a rather underappreciated facet of hua cheng i find fascinating is that hes kind of a huge liar? or rather, he spends a lot of time in contention with himself and lying is one of the tools(that i find most interesting) he uses to do that.

the clearest and most on the nose example of what im talking about is the opening of mt tonglu where he literally says 'i lied, please dont leave me' this man clearly craves affection and closeness with his god more than he could ever want anything else, wants it more than he wants to keep existing in this world should it come to that as demonstrated in the text multiple times. which, is exactly why in his eyes he can never have this. and one of the ways he imposes that self punishing distance is by FUCKING LYING!!! to himself and to others.

want 2 share one cassius moment. he goes 2 attend the funeral of his best friend jakovs father and ends up crying more than he does (jakov does not cry at All but still. cassius cries a lot) and when jakov makes fun of him 4 it cassius snaps at him like could you have some FUCKING sympathy for me and jakovs like okay man over What. your father isnt the one thats dead. what the fuck do you want me to feel sad for you about. and it does get better from there but its one of the last times they see each other in person for a very very long time
