Today marks the end of the Affordable Connectivity Program, a landmark piece of US government legislation that aimed to make it easier for people to afford an internet connection in their homes. The program’s end marks a big shift, with the cessation of benefits set to affect millions of Americans who might need them most.
What Is the Affordable Connectivity Program?
In 2021, the US Congress passed the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal. It was a massive, ambitious piece of legislation that aimed to shore up a variety of floundering industries, including transit networks, energy systems, and public utilities. The ACP was part of that deal. It set aside $14.2 billion to fund credits that could help low-income households afford high-speed internet. If a family’s household income was below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guideline per year, they were eligible for a $30 monthly credit on their broadband bill. People living on Tribal lands were eligible to receive up to $75.
Today, all that is going away.
It’s certainly not an ideal situation, considering that access to the internet is a necessity in modern society, especially in the post-Covid era, when remote work has been normalized. Not being able to get online can contribute to a widening digital divide, where people without internet access can fall behind socially and economically. Americans who have come to depend on the discount will see their internet bills spike and will potentially be forced to balance the increased cost with paying for food, rent, and other essential needs. Not to mention that many ACP beneficiaries had come to rely on getting their internet for free; initial urging by the White House led to many internet providers offering plans with minimum download speeds of 100 Mbps for $30 a month. Customers who were applying their ACP benefit to these plans were getting internet access for free. Starting tomorrow, they will have to start paying for it.
Why Is the ACP Expiring?
The problem is funding. Like with any federal funding, there’s a limit to how long a program can go on without being renewed by Congress. The Biden administration has made several pleas to lawmakers to save the program, including one last October requesting a $6 billion investment to continue the program, among other domestic spending. Despite that and a number of pleas from advocacy groups and organizations like the Federal Communications Commission, nothing came of these attempts, and the program has officially lapsed.
Who’s Affected?
According to the White House, more than 23 million households have taken advantage of the program since it went into effect. That’s a staggering number—roughly one in six households—who now have to find another way to scrape together the funds to stay connected.
The end of the ACP is not exactly a surprise for the organizations that support it. In anticipation of the future lack of funding, the ACP stopped accepting applications for the program in February 2024. According to the US Federal Communications Commission, networks are required to alert users that the program has come to an end, so affected households should have received notices about the wind-down.
What Happens Next?
Unfortunately, any of the families who have been getting the ACP benefit will have to start paying full price for their internet connections—provided they’re able to afford it. If a household’s income is below 200 percent of the federal poverty line, or if the household claims other government benefits like SNAP, Medicaid, or Social Security, there’s a way to get a similar reduction in internet cost, albeit a much smaller one. The Universal Service Administrative Company offers a service called Lifeline, which can pay up to $9.25 per month for a connection (and up to $34.25 per month for anyone living on qualifying Tribal lands).
In a press conference yesterday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated the Biden administration’s stance of pushing big telecom companies to continue honoring the ACP rules despite the lack of funding, saying, “We announced earlier this month that we are encouraging providers to take steps to keep their consumers connected at this crucial time by over low-cost, no-cost plans.” However, it isn’t clear whether any of the providers will be keen to play along.
If you’re affected, your internet provider should have already sent you two notifications about your service. If that’s not the case, you should contact your provider. Ultimately, affected users will have to decide whether to continue their service at the new price. The FCC has an information page about the ACP wind-down, where it also encourages filing complaints.

what are your fav kdramas?
Yay! An ask on my main tumblr!! I have SO many favorite k-dramas that I love for different reasons but these are the ones that come to mind that I think about a lot.
Most of My favorite K-dramas:
Extraordinary You/ A Day Found By Chance (fantasy/romance): This magical k-drama has my heart. It plays with all of the predictable tropes and then just goes crazy! While not perfect towards the end, I give this show bonus points for being super creative AND inspiring me to read a LOT of fan fic. I think about this drama more than any other.
Fight for My Way (romcom) I love this drama! The couple is one of my OTPs and it’s really funny and a mostly lighthearted story of a group of friends. It’s down to earth and adorable - I’ve never had anyone complain about this one!
Melo Is My Nature (slice of life): This drama is by far my favorite slice-of-life drama of 2019. Found family, strong and complex characters, I laughed, I cried. Plus a gay character that’s an actual character, with the gay as a casual side note (classy k-drama!!) It was just a perfect show for me. There’s romance, but all of the stories are super interesting.
I think about this drama more than any other and Eun Dan Oh is so special!!
Tumblr media
Shopping King Louie (romcom): Ridiculously fun and lighthearted romp following a spoiled and useless chaebol with amnesia who is being taken care of by a country bumpkin in the city. Very low stakes, super adorable couple, and as many tropes as you can fit in your bag, this one is one of my favorites to recommend.
Just Between Lovers (romance/melo): Slice of Life romance between poor trauma babies just trying to live! The OTP is one of my favorite couples EVER and even as the years go on, very few couples have matched their love in my opinion. There’s a lot of comfort/healing themes with for me is just *chef’s kiss.* Lee Junho became my bias wrecker because of that drama.
The Eighth Sense (bl queer romance): This is the only 2023 drama to make this list! It's super atmospheric and has so much more character development than any korean bl I've ever seen. I loved it so much!
Run On: (rom com) This show follows four people in their daily lives: An athletic, a translator, a CEO and an artist. Soft soft couples!! Y'all know I love this slice of life rom com for so many reasons, but you might not know that Kang Tae Oh’s character (the himbo painter) is like one of my dream boys. BLORBO FROM MY SHOWS. Also there is so much bi nuance and an ace character, just saying!
Tumblr media
The Best Hit / Hit The Top (romcom): A famous 90′s boyband dude travels into the future and meets up with his family and friends in this really cute drama featuring Yoon Shi Yoon. I LOVE Yoon Shi Yoon in pretty much everything but this role was made for him - he is hilarious. It’s a slice of life but features the k-pop music industry so the setting is unique.
Into The Ring (workplace/romcom): The perfect slice-of-life rom com! Goo Se Ra has trouble holding down a job due to her passionate personality so after she loses her latest job working for the ML, she decides to run for a small government office position because it pays a salary. Literally she does it for the money which is just *chef’s kiss.* The show is about her dealing with local politics and it’s SO FUNNY and smart and the OTP is the best!
Flower of Evil: A psychological thriller centered around a jewelry maker who is running from his past, and his cop wife (power couple alert!)  who doesn’t know his original identity. The chemistry of the couple is amazing and all of the characters are nuanced and interesting. I was on the edge of my seat, AND sobbing! I’m going to be rewatching this in 2021 for sure.
The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (psychological thriller): This drama has a lot of psychological thriller-y aspects but the style of filming is really interesting and the leads could not be more angsty (especially the guy). It takes them a while to get together and while not entirely pleasant, this show is one of my faves.
Healer: Everyone knows healer will always have my heart and it’s a super popular k-drama. Healer is played by Ji Chang Wook (swoon) and he gets involved with a feisty reporter played by Park Min Young (also swoon). It’s an action adventure with some very classic tropes: Rich people scandals, murders and hidden pasts. But it also has some of my favorite tropes: Beta Male Lead, childhood friends to lovers and traumatic pasts.
Cheating because it's a jdrama: Cherry Magic! (30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii): I know this is a Jdrama but it’s the only drama that got a perfect score from me in 2020! If you’ve never felt like trying a jdrama, Cherry Magic is the one! Every episode was so endearing and sweet, and it even has ace representation, and does it well! I basically smiled the whole time and loved every second. Soft Romance and the best couple!

A good walk spoiled (by greed).
June 7, 2023
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
JUN 7, 2023
On a day of significant political news, it might seem strange to start with a discussion of the merger between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf. But the development provides a deep and disturbing view of the seemingly irresistible corrupting power of money. Specifically, blood money from Saudi Arabia, a nation intent on “sports-washing” its reputation as a regime known for human rights abuses, unresolved responsibility in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US, and the recent assassination of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi.
Rather than making you sit through a long explanation to hear my takeaway, here it is: In the near future, American advertisers will face a choice: Promote a sport that is owned by a nation with unresolved connections to the 9/11 terrorist attacks or walk away from professional golf in a show of support for the victims and survivors of 9/11 (and the family of journalist Jamal Khashoggi).
Spoiler alert: American corporations will not hesitate for a nanosecond to renew their golf sponsorships despite the blood money infusion from Saudi Arabia.
For readers who do not care about golf, the synopsis is this: the PGA previously ruled the professional golf world. Saudi Arabia created a competing organization (LIV Golf) and convinced many premier PGA golfers to join LIV. Litigation ensued, bitter feelings boiled over, and today the competing entities agreed to merge into a new entity in which Saudi Arabia is the sole investor with first right of refusal on future investments in the newly created entity. Oh, and a representative of the Saudi government investment fund will serve as the first chairman of the board of directors of the newly created entity. In other words, Saudi Arabia just bought the game of professional golf worldwide.
So, what’s the big deal? Why should we care about rich athletes getting richer?
The “big deal” is that Saudi Arabia’s role in the 9/11 terrorist attacks continues to be shrouded in secrecy and redactions in official reports. Fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 hijackers were Saudi nationals, and all were members of al Qaeda. The 9/11 Commission found no evidence tying Saudi government officials directly to the hijackers, although Saudi Arabia was the primary source of funding for al Qaeda.
A subsequent FBI report casts doubt on the 9/11 Commission’s conclusion absolving Saudi Arabia. President Biden released the FBI report in 2021—but the report contained significant redactions. Family of 9/11 victims continue to pressure the US government to reveal everything it knows about Saudi Arabia’s connection to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
But there is less ambiguity regarding Saudi Arabia’s complicity in the gruesome assassination of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi. The CIA concluded that Saudi Arabia’s Prince Muhammed bin Salman likely ordered the killing of Khashoggi in 2017. When questioned about the CIA’s conclusion of MBS’s complicity, Trump responded in 2018 that Saudi Arabia was a “truly spectacular ally in terms of jobs and economic development.” Translation: “Murder? What murder? Saudi Arabia means big bucks for the Trump organization.” It can hardly be a coincidence that Saudi Arabia gave Jared Kushner a $2 billion investment in a fledgling investment fund only months after Trump's term ended.
Trump praised Saudi Arabia’s hostile takeover of the PGA in similarly glowing terms on Tuesday:
A BIG, BEAUTIFUL, AND GLAMOUROUS DEAL FOR THE WORLD OF GOLF, CONGRATS TO ALL!!!
Of course, Trump's support was inevitable—because the PGA pulled its tournament out of courses owned by Trump after his attempted coup, while the Saudi-backed LIV had no such qualms. See CNN (7/28/2022), LIV Golf: Controversial Saudi-backed golf tournament to begin Friday at Trump golf course. See the NYTimes from today, Through Ties to Saudis, Golf Deal Promises Benefits to Trump.
The reaction of GOP Rep. Nancy Mace serves as a reliable guide to how American corporations will react to Saudi Arabia’s takeover of the PGA. Mace is the Chair of the Congressional Golf Caucus (reflect on that ludicrous fact for a moment!). Mace said the following:
Obviously Saudi money being involved ... you know, I’d have some concerns over that. But look at my district — we’ve got over 30 golf courses.
For Rep. Nancy Mace, moral concerns over Saudi Arabia’s murderous regime amounted to a speed bump that didn’t slow her support for the deal for more than the time it took to utter two sentences. Expect the same from American corporations. I hope I am spectacularly wrong.
Family members of 9/11 victims were stunned by the development. The chairman of the 9/11 victims fund said,
The PGA and [Commissioner] Monahan appear to have become just more paid Saudi shills, taking billions of dollars to cleanse the Saudi reputation. [¶] [PGA Commissioner] Monahan talked last summer about knowing people who lost loved ones on 9/11, then wondered aloud on national television whether LIV golfers ever had to apologize for being a member of the PGA Tour. They do now — as does he. PGA Tour leaders should be ashamed of their hypocrisy and greed.
And even if money is enough to cause the PGA and American businesses to ignore the victims of 9/11, Saudi Arabia is no friend to the US. It colludes with Russia to keep oil prices high—to support Russia’s war on Ukraine and fuel the GOP narrative that the US economy is in shambles. As Business Insider reported yesterday, Saudi's crown prince and Putin are teaming up to keep oil prices high in a geopolitical gambit likely to annoy the US. With allies like Saudi Arabia, who needs enemies?
Someone once said, “Golf is a good walk spoiled.” If the LIV/PGA merger goes through, golf will be a game purchased for thirty pieces of silver and a constant reminder that American business is for sale at the right price—assassinations and support for terrorists notwithstanding.
CNN’s ratings are buckling after its decision to televise a Trump rally under the guise of a “town hall” discussion. When the new Saudi Golf Association begins its tour in the US, let’s hope that enough Americans will turn their backs on the sport to cause a drop in sponsorships, declining interest in the sport, and the emergence of a new association not tainted by Saudi Arabia’s money.

THE RIB PAGE
Mark Zuckerberg is now the second richest man.
*****
Michael Jordon’s 23x1 Racing and Front Row has sued NASCAR and chairman Jm France, calling them, “monolistic bullies.” This is all tied up in revenue sharing. ** Alex Bowman was eliminated from the NASCAR playoffs after his car did not pass inspection after Charlotte.
*****
Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions was injured with a fractured tibia.
*****
Fake reviews on line were already illegal but the Government has gotten serious. IF they catch ya, there will be a $50,000 fine for every time the fake review is shown! This could be a deterrent.  There is also a ban on fake followers for business.
*****
Melania has a new book out. The reviews are bad but she makes clear that she believes a woman should have a choice with her body. ** She also claims that she didn’t know what was going on with Jan. 6 because she was renovating the White House. This has since been proven wrong. Many in the White House at the time have said she knew everything that was going on. She just did not seem to care. She now lives in NY with Baron. An insider claims she is practically a hermit. In the WH, she and her family spoke mostly in Slovenian and her husband does not know the language. She charges a fee to speak at rally’s, including for Scary Clown 45. Her codename in the WH was Choad.
*****
Harris/ Walz made $28 mil fundraising in California.  Yippee- ki- Yay Mother Trumpers. - Colbert ** She has since raised over a billion in all. ** Kamala was President for 85 minutes on Nov. 19, 2021. Time to put her back in the office!!
*****
Steve Bannon is out of jail. ** Jill Stein is a Russian agent. - James Carville
*****
A skull was found in Illinois in 1978 and has finally been ID’d. Esther Granger died in childbirth in Merrilville, Indiana in 1866. Nobody knows why her skull was found in another state but the theory is possible grave robbery for profit. ** Another cold case was solved when DNA proved that serial killer Bruce Lindhall was responsible for the death of 19 yr. Old Kathy Halle in Aurora, Il. in 1979.
*****
ABC: Please keep Will Trent around. The characters are so real and can’t wait for season 3!! ** NBC: Thanx for The Irrational. Luv it!
*****
Saw Andy Richter on an old podcast and he mentioned Andy Barker P.I. OMG.. I own it and pull it out once in a while because it is so fucking funny. I think there should be a movie!! C’mon bring it back!!
*****
I am not so sure that this whole, “Midwest nice” thing applies to Illinois. That is ok.. Illinois is just scrappy!
*****
Days alert: Fiona grew on me. Serena Scott Thomas did a great job and I am surprised things were wrapped up this fast. Or are they?? Suddenly she is out of jail. Xander and Sara had some great scenes too and they are by far, Salem’s best young couple. At least they are great until Xander does whatever the Hell he wants for Sara’s own good even tho she absolutely does not want it. ** Love seeing Steve and Kayla on the case for Chad. Who knew that Constantine’s story would go on? It is so sad that John Black was smack in the middle of this story. ** So glad that JJ is back. Please keep him around!! And I am lovin’ Aaron and Felicity. Can we beef up their roles?? ** So glad that Nancy is back with Joy. It is about time we see Joy!!! Phillip is also back so it is time for Chloe and Parker!
*****
Isn’t it strange that about half the congress do not want to have physically and mentally healthy people in their country? When will we ever get universal health care? ** I mean, we know it is a cult with all the “yes sir” shit et al so why do we give it any air time anymore?? We should not have to listen to lie after lie. Let’s hope that after Scary Clown loses, we only have to hear about court cases and that’s it. I hope the media just shows his clips and makes no comments. He loves to be talked about. Let’s stop doing that for him. He loves to see us outraged, to get us riled up, so let’s not give it to him. ** Do we remember that it was the Trump administration that offered Trans gender affirming care? So R they for or against the Trans community? ** What happens to the Trumpers? I mean, Megyn Kelly has the same wide eyed crazy talk goin as MTG. Were they always this way or do they go thru a process to keep them from understanding sane talking points? And Tucker Carlson is becoming even more unhinged everyday. ** Is it strange that the first time that Trump ran was the same year that we had all the creepy clown sightings? ** At least the unknown comic from the rally will gets lots of work with the rest of the racists. He is probably a hot ticket in that world.
*****
The “Central Park 5” have sued Trump for monetary damages, reputational and emotional harm and punitive damages. At the Sept. 10 debate, he once again waded into this mess that he can’t let go of. Yusef Salaam. Ray Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron Brown and Korey Wise have had enough. The rest of the country knows they are innocent. Will the lawsuit finally convince the former President?
*****
Eric Trump is now a Deputy Sheriff in St. Lucie County in Fla. ** The Army released its report about the Trump in Arlington Cemetery incident. It is so redacted that it really tells us nothing.
*****
How about a call back to Grace and Frankie doing a crossover with Only Murders in the Building?
*****
Jeff Bezos decided not to endorse anyone for Pres. in the Washington Post. His space co. Blue Origin met with Trump on the day they announced they would not endorse. Why are they all suck pussies when it comes to Trump? Over 200,000 people cancelled their subscription. ** Eric Adams has been sticking up for Trump. Big surprise.
*****
Terry and Candace Stevens of Alabama have grown a 16 ft. 10 in. Okra plant.
*****
Hey.. Let’s slow down the ships out there. It is getting a little dangerous on the ocean. ** Check out Happy Whale.com
*****
North Korea sent about 8,000 troops to Russia to fight Ukraine.
*****
When I see things like Texas law enforcement searching, liberal, possible immigrant homes for evidence of voter wrongdoing, it is mindboggling that we are in America. At least with social media, we now know about these things right away. This is the big plus of the new tech. 100 years ago, they may have hurt, threatened or killed these people and we may never know. I know they want to go back to their, “good old days” but OMG!!! ** Of course, there are many downsides to tech like lone wolves who feel so emboldened because somebody is finally listening. ** And now the Trumpers do not want circumcisions?
*****
I need the kind of Generals that Hitler had. - Scary Clown 45 ** Except for maybe Manson, I don’t think I have seen a man in our modern age who loves Adolf so much. ** Try not to October Surprise yourself. - Stephen Colbert
*****
This election is sort of us playing out the FINAL end to Bobby Riggs and Bille Jean King.

*****
Bob Odenkirk, Bill Burr, Michael Mckean and Kieran Culkin will come to Broadway with Glengarry Glen Ross!!!!!!!

The LA Dodgers won  the World Series!!!!!

Support the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. 17 states (Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia) have passed this. End the Electoral college!!
*****
We all have these different IDEAS and different opinions about what’s true and what’s not. -Zachary Levi
*****
Is it strange that Trump pretended to work at McDonald’s and now they are being sued over onions?
*****
The VP debate was somewhat cordial. Walz appeared quite nervous at first but nailed it in the end. JD Vance felt he should give us a little history of his life and not admit that Trump lost the last election. Vance mostly put down Harris and Walz talked too much about Minnesota. It would have been a great drinking game to chug when we heard, “Minnesota.” I was so hoping the moderators would ask Vance about the’ concepts of a plan.’ Walz missed a great chance to call him on the ridic Ohio story. Vance talked about “schools in crisis.” and the Springfield, OH school were in crisis because of bomb threats brought on by their nonsense.  ** Walz was much better on Kimmel.
*****
There was a guy killing geese in Clark Co. Ohio. It was a 64 -year old white man.
*****
You can never ban abortion. You can only ban safe abortion.
*****
We will be collateral damage to your rage. - Michelle Obama
*****
Harris had a great interview on 60 minutes. Trump pulled out of his interview, apparently because they would be fact checked. Bret Baier was soft, according to Trump. To me, he was just a rude prick who won’t shut up just like the rest of the Trump team. ** Harris has said she has a Glock. Would Trump even know how to shoot a gun? ** Did Colbert seem a bit whiny that he had to come back for one day during his week off to interview Harris??  All the late nite hosts seem to take a lot of time off. ** I’m not crazy about the way everybody seems to know how Harris should run her campaign. Her team does listen though: They say she should do interviews, she does a bunch. They say she should go to Fox, she does. They bitch about policy, that she has none and they like Trump’s agenda better. Other than Project 2025 that Trump disavows, there is no policy on the republican side. Just bitching and hate and locking up enemies. Harris has made her positions so clear. ** I am not sure about the Julia Roberts/ Harris ad. I do know women like that who are expected to vote the way their hubby tells them. But those women may feel that you are telling them they don’t know their own mind. ** Are we at an impasse in this country? It’s pretty simple: Fascism or democracy?
*****
Trump called Jan. 6, “A day of love” on a Univision town hall.  Donnie Deutsch mentioned that it made him think of that Pepsi harmony song. Are we all the enemy within?? ** A new controversy is brewing about all the contests that Trump runs. He has like 40 contests going and after months there is only 1 winner in a single contest.  ** And, of course, Musk is giving away a million dollars a day to those that sign his America PAC that supports Trump. It may just barely be legal since it isn’t a direct dollar for a vote but charges have been filed. Musk did not show up to court. The Pa. Judge has decided to see if the Federal court will take the case.  Why do they want to make the world such an unhappy place? ** Musk tells us that he is concerned about declining birth rates. He is apparently offering his sperm to friends and acquaintances. ** Word is that if Trump wins, he will put RFK Jr. in charge of the Dept. Of health and or the FDA. What now??
*****
Word is that as the other countries are voting on the outcome of our election, one bet was $30 mil.

We should have done away with that pesky electoral college a long time ago.

Gene Simmons was a guest judge on Dancing with the stars. I admit that I do not watch the show. Folks said he was so creepy with his comments about female contestants. People were a bit grossed out. Why is anybody still inviting him on shows? We know what he is like so you shouldn’t be surprised.

This is so wrong! ** It has always seemed to me that states should have to follow Fed rules in Fed elections.

Copied from source two: the article on Wired:
-------------
Another reason that voting this election is important:
Every single Presidential Election is also a Congressional Election.
There will be members of the House of Representatives and members of the Senate up for election.
Funding for programs like this one is decided in congress and important programs like this one are funded or ended based on the votes of congress people that we elect.
Your votes matter. They determine the laws and programs that we all live under. They determine what kinds of infrastructure are put in place in your state and local areas.
Tumblr media
"Dozens of people joined Biden administration officials, advocates and U.S. Sen. Peter Welch, a Democrat from Vermont, at a Washington public library on Tuesday to make a last-ditch plea to extend the Affordable Connectivity Program, a subsidy created by Congress and touted by President Joe Biden as part of his push to bring internet access to every U.S. household. The program, which is set to expire at the end of May, helps people with limited means pay their broadband bills.
“They need access to high-speed internet just like they need access to electricity,” Sen. Welch told the gathering. “This is what is required in a modern economy.”"

Nevermind the loose dirt. It's my 99 cent grocery store plant rescue that I am trying to save via better soil/re-potting and with bread ties, and my little tiny espresso. The stems were brown when I got it, but I don't think she is gonna make it. Taken a few days ago, but seemed like good photo for this post.
I woke up WAY too early. Again. I either stay awake for like 25 hours, and sleep 8, or the usual 16 hours and sleep about 4 hours. I have had 3 sleep lab tests done (albeit years and years ago) when I kept falling asleep. This was before I had this weird habit I have now. I slept normally back then. Diagnosis: Narcolepsy and non-24 hour sleep cycle (Circadian Rhythm Disorder?). I was a bit blown back, to be honest, especially by Narcolepsy. And guess what? The MD had to report it to the DMV, if I did not. If you have a driver's license, it is stated on it AND you have to be medicated while driving. The medicine was Dexedrine, or pretty much @mphetamine. Makes sense-- Can't be falling asleep while driving. I stayed awake, and my depression lifted. Any MD's reading this-- Please consider it for treatment resistant depression. I never felt hyper on it (I felt nothing, tbh) which would of course, lead me to being diagnosed with ADHD*.
So now, I am an unmedicated ADHD and sleep disorder gal of a mess, hahaha. But I am happy, or at least content. I think it has gotten better, or I have learned how to deal with it. I could not do now what I did in my unmedicated 20's-- Full time school, full time job and a kid. Nope. I have ZERO idea how I did it. The narcolepsy mostly went away. I WILL fall asleep at the theatre, so don't bother inviting me, especially in Plague Era that 99% of people refuse to admit still exists. And it is 50/50 in any dark situation, regardless of how well rested I am.
Luckily, I can now work when I want (other than 2 days a month), and do not have to drive. I do have to set an alarm for three days out of the week for class (it is used as a take a shower and get ready alert bc I keep waking up before it, lol), but luckily it isn't early. I LOVED driving, btw, and I loved cars. But as an American, what else are you supposed to do? Tangent, but... I would re-do SO much in the USA if given the chance. Like...Public transport and social housing. These are looked down upon in the US, which makes it seem SOOOOO odd to me now. Plus the whole gun thang. Sorry, but I will never change my mind. The 2nd Amendment was written for MUSKETS. We have drones now. If you feel the need to open carry a weapon of death to the grocery store, there is something wrong with you. Sorry, not sorry.
I am not exactly against hunting (if you do it for food, not sport). When I was about 12, we moved** to a mostly hillbilly area (not making fun of them-- I mostly like them dern hillbillies, and one of my BF'S was one since I was TWELVE... Though I have not been able to find her since 2021 or early 2022. Covid or went Trump, I do not know. I will continue my search. Her having the most generic name in the English speaking world does not help)). And well, my first look at hunting was not pretty. Dead deer legs, sticking out of truck beds. Like, everywhere. People told me this was normal. I literally vomited and remember thinking and saying, out loud at lunch, ''The fuck, this is NOT normal. Throw a TARP over it, for Christ's sake.''
*Btw, girls and women are SO good at hiding ADHD. We are typically not hyper or rowdy. If we are, it is within our safe spaces, with friends. If your sister/mom/gf/wife tends to forget things you have told her, seems unorganized or stressed over little things, gets bitchy before leaving the house with you, look into it first and do not get upset.
**I was not an Army Brat, but my family did move a lot (6 times, to different states), and it was not because of financial instability. Yes, my parents worked for the government, but not in any military way. So--I learned a new term-- TCK-- Third Culture Kid (also applies to adults). We are GREAT at fitting in anywhere, more empathetic, less racist (bc sometimes, even being white, people are racist if you are the minority. Trust me, I know personally, and it was horrible), tend to attend university more (not saying all should).. But of course there is a catch.
We probably have attachment disorders on all sides. I didn't get the overly attachment type, luckily. If anything, I need help attaching. And I do not have ''the itch'' to move. As an adult, I rented the perfect house for me and my minion at the time. Great school district, fenced in (by chicken wire on one side for most of the time) backyard, walkable to the downtown area in 3 mins, and I was allowed to plant a garden and paint, etc. I did have to mow the effing backyard when my weirdo neighbor went away every summer. Fucker never told me when he was leaving, but the grass length did. I lined the fences with gladiolas and ivy and had a gas BBQ and a nice table and umbrella. I would let my kitties out every now and then, but only when I was there-- they could escape if they wanted to. One was a serial killer, not even kidding. A Persian, fluffy, serial killer. I got minion*** a slip and slide, hahahaha... We threw some pretty good backyard parties. All of my neighbors were snobs. Like Harvard asshole snobbery. Anyway, I lived there the longest-- almost 11 years. My landlord wanted to sell it, and it was sold within about a month and a half. THAT SUCKED and was not expected... Thought I had about 5 or 6 months.
I had to go live with my mother, as she lived in the school district minion was in. Worst decision of my life. I love my mother, and she was really a great mother, but something went CRAZY in 2002 and again in 2014, that I am not yet capable of discussing on a public forum. Thinking of substack. Like a $4 a month thing. This is shit that horribly affected my life, and I needed therapy for-- as an adult. Shit that when I think about, even 8 years later, I still tear up. And I am NOT a cryer. As a mother, she was awesome! She told me to avoid beauty magazines, taught me how to plumb and do home repair, said chose your religion when you are an adult if you want to, and sooooo much more. My father was really great, as well. They stayed married for FAR too long. I think I was about 25 when they got divorced, but it was over my mom being selfish with her health insurance and cutting my dad off. He had a disabling heart attack when he was 42, and died in 2007. My mom cutting off his health insurance was fucking brutal.
The dude was ALWAYS on my side. So, I still say hello from time to time to my mother. Most importantly, I talk to minion, but he is busy working and crushing on some girl, his best friend's girl. They work together and he hates his job. He is waiting for her to give the okay for them to both leave and work somewhere else. I said DO NOT WAIT FOR ANYONE--- EVER!!! He sent me a pic of her and said that sometimes she drinks too much and gets sexual. I was like OMG.
She looks like me and that is what I did when I was younger. Freud, are you out there? It's me, Kara.
And I have lived here the second longest.
And I want to die and be buried here. Every year, there is a free concert, ranging from classical music to rock music, held at the cemetery.
5-30K people can come listen to music, drink a bit, dance, and have fun. That the cemetery I would like to be buried in.
If that is morbid to you, you are not invited. :)
***Minion is now an adult. I am not worried about his financial future (everyone born after The Boomers got fucked, let's be honest)because luckily, I am a Black Sheep, and he will get my inheritance. Good for him! Since I am 34-99 years old (haha), I will not tell you how old he is. Yes, I was married and he was planned. I was TOO young-- but when your spouse made $80k a year in the early 2000s, you figure, nice, I will just raise minion, and then finish school. That did not happen the way I had it planned. The ex husband is still wealthy and lucky, and it pisses me off. If you knew the full story, you would understand. Let's just say that one brutal character mentioned in today's blog had a lot to do with it, including my parent's divorce. I swear it is not some Jerry Springer shit, and they did NOT bang, and luckily, my father and I were together when we found ''the letters''. The Brutal one would end up doing MUCH worse things than having feelings for her daughter's husband, and yeah-- it is personal.
Life is 50% unplannable. I do believe in luck, and I do believe in you get what you give, although I LOATHE woo woo pseudoscience bullshit.
I will NOT be camming tonight. My theatre thing begins tonight. It is only once a month. Last week, I couldn't have a schedule because I still have periods, which are very predictable, but this every 18 days shit is a bit new. Usually its every 25 days, abnormal is under 23 days in between periods. Went to the dr, had hormone levels taken. Good news-- I am NOT an alien. Bad news is that the tests prove pretty much nothing. I am having about 5 more periods a year than normal-- so about half the year. Great. Of course I now have to a dailytake high-ish dose iron supplements. I believe I have peri or pre-menopause which literally NO ONE talks about, yet it affects HALF of the population. And pre or peri-menopause is WORSE than menopause. Menopause is easy street, so I have learned. Some days I am nice and patient, other days I want to bite your face off. Sometimes I am horny, sometimes I seem asexual. When my roommate/ex bf of like 12 years (No, we do not bang and maybe once a month I fall asleep in his room watching a movie), DARES to shut MY room's window or turn off MY fan, especially if I am sleeping and wake up hot, I am literally thinking:
''I could kill you, and if half the jurors were women 35+, it would be an excusable homicide.'' I am not a violent person at all, btw, in any way or sense. I am learning as I go along. Surprise, surprise, there is not a whole lot of research on it. Reddit's Menopause has been a Godsend.
In the one racist area I lived in, I was ''jumped'' by 3 or 4 girls who basically PLAN attacked me, outta the blue. I won. All almost 5 feet of me. I learned about adrenaline and JFC, I get strong and mean if I think I am gonna die. I kicked dirt into their eyes and kicked their throats. How fucked up is that? I was maybe 11 years old. I did not and do not know how to fight. Is is something instinctual? I have no idea and too many research topics as it is. All I knew was that there were three of them, one of me, and they were larger and taller than I was.
Anyway, off to shower and go to my classes. Idk if I will cam after the theatre or not.
And you would not believe what I found when I took out the garbage, shortly after writing this (within the hour). It is not a popular name here, afaik. I will post it on Twitter @DarlingKara.

Feds providing nearly $100M to help refugees seeking shelter in Toronto
The federal government will be providing an additional $210 million to fund interim housing for asylum seekers, and about half of that money will be heading to Toronto, where dozens of refugees forced to camp out on the sidewalk outside a shelter are being shuttled to a church in North York.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser made the announcement on Tuesday morning, saying that $97 million has been earmarked to help Toronto refugees who are not being supported under federal programs.
“This will put us in a position where the City of Toronto will not have any concerns about the federal share of costs to ensure that they can provide housing to them, should they choose to re-extend access to the shelter system in Toronto to asylum seekers who up until recently have been denied that access.”

The announcement comes as a group of about 30 or so people are being sent to a church after spending weeks sleeping outside of a shelter intake centre on Peter Street after they were told to instead seek help from federal programs. The city argued its shelter system is already too full and can’t accommodate the increased demand.
At the time, advocates accused the city of denying shelter to refugees and sending them on a “cruel wild-goose chase” by telling them to call Service Canada for aide.
Toronto staff have said they require at least $100 million more in federal funding to keep up with the increase of refugees. The city claims that in May there were 2,900 refugee claimants in Toronto’s shelter system compared to the 537 claimants in September 2021.
The announcement by Fraser appears to be a direct response to this request, weeks after asylum seekers were caught in the middle of a funding argument between all three levels of government.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford sidestepped a question Tuesday morning about additional provincial funding to help support the influx of refugees coming into the province.
At an unrelated news conference, he told reporters he has spoken to refugees in his riding and what they really want are jobs.
“They're all healthy, they all want to work, so the feds have to speed up the working permits,” he said. “Each of these people sitting around for -- what is it -- literally four months, four or five more months, that's unacceptable.”
“All they want is a better life.”
He said the federal government needs to provide the City of Toronto with additional funding to the tune of $150 million.
“I'm going to be all over the federal government to make sure that we get these people back on their feet. You can’t just drop people and say okay, we’re all done. It doesn’t work that way.”
Meanwhile, Spadina-Fort York Member of Parliament Kevin Vuong, whose riding includes the shelter intake centre, said the city could have put together temporary solutions rather than rely on federal funding.
“One of which was asking the federal government to open up the armory, as has been requested in the past to get the homeless out of the cold in the winter,” he told Newstalk 1010’s Moore in the Morning Tuesday.
“They need to come together and find a sustainable long-term solution to the funding issue, not just for Toronto, but there are over 4,400 asylum seekers in hotels in Niagara and Windsor, Ottawa, Cornwall, Mississauga and Kingston.”
In the meantime, organizations and members of the business community have pitched in to relocate the refugees to Revivaltime Tabernacle on Dufferin Street, where they will be given mental health supports and accommodations.

The Rise of Smart Construction: Innovations and Challenges in Building Automation
The construction industry is in desperate need of a digital revolution, as it continues to struggle to meet the demand for new buildings. With over 8.5 million homes in the UK currently unoccupied, it's clear that the supply of new build housing needs to increase dramatically.
There are a number of key challenges facing the construction industry that need to be addressed, including safety issues, labour shortages and project management. However, many construction companies are turning to digital technologies to help them overcome these problems and improve productivity.
Tumblr media
Smart construction solutions can enable companies to revolutionise their back-end administration, asset management, workflow and innovation capabilities. These innovations have the potential to significantly reduce costs, increase safety and optimize resources.
For example, intelligent construction technologies can monitor the status of construction technology website sites in real-time and provide a constant stream of data to project managers and engineers. This allows them to make decisions that will benefit the site and its stakeholders in a more informed way.
Additionally, smart construction can help reduce the risk of job site injuries and accidents by providing a safe working environment for workers. This is achieved through the use of sensors, which can alert the team to any dangerous conditions on a project site.
In addition, smart construction can also help prevent theft of expensive equipment and assets by giving teams total visibility across their entire network. This includes the ability to set geofences and alert them immediately if any expensive equipment is stolen.
It can also be used to track the movements of workers and equipment on the site, helping to ensure that they are doing their jobs correctly. It can even be used to help identify where in the field a worker may be struggling, and to give them immediate support.
The use of smart construction can also help to upskill workers and develop their skill sets. By using a variety of digital tools, it's possible to train workers in a variety of areas, such as project management, safety, and more.
This can help to boost What is ChatGPT? employee retention and promote long-term growth in the company. It can also help to encourage a sense of pride and achievement among the workforce, fostering motivation.
Finally, smart construction can also be used to create more sustainable projects. This is because it helps to make better use of the energy used in buildings, saving on energy costs and reducing the impact on the environment as a whole.
As a result, the smart construction industry can be considered as a major player in the future of the global economy. It has the potential to transform the lives of millions of people around the world, while also boosting the reputation of the industry itself and helping it to continue to grow.
The global market for intelligent building technologies is expected to expand at a CAGR of % during the period 2021-2027, according to the research report. This growth is primarily driven by increasing government scrutiny of the CRE sector and the increased need for energy-saving buildings procedures.

Public-service strike: Union 'fed up with the pace of talks, asks Trudeau for help
The head of the Public Service Alliance of Canada held a news conference to blast Treasury Board to a revised contract offer and called on the prime minister to help hasten the pace of contract talks.
But the office of Treasury Board President Mona Fortier fired back an hour later, saying efforts to meet with the union went unanswered on a Saturday afternoon meeting was canceled nine minutes after being arranged.
The president, Chris Aylward, said he was still responding to new proposals tabled on Thursday evening office acknowledged the new offer but challenged the timeline.
It said the union was “unreachable at the common issues table” all day on Friday out again through a mediator on Saturday with plans to put forward a revised offer at 1 p.m. but accused the union of thwarting those plans.
“The union took three hours to respond to the request, initially accepting the meeting at 12:31pm and then at 12:40pm advised they were no longer available at that time,” the read our negotiators and our offer waited, Mr. Aylward chose instead to go on television to complain he had not received it.”
For his part, Aylward focused most of his criticisms on Fortier during update screams of the incompetence of Mona Fortier and her team,” Aylward told reporters outside an Ottawa hotel prime minister has done nothing to move these negotiations along members are fed up.”
Fortier's office also accused the union of inflexibility, a trait it said was evident in the offer, but noted both sides returned to the table after the news conference.
Aylward said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should take a role in the negotiations and exert his influence to ensure the talks progress more quickly.
Trudeau said last week the government believes in collective bargaining, adding there have been advances at the bargaining table that acknowledged the importance of supporting those working in the public service, given the rising cost of inflation.
100,000 union members walked off the job Wednesday as contract talks broke down after months of offered encouragement to union members on the picket lines.
