So..there had been many, many things he had done. Some of them are mentioned in the story, some were implied.

I will count everything from begining to his "unfortunate" end. This might be triggering to some people so you have been warned.

In his conquest for power, he murdered many, many people. He lost count after the 30th guy. Between all of them, there were versions of himself.

After becoming parasite of void, there had been even more murders, manipulation, code breaking, torutures to see and test just how far and how powerful he is.

Taking advantage of people (ie rape)

There had been kidnapping, many before he even found Pixlriffs

Code manipulation and body modification/horror against their will (Pixlriffs is turned into a statue)

Dream team wasnt kidnapped, but still was manipulated to do his 1st Life.

sometimes I can’t help but wonder why grian is the way he is, especially with scar. scar offers him unconditional love and compassion, no matter the world. third life they were partners. last life scar clearly wanted a team with grian in the beginning. double life was… very convoluted but there was still that love there. and teaming with grian in limited life seemed to be all that scar wanted.

and yet grian pushes and pulls. he pulls scar close, reaches for him. but just before scar can get too close, grian pushes him away.

he kills him. he steals from him. he does things that really, scar should hate him for.

and it makes me wonder why. I mean, grian has unconditional love being offered to him. but he never takes it. not fully at least. there’s always a surface level acceptance. he gives just enough but takes so much more.

and we all know “grian is scared of killing scar again after third life”, but I can’t help but think it goes so much deeper than that. because on some level, grian does reciprocate scar’s feelings. he does love scar. his actions say that much.

but he’s always pushing scar away. maybe it’s because he doesn’t want to believe that scar’s love isn’t just something that scar is going to take away; like pulling the rug out from under him. maybe it’s because grian is afraid of giving scar an opportunity to betray him first.

or maybe he’s scared of the vulnerability that comes with loving and being loved. so he hurts scar before scar can hurt him, and it’s a way of keeping himself self (while also breaking himself down without realizing it).

and scar? I think scar sees all of that. grian’s fears and his defense mechanisms. yet he loves him in despite of it all. he continues to offer grian love and kindness, even as grian stabs him in the back. even as grian pushes him away to protect both scar and himself.

it’s like scar is trying to coax a wounded animal out from the corner. he’s patient. he’s kind. he’s loving. and he tries to show grian that he can be dangerous too, so that maybe grian won’t feel as scared. he tries to show grian that his love really is unconditional, that it isn’t a trick.

but grian is so buried in his fears that he doesn’t see it.

The breeze that whispers between the stalks of bamboo encircling the cherry mountain’s highest point is a welcome coolness against Scar’s face. However fresh it may be, the red that runs beneath his skin seems to boil his blood as physically as it does in the purely metaphoric; he’s warm enough to have discarded his waistcoat and pushed his sleeves further up his arms.

Lizzie and Jimmy are asleep, bedrolls laid out around the embers of a once-fire, shrouded in enough torchlight to keep the mobs at bay. At the cusp between dusk and darkness, they’d taken joy in kicking the empty shells their killer snails had left behind down the ridge of the hill, and Scar had cheered with them when the shells had crumbled into dust at the bottom. He hasn’t touched his own.

Restlessness prickles at his palms and itches at his mind. Scar’s effort to sleep had been mendacious by his own standards, but the moment his head had met the pillow beneath it, he knew rest would evade his every attempt.

All is quiet, all is still. Scar’s tiptoe is careful, and his teammates sleep through the ringing crack of the branch he could’ve sworn was not there a moment prior. Scar ducks through the bamboo and starts to scale his way down the hillside.

His plan of avoiding the staircase had seemed brilliantly inconspicuous on flat ground. It proves useless when Scar runs straight into company.

He nearly sends himself barreling down the steep drop, taking Grian with him. He would’ve, in fact, had Grian not clutched his arm and pulled their collision into something closer to an anchoring embrace.

Grian’s touch is gone as soon as Scar’s no longer in danger of dying to fall damage. Scar blinks at him. “Hello there.”

“What are you doing?” Grian’s hushed voice is halfway between a hiss and sigh. His sweater is wound tightly around his shoulders.

“I could ask you the same thing.” They’re about halfway down the mountain the Bamboozlers and the Spanners share, on the face opposite to where Grian’s team has hung their bridges. The ridge they sit upon is no larger than a cascade of cherry blossom petals and a smattering of tiny pink flowers. “Scheming up the next wild card? Scouting out traps?”

Scoffing, Grian casts a hand across the empty wilderness beyond them. “Who would I trap? Why would I be setting up traps right now?”

“You’ve always been the prepared type, you could be getting your licks in early,” Scar says, and the teasing that sweeps up his throat is familiar.

The faint smile Grian fights to keep off his face is at contrast with the sharp edges of his frame. “I really wasn’t, not this time. Just… taking in the night.”

“Hm.” Scar wonders how the things Grian keeps from him weigh against the things Grian shares. Not that it matters here—they’re hardly allies this time around; enemies, even. As red as his eyes are, Scar should shove Grian right off the mountain and see how his iron armor fares.

The full moon’s light shines through the strands of Grian’s golden hair. His knee is warm against Scar’s own when Scar dares to nudge closer, and Grian makes no moves away from him. Selfishly, Scar remains, and the silence that falls between them is generosity extended.

Still, something lingers. Eventually, Scar softly says, “Thanks.”

Grian startles slightly, and glances at Scar before fixing his sight on the horizon. “What for?”

“All you’ve done to keep me alive,” Scar says, and the sudden rush in his ears is a stark reminder of what he’d almost lost. His lives gone are splintering cracks spreading across his chest; the final one is as fine and fragile as a spider’s web cast over his heart. The shattering sure to come was deafening before Grian had thrown the world into a resolute halt.

“Well. It was nearing the end of the day, anyway,” Grian says, near-defensively. “It’d be silly to lose a player so early on from something so preventable.”

Now, that just won’t do. Scar tilts back and balances his weight between his arms. “Sure, sure. But you and I know the truth, don’t we?”

Grian scoffs, and drily asks, “The truth, huh?”

“Why, you’d miss me so terribly, of course!”

“Miss what about you, exactly? Pretty sure you tried to kill me earlier.”

Scar waves a hand. “That was just for fun. Anyway, I have many miss-able qualities. On who else would you see this handsome of a face?”

“Oh, I don’t know, Mumbo’s mustache is pretty hard to top,” Grian drawls, but his shoulders have lowered and his hands are loose at his sides.

“Very indam-itat-ible.” Scar nods solemnly.

“Indomitable?”

“But, you just can’t beat the good times, Gri,” Scar continues. “It’s impossible, even. Who would fill that treacherous void, if not me? I’m doing the world a service!”

“Your idea of service is a wink and a scam to whoever you can sell it to,” Grian says through a smirk.

“As a salesman trying to make an honest living, I’m wounded that you’d think I’d do anything as vile as scamming people,” Scar says, wiping a dry eye.

“Honestly, I’m still not sure how you managed to talk anyone into buying pieces of colored glass or bits of junk from the back of your cabinets,” Grian says. “Must’ve been all the flirting.”

“The flirting is a Grian exclusive, I’m afraid!” Scar says. “The ol’ patented charm got the rest. That does remind me, though, I’ve got a limited time offer on the table, just for you.”

“Oh yeah?” Grian says, and the glint in his eyes rivals an entire barrel-full of gleaming crystals.

“Yeah.” Scar brings his hands forward and cradles Grian’s wind-touched cheeks between his palms to press a quick peck to the side of Grian’s mouth.

Grian catches Scar by the hand when he starts to pull away, and his calloused thumb splays against the delicate flesh of Scar’s inner wrist, shifting until it rests against his pulse. Scar takes a moment to kiss Grian thoroughly.

“I suppose you do have a pretty nice face,” Grian concedes after he’s leaned back into his own space.

“Why, thank you,” Scar says with a wink.

Blossoms sway gently above them, and the plains below hum with spiders and cicadas. The thoughts tumbling behind Scar’s eyes have eased to a steady churn. Grian’s fingers are still against his wrist.

Together, they sit and bask in the glow of company beneath the moon’s silver shine.

Grian can taste Death.

The metallic, cast-iron taste of Death, lingering in the back of his throat. The schizophrenic visions of Death, in the corners of his eyes, flickering like static.

Death follows Grian, like the last thing that’ll stay with him. His friends can get sick of him, his enemies can disappear, but Death, Death remains. And Death is out for him.

He can’t let his friends help; can’t let them get in the way. This fight is between him and the End, only. So, no, he won’t let Scar save him. And no, he won’t let Scar run off, like he’s trying to right now.

They’ve been keeping their distance from each other over the past few days, but Grian can tell when Scar’s planning something. He’s been unpacking less and less, when they settle down to sleep. His agreements to Grian’s plans have been more and more reluctant.

So, yeah, okay, Grian’s been hard on Scar recently. But Scar doesn’t get it. 

Ever since that incident, with the creeper, he’s kept his guard up. He can’t let him go down to red. And, okay, maybe shouting at him and calling him useless isn’t the bast way to do that. But- If Grian doesn’t save him, doesn’t tell him what to do, he knows that Scar will die. 

And he cannot let Scar die. Not again.

So cannot let Scar run off, like Grian knows he’s trying to.

He tries to confront him, when they’re settling down to sleep, in the dirt house. 

Hiding behind his wings, Grian shares across at Scar. The wide, jagged lines of burns raise the skin over his face, distorting his eyes. He’s staring up at the stars. 

“Are you going to leave?” The words startle Scar out of his stupor, and he looks across to where Grian’s laying on top of his sheets.

“What do you mean?”

“I’ve seen you, these past few days. Since that creeper. You’ve been unpacking less and less.”

“That doesn’t mean I’m going to leave.”

“Well, what- what about the way I acted? The way I was, with you. After. Didn’t you think- you’d be better off alone?’

“No.”

Grian tenses. He watches Scar’s eyebrows knit together.

“Is this your way of trying to apologise? Because it’s not working.”

“I just-“

“I’m not leaving, Grian. What do you want me to say?”

“Well-“

“That you’ve been acting like a dick? That you haven’t been taking my feelings into account? That your brashness hasn’t just jeopardised me, but both of us? I know this is stressful and I know it’s scary, but we have to work together on this. There’s nobody else we can turn to. So no, I’m not going to leave you. And you’ve got to stop thinking like that.”

Scar’s breathing heavily, now. His voice is raised. They both turn towards the door, and watch for something to happen. And then he sees it. 

The shriek. The death call. 

The darkness.

Scar has an incredible ability, which is whenever he's sad, angry,, or betrayed. He doesn't mention it. He acts like nothing happened. A good example of double life is Scar doesn't mention the cheating or doesn't argue about it with Grian. He just keeps it for himself and acts positive all the time, so much so that it's hard to realize that he's even hurt. Like this man could be having the worst day of his life and you wouldn't know. (he has a benefit from people like him at the beginning of each series)That usually leads to Scar ending up all alone because no one can see that he's hurt. Not even Grian, who is a watcher, doesn't see how his actions have a long-lasting effect on Scar. like Scar having "deja vu" in other seasons which makes him trust everyone less if not at all, it's like he's sure that if they were on yellow and his on green they would want him to fail which isn't always the case but Scar is not gonna risk the chance of being betrayed again. The watchers, or whom Scar calls "the hall monitors," see that and decide to TRY to push Scar completely to his limits. (but because of how he acts, they can never fully succeed in it) And they won't stop until Scar emerges victorious or perish...

After all, Scar will act like everything is fine

I am thinking of life series desert duo again.

In third life, we have Grian and Scar teaming up. Here, we establish their relationship for the majority of the series, with Grian being annoyed with Scar's antics and Scar being extremely chaotic towards anyone except for Grian. Grian takes Scar's last life in what might be the single most heartbreaking moment in a minecraft series ever.

Then we have Last Life. Grian tricks Scar into giving him a life, not once but twice. Maybe even three times, depending on what you think regarding the first time he goes red. In this series, Scar is incredibly lonely, the entire series is about him trying to form connections and get allies, but by the end of it, even after he literally gives people his souls, he is still alone. Grian, despite being in a big group, is also alone after all, he becomes red pretty early. He can never truly trust his allies, even going so far as to kill Mumbo and Jimmy for the last time himself.

Then we have Third Life. Desert Duo is forced back together against all odds. Scar, despite his shenanigans, does his best to help Grian as he can, while Grian proceeds to push him away, even going so far as to get a secret soulmate. Scar lashes out and hurts himself on purpose just to hurt Grian. Neither of them are happy, and both die alone in the dark, with Scar at least having his horse with him.

Limited life is the first series where Scar doesn't go after Grian at first. He gets himself a base with Bdubs and Cleo and, unlike his previous relationships (which were either with Grian or on his own,) he seems to be happy despite all the killing, all the chaos, he found a group of people who finally appreciate him. It seems like he will finally be able to escape the desert. Then, Grian comes. Grian, who loses all of his allies, once again, in part due to his actions. He is the one to ruin their happiness, he is the one to kill all of the Clockers, one by one, even calling Scar's death he ultimate betrayal as the man literally stabs him through the back. Grian, despite being the one who originally pushed Scar away, the one who refused to partner up in Last Life and even Double Life, is the one who drags Scar all the way back from happiness.

Grian, despite trying with all his strength, never managed to leave that desert, and he will never let Scar leave either.

Thinking about Scar and Grian as a pendulum.

They keep getting pulled together by no choice of their own, only to run in the opposite direction as soon as they get the chance. Still, they’re a unit and they can never escape each other, existing in a constant state of back and forth. They alternate every season but realize that they’ve never chosen each other.

In Third Life, it was out of guilt that Grian went with Scar. They made a deal and, even after it expired, where else was there to go? They formed a bond, willingly or otherwise, that neither could walk away from even if they wanted.

In Last Life, they largely have nothing to do with each other. Aside from Grian conning a life from Scar, the pair stay about as far apart from each other as they can get. They’re friendly enough when they interact, at least early on, but neither want a repeat of what happened last time.

In Double Life, the game itself binds them to each other. Grian even grumbles about “oh not this again.” He does his best to protect Scar, but tries to maintain as much as emotional distance as possible. Still, they’re soulmates, they’re in this together. Even when they both consider leaving the other, they stay, they can’t help it.

In Limited Life, they again run in opposite directions. Pushing against the gravity that pulls them together, they form factions whose main enemies are each other. Still, parts of them hope it could be different. The looks they give each other from across the great divide are more longing than menacing. Their interactions are more teasing than malicious. If they’re always going to end up hurting each other, why act like this ends any other way? But that doesn’t make it any easier, fighting the call from inside themselves, saying that they should be together. Live together and die together, that is their destiny, every time. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to try their hardest to defy that destiny, no matter how much it hurts.

A character study in which Jimmy is the only one who remembers each of the past games and his allies in each season make him a new pair of wings. He accepts them every time even though he knows what he’s bringing upon himself. And then he dies…

Yes, it is established that Grian is not the most powerful person. His coding knowledge is more...destructive then creative (one of the resons he needed the Coper King's help in the first place)

Now, if you want to keep control over people, if you want to make sure that they don't figure out the exact power-level you have, you need to act like you are the most powerful being there ever was

And yes, Grian is aware his skills aren't the best, but at the same time, he never met anyone who could match him on this powerlevel. He never met anybody who could defeat him in his own game (pun was intented).

He can be smug all he wants as there is clearly no one that is more powerful than he is

so no one really disagreed with me on this one and i don't think anyone will just because of the fact that he references her in his videos but like. i'm still going to talk about it because i want to and this is my blog and You Can't Stop Me!!!!!

if you don't know sabrina carpenter, basically just know that she's charismatic & confident & hilarious & gorgeous. plus like all of her songs are sooo him! they're fun and light and always a hit!!! but also can be scathing if they need to be!!!! her humour especially reminds me of him (as a character) because it's like ironic and self-aware but also flirty and silly but also a little twisted and a little mean. in particular i think that the cocky (not the word that describes it best but it's the only one i can think of) side of herself that she shows during her concerts reminds me a lot of joel with his whole "oh i'm so tall and handsome" bit he's got going on

literally like i don't know what more i can say to this. my dude has multiple of her songs in his playlist, he used espresso in his video, and also one of his tools on hermitcraft is named after a lyric. it's canon guys 🙏

2. grian as taylor

okay this one is VERY personal to me. i am so unhealthily attached to him as taylor. you're probably thinking: but, nya, he literally canonically has an alter ego named after ariana grande! and i raise you this point: i simply do not care

all jokes obviously. i can see why people see him as ariana! especially in her new album, i've listened to it a lot, and i definitely can see some songs that remind me of his character - cough, cough, we can't be friends (wait for your love) - but i've got to say that ariana to me has always been scar (or maybe even a bit of jimmy? undecided) but that's a post for another time

now why i see grian as taylor! i have three main reasons for this actually. as an og swiftie and an og grian fan i may be a little bit biased but just. ignore that. thanks

first of all, i think that they're both kind of starting points, if you get what i mean. most hermitcraft/life series fans start with grian, and then eventually branch out to other creators. similarly, a lot of people listen to taylor swift/know her songs the best out of the genre she specializes in/within the audience her content is aimed towards

secondly, they're also both the most popular within their own branch, and i think they're both the type of artists/channels that you can enjoy without really being a Fan of. almost mainstream (? don't know if that's the term that would work for grian but you get my point). like you don't have to be a diehard grian fan to enjoy his videos, you can just decide one day to pick up one of them, watch it, then never think of it again. does that make sense?

third, i think they both have a lot of variety within their content. taylor's music ranges between emotions and styles, just like the videos that grian makes fluctuates in theme. he's on servers like hermitcraft, where we see him interact with other people and show off his building skills and just be silly. then he's in the life series, which is the total opposite, and then he was also in evo, which is also very different, and so on. his characterization also is very different from author to author, which is, of course, to be expected, but i haven't really seen other people in this particular fandom get characterized so differently to this degree. (it's not a bad thing!!!! i love it i think it's actually sooo fun & interesting that we can take this character and morph it into what we want. like most people don't even realize they're doing it you can only really pick up on it if you're looking for it)

3. jimmy as olivia

i'll be real with you, i have considerably less reasons for why i've chosen this. it relates a lot around his interactions with other characters instead of just him as a character + i've taken a few creative liberties here so. cut me someeee slack!

my main reason for this is that jimmy is just the epitome of teenage girl to me (just like olivia). that's probably a little bit of projection on my side because i, myself, am a teenage girl (which i don't know if many of you know? but yes i am a teenager) and jimmy's probably my favourite which leads to me kind of distorting his character a little. but. i don't know. something about the not being taken seriously, the refusal to give up, the insistence that this time will be different just hits me so hard/is relatable. not to get all serious on you

i will say this, though - while sabrina as joel was about both sabrina carpenter the person (or the person that the world knows) and also her music, i think for olivia as jimmy, it's mainly about the music. but you can also relate her relationships with other people (what we know of them, at least) to jimmy's with scott tango grian whatever. i think they do parallel each other pretty well, but, again, that's another post

i also think that jimmy's a lot more sour, not so much guts. olivia's first album revolves around that idea of heartbreak, jealousy, angst. i think his character usually revolves around themes like that. guts, olivia's second album, to me, is a little different. she's grown as a person, reflecting, and she's a lot more confident, too. it shows in her music. i think that jimmy (especially in the life series) is overall very, very sour coded, but then again, there are many songs on guts that definitely can be related to him too.
