a rather underappreciated facet of hua cheng i find fascinating is that hes kind of a huge liar? or rather, he spends a lot of time in contention with himself and lying is one of the tools(that i find most interesting) he uses to do that.

the clearest and most on the nose example of what im talking about is the opening of mt tonglu where he literally says 'i lied, please dont leave me' this man clearly craves affection and closeness with his god more than he could ever want anything else, wants it more than he wants to keep existing in this world should it come to that as demonstrated in the text multiple times. which, is exactly why in his eyes he can never have this. and one of the ways he imposes that self punishing distance is by FUCKING LYING!!! to himself and to others.
