I don't love keeping track of the box office like I used to years ago, but it can still be fun at times seeing a movie that you expected to be relatively big just knock out even high expectations. Sometimes it's fun to see even blockbusters chase history.
For example...
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6614ece5ada6ebc9fdc2f061fafb6ba6/ef84a0c416a09dbb-26/s540x810/40d69fed968a8481ed3de52f046e49b821a08e56.jpg)
#box office#box office memes#animation box office#i know neither of those are the highest-grossing animated film ever (with or without that lion king remake monstrosity)...#but the biggest animated film of last year and pixar's biggest cashcow are both big benchmarks that i totally see getting broken#i know inside out made over $850m#(impressive for both a movie that competed with minions and an original in an era already harsh to original animated films pixar or not)#but i didn't see a hit this big coming#i hear it's really really good and i'm hoping to see it soon#funny enough since i was a kid in the '10s i've seen every non-cars pixar sequel (no lightbeer doesn't count) in theaters but no originals#i mean i did see luca and turning red within weeks of release on disney+ but does that really count?#i probably should give those 2010s pixar sequels a rewatch as i'm already starting to see them weirdly in hindsight#heck ever since a pixar marathon that died at ts3 in 2021 the only pixar movies i've seen are turning red (release) and inside out 1#the last decade and a half of pixar is such a strange beast that it intrigues me even despite the quality dip#(i mean hopefully ts4 is still at least somewhere near as great to me as it was in '19)#my tv's broken atm though and i've got writing to finish so maybe not for now#what was i posting about? oh right the 2020s box office is wild!

I hope you don't mind a complete stranger jumping on to something this personal?
From what I see, you can form your opinion just fine. Maybe you have difficulties sticking with it, but you definitely seem to know that you aren't interested in this show, that you wouldn't enjoy it, and why.
What helps me personally a lot in these situations is the idea that "good" and "bad" media don't just exist on one axis, but on two. One goes from "technically good" to "technically bad", which is the objective things (acting, animation, storytelling, costume, music, etc), the other from "I like it" to "I don't like it", and that second one is completely subjective. Hazbin Hotel genuinely does some things right: It is an adult animation coming from the West, a rarity in itsef, has amazing character designs and a great use of animation as an artform, is a musical and unafraid to be loud and over the top. Even the swearing and sex jokes feel fresh, because these things are so often completely censured elsewhere. ....and all of this doesn't matter if for whatever reason this isn't the right story for you at the moment.
I've had this with shows, too. Everyone loves Heartstopper to bits, but I know it is just not for me, because I can't stand to watch realistic stories about teenagers in school for personal reasons. Worse was Good Omens season 2. I loved season 1 to bits, always will, but there was an ever so slight narrative shift between it and season 2, and important things went missing. I understand that everyone else loved it, but... To me, it was a great disappointment.
These things happen. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for not liking the exact same things as the mainstream does.
Also, some of the jokes really are dumb. I genuinely suspect that many people just feel good to see characters in a show swear and be very open about sex. If you are not in that headspace because of whatever reason, then it definitely is a bit too much.
hazbin hotel is so weird to me.
When I was an edgy, newly queer teenager and the pilot came out, it was literally fucking everything to me. I rewatched it on a near daily basis. I thought every joke landed, that the animation was amazing, and I had a weird sense of pride that a YouTuber could produce something as amazing as a 30 minute, high quality animation.
Then a few years passed as I watched Helluva Boss excitedly every time it came out. I thought it was great, for a while. Then over time, I was semi-conscious of a decline in quality, that finally set in around when season 2 came out. I stopped watching at that point because I was so bored of it, I missed what it could've been, what it used to be.
At that point, I started seeing more information about the actual Hazbin Hotel show coming soon. On it's own it would have been strange, the lack of excitement about what was my entire personality at one point. Then I started seeing how a lot of accounts on here who I respect and look up to talk about the show.
The true scope of the issues with the show really set in at that point. How unoriginal and childish the jokes were. How their was barely an audience anywhere for it because it didn't know what it was trying to be. It was clear to me that something I once idolized is a wreck.
Then, one of my closest friends with media opinions I heavily respect starts watching the show and talking about how great it is. It's hard to describe the level of whiplash I felt. It felt like I was missing something, y'know? Like there was an inside joke I didn't understand, how could anyone like the bad show. It's bad.
I... still haven't watched the show. I don't have means to watch it except pirating and I genuinely don't feel like putting in the effort to pirate it. Honestly, the greater point of this post is just like - how bad I am at forming my own opinions, because I feel a constant need to be with the crowd.
I know that's a problem. It shouldn't matter how people I respect feel about the show, because if I enjoy it and it's not genuinely problematic, then there's nothing wrong with that. So maybe I would like the show. Maybe I'm in the small audience which I've repeatedly seen referred to as dumb, overly edgy, etc. And maybe I don't want to admit that because I'm hoping I'm not in the minority.
Anyway, that's the end of this long post. Have a nice day.
#we've all been there#there are Marvel movies I rewatched multiple times because everyone said that they were so great and I was trying to see it#...I didn't. I still won't. I'll just stick with those I did like#it's a learning curve#I think watching old things helped me A LOT#doesn't matter how big a classic a show is if it's from the 50s you WILL be a minority liking it#but you also have an excuse because it's a classic#not everything is for everyone and not at all times#queer fans in particular should stop pretending that everything is for everyone just because it's queer#maybe you'll enjoy the show in five years#maybe you won't#literally doesn't matter#it's the 2020s we have enough shows to chose from#even queer ones#media analysis

A review for Sonic Movie 3. Anyone who hasn't watched it yet, please do, I highly recommend it. The following text will contain some spoilers. For the record, I have been a Sonic fan since I was 10, so to me these movie series are a great deal.
I played Sonic Adventure not so long time ago, around 2020, unfortunately I just didn't have a console. So the feelings I had after the walkthrough were fresh (just as recent MGS3 walkthrough). So, this is my personal view on the movie adaptation.
Character design—As many fans have mentioned since the first movie, the redesign of the characters was a great move. They all look organic in a realistic environment. The quills and fur feel soft, and the details of the models are great.
Jim Carry did a great job portraying Robotnik. All of his scenes and his performance as Gerald are perfect, funny and close to the canonic Eggman. He had fun with this role for sure :3 Look at them go!
Agent Stone x Robotnik ship is now canon (Robotnik literally said, 'I love you' to him in his last moments), and I couldn't stop saying 'aaaaw' about their scenes.
OMG they even added CHAO
Maria's sequence is cute and fulfilling, she needed it. In games, she barely has screen time, so it is a big plus.
Also, the Ark was moved to Earth, Gerald is alive, and this plot line was different in Sonic Adventure, too, but I think it still makes sense. I like how the screenwriters made the plot fit the realistic setting and also filled the plot holes that were in the game.
No Biolizard boss fight :(
'I found you faker' scene reimagined was a chef's kiss
Shadow didn't say 'Chaos control' or 'I am the Ultimate Life Form' and that's alright.
No Black Doom, but the 'Black Arms' meteorite that arrived on Earth gives us the needed lore about Shadow's origin.
The final battle scene, the conversation between Sonic and Shadow on the moon, was fantastic. I almost got a tear. It's beautiful, they finally settle things between each other. Sonic just couldn't kill him; he is just not the type of character. The scrip writers dove deep into the lore and adapted it brilliantly.
Sonadow now feels more canon than ever. My inner shipper screams, "I must draw something with them." I also love the parallels of the moon scene. Of course, I also instantly thought of the Cyberpunk 2077 moon scene.
Tails and Knuckles were cute, and the group hug in the end was just aaaaw. Sonic Team & Knuckles made me chuckle 😄
I would like to rewatch it in English dub, obviously for Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves.
When 'Live and Learn' started playing I had goosebumps, and almost jumped out of my sit
Metal Sonic's and Amy's appearance was peak after the credits, holy shit
In conclusion, Sonic 3 is one of the greatest game adaptions I have seen so far. Every detail and every action scene doesn't feel overwhelming, I actually don't mind the plot's slight alteration from the canon. I enjoyed it a lot and I had lots of fun!

Saturday Morning Vid Recs - Women!
Back in January I told @poetikat that I wanted to share just a fraction of vids I’ve seen since I started vidding in 2007 that I love. Taken me forever to format the links into a post to share. I have several more posts half-finished and may show up on your dashboard in following weeks or months.
I'm reccing vids that are at least 1 year old, but most of these vids are 4 and 8 and 12 years old and sometimes older. These vids feature a variety of sources, characters, genres of music, genres of shows. Each of these vidders have their own style and the way they approach a song or a source. I love these vids, they're fun to watch, they're hot, mesmerizing, engaging, thoughtful, full of love and horniness and BAMFs and joy and struggle. I love. I love.
I give to you 23 vids for this weekend's theme:
Women!!
Learning to Fly by rhoboat. Beautiful Boxer (2004). A movie vid based on trans Thai boxer Nong Toom’s life. This song is so good showing her journey to learning to find herself and fly! Ako Te Reo by bironic. Rūrangi (2020). Ana learning Te Reo Māori. This vid is so wonderful! It's never too late to learn. Come on Feet by JinkyO. Pumzi (2009). The song choice and pacing is incredible for this Kenyan sci-fi film. Something has to keep us moving forward. Black Nails by fightingarrival. A League of their Own (2022). A Max vid that is a great look at her journey on the show. This vid makes me want to rewatch all her scenes all over again. Here, take this L. Damned if She Do by chaila. Borgen. This source is the Danish political drama Borgen. Birgette is so kick-ass and this song is perfect for her. She come alive when she dying. "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." Strict Machine by such_heights. Doctor Who. River Song. I’m in love with River Song so of course I have to rec this. I get high on a buzz then a rush when I'm plugged in you. Counting Stars by beccatoria. DC Animated Wonder Woman. Beccatoria has always done such a great job of vidding animated source and WOMEN!!!! Superstar by @heresluck. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A Faith vid. This (one of many) epic Faith vids to come out of vidding fandom over the years. This vid lives rent free in my head. But I would pay this vid to live in my head because I love it so much. Never gonna be the same again.
Down & Dirty by @sweeter-than. Killjoys. A Dutch fanvid! A++ song choice for a character study showing her relationship with the Jacobi brothers and her general awesomeness. Make way. Cut Like a Buffalo by kiki_miserychic. Empire. Cookie Lyon fanvid! Cookie has all the skin in the game and she is so good at music, but damn there’s so much bullshit she has to deal with along the way. Yeah, you know I look like a woman but I / Cut like a buffalo / Stand up like a tower, tall / Then I fall just like a domino. Control: A Monstress Fanvid by garrideb. Based on the comic Monstress. You know this Halsey song + any woman who has been Going Through It is going to be a fucking ride. Great editing, amazing art. Fortunate One by @moocowmoocow The Expanse. CAMINA!!! DRUMMER!!!! A Sleater-Kinney cover of Fortunate Son is 10 million kinds of brilliance here for Camina and this source. I ain't no fortunate one. Celebrity Skin by @some-stars. Black Sails. This is an Eleanor and Max character vid. I repeat: Elenor and Max vid to Courtney Love’s music. Heed the warnings. This vid is so goddamn good. It better be worth it. Double Woman by starlady. Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame. So much awesomeness packed into this vid. Through the camera lens re-editing history gives imagination to the people. Wu Zetian and Shangguang Jing'er are awesome. Hooray for awesome ladies of the Tang Dynasty! Titanium by giandujakiss. Wonder Woman (the original tv show). She is titanium! Suffering Sappho.
Mirrors by @kuwdora. Snow White and the Huntsman. Queen/Snow. Lots of fantasy imagery and bdsm like themes since the Queen wants to suck the youth from Snow. Sex. Love. Control. Vanity. Lightning Field by bradcpu, a Legend of the Seeker fanvid of Cara/Kahlan. The imagery in this vid is outstanding, the tone the atmosphere. I have rewatched this more times than I can count. Strike me down, Give it everything you've got. Hands Away by chaila and beccatoria. Sarah Connor Chronicles/Fringe. Sarah/Olivia constructed reality fanvid that is constructed really really fucking well that you might forget that these are two different shows. I can't reach you. (Or, two messiahs walk into an alternate reality) Hurricane by @laurashapiro. Farscape and Battlestar Galactica, Starbuck/Aeryn.This vid is so epic and hot and incredible...Hot and sexy and can’t take your eyes off them. Two pilots walk into a bar. I Wanna Go by millylicious, a multi-source action vid Angelia Jolie tribute. This is fun and delightful. Space Girl by charmax. Multi-source space women and girls! My momma told me I should never watch Sci-fi but I did, I did, I did. Celebration by sweetestrain. Pop divas. Madonna, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, etc. Another one of my favorites of favorites. The connected imagery between all of these music videos still blows my mind, but goes to show you how pop music continues to build and evolve from each other. Plus sexy dancing. If it makes you feel good. Your Song by anoel. Multi-fandom. One of the most epic sapphic/wlw vids out there. I don’t wanna hear sad songs anymore, I only wanna hear love songs.
Hope you like these recs! Follow the tags to keep up #saturday morning vid recs and/or #kuwdora recs

something about me is i got into sonic in 2020 because my BJF (best job friend) at the time wanted to go see the first movie together. we did, and then we saw it three more times in theaters (before they all shut down because of the pandemic). it was this whole thing, we brought our other friends along for the rewatches and always had a lot of fun.
now, in 2023, i surround myself with people who unironically love it.
i know my experience isn't universal, but overall i've had a very positive experience with sonic. and whenever i see stuff that implies sonic as an interest is "cringe" or whatever, i'm always like "huh?" cuz it's so divorced from the reality i live in.
it makes me sad to think that some people feel ashamed about liking sonic. like, what's there to feel bad about? it's a fun series with tons and tons of content, and i think it's great that it can bring people of all ages together. there's a little something for everyone, even if you don't like EVERYTHING about it.
games, comics, music, books, movies and tv shows, coloring pages and sticker sheets... not to mention all the stuff you can make for yourself, since sonic is a very big open world full of endless possibilities irt fanart and fanfic.
idk what this post is about really. i just think it's pretty cool that when i was at the store earlier today, a kid saw my sonic socks and smiled real wide. cuz that's what sonic is to me. something to share and smile about

My 2024 Anime Watchlist
Anime (and related media) I watched last year
Sailor Moon Cosmos (2023)
After 10 years Crystal finally comes to an end! The 2-part movie is cool, it gives us an epic streak of final battles in the second part, things feel very grand and it brings emotion. The ending is oh so lovely. Also I was happy to see some things animated for the first time! That said…Most of it goes by too fast, specially in the first movie. Too many beloved characters have limited screentime, which really brings the arc down. I know these are problems from the manga too, but damn…This solidified to me that in the manga/crystal version of events, Dream Arc is more enjoyable. That’s not the case in the 90s anime, which butchered a good chunk of the Dream Arc but has the characters around much longer in Stars (yes I know screentime in a movie is obviously shorter, but still). I think in the end the musicals brings us a good balance of Stars. If only they had included the Sailor Quartet in those myus, they would feel complete. But anyway… this was it. Could Crystal have been better? Yes. Should it have been longer? Yep. But overall? I really enjoyed the whole thing through and I’m happy it was made! Just really wish the last two arcs were seasons instead of movies, but oh well...What a decade!
I watched subbed and dubbed. Brazilian dubs are usually great but a couple choices sadly kinda killed this one, just like in Eternal (somehow I thought this time it was worse but I think it's just that in Eternal I was happy to see it dubbed, since Crystal wasn't). Unless they redub it, I'll stick to the subs.

Kaleido Star (2003-04)
Sora is a Japanese girls who finally gets to live her dream of working as a trapeze artist on Kaleido Stage, a famous american circus. Every spectacle means new challenges and lots of hard work. But some people want to see her (and even the whole circus) failing...
I used to watch this as a kid! Finally sat down to watch the whole thing, and it’s a great show. It has cool characters and it’s very entertaining to see them training and performing new shows at the circus. True, season 2 has some annoying characters, so season 1 is better...Except for the final arc, cause personally I found the end of season 2 much stronger than season 1 - it was a great way to end the show (I could see people prefering the s1 ending, it just didn't hit me as hard). There are also a couple of OVAs that take place after the ending. The first one is so-so, but the second is pretty cool and it works nice as a second ending/epilogue.
Watched it dubbed (except for the 2nd OVA since there is no dub)
Yu Yu Hakusho Stage Plays (2019, 2020)
Picking up from last year's Yu Yu maraton, I've watched the stage plays! First one is really just the beginning: Yusuke dies, comes back as a spiritual detective, and we get the Three Youkai mini arc. We also see Kurama and Hiei's first meeting, like in Two Shots. The second play covers both the 4 Beasts castle and Yukina's rescue (they basically skip the training). Since Kurama and Hiei are not much in the second half, their actors get to play a side character each.
Sadly I don’t think these were very good. Sure, visuals are cool, the characters are well done, and they have their moments, but overall these plays were not it, imo. The bit where they play the opening song with a fighting montage is great though, very entertaining.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9def83d9d2af9d530b11640110b7478c/64983e78b13e72a2-10/s540x810/61199e9a5713fe40e1e1987fedcec0685cefa907.jpg)
Rurouni Kenshin (1996-98)
Another from my childhood I hadn't seen in full! First two arcs are good, specially the second one (plus you can notice there’s some filler in the first, but it’s ok). Third part diverges from the manga and is mostly anime original stuff - and noticeably much weaker. If I ever rewatch it I'll stick to the first 2.
Watched it dubbed.
The Apothecary Diaries (2023-)
I had been hearing about it and decided to catch up in January. What a Good series! I was impressed. Maomao is a great character, the court intrigue is a thrill and I’m looking forward for a better understanding between her and Jinshi, and yes, rooting for actual romance. The series got drama, mystery and comedy, it’s great. Happy for the upcoming second season!
Subs cause the dub only came later.
7th Time Loop Season 1 (2024)
Rishe is stuck in a 5 year time loop that starts at the annulment of her engagement with the prince. No matter what profession and life she lives, it always ends during a war. 5 years into her 6th life she swordfights Emperor Arnold, from the neighbouring country, who is responsible for the war - and is killed by him. In her 7th loop, she soon meets Prince Arnold (not yet emperor) and he unexpectedely is smitten with her and proposes. After working hard in her previous lives, she is determined to finally relax and hopefully find out more about how the war starts, so she accepts. As his fiancée she soon notices Arnold is not completly cold as she expected, wondering what makes him go down that path.
I believe I saw some posts here and then I saw a clip of Rishe dealing with poison and so I decided to watch. I loved it! It was not quite what I was expecting, but rather better. Rishe is a delight and the whole mystery surrounding Arnold’s past and future, which lead them to the war seen in the previous loops, is very intriguing. I’m also captured by Rishe’s past jobs (merchant, harbalist, knight, etc), they’ve made her very resourceful. I really like the court day to day stuff and the drama, and the way she navigates all that. The dynamic of her knowing certain people from past loops but them not knowing her is always intriguing – and we get to know a little more about her this way too. And of course, I love her growing romance with Arnold!
I watched a bunch of dubbed episodes but then I caught up and the subs come faster, so.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bade5faf49bde223233139b5f01cd7de/64983e78b13e72a2-a7/s540x810/7b0da9c5cc9efb105b0d29641e9310bfb492e24a.jpg)
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (2023-)
This one seemed to be a fan favorite of the season and well, I can see why…While 7TL and tAD are more my vibe, I can’t overlook Frieren. The way it presents grief, time, connection, and the mortality of people through the eyes of this seemly apathic elf is very touching. It made me cry a few times! It also has cool action. And of course, I can’t resist a good medieval fantasy setting. I’m not versed in rpg but even I can recognize some basic elements, it’s pretty cool.
Watched it dubbed!
From Studio Ghibli
Only Yesterday (1991) - This one is pretty slow, contemplative. It’s also a little boring imo... I can see its value, but it’s not really for me. Subs cause there is no dub.
The Cat Returns (2002) - I didn’t intend to watch this one but changed my mind at some point. It’s pretty fun! Not sure what I expected but it wasn’t this haha I quite liked it!! Subs cause there is no dub.
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (2013) - This is a pretty long one, and the different artstyle threw me off at first, I thought I might not like it... I finally got to watch it though, and not only it is not boring, but it is visually very pretty. It could have ranked high but I didn’t vibe with the ending, so. I could see it being other people’s favorite though. Watched it dubbed.
Earwig and the Witch (2020) - This one’s got a bad reputation but I thought it was fine. Like sure, this 3D animation did not capture that Ghibli charm, but the character design does seem on point and I thought it had an interesting setting. Overall I liked it, even though the ending is rather anticlimactic. Things shift abruptly and are over soon after, leaving some stuff unresolved too (I imagine there would be a sequel). It was still entertaining though. Watched it dubbed.
The Boy and the Heron (2023)
I think this was the first time I watched a Ghibli movie in cinemas! It’s a good film. Not among my Ghibli favorites, but it would rank in the upper half. I'm sure it's other people’s favorite. I think the relationship with the stepmom could have been better developed, but it's still cool. The crazy, whimsical world kinda reminded me of Spirited Away at times. It's got that Miyazaki balance of weird and wonder, with a rather unique mythology and intriguing characters.
I wanted to watch it dub but there were limited screenings and the day I went had only subs.
Buddy Daddies (2023)
A duo of assassins with very different backgrounds and personalities are sent to kill a criminal. The mission is accomplished, they just didn't expect him to have a little daughter. Now they have to figure out how to take care of a child.
I heard good things about this one - and I loved it! I wish it had been longer, I believe it could easily fill 20 something episodes, but oh well… The trio is very endearing, their dynamics are great.
Subs cause no dub.
Yona of the Dawn Season 1 (2014-15)
Princess Yona has to flee her castle with her chidlhood friend/bodyguard Hak after her beloved cousin, Soo-Won murders her father, the king. While searching for the four legendary dragon warriors to help them reclaim the kingdom, Yona finds out her people have been suffering for years, and feels it is her duty to help them.
I was honestly surprised to see this series is already TEN years old. I remember people talking about it but I didn't remember it had been this long? Maybe I heard of it afterwards? Maybe not…Anyway. This series is great. I didn’t expect it to be so good. It’s an epic (east asian) medieval fantasy! It’s got drama, adventure, action, and I’m looking forward to the romantic plot development with Hak. It’s cool to see Yona growing from sheltered princess to a warrior. I’m honestly shocked they never made a second season, like, wtf. Fortunately they’ve started selling the manga in here, and I’ve been following it! Good stuff. I wish I could watch the plays, but specially the musical. Oh, I'm saving the OVAs for when I reach the respective manga chapters.
Subs cause no dub

Snow White with the Red Hair Seasons 1-2 (2015-16)
This one is also medieval fantasy, has plenty of drama, and while it does have action and adventure, it’s not so much in the epic side - it’s more…mundane? I mean sure, it’s got court intrigues, swordfights, and there’s a kidnapping at one point and whatnot… But the vibes are more on the quieter, lovelier side? I mean, there isn't an epic quest. But it’s cool to see Shirayuki’s journey in becoming a great herbalist while Zen trains in his princely duties and how they both fight to be together despite the obstacle of their different status (something which worries Zen's older brother and other influential people). Their friends also form a cool cast. Wish there were more seasons, but the ones we got are good. I’m not even mad at the misleading title cause the only reason I remembered its existence and watched it was because years ago I saw there was a Snow White anime. Alas, this has basically nothing to do with Snow White, but it’s so good I don’t even care.
Subs cause no dub
Spy x Family - Code: White (2023)
Yes it’s filler but it’s fun! Plus it's not like Spy x Family plot moves fast anyway... So here we got a little winter family trip in search of a recipe (for the Mission!!!) turned into a crazy kidnapping and rescue as Loid and Yor separately go after Anya…it’s action-packed, whacky and fun! It’s Spy x Family!!! There are also a couple of cute Twiyor/family moments, which I love, of course. It’s a good pastime. Bring me season 3!
Watched it dubbed at the cinema!
A Sign of Affection Season 1 (2024)
A lovely show! It’s about the daily life of a deaf college-age girl, and her new romance with a guy who loves to travel, and how her world expands when meeting him and other people in college. I think most school settings stories I see are in high school or middle school so this is a nice change.
Watched it dubbed
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (2022-23)
People talked so much about this one I had to give it a go. The only Gundam series I had contact with before was Gundam Wing (watched some assorted episodes as a kid), so I thought that would be the first one I watched in full, but I still haven't done it, oops. And now I’ve seen Gundam Witch! Intriguing developments and characters! Deals with some serious issues, which apparently is an usual Gundam thing. It has some cool dynamics and the queer romance is cute, it has a good arc. The show is not quite my jam, so not a favorite, but it’s a good show, felt solid.

My Happy Marriage (2023-)
Miyo lives in a Cinderella situation until she is engaged to Kyoka, a rich guy with a bad reputation… In a society where powerful families have superpowers, she’s got none, so her family wants to get rid of her…The poor thing lives with no affection and the guy is desensitized to previous fiancées chasing his status, but then he sees that’s not the case and is decided to treat her well AND to stand up to her family. Oh, and it’s got an historical setting. Also Kyoka is part of the special forces which fight evil spirits or something. He controls elements. I gotta say I was not expecting that kind of action in a Cinderella-esque story, ha! It was a good addition.
It's kinda tough to see Miyo so meek, but it's key to see she is not magically cured after the engagement, she still struggles from the abuse of her family, but with help, little by little she gains more confidence, which is lovely to see. She also finds her own way of helping Kyoka herself, the end of the season really makes it stronger. I don't think it's gonna be a favorite of mine, but it IS good. Season 2 incoming!

My Happy Marriage Movie aka As Long as We Both Shall Live (2023)
The movie is basically a compressed version of what we see in season 1. As such, it is definitely inferior to the animated version, but it’s okay... Like, it has its moments but overall it really doesn't hit the same, specially the ending. I would say it has all the important bits of the first half of the season, but a lot of the second half is lost (Hazuki, you were missed, girl!).
Shaman King: Flowers Season 1 (2024)
I was entertained, I wanted to see more of the kids and their dynamics (and more of their parents), and I wish they would continue it…But I don't know, it's got some odd choices. Granted, it's a short season, if it had been longer it might have been more charming/intriguing. For example, Ren's son is the last to join so we don't see a lot of him, which is a shame. I also thought it was going to be a complete story but turns out the Flowers manga was continued in Super Star, and the season we got was really just Flowers…Also I still think it would have been a better investment to use the money to improve on the Shaman King remake, but anyway. I wonder if they will ever continue it.

Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac Season 3 (2024)
This was about the same level as season 2 I guess. Though back then they let the fights begin in one episode and end on the next, while here they kinda kept it in the same episode, which made them feel shorter :/ Like, it was cool but still not even close to the original series. It has its moments, but parts of it are too quick, there’s a lack of stronger soundtracks to enhance the scenes, etc. The original content was interesting enough, but we had so little time it would have been better to use it on canon events... or at least parts of it.
I would watch more if they made it but it seems they’re going to stop this version in this arc – and I get it, like I said, its really not as good as it should/could be. I’m glad they finished it though, it would have been a bummer to see the arc only halfway done. I hope we don’t have to wait too many years until a new saint seiya anime…also I wonder what it will be.

Delicious in Dungeon (2024-)
Everybody couldn’t shut up about it so I had to watch it XD yes, yes, it’s good! Well made rpg-esque medieval fantasy setting. It’s got plenty of comedy, and the story is pretty different from the usual stuff… It wasn’t until things started to get serious that it really got me though, like halfway through the season. From what I’ve heard, it should be done by season 2. I'll be there to watch it!

Sailor Moon: Musical Festival Chronicle (2022)
Finally could watch this one, yay!!! Story-wise it's not really impressive, but then again this one is more of a celebration of myu history than anything else. Cool to see the old numbers back, lovely to see Satomi’s guest appearance and, of course, the BANDAI MYU team, hooray!!!! Oh and we could see more of Riona’s Mamoru too! Since The Super Live full recording was never released, we don’t have much of that, so this is nice.
I honestly thought this would be the end of the myu/moon renaissance, but after the announcement of the long run of the new Super Live in London, I'm not so sure! But alright, let's not get ahead of ourselves...

Ranma ½ (2024-)
Ranma’s return!!!! Its been rather fun to follow Ranma and Akane’s shenanigans again. I’m glad I watched the full og anime a few years ago!!! I hope they get to adapt the manga until the end this time (I’ve never read it myself). Waiting for season 2!!!

why do cute talented but not too famous actors always act in mediocre boring or even obnoxious films 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 i can't do this anymore
i watched "antebellum" (2020) bc of rob aramayo. his part was good but the movie in general doesn't make any sense and it's also a torture to watch, it's made very badly
gimme "lilies not for me" and "i swear" already I BEG OF YOU I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE
and i still haven't seen "nocturnal animals" ffs. heaven help me
why can't every actor just be like andrew garfield fr. the man started off strong from the very beginning of his carreer and every of his project is interesting. some of them are disturbing as well but still interesting. geez. yikes.
anyway i hope "harley and the davidsons" will be good. i'm saving it till the very last. i also need to rewatch "galveston" coz i saw it a few years ago and don't remember rob there at all. but i DO remember the film and the reason i'm hesitating to rewatch it. oh lord please let us see s3 of "the rings of power" as soon as possible
back in 2022 i had a hyperfixation party called "watch andrew garfield's every project" and i'm doing the same with rob coz the whole andrew's filmography is cool (i still haven't seen a couple of things tho), so it was very naive of me to think that i might have get another good filmography of my new favourite actor again. unfortunately things don't work that way every time. and rob is still a good actor, his characters are different and interesting, but the films are not that great.
besides "the rings of power", my fave projects with him so far are "behind her eyes" and "the standoff at sparrow-creek", i love his characters in both of them, and also both of them have cool plot twists

i love your taste in movies, do you have any recommendations for scary movies that are on streaming right now? i just moved and i'm planning to get a library card this weekend but until then i need something to tide me over :)
oh thank you!!! yes! this is just from taking a look around at some of the horror streaming guides i’ve seen online so hopefully these are accurate to which service they’re said to be on!
on netflix:
•train to busan (2016) is an all timer for me that i really think is just a masterpiece. even if you’re a little burned out on zombie media, i still say give train to busan a chance because it does zombies in a way that felt really refreshing and different. the characters in this movie are so well done and it makes me genuinely emotional every time i watch <3
•as above, so below (2014) is such a fun movie like omg….i simply was having the time of my life watching it. really leans into as many scares as it can possibly think of, doesn’t take itself or its subject matter too seriously, genuinely gives me sweaty palms sometimes with the claustrophobia of the paris catacombs. also has the rlly cute guy from cloverfield/super store who i have a big crush on
•some honorable mentions: zombieland (2009) is forever a comfort movie for me, scary stories to tell in the dark (2019) did a genuinely great job imo of adapting the book series, and pearl (2022) is just a great time
on HBO max:
•poltergeist (1982) is an underrated fav of mine <3 weirdly i think of it as like a family friendly horror movie? like i think you could sit down kids in front of poltergeist and they’d generally be okay, which i love and find so compelling in movies that genuinely are scary but also kinda work with younger viewers. feat. the iconic zelda rubinstein
•trick r treat (2007): THEEE halloween movie. its literally a movie ABOUT halloween and about the love of the holiday and the season. genuinely makes me feel so emotional about halloween and the beautiful lovely meaningful holiday it is for so many of us. just a fun campy time, everything ties together in such a clever way, and sam is a little baby. what more could you want?
•honorable mentions: of course the scream franchise (1-4) are classics and so worthy of rewatching, and i’ll recommend open water (2003) because to me it is absolutely terrifying and i find myself thinking about it very often
on hulu:
•the omen (1976) always hits for me. i love this movie and find it so effective in its horror. i LOVE a creepy kid. a bit of the omen trivia: in the final shot, damien wasn’t originally intended to be smiling. he was supposed to look dead ahead at the camera. but the actor was told to be serious and look stern, which made him giggle, so the smile at the end is genuine in that he was trying to suppress a laugh. they kept it because it came across so sinister and tonally perfect in the context of the movie :)
•sea fever (2020) listen no one EVER talks about this movie but i was blown away by it. ocean horror is one of my moms fav subgenres so if we can find a horror movie about the ocean you better believe we will be watching. i thought the concept of this movie and its monster (? if you can call it that) were so fresh and original. compared to its predecessors like leviathan or deep star six, i honestly think sea fever is more effective in its scares
•honorable mentions: hulu has so many good choices! alien (1979) and the fly (1986) are obviously beloved classics for a reason. also if you’re looking for a series, castle rock is near and dear to my heart and is very well done
on prime:
•hell house llc (2015) is another one of those classic Halloween movies to me like it truly is a love letter to the holiday…mwah. found footage is my fav subgenre and this movie does it very well. it has one of the most effective scares that truly took my breath away upon first watch and stuck with me ever since
•10 cloverfield lane (2016): ohhh the cloververse my beloved….i often speak highly of cloverfield (2008) because it’s one of my absolute favorite movies of all time, but i don’t as often talk about 10 cloverfield. not sure why tbh because i love it as well! holy FUCK john goodman is scary in this. it truly sets up a horrifying situation, does so much with a small limited environment, and again john goodman has me shakin in my boots. you don’t have to have seen cloverfield to watch this one! you can watch em out of order no problem
•honorable mentions: of course the thing (1982) is immaculate and gets me every single time. just getting reports right now that lisa frankenstein (2024) is already on prime, HIGHLY recommend, wish i could go back in time to the day i watched this in theaters alone in a new windbreaker i had just thrifted and felt so at peace
honorable streaming service mention: shudder is worth a subscription if you’re wanting to go all in on horror this halloween season. it’s got such a fun eclectic collection and amazing movies like late night with the devil (2024) and series like history of horror
#tried to do a little mix of the more classic recommendations with some that may not come up as often!#out of everything on this list i would honestly highlight sea fever and hell house llc if you’re wanting to branch out#i think watching these smaller and lower budget films is really what partaking in the genre is all about#watching how well people can scare you when you’re least expecting it!#answered#anon

Recently rewatched Emma 2020, and
1. Box Hill scene, gotta applaud Miranda Hart for playing Miss Bates being obnoxious about Jane Fairfax then singlehandedly delivering how wrenched she was by what Emma said. She just nailed it. She thinks the world of Emma. She played well into the obnoxiousness of Miss Bates but then she made me feel so terrible for her after what Emma said.
There are just things you don't say even if everyone's thinking it.
Emma crying when she realized how terrible she'd been, and later delivering the pie (i think it's pie??) as an olive branch to Miss Bates
Made me tear up sm. It's a lesson for Emma and hurting someone who can never actually bring any sort of real consequences to her,0l of lower station, someone who is also a lot older than her who thinks highly of her, being Miss Bates just hits me
Mr. Knightley was so displeased about it. It's just an overall sad situation for Miss Bates and later I wanted to hug Emma as well, she's still young, thinking she knows everything.
2. Emma and Jane
are the A+ students whom their teachers think will be great friends solely because they're both A+ students, situation
The competitiveness and their incompatibility just made it into a forced awkward friendship 😂
They're also the friends in a group friends that are merely acquainted because they're friends with people in the group, if they're left in a room together they won't have much to say to each other lol, in fact Emma will despise the situation
Emma being an extroverted genius
Jane being the introverted genius
They wouldn't have much to do with each other except maybe their circle of friends
It's very uncomfortable 😂
I really agree with you about Emma and Jane, the movie played up their rivalry in a way that the book doesn't, but everyone does just expect them to be friends and they do not gel. It's not Emma's fault, she does try, but Jane doesn't respond at all. There is nothing that can be done to make them friends and it's so uncomfortable.

my rating of the current list of callum turner projects I've seen is
GLUE. I love u so much murder horsegirl show I literally love u so dearly. will be doing a rewatch soon and if in the near future they for some reason decide to find and delete all archives of this show and then edit the show and release it w another actor's face superimposed on callum's body well. i would still watch it. highly recommend.
emma 2020 <33333 just an absolute favie of mine I saw this around the time it came out and I was not turnerpilled at all I had no idea he was in but . I think he does frank churchill very well despite like having 3 lines for some reason . my kind of terrible little pookie bear. darling adaption of one of my favie jane austens. not bc it is also my namesake.
masters of the air. I think we all by now know where I stand w this fucking show. jesus christ. jesus fucking christ truly. have issues w the writing decisions definitely and the script sometimes sucks but JOHN BUCKY EGAAAAANNNNNNNN u will always be famous to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I LOOOVEEEE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
mobile homes 😘. kind of a sad ass movie it made my heart hurt badly ill be real. thought it was quite good tho and I liked how deranged callum was in it . he was very silly at times and it seemed like he had a lot of fun . abusive little freak demon of a man tho that he played . :[
the last letter from your lover. sweet and kind of darling movie but ultimately it was just ok and I think the writing and cinematography was not great. he was very charming in it tho would 100% also cheat on my wretched husband w him and have a sad and upsetting decades long affair w him.
victor frankenstein. frankly an embarrassing movie. truly. like he had 3 lines total in it and was a COOOOP. AUGH. not even james mcavoy could save this movie from being bad tho abt halfway thru he was the only reason I was still watching. just goofily bad in a way that is neither fun nor entertaining.
The Only Living Boy In New York. all I can say abt this movie is it truly was one of the worst movies ive ever fucking seen. he kind of ganseyed it up a bit w the living in a shitty flat while rich and wearing glasses all the time. only way in which he ganseyed tho there is nothing else comparable. sorry

Going through my letterboxd movies 2024 and seeing if there is a pattern here
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e38f2078a9834d4c5ebc0d8c23dc68d1/b945119278273368-31/s540x810/fd8b0c16264c54ed3e1ecd2eacd88b2b24590321.jpg)
I watched the Mean Girls musical movie and then went home and watched Bottoms the same day. It was really fun day.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7b3f5a6ae41ff42c9c1756c55069d4c6/b945119278273368-28/s540x810/7e079b31f9f5ad47ba5f486dd466449154c90b98.jpg)
I SWEAR I did watch movies in february and march too - I think this list only includes the ones I wrote reviews for, because there was a movie I know I watched that didn’t show up here. This same thing applies to the other months where it appears that there is nothing.
April: Ronja was airing on tv so I watched it. Just like when I was a kid I found myself thinking it was quite long and I lost focus at times. Great music tho!
May: I remember my specific review was ”wow I have watched like 4 sapphic films about two best friends being chaotic and either one of them is a lesbian or both of them are” (the other I can recount rn being Booksmart and Bottoms, ik I’ve also seen another one). I like this trend in the 2020s to do movies with that plot it’s hilarious. This one was a little more meh though
June: I rewatched Terkel in Trouble out of boredom and it was just as hilarious as always. It’s peak late millenial/early gen z humor
Oh and Inside Out 2 came out!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a47c08ac7914ece24606a78d8a0bde63/b945119278273368-92/s540x810/361f4fa72068254ddda2c34211bc0bb9ac162df3.jpg)
August: I had a watched the Revolutionary girl Utena movie and then discovered they also had THE SHOW on letterboxd so I decided to review both lmao
October: Laughing at the contrast here. I rewatched It chapter 2 after not having watched it for years and it was funnier than I remember.
Pippi on the run was airing on TV and I was like ”oh fuck yeah I love this movie”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/981fc5e809f79446c2eb6646508a5ba5/b945119278273368-f6/s540x810/75a0c173cc403e2082aca97acbc33338abc4f97c.jpg)
November: I was on an Astrid Lindgren movies rewatch spree! Decided to rewatch a lot from my childhood. Lots of them held up. With the Pippi movie I more appreciate the runaway movie, I never liked the pirates movie as much. But it was fun rewatching it nonetheless as I hadn’t seen it since I was like 7.
Oh, and then I watched Wicked! So it’s a super fun contrast 😅
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/988fc3ec476dd27807e7176558be03ce/b945119278273368-62/s540x810/bafb77a69a0618cba968fb52cdab3c45a7204aba.jpg)
December: Every Christmas they air a short cartoon about a boy who takes christmas gifts from the rich and gives to poor. It is a super fun special, and then they made a feature film about it some years ago. It was also fun, although I think I preffered the short.
Then I rewatched another Astrid Lindgren movie, one of my ULTIMATE FAVES <3 I also DID watch another Emil film but it didn’t show up because I just rated it, didn’t write a review
Baccano! is in January but I really watched it december 31st. My friend really wanted to show it to us, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it! I have never been too much into immortality plots, but this show did it really well!
In 2025 I hope to watch more movies and also review them, even if it’s a rewatch of something I might have seen before

Ok now I need to know, what are your favorite straight rom-coms. I'm always looking for more things for my neverending watchlist
hehe 😌 thanks for asking!
i'm gonna be using the term romcom loosely, but (in no particular order):
love & basketball (such a sweet little friends to lovers)
always be my maybe (i feel like this one isn't very well-known, but i adore it! it's about childhood friends who had crushes on each other meeting up years later as adults after losing contact. and the soundtrack is absolutely fire, including the songs by the fictional band 'hello peril')
clueless (literally my beloved! and it's a modern day adaptation of emma by jane austen, executed flawlessly btw)
10 things i hate about you (yet another flawless modern day adaption of a classic, this time shakespeare - everyone must certainly watch it in preparation for the heart killers)
kuch kuch hota hai (really stretching the definition of romcom here, cause i sobbed 2/3 of that movie when i first watched it, but i love it so much, so i must mention it)
legally blonde (this one isn't particularly focused on romance, but the whole plot is just iconic, and - for what it's worth - the love interest is absolutely lovely)
to all the boys i've loved before (i only really liked the first one, but that first one was a really great fake dating situation)
the princess bride (it is such an endearing classic, i adore it)
set it up (one of the best newer romcoms out there for sure)
the proposal (this one is a classic and for a good reason)
when harry met sally (ultimate friends to lovers, what can ya do)
flipped (a cute little story about kids falling in love)
love, rosie (once again, not really a comedy, but such a juicy plot)
the wedding singer (this one is very 90s but also 90s adam sandler is kinda hot?)
the duff (this one is kind of a guilty pleasure but idk, i enjoy rewatching it every once in a while regardless)
also, again, not romcoms, but when we speak of straight romance i cannot neglect to mention jane austen my beloved! in this case, the adaptations of her books. specifically, emma. (2020), pride & prejudice (both 1995 and 2005), northanger abbey (2007), and - with a slightly heavier heart, as it is my favourite novel and i am not entirely pleased with either of the adaptations, but they are still quite good - persuasion (both 1995 and 2007).
i have seen all of these at least five times throughout my life jfkdjfkdjkd so definitely recommend 🫡

When and how did you discover DMC? And what makes you love the franchise?
Ohh, great question anon! Personally I was always kinda peripherally aware of DMC as a franchise - when I was early in middle school (around 10/11) I started really getting into anime and manga, and that was before I really spoke fluent english that much, so I was primarily looking for stuff that was either dubbed or subtitled in my native language - there was one TV channel that broadcasted dubbed anime, and it was really not that many back in the day... but somehow, the dmc TV anime was one of those! I really loved it, and I must've rewatched it a billion times - it was one of the late night programs so I remember sneaking out past my bedtime to plug my headphones into the TV and watch it, haha. But still, I didn't own any game consoles, and I didn't know how to use the internet too well yet, so all I could do was think "oh, dmc sounds so cool, sure wish I could actually play the games and get more context some time.", and it kinda stayed that way for the rest of my life! In 2019, even though it was completely out of my immediate sphere, I heard word of dmc5 out on the internet, and though I'd forgotten most of what I'd gathered back in middle school with the anime, I did remember it being something I'd been peripherally interested in for a long time, and then - I admit it, I was startstruck by how hot the main 3 characters looked on the cover art, LMAO. I still couldn't play most games (all I had was the aforementioned nds, a wii u, and and older mac laptop), BUT exactly for that reason I'd learned to just watch playthroughs of the games I was interested in - and i was immediately interested in dmc5, like I said at a glance just bc every character was very attractive to me, but you know how it is, my dick has lead me to places I wouldn't even go with a gun, etc etc. I just had this almost fugue state moment of reading everything I could on the wiki about the plot, the lore and the characters, saving a cutscene movie video of the game to watch later, and being SO into how pretty much every ship would be incestuous and very drawn to what that would entail for the characters, going on a fic reading binge..... and then literally forgetting ALL about it within the week. Like, literally, if you'd asked me if any of that had happened before I actually properly got into dmc, I'm not sure I would've been able to remember that happening at all. AND THEN, finally, this backstory comes to a head in december 2020/january 2021 - that was the year where I got my first job, (i know, what a year to do that, LMAO. it was a waiter job too) so for the first time in my life I had a little bit of extra money to spend, and so I decided to get myself a ps4 as a christmas gift so I could finally catch up with all the franchises I'd been wanting so bad to get into but had missed out on, or those I'd had to get into via watching someone else play, and could finally experience firsthand. DMC5 was one of the very first games I got myself - and I still have texts with my best friend from that time to remind me exactly when the very first time I booted the game was (january 15th, 2021). I'd like to say it was love at first sight, but it actually... kinda wasn't. I had forgotten most of my past interest, and at the time, I just kinda experienced it as a game that was really fun, really cool, and kinda put to the back of my mind (though I will say - my immediate reaction WAS that I'd genuinely, honestly never had that much fun playing a game before. Like - maybe it's because I hadn't really played any console game up to that point, but... video games had always been something that, while i was really interested in, I just kinda suffered through to experience a story, or something I powered through because I wanted to see it through to the end, actively enjoying the process on the way there was rare, for me - and dmc was genuinely just fun. Even without the plot to drive it forwards, I liked playing it just to play it, and that was like an INSANE concept to me back then lol).
(I'll have to continue this in a RB bc it turned out I have way too much to say and going way over the character limit WHOOPS stay tuned lol)
