwhelmed and it never gets any easier#and I never expected to get rich in this industry but I wish financial stability felt like more of an attainable goal#I am never going to be able to afford property on my own or to have kids if I wanted them#I don't even feel like I can afford a pet#but I should be able to fucking buy eggs at the grocery store without worrying that I'm being financially irresponsible#did not buy them so at least my good friday feels appropriately penitential

This is Easy Mode.
Try watching beagles who were bred for lab experiments touch grass for the first time on YouTube.
Hard Mode:
watching factory farm rescued livestock do the same
I hope Nael knows their poem made me cry
#capitalism#industrialization#animal welfare#in case you were wondering 90%+ of grocery store items come from factory farms#ie animal abuse#carnism

I felt like I needed to clarify some things before we could continue any more conversations on this godforsaken website.
I’m very proud of the European Robin, I think I really captured it.
