Located on Farmington Road and Grand River, this building was built in 1876 and served as both the town hall of what was then Farmington Township and Farmington Masonic Lodge #151 F. & A.M. Lodge #151 was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Michigan in January 1865. In 1963, the Township government relocated to a newer facility. The Masonic Lodge has remained since the structure opened more than 140 years ago. #MetroDetroit #FarmingtonMI #OaklandCounty #SecondEmpire #FrenchRenaissanceRevival #VictorianArchitecture #FarmingtonRoad #GrandRiverAvenue #GrandRiverAve #archi_ologie #MasonicLodge #MansardMonday #BrickStory #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #ThisPlaceMatters #MichiganPlacesMatter (at Farmington Masonic Lodge) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKdEvsTji-J/?igshid=1361rf3n3t0bk

The building at 10920 Grand River was built in 1938 as one of the city's beloved Cunningham Drug Stores. It was designed by the great Charles N. Agree in a Streamline Moderne style. The green enameled steel facade was a hallmark of sorts for the chain. The intersection of Grand River and Oakman was once a bustling shopping district, one of several along Grand River, in fact. The building still operates as a pharmacy, albeit with considerably less fanfare these days. #Detroit #Westside #NorthwestDetroit #ArtDeco #ArtModerne #StreamlineModerne #Modernism #CharlesNAgree #GrandRiverAvenue #GrandRiverAve #OakmanBoulevard #archi_ologie #ModMondayz #thedecodarling #RawDetroit #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #MotorCityShooters #PureDetroit313 #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #ThisPlaceMatters #ThisPlaceMattersDetroit #MichiganPlacesMatter (at Grand Value Pharmacy) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2eZpfbF0t-/?igshid=7dk17u3prbdg

This ain't the antebellum South, y'all - it's downtown Farmington. Located on busy Grand River Avenue, this stately Italianate home was built in 1867 by P. D. Warner and sits on approximately 3 acres. It would serve as the official residence of Mr. Warner's foster son, Fred (1865 - 1923), who would go on to serve as Michigan's only three-term governor (1905 - 1911). Governor Warner (Republican) was a supporter of many Progressive Era policies, most notably women's suffrage. Since 1982, the Warner home has served as a museum. The grounds are available for weddings and other events. #MetroDetroit #FarmingtonMI #OaklandCounty #Italianate #VictorianArchitecture #GrandRiverAvenue #GrandRiverAve #archi_ologie #oldhouselove #casasecasarios #houses_ofthe_world #beautifulhouseoldandnew #TheAmericanHome #houseportrait #BrickStory #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #ThisPlaceMatters #MichiganPlacesMatter (at Governor Warner Mansion) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtXBxJkghz9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ocda9gc03h7u

Grand Army of the Republic Building Address: 1942 W. Grand River Built: 1900 Architect: Julius Hess The Grand Army of the Republic was formed in Decatur, Illinois in 1866 by Benjamin F. Stephenson as a way for veterans of the American Civil War to stay connected with each other. It was founded on the principles of “Fraternity, Charity & Loyalty”. In Detroit, it was decided that an appropriate space for veterans to meet was needed. Julius Hess, a well-known local architect, was selected to design the new building. However, when Hess died during construction his former partner, Richard E. Raseman, oversaw the structure’s completion. The building’s odd shape is a result of being situated on a triangular lot that was once owned by Lewis Cass and was donated to the city as part of his will. The will required that a marketplace always be present. Therefore, the first floor was rented out to merchants. The G. A. R. Building was given a 30-year, rent free lease by the city. The building was a place for vets to play games, tell stories, and reminisce about battles fought. As time went on, the building eventually fell into the city’s control. When the Department of Recreation took over operations from the Department of Welfare in the 1940s, the building was used as a recreation center for decades and acted as a gathering spot for various groups & organizations. In 1982, as a cost-cutting move, Mayor Coleman A. Young closed the building. In 2007, the structure was sold to Ilitch Holdings, but that purchase was later rescinded. In 2011, Mindfield, a Detroit-based media firm, purchased the Grand Army of the Republic Building, with plans to renovate it as its headquarters as well as space for a Civil War memorial and restaurants/retail. Renovations were completed in 2015. 🇺🇸 #Detroit #Downtown #Romanesque #RichardsonianRomanesque #VictorianArchitecture #JuliusHess #GrandRiverAvenue #CassAvenue #archi_ologie #RawDetroit #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #MotorCityShooters #PureDetroit #PureDetroit313 #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #TheMidwestival #Michiganders #IGersDetroit #IGersMidwest #detroit_igers #ThisPlaceMatters #ThisPlaceMattersDetroit #MichiganPlacesMatter (at Grand Army of the Republic Building)
