Vibrolux - Partners in Crime
Not sure if I already posted this, but I have been obsessed with this song since I first heard it on Mutant X. I think it plays during a fight scene during one of the early episodes. I spent a long time trying to get a copy of the album this song appears on, but I was never able to. Meant to ask at record stores when I was in Canada, but alas I forgot as there were so many wonders to see.
Iâd love a copy of the Mutant X soundtrack. Iâm pretty sure it was never released. Not just the theme tune and the songs like this that appeared on the show, but the incidental music too. I love it all.
I wonder if any of the musicans or production staff would still have a copy? Not so long ago someone posted some photos of props from the show. I sometimes still wonder about the sets, are they still in that warehouse outside of Toronto? Have they been used again on other shows? They still exist in my mind as if they are places I have been physically.
Wow, today sure is a day for random memories.
I sometimes think I have said all I can about Tom and Mutant X and Canada. But I guess that isnât so.

i wanted to share my updated web layout, since tumblr's trying to move away from the profile sites and onto the boring little blogs in the dashboard :)
i'm still using the same template i was before, but now i have a little floatie of visser three (which i commissioned from a mutual as a birthday present to myself) and i've managed to make it look even more outdated... which is my goal. after all, animorphs takes place in the era of geocities.
eventually i'll update it to something a little more personalized, a little more over the top, but for now? i think it's pretty cute :)
#animorphs#i love web design but it's also really tedious and i have too many ideas and not enough know how...yet#i'd really like to use the design language of a lot of old flash-driven websites specifically#i spend a lot of my time scrolling through the old web design museum looking for the coolest possible layouts#my ideal endgoal is to make a nekoweb site that's completely andalite-themed#and have a forum and junk. i want 2 make an animorphs internet hub. and there again are my high hopes and my lack of knowledge#ideally also this specific song (and/or others handpicked for my playlist) would automatically play when you open the website#drown by vibrolux shows up in the leader part 1 (in anitv) and i dont think ive ever shazammed a song in a tv show before then

New Amp
Friday, I traded my PRS DGT and Fender Princeton Reverb for a Victoria 35210 with serial number #0014.
Victoria, the company, has been around seemingly forever, and this is the 14th amp theyâd ever produced. Kinda cool. Probably wonât be worth anything extra, but itâs got everything the collectors drool over...the special stuff in the guts and the dual Mojo Tone speakers (no longer made).
Victoria is known for making the highest quality, period correct replications of Fenderâs great tweed amps. The circuits are almost identical, the wiring all meticulously done by hand...at this point, Victoria amps are almost considered replacable with the real deals from the 1950â²s. Iâve been familiar with them for a long time, over their entire range, and the only negatives I can throw their way is that theyâre expensive.
Fenderâs tweed amps vary by model (the parts and circuits were hodgepodge since they were inventing this shit on the fly) and size, but the common characteristics between them are thick, rich cleans that can be overdriven into harmonic glory.
The 35210 is based on the Fender Super or Vibrolux (same amp, the Vibrolux just has a vibrato circuit added) and is probably the âcleanestâ tweed amp. The Champ, Deluxe and Bassman were overdriven gods...theyâre at their best pushed to the limit. The Lo and Hi powered Twins and the Princeton/Harvard were low-gain beauties at their best when theyâre right on the edge of breaking up.
The Super/Vibrolux (and the Pro) were, for whatever reason, at their best relatively clean. Each of these amps had a different circuit, different operation (single-ended vs. push-pull, etc) and tube combination that made them behave differently. But like all of the bigger tweeds, the two different inputs (one for instruments, one for mics) worked dynamically when not in use. Meaning, altering the volume on the unused channel can drastically change the behavior of the channel in use.
Again, when these things were designed, they had no idea what they were doing. This quirk became a feature. Another quirk is the Treble and Bass controls...these donât operate like normal EQ controls...halfway up, they operate as normal, but past that theyâre adding gain. Pushing each past noon immediately pushes your amp into a light overdriven crunch, even at relatively low volumes.
The other nice thing about tweeds is that theyâre stripped down. My Princeton is about 2â³ narrower but the same height...so a slightly smaller footprint. However, it only has one 10â³ speaker instead of 2, and despite that, the Princeton was probably 5 pounds heavier due to the vibrato circuit and spring reverb tank (neither of which I used).
While I have loads of experience playing tweeds, this is my first proper one that Iâve actually owned. While I talked about a bunch of different things tweed amps can do, the beauty of them is that theyâre relatively set it and forget it. Any setting you plug into will likely sound great, no matter what guitar youâre using.
Itâs really a testament to Leo Fenderâs brilliance that these designs he chalked up in the early 1950â²s have lived this long as benchmarks. Great amps, great designs, great execution from Mark Baier at Victoria...great shit all around. Clips to come when my new tubes get delivered and installed.
