Grayclaw is a silver tabby tom with spiral patterned stripes, long fur, sharp claws, broad shoulders, and ears that begin to curl inward at the tips by ASC Book 4. His eyes are ice-blue.

Poor Graypaw. He takes each loss he feels so deeply to heart. He was inconsolable when his Papa was gone, as he and Jayclaw had an incredibly close bond despite how young Graykit was.

When Curlfeather passed, Graypaw took it even more terribly. He was very nearly in denial, trying to hold himself together to be the "rock" for his sisters. He did not do it well.

Splashtail sunk his claws into him. Promised him security in return for support. He was Curlfeather's apprentice, he knew she would want him to watch over her kits. She was such a good, loving mother, wasn't she? Such a shame she's gone, she would have made a perfect leader, good thing she shared all her ideas with me to make me a perfect new candidate. Ah, rest, sweet Curlstar, I shall take care of your children for you...

Graypaw buys it. He supports Splashtail, his new best friend. When Splashtail claims his leadership, Graypaw vouches for him. His mother trusted him, he must clearly be worthy.

Then Frostpaw is "killed". She runs away from the Clans into a strange place with a small party of other cats, Sunbeam, Nightheart, Whistlepaw, and Shadowsight. No one knows this, of course. She is assumed to have died as well. Graypaw snaps. He cannot take another loss, and hangs on to every word Splashtail says. Splashtail is young and born from tumultuous times himself. Starclan has lead them astray in his eyes, and his mentality stems from a long cycle of violence that is as inevitable as an egg spoiling in summer heat. Graypaw swears he will do anything to keep Riverclan safe, and follow Splashstar's every order.

In return, Graypaw is immediately given his warrior name, Grayclaw. In honour of his beloved father, who would be so proud to see him. Splashstar tells Riverclan to yowl loud enough that Jayclaw will hear his name being honored. Funny that he left out any mention of 'Curlstar'.

Grayclaw becomes one of Splashstar's enforcers, quickly climbing the ranks. Grayclaw, Duskfur, Shinetoe, Brackenpelt, Foxnose, Shadenose, Wavesplash, Spikeleaf, and Mallownose all support him. While Mallownose is made deputy, Splashstar creates a second position. Head Enforcer.

Grayclaw is placed in that decorated position. He is in charge of enforcing Splashstar's rules, and making sure cats are compliant with them. He buries his head in the sand when it comes to complaints. The only one he'll listen to is his sister. Mistpaw, denied a warrior name for not singing Splashstar's praises, doesn't complain, but... She does make suggestions. She saw a lot of salmon in the stream, maybe they could do more hunting patrols today rather than making everyone go over battle moves for the 5th time in a row?

Grayclaw grieves his missing sister, presumed dead, he cannot stop thinking about how much of a failure he must be, that the only hope he has left is to keep Mistpaw safe... If she keeps looking upset, Splashstar will get angry...

He forces Mistpaw to bow to Splashstar, calling him Riverclan's true leader, and that the only reason she'd held off was due to her own grief for her mother. Of course Splashstar understands, he's so generous, so wise.

He gives her the name Mistwillow instantly, a beautiful name, and seems to settle down. Grayclaw sees this as having been the correct thing to do. It kept his sister safe and in line, and Splashstar approved.

Then, when the dust seemingly settled during a horrible battle with Windclan, Frostpaw appeared in the moonlight, silver fur shining and curled ears framing the crescent moon. She had a small group with her that was growing quickly, leading a rebellion against Splashstar and his enforcers. Grayclaw at first was enraged, he had mourned her so badly, fought so hard for the peace he had built for Mistwillow and himself, and now she came in trying to tear it all down. He fought like hell at first, going after the River Rebels and doing his best to destroy them.

And then he grew desperate. He begged Frostpaw to join them. They'd be a happy family again. They wouldn't have to be alone anymore. They could just go back to the way things used to be. She just had to give all of this up...

Frostfeather refuses, and The River Rebels make another push back into their home.

Grayclaw can't take it. He can't handle his sister abandoning him again. He needs to be better, to keep what he has left together as it slips through his claws like feathers in a hurricane. He resolves himself of one thing...

He'll always have his sister's memory.

Grayclaw catches his sister, crashing into her after a long chase up onto the highest cliff of Sun-Drown Place, the two rolling over each other, almost off the edge of the cliff.

As thunder cracks deafeningly above them and lightning shines in Frostfeather's star-filled eyes, Grayclaw pins her against soaking wet rock, sharpened claws raised high, dripping from the torrential rain around them... He knows if Frostfeather perishes, the rebellion will too. Splashstar needs him to do this.

He has to do this.

meet Ambrosia Bella Brown ~

Ambrosia, born into a wealthy and ancient vampire family in the secluded town of Forgotten Hollow, enjoyed a life of luxury for 23 years. Despite the comfort, her family's age-old feud with the Grayclaw werewolf clan cast a shadow over her existence, a feud so old that its origins were lost in history. Based off of the excerpt, I have a few predictions!

→ Frostpaw’s presence in ShadowClan gives us the ShadowClan POV we’ve been missing since Sunbeam arrived in ThunderClan, though deprives us of a RiverClan POV. I wonder how that will be handled. Will we receive a fourth POV like we did in Night Whispers for Flametail? We’ll definitely catch a glimpse of how life in ShadowClan has been between Sunbeam’s departure and this Gathering. Perhaps Sunbeam and Frostpaw may forge an unlikely alliance to heal Berryheart?

→ Speaking of unlikely alliances, we could also see this kind of alliance between Sunbeam and Breezepelt to help Berryheart. However, I’m not willing to bet that Breezepelt would risk being discovered by his Clanmates aiding a ThunderClan warrior in helping her ShadowClan family. Breezepelt’s little nudge may be all the help he can give her.

→ Wasp and Waffle contrast each other. Wasp is put off by Clan life upon watching Frostpaw’s exile from RiverClan, and finds it difficult to understand deeply-rooted Clan traditions, specifically those exclusive to ThunderClan. However, Waffle still has hope for what Clan life can be like and is eager to learn whatever he can. I believe Wasp may end up leaving ThunderClan. Unlike Waffle, he doesn’t have a confirmed apprentice name, hinting that within the next moon, he’ll decide to search for greener pastures.

→ There may likely be some sort of movement formed against Splashtail. Frostpaw has already put it into Duskfur’s head that Splashtail killed Curlfeather, and Splashtail’s attempt to cover his own tail confirms for her that he isn’t as truthful of a cat as he may seem. Since a large part of RiverClan seems to have accepted his authority, whether out of true agreement or fear (Mistpaw & Graypaw), this may not happen until Splashtail does something that irreversibly damages his credibility within RiverClan.

→ Splashtail said that he won’t receive his nine lives, but I wonder if this is something he’ll stick to. I can definitely see him pulling a Nightpelt, naming himself Splashstar and lying about receiving his nine lives when in reality, he just has the one. What if Splashtail gets wounded in battle before RiverClan has returned itself to its former glory? Will he, if ever, understand the importance of a leader having nine lives?

→ I can see Mistpaw and Graypaw’s lives being in danger now that Frostpaw has so openly spoken out against Splashtail. As of right now, Curlfeather is the only cat we know for a fact conspired with Splashtail, and in turn, he killed her. Splashtail has proven himself to be a cold and calculating warrior who’ll go to any means as long as the ends justify them. He’d absolutely kill Mistpaw and/or Graypaw, or threaten them, to keep Frostpaw quiet about the truth.

→ Adding on to my previous point, Whistlepaw is the only cat outside of RiverClan who has reason to believe the allegations against Splashtail. She helped Frostpaw fake her death and remained silent about what truly happened. I can definitely see Splashtail either launching an attack on WindClan and having Whistlepaw killed in the process, or using Podlight to either kill her or find some way to discredit her. Discrediting her will be easy, especially now that she’s damaged Harestar and Kestrelflight’s trust in her.

→ It’s about time for Mistpaw and Graypaw to become warriors, so I’m thinking their names will be either of the following:

Mistpaw → Mistfeather, Mistheart, Mistflower, Mistpool, or Mistlight.

Graypaw → Grayfeather, Graypelt, Graystone, Grayfrost, Grayclaw, or Graystream.

I think all of these are extremely likely but I feel Whistlepaw will survive this book given that she gives the Ivypool SE prophecy, unless of course she does that with her dying breath in this book which is entirely possible.

A Sunbeam and Frostpaw team up would be such a good way to finally have these girls communicate. Maybe Nightheart will request Frostpaw’s help on Sunbeam’s behalf at first before Sun and Frost then get to know each other?

I think it would be really really funny if Splashtail named Mistpaw and Graypaw after himself - Misttail and Graysplash lol, but for more serious names I do love your suggestions, particularly Graystream and Mistlight.

Probably the last time I'll ever re-draw my OG girl swanfur :') I made her for ye olde warrior cats rp groups on deviantart back in 2015! Met a lot of friends through her, even if she herself was never much of a character,,, she'll always hold a special place in my heart.

According to the bare-bones (and typo-filled) ref-sheet I made for her, she was a member of Rainclan, had four kits (Otterkit,Petal kit, Rainkit and Cherrykit) and smelled like 'fresh rain and rose pedals" Apparently she also had a brother (Grayclaw) who I literally cannot remember ever referencing again.

APPEARANCE (FC is Janel Parrish)

Raen stands at 5'4.5" (1.64 m). She has a toned frame that is somewhat lithe for her height, and light skin that tends to tan rather than burn in the sun. Her facial features come from her mother, with the exception of her eye color (black sclera with red irises), which comes from her father. She has dark, wavy, chin-length hair, and both her ears (which are pointed) have been pierced multiple times. When she isn't shapeshifting to hide them, her fey'ri/demonic traits are her fangs/sharp canines, her equally sharp (and very durable) black nails/claws, and 4" (10 cm) four black convex horns, the last of which rest atop her head like pillars supporting a roof. Raen wears light armor in the form of a close-fitting top with bracers and hidden padding, relaxed black pants, and dusky leather boots. The fabrics are all in various shades of grey, and they're wrapped in several belts; these are used to distract others from the secret pockets lining her clothes. PERSONALITY

Raen has always been an adventurous, excitable, and passionate person. In a way, she takes after both of her biological parents. Most people tend to say she reminds them of her dad, Remy, because of her eyes, smirk, natural charm, confidence, and tendency to flirt (for fun or for manipulation). Others say she reminds them of her mother, Haelwyn, because of her face and mannerisms. Some even say she gets her spunk and defensiveness from her other mom, Arenna. Regardless, Raen is her own person. She’s a hedonist who secretly cares a lot about doing the right thing (even if she breaks some rules along the way).

BACKGROUND

Chaotic Neutral; Sorcerer/Rogue (similar to the Arcane Trickster): Raen was born to the Fey'ri Rogue Remy Freevale and the Half-Drow Li Haelwyn. She was raised by both of them, as well as their Dhampir wife Arenna Darkhelm, all of whom had experience as adventurers. The trio had healthy relationships with each other, their child, and their friends in Xavier's Guild--not to mention a lot of money--so Raen grew up fairly happy. She always looked up to her parents, so she put lots of effort into learning to read, write, fight, play cards, and master the spells of her chosen domains. Still, the world is cruel. Raen disliked having to hide her demonic physical characteristics when she went out. On top of that, she saw the wealth gap for what it was. Thievery became an outlet for her anger and a way to get cute clothes. She rarely got caught, as her father, who used to be part of the Grayclaws thieves' guild in Tantras, taught her everything he knew. When she was old enough to make her own way, Raen politely told her parents that she wanted to use her inheritance for adventuring (and managing her own band of thieves) rather than studying at a university. They weren't enthusiastic, but they did accept her choice. She still writes to them...when she has time.

Li is her biological mother's last name. Freevale is her father's last name, which was given to him by the man in the Grayclaws who adopted him.

Do you have any plans or arcs with frostpaw, mistpaw, graypaw about their bonds as kits before their relationship goes sour?

They are seen a bit during TBC as little babies! They're still in bumper-car kitten stage when first seen. Despite the unhappy spring and unrest in Riverclan, they're happy. That's their first real appearance (I don't count them being announced at Gathering)

But they're incredibly close by the time of ASC. To the point that they show each other things their mentors taught them, and go on fun little adventures before things get bad. Also, while they're orphans, Graypaw puts himself in charge of grabbing food for Mist and Frost, and still tries to go on those fun trips. Mistpaw helps Frostpaw and they all try to make sure the other isn't alone.

Also during their Pre-Orphan era, Mistpaw and Graypaw, being the siblings with longer legs, race down the length of the river, Frostpaw acting as their finish line under Curlfeather's watchful eye. Curlfeather would often have them practice things such as Glyphs or survival skills like starting small fires and cooking.

They also have 'vists' with family members and spend days with them. (All clans have different den dynamics, Riverclan has tons of small dens)

They have a family unit and we do see them during a low tension dinner. Duskfur, Curlfeather, Graypaw Mistpaw and Frostpaw, all having some good fishy stew together.

As for when they're kittens, that is seen during the Missing Moons story for Curl. The last chapters are during her time as a new mother with Jayclaw, and when the kits are nearing apprenticeship. She wants them to stay close, and you can see the push there. She needs her kits to lean on each other and on her, both of out fear and grief, AND her manipulation regarding her plans to rule Riverclan.

It's initially Silverkit/Silverpaw, and when he's taken in by Needlefang it's changed to Graypaw. He becomes Grayclaw, but after meeting Goldenheart again and leaving the clans to learn what he wants to do with his life, he changes his name to Silverclaw.
