Everything at once succumbed to a static kind of quiet, and Touya thought only about searching for dock leaves with Natsuo while his legs burned, giggling when his little brother seemed to find every other leaf but the one they needed, the concentration on Natsuo’s face as he got more and more frustrated. Touya remembered how gentle his brother had been as he finally rubbed at Touya’s stings, and the first time he told Touya, quietly, embarrassed, like he was waiting to be told he wasn’t smart enough for it, that he wanted to be a doctor one day.

The tears fell and Touya's legs burned as he sprinted, and his little brother was three years away.

...Something's kinda hitting me, guys. I think something just clicked.

So we all know that BB!DOTC is the arc I'm not staying faithful to, right? A lot of characters are getting total overhauls? I'd actually been dancing pretty heavily around the pro-colonialism themes in the original text, simply because I don't really feel comfortable handling them (same with certain sexual themes, it's not great for my mental health to force myself to engage with certain elements that are triggering)

So I'd made it so there was Park Cats (Wind Coalition and River Kingdom) who arrived relatively recently, and Tribe Cats (Sky's Clan, Shadow's Clan) who nestle into an unclaimed spot in the forest. All groups roughly equal in power until Thunder's Clan which was existing in defiance.

But Clanmew isn't JUST comprised of Parkmew and Tribemew-- there's a third contributor. Old Townmew, which mixes with Parkmew and forms Middle Townmew, mixing again with Clanmew to create Modern Townmew.

Since I'm now really thinking about the colonialism themes, especially in my re-read where it starts reaching its narrative conclusion in Books 5 and 6... I think I need to add that 3rd cultural group. I need to make them a player. I think I'm doing a serious disservice by only having the Park Cats, Tribe Cats, and then saying all others mostly lived in the town.

I'm gonna do a BB!Brokenstar with Slash. Previously I'd just cut him completely-- but I think I should, instead, walk him back from being "Pure Evil" like he is in-canon and make him into a real character.

One Eye's a god drawn to the festering stink and rot of the First Battle; Slash is a mortal, leading a group like any other in the Forest Territories.

I think I'm also going to significantly bump up the time the Park Cats have been in this territory. Slash and his cats have been fighting them for years, and until the Mountain Cat influx, were basically spread through most of the Forest.

Going to be a tad controversial here:

The world state thing is fine. It's not a disaster. It doesn't ruin the point of Dragon Age. Your headcanons aren't decanonised by it.

Is it ideal?

Absolutely not.

Am I disappointed?

Absolutely.

Does this have any bearing on how much I'll enjoy Veilguard?

Ultimately, probably not. Sure, this means I won't get to find out whether the Fade Survivor was accepted at Wheisshaupt, and it means I won't get to find out whether Divine Victoria's Nug breeding program was successful.

What it does mean is we'll be able to go into the world afresh. Make decisions impacting a different part of the world. See the world in a different way. Just like in Origins.

Ultimately though, this doesn't prevent you from writing your own stories in Thedas to bridge the gap. The campaign I'm running for my mates kinda does this (although I just killed off King Alistair so I don't think a lot of you would like the story I'm telling).

I dunno, maybe just...cool it a little bit? Save criticisms until we have the game. When it's in front of us, if it's bad, then we can tear into it.

It right pisses me off that people will see two characters and be like “look their cannonically a couple! They’re canonically gay and in a relationship! It’s canon!” When they’re just like… friends, but it’s seen as *fine* and *normal* and their dynamics are sometimes only given names in fandom in terms of this supposed canonical relationship

But when people instead dare suggest a character that’s *not* confirmed as being “cannonically aroace” people start clutching their pearls and crying about “B-But that’s not canon! How can you say it’s cannon! You’re lying! It’s just your interpretation of the character”.

It’s not the claiming of canonicity is it? It’s aroace people stepping in and messing up your idea of canon with alternative interpretations that are just as valid and canon as the common interpretation and you just don’t like that. Youse just need to admit you’re aro/ace phobic and move the fuck on.
