This popular Greek song is a response to the more recent femicide in Greece
Let the state tremble, let the roads be closed May whoever dares to raise a hand tremble They take our carefreeness by force They planted fear in us but wings grew And every minute of almost every day We mourn a daughter sister and mother In one night they make us vanish Anyone silent is an accomplice, as they eradicate us For those nights when I walked alone At the sight of a figure my blood freezes For all the hands that grip keys We all become a fist! You have no right over my body, You don't have a say in where I go and what I do Pain and violence are not love We all respond if you touch one And if you didn't pay attention to these lyrics They say that I am still here by pure chance In fury I sing, hear me all The city burn if I don't come home
My name is Anissa, Caroline, and Eleni I was killed by the system that launders them (our criminals) I am Jevrie, Zaki, Maria Nektaria, Anthe, Zoe, Adamantia In my name write news, history
For those nights when I walked alone At the sight of a figure my blood freezes For all the hands that grip keys We all become a fist! You have no right over my body, You don't have a say in where I go and what I do Pain and violence are not love We all respond if you touch one

Please watch this. This traumatized girl is a survivor of the 2nd carriage. Dina, your courage is admirable, and we thank you for your courage to keep talking about an experience that no one should be reminded of ever.
In her voice echo the last moments of 57 people. Innocent, all going home to their families. People whose last messages to their loved ones was "I'll call you when I get there." And they never did. They didn't get to kiss their mom's goodbye, get hugged by their fathers when they got home. That morning, some kitchens were devoid of parents making their kids' breakfast. Some dogs never got to wag their tails at the jingle of keys at the door, because simply some people never got to return to their homes.
The devoted say that Heaven gained 57 Angels that night, but I hate to say that 57 empty caskets were returned to the Earth.
Bodies covered in concrete, in the attempted cover-up that took years to be revealed.
We don't forget we don't forgive.

This variation of the greek flag was recently shown in the Greek Consulate in Manhattan, made by Georgia Lale (they/them), created from bedsheets sent from various women in Greece. According to the artist, these women have very little (or nothing) in common except for the fact that they have all lied in these sheets anxious and afraid. It's in honor of the women who were victims of femicide and domestic violence, a phenomen that's becoming more and more talked about in the greek public. The bedsheets have been dyed pink as if they've been stained with blood.

However recently the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Gerapetritis, demanded it be taken down as he (and other right-wing politicians) found offence to this piece being shown in the Consulate. It has since been taken down as it was claimed the flag is too sacred to be changed and the only blood that stains it is that of "the country's heroes". Some left-wing politicians have spoken out about the censorship and Georgia Lale (the artist) has said "I'm saddened that my work was misinterpreted. Victims of femicide are heroes of the fight for freedom and life in Greece and internationally." on instagram
The flag was part of an exhibition called "Neighborhood Guilt" you can read more here:
And a speech by the artist:

Translation:
The young police editor Απόστολος Φουρνατζόπουλος of kontra channel who came out with courage , live transmitions and reports and exposed the Greek police for acts of arbitrary violence and brutal repression, corruption and illegality
was found last week dead on a high voltage electricity pole in palio Faliro
The police at first said that it was a g6psy who climbed the pole to steal the copper cables, now the Greek police is talking about suicide
This is a very standard way of committing suicide (sarcasm), in the country that competes with Colombia in organized crime..... (The author's comment)
That was not only a public execution but also a warning for reporters to stay out of those matters (my comment)

Greece’s Mitsotakis reshuffles government amid declining public support
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a cabinet reshuffle in an effort to reset his government’s image as public opinion continues to turn against him, according to Euractiv.
The move comes amid a sharp decline in support for his New Democracy party, fueled by widespread dissatisfaction over the handling of a deadly train crash that killed 57 people, mostly young students, earlier this year.
The government narrowly survived a no-confidence vote last week, brought forward by opposition parties accusing it of covering up the causes of the train crash. Polls indicate that most Greeks believe the government is shielding politicians responsible for the disaster.
Major cabinet changes
Christos Dimas, current Deputy Economy Minister, a member of the new generation of politicians, has been appointed Transport Minister. The move is seen as an effort to address public anger over the train crash and improve the government’s handling of transportation safety.
Konstantinos Kyranakis, a young member of the party’s conservative wing, has been promoted to a more prominent role. He is expected to defend the government’s actions in public debates and help stem the erosion of support to the right.
Kyriakos Pierrakakis, new Economy Minister, comes from a socialist background but is considered a liberal politician with high popularity within the government. His appointment may signal a focus on economic stability and reform.
Makis Voridis has been named Migration Minister. His appointment is aimed at curbing voter drift to national-oriented parties by taking a tougher stance on migration issues. Meanwhile, Kostis Hatzidakis, incumbent Finance Minister, will become Mitsotakis’ chief of staff, responsible for coordinating government policies.
With elections not due until 2027, the Prime Minister must navigate a deeply polarised political landscape while addressing public anger over the train crash and other issues.

A message to people outside Greece
After the events of February 28th 2025
I have been seeing some of the foreign media coverage on the protests in Greece and I have been noticing the use of some words that tend to make a negative impact: "chaos", "Greece braces for", "violent protests", "youth throws rocks at police"?!?!?!?!?!?!, reuters giving a livefeed showing only some violent episodes etc
Please, consider this. Some of the foreign media might be fed directly by the Greek government. Some foreign media might even be fed by their OWN governments, not wanting to spread the message of what power the people have when they become one in their demands for justice and transparency.
Remember, this was a GOOD day in Greece. A GOOD day. A day Greece WANTED and needed, not a day Greece was "bracing for". Yes, there were some violent episodes but paled in front of the scale of the peaceful protest for a change and a better future, let alone that these episodes are suspected to have been questionably provoked (as in, a sabotage). Do we know where it will get us from here? No. Anything is possible. But remember when you come across coverage about Greece, February 28th 2025 was a good day in Greece.
Take that from, like, the most peaceful, conflict-avoidant Greek out there. Good day.

Let’s not forget that critical audio files that were supposed to be exposed at the court were all saved in a single CD-ROM without any backups and then the CD-ROM was “accidentally” broken with a stapler, essentially destroying all that evidence.
A CD-ROM and a stapler, in 2024…. Even a black comedy about political corruption could not have come up with this….
This past Sunday hundreds of thousands of people gathered in protests all throughout Greece and several cities in Europe, numbers of protestors the Greek political scene had not seen in ages, people finally waking up from their apathy and asking for political transparency and responsibility.
In a parallel universe, Serbians were also protesting against their government for similar reasons these days. The difference is that the Serbian government quit. But our politicians do not have a single drop of decency and morality.

The Tempi Train Tragedy and the Ongoing Cover-Up
"I have no oxygen."

On February 28, 2023, Greece experienced the tragic train accident in Tempi, which left 57 dead and dozens injured, causing deep sorrow and outrage in Greek society. Two trains—one passenger train carrying citizens and one freight train carrying goods—ended up traveling on the same railway track in opposite directions. After the violent collision, a massive explosion followed, raising numerous questions. Immediately after the accident, hasty actions were observed that altered the crime scene. Specifically, excavation and backfilling of the collision site were carried out before all necessary evidence had been collected.
According to experts, these actions significantly hindered the judicial investigation in uncovering the truth. In a country that lacks funds for photocopy paper in schools and where it takes years to fix a pothole in a road, on the night of the accident, 700,000 euros were found and orders were given for the immediate planning and execution of the site’s cleanup and backfilling.
The very next morning, the entire political leadership of Greece, accompanied by the President of the Republic, rushed to the accident site. Suspicion arose from the Prime Minister's statement just a few hours after the tragedy, attributing the accident to "human error." The victims' families have spoken about the presence of flammable materials on the freight train, which caused the deadly explosion. These materials were not listed in the official cargo records of the train.
Three weeks after the incident, the Prime Minister dismissed the allegations as "conspiracy theories," insisting that the explosion was caused by the train's brake oil. Key witnesses to the incident were killed in car accidents just days after the crash. Additionally, video footage of the freight train's loading process mysteriously disappeared, with no logical explanation provided. From the very first day, audio recordings of conversations between stationmasters were made public; however, it was later revealed that they had been edited, with the apparent goal of misleading public opinion and reinforcing the narrative that human error was the primary cause of the collision. Subsequent revelations have brought to light strong indications of attempts to cover up the real causes of the explosion, those truly responsible for the tragedy, and the deep-rooted corruption within Greece.
A recent report by an expert that surfaced in the media suggests that the explosion was caused by the presence of flammable substances, excluding brake oil as the cause, since it would not have been capable of producing such a massive blast. The explosion is believed to have been triggered by chemical fuel adulterants. Recorded emergency calls made by victims to 112—activated by the automatic collision mechanism—reveal that survivors of the crash were crying out that they could not breathe. The recorded distress calls confirm the presence of oxygen depletion due to the fire. The victims survived the collision but were burned alive.
According to the victims' families, political mechanisms are deliberately delaying legal proceedings, keeping case files buried in bureaucratic drawers and obstructing their fight for justice. As if all this were not enough, the son of the prosecutor handling the Tempi case has been missing for three weeks. Recent reports suggest that the prosecutor has stepped down from the case. Public outrage continues to grow, fueled by the widespread belief that a deliberate cover-up is taking place.
The families of the victims, railway workers, and society at large demand transparency. The victims' families, through their association, are calling for an independent judicial process in Greece. Today, across Greece, without political banners or affiliations, people are gathering under one slogan—the last words of those who burned alive:
"I have no oxygen."

Violent protests erupt in Athens on second anniversary of devastating train crash
Tens of thousands of people took to the streets across Greece on Friday, marking the second anniversary of the Tempe train crash, The Week reported (Updated on 3 March at 11:30 a.m.)
The protests, which turned violent in central Athens, underscored widespread public anger over systemic failures and the government’s perceived inaction in addressing the causes of the tragedy.
In Athens, protesters clashed with riot police near Syntagma Square, hurling Molotov cocktails and smashing paving stones, while police responded with tear gas and stun grenades. Paramedics were seen carrying at least one injured protester away from the scene.
The crash on February 28, 2023, killed 57 people, including 11 railway employees, and left dozens injured. It exposed severe deficiencies in Greece’s transportation infrastructure and sparked demands for accountability. While rail officials had been charged, critics argued that politicians and higher authorities escaped responsibility.
The protests were part of a mass mobilisation led by the victims’ families and supported by labour unions, including the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE). Yannis Panagopoulos, president of GSEE, called for the full truth to be revealed.
The full truth must come to light, and those responsible, no matter how high their position, must be held accountable.
A general strike disrupted flights, rail services, ferries, and public transportation across the country. Many private businesses and public services closed, with storefronts displaying messages of solidarity for the victims’ families.
Demonstrations were held in over 300 cities and towns in Greece and abroad, with tens of thousands gathering in front of the Greek Parliament in Athens.
Political fallout
The protests have created a politically precarious moment for Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ conservative government. While his party maintains a strong lead in the polls, public dissatisfaction over the Tempe disaster has boosted support for anti-establishment parties. Opposition leaders are considering a censure motion against the government.
Mitsotakis acknowledged the public’s grief and demand for truth, pledging to continue efforts to improve rail safety.
Every Greek participates in this mourning, united under the common demand for truth.
A long-awaited investigative report released on Thursday blamed human error, outdated infrastructure, and systemic failures for the crash. The collision occurred on a single rail route between Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, highlighting the country’s reliance on an aging and underfunded railway system.
The aftermath of the crash was marked by chaos, with survivors describing tumbling carriages, fires, and shattered windows. The recovery and identification of victims were gruesome, as many bodies were severely burned or dismembered. Funerals were held across the country, with many broadcast live, turning private grief into a shared national experience.

one could learn Greek just to read this newspaper cover and it wouldn’t be a waste
so if you didn’t know, last week rishi sunak was due to meet the greek prime minister to discuss — amongst other things — the parthenon sculptures that we've been hoarding in the british museum for a couple of centuries. rishi cancelled last minute for no good reason and one greek newspaper came up with a great response:

South Greek islanders are having one hell of a night… literally

The worst is that the biggest quakes that occurred recently had a focal depth of only 2 - 3 km (if these speculations are accurate) which is crazy and makes me wonder whether those scientists who say the magma is rising are right (most scientists say the phenomenon is tectonic and not volcanic).
I hope everyone is and stays safe but I kinda can’t go to sleep when I see this shit

Dc x Dp Prompt #6
“I’m a twin”, Damian said one night. He could feel the narrowed eyes of his family drilling holes on his back in disbelief. Not that he could blame them. Damian had never so much as implied being raised with a companion, much less a sibling.
“I had a brother”. Damian paused to recollect himself. He had not said his brother’s name out loud in over 8 years.
“His name was… Danyal”. Damian hated the way his voice wavered, but he could not help it. Danyal was everything to him, his other half. Their heart beat as one and when one heart stopped beating, the other one died with it. At least until his family put his heart on metaphorical life support without ever realizing.
“Where is he now?” His father asked, voice filled with knowing grief and a hint of betrayal. It had in fact been 6 years since Damian first showed up on his doorstep.
“Up there”. All eyes shifted towards the specific star he was pointing to. “Right before he died, he promised me he’d guide me from the stars. Unfortunately, the stars are not visible in Gotham, so my brother is unable to be of much help unless I leave the city.”
“Your brother is Polaris, the North Star?” Tim questioned warily, most likely in attempts to not offend him. Damian was aware of how stupid it sounded, but Danyal had promised, and his brother never broke his promises.
“Yes. Danyal is with the stars now, just as he always wanted”

Au. Before the Trojan war when Ares and Ody are asked to try to get along.
(Ares and Ody are sitting awkwardly across from each other.)
Ody: So, Athena asked us to try finding what we have in common.
Ares: We both want this to end. Done. (Stands up)
Ody: Yeah, but I don't think that's what she meant....uh, I love Penelope and you love Aphrodite.
Ares: That's true. (Sits back down) Aphrodite's amazing.
Ody (with a goofy grin): Penelope just has the brightest laugh.
Ares (head in hand): Aphrodite's so smart and pretty.
(Hours later, they're kicking their feet in the air while on their stomachs)
Ody (gleefully): And then this one time, Penelope made this little snort sound!
Ares (gasping): You're kidding! Aphrodite does that too! It's adorable!
Ody: I know right!
(Penelope and Aphrodite are about to enter the room. Athena stops them.)
Athena: Don't do in there. You'll be a distraction.
Penelope (confused): There's so much giggling in that room. We wanted to see what was going on.
Athena:...bonding.
Aphrodite: Between who?
Athena (directing them both away from the room): You wouldn't believe me if I told you.
