PUMPKIN PATCH

It took Sam a few days to get used to the idea to go on a run with Eileen.

The first time they met in the middle, Eileen met him on a crossroad with a big smile, her hair wild and her cheeks red from running.

The second time she sprinted next to him, thumbs up before she ran ahead.

And then she just asked him at dinner when in the early morning hours he takes hin run and invited herself.

And so they run together. Over crossroads, into the fields, through the woods. He was glad she wasn't able to hear his huffs, for her short legs, Eileen was FAST.

And then near Halloween, after Jack was gone and the Bunker was now a prison, because demons and gouhls and everything evil crawled up it's walls, they took their final run along a pumpkin patch. The endless orange a nice sight in the gloomy autumn morning.

Eileen stopped abruptly, Sam nearly toppled over her and caught her mid fall.

They didn't seperate, he still held her, their chests heaving.

"We have to lock down the Bunker, or else we're gonna die." she said, not looking at him but searched for his hand and as she found it gripped it tight.

He just nodded, made sure she felt it beside her face. Sam had talked about with Rowena the last days, it was just a question of time when the gates were closed that everything would change.

They stayed a bit longer, at the Pumpkin Patch. Until their breath slowed down and the morning sun came up.

They walked back to the Bunker and when Sam closed the door behind them, she took his hand. They would go through this, together.

As you turn yourself into a crow then you morph into human form then you head to gym and your fencing partner is renata the bully against a bigger bully that just transferd minerva

Sink you girls can keep up?!

And you cut Minerva in the lip! Then u back flip off the wall and all to kick her down and then she back flips to then trip you over with her leg!

Oh clumsy much?!

Minerva remarks. Next after gym you hit the lockers and then one look from Renata and she says sorry new blood around that girl everyone is doomed to losing

Pluma:??? So is this you being nice?! Or wot?!

Then zat was a good show da?! As she speaks

And yes I'm german/Russian but next time we meet u gouhls won't be to lucky

Then BONK! VUAHT WAS ZAT? TINY WORM?!

Then you say nothing as she pores shampoo and baby pouder on your head!

Zere we go all clean as she laughs just then Renata looks at you as your crying and everyone else is either in shock or are hestaricaly laughing.

BLOODY SHUT UP ALL OF YOU GO ON THEN GET LOST THE LOT OF YOU!

Then she gets you cleand up and your other new friends in your dorm all get you washed dried and ask if your ok.

Renata: I'm sorry love I was naturally aggressive with you back there

So I've noticed the gash marks on you dear tell me about it?

Pluma:Um kleetus did that 2 nights before I even came here.

U said he was washed up?! Technically he was fired for over drinking and selling cheaply prepared cars

And then he gets violently argumentative with my mum.

Renata:oh I'm so sorry I had no idea well new blood I mean pluma here you go I'll braid your hair once in the bedroom

Next thing you know you see a nother boy in the hall. Then he gently vanishes just to see you up close

Gasp! Then he catches you as your about to faint

then Renata and you take a picture of each other then you go out for recess

And you see them all with there powers and stuff then chopper agian walks up to u make any friends yet?

As he sits on a stone bench next to you you look to him then slick walks over to you and says

As your real quiet the other kids see you and then you look to chopper and you teleport yourself to a near by tree to be alone.

Then they all look to each other and the one being u never thought you'd meet with is half lassat and half human hanging from the top of the tree your in

Oy! Well now this is ironic don't we think?! As the young teen taunts you oh but I'm not here to tease you I just sit here to enjoy the birds

Then grem spears before you along side chopper then he says

Chopper:boys can we get a few?!

You want to know more don't you?!

Pluma:Yes. Well mum hasn't been contacting me at all and I can't even carry a thought of kleetus being the one to have brought me to life...

Then a deep Sigh from chopper... Hun you know I'm bisexual right?! And trans?

I need to talk about that Fallout TV show on prime. Can we talk about that Fallout TV show on prime? I mean Jesus Christ. I NEVER HAD A PIECE OF MOTION PICTURE GIVE ME GOOSEBUMPS. It's perfect, I don't even care if people think it deviates. The first two episodes have me.... I don't know the words. I understand fandom now.

The Gouhls is badass, the Paladin is inspiring, the vault dweller is charismatic, but seeing a real world of Fallout with its old world charm and the music... Man. I can ramble on. This is true passion and admiration for a TV show. This is a new feeling to me.

Evaluate a Library's Comics Collection

Choose a library and a specific subsection of the comics collection to assess.

Spend 20 minutes examining the physical collection and 5-10 minutes examining the catalog entries.

Create a report that includes a brief evaluative description of the collection's scope, currency, diversity, and indicators of use.

Consider the following factors: location, organization, signage, and displays.

The Library:

The Harvard Diggins Library (HDL) houses two graphic novel collections; one for junior readers and another in the teen space. There is not an adult graphic novel section. So, I took a shallow dive into the collection in the YA department, hoping to find some superhero comics!

The Comic Collection @ HDL:

Graphic novels, manga, and comics were all shelved together in the teen space using an A-Z organization style by author name. Apart from the signage at the top of the display and the 4 outfaced books, there was no further marketing for the comics collection or an implication anywhere else in the library pointing to the comics collection. The shelving pictured on the right of the display is not a continuation of the collection but the YA nonfiction display.

Oh, superheroes? Where did y'all go?!

The first item on the shelf was Thor: The Goddess of Thunder by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman. The call number for this title was listed as YA FIC AAR. Found one!

However, this can be problematic, especially for teen readers, for individuals who may not be familiar with the authors of their favorite comics but rather the characters and franchise.

Now off to find more superheroes!

Scope:

The collection is small; however, the scope of a library collection needs to reflect who it is serving. That said, the HDLs comics collection is representative of the smaller teen population in Harvard, IL (Total Population: 9,477). Additionally, HDL subscribes to Libby (OverDrive), which creates a virtual access point to a larger professionally curated digital collection that expands HDLs comics collection exponentially.

The collection mainly consisted of Manga, with popular graphic novel titles and barely any superhero comics.

After a brief catalog search, I discovered that HDL only owned 11 superhero comics.

Currency:

The comics collection at HDL noticeably made an effort to include current popular media within their collection efforts. The intended reader would immediately notice and gravitate to several of the manga available from hit anime shows. Some examples include Attack on Titan, Tokyo Gouhl, and Naruto; however, it is essential to note that these titles are older and act as a visible anchor to HDLs collection. Some examples of superhero comics on the shelves were Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013-2016), Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon (2013), and Marvel's Civil War (2006-7).

Diversity:

This was an area of opportunity for the comic collection. This collection focuses on hit anime shows to attract readers and passersby. While manga includes all genres as an art form and literary medium, the physical presence of these manga series is particularly powerful and takes away from the other titles on the shelf. When I think of diversity in relation to a library collection, Professor Rudine Sims Bishop's words about windows, mirrors, and doors come to mind, and from that context, this collection could be more inclusive of the lives of others. Ms. Marvel was a gem in the collection and on loan at the time of my investigation.

Usage:

Some of the more popular titles were worn and tattered. For example, this copy of The Walking Dead has seen some wear and tear that is common for paperback circulation in public and school libraries. The paperbacks in the collection did not have any additional life-preserving covering added, such as hard laminate. The majority of the manga collection was intact and had minimal signs of damage. The concern here was whether or not the resources were seeing any movement in circulation.

Overall, HDL represents popular media and teen inclusivity well, but there is room for improvement regarding shelving and location for their comics collection.

One way to improve the comics section would be to move it to a more prominent location in the library. The comics section is located in a small corner of the library in the teen space, which makes it easy to miss. Moving the comics section to a more central location would make it more visible to library patrons and encourage more people to check out comics.

Currently, the comics are organized by author (A-Z), which can make it difficult for patrons to find specific titles. Reorganizing the shelves by genre, theme, or publishing house would make it easier for patrons to find the comics they are looking for.

Despite these minor criticisms, the comics section of this public library is a valuable resource for library patrons of all ages in the community. The library does an ok job of selecting a variety of titles.

Recommendations:

Add more graphic novels to the collection. Graphic novels are a great way to introduce people to comics who may not have read them before.

Offer more programming related to comics. This could include author visits, workshops, or discussion groups.

Partner with local comic book stores. This could help the library to get more new comics into its collection and to reach a wider audience.

I think this one is going to be the one where Frank finds out his apartment has a toilet, I bet Charlie doesn't go in there and put furniture in front of the door because it's haunted by gouhls or something, (that boy always has his reasons for the things he does,) and he's right, and the gang gets cursed when Frank starts using the toilet and lets all the gouhls out.
