A #SmokeGreen TBT to a few months ago when I had @tomgibson3783's *slightly* modified 1959 #GrestchAnniversary on loan. This was a rescue guitar that had retained its original finish and #filtertron neck pickup but needed a fretboard replacement. So Tom had some fun with it, adding the custom-made monogrammed fretboard, extra TV Jones pickup in the bridge (so it's now a de facto Double Anniversary!) and some snazzy pinstriping! It was restored from a husk by @guitarfixr at @folkwaymusic including a new custom inlay fretboard and a second pickup added (neck pickup is the original though). Day 10... with two beauties from '59. . Here's the closest thing I have handy to an ES for WednESday this week: @tomgibson3783's 1959 #Gretsch 6125 Anniversary in Smoke Green with some fun customization! . Also, it's SO nice to have the 1959 Fender Harvard back home and in tip top shape (thanks again @marshalllespaulfan!). It's all original except for one filter capacitor that was replaced by a prior owner, and a capacitor we had to replace on the volume pot because it was leaking DC (or do capacitors leak AC? I can never remember! No, pretty sure caps block DC and let AC through...but I digress!) and was causing scratchiness when using the volume control. We tried to replace it with an exact period-correct replacement, but the replacement turned out to be leaky as well (but many thanks anyway to @djlavalamp for trying to help us out with the part we needed...it was a valiant effort, but 60+ year old caps are a crap shoot sometimes!). Totally digging this 1959 #Gretsch Anniversary (on loan from @tomgibson3783). The fretboard was damaged and needed replacing, so while they were at it, it was routed for a second pickup by @folkwaymusic's @guitarfixr. Since the guitar was going to be non original anyway, why not have fun with it, amiright? The original PAF #Filtertron in the neck has been joined by a #TVJones model with PAF cover. The lovely pinstriping is job by @rollie_pinstriper on the top and back, as well as the back of the headstock . Flashing back to sunnier times, precisely 20 days ago, when @tomgibson3783 took his personalized (see fretboard inlays) 1959 #Gretsch #6125Anniversary in original #smokegreen finish out for it's first live spin. . Tom got the #guitar for a reasonable price because the fretboard was damaged and not repairable. He had our mutual friend @guitarfixr at @folkwaymusic install this replacement fretboard with his name on it, and since the originality of the guitar was already buggered up anyway they decided to rout it for a second pickup as well. The original #PAF #Filtertron in the neck has been joined by a #TVJones model with PAF cover.
