Book Omens! A meandering journey to reading Good Omens to my son. A brief interlude because this needs its own individual post, it’s too good not to share.

I have laughed so hard over my son trying to work out just exactly what Anathema and Newt were doing. (I’m so glad the sex scenes are just implied because I’m not ready to have that particularity conversation with him yet.)

Here’s the set up. Anathema and Newt essentially begin to have sex as the Apocalypse is upon them (like in the show), but it’s implied and not described. A few cut scenes in the book, then back to them having done it, lying in bed with Newt talking about how great it was. Anathema suggests he take a shower mostly to get the plaster out of his hair. Then onto a scene with Crowley racing to Tadfield where this inexplicable footnote is included:

Back to Newt and Anathema. Newt has showered but there is still plaster in his hair. He starts to say something about how it got there because of him banging his head against the wall during- when Anathema cuts him off.

My son perks up, “Ooohhh I get it!”

Me: 😐 “get what exactly?”

My son: Newt was trying to do the experiment to see infra-dark! Thats why he has plaster in his hair! I get it now! It makes perfect sense!”

I am now pissing myself laughing.

Me: Yep. Sure. Exactly what that was. Let’s move on!

Normie brother is watching good omens 2 with me and we just finished episode 3.

Notable reactions:

"There's something going on with the fly. Either the fly is a character we haven't met yet who's been turned into a fly or it's like... it's a spy? Or maybe it's what's left of Gabriel because his heads too small now?"

(Was hard not to tell him how close he is. He hasn't clocked the Beelzebub/Fly connecton yet but he did think Beelzebub is acting weird and he doesn't understand why hell would want Gabriel in the first place)

At the end of the scene with Aziraphale thinking he'd become a demon and Crowley assuring him he's just going along with heaven as best he can my brother gestured at the screen and said:

"There is something going on with these two. Hmmm..."

His general demeanour at the end of the third episode is:

"I feel like there's some big thing that connects all of this together and I'm missing it."

Yeah bro, it's a love story bait and switch. You'll get there :)

Okay so I just watched the whole season 1 of good omens and I wanted to talk about one thing about the last episode of season 1

Is it the fact that they know each other so well that they managed to fool everyone?

I find it extremely significant how much time they've spent together and how even if they don't want to admit it sometimes, they care about each other and are interested in each other.

That's all there is to it.

Finally watching Good Omens season 2

My reactions/thoughts while watching episode 1 :

OMG Crowley and Aziraphale first meeting !!!!!

I just love the grin Crowley has as he created stars. He looks so happy omg !!!!!

I'm watching it in french so I'm not sure if he says that in english but Crowley saying : "Look at you, you're beautiful" and Aziraphale thinking he talks about him is killing me.

Just angel! Crowley is adorable. He. Is. So. Pure. I got to protect him. I have to. He sounds so sad when he learns that everything will be detroyed in 6000 years.

I just love the colors. The lights, everything. It's beautiful.

Aziraphale is so sweet with Maggie ! I just AAAAHHHHH

All this post is just going to be me fangirling over everything.

Crowley and ducks. That's the real love story of Good Omens. But honnestly I didn't know you weren't supposed to give bread to ducks. Happy to learn more !

WHAT !? Crowley and Aziraphale don't talk to each others anymore ?????? Maybe Crowley is lying. I hope he is.

Just so you know I haven't even watched the trailer for season 2 so I have no idea what is going to happen.

Wait Gabriel isn't Gabriel. I remember in the first season he said he liked clothes. He knows he's supposed to wear clothes and he's not passive agressive like before. He might have been brainwashed.

Oh he forgot everything but why did he go to Aziraphale book shop ?

Oh I'm relieved Crowley lied.

Oh they changed Beelzebuth actor. I love their teeth.

I just love the fact that technically Crowley could run a red light but he'd rather use his powers to turn it to green.

Good Omens-2019 British

I’m kicking off this review blog with something I have been buzzing about since watching season two (Which I may have binged in a day it was that good) and that is Good Omens.

Adapted from the novel of the same title by Terry Pratchett season one follows the story of angel Aziraphale played by Micheal Sheen and fallen angel/demon Crowley play by David Tennant trying to stop Armageddon from taking place. Even though one is from heaven and the other serves hell; since time begins they keep encountering each other and form a close friendship.

The story line sticks close to the book in season one and I definitely shipped the two characters loving the whole opposites attract trope. As the season ended in the same way the book ended I thought that was that and Aziraphale and Crowley would only ever get to be together buried in fan fiction and in the hearts of all fujoshi’s until season two…

The whole season leaned closer on their relationship and romance as a whole with hints of the pair being more than good friends throughout until the last episode where things get real! Eeek! I won’t give away any more spoilers but I would highly recommend watching this series. The characters and how their relationship develops feels really genuine and is beautiful to watch.

I keep seeing "Aziraphale chooses to present as a gay man" come up, and I don't think that's quite it for me?

I think it's closer to Aziraphale exists in a certain way, and that is perceived by humans as "gay man", and he has no reason to care about that perception.

Like it's not like Aziraphale saw a gay man and said "that! I'm going to be like that!" cuz he predates humanity, but he just is the way he is, and humans make assumptions and why would he care what humans think of his possible sexual habits, or change his entire being to fit human standards to change that assumption.

So I guess my thought is that Aziraphale has mannerisms that are just him, not specifically a choice of presentation, if that makes sense.

(not shitting on the hc, if you enjoy it/it brings you comfort, that's great! just explaining where I'm coming from personally so we can understand each other better)
