It became obvious how you started to grow a crush on your potion teacher. The way you glanced at him while studying, as he walked by. Every momemt you could, you stole a look at him. You tried telling yourself that it was just a crush, it didn't mean anything. But you were bad at telling lies, even to yourself. You were ashamed to know that you had fallen for your professor. It was forbidden.

As the week went by and weekend came closer, you had studied for all the tests. Mostly making professor McGonagall proud of your results. You had gained 30 points this week for Griffendor. It made you fill with pride. You definitely would be a good student. The weather outside was cold and foggy, Autumn had arrived a week sooner then expected. "I want to buy some pumpkin pie!" A friend said as you wandered through the hallway, listening. You mostly nodded as you listened, holding your leather bag at your side. The two of you headed to the Great Hall for dinner. Your stomach had growled, begging for food. You loved the food at this place. As you entered with your friends, your eyes quickly went over to the table in the back were the professors sat. It was something you are used to do. But as you didn't see professor Snape at his usual seat, disappointment filled your heart. You joined your friend at the table and started to eat. Your thoughts taking you from the conversations your friends were having. "Miss (L/N)?" You suddenly heard as you turned your head. You stared right into Professor Snape's eyes. "Yes...?" You answered, wondering why he suddenly appeared behind you. "Come with me this instant" he spoke in a cold tone, his gaze piercing you. You could only nod and followed him behind.

Your heart ponded in your chest as he leads you to his office. He went inside before shutting the door as you entered. He didn't say a word as he went to his desk, sitting down. You noticed how dim the room looked, only a few candles lightened up the space. You walked closer to the desk before standing still behind the chair. "Sit" he said as he folded his hands on the desk. As quick as you could, you sat down and gulped nervously. Snape stared into your eyes with something dark in it. "I have noticed your behavior around me" he suddenly spoke, tone steady and harsh. "Don't think how i haven't noticed you staring at me in class, or after class". It was like a dagger got stabbed in your stomach. His tone filled with annoyance and disgust. You gripped your skirt as you felt your throat dry. "Explain yourself" he demanded. You swallowed as you couldn't find a way to explain it to him, without pissing him off more. "I...I didn't mean to..." you started, your voice only a whisper. Snape raised a eyebrow as he waited for more. Maybe you should just confess everything to him, it can't get any worse. "I just...have these feelings...and thoughts.." you started to confess to him, of how every day you woke up hoping to see him. How he brightened up your day when you see him. How you know his schedule throughout the day. Wait that last part sounds creepy. You swallowed as you finally shut your mouth, looking down.

Snape stared at you in disbelief, confusion. He inhaled deeply and sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. Another confession of a student, great. He hated this. "Miss (L/N), what you are confessing here is wrong and forbidden. Whatever you feel, it's worthless" he hissed at you, tone filled with sharpness. "Maybe you should focus more on your studies then on professors". You felt your heart shatter. You knew it was wrong. Of course you were 19 but in the academically rules it would be forbidden. You knew the consequences if it ever happened. You just nodded as you lost any strength to speak. You felt how your body tremble as tears rolled down your cheeks.

Snape watched you as you broke down. He frowned, not expecting this. Most students would have agreed and left. For most it was just a small crush, but he could see how much it hurt you. He pushed the worry aside, he can't be worried for a fool like you. "You can leave, and try to focus on your studies" he said distant. You nodded, grabbing your bag and rushed out. Why did it hurt so much?

I’ve been feeling called recently to go back to my fandom roots and so therefore I MUST tell you all my thoughts on the bats and their Hogwarts houses.

Dick is Ravenclaw and I refuse to budge from this. He is a genius acrobatic little shit who created all the stereotypes and expectations for young super hero sidekicks and for the following Robins! When you think of Robin, of how he helped bring light to Batman, helped solve crimes from a very young age, lead multiple other young superhero groups, and went on to create a moniker and separate but equally as competent vigilante persona as Batman? Dick is the FIRST one to do all of that! He is also a little genius who has a genuine dark side and, given as these examples and qualities I’ve listed above, there is absolutely no way you could convince me he belongs in any other house. (He was also a mathlete but I refuse to lessen ravenclaw to simply the ‘smart’ house.)

Jason belongs in Griffindor. I see you all saying, ‘no, he belongs in ravenclaw because he likes to read!’ Absolutely not. I will not stand for this slander! Jason is outlandishly courageous and moral. Sure, he’s a bit messed up in how he goes about it but he most certainly has the strongest sense of morality among the batkids and he’s the one who’s actively doing it in the quickest and best way he can imagine. He hit the ground fcking running and hasn’t stopped since. Just because someone likes to read, enjoys, and understand the nuances of literature, you shouldn’t downplay many of their other outstanding characteristics.

Tim is easily the most Slytherin of the bunch. If that’s what you were thinking, you’d be right! This man at, too young of an age, figured out the identities of Batman and Robin and kept it to himself until, by his own definition, couldn’t in good mind keep that information to himself and do nothing about it. He forged his path into the batfam, founded a new young superhero league, couldn’t stand the idea of Batman being dead and found proof he was alive AND brought him back against all odds! He is ambitious and has his own set of rules and morals to live by and if that isn’t Slytherin, I frankly don’t know what is.

Damian is also Slytherin. Now him, I personally wouldn’t want to put into Slytherin, I honestly think he should be in Hufflepuff or even Griffendor but because, in the book, the hat takes the individuals opinion into account, he’d be in Slytherin. He’s cunning and dangerous and a lot like Tim. There’s a reason he pegged Tim from the get-go. His upbringing has a lot to do with the house he gets placed into as well as his thought process on the world from when he first joins the batfam. He takes like a fish to water in Slytherin regardless of how he got there, though.

I can’t say I’m as knowledgeable on other batfam members but to speed run a few of them anyways without as much backup data:

Bruce is Slytherin or Ravenclaw. (I’m torn because of his obvious special-interest-autismness and because of his inherently cunning personality (not to mention the parallels that could be made between him and Tim or Damian and the opposing parallel of him and dick.))

Alfred is def Slytherin.

Steph is Griffindor.

Case is Hufflepuff. (By her own choice otherwise Slytherin.)

Babs is def Slytherin.

Duke would be Hufflepuff or Griffindor.

To be so fr, if I could put all of the batfam members in Slytherin in hood conscious, I would and I would die on that hill. (This family is a bit toxic and unhealthy and has a very screwed sense of reality and morality.)

Does anyone want to scream about Lily Evans and her relationship with Snape with me? I'm writing a longfic and I'm struggling a little with my characterisation.

Okay, actually. I'll start:

Lily fascinates me because we know so little, and what we do know often contradicts in very interesting ways. Who Harry’s parents were is presented as a mystery that Hary solves throughout the books. Lily appears to be even more obscured than James; he has a group of friends to tell Harry all about who he was. People seem much more hesitant to talk about Lily (the marauders mostly bring her up to talk about her green eyes. That part where Lupin talks about being close with her is movie-only), and her closest friend and family actively withhold information. There are never any Griffendor women who talk to Harry about being close to his mom. It leads me to assume that Lily, a known muggle-born from a poor town in the middle of nowhere and a known associate of Severus Snape, wasn’t quite as popular as Slughorn suggested in Hbp

I’m also going to go out on a limb and say she wasn’t quite as put together as you’d assume; she had a baby at 19 or 20, in the middle of a war. I’m really trying to put what I’ve seen happen first-hand with super young parents aside. But even when I accept that Lily was able to be a good mum at such a young age, I can’t pretend that this was a mature decision. A war was happening, and Lily and James were both prominent soldiers in it. Surely she realised how much danger they both were in.

The big bombshell is, of course, her friendship with Snape. We know they became friends at eight years old, considered each other ‘best friends' at one point, that their relationship started crumbling in the fifth year and that she officially cut him off after he called her mud blood at the lake. Other posts have already masterfully illustrated how they were torn apart because they were fundamentally unable to see things from each other's point of view. Severus talks about being bullied, then dismisses the bullying other Slytherins were doing (when Lily tells him about Mulciber using dark magic on a student he waves her off. “That was just a laugh.”). Lily, on her end, seems very eager to believe Griffendor's gossip over her supposed best friend when it comes to the shrieking shack incident. They’re both hypocrites. Completely ignoring each other's issues while blaming the other for not acknowledging their own. So one thing leads to another, Snape yells a slur and Lily decided that enough is enough. Which makes sense, it’s not her responsibility to fix him if he’s starting to get radicalised. There’s a certain tragedy in baby Sneeple being thrown in the dungeon with a bunch of wannabe-death eaters at eleven, but again, that was not for her to fix.

But I’m still completely baffled by the fact that she laughed. Whywhywhy did Joanne(derogatory) write that. That’s your best friend being publically humiliated and borderline sexually assaulted, what in the hell are you smiling for. I’ve tried to argue that she’s not laughing at Snape, she’s getting flustered by James’ antics. But no, that doesn’t make sense either. At that point, she’s still very turned off by him, and she calls him a toerag only a few lines later. His show-off is precisely what she dislikes about him. This would not be charming to her even if she already had a crush.

One explanation I’ve seen is that the friendship was one-sided from Snape’s end. She pitied him when they were kids, got sick of him at Hogwarts and then dragged this dead horse of a friendship around for five years before finding a way out. Meaning that she laughed because she genuinely thought Snape being bullied was funny. And to be honest, I hate this interpretation. It’s just sad, but not in an interesting way. There’s no tragedy there. It reminds me of those fanfics on Wattpad where the love interest was only fake-dating Y/N as a joke.

It’s wildly unrealistic, renders Snape’s sacrifice kind of meaningless, makes him seem like a total idiot and her like an evil harpy. I’m rejecting it on principle.

So… then what? Lily just has a lack of empathy? Demonic possession? Honestly, it seems as likely that Joanne(derogatory) had not quite figured out what their relationship was supposed to be. Because it makes perfect sense if they don’t really know each other, doesn’t it? The smile emphasises that Snape is socially ostracised. The fact that she composes herself emphasises that Lily is a moral figure and does not approve of James’ conduct.

If you have another interpretation that makes sense, please tell me! I’d love to know how others are reading this scene because I feel it’s essential to her characterisation but I’m just not quite able to get there yet.

Ok propably the only time I'm gonna post something Harry Potter related but listen…

How much more interesting and meaningful would it have been if the golden trio had ended up in different houses?

Imagine - Harry, who has been lonely his whole life and never felt particularly brave, feels overwhelmed with all those people asking him questions he can't answer and treating him like a celebrity. So he retreats himself and tries to avoid the other Griffendors.

Ron, who comes from a family history of Griffendors, feels inferior to his siblings and thinks something is wrong with him, because he got into Hufflepuff. Alienating himself from the others in the process.

Hermoine, a muggle-born who got into Ravenclaw determined to make a good example of herself, studies relentlessly to be more knowledgeable than the others, treating the other Ravenclaws as rivals.

Those three, with each of their own struggles still manage to become friends, help each other with homework and stick together through all their adventures. Neither of them really care about the house cup, because even if their own house loses there's still a high chance one of their friends win.

Eventually, Draco, who has a high standing in Slytherin, because of his family name, but never had meaningful friendships, comes around and the four unite the four houses in the final fight against Voldemort. An enemy who's out to separate the wizarding world because he thinks some wizards are inherently better than others.

I just really want to see the house cup abolished, okay??? Because pitching literal children against each other because they are put into different groups, with different "values"??? Big yikes.

Two day passed and no one heard of you. The corridors where filled with studens, when hagrid carried a half dead body through the people. Right to the hospital wing. Mrs. Pomfrey took care of you. Soon you'll be fine. When you woke up, you said nothing, just laying there and staring at the ceiling. Still traumatized. George sitting next to you, holding your hand. "It hurts..." you whispered. "I know." George said. A few day later you left the hospital wing.

Dubledore expelled the boys from school. You still felt unsfe. You have spend a lot of time with george. But you haven't smiled since that one day. Two weeks till the school year ends.
