Hi byghost I made a post about trying to make some gravebird/Daminika fanfics but I don't have any good writing ideas, and someone said to ask you for some, so if you have some that would be great.
Hi there! Here are some ideas I have now, these are for inspiration so you can be more creative and flexible with them. Just credit me if you do use some of the major concepts (especially AUs)! ^ ^b
Canon diverse (divergence from comic)
Different ways of getting into detention in Gotham High— Damian's bullies gang up on them in the cafeteria (making fun of their looks, accents, or something). Nika gets into a fight with them and Damian advocates for her immediately (join the fight too).
— Or they didn't make a scene at the cafeteria, they bait the bullies into the fight at other places.
Sort of girlfriend and boyfriend (Nika makes a friend)— Erica sat down at their table and asked Nika questions. Where's she from? Is she an albino? What's her relationship with Damian? Is Damian asking her to be here? Is she a transfer student? (Damian wants/attempts to shield Nika from Erica's questions but Nika is quite amusing to answer her). Nika's answers are vague (she teases Damian when Erica asks about their relationship), and leave Erica pretty confused.
Spare days— Nika goes to Gotham High undercover with Damian through the first few days (how Damian's school days look like, Nika meeting more teachers and students, Damian making excuses for Nika) before confronting Principal Stone (Hypothesis they already resolved Shush and Manbat's situation, Bruce is saved and Ms.Hall tolerate them).
(The above ideas can be separated fics or combined in one fic)
"They are oomf on Chirper, but irl neither of them knows"— The timeline is flexible for this one.
In general (just in some scenarios)
They on a date at Damian's favorite places/restaurants, and they doodle on Damian's spare sketchbook while catching up.
Nika found out about Damian's sketches of Vane and Noir.
Go on a date (anywhere, your pick).
Damian introduced his pets to Nika.
Damian slowly introduced Nika to Talia/ Bat family members.
AU
Art club romance (shojo manga silly style, loosely inspired by Princess Knight)— Parallel to Damian's manga (Hana and Ren). Damian, the youngest son of the Wayene family (Robin and heirs of the League of Assassins). Nika, fostered child of Lord Death Man (the infamous Yakuza leader within the area).
Nika is sent by Lord Death Man to Damian's school to undercover/spy on Damian, so she can hold down Robin while Lord Death Man confronts his greatest nemesis- Batman. As Nika joins the art club and is friends with Damian, she can't help to betray her mission and fall in love with him (she keeps letting Robin get away when they fight in the field, and he does the same for her).
I'm very much attached to this one AU cuz I still have some WIPs (plans out panels and little dialogues)for it, and some of them are out of context. You can ask me for more details about this AU if you are interested (ngl I'm kinda hesitant to give out this AU but I think ppl still can do their own spin on this concept).
Idol— [established relationship] Damian as Nika's bf (secret relationship) and showing support at all her concerts. At the last concert on tour, Nika brought him onto the stage and public their relationship.
—[slow burn] Shadow by her sister Mila's successful idol career, Nika had a big fight with Mila and fell out with her family (her grandpa died and she gained powers yada yada). Without her family's support, Nika ran away and sought out Lord Death Man for guidance and became his undefined foster child. Backing by LDM's crime empire money, Nika is sent to the same public high school that Damian goes to and spies on Robin (similar to the art club au plot here but without falling in love first).
They soon become friends in the art club and do projects together, and after learning about Nika's dream of becoming an independent idol, Damian decides to help her in whatever he can, whether it is songwriting or stage outfit designs (he tries to resources/consult his family's talent to help Nika). Nika is supportive of Damian's dream of publishing his detective mystery comic/novel. They are each other's biggest fans (they are pinning).
(They finally fall in love after accomplishing Nika's first small concert successfully)
Damian and Nika who crushed on who first or who fell in love harder in the story is your choice, I don’t make the rules.
Thanks for the question and reading, I don't know if any of these ideas are helpful but have a great day, and good luck with writing!!♥️✨

‘Batman: Child of Dreams’ 20th Anniversary - Japanese manga artist Michitaka Kikuch, well known by his pen name Kia Asamiya, was inspired by their own DC fandom, in particular Batman, to bring back the form of the Batman manga in the early 2000s. Translated into English by Max Allan Collins to two volumes in 2003, "Batman: Child of Dreams" was originally published between 2000 and 2001 in Kodansha's Magazine Z and published by DC comics with a cover date of February 2003.
Written and illustrated by Asamiya in the manga style of reading right to left, when translated into English, it was reverted left to right, making some of the storyline and character representation backwards. Nevertheless, presented is a tale with the Dark Knight grappling the night skies of Gotham City and Tokyo on the hunt for a new dangerous drug on the streets. Once taken, the user can transform into the figure they desire, one that will make all their dreams come true for one full day. Yet once the 24 hour effect is over, the user dies.
The Caped Crusader becomes desperate to discover the source of this poison when many Gothamites transform into infamous rogues in his villain gallery. Once seeing this problem goes beyond dealing with the common crook or the usual costumes criminal, the Batman follows the trail to the bright and busy streets of Tokyo and along with the help of journalist Yuuko Yago discovers the creator is someone who admires our hero to a deadly end.

I’ve spent months ignoring the existence of batman: white knight for my own sanity and for that of my followers and yet the universe has conspired against me.
And so, I’ve been forced to acknowledge that it does in fact exist and sold relatively well and now I keep remembering even MORE details about it that made it a bad bad bad comic in spite of its decent aesthetic.
So this is me working out some personal frustration.
Through an analysis that involves very little actual plot arc by plot arc or panel by panel analysis because by Hera who, WHO? Has the energy or the emotional wherewithal to put that much effort into a post about this comic. I mean maybe if it was the only way to fully exorcise the bad content but I’ve managed to not let it hook too deeply to my poor soul yet so just this should be fine. Right? right.
So because of that this is mostly just some of my personal feelings on it.
It is a rant that no one should read and was made with the only purpose being personal catharsis of negative emotions.
I send this forth, into the abyss.
In the hopes that I won’t have to think about this comic ever again once it is done.
It’s like a never ending onion, the more I think about it the more LAYERS of mistakes and horrible characterisation are revealed. Layers and layers of just slightly off and annoying things that really feed into deeper misconceptions about what the heroes and villains in Gotham really stand for and how they interact with each other so it turns out that actually even the little annoying things are just contributing to the BIG narrative problems that this comic has. I LITERALLY KEEP COMING UP WITH REASONS WHY IT’S THE WORST. I CAN’T STOP. HELP ME.
What’s worse is I can tell that the writer was definitely trying to do something cool and psuedo deep and say something (no clue what it was) about heroes and villains and the joker as a character, like really explore it, he just did in the worst possible way. Holding up a mirror to Gotham and reversing things so that the Joker’s Heroic and Batman’s Criminal in their approaches isn’t a particularly new or original idea but the writer really went for it or seemed to be trying to which is why I tried it in the first place. BUT NO. It’s bad, it’s full of bad takes. This writer has bad Batman opinions and it shows.
IT’S A MULTI-FACETED MONSTER, THERE ARE MULTIPLE FACETS TO THE BAD WRITING.
I don’t want to get into the nitty gritty but symbolically and spiritually it’s the anti-thesis of a good batman comic, it tries to be hard boiled and shocking but mostly it just heaps on bad things, it tries to do dark knight level cynicism but just misses the point entirely even as it assures you that people just aren’t ready to face the truth about how things are and it’s never clear on what that truth is.
The cynicism is kind of like the injustice comic but it’s not balanced out by the fact that at least some of the characters are genuinely good people and will continue to be no matter how bad things get. It’s not balanced at all.
It’s like how with the Suicide Squad movie the trailers promised supervillain breakfast club but then in the movie didn’t really provide a strong emotionally resonant reason for the characters to band together, besides ‘just coz’. It sold itself as misfits finally finding a place to belong when it was just: cool looking lady tries to control a pack of supervillains while swindling the money for tax money and everything that can go wrong does go wrong. But at least suicide squad had aspects that WERE entertaining, like the character designs and the comedy and the hints of deeper character motivations that were never really followed up on.
Batman: White Knight on the other hand is just a slog of a batman comic that thinks it’s good when it isn’t. The only good point is the aesthetic and that gets old fast when combined with THESE characters.
Where Suicide Squad promised quirky well written found family dynamics. Batman: WK promises game changing character exploration and imbalances of power between the GCPD and The Batman when really? It’s just a re-hash of the worst of the pessimism DC’s more odious writers have worked into the Batman mythos over the years.
“Vigilantes being genuinely good people and not getting too big for their britches? That’s just not realistic.” I can hear the writer say. “We’ll do police brutality. But with Vigilantes!” I can hear him thinking, believing mistakenly that he has hit on a not boring idea.
WELL NEWS FLASH JERKFACE! BATMAN AND THE ENTIRE GENRE OF SUPERHERO COMICS ARE WISH FULFILMENT POWER FANTASIES YOU ABSOLUTE CRETIN.
The idea that batman can only make a difference because he’s a bad person who doesn’t hold himself accountable is so tired. The idea that regular good cops like Jim Gordon would have conflicting feelings about relying on Batman isn’t a bad topic to explore but the guy presents it way too one-sidedly, like is a regular police department supposed to be able to deal with Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze level meta humans just on their regular budget? No. So it makes sense for other supers to step in to fill that gap. (See: post singularity superhero stories like the BNHA manga) Which is why we have regulation debate style stories like marvel’s Civil War but the REASON dc doesn’t do that is that they made the very much conscious choice to keep one foot of their fictional world firmly in the fantastical whereas marvel has more of a real world slant. This writer missed that memo and what he came up with for his real world-ish batman critique was not good.
It’s like those people who don’t think Robin is a realistic character and so go too far down the child soldier route, which of course automatically makes Batman read worse as a person and I’m like it’s a wish fulfillment fantasy because kids want to have agency and help people. How do you not get this comic writer man? I just... if you don’t get Robin then why are you writing Batman and Robin at all. Seriously this story is just....
IT’S LIKE A STINK BOMB MADE ALL THE STINKIER BY THE UNIQUE COMBINATIONS OF THE TERRIBLE SCENTS AS WELL AS THE INDIVIDUAL BAD THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN PUT IN.
And look none of this is me saying that hero deconstruction stories can’t be good and interesting or that DC can’t do them but this is not a good deconstruction story, it is not well made nor is it well executed. It is a steaming mess. But fucking hell is it groundlessly confident in itself despite this basic fact.
#batman: white knight#batman#white knight#sean murphy is going on the list#discourse#comic book meta#anti batman: white knight#this is me just hurling abuse at an elseworld for a half hour#but i'm still valid#i curse this comic from the cockles of where i kept my cold dead hopes for good content

All The Reviews!!!!
Well, because my internet is being a butt on uploading my usual covers at the opener, I will do some quickie thoughts on my comics here.
Sword Master - Its got two stories here, just like Aero before it (forgot to write on that, but it was good. Art was real cool in story one.) First story is very....slow. Story and art are manga styled, with it packing a lot of cliche. Honestly, the pacing of this first chapter would be more fitting for the first chapter of a manga. The issue here is that the amount of pages given to a manga’s first chapter is 60 to the 19 pages given to this first story, meaning you just get left with a lot of possibility but no real sense of direction. Second story is Sword Master and Shang-Chi interacting, which is....fine. Its more normal comic art for this one, if a little boring in facial expression. Overall, its fine but it wont exactly be rocking the world with its art or its story.
Justice League Dark - We get three stories, but all under the same art team. First is showing the deal with Doctor Fate after he attempted to kill magic, showing his origin and beginning discussion of who may take the mantle in order to prevent Kent from being forced into the role. Second is a discussion between Constantine and Zatanna, which drives at John basically having a set path to this defense against darkness and John's less than great history with magic before he got put on this path. And finally, we get to see the The Offer as it was given to Circe, a promise from Lex Luthor to gather a magic Legion of Doom to combat the magic Justice League. There is a lot to unpack here and it opens up a lot of new routes for the magic of the DC Universe to continue being crazy, dark, and tense like it has been for the last 12 issues.
Amazing Spider-Man - We're finally discussing what exactly Boomerang did to drive Kingpin so mad and make the crime boss want to kill him. Also get another hint towards the reach Kindred has since Kingpin's goons are EXPLICITLY not allowed to even have a minor risk of injuring Peter. And finally, we get to see that Boomerang's criminal past comes back to haunt him as the all-female Syndicate aim to take revenge on him screwing them all over at one point or another. Kev Walker’s art doesn’t draw me into the story like I felt with Ryan Ottley and Humberto Ramos but it does facial expressions really well and that is key with this very story and fun-focused issue.
Tony Stark: Iron Man - Tony decides he can 'be sober' the same way he was 'drunk' in the eScape storyline, by abusing tech. After erasing his memory and putting that memory into a drive to keep on hand, it is quickly stolen by Spymaster, who uses the memories to rig Tony's armors and tech to attack him and Captain Marvel, the woman who inspired this memory erasure plan due to Tony being her AA sponsor. Its fun, does a lot to point towards the humanity of Tony, and also drops a lot of hints towards Arno and Baintronics becoming the new villainous threat in the comics as they offer to help upgrade Jocasta into a more biological form. Valerio Schiti is continuing to rock the action artbut his skill really shows in the scenes with Arno that occur to break up the fight, telling a story purely through Arno’s expressions extremely well.
Batman: Curse of the White Knight - Joker turns to the ancient history of Gotham in order to tear down everything Batman and Jack Napier created by helping to create the White Knight universe version of Azrael while Batman continues to deal with the fallout from the events Jack Napier instigated. Its great as hell and I want everyone to read it. I can’t say any more than that because its just so great to see Batman doing this self-examination, seeing this deeper look towards the Wayne family that reminds me of the Telltale Batman games and I want more right now dangit.
Finally
House of X -Jonathan Hickman's effort to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-relaunch the X-Men. And it offers up a good first step, showing us Professor X in a younger body as he prepares to lead a new stage in life for mutants. First, they use a plant-mutant-thingie named Krakoa to create mutant habitats and overtake an island in order to create their own nation, with them also creating drugs and other things in order to help the world adapt to their presence. This idea of a mutant nation is taken to the point of making their own language, Krakoan, and the entire presentation being delivered to ambassadors of many nations. With the presentation ending as Magneto declares from a Krakoa Habitat in Jerusalem that humans 'have new gods now'. And naturally, there is a response to this mutant uprising as out in space, a station called The Forge is hard at work creating a cosmic-scale Sentinel.
Honestly, this was one I did not expect to like as much as I did. The presentation is grand and sweeping since it's meant to be a presentation to a group of ambassadors to appeal for nationhood. There are pages between each little show of whats going on to describe things like what these Krakoa flowers can do, a map of Krakoa, and even an official list and definition of what the hell an Omega-level Mutant is.

What I DC comics needs to do
Hi guys I hope your all doing well, any way ever since I could remember. I have always enjoyed DC comics and some the movies but that was because my most of my family are huge DC fans. So I guess you can say my opinion on DC comics will be a bit biased, though I also enjoy Marvel comics mostly for the X-men.
I’ll start with the problems that I have been noticing lately with the comics. Now I noticed as of lately in DC comics is that the story arks are getting to long, and it really doesn't help that most of the stories are getting more “tragic” and really I don’t like how the writers made most these story arks. I read at bit of Heros in Crisis and really the only thing I enjoyed about the comic was the art. That was really it the story was just bad to say the lest. Now I don’t mind having our hero having some problems for example have Booster Gold being greedy, and selfish along with having trouble adapting 21 century not having him being a big cry baby. My point is that characters are acting as the themselves, I don’t really mind dark stories if done well like Batman White Knight and the Injustice comics.
The reason why believe these two else world stories did so well what I think is because the writers knew what they wanted their world and story to be. And art style was very consistent with the story and it was good art too. Though Batman White Knight’s art is more fitting for well Batman it’s but knows when to be bright as well. I say this because I have read the new 52 rebirth of the Birds of Pray, now I love the Birds of Pray and was happy to find the comic. But I saw the art and I just hated it for the first time I a nonprofessional artiest thought and knew that I can do better then this. Now please keep in mind that I still have long way to go in terms of my art. Now If you make comic book, manga or design for video games and animation. You have to put thought, and effort into your art work and designs these things because well lets face it no one wants to look at crappy art and will drive away anyone that wants to buy or let alone look at comic that looks bad. It also didn’t help that story of said comic also having a bad story, which is why I didn’t even buy the Birds of Pray comic it was just bad. I think that in order to fix this problem is clearly to heir people that WANT to make comics and know how to handle these characters.
Also I’d really would love to see more light heated and fun stories in comics, now I don’t mind dark stories in fact they can work so long as we get to much of them. The thing is that if we get too much horror or tragedy the characters will just look like a bunch of morons that are crying way much. And as it is said the true tragedy is a comedy and the true comedy is a tragedy. The point that I am charging to make here is that there should be a balance for example Batman White Knight and Injustice though the stories do get dark very dark, but the writers knew when to funny, and light hearted. Because they know that should be a balance and that readers would get tried of seeing the characters being miserable. And of course action scenes I read little bit of the new Catwoman comics, now the action scenes in this are pretty good along with the new Batgirl comics. Now I’d have to admit I miss the old Catwoman comics where she goes on these great heists, and hangout with some off the other Batman rogues like Killer Croc or Harley. We see what rogues see and what they do when their not fighting Batman. That’s what I miss now a days Catwoman cries about how and why she leafted Bruce I don’t want to see that and crying out loud I want her back in Gotham it’s where she belongs. Though I do love the art in comic but again didn’t buy Catwoman because well I want her Gotham and not have her cry most the time, but her being boss and some scenes with her hanging out with some of the rogues and the Bat family too.
Now not many people know about this but for those who want to work in comics/ manga you have to get along with your editor. And your editor has know how to do their job which is point out what writers and artiest need to do in you project. And point out your mistakes along with what story and art needs more of and less of. Take Akira Toriyama for example if weren’t for his editor stepping in the Cell ark wouldn’t have a had Cell as the ark’s main villain but we would had and old man and fat clown. The point I am charging to make here is when your working in team it’s best to have a good relationship with your team. And yes this is also for animation as well. And it’s good to have some level criticism because we all need to what to improve on and it’s good to get another opinion. So long as their not being a jerk about it, of course. Any way thank you to those who read this far, and I really wanted to get this out of my chest.
If anyone has read this post, please if anyone rebolgs this I’d like to know what your opinion is this topic. I really would like to know what some of you guys think of this topic.

New Post has been published on Otaku Dome | The Latest News In Anime, Manga, Gaming, Tech, and Geek Culture
New Post has been published on https://otakudome.com/dc-comics-details-several-upcoming-titles/
DC Comics Details Several Upcoming Titles
DC Comics has detailed several upcoming titles for the year:
On June 29, join DC in celebrating eight decades of emerald-clad swashbuckling, crime-fighting, and trick arrows of every kind when the Green Arrow 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1! Honoring Green Arrow and his allies across his 80-year history, from the Golden Age to now, the anniversary special includes 12 stories from some of DC’s most esteemed writers and artists who have contributed to the legacy of Oliver Queen. The title will also include 8-decade variant covers depicting the Emerald Archer through the ages.
This anthology not only features a “who’s – who” of comic book storytellers but also includes a unique and heartfelt tribute to the career of iconic DC and Green Arrow scribe Denny O’Neil. “Tap, Tap, Tap” is a silent, wordless story from Denny O’Neil’s son Larry, Jorge Fornes (Rorschach), and Dave Stewart (Superman). The story chronicles the challenges and victories in Denny’s life both in and out of comics, from his childhood, raising a family, his stellar career as a writer, until his passing in 2020
Additional stories in this anthology include:
“The Disappearing Bandit” Written by Mariko Tamaki, Art by Javier Rodriguez It’s the Golden Age of Green Arrow and Speedy, brought to humorous and loving life by New York Times bestselling writer Mariko Tamaki (Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass) and acclaimed artist Javier Rodriguez (Batgirl: Year One). A lot of people attempt to affectionately show the silliness of the first age of super heroes, but few have done it as exceptionally as Mariko and Javier. Trick arrows for everyone!
“Punching Evil” Written by Tom Taylor, Art by Nicola Scott, Colors by Annette Kwok To become a more adept superhero and fighter, Green Arrow goes to train with the Golden Age superhero Wildcat at his gym. In true Wildcat fashion, he shows Ollie the hard way of what it takes to be your own hero. Tom Taylor (Nightwing, Suicide Squad, Injustice) brings this story to life, with incredible artwork from Nicola Scott (Wonder Woman 75th Anniversary Special) and Annette Kwok (Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity).
“Who Watches the Watchtower?” Written by Stephanie Phillips, Art by Chris Mooneyham, Colors by Mike Spicer The Green Arrow is left behind on the Justice League Satellite while the rest of the team goes on an important mission. Oliver is less than thrilled, and righteously indignant about the situation as usual until an alien armada invades the Satellite. Can Ollie stand alone against an alien onslaught before it reaches earth? Acclaimed writer Stephanie Phillips (Harley Quinn) captures that “Denny O’Neil Green Arrow”-voice, and this story is brought to life in gorgeous fashion by Christopher Mooneyham’s (Nightwing) retro/modern bronze age aesthetic.
“Out of the Shadows” Written and Art by Mike Grell, Colors by Lovern Kindzerski Legendary Green Arrow writer and artist Mike Grell return to the 1980’s era of The Longbow Hunters. The Green Arrow must team up with the legendary anti-hero Shado to stop a shipment of smuggled guns from making it into Seattle. Depicting The Emerald Archer as only he can, Grell will remind readers why his take on Ollie Queen is still a Green standard.
“The Arrow and the Song” Written by Ram V, Art by Christopher Mitten, Colors by Ivan Plascencia This tale is a beautiful meditation on the love between Green Arrow and Black Canary through the years and the found family that they’ve created. Writer Ram V (Catwoman) puts together this beautiful story of love and how life takes turns you don’t expect. Gloriously brought to life by the work of Christopher Mitten (Batman: Arkham Unhinged) and Ivan Plascencia (The Flash).
“One” Written by Brandon Thomas, Art by Jorge Corona, Colors by Matheus Lopes We go right back to the mid-90s with this story. Oliver Queen is dead. Connor Hawke is Green Arrow and he has to save the main Queen Industries building in Star City, the home of a business and family he was never part of, from a group of terrorists. Brought to you by Infinite Frontier and Future State writer Brandon Thomas (Future State: Aquaman) and amazingly drawn by Jorge Corona (We Are Robin).
“Green Man and Autumn Son” Written by Devin Grayson, Art by Max Fiumara Catwoman writer Devin Grayson and artist Max Fiumara shine a spotlight on Roy Harper, a.k.a Red Arrow, as he continues to manage his transition from “sidekick” to adult hero, along with single parenthood and his struggles with addiction and recovery.
“Star City Star” Written and Art by Phil Hester, Inks by Ande Parks, Colors by Trish Mulvihill Phil Hester drew nearly fifty issues of Green Arrow in the early 2000s, working with popular writers like Kevin Smith, Brad Meltzer, and Judd Winnick. Here, Phil synthesizes what was so great about his run into a tremendous eight-page story. Green Arrow tries to save a young girl named Star who has been kidnapped but has to run through a gauntlet of his greatest villains and allies to get to her. Including: Onomatopoeia, Speedy (Mia Dearden), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Black Canary, Arsenal, Connor Hawke, and Count Vertigo.
“Happy Anniversary” Written by Vita Ayala, Art by Laura Braga, Colors by Adriano Lucas This story focuses on the point in time where Green Arrow and Black Canary were married right before the New 52. On the day of their anniversary, the two are at each other’s throats and then Green Arrow gets kidnapped. Black Canary thinks the kidnapping is part of an anniversary game/present but quickly discovers that Green Arrow has REALLY been kidnapped by DEATHSTROKE and she has to save him. Vita Ayala (Future State: The Next Batman) writes a wonderful Mr. and Mrs. Smith-style action rom-com brought to life by Laura Braga (DC Comics Bombshells).
“The Sympathy of the Woods” Written by Ben Percy, Art by Otto Schmidt It’s the DC Rebirth Era, Green Arrow is feeling lost, the world is getting worse, and he doesn’t feel like he’s making enough of a difference. To cheer him up, Black Canary, Red Arrow (Emiko Queen), Diggle, and Henry Fyffe try to throw him a party to remind him of the beautiful community he’s built. But what starts as a celebration will become a rescue mission as Green Arrow is hunted down by the Dark Archer known as MERLYN. From DC talents Ben Percy (Nightwing) and Otto Schmidt (Harley Quinn).
“The Last Green Arrow Story” Written by Jeff Lemire, Art by Andrea Sorrentino, Colors by Jordie Bellaire The acclaimed Green Arrow creative team from the New 52, New York Times Bestselling author Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth) and Andrea Sorrentino (Joker: Killer Smile) tell a transcendent final tale of Oliver Queen. In his older years, he requests to be left alone on the island where he was stranded so many decades ago. He’s gone there to connect to his own myth, his legacy, and to die in peace. But is it ever that simple for The Green Arrow?

The boys’ rivalry is instantaneous and fierce…and both are sure only one of them can be the best in their class.
Amaya, princess of House Amethyst in Gemworld, is something of a troublemaker. She and her brother have great fun together until a magical prank goes much too far and her parents ground her…to Earth! They hope a whole week in the mundane world will teach her that magic is a privilege…and maybe washing dishes by hand will help her realize the palace servants should be respected. Three years later, Amy has settled into middle school and ordinary life. She doesn’t remember any other life. So, when a prince of the realm brings her home and restores her magical destiny, how will she cope?

This fall, pick up a powerful account of one of DC’s youngest and brightest heroes, Jessica Cruz, as she fights to overcome her fears and protect her family.
Debuting in September 2021, Unearthed: A Jessica Cruz Story is a new young adult graphic novel from DC that provides a fresh retelling of Jessica Cruz’s origin story, that captures the experiences of many immigrant families today. Like the Green Lanterns who came before her, Jessica must fight for what she believes in, and develop her willpower, determination, courage and tenacity—hallmarks of every Green Lantern—while facing overwhelming odds as xenophobia takes root in her hometown, Coast City.
This poignant and heartfelt tale about the trials that immigrants face in America is crafted by Pura Belpré Honor-winning author Lilliam Rivera (Never Look Back) and rising illustrator Steph C. Their modern refresh of Jessica’s story shows the budding hero take on challenges that ordinary immigrant families face every day. As she struggles with a new reality in Coast City, Jessica must overcome her fear to become a beacon of hope for her community.
“I’ve always been fascinated by origin stories and I’m so glad I got to write one for Green Lantern’s Latinx superhero, Jessica Cruz. Unearthed is a story of an everyday high school teenager who strives to make her parents proud. It’s also a story about immigration and how Jessica navigates debilitating anxiety while trying to keep her family together,” said Rivera. “Mexican artist Steph C.’s illustrations not only beautifully capture this struggle; she’s created stunning otherworldly realms that will leave readers breathless. I can’t wait for fans to see a side of Jessica Cruz never before seen.”
Unearthed: A Jessica Cruz Story marks both Lilliam and Steph’s debut project with DC and is scheduled to hit stores and online retailers everywhere books are sold on September 14, 2021.
Below is the official synopsis:
Unearthed: A Jessica Cruz Story
Written by Lilliam Rivera
Illustrated by Steph C.
On sale everywhere books are sold September 14, 2021
MSRP: $16.99
Jessica Cruz has done everything right. She’s a dedicated student, popular among her classmates, and has a loving family that has done everything they can to give her a better life in the United States. While Jessica is a part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, allowing her to go to school and live in the U.S., her parents are undocumented. Jessica usually worries for her parents, but her fears and anxiety escalate as a mayoral candidate with a strong anti-immigration stance runs for office.
As the xenophobia in Coast City increases, Jessica begins to debate whether it’s worth renewing her status to stay in the U.S., or if her family would be safer and better off moving back to Mexico. And despite her attempts to lean on her friends and family, she finds herself constantly visited by visions of Aztec gods, one pulling her towards hope and the other towards anger.
But when her father is detained by I.C.E., Jessica finds herself being pulled into an abyss of fear. With her father gone and feeling helpless, Jessica must find her way out of her fears and ultimately become a voice for her community.

Love all your work Slytherin, and I'd like some headcanons from you. For Sasusaku, I want smut. For Jayrae, I want fluff. I am also curious to know your top five headcanons for both Sessrin and Hakyona.
Hello Gryffindor!
Oh the Head Canons I have! Okay, so for starters, I’ll start with your OTP:
Now, I don’t have many smutty head canons for, but here are the few that I do have and I hope you enjoy.
Sasuke & Sakura:
Sasuke, despite his quiet nature, has the dirtiest mouth ever and is able to have Sakura a writhing, pliable, heated puddle of Sakura goo.
Sakura knows Sasuke’s weakness for a working woman, and is not opposed to dressing in nothing but her lab coat, or her apron; leaving him drooling as she seduces him.
Sex for them is about emotions and connection, it is always about the connection, hot quickies or a drawn out love affair, it’s about the connection.
Sasuke loves having Sakura riding him, and taking her sweet time, he likes watching her pleasure.
Sakura is up for any position, but has a fondness for just being able to see Sasuke’s face; his eyes reveal all and she loves seeing everything from him.
Sex, is an important part of their relationship. Their connection is always heated and leaves them breathless. It’s a form of communication for them too.
Sasuke cooks, he will not risk food poisoning by trusting his wife with cooking.
Sakura does the cleaning so they’re even in chores.
Sarada was an accident baby, because both Sasuke and Sakura were going to wait to have children, and focus on fixing their world and careers.
Yes, they’ve had close calls with their daughter almost catching them in their heated moments, Sasuke usually tries to hide it, and Sakura likes the risk factors of almost being caught.
Oh, so many head canons for Jason and Raven, where to begin… I’ll keep it with my favorites.
Jason & Raven
There’s a solid friendship here, and they’re friends before lovers. Usually becoming lovers by accident, or curiosity.
Jason is the cook between them, and the domestic homebody of the two.
Raven usually starts talks about literature and these book chats can and do go on for hours.
A deep part of their friendship is their baseball rivalry; Raven’s Mets vs. Jason’s Knights. Yes, this is a serious rivalry and about the only rivalry between them that escalates to prank wars.
Raven is a closet snuggler, if in private and assured that there will be no one around she likes curling up on Jason’s lap for reading or sleeping.
Jason is a violent sleeper, rolling around, kicking sheets off, and nightmares, he likes using Raven’s empathy to sleep. Even as friends he will sleep in her room to use her empathy for real sleep.
Raven’s body temperature is lower than a normal human’s in the middle of summer Jason likes sharing her bed to stay cool, and in winter she likes snuggling with Jason because he’s a ‘human furnace’.
They’re tastes in music, food, and style is almost polar opposites, but they work on blending their lives together, dividing their time between New York for Raven’s school and Titans, and Gotham for Jason’s family and Red Hood cases.
Jason’s reluctance to be involved with his family is usually overridden by Raven’s deep friendships with his brothers and ends with him being dragged into family affairs. Adding in Raven’s family, adopted and blood, and Jason’s own family, it equals for an interesting Thanksgivings and Christmases.
Jason and Victor do have a tentative truce when Jason is dating Raven, and Jason does work hard at respect Victor’s rules (when Victor’s around).
Work team ups between them are professional, and impersonal, leaving their dating lives behind when they work.
Jason’s favorite movies are Wonder Woman and Deadpool, his favorite authors are Alexander Dumas, Mark Twaine, Jane Austin, Jack London and Louisa M. Alcott
Raven’s favorite movie is Sound of Music, her favorite authors are Virgin Woolf, Charles Dickens, John le Carré, Oscar Wilde, and Nora Roberts.
They are a couple that is built off a mutual respect, they are different enough to keep each other on their toes and have enough similarities to relax around one another comfortably.
Honestly, because I prefer the canon verse for this pair I have many ideas about the dynamics of this relationship and how it bloomed. But most of the dynamics between Sesshomaru and Rin are in their different status and Rin’s fleeting life span in comparison to Sesshomaru’s. But I won’t give you my sad head canons for this pair, as they can be very depressing.
Sesshomaru & Rin
Sesshomaru is possessive. If it’s his, it’s his, if he thinks it’s his, it’s his, and if someone should think it’s theirs, and it’s his, it’s his.
Rin is patient, empathetic, and compassionate, she’s also hot tempered and just as possessive of Sesshomaru as he is of her.
They are an extremely loyal pair, built off of a trust on putting their lives in one another’s hands. Rin’s faith in Sesshomaru is absolute and unwavering.
They travel a lot with Jaken and A-Un, leading Rin to be fairly compitent as a combatant capable of taking on low level yokai. Her lord personally trained her.
Rin refers to Sesshomaru as her lord, even after their mated status (a married pair in human terms). Sesshomaru refers to Rin as his mate, and treats her as his equal despite her inferior status as a human.
As an interracial and inter-species couple they do face many discrimination, between humans and yokai alike. However, Sesshomaru takes any insult against his mate, Rin, as a personal offense and he will kill to defend her name. Rin has also worked hard to prove herself a worthy mate of her lord, fighting harder than most human warriors.
Sesshomaru’s tolerance for Inuyasha and his pack is minimal but because of Rin’s ties to his younger half-brother’s pack he tolerates them, at most.
Rin and Sesshomaru’s mother have a close relationship as InuKimi helps Rin navigate the daiyokai court.
Rin is not a proper lady, and refuses to conform to being a lady, studying arts of healing and combat to continue her travels with her lord.
Sesshomaru is very proud of his human mate despite his previous known dislike of the human race.
I don’t have many head canons for Hak and Yona, they aren’t an OTP of mine, I do love Akatsuki no Yona the manga though and eagerly await for more of the anime, I like the characters and dynamics. But they aren’t really my couple. I do have a few head canons for them though so I hope these few work for you.
Hak & Yona
Hak has a huge sweet tooth.
Yona is terrile at almost all things domestic, even with the help of Yoon to help her cooking.
Yona is possessive of Hak, and does not like seeing the other ladies of villages or the maids fawning over him. She does not like having to share Hak’s attentions, even for a mission

Batman: the Red Death The first of the Dark Knights rises! In Earth -52, Batman hunts the Flash for his speed force. With the Bat-Family dead, Bruce wants to steal Barry’s powers so that he can protect the entire world, much less Gotham. After a long and, for Barry, torturous chase, Bruce succeeds in merging himself with the Speed Force, becoming Batman the Red Death. Shortly thereafter, he is approached by the Batman Who Laughs, who tells him that his world is destined to die, but he knows of one destined to live – they just have to take it.
Metal continues to be, well, metal as hell. Let’s start with the Red Death’s awesome name and better costume. He looks insane! And instead of lightning, he leaves a trail of bats as he runs like some kind of super-fast Dracula! Dude! This is extremely my shit! The first half of the issue is the stronger one, really setting up how scary the Dark Knights are even before their new powers. Earth -52 Batman is just as intelligent and prepared, but completely ruthless. The second half is weaker because, one: it feels like a retread of the first, and two: the Red Death railroads the Flash. No build-up, no tension, just a straight curb-stomping. At least it looks dope as hell.
Batman #31 KITE. MAN. HELL. YEAH. Kite Man gives Batman and the Riddler the location of Joker’s final remaining safehouse, but it’s on top of a tower filled with traps. Only way in is through the windows, and only way to get Riddler’s army through 73rd floor windows is with…kites. That’s it. That’s the issue. Kite Man’s coup de grace. Riddler also manages to give an actually rattled Joker a beat-down, but Kite Man finally gets his win. And in the next issue, Batman does the unspeakable.
Superman #31 Another Lois issue! On assignment by the Daily Planet to interview a cartel boss, Lois goes to Bolivia only to find that Deathstroke had gotten to him and his crew first. Inspired, Lois decides to instead track down and interview the most dangerous killer in the world, and, being Lois Lane, succeeds, but also attracts the attention of another group of killers. Give. Lois. Lane. Her. Own. Book! Seriously. These issues where we follow Lois on her investigations are some of the best in the series, and offer a perspective that no other superhero book really does. If this were just a Superman story, it would involve Clark flying around the world to stop Deathstroke from killing people; but Lois goes to watch him, to interview him, even. Almost every other protagonist in a superhero book does things to change the world in some way – usually by saving it; but Lois’ actions are motivated by observation, not participation. She usually does end up being a part of every story she covers, but her goal is always to let things play out around her rather than intervene herself. And while I think James Bonny understands and nails this perspective, if Lois should get her own series, I wish it would be written by someone with a journalism background whom could also capture journalistic language as opposed to the novelistic style writers usually make Lois write in.
Green Arrow #31 With Hal unconscious and floating in space, it’s up to Green Arrow alone to take down the Ninth Circle’s satellite and also the goon in the mech-suit protecting it. Not the easiest task when you also consider Ollie can’t breathe in space. Luckily, he’s recently made some friends who might be able to help. Like last issue, the finale drops the political overtones from earlier in the arc for pure explosive action, but is still satisfying as a conclusion to Ollie’s personal arc of rebuilding bridges with DC’s other heroes. Ollie still has to take down the satellite on his own, but at least now he has friends to help clean up the mess he makes in doing so. And this change really does show an evolution from the fallout of the last arc with the destruction of Seattle, where it all fell on top of Ollie and his small team, with no-one coming in to help. Meanwhile, Black Canary also completes her arc, taking out the underground men with a triumphant catharsis over her own abusive upbringing, helping others so they don’t suffer as she had. All and all, and ending that reestablishes hope for Green Arrow’s corner of the universe, even as he heads straight into Metal and it’s dark universe.
The Wild Storm #7 We’ve got an info-dump! IO’s Jacklyn King, their chief of analysis checks in at work and assigns her team to look into the Angela situation before Skywatch finds out about the stolen technology and sparks a war between the two most powerful agencies on and off Earth. Meanwhile, John Colt needs a quick rescue from an IO blacksite he broke into before he gets found out and killed, which would prevent him from giving the HALO team the aforementioned info-dump about what IO knows about Jacob Marlowe and machine telepathy. As Cole says in the issue, it’s a lot to take in. Thankfully, Ellis still writes some of the most electric dialogue in comics, and still manages to squeeze in a propulsive fight scene right before the info-dump to give us something to wind-down from. But even then, it’s one of those “here’s what we know they know we know they know” info-dumps – one of the worst kinds – and after reading it three times I’m still not sure if I’ve taken away everything I was supposed to from it.
Wonder Woman/Conan #1 As a child accompanying his father to council, Conan was awe-struck by a black-haired girl named Yanna. Years later, after becoming the Barbarian, Conan happens upon a gladiator match between three men and one black-haired woman who manages to beat them. She demands her freedom, but cannot overpower all of her slaver’s warriors and is taken back in chains. Conan, once again awe struck, goes to rescue her. So far, this is unfolding as a Conan story with Wonder Woman in it. While Conan is full Conan here, WW is amnesiac, forgetting everything including her name, remembering only that she has powers, and once had a golden lasso. And, for some reason, she also fashions a passable enough facsimile of her costume out of rags and mud. We get plenty of Conan being Conan in this issue, fighting bandits, looking for gold and wenches, and sneaking into places; I just wish we got more Wonder Woman. Hopefully next issue.
Generations: The Marvels Under (pre-Secret Empire #10) mysterious circumstances, Kamala Khan is sent back in time to when her hero, Carol Danvers, was still Ms. Marvel; and working on a failing women’s magazine spun out of the Daily Bugle. Kamala accidentally becomes an intern at the paper, and has to help Carol save the magazine, and the world, from an alien invasion. As she’s tended to do with crossover stories, Wilson seamlessly blends what could’ve been an interruption into a natural extension of her main Ms. Marvel story, turning this one shot into another part of Kamala’s growth from being Carol’s acolyte to a Ms. Marvel entirely her own. Working closer with Carol than she really has before allows Kamala to really nail what their differences in personality and heroic philosophy are, and how she can be true to who she is while still being the Ms. Marvel the world needs her to be. And Wilson also makes this arc into Kamala’s strategy for saving the magazine, by having her explain to Carol the sort of balance between fun and function that modern women want from their reading material. Villanelli and Herring’s art is a perfect match for the alternate history setting of this story too. My impression was that the issue looks almost like a 70’s manga, with Villanelli’s manga-inspired character designs and style and Herring’s coloring giving the book an aged patina. The whole aesthetic really gives the impression of something foreign but familiar that I really enjoyed, and also fit Kamala’s experience in the issue.
Spider-Men II #3 The origins of Miles Morales 616. Miles had taken a fall for the Rigoletto crime family, finding himself in Rikers; and Wilson Fisk gets himself thrown in to tell him he’ll be out sooner than expected. Morales helps defend Fisk while their both in their, starting a friendship that takes them to the top of the family. Honestly, not a great origin? Having our earliest introduction to this new minority character finding him already arrested for gang activity is pretty problematic, even considering he’s supposed to be a bad guy. But even besides that, it’s just an origin that we’ve seen before way too many times. And like in most things, Wilson Fisk completely steals the spotlight. And while there are are definite similarities in flirting style during a scene where Miles meets his future wife, this issue doesn’t do much to make the two Miles’ feel like doppelgangers, which was kind of supposed to be the conceit of the story. Really, more than anything, after reading this I want more young-Kingpin, and could care less about Miles-in-name-only.
Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #4 Spidey, Teresa, and Torch manage to survive the Tinkerer’s assault in Kingpin’s penthouse, but find out they’ve been fighting a decoy the entire time. And they come home to more bad news: that JJJ is running with the Spider-Man aiding a traitor to SHIELD story he was leaked, meaning that Spidey and Teresa are also now on the lam! Luckily, there’s one place Peter can think of that nobody would think to look for them, but asking to crash on someone’s couch is a big ask before even a second date! This is probably the loosest issue of Spectacular so far, having enough slack for Spidey to do a tight-five of stand-up while on the run, but I honestly like it. Compared to where Amazing is right now, I enjoy having a Spider-Man series that is more loose and silly, even a little chill despite itself. Spidey’s stand-up sticks out from the issue like a sore thumb, but it’s fun page; and I really wouldn’t mind if the entire series continues the trend and leaves slack in the story for silly side stuff life it in the future.
Snotgirl #7 Lottie takes Caroline to Haters’ Brunch in an attempt to integrate her new friend with her old ones, but it doesn’t go that well. But later that night, Caroline’s brother Virgil convinces Lottie to invite her to a comic con party with the other girls, take her out of the city for a while on a road trip. Meanwhile, a slightly amnesiac Charlene wakes up from her coma to a waiting Sunny, and, under the advice of a mysterious stranger, begins to retrace her steps from New Years. What makes this such an interesting series is that, for all the exquisite detail the book gives us into each of these character’s inner lives and monologues, they never seem to be the details we need to solve the series’ main mysteries – mostly surrounding Caroline and now her brother. Instead, the issue is more concerned about Lottie’s continued attempts to impress Caroline by hiding how much she enjoys things like waiting in lines to get into fancy restaurants, and comic-con. But of course, it turns out that Caroline actually wants to go to the party after all, despite it being nerdy. Plus, showing us Lottie’s self-conscious side does do a great deal humanize her, keeping us on the love-hate relationship rollercoaster this book’s set up between us and the protagonist. It’s super interesting how the book divides our attention, really – because it wants us to care about Lottie, and gives us so much of her that we’re kind of forced to despite how terrible of a person she may be, but never lets us forget about this big mystery that Lottie barely even knows is something to be solved. It’s a really fun push-and-pull to play with/against, especially as you never know what the stakes of any given issue is gonna be.
Bitch Planet: Triple Feature #4 Another successful book of short stories from the Bitch Planet universe. Deschamps, Lee, and Olea’s “Life of a Sportsman” shows us a corner of the world we haven’t gotten to before, revealing the hyper toxic-masculinity of sports in this world, following the career of a megaton player who gets off better than OJ and Brock Turner combined. Sara Woolley’s “Bodymod” shows us the extremes that plastic surgery went to in Bitch Planet, making women into literal angels and mermaids who live in constant pain for their beauty. And Ayala and Gifford’s “To Be Free…” is a heist, where a ballerina is recruited to steal something of incredible value from a history museum in order to help the resistance. Unlike last issue, none of these stories feel like they’re repeating themselves or stepping on each-other’s toes. This issue also has some of the most distinctive art of these collections yet, further expanding the universe.

Marvel Legacy #1 One million years ago, Odin and Agimotto joined ancient versions of the Pheonix, Starbrand, Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther to lock a Celestial deep under the Earth. Today’s versions of those heroes begin having dreams of those events, not understanding what they mean in the context of a world removed from its status quo. Welcome to Marvel Rebirth, essentially. Secret Empire really messed things up for the Marvel Universe, and it’ll take another universe threatening cataclysm to shake things back into shape. Not gonna lie, the Avengers One Million BCE is badass, if archeologically bonkers, and I’m excited to see more of them. And I’m also all about the return of Marvel’s first family. And also Space Wakanda. But overall, this felt a lot like Rebirth #1 without the soul. Just a bunch of hints to future stories.
Generations: Spider-Man Bendis does what he does best and writes an issue where two people just sit and talk to each-other. Miles Morales wakes up in the past, at Empire College, where he runs into a young Peter Parker, who is about to have one of the worst nights of his life. But instead of seeing that story (again), we see what happens when Miles talking to an exhausted Peter after the action, and learn what it means to live as Spider-Man, and the person under the mask. When forced to tell a story in one issue, Bendis really can do wonders, even in his normally dialogue heavy style. At its core, this issue is one Spider-Man revealing to another that being Spider-Man is never easy, it’s always sacrifice, and it’s always personal. And that’s exactly the sort of thing the first needs to talk about to learn when he’s won, and the second needs to hear to learn that he’s doing a good job.
Black Panther #18 The Midnight Angels go on a mission to retrieve Asira as T’Challa and Shuri investigate a village whose people were stripped completely to the bone. Shuri recognizes this from a Wakandan legend involving the Originators, but further investigation points towards a different origin. A lighter issue than most of Black Panther, consisting almost entirely of two action scenes with a last act reveal. Really not much to review in this one; it’s mainly a set-up for a big Legacy rematch.
Wonder Woman #31 Well, it’s not a great sign when the first issue of your Wonder Woman run barely has Wonder Woman in it. Instead, most of this issue concerns a fight between Hercules and Darkseid’s daughter, Grail. Wonder Woman’s only job in the issue is to find out who won. Like, the set-up is interesting enough, but I pick up this series to read about Wonder Woman, not Young Darkseid.
The Flash #31 Flash tries to evacuate the city before Bloodwork can hurt anyone, but with his powers still causing destruction everywhere he goes, realizes he has to stop this problem at the source. But hearing Bloodwork’s motivation helps Barry realize that his negative powers may be feeding on the same impulses, and realizing that can help the hero and villain alike. The end of this arc masterfully threads the needle from moody black-suit hero to reformed opportunistic hero, without letting Barry off the hook for being a jerk to his friends and family. Barry understands why his negativity has been ruling him, and promises to take steps to fix that, the first one being accepting responsibility for his actions. This ain’t a clean-slate for better-Barry. It’s self improvement, and it’s work. And its great that Williamson isn’t ending this arc with everything hunky-dory. It ends with Barry on the first step to healing, himself and those he’s hurt.
Batgirl #15 Dick and Barbara try to get some info on the Red Queen out of Mad Hatter, but he’s not talking much while in critical condition, and the hospital might not be the safest place for them at the moment, anyway. And in the past, Robin and Batgirl go undercover at a high school party to investigate where the drugs are coming from, but only find a strange song. And Barbara begins work on Ainsley’s project, which involves nano-bots with an intriguing glitch. I’m still charmed by this book strictly on the basis of DickBabs. It’s like, the one ship in fiction I’m actually invested in, and this story is handling it so well! Honestly, all I’m asking for are more Robin and Batgirl adventures, cute awkward flirting and all!
Nightwing: The New Order #2 Finally, a superhero about fascism I can get behind! Ok, “finally” is a bit much considering that this is basically an X-Men mutant registration story with DC characters; but what makes it work, unlike, say, Secret Empire, is that it addresses fascism’s marriage with bigotry. This issue flat-out says that this started because people were afraid of their neighbors, of the “others” that creeped in until it seemed like they suddenly overwhelmed the “normals.” And it shows that Nightwing, in a state of panic, gave into the fear and slippery-sloped the world into fascism. The details are unrealistic, of course, but the broad strokes ring true. The story does have one of the big issues that most X-Men stories like this also share, which is that unlike skin-color or religion, a superpower could actually pose a bodily threat to other people, and like weapons, should have public oversight…but that’s one of those dissonant you’ve just kinda gotta accept as part of the genre. Also, Bat-MVP Alfred-fucking-Pennyworth, refusing to stand down to fascism, bringing a bat to a gunfight, and showing Dick how it’s done. Next issue hopefully begins the Nightwing apology/ass-kicking tour.
Saga #47 We catch up with The Will, whom has been kidnapped by the vengeful widow of one of the many many many people he’s killed, who is using a magic VCR to playback his memories to find someone close to him that she can kill, and make him watch. Sadly, for both of them really, she’s having more trouble finding someone close to The Will still alive. It has been a minute since Saga featured the universe’s most unfortunate bounty-hunter, but this issue more than makes up for it. Through the magic VCR we witness the childhood incident that turned him into a freelancer, and an early mission with The Stalk, before his kidnapper discovers a memory she can do something with. The developing rapport between the Will and his kidnapper is also golden. She’s trying way too hard to play the supervillain, prancing around and taunting, to break the Will, but he’s already too broken to care, and has nothing left to lose anyway. I really can’t wait to see how she eventually becomes his new sidekick or partner and the sorts of hijinks they’ll get into.
Crosswind #4 After a pleasurable, but confusing, night out with Cason’s fiance, June finally decides to try and call the man whose body she’s inhabiting by calling herself. Fortunately, Cason – in June’s body – picks up, and the two have a conversation about being each-other. And June needs the advice, as Case’s life is about to get very very dangerous. It’s really an accomplishment that this issue can have a body swap conversation – in a silent medium, remember – with characters that are rarely using their own names, and still have it be completely legible. Case and June just have such distinctive “voices” in syntax and diction and style, that they’re clear even coming out of the other’s mouth. Just from a writing perspective, that’s super impressive on Simone’s part. But it’s also the rare body-swap conversation where the characters aren’t complaining to the other about how hard their lives are, the opposite in fact. Each compliments the other for the good in each-other’s lives. Cason compliments June on her son and gentleness, while June tells Case how impressed she is by the respect everyone shows him. But they also tell the other to be careful and not mess their lives up before they can swap back. And the issue rounds off with each actually making steps to work on maintaining the other’s appearances, with June hiring some people to watch her back; while Case goes to a neighbor’s house to find out how to be more ladylike. The conflict in this book isn’t with each-other at all, it’s already present in their own lives, and the other just has to deal with a completely foreign situation. Also, Simone gets in a couple of good boner jokes! Always a plus. Lastly, Staggs is doing so much with these characters’ body language. Posture, reactions, how they hold phones or go to sleep tells us so much about every character completely wordlessly, and in the sort of fine detail that’s not easy to come by in most comics. This is a wonder on every level.

The graphic artist that I’m going to write about is Chip Kidd is an American graphic design. Kidd had design famous book cover designs from hardcover novel books to comic books. His base of operation is in the New York City (the big apple). Mr. Kidd has become the most famous book cover designer in today’s date. Chip Kidd is not only a graphic designer, but he is also a writer, book designer, editor, author, lecturer and musician. Kidd’s famous work is the Watchman comic book cover (2008), Batman animated book cover (1998). He is also credited for working on Bat-Manga! (2008) and Jack Cole and Plastic Man: Forms Stretched to Their Limit (2001).
Charles (Chip) Kidd 1st was born on September 12, 1964 (in his 50’s now) in Shillington, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA. When Chip was a kid he grew up with American pop culture through television mostly in the daylight, but was a huge fan of Batman, and starting collection the Dark Knight merchandise. (Rob Daubenspeck, 2010) It’s cool that when Chip was a kid he was inspired to become an artist at a young age just by watching television, and that his favorite superhero is Batman. I found that to be very true, because when an at a young age I was inspired to be an artist just by playing old Super Mario games, reading comics, and cartoons. That was the start to become an artist for me or for anyone, because art is everywhere and that when you see it for the first time that is what you would want to do in the future.
Mr. Kidd attended Pennsylvania State University majoring in graphic design program, then he graduated in 1986 with a degree of graphic or public design. Soon after Chip started working for Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group (Knopf) working as a junior assistant, but he worked hard designing over 75 book covers in a year. Mr. Kidd still work at the Knopf, but moved up as an art director. He also oversees the production of comic book covers for Pantheon. Soon after his work became so known that Mr. Kidd work along with many famous artists Jack Cole, the creator of plastic man. The two of them made Jack Cole and Plastic Man: Forms Stretched to Their Limits. In 2003 (FamousGraphicDesigners.org, 2017) Another famous artist that he worked with is Nelson Alexander Ross aka Alex Ross famous for Earth X #1–12 (1999–2000). Those two design and wrote a short comic called "The Trust," in Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross in 2003. As Mr. Kidd worked along many artist he got to work with a film adaptation of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novel in 1990(FamousGraphicDesigners.org, 2017). It amazing that Mr. Kidd has worked alongside many famous artist and writers. That is the what I would work hard to do as an artist, and someday I hope that I can work with these people with these famous comic artists or a video game designer like Hideo Kojima the creator of the metal gear solid series or even Hironobu Sakaguchi creator of final fantasy. (Gamedesigning.org, 2017) These are just example of the people that I would love to work with in time with hard work, and when I make a name for myself in time, just one step at a time.
Mr. Kidd’s design style is more art than science (Carly L. Roberts, 2008), because first he reads the book, then after he pictures what he wants to draw in his mind, and capture the books design. He even takes risk in his work, even though one of his work described by Updike as “monstrously ugly” (Carly L. Roberts, 2008). I find that to be ok, because when your work is judged, and gets review, you can take their input and remake it into something better. Kidd learned that the best style is no style (Carly L. Roberts, 2008). True, because having a best style doesn’t make it better than any other style, so it is just like any other art style.
Mr. Kidd has won some awards like the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award for Design in 1997, work he designed unknown (icp.org,1974-2017). Another award he was awarded with was the National Design Award for Communication in 2007 for Communications Design, work unknown (cooperhewitt.org, 2017), the Inkpot award in 2015 at Comic-Con for his comic arts (chipkidd.com,2016) another award that he won is The American Institute of Graphic Arts or AIGA medal in 2014 for his book covers like the 1996 Naked, the 1999 Wind-up bird chronicles, and the 1990 Jurassic park book cover (aiga.org, 2017). Mr. Kidd work is spoke highly of like in USA Today newspaper the applaud his spirit in the graphic designing and called him “the closest thing to a rock star” in the industry (FamousGraphicDesigners.org, 2017).
The first (A1) of his work that I admire is one of his comic book covers Watchmen cover 2008. This art piece is a good example of an old-school cover look. It has good texture in the wrinkles of the brow, and when you look at the cover it’s like the character is looking at you with a serious look. Plus, Doctor Manhattan is a good character to use in this cover seeing that he is the only threw out the comic with super-powers, he might be called the superman of America or a god like figure, Also the first Nite Owl (Hollis T. Mason) calls his arrive the dawn of a superhero. The font is a nice san-serif. It looks like that each black shape was cut out of the word and placed out on the yellow background and arrange to make the word/title of the book. This cover is easy to read with, and it also have nice range of blue’s in the skin which creates volume of light and dark areas. The contracts of the lines are thin and thick in the face. Plus, the title is well written because it rhymes. This Cover is well made, and it goes well with the story.
The second (A2) of his work that I admire is another one of his cover that is a manga called Bat-Manga cover 2008. This is another art piece that has a 60’s retro look and combined with Japanese culture, because manga is Japan’s word used to refer to both comics and cartooning. It has good range of warm colors in the background. I do like the pose of Batman on how he is drawn. Batman has good contrast and good details in the cape which give strong texture. The hole batman drawn is well detailed even in the face showing that he is ready to use or using his grappling hook which gives the view a question view. This also has a Japanese style with the font in both English and Japanese, the title has a nice serif style, while the Batman title is handwritten Japanese. It’s a great Adam West batman manga in 60’s timeline.
The third (A3) of his work that I admire is book cover that is the Jurassic Park novel cover 1990. This cover is well done with the shadow of the T-rex bones which give a hint on what the book is about for people who hadn’t seen the movie. The bones are drawn well and a good shade of black to make it look like a shadow, also the contrast in the thick lines of sharp teeth, and the ribs, also the ribs mirage into the bones to form one shape. The background is nice and plan to show that shadow of the bones which makes it interesting to view. The fonts of both the title and author of the book are a good san-serif, both have color, but the title of the author has red in it which could mean that there will be blood in this book because dinosaurs are dangerous.
The fourth (A4) of his work that I admire is another comic book cover is the Batman: Death by Design cover, 2012. This cover has good grayscale from light to dark areas which brings volume. Also, showing that batman is hanging upside down is a good view of showing that the Dark Knight is doing what all bats do, hanging upside down. Plus, the Gotham is aligned with batman’s top head to give it some depth and its doesn’t make it clutter. The title is a bold san-serif font, and the title batman is black with a white shadow in the back to give it some mystery and illusion. I also like that the symbol is up that way it’s not upside down with batman to make the symbol look funny.
The fifth (A5) of his work that I admire is another book cover called Wind-Up Bird Chronicles cover, 1999. This cover is a well done spread that has a movement when you open the book. Your eye will catch the bird from its head to its tail. This cover has a nice range of colors and pattern in the bird its self. Even adding light drawn of clock-work parts make the book title go into its theme. Plus, it almost looks life like even though the bird is a wind-up too, that the colors gives it texture. Also, I do like the san-serif font, on the title, also making it a shape, and the text is aligned with the bird’s head which makes it very nice to look at instead of straight line, which creates movement in when reading. Over all this is a modern design that goes well with the book.
