2. the doorframe to the kitchen desperately needs to be replaced, but it never will be, because there’s a makeshift height chart on there with little markings for every member of the family that date back to when their dad was a kid, because it’s the house he grew up in and grandma curtis made sure to keep track at least once every year, and darrel kept up the tradition after his parents died. darrel 6/7/30—3 y/o—shoes on. darry jr. 4/17/58—11 y/o—shoes on. sodapop 8th birthday—no shoes. ponyboy 11/14/53—4 mos.—sock feet. mama curtis has an entry from after she and darrel sr. got married. the gang all get initiated into the family via being measured on the doorframe. soda has never been measured in shoes because he refuses to wear them. nowhere was an actual measurement in inches or centimeters ever used. just a line and a silly little note. so many people are included over the years that it’s unreadable and the gang’s kids will have to start a new list on the other side of the doorframe

Did u grow up poor or rich? How do u think that affects how u see money today

Poor, we got almost all our food from the church at many different points (for a hot minute they even payed our rent so we could get out of the house my Dad had keys to), and at many points my mom worked multiple jobs to keep the family afloat.

It's definitely made it so I have spent money on things that I don't need but I wanted so badly as a kid (a Kit Kitredge American girl doll probably tops the list). I'm also more likely to be willing to spend money to do something fun, like go to a concert. But, I think it also made me paranoid about saving. I used to overhear my mom and stepdad talk about money, and I started having panic attacks over the bills when I was 10 or 11 (and then got banned from being anywhere near the discussions because "you are a kid this is not your problem") so I have like this deep seated fear of us needing money to keep the electricity from being turned off again that I started saving my own just-in-case money.

do you think that the guerra household has money now? i dont mean like rich kind of money but enough to be comfortable? to own beachfront property, right off the shore of a popular tourist town (and probably vacation destination) is expensive, even if her grandfather owned it and its been passed down. would the rewritten narrative be that fransisco and his wife decided to splurge on a plot of land on the beach or perhaphs an old lighthouse and he built the house himself? do they have people make offers on the house to the tune of millions that they keep turning down?
