The flashing neon letters on Artie's telepathy monitor made it entirely unnecessary for the boy, as so often, to try and communicate using sign language. He shifted his feet impatiently, greedily eyeing the weapon in Everett's hands. Now that Everett had – very reluctantly – given in with regard to at least a few elementary lessons in attack and defense for his fortunately usually very pacifist stepbrother, Artie visibly couldn't wait to make himself useful with something other than dull office work on Watergate for a change.

As little as Everett still liked the idea, and though he'd continue to carefully make sure that Artie would stay out of all active combat as much as possible ... In view of the news about certain killer viruses that some sick freaks were releasing on mutant shelters, it might not be such a bad idea for Artie to know how to use a rifle in case of an extreme emergency.

“Fine. But be careful.” Everett was especially unwilling to let go of his latest acquisition, but when Artie looked up at you with these huge white, pleading pupils, even the most hardened trainer would melt away. He came to stand almost at zero distance to his stepbrother and handed him the silver weapon almost longer than Artie's arms.

A green checkmark of confirmation in the shimmering square above Artie's head confirmed that the little one had taken note of the warning, and the necessary calmness now settled in his tall body too when he looked up at the sky. An unfamiliar, morbid kind of fascination was in his eyes when he scanned the starry firmament. Impatience, lingering aggression after this alarming news regarding Alaska that had arrived that afternoon via a certain spy line.

Despite his concern, Everett couldn't help but be proud about this sudden effort. Why not? Let Artie learn to defend himself a little better against the world out there that hated people like the two of them, than those bootlicking softies in Artie's old home, who were waiting between the secure walls of this posh mansion in Westchester for someone like Mystique to celebrate her great triumph, without being too keen on actually doing something for it themselves every now and then. “Slowly,” he warned Artie when he could tell by the growing tension in the kid's arms under his gentle guidance that Artie was about to pull the trigger already. ”Track the target. Remember you always need to think a few seconds faster than your victim.”

Another affirmative telepathic checkmark, accompanied by an eager nod. Artie turned aside as if in slow motion, just a little ... Then he pulled the trigger.

A seagull screamed a few miles away – then there was almost complete silence again as the night began to settle on the observation deck.

Artie bounced a little, his arm raised high, an emoji in the shape of fireworks on his soul screen, followed by the caricature of a bird from some video game not quite that fresh looking.

“Killing chicks. How brave,” an amused-sounding female voice behind them, with an unpleasant shrillness in it, commented.

With a single hand movement, even while still startling around, Everett had pushed Artie behind him and yanked a second, far more outdated pistol from his belt. This was a voice he didn't recognize, and he knew everyone on this damn base. That meant danger for more than one reason. He had upgraded the previously rather rudimentary security systems of this building complex single-handedly when Artie and he had joined the Brotherhood. No one entered or left Watergate without him noticing. Not only did the cameras installed at the tops of the mile-high towers surrounding all parts of the building provide seamless surveillance of the airspace, but the lenses and scanners on each of the dozens of tons that Everett had personally placed in the surrounding ocean also reported every approach to him, no matter how inconspicuous. Whoever had tricked all these precautions, it had to be a damn powerful someone.

“How did you get in here?”

“Ever heard of the speed of sound?” The tall stranger with the strawberry blonde hair took off at a speed that could hardly be seen with the naked eye, circled the facility faster than it was possible to follow with only your gaze, and landed in front of them again. ”Is this enough of an application, or do I need to e-mail a résumé first?”

Artie gasped audibly, and Everett didn't even need to see the now pitch-black exclamation mark in a red triangle on his monitor to be just as unhappy about the visitor, whose identity was now obvious. Even as the one between them who hadn't grown up with those idealistic idiots of Xavier's, he should have understood immediately. “Go,” Everett Artie ordered sharply, without lowering his pistol, still aimed at the stranger's heart even an inch. ”Tell Mystique we have an uninvited guest from your youth.”

Artie pouted in offense but quickly left. He had learned long before he'd even come to live with Everett's parents, right after his last ordeal in a state foster care home, to recognize an absolute tone of command when he heard one. And above all, to act on it.

“I didn't know my reputation extended that far,” the stranger remarked, feigning to be impressed.

“The data archive of the Brotherhood's enemies is extremely extensive, Miss Cassidy.” Everett's weapon was released with an audible metallic click. Now he was cursing himself for giving in to Artie insisting on a training session today after all, on the deck, of all places. In a potential fight on slippery ground and with poor visibility, he would possibly be inferior to such a powerful mutant, as much as he disliked to admit it.

“Good to know, at least someone here knows how to do their homework given that Mystique's people usually aren't oozing competence.” For now, Theresa wasn't making any move to attack him though. Whatever the girl wanted here, she apparently wanted to present peacefully for the time being. “Can you put that stupid gun away, Synch? You seriously think you can even tickle me with it before I dodge? I could have screamed you out of the sky with one of your jets days ago if I'd felt like it.”

Everett let the rainbow-colored aura of his gift glow around his body for barely a split second, in order to borrow the super speed of a certain brat of a former Brotherhood leader from afar, pulled the trigger of his gun without hesitation, and shot the stranger in the thigh, causing her to crash to the ground with a surprised gasp. So much for superior speed. Even the most creative mutations were of no use if they weren't paired with the necessary caution. “Try, and I'll be happy to show you how quickly vocal cords can be ripped apart telepathically. One of your former teachers should still remember that quite well.” His own thoughts were no longer really with the conversation though. Days ago? That meant that the girl must have spied on them all unseen, that she might know about Mystique's most secret plans. Everett's instincts had reacted before he'd even thought the matter through to the end. His free hand was already reaching for the energy handcuffs on his belt.

For now, that girl wasn't going – or flying – anywhere. Whatever she wanted, she could tell Mystique in a prison cell.

Everett's eyes widened in awe when his enemy, clenching her teeth, yanked the bullet out of her flesh and tied the ugly wound with a strip of fabric torn from her sleeve, without even flinching. Maybe they did learn a little more at Mutant High than falling to their knees for normal people for regularly trying to wipe out the mutant world, with little regard for collateral damage like Artie and Everett's unenhanced parents.

Fine, then he should probably better go the invisible route before the girl might actually raise her voice to an even more painful frequency. Everett feverishly tried to come up with a dream image that would shut the girl up as quickly as possible, already focusing on the abilities of the next best telepath in the area, and cursed silently when the enemy opened their mouth again. Fortunately, he didn't need to rush into his next plan, thereby wasting his powers unnecessarily.

Another attack hit the uninvited visitor between the shoulder blades. This time it was a barbed missile. Now, too, Theresa only startled again, as if she'd been bitten by an insect, and rolled her eyes demonstratively, turning halfway around to the slender, naked silhouette in the doorway leading to the main building. Artie had been quick. Just for a second, the girl let Everett and Mystique out of her sight, her arm twisting back to pull this projectile out of her skin as well. Before she could even touch it, she suddenly collapsed with a loud scream. The fabric of her yellow-and-black uniform top began to liquefy along with her skin. Inches-thick streaks of a viscous material were released from Mystique's missile and began to dig into Theresa's skin like acid.

“I'd really love to know what keeps making people like you think you're welcome here.” Mystique approached her victim with a blank stare, silent on her feet, her catapult ready to land a second strike if necessary. “You really think I didn't know you were sneaking around here? Your skid marks in the air are ruining the view from my bedroom.” She swung and kicked her victim, who was writhing on the ground, harshly in the side. The extremely satisfying crack of a fractured rib, mixed with another muffled scream, had a bit of Everett's anger dissolve. An unpleasant little episode, nothing more. These days, the Brotherhood knew how to defend itself even against very capable mutants. “Unpleasant, isn't it?” Raven bent over Theresa with an almost pitying smile, watching with satisfaction as the liquid spread further and further over the girl's back, drawing ever deeper lines, until the pain took her victim's breath away, her powerful body wracked by violent spasms, her eyes bulging. “Fortunately, one of our newest warriors has access to a few relics from the space traveler repertoire. We like to experiment with it a little, in case we have to deal with someone from Westchester. The Shi'ar call it Imear. The sucker. Organic material that eats through living tissue until it encounters dead tissue.” Her fingertips grasped Theresa's chin and turned the girl's head towards her. ”I've been told, that can take days.”

“I'm here to help you people out, you stupid bitch!“ Theresa managed to get out with difficulty between increasingly louder, tortured groans.

“Sure you do.” Raven hooked her fingertips into the end of the barb and pulled it a little towards her with relish, letting it snap back, visibly enjoying her victim's choked scream. “And why should I be listening to any of the X-Men for even half a minute?” Everett was close enough to his leader to listen to what was being said, with his weapon still in his hand, and had sufficient vision thanks to the night lighting, so he could see only too well that despite the usual aggression towards her old enemies, at least a spark of interest lit up in Mystique's yellow-brown pupils. She had no reason to trust the girl even for a nanosecond, but unfortunately, it was also a fact that there was one single factor she could not include in her almost perfect plan for the immediate future of the mutant world. And that, of all things, was the most unpredictable one.

Unfortunately, her guest seemed to know that too. “Because you need me to keep the X-Men in check. Someone who knows exactly how things in Westchester work. Have you been there recently? They have some impressive talents in their new team. And in case you haven't noticed, I'm no longer one of them. You start to shit on such loyalties pretty quickly when they kill your father.”

“You're just as clueless as your good old friends,” Mystique snarled. ‘We're enough to crush these maggots with our left hand. It's been long since the Brotherhood has needed to take chances on defectors.”

“Still pouting about that guy from Cyclops’ past that Magneto had hired back in the day? I could be wrong, but as far as I know, that dude did you people a pretty big favor back then, before he bit it, and he didn’t even ask to be paid for it,” Theresa spat, still severely restricted in her breathing and movement, but at least she seemed to have found a way to push even this terrible pain far enough out of her consciousness to communicate. Everett couldn't deny that he was more and more impressed. “Me, I'm not interested in the infant shit that guy's been up to back then. I have nothing more to do with the X-Men. They can't even control their own equipment enough to not shoot their own allies, so what am I supposed to do at theirs? Change diapers and fall into depression about how evil normal people are? I'm more interested in a place in your Senate once you've taken over the world.”

Mystique exchanged a restless glance with Everett. The girl knew everything, damnit. Apparently including things that might actually be useful – even necessary – for their plans. “I don't have time for this nonsense.” Once again, Mystique took a strong swing and knocked her guest unconscious with a fierce blow to their neck. Visibly reluctant, she rummaged for a syringe in one of her flesh pouches on her left leg and thrust it into the shiny, jet-black liquid on Theresa's back, her lips tight. Another relic from a certain Shi'ar warehouse in Kenya; the only serum able to have even an Imear blackout. Immobilized, not dead yet. Both creatures. “Lock her up and paralyze her vocal cords with a tranq serum so she won't cause any trouble. And make sure she doesn't bite it yet. I need to ask the girl a few questions.”

Everett had only a weak smile for this optimistic plan to spare. In some ways, despite all her intelligence, outstanding powers, and mental strength, you could tell that Mystique had never really enjoyed proper military training. “And you think she'll tell you the truth?”

“Either that or she dies, just like her loser of a father.” Raven looked at the mutant at her feet with a slow shake of her head. ”I want to know what she's really up to. If I can get her under control, I won't have to worry about Westchester anytime soon.”

“Not that I'm questioning your decisions, Boss ...” Everett absently let the barrel of his gun slip through his fingertips and frowned discontentedly when he spotted Artie in the shadows of the entrance.

The boy should have left … Oh well, at least he'd learned another lesson this way. One that was vital for survival in the Brotherhood.

“But doesn't trying to use anyone connected to Xavier's people end badly almost every time?”

“Let's just say ...” Raven slowly let her gaze wander over her captive again, and this time there was a hint of satisfaction in them. “I have more convincing methods these days. I need to leave. Call me as soon as the others return from Alaska.”

This week had been awful. You got home from work, tossing your keys and bag haphazardly on to the table by the door, going directly to the kitchen for a glass of wine. Just something to soothe the frayed nerves. At least you were going to FaceTime with Jamie tonight. He was away in Europe filming a new movie, while you stayed home in LA. It had been about 2 weeks now, out of 6 he would be gone, and you wanted nothing more than to just cuddle up with him.

After slipping into some comfy clothes, a pair of shorts and one of Jamie's shirts, you poured another glass of wine and got comfy on the couch, eagerly awaiting the sound of your phone ringing. Finally, his icon popped up as your phone rang and you smiled wide as you hit the green checkmark, pulling up Jamie's live video.

"Hello my love!" He waved on your tiny screen.

"Hi baby! How are you doing?" You smiled back.

"I'm good, yeah. Just had a shower and relaxing with some tea. How about you?"

You held up your glass of wine, pouting. Jamie laughed.

"Oh, no. Tough day again too?" He asked matching your downturned lips.

"Probably the worst of the week, honestly. Someone side swiped my car. The whole side is dented and the paint taken off. They didn't even leave a note or anything. I mean, insurance will cover it...but still, are you kidding me?" You rolled your eyes, taking a sip of your glass.

"Oh, god...I'm sorry, darling. You've really had a shocker of a week, huh?"

You nodded. "Messed up that big project at work, spilled coffee all over my new white shirt, broke my favorite necklace you gave me, Stephanie is mad at me for who knows what, now my car...a week from hell."

"Well, at least the week is over now. You made it through, love." He smiled.

You inhaled and exhaled smiling back. "Yeah...I wish you were here though. You always make everything better. I miss you."

"I miss you too, darling. I'm sorry I'm not there." He frowned.

"No, no it's okay. You're working, being the best actor in the world and all." You giggled.

He chuckled. "Oh, don't try to flatter me...you know my ego is big enough."

Talking to Jamie made you feel a lot better. Or maybe it was the wine. Or both. But you went to bed that night feeling a little better at least.

The next morning, you decided you would be active, as it was a lovely day. A leisurely bike ride sounded good...until it wasn't.

"Hi baby, what's up? Jamie said picking up the phone, sounding cheery.

You sniffled. "I'm in the ER."

"What?! What happened, are you okay?" He exclaimed.

"I'm okay, I just...I went for a bike ride this morning." You sniffled again. "And I don't know what happened, I must have hit a patch of something and I fell off. I think I broke my arm."

"Oh...my love...you poor thing. Ugh..." You didn't see, as you were having a regular phone call, so Jamie wouldn't see your puffy, red eyes from crying, but he ran his hand over his face. "Well, keep me updated, okay? I can come home if you need me to-"

"No, no." You shook your head. "No, you're working. I'll be okay. I just wanted to let you know- oh, the doctor's here. I'll call you back. I love you."

"I love you too, darling." The two of you hung up.

After a series of x-rays, it was determined you had indeed broken your arm, in two places. You were put into a sling for the next week, before you could get into the orthopedic specialist to be fitted for a full cast. You texted Jamie, slowly, with your non-dominant hand, to let him know the deal. He offered again to come home, but you wouldn't dream of making him do that, filming has only just started anyway.

After a couple days at home, the limitations that your injury imposed became incredibly frustrating. Since it was your dominant hand, even simple tasks were a struggle. You called Jamie this morning, just needing to talk.

"I just want to wash my hair!" You whimpered on the phone to Jamie. "I can't even put it up in a ponytail. I feel so gross, I just want to wash my hair." You wiped a tear.

"Baby...I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I love you so much." Jamie comforted you as you vented and cried before he had to leave to get back to set.

You spent the rest of the day sulking on the couch watching trash TV. Eventually, at some point you fell asleep watching the dull, plot-lacking reality shows. You awoke several hours later, hearing your door open and then close. You shot up, eyes fixed toward the sound of footsteps coming closer. Your hear pounded, mentally preparing yourself to be met with an intruder since you weren't expecting anyone. Your fear quickly flipped to surprise when you saw Jamie's face come around the corner. He stopped and immediately smiled when his eyes met yours. You blinked, wondering if you were maybe just dreaming.

"Jamie? But how did...when did...w-what are you doing here?"

"I'll come running whenever you need me. Even if we're across oceans." He smiled. "I was already on my way here when you called earlier, I was on a layover in New York.. When I said I had to get back to set, I was boarding my flight."

Your mouth hung open for a moment. "I don't deserve you, you angel man. I really don't." You shook your head, laughing lightly, eyes welling.

"So, would you like some help washing your hair, beautiful?" He smiled.

You nodded, allowing him to help you up as you both made your way to the bathroom. You turned to him as he reached to get the water running in the tub.

"I love you, thank you for always being there for me." You hugged him with your good arm.

"I always will be." He smiled, placing a kiss to your temple.

"I know, right? I'm so proud of her," Hongjoong grins.

"Dang, I wonder how her mom will react to that," San hums.

"Why would you ask that, dude?" Wooyoung shakes his head.

"Well, she is my cousin," San shrugs. Again, the loudest silence.

"You're related?!" Wooyoung shouts.

"Yeah, she's like my second cousin twice removed or something like that," San says slightly defensively, as if he were expecting it to be obvious.

"Wait, so you weren't really meeting with (Y/N) in secret then, it was just you visiting your cousin?" Seonghwa asks. San nods.

"Yeah, our moms always tell us to check in on each other," San nods. "So, yeah, I knew about Sae's girlfriend before any of you guys," he says with a sudden burst of confidence.

"Who is it, then?" Mingi asks.

"Ay, yo, that's none of my business to be sharing," San seals his lips.

"We need to focus!" Hongjoong claps his hands. "We can deal with this sudden unexpected plot twist after (Y/N) is safe," he starts his presentation. "We were lucky enough that Seonghwa happens to have history with her stalker."

"It's always hyung," Yeosang scoffs.

"So problematic," Wooyoung eggs on.

"One of us should date her instead," San teases.

"It's not my fault an old acquaintance of mine is obsessed!" Seonghwa defends.

"Anyway," Hongjoong speaks over them, "those are the main points of the plan. But, we're technically doing this... well, alone. So if at any point you don't feel safe, Seonghwa, just run, leave, and don't risk anything," Hongjoong insists.

"I'm starting to have so many doubts," Mingi frowns. "Like... he's already stalking our friends, what if he does something dangerous?" He worries. At that moment, everyone received a notification on their phones from an unknown number.

'Go ahead with the plan. You have insurance.'

"Uh... should we report this?" Yunho asks, looking over at Jongho's phone to clarify that they all got the same message.

'I'm on your side. I also sent information to the club.'

"Oh! You're the one who sent us that creepy letter!" Wooyoung says to particularly no one. "Holy shit, yeah, we should report this."

'You should. Someone bugged the blonde one's phone.'

"Yeosang?!" Everyone gasped and Yeosang dropped his phone.

'The other one.'

"Yunho!" Everyone's attention turns to him and he frowns.

"Thank you, scary person who has all of our numbers and can hear everything we're saying," Wooyoung smiles.

'I suggest getting a good security program installed on your phone. I can send you the one a lot of idols are using.'

"Wow, help a lot of idols?" Hongjoong asks.

'I have a lot of clients in the business.'

"Like?" Mingi asks.

'Private information.'

"I figured," his shoulders slumped. "Well, hyung, good luck," Mingi offers a supportive pat on Seonghwa's shoulders. Yunho grabs the keys.

"Let's do this!"

"I'll report your phone," Hongjoong holds his hand out and Yunho places it in his.

"Use mine, meanwhile!" Wooyoung offers.

"Thanks!"

"Ah!" Yunho drops it.

"Why aren't any of you careful with your phones?!" Hongjoong shouts.

"Well, obviously, we didn't know!"

Kanghoon could only watch with bated breath. Strange how easy it was to resolve this compared to other jobs he'd taken on before, then again, you had an insane amount of luck. Lucky that you had good people supporting you, lucky you had someone already a step ahead of you, and lucky that those people had the resources to make this easy.

Honestly, he would've done it himself. But, he was curious how this would turn out. Curious to see if it would work or not.

Plus. He was getting paid for all of this.

"Well, I guess this means I have to get ready," Kanghoon stands up from his desk, shutting off the computer in front of him, and pulling his jacket on.

"Ah! hyung, you're here!" Kyungjae's eyes were practically beaming when he opened the door. Seonghwa only smiled.

"Yeah, I had to come visit my favorite junior eventually, right? Sorry, I've been so busy, hyung couldn't even help you move in earlier," Seonghwa stepped inside as Kyungjae allowed him to. All those years of variety practice have finally begun to pay off.

"Please, have a seat! I'll be right back! Sorry, I didn't think you'd arrive so soon," Kyungjae picks up a few scattered items in the room and runs off. Seonghwa, meanwhile, makes himself comfortable on the couch. Okay, go time. The only trouble was that everything looked like a normal apartment, if anything, it looked a little bare, almost right out of one of those design magazines. Aside from the bathroom, it was just a one-room studio. No doubt the couch he sat on doubled as Kyungjae's bed. Again, his phone went off and now an unknown ID flashed on the screen. He pressed his lips together and answered it.

Well, might as well. Seonghwa opened the drawers on the table next to him. Cigarettes, mail, and candy wrappers, but not much else. Even the drawers under it had nothing of note. It was just a normal apartment.

"Hello?" Seonghwa's voice was low.

"Hey, it's me!" Your voice graces him once again. "Sorry, I'm using Winter's phone, I'm waiting for her to get ready so we can grab coffee! Don't worry, she gave me her blessing to call you. But be warned! Ningning and Giselle are in the room too."

"Oh, that's fine. But hey, sorry, I'm a bit busy right now, but I can talk," Seonghwa continues to rifle through drawers.

"Ooh, what's up?" You asked.

"Well, now that I have you here, I'd might as well tell you," Seonghwa looks to the bathroom. No sign of Kyungjae. "I'm, uh... I'm at Kyungjae's place." You were silent. "I know I should've talked to you first about it but-"

"It's okay, but are you safe? There's no telling what he'd do to you."

"I mean, we used to be friends before, so I don't think he'd do anything too rash."

"Rash? You going to my stalker's apartment is rash, Seonghwa, do you at least have a plan? I don't want you getting hurt because of something that's my problem!" Your voice was laced with concern, and he couldn't blame you for it. "Look, I'm not mad, I'm just worried. Please be careful. Any sign of trouble and you run, okay? Let my company handle it."

"Okay, I'll be careful, I promise," Seonghwa says.

"Good, call me when you get home safe."

"I will." You hung up first. Evidence, he can't forget the reason why he was here in the first place. What's something, anything, that looks suspicious. Then, as if there was a spotlight on it, he got up and walked over to the bookshelf. Ominously, one of the shelves was obscured by a small curtain. Seonghwa looked over his shoulder to make sure Kyungjae was still doing whatever in the bathroom before pulling the curtain aside.

"Ho...ly shit," his jaw nearly drops. The entire wall of the shelf was lined with photocards, your photocards, all protected with sleeves and in pristine condition. Decorated on the shelf were every single one of your albums, specifically your versions. Photobooks, jewel cases, and even your magazine covers were there. Any single merchandise that had ever been released with your name or face was there. But, that wasn't even the most concerning thing. In all of your album covers with the ANiMA member or the NCThree members, the other members' faces were scratched out. Shivers ran down Seonghwa's spine while he took steps back.

"Everything alright, hyung?" Seonghwa was quick to turn around.

"All good!" Coast was clear.

"Sorry! This damn washing machine won't work!" After a few clangs of metal, Kyungjae is silent again with no signs of leaving. Seonghwa fell back on the couch and texted the picture to the group chat.

More evidence, what can be more incriminating than what he just saw? Sure, he's your number one fan, but to go as far as to make some shrine for you? He wouldn't do that even as a joke. Seonghwa felt like he was at a loss. At this rate, anyone could just argue that Kyungjae was a huge fan of yours. Maybe they really should just let the company handle it. Then, he heard the sound of something vibrating. He turned his phone over but, still, no texts or calls. Even Kyungjae's phone on the counter was silent. He listened carefully for where it was coming from. Then, he reached under the couch. Nothing. But he couldn't ignore his hunch. He got down onto the floor and shone his flashlight under the couch. Then, pushed against the wall, a shoebox. The sound had to be coming from there. Seonghwa reached under and pulled the box toward him. But, soon, he heard Kyungjae opening the bathroom door. Seonghwa sat on the couch.

"Sorry about that, hyung, ready to go?" Kyungjae asks.

"Yeah, let's head out," Seonghwa kept his voice steady and he stood up. Just then, a knock at the door. "You invited another person?"

"Uh... no," Kyungjae opened the door. A taller man stood before him, baseball cap obscuring his face.

"Package for Jeon Kyungjae?" The man's voice was gruff.

"I didn't order anything," Kyungjae makes a move to shut the door.

"Uh, it says it's from a Juliet?" Seonghwa's ears perked at that name. The air in the apartment stilled. "It's a big package, so we had to leave it downstairs, mind helping me bring it up?" The man continues.

"Hyung, I'll be back, it should be quick," Kyungjae rushes out the door. But the man remains for a moment longer. Seonghwa couldn't tell who it was under his hat. The man reached up and tipped the brim of his hat to him and shut the door.

Well, now's a chance more than ever. Seonghwa pulled the shoebox out and placed it on the coffee table. The vibrating started again and, when the box moved slightly on the table, it was proof enough that Seonghwa's hunch had to be right. He pulled the top off and, immediately, his heart stopped. In the box was a grouping of items. A crumpled pantyhose, lip brushes, lipsticks, a ribbon, bundles of hair, and, this one was the most important, a phone.

Your phone.

And the ID on it?

Liu Yangyang. Seonghwa took it and answered it, he wasn't surprised to hear Yangyang's voice on the other end.

"Ha! You finally picked up you sick motherfucker just you wait until I find out who you are-"

"Yangyang."

"I'm gonna- holy shit," Yangyang's end went silent. "Seonghwa?! You're the one who stole (Y/N)'s phone?! I didn't peg you for the obsessive boyfriend type."

"No, Yangyang, that's not what's going on here. I'm at Kyungjae's apartment."

"I fucking knew it! I told all of these people that Kyungjae was the one who took it but no one believed me!" Yangyang's voice was intentionally much louder, no doubt announcing it to whoever else was in the room. "Look, (Y/N) is out with Winter right now, but I bet she'd be so glad to know her phone's in safe hands. Still though, you're bold to have marched into enemy territory like that. You have my respect, always have actually."

"Yeah, I have to admit I got lucky, if a package for Kyungjae didn't arrive just now then I'd be in trouble. I found it in a box with a few other things."

"... What other things?"

"Uh..." Seonghwa listed them out, Yangyang remaining silent the entire time.

"Oh shit... oh shit... oh shit!" Yangyang cursed multiple times. "Seonghwa, you need to take pictures of those right now and call the cops. This is it! You got him!" Yangyang's voice had a new fervor in it.

"That's the plan," Seonghwa takes a picture of the box before closing it and shoving it back under the couch. "I'll drop by the dorms later to return it."

"You are a life saver, for all of us. There's shit on that phone no one is meant to see," Yangyang says. "Be safe and be careful!"

"Thanks, I will!" Seonghwa hangs up first, just in time for someone to bang on the door. Seonghwa opens it and is greeted by a police officer.

"You Park Seonghwa?" He asks.

"Yes, sir," Seonghwa swallows harshly.

"You're clear to go, we're just going to do a search on the place," the officer says. Seonghwa steps aside and a few other officers file in. Seonghwa only caught small parts of their conversation on his way out, but the words that stuck out to him were the ones he expected: Stalking, theft, and assault. Seonghwa shuddered again.

He used to know Kyungjae, who would've thought that he'd end up this way? Seonghwa was out of the apartment now, and he hadn't seen Kyungjae at all until now, seeing him being escorted into a police vehicle. Kyungjae didn't even notice him there, and the car took off before Seonghwa could say anything. But there was one thing that Seonghwa noticed. Leaning against the wall of the apartment with a cigarette in his mouth, the delivery man. His hat was still tipped downward, and his gaze was anyone's guess.

"Hyung! Are you okay?" Yunho's car screeches to a stop in front of Seonghwa. Seonghwa spared one last glance at the man before ducking into the car.

"I'm good, and looks like the cops got to Kyungjae before anyone else did," he says.

"That's good! One less thing we have to worry about," Yunho sighs with relief. "Well, where to next, boss?"

"NCT Dorms, I'll just drop off (Y/N)'s phone there and then we can head back."

"Yes, boss!"

Hello everyone,

it has been quite a while since we made an official announcement, since most things are currently happening on Discord, but we felt obligated to report the newest changes here as well!

✦ FIRST CHANGE: SOFT ARRIVAL SYSTEM.

At the beginning, members would have to wait for their characters to be approved to write. We have changed this and decided to implement the Soft Arrival System. Characters on the waitlist, that have now the Status PENDING, and have been reacted with a green checkmark, have been approved to the group and sorted into a room.

Once we collected a fair share of members that have passed the soft arrival process, we will make or usual Major Arrival Announcement, and any pending characters will be listed for all to see who new has joined, while some have snuck in in the meantime.

We implemented this system solely to not keep people waiting, while our schedules could be very stuffed with other matters.

✦ SECOND CHANGE: TUATHA SOCIAL.

Tuatha Social is basically the In-Server Microblogging Platform for the citizens. Every member can make their own account and post their In-Character activities, pictures, poetries, and whatnot.

February Activity Check: Since February has been quite a difficult month for some of us, we decided to sleep on it and resume it for March.

Spring Cleaning: Once in a while we do a little spring cleaning on the server and remove DMs and threads of people that have left or muses that have been dropped.

OOC Bot Arcade: Mod Anemone is working on bringing some game bots in the server. Nothing too big, but still worth mentioning.

Updates on the Character and Canon Caps: The current character cap is 15, while the canon cap has been raised to 5.

Ship wall: The ship wall has been made interactive and is now a google doc! Members can add their own ships if need be, add planned ships or hinted/inofficial ships and more!

New Event: I don't want to spoil too much about the new event, all I can say, however, that it will be a little darker than usual, and it will also be a little lore-related. More about that when the time is come. The event is set to come online sometime in the Month of March.

New Area/s: One area is currenly planned. It is not going to be a residental area, but more of a nice hangout spot.

More lore-related events: Tuatha Lore has been in the making for months now; and we want to implement more things while at it.

I like watching video essays on game design, reading articles, and also making my own tabletop/card games. That said, as someone who works for an actual game developer, there is one thing I feel like I've learned more from doing than by researching. Making games is a very delicate balance of incentives, rewards, and difficulty. To make a long story short, we think of all content in the game somewhere on a spectrum from "required to proceed" and "optional." But how do you decide what should be required and what should be optional? Actually, how do you decide what should be in the game at all or scrapped.

As a player, I used to assume that if a developer came up with an idea, felt that it was pretty good, there was ample time to implement it, and players or testers liked it, then they would definitely put it in the game. What could go wrong? Why would you leave something decent on the cutting room floor?

Decent isn't always good enough. And it can lead to a bad player experience in unexpected ways.

The big thing to keep in mind is the concept of completionism. Some players are completionists, who enjoy clearing and viewing as much of the game's content as possible. I used to think this was a very silly and niche thing to do, but I now understand it as a hobby that can be very relaxing or fulfilling to people.

This is huge. Because it means if you put something in your game, no matter how trivial or optional you make it, there are some players who will feel obligated to do it. Go ask the people who got 999 Power Moons in Mario Odyssey.

And if you're putting something in the game and unintentionally nudging players to do it, it better be good.

You will think that you have an excuse. "Well, doing that challenge is optional, so what does it matter? Don't complain about it." But being optional doesn't make a difference to fans of your game who want to play it a bunch and see all the optional content. To them, it isn't really optional, is it?

Then there's another issue: if there's an optional challenge in your game, is there a reward for completing it? If so, what's the reward? A new character? A new game mode? A cosmetic unlock? An achievement?

Young me, foolish as he was, thought that it was smart game design to reward players who conquer challenges with a good reward. Something substantial. THAT WAS COMPLETELY WRONG.

You shouldn't be worried about people who spend 10 hours trying to beat an optional boss battle and then "only get an achievement and a special helmet." You should be worried about how many hundreds or thousands of players you are baiting into trying the super-hard boss by putting "unlocks new character class" behind it. You're better off with the achievement!

Super-hard, niche, optional activities should be rewarded with tiny, niche rewards. People who subject themselves to that should be doing those things mostly for intrinsic value like pride, satisfaction, and bragging rights. If you lock your good content behind these things, people won't see it as optional. Players who aren't at that skill level (or don't have the time to grind or explore for 80 hours) will be desperate to try to get the new characters or modes.

Even acknowledging an accomplishment at ALL, even with a tiny star icon or a green checkmark or a thumbs up, is an incentive that pushes the player into bashing their head against a task. So be careful!!! As a developer, it may be more responsible to not make any in-game acknowledgement of people doing very esoteric challenging things. This even goes for putting in optional bonus levels, which you see as optional but certain players will force themselves to beat.

Anything that isn't that should be made optional, and incentivized appropriately.
