MAN... i hadn't before (i haven't really read much precrisis yet!) but i went and read them just now and. jesus christ they were just killing people left and right back then huh skdhfdjshf!!! but oof... gregor nagy... :( i understand now. i get it. it IS really funny to me that being depowered somehow made johnny kirk no longer superman's adopted son though like he just fucking left him on the street corner??? hello???

Changeling

Real Name: Gregor Nagy All Appearances: Action Comics #400

Gregor Nagy's father Jan was a Nobel Prize winning scientist, but his father's bleeding edge experiments changed his life forever. Runaway radiation from a "metamorpon" reactor imbued Gregor with incredibly powerful shapeshifting abilities, able to take on the physical traits of any creature he could imagine (including "ghosts" and "empty space").

Unfortunately, these powers made him feel like a freak and he blamed Superman for the accident that caused them (namely, saving him from being killed by it). Jan died when Gregor was a teen and named his friend Superman as the boy's guardian. The Man of Steel did his best to teach the newly-named Changeling how to use his powers for good, but the kid was just too angry at the world...until a submarine became stranded at the bottom of the sea of Japan.

With Superman in orbit fixing something Gregor had inadvertently screwed up, his adoptive son borrowed an indestructible costume and shapeshifted his DNA into that of a Kryptonian. He rescued the sub, but his shift hit its time limit before he could resurface. Superman completed the rescue and tried to save the boy, but was too late. He died in Superman's arms, his body shifting one last time - into dust.

"Superman's adoptive son, the shapeshifter powerful enough to become a ghost or a Kryptonian but only for short stretches" is such a cool idea that I am mad no one ever brought him back!

Gregor Nagy is my favorite son of Superman because unlike others who have no powers or the kryptonian/kryptonian like powers, his powerset is completely different. Gregor blames superman for giving him his out of control powers (Superman saved him from a pool that was radioactive or something because his biological dad was running some experiment iirc). Gregor feels he'll always be alone due to the powers but Clark mentions how he relates to that and Gregor laughs it off since Superman is Superman; He then follows Superman and learns his secret identity. But then due to Gregor's actions - Superman is now off planet saving a satellite but at the same time an emergency summons for superman is announced and Gregor uses his powers to become like Superman. Unfortunately he dies saving the people on the ship but at least superman says he was proud of having Gregor as a son before he turns to dust

Alright then, here's the characters, the weapons they use (that's a contributing factor, I'd say), and some details whenever I consider it necessary.

First off, Gwin Evans, 24 years old who uses long swords and assault rifles:

Doug Barret, 30 years old, who uses photon sabres (basically light sabres) and rayguns (also, voiced by Patrick Seitz)

Lao, 31 years old, the Sad™ widower who uses a sniper rifle and javelin (voiced by Matt Mercer)

L'cirufe, the tallest playable character bar none, who uses shields and psycho launchers (kinda like the orbitars in KIU)

Kentaro Nagi, 57 years old, who wields longswords and gattlings guns - the resident Dunban-like swordmaster

Phog Christoph, 24 years old, who uses dual swords and dual guns (also very likely neurodivergent)

Frye Christoph, 30 years old, older brother of Phog, uses gattling guns and longswords, enjoys drinking about as much as Gregor Fire Emblem

Hector Bumwhistle Birthwhistle, or H.B. for short, 28 years old, uses shields and assault rifles

Also of note with H.B. is the Superior Form™:

Bozé Lowes, 54 years old, uses javelins and sniper rifles. Also derogatory, personally.

Yelv (just Yelv, really), 22 years old, uses photon sabres and rayguns. Also enthusiastically calls the player avatar "pardner".

And lastly, Jack Vandham, who's not actually playable and 48 years old.

This is the second time I am answering this because my workplace wifi died as I was publishing it. These are my ratings, which don't mean anything, followed by short commentary.

Gwin: Very Fuckable, acts like he wants to be friends with benefits but always catches feelings. Would I reciprocate? Who knows?

Doug: HOT, we love a guy with a deep voice and light sabers and big guns. It does not get better than that. Hung and everyone can tell.

Lao: Not My Type, but I can easily see him causing multiple fans some terrible mental illnesses. "How big is that dick?" "Small, leave me alone"-type of guy.

L'cirufe: Attractive, monster fans need their rights respected. His face card is NOT declining.

Nagi: HOT. Resident old man whose cervix is being done crazy things to on twitter (or should be). Hung and don't ask me how I can tell.

Phoggot: Eh. Good for him on the neurodivergence but you can meet multiple twinks who look like him at any nightclub.

Frye: Intriguing, looks like someone who lead an interesting life and could surprise you in bed. Further research is needed.

Hbirthwhistleguy: Not My Type, but I'm sure he has quite a reach with fans. I support his Bayonetta 2 cosplay endeavors.

Bozé: Eh, this man will leave you and pretend the child isn't his. Have I played this game and do I know what this guy is about? No, but it had to be said.

Yelv: No, thank you. We have Shulk at home. That man is not 22.

Jack: I Love Arm. I could see him being a secret softie in bed. Spoils you to make up for feelings of inadequacy.

hello i am a fan of z listers (mostly from superman stories). I mean I'm also a fan of a lot of popular characters but z listers are great

Like Kral of Titan - who only appears in one issue. Or Superman's best son Gregor Nagy - who only appears in one issue. Or Kathy Warren, Clark's genius "sister" - who has a very similar origin to the best version of Lena, pre-crisis lena, and only appears twice . Or Marsboy - Clark's first "rival" who only appears thrice. Or Gary the Witchboy - Clark's first friend ever - who only appears thrice. Or Clark's brothers, Cory (appears a bit more than 3 times), Kral, and Mighto (only appears once). Or Dr Metropolis. Or Pops from Captain Atom. Or batboy. Or Superlad. Or Linda lee danvers clone. Or Judy/Equila. Or Orana. Or Ar-Val. Or tlano.

or a bunch of the russian superheros that didn't actually show up much (the group in firestorm, the russian checkmate guy)

D-listers are also cool. I like blue devil (specifically his pre-magic only version...) and amethyst (specifically pre-giffen...)

Oh! And the Weird. His mini was great...

i love being a fan of c-z list characters. i love all these weird little guys who never show up more than once and who you have to explain whenever anyone asks you about them. i do think my definition of "popular character" is very skewed by how much i like them/see them talked about online though; there have been conversations where i'll call ralph dibny a b-lister and have to be very gently told that he really isn't. but there's something about those oddball one-off or two-off characters that i get very attached to. even the side characters in very mainstream and popular-at-the-time books don't get much love (doyle christie from wally's flash run, anyone?) much less, say, starbright from astro city, who has one appearance. maybe that doesn't count because it's a different earth though... either way, big fan of the characters literally no one else on the face of the planet is a fan of.
