Virtual Character Tourney - Results!

It's been a wild journey, but we finally have the long awaited results for the Virtual Character Tourney! Behold!

The winner is Hatsune Miku!

In second place, we have Hera from Wolf 359! I cannot emphasize how close it was between them consistently. There was a stretch of time where Hera was only behind Miku by 4 votes! Regardless of the outcome, I have to commend Hera's fanbase! I hadn't heard of Wolf 359 before this, so I definitely need to check it out!

In third place, we have Dr. Coomer from Half Life VR But the AI is Self-Aware! Given the recent announcement of a sequel, can't say I'm too surprised! He was consistently a strong presence in the polls with plenty of nominations, so I can't say I'm too surprised that he did so w-Hello Gordon!

Cryptid Academia is an aesthetic based off of Dark Academia and Cryptidcore. It was inspired by the aesthetic of cryptozoologists and journalists in the 1960s. 

Cryptidcore is an aesthetic traditionally associated with Cryptozology, or the study of creatures from urban legends and folklore, and the romanticization of the adventure and mystery surrounding conspiracy theories, ghost-hunting, cryptid-hunting, and the supernatural. Most fans of the aesthetic are a part of, or want to be a part of, a community that gets to solve something beyond themselves with their friends and witness something strange and fantastical. Alternatively, some people interested in the aesthetic empathize or even want to be a cryptid themselves. Many parts of Cryptidcore have been inspired from media associated with cryptids and conspiracies, such as Gravity Falls, Twin Peaks, Welcome to Night Vale, Sightings, Unsolved Mysteries, and The X-Files. Cryptidcore enthusiasts are often fans of these fictional works, and a love for cryptids and mysteries often comes from the love for the original works. The visual aspects of Cryptidcore originate largely from the places these cryptids are allegedly located in (mostly the forests and deserts of the United States), as well as the kitschy tourist trap culture capitalizing on the people who have a fascination with these cryptids. Cryptidcore is also generally vintage, and takes visual inspiration, especially in regard to fashion, from the 1970s - 90s. A copy of an alleged emergency medical report, filed by one Dr. Malcom Harrow to the Marin County Health Department, dated two days prior to the Vanishing.

Revealed to the public during the WikiLeaks fiasco of 2008, it is believed this report was filed following an outbreak of an as-of-yet unidentified contagion that spread through the town in the days and weeks leading up to the events of October 21st.

While the contents of the report remain unverified, its existence has become a "smoking gun" for conspiracy theorists who have consistently alleged that the disappearance of the townsfolk was supernatural in origin.
