Finally took the plunge on a Gretsch and picked up this beautiful model 6118 Double Anniversary model. I've primarily been playing Fenders since high school, but I've always wanted a Gretsch ever since I saw videos of George Harrison playing one when I was 10 years old. Two tastes that go great together: a 1959 Ampeg Rocket and my old Gretsch 6118 Double Anniversary. Picked up the Gretsch brand new over a decade ago, and Mr. TV Jones was kind enough to bring in his test guitar and help me find the perfect pair of his Filter'Trons for it. Tested about every vintage-appropriate floating bridge on it too (Space Control: sounded like poop, bar bridge: sounded like a fat tub of butter, Melita: no bueno for palm muting) and settled on the lightweight aluminum Bigsby bridge that's still on it today. Throwing it back 2 years. This 1959 #Gretsch, on loan at the time from @tomgibson3783, started out life as a #SingleAnniversary in #SmokeGreen. Because of a dodgy fretboard that rendered the #guitar unplayable, Tom was able to acquire it inexpensively and upgrade it through the good people at @folkwaymusic with a new ("vanity"!) fretboard as well as a second pickup, and this fancy pinstriping. Such character in this instrument. It was restored from a husk by @guitarfixr at @folkwaymusic including a new custom inlay fretboard and a second pickup added (neck pickup is the original though). Totally digging this 1959 #Gretsch Anniversary (on loan from @tomgibson3783). The fretboard was damaged and needed replacing, so while they were at it, it was routed for a second pickup by @folkwaymusic's @guitarfixr. Since the guitar was going to be non original anyway, why not have fun with it, amiright? The original PAF #Filtertron in the neck has been joined by a #TVJones model with PAF cover. The lovely pinstriping is job by @rollie_pinstriper on the top and back, as well as the back of the headstock . Flashing back to sunnier times, precisely 20 days ago, when @tomgibson3783 took his personalized (see fretboard inlays) 1959 #Gretsch #6125Anniversary in original #smokegreen finish out for it's first live spin. . Tom got the #guitar for a reasonable price because the fretboard was damaged and not repairable. He had our mutual friend @guitarfixr at @folkwaymusic install this replacement fretboard with his name on it, and since the originality of the guitar was already buggered up anyway they decided to rout it for a second pickup as well. The original #PAF #Filtertron in the neck has been joined by a #TVJones model with PAF cover.
