sherlock holmes

homosexual, grey-aromantic transmasculine.

sherlock, despite public perceptions, has an absolutely average sex drive, but had never really felt romantic attraction in his life until he met john, and he can't imagine falling in love with anyone else. he spent a fair bit of time on hookup apps prior to meeting john. sherlock is KINKY.

he's known he felt more aligned with masculinity since he was very small, but never felt the need to go on hormones or have surgery, because he finds society's expectations of trans people restrictive and doesn't want surgical recovery to slow him down. he binds (sometimes unsafely, much to john's annoyance), and it does wonders for his dysphoria.

john watson

allo, bi cis man.

dating sherlock from the great game until the fall, and after mary's death. john's romantic attraction STRONGLY leans towards women and femmes, but sherlock is The One for him. he had a purely physical relationship with sholto when he was still in the army.

john's sex drive is actually super high.

mycroft holmes

allo, gay cis man

a lot of people assume mycroft is aro/ace, because he never seems to get himself involved with anyone. mycroft is married to his work, in the truest sense of the word, and simply doesn't have time for sex or relationships.

mycroft is in a bonded pair with his right hand.

greg lestrade

allo, straight cis man. (token cishet white man!)

dating molly, unofficially just after aSiB, officially asked her out in tSoT, when they were tipsy at john & mary's wedding. greg is super comfortable with his sexuality/masculinity and he's experimented plenty. before john & sherlock got together, he kissed john in the pub once, just to see if he'd like it. he had a fling with a bloke in police academy when he was young, but decided in the end that dudes weren't for him. he appreciates beauty in all genders, and isn't afraid to point out an aesthetically pleasing man. he's also VERY much an ally, most of his friends (and his girlfriend,, uwu) are queer. he fiercly protects his queer friends and coworkers.

demisexual, bi, cis woman.

dating greg. is pretty much split 50/50 in her attraction, maybe with a slight lean towards men. even though she's shy, her sexuality is one of the few things she's open and proud about.

haven't really thought about it much, but if there was a gun to my head, i'd say shes a bi cis woman?

mary doesn't like to label anything about herself, much less her sexuality. she goes with the flow.

irene didn't come out until her late 20s, struggled with A LOT of comphet, explaining what she thought was an "attraction" to sherlock. they're seriously just bros now, though.

irene actually couldnt really care less one way or another about how often she has sex, but she knows she's good at it and can use it to make money.

dating sally. anderson is quite insecure in his trans identity and used to be truscum, explaining the animosity between him and sherlock. he blamed himself a lot after the fall, and took a long hard look at himself and his politics, helped along by a kick up the arse from sally.

So- period pieces and uh, period dress right? but like Sherlock 1930s AU ala The Mummy and the English Patient kind of aesthetic. I know the clothing is wildly different I'm a History minor and the WWs are my specialties. Suspend your belief.

I mean, two intellectuals who work for the museum (yikes the British Museum but like, bear with me.) A big game hunter turned paid protection because he came across something he shouldn't have. Former WW1 youngest captain turned museum aid who happens to know the big game hunter who found himself in a spot of trouble.

Mostly it's Mycroft and Lestrade because come on!!!

Mycroft would fucking die of a heart failure due to massive erection.

So. Ideas:

Greg was part of the first war, started back his constabulary career but couldn't do it anymore, then wanted to get away from Britain because he could not stand to be around people that saw him as broken and shell-shocked, turned to hunting solitary or parties to gain money, and it was like the army where it was easy to have a bed fellow for a few nights or weeks over the course of the hunt.

John was alongside Greg for a while in the Army, found out they were probably going to be good friends back home. Addresses and letters and such rot. Felt his field skills as a medic would come in handy as a doctor after the war- he couldn't get anything after his shoulder.

John came with Greg on one hunt, never again from trauma, but he occupied his and Greg's tent and helped tend with camp duties due to injuries, and at night he helped keep their bedrolls warm and their hearts from aching so much.

Mycroft and Sherlock take on roles of researchers at the Museum and the University (cannot be bothered to look up shit rn.) due to their parents being part of both as well, and a few high societies adore their work. Not just Egypt but other ancient works they have studied.

John becomes hired help at the museum, grunt work mainly, carting things, building exhibits, driving pieces from warehouses to the Holmes' and their research desks. His skills as a medic came in handy to help unroll, undo, cut, sew, and direct others in his aid to uncover history.

It was when Lestrade had come back from a hunt cut short, south along the Nile, that John knew something was up.

Greg just needed to point to the newspaper of Mummies being found. "Stumbled upon something untouched. Something no one yet knows about."

This is where Greg is introduced to the Holmes' and finds himself wildly taken with them. Sees that John is in a similar boat, smitten and trying to earn smiles.

"One for each of us mate?" Greg finds himself saying to John while they share John's bed in his flat on campus.

John laughs, eyes crinkling and turns to Greg who's naked and joking with him under the sheets. "I was thinking both for both. One is a handful, I've been trying to juggle both to a horrid success. You coming along as you did today, I've never seen either of them stop what they were doing entirely. And yet you've gone and made them put down their pens just to shake hands. That's a miracle."

So- like, after a few weeks on British soil and prepping and dinners, and flirting like mad. An expedition is set to happen, a few of them, and another trio of female researchers who can most definitely hold their own. Anthea, Sally, and Molly.

It's not long into their trek that a certain feeling blankets them when Mycroft finds, after being invited into the ladies' tent, that it looks as if it's one big sleeping arrangement. And Anthea, who Mycroft knew since the beginning of her working for him at the Museum, was in fact queer, smiled softly. Anthea murmurs "Well, we seem to be pack animals, at least us odd ones. Yourself, your brother-"

And Mycroft nods, "All, so it seems. We tried to keep quiet when switching tents, looks like it needn't matter."

And so things come out around a fire that night, stories, histories, anecdotes, Comfort starts to bleed in their camp. John cradles Mycroft to his chest, leaning back against a rock. Sherlock has Lestrade at his back on a blanket facing the fire. The ladies are huddled together on another blanket.

‘The many times Sherlock talked to Greg in confidence.’ or more widely known as ‘Sherlock is frustrated with his blogger.’

“I need a cigarette.” Sherlock proclaimed as he marched into Gregs flat mid afternoon on a Sunday evening. The visits, while always unannounced were consistent. Every week he would stop by complain about something, drink all the tea and leave. Greg was starting to consider it as Sherlocks form of church, it was somewhat pleasing to think.

“What’s wrong?” Greg returned glancing up from the evening paper, he couldn’t remember when this started but he’d never get tired of the things Sherlock could come up with to complain about. They’d never cease to surprise him.

“John.” The detective replied shortly, slinking into the kitchen and out of Gregs sight. “He’s out again.”

“Out where?” He asked folding the paper up and setting it aside, listening with a sympathetic wince as he heard Sherlock digging through the mug cabinet very loudly.

“With some women.” Sherlock grumbled and came out with a mug of tea in hand. He sat heavily on the couch sloshing some tea onto the floor as he did so, paying no mind to the mess. “She’s all he’ll talk about and it’s all I’ve heard for the last three days. He can’t get his head out of his trousers for two seconds to see the obvious.”

“Which is what?” Greg asked patiently, getting up to get something to clean up the tea albeit begrudgingly. Sherlock had ruined enough of his things as it was with his carelessness.

“That she’s married and has children, not to mention the age gap he’s ignoring.” He huffed putting his feet up onto the couch, shoes still on and Greg could only roll his eyes.

“I don’t think there’s a gap.” He said thoughtfully, the rest less than ideal as he cleaned the mess.

“You met her?” He asked appalled sitting up immediately, giving Greg the oddest of looks.

“Yeah.. I ran into them around Regents yesterday.” Greg replied cleaning up the mess quickly and returning to his seat. “Is that a problem?”

“No...” He slouched down further into his seat his expression darkening and tone deepening.

“Doesn’t sound like it.. Look, you should just tell John about your deductions if you’re worried about it. I’m sure it’s nothing serious.” He watched him somewhat bemused with his behavior. He was actually very protective of John in a way he hadn’t seen him act with anyone else. It was actually rather sweet.

“I’m not worried.” Sherlock said firmly sitting up and setting his mug on the coffee table that had been emptied at some point. “I don’t care what John does with his free time, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the work.”

“And has it?” He pressed knowing sherlock could either get up and leave in a minute or crack amd say what he actually meant, dancing in that line was dangerous.

“Yes!” He sighed and stood up pacing from the window to the door and back again, greg watched him impassively observing. “Twice now he refused to even discuss the case just because of Cathy.” He said her name with dripping distan.

“Why don’t you just talk to him? He can’t read our mind.” Greg pointed out, purposely not mentioning that Sherlock shouldn’t be keeping him from having a date. That might just be too much for him.

“He doesn’t listen to me, I’ve already told him not to waste so much time on useless relationships.” He waved the suggestion off. “I don’t know why he insists on having them anyway when they always fail.”

“It’s human nature Sherlock, everyone has needs. You know you should try it-“

“Please.” He scoffed before he could even finish the thought. “I don’t have any need for such things.”

“So why are you so worried over Johns relationships anyway?” He dared to ask at long last, it was a question that had crossed his mind many times.

“I’m not. It just interferes with the work when he’s distracted.” Sherlock insisted with a huff hardly a second thought to it. “All I need is the work-“

“And John.”

“Yes but- what? No! Absolutely not.” He said firmly sending a glare Gregs way for tricking him into it. “I do not need John Watson.” He proclaimed before storming out of the building in a huff, although sure to return next week.

Greg smiled to himself and shook his head getting up to clean the mug Sherlock left behind. Someday he’d realize that statement wasn’t exactly true and Greg would hear about it on Sunday.
