Encantober 2023 Day 10: Help
Luisa was considered to be one of the most helpful people in the Encanto. Whenever someone needed help in the village, Luisa was there to help them with whatever was needed. While she was considered a hero in the village, Luisa always had trouble asking for help whenever it was needed, because she was scared it would make her look weak. Ever since she first got her gift, Alma pushed the idea into her head that if she asked for help with anything, she was automatically weak.
It was not until one day when she was doing chores around the village when she realized how much asking for help would be a strength rather than a weakness. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon in the Encanto, and Luisa had just finished lunch and was going into town to do some afternoon chores. She was asked to bring the donkeys back in the shed after they escaped, as always, and now it was time for her to relocate the local church again.
Once she got to the church, she lifted the building with ease and was on her way to relocate it. But once she almost got to the spot she needed to relocate the church to, she dropped it. She lifted the church building once more successfully, and walked over to relocate it, but dropped it before she could again.
Gabriela, Luisa’s best friend since first grade, noticed her struggling and walked over to see what was the matter. She saw her sitting by the church with her head buried in her knees, and her arms wrapped around them. Gabriela ran by Luisa and sat next to her, tapping her on her shoulder.
“Hola, Luisa; I couldn’t help but notice that you were upset. Is there anything that’s bothering you?” Gabriela asked as she put her hand on Luisa’s shoulder.
Luisa hesitated before she could respond. “Si; I’ve been trying to relocate the church, and while I have relocated it several times before, now, I’ve noticed I’m getting really tired after holding it for only a couple of minutes.”
Gabriela hugged her best friend as she continued crying on her shoulder. The pair have been best friends for thirteen years, Gabriela has never seen Luisa break down in front of her before. She has come to her for many things, and she was always the one to offer her help when needed, and vice versa. However, not once during that time did she ever experience Luisa so desperate for help that she broke down.
“Luisa, I want you to know that I’m here for you. I understand that you may not want my help, but I’m offering it to you. You’re my best friend in the entire world and I don’t like to see you struggle.”
Luisa stopped crying and hugged Gabriela once more when she reached her arms out for her. While she did not want to admit it at the moment, she really did need help. Knowing that Gabriela was there to ensure that she would be there put her at ease and made her more comfortable with admitting that she needed help. It made her feel like a lot of weight was taken off of her shoulders.
“Actually, Gabi, I do want your help; in fact, I need your help. You’re one of the only people I can comfortably admit to that.”
Gabriela smiled and gave Luisa another hug. She then wiped the final tear on her face and Luisa smiled at her. Gabi moved a piece of Luisa’s hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear before they got up and looked at the building.
“So, what do you need help with?” Gabriela asked.
“It’s more that I’ve been tired after a while. I guess the burnout has been getting to me since I still have trouble asking for help. Maybe I could get one side of the church and you could get the other side?”
“I’m not sure if that would be strong enough for just me. I would need many more people to help us…” Gabriela then smiled as an idea sparked in her head. “Wait here!”
Gabriela then ran off and Luisa stayed by the church to wait for the surprise that Gabriela was going to get. After about a half hour, Gabriela came back with Jose and Lucia on both sides of her.
“Since I know I’m not the only one that is able to help you, I got my siblings with me to help you!”
“Gabi told us about the pickle you’re in, so we wanted to give you a helping hand,” Lucia pointed out.
“But isn’t it still going to be too much for just the three of you?”
“They’re not the only ones,” said Gabriela.
Gabriela then revealed that Isabela, Dolores, Camilo, Mirabel, and Antonio all came with her. She was not only going to have three people help her; she was going to have eight people help! Knowing that Gabriela got her sisters and cousins to help her made her realize how much of a great friend she was. She knew she was an amazing friend since they first became friends, but this solidified how kind and helpful she was.
“So which side do you want us to be on?” Mirabel asked.
Luisa thought before she replied. I want Antonio and Lucia to be on one side with me since they’re the smallest ones. Mirabel and Jose can go on the opposite side. Camilo and Isabela can take the left side, and Dolores and Gabriela can take the right.”
All three sibling groups split up to take their side of the church building. All nine of them put their hands on the bottom of the edge of the church they were assigned. Once everyone found an area they could lift, Luisa called everyone for attention.
“Okay, on the count of three, we lift. Uno, dos tres!”
All three sibling groups lifted the church together successfully and started to move it. They started with little steps to make sure they were in sync with each other. One of the things they tried their hardest to do since repairing Casita was to use as much teamwork as they could with each other. Ever since then, they have been working together much more and it has helped them with so many things.
It was not long until they made their way to where the church was going to be relocated to. The nine of them slowly put the building down where Luisa was asked to put it. Once the building was put down, the nine of them backed away to see how it looked; they cheered and high-fived each other once they noticed how the church looked.
“It looks amazing! Gracias, Gabriela, for getting everyone to help me!” Luisa pointed out.
“De nada, Luisa; like I said, seeing you struggle doesn’t make me feel good at all. So I found everyone I could to help us.”
“It does feel pretty good to do something for the village other than growing flowers and other plants for everyone,” said Isabela.
“And doing something for the village in general feels great,” Mirabel added.
The nine children hugged each other once more to appreciate their hard work again. As much as they wanted to stay and appreciate it more, it was getting late and it was almost time for them to go home and eat dinner.
“Do you want to ask your parents if you could stay for dinner tonight? It’s the least we could do for your help,” Luisa asked.
“I would love that,” Gabriela replied.

Isabela: Lesbi-honest here.
Dolores: So let me get this straight?
Mirabel: More like let me run this bi you.
Camilo: Let’s just see how this pans out.
Luisa: We should ace-ess the situation.
Isabela: I’m gay.

So... I've got this idea a few months ago...
What if after the argument, instead of dying, the magic turns Madrigals' gifts into curses in order to save itself...
CW: traumas, body modifications
Isabela: The plants are growing inside of her body, replacing her flesh. Causing severe bleeding. And attempts to remove plants only making it worse. She still tries tho and gets a lot of scars from removed vines. Not like it's matter, they will be replaced with plants anyway.
Dolores: The vibration from sounds starts to affect her body. It works like electricity. Quiet sounds are painful. But loud... Loud sound can cause heart failure. She just stays in her room the entire time, isolated, so she won't die.
Luisa: Her body slowly turns into a stone statue, cell by cell. Her mobility is also dissapearing since her joints being a fused pieces of stone. No need to tell that it's extremely painful. The fact that she can see how the difficulty of the simple movements grows only makes her more terrified.
Camilo: He shapeshifts uncontrollably. His curse usually combines the details from different people, making it even worse. For example, he might have Luisa's arms with Antonio's body and legs and Mirabel's head. Everything in its original size. Or somebody's leg instead of head... There's endless possibilities.
Antonio isn't affected. He's five and he only got his gift. It would be too cruel even for the curse. So he just loses his new ability, without any effect. The other Madrigals are keeping their gifts, but control over them is awful.
Alma, Mirabel, Felix and Agústin aren't cursed as well, since they didn't have gifts to begin with. But the whole situation can be viewed as the punishment for Alma.
And I'm not sure about the triplets. I think that Julieta might get back all the injuries she ever healed and Pepa's emotions being affected be the weather. But I don't want it to be too deathly (there's no point in curse if they die instantly) or predictable (that's why Dolores'/Luisa's curses aren't based on hearing/strength) And I have no idea about Bruno. You're welcome to give me ideas about their curses

Let everybody be messy
So Primos is coming out in a few days. It looks bland (I've never seen Loud House or Casagrandes); mostly I'm still mad at how the main voice actress spoke about the controversy. There is, however 'good for children' it may be, one thing that stood out to me about this show and what it was being criticized for and that's the backgrounds.
Tater and her family have a very messy, unkept house. Not hoarder bad but messy. Among the talk of the show being racist and making latinos look bad, this was one talking point I remember people harping on: that the messy house was demeaning to hispanic people and made them look ''dirty''.
The thing is, while I don't condone things like unsafe plugs being shown on screen, I myself have grown up in and around a lot of messy homes. I don't think it's inherent strike against the show to have the reality of messy homes be a part of the visuals - or, to put it another way, I think it's sad that me and my white family can be messy and get nothing for it but a latino home gets deemed 'gross' or 'unsanitary' for the same thing. Messy homes happen. Especially when you are busy and ESPECIALLY if you have kids.
My paternal grandma was a dean of graduate studies at a university. It was a prestigious job and she was the matriarch of our family because of it, but she did NOT have gigantic house. She was busy grading essays, dissertations and finals in her room all day. She also had SEVEN kids and lots of grandkids who were all trying but unable to truly clean after themselves all the time so the house was always cluttered. Because she was always so busy and so was every one of her children, we didn't eat luxurious things and her kitchen was especially wrecked.
I don't have pictures, but to put it a different way I'm not ashamed of that reality. It wasn't hoarding, it was just what being in a house owned by that person and filled up with my whole family was like.
My grandma was Polish-American. I just find it sad that for any non-white family this real-but-expected outcome of living is seen as making you look bad. That's just not fair.
There's a lot of things that should be seen as universally quirky or just part of living that I see people of color get judged for. (cw: non-mutilated but still very much human-corpse) Caitlyn Doughty did a whole video about it with a rapper who wanted his body propped up like he was DJing at his funeral. A white biker got to be buried on his bike; it's unfair that we see it as 'creepy' or 'gross' if a BIPOC person does it. It's not creepy and gross. There are customs in world cultures that ought to die because they are bad for everyone (Russia and circus bears; east Asia and Ikizukuri, cockfighting anywhere, America and rattlesnake roundups, something that's not animal-related but I'm stuck on the animal ones rn sorry, ect) but then there are customs which are not fair to judge or rule as evil because they aren't 'yours'. In other news, water is wet. And, if it isn't customs, it's double standards.
Let everyone be their own trashy. You don't know their lives. Leave people with messy homes alone. If it's not hoarding or distinctly unsafe it's not fair of you to judge. And if it being grubby or messy around a person's home leads you to think less of them as people and as a culture, get a life! That's a you problem!

I wasn't expecting to do a roundup when I hit the mall today. I went to Rue 21 and didn't see anything new. Nothing new at Hot Topic, and the streetwear booth rarely has new designs, which makes no sense to me because searching "rick and morty gangster" provides a wealth of images to steal.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/135a2bf81732e8ef12d5b9f2afa6d409/8e30f1fd07743291-cd/s540x810/ea2bc67db26c7a339587ceb79f8826727062b2b9.jpg)
I didn't think Spencer's would have new merchandise either, but I decided to hold my breath and go in there anyway.
If you don't have a Spencer's in your area, you probably wonder why I complain about it. This is a taster of what I have to endure:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4c2940aeb138a8a2df37d7b1c3c426bc/8e30f1fd07743291-12/s540x810/40f98e5dac371abcccd50544fac75c8d042bb3e6.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cfee9cec69326e594de22bba04d5aa1d/8e30f1fd07743291-bc/s540x810/a352c272f4596fcdf4d6fe0af63ef6d261628259.jpg)
I was about to take that second picture when a little girl ran over and started squeezing the boob ball. I guess she didn't know what it was. (Or did she? 🤔)
Spencer's is 4chan if it were a store. But when I walked around the store, I couldn't believe that I doubted whether they'd have merchandise. Their dedication to Rick and Morty makes the rest of us look like chumps.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7f9a015812491d1fc4062823b17989b3/8e30f1fd07743291-ba/s540x810/0159905cd053ca15463d2b119623c4094e398a9f.jpg)
Finally, a poster for the Rick fuckers who want a shirtless Rick on their wall! I actually love the colors and style. It's nice to see merchandise that's a little different. Trippy artwork captures the show's spirit more than those generic season one images that we see everywhere.
This design isn't new, but it's the first time that I've seen it on a cannabis jar.

I love the illustrations on this wallet. They're so vibrant.

A hat with Rick insects (or Ricksects) on it. Definitely a little different.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f371a5ee680667325032c57af5d892fd/8e30f1fd07743291-5b/s540x810/6ffee5ed9a0e8ecc40d4679ef739cfa1d933e1c0.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3fae98b9ab70e4bae756a02e37e9fe20/8e30f1fd07743291-d0/s540x810/ae224db475914e1904e53f89a22d3fe01b2892cd.jpg)
Pajama pants featuring Evil Morty! I don't see him on merchandise that often.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/73e15b4971e1a874c41b29b52107778a/8e30f1fd07743291-e8/s540x810/e326c950a8c8c69000c99fe1840f6ba528b03aef.jpg)
And Pickle Rick was back in stock. Man, I never get tired of seeing that guy!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5ea74f2b3df1755bf8a05f8fdc895333/8e30f1fd07743291-4e/s540x810/422043673ea0f83a0daaee79bce314c727a687c4.jpg)
Finally, I stopped in one of the "nerd" stores before the mall closed. Looks like they got a new poster in stock but without a color picture.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/79de9d646e78e903ee2e05f3fcd222a9/8e30f1fd07743291-a8/s540x810/b115c90daecc9e096c2a017fa02ca9537fa80e45.jpg)
When is the merchandise going to catch up to the series? I've seen one season five calendar and Mr. Nimbus on shirts and boxers, and that's it. Nothing from season six. Nearly everything is from seasons 1-3 with the occasional season four appearance. I guess Rick is less marketable when he's acting like a human being instead of yelling hoarsely at his grandkids.
Anyway, Spencer's has a whole rack full of boob merchandise, so if you've ever watched the series and thought "Man, I wish I could go to Boob World!"--it's here, and it's in the mall.

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with joy and delicious food! We sure did—our home was bustling with six of our nine grandkids, and it was loud, lively, and absolutely fabulous! My aunt joined us from Houston, making it even more special. Now, we're gearing up for all the Christmas festivities. We'll be taking a quick trip to Nashville to celebrate with our crew there, and then we'll enjoy more holiday cheer with all our Texans!
November was a whirlwind—busy enough to make our heads spin! Christmas Roundup in Amarillo was absolutely spectacular, and I want to give a huge shoutout to Lexie, Laura, and Kaysea for managing that enormous task while I was busy being Grammy. They handled it flawlessly, as always!
The Charcuterie Workshop was an absolute blast! We had 30 participants, and the laughter filled the room—it was such a joy to see everyone having a great time. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Our 14th Annual Ladies' Night Out Event was another smashing success. Seeing you all lining up more than an hour before we opened truly warms my heart. Your loyalty means the world to us, and we can’t thank you enough. A big thank you as well for your amazing support on Small Business Saturday—it’s because of you that we’re able to do what we love. As we wrap up the year, we want to express our deepest gratitude for making it such a memorable one. Here’s to an incredible year ahead, and we wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎄❤️
Take care friends,
Bill & Deanna

Feedist Kinktober - Day 8
(Prompt: Ren Faire 👑)
[Content notes: fat FtM main character; fat cis woman supporting character; sibling dynamics; competitive eating; stuffing; descriptions of fullness; fat shaming/teasing]
[Author's note: Apparently I never posted this one, and only noticed when I was preparing my end-of-month story roundup; since I posted another Flynn story today, I figured it'd be a good time to also post this one.]
Eating Contest
"Flynn, buddy, I am just here to look hot in an old-timey dress, hit on cute girls, and drink beer out of a tankard. Happy to cheer you on, but I'm not doing the eating contest with you."
Flynn looked over at the tent where the eating contest was being held. It was held every year as part of the local Ren Faire that he and his sister Heather attended, and he'd always wanted to try it, but he'd never had the confidence before his transition and even now he still felt a bit nervous. Being generally seen as a bigger guy rather than a girl hadn't done a ton for his confidence with eating in public, but some part of him was excited to finally try this.
And Heather would at least be there supporting him in theory, that might be okay.
So he stepped into the tent, paid the fee, and looked around at his potential competition. There weren't that many people around, which made Flynn relax a bit.
He sat down at the contest table, watched Heather (having already found herself a tankard of beer) saunter off to the audience area, and then sized up his competition.
He saw about ten people, all of different shapes, sizes, ages, and genders. At the end of the table was a chubby elderly woman, flanked by a couple of teenagers who were presumably her grandkids. Next to him was this really buff white guy being patted on the back by a short, fat brown-skinned woman a flowing blue dress.
Flynn, who had been single a long time, felt a bit jealous of the guy. When the man caught Flynn's glance and reached over to shake his hand with a big smile, Flynn limply took it and tentatively shook.
"Hey buddy, I'm Luke" he said, and the pointed back to the woman in the blue dress, "And this is my wife Jasmine. This your first time?"
Flynn nodded slowly.
Luke laughed. "Ah well, you'll get the hang of it. I live for this kinda thing. My wife and I travel around, hitting up these things. I mean, what could be better? Competitive gourmandizing? That's, like, the pinnacle of humanity. It has the thrill of competition, and food! Have yet to win though."
Flynn just smiled until Luke started chatting up the tall, skinny woman on the other side of him.
New people could be such a pain in the ass, especially when Flynn didn't know if they were queer or not. It wasn't so much that he was all that worried about getting clocked anymore; already being 5'11", the magic of top surgery, and now mostly being able to grow a beard had taken care of those worries. It's just that he couldn't really imagine living the kind of life a guy like Luke probably did.
Like, Luke probably met his wife in college, got some corporate job, worked his way up and is now, like, senior manager assistant to the VP or whatever with five houses and two and a half kids.
Whereas Flynn, although he liked his job at the software company, had never really moved up in the company and had only really dated once, and that girl had dumped him when he said he was planning to transition, although it wasn't directly related to that, or so she had told him.
It just felt like there was a hopeless chasm between him and people who never had to think about their gender for a single second.
The announcer, a blonde middle-aged woman in a cornucopia hat, stepping up to her podium stopped Flynn from floating off too far into self-pity.
The contest itself is simple enough. It was just a simple hamburger-eating competition. Competitors could drink as much water as they wanted, submit when they wanted, and the whole thing was timed, so if they couldn't meet a certain threshold they would be eliminated.
Luke reached out his fist to Flynn. Flynn stared at him, puzzled for a second, before Luke finished the fist bump. "Hope you do great, my man."
"U-um, you as well," Flynn replied, dumbfounded.
"Hell yeah," Luke replied.
The announcer called for the first round to begin, and Flynn immediately got started. The burgers were luckily delicious, perfectly charred, with a light and fluffy bun with no sauce of any kind, just the way he liked it, and something that always made Heather annoyed at him at barbecues.
"Freakin' weird, monk ass burger; put some ketchup on there at least; no wonder you can't find a partner."
Flynn had made it through the first round. The older woman had tapped out, and the bigger guy with the ponytail down near the end of the table ran out of time to eat another burger.
The first few rounds were fine. Flynn was used to eating quite a few of these on his own. He loved the feeling of being full, always had in fact. Just something about it made him feel warm, happy, like everything was going to be okay.
By the fifth round, Luke tapped out. He slapped his hand on the table and said, "That's it for me, then. Damn," and let his wife help him stand.
He glanced at Flynn. "Don't let me down, big guy. I'll be rooting for you."
Feeling weirdly inspired by that, Flynn polished off the last of the burgers on his plate, ending the round.
Until now caught up in his food-induced reverie, Flynn finally looked up after Luke had left and saw that he and the tall, skinny woman were the only ones left.
He glanced over to the crowd and saw Luke and his wife cheering, and saw Heather---tankard of beer in hand---shouting, "Go Flynn! Eat that goddamn mofo under the table!"
Flynn met the eyes of the skinny woman. He waved politely. She smiled and waved back.
After a brief pause, they were presented with their plates and Flynn was back to it.
Except something seemed off.
It was like the room had suddenly gotten five degrees warmer. And his pants were feeling awfully snug, weren't they? Well, they were pretty tight to begin with, weren't they?
He wiped his forehead with his napkin. God, it really was hot though, wasn't it.
And he didn't want to be the "ate so much he had to unbutton his pants" guy, but he told himself this was an eating contest and needs must if he wanted to---
The cheap, tinny buzzer sounded and Flynn looked up. The skinny woman was holding her distended belly and smiling as people were coming over to her table and shaking her hand, her face bright red and with a blissful smile.
Oh. So that's what had happened. In his struggle to get more comfortable, he'd run out of time and his opponent had won.
Still, he looked down at his heaving belly, now freed from his jeans. He'd done damn well, if he said so himself. He'd spent time doing exactly what he loved, and not giving a shit about what other people thought of him. He was fat, full, and happy.
A smile crept across his face, and he looked over at the woman who'd won. They shared a glance before she was helped to her feet by a middle-aged Asian guy in a black polo shirt.
He watched her walking away, savoring the moment until he felt a heavy slap on his shoulder.
"Ya lost asshole." His sister declared. "What's the point of being such a fatass if you can't win at an eating contest?"
He looked up. "You didn't compete. And you're fatter than me."
She sipped her beer and looked away. "I...am a princess. A princess would never stoop to something as gauche as competitive eating."
"Whatever. I'm happy you stayed for the whole thing."
Heather shrugged. "Didn't really see any cute girls so I was kinda forced to."
"But I appreciate it."
Heather just rolled her eyes. That was just how things were with her. Any hint of affection and she was back to snark. "Yeah, yeah. So anyway, you need me to get you out of that chair, or are we gonna need a forklift?"
He smiled weakly and held up his arms. "Would you?"
And then she carefully set down her beer, looked at him and gently said "Okay, take my hands," and with some effort pulled him to his feet.
"Thanks Heather."
"Okay, whatever. So are you good though?"
"I'm good."
"Awesome," she replied. "So you feel up to a tankard?" she asked, clinking her now-empty vessel at Flynn.
He just laughed as they began walking, him struggling a bit from his full belly sloshing around. "Maybe a glass of water?"
"Weakling," she scoffed. "You'll never be a champion eater with that attitude." She looked at him for a second, her face softening into a smile. "But okay, water it is."
