Are you non-binary AND a native English speaker? Help! I need NB terms for 'parent' and 'sibling-of-parent'!
I'm writing a Good Omens AU fic set in the future, where NB people are well-represented, finally seen as normal. In it, I've given NB folks a pronoun option that isn't "they", one used as commonly as "he" or "she" - ("ze/zer/zerself") children have a third gender option besides boy and girl ("bee"), and now I need terms for NB parents and siblings-of-parents. Not everyone will want to use these words for themselves, but at least there are more options. I don't want to simply use "parent", because that implies unfamiliarity, and (maybe due to my non-nativity) I don't like that. I want personal language, not impersonal for people my characters are close with. For NB parent, I came up with "nither" - mother, father, nither. For NB sibling-of-parent, I came up with "nincle" - I'm not sure about that one. Sounds maybe a bit too much like "uncle"? I am genuinely trying my honest best to have it NOT sound like some sort of mockery (because - even if I use she/her for simplicity - I, too, shelter from rain under the NB umbrella, and I want to make it sound GOOD) ...But I'm not a native English speaker, and the society in my fic is a predominantly English speaking one. What do you think? Is "nither"/"nincle" good enough, or do you have any better ideas (which I will credit you for, of course)?

I don't really ask for a sex scene. I swear...
They're more than that, as the angel and demon that they are... "Inhuman"
Asexuality... Just... Aziraphale and Crowley.
Angel and Demon.
Just if it happens, please don't ask for anything explicit. Forget about that and leave it for your fanfics.
And secondly, if it does happen... It'll be a thousand times more chaotic and fun... Than romantic and sexy scene.
I admit that the only thing I would like to see is a chaos of black and white feathers flying all over the place. But for that you don't need sex, with a very chaotic and/or hungry kiss, it's enough.
AND PLEASE... No tag/mention Neil Gaiman....

thing is - and hear me out - if s3 does by any minute chance incorporate any suggestion of a sex scene, it is imperative for me that they commit to the bit. i need crowley to nearly topple over trying to get out of his jeans, i need aziraphale to complain that they cant do anything downstairs because that would be scandalous, and i need them to trip over going up the stairs because they keep getting distracted. i need one of them to accidentally get an elbow to the face, i need them to have a long forgotten book digging into one of their backs, and aziraphale is horrified when crowley launches it across the room, and i need there to be hard cut to whickber street having a huge power surge, lines sparking, all the power going out, and every car alarm in a 2-mile radius start screaming, i don't need it to be explicit or overly romantic but i do need it to be fucking funny

Is it just me or does this line hit different when you remember that David Tennant actually has a non-binary kid who uses they/them pronouns, and has worn this non-binary rainbow pin to a bunch of interviews in support of them—?

[Update] David Tennant continues his trend of being a trans ally respectful & supportive of non-binary people & gender neutral pronouns in the Doctor Who Special: The Star Beast (2023)

Good Omens season 2 wins because it’s such a safe haven.
Beelzebub and Muriel are non binary.
Maggie and Nina, two women, are a primary love interest story that feel free of stereotypes.
Nina’s partner Lindsay is never given pronouns so it’s left up to the imagination if Lindsay is a she/he/they.
The magic shop’s partner is only referred to as “spouse”, and at the ball they present as trans/non binary.
There were the two male presenting people in the graveyard who referenced Grindr.
Ms. Sandwich’s character shows support of sex work without shame.
While Aziraphale and Crowley are male presenting and use he/him pronouns, they could be gay/bi/ace/fill in your orientation here. Crowley even rejects being referred to as a lad.
I just love it so so much.
A lot of queer representation in tv/film feels forced, so small it’s hardly a blip, or it’s meant to give a laugh and be comic relief.
With Good Omens I feel safe. I’m watching something where I truly feel with my people.

We actually don't know for sure that Nina is a lesbian in the traditional sense. When Lindsay texts her to dump her, a very quiet voice can be heard. Voices aren't gendered, ofc but the voice has what some might call a "masculine" range. Plus, Neil, himself, brushed off the suggestion that Lindsay was definitively a woman.

the arrangement is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules...
part 4 of my ineffable kisses series - imagining some kisses throughout time that went decidedly better than That Kiss did...
<< start || part 2 || part 3 || part 4 - golden age of piracy || part 5 || part 6 || part 7 || part 8 || part 9 >>
i personally don't believe aziraphale would be a naval officer in the golden age of piracy, but would instead adopt a kind of 'stede bonnet' approach to piracy that results in him being invariably captured and needing to be rescued several times over - that is, until crowley can physically pick him up and place him on land, under strict instructions never to board a ship ever again 🩷
